"How our government works. I did this before I'm telling you, this is a recurring nightmare. This is why you can't trust big government. That's why I'm happy to see that Starbucks and Amazon are getting involved in the vaccine program. And why think UPMC should have been running it from the start? Does the state screws it up? I'm telling you, I've had this conversation about unemployment checks for At least 12 years. Every time they get overwhelmed, it shuts down. We don't have enough employees. We have a bad computer system. There's always a story, but when you're unemployed, Then you got bills. I'm gonna call this. Did this before. There have been, folks That I'm going to give you a tip here in a minute that's worked before. What I'm gonna try this number. See No, it's They're people that get up at seven in the morning and start calling this number. It's obnoxious. This is Go ahead, Cookie. Hi. Um I have a question and a comment. My daughter. It's self employed, and she When the pandemic was that and the kids weren't in school. There were a couple weeks where she had to stay home and and homeschool them. Well, online. They're young. And so she missed work. And she got a couple payments through the federal government. Okay, Not much, but a couple $100, which was great. Um, but then you say, I don't know whether that extended with the new bill that came through. But the state of Pennsylvania when she tried to apply for Joanie had, like two more weeks to do it, And then they went back to school. They wouldn't even let her apply. They said No, We're not set up for this, so I don't know. My question is whether that is included, like the gate workers with that is that you go through with this new Um, they say it did. And here's what I'm gonna give. They say it If it's very confusing, um This is my best tip. As I have now texted four state leaders. To try and get to the bottom of this and Is that redundant, re occurring nightmare. The best advice I have been able to give, and it's generally effective is to call your local legislator local your local state. Rep. They will. Get folks to jump the line. "And Douglas County or pushing the school district to return kids and teachers to the classroom. In fact, there was a rally outside of the Doug Coast School headquarters in Castle Rock yesterday ahead of a school board meeting on the issue last night. Jamie Wooldridge has four Children and Doug Coast schools and is part of a group that wants kids back in the classroom and joins us now, Jamie. Good morning. Thanks for coming on with us. Good morning, Jim. I just wanna get a baseline you You obviously believe in the severity of covert 19. Is that correct? Oh, yeah, of course. Okay. And so knowing that a your big thing is saying that I'm assuming our kids what you're you feel like they're losing, learning in transition, Or do you feel like that? The risks are are okay enough for the kids to go back to school. Well, I think that we know that this is a really unfortunate virus that exponentially effects older adults and elderly a lot more than it does younger people. I think that the death rate for you know those under 20 is less than one person. It's like a point whatever percent. Um e think the death rate for covert and Colorado for those 60 60 and up is 90%. So that means the majority of teachers are honestly safe. And kids are are basically safe. I'm not saying that they don't get it. I think that we all know that it's real. But I think that a lot of the precautions the safety precautions, but I couldn't place show us that Are awesome. They show us that schools are one of the safest places to be. The state has changed their guidelines. They're less crippling their less restriction. The quarantine. Times have been dropped. I think you know kids are great. They follow the rules. They've been doing what we've been asking of them for the last 10 months. They're great mass squares, they social distance. No, they We can ask them to do certain things and they'll do it whereas other adults and you know the rest of our community, our society just sometimes they don't do that. Okay. They're great at following the rules, and they're doing what we say so state schools there. Really showing that there is that one of the safest places to be. So you know that in addition to all the things that we're seeing a star's the academic decline and the You know, the social emotional Struggles and, you know, suffering that the kids they're happening having right now. It's just I think that for all those reasons we we understand that the virus is real. But we think that you know there could be a Um, you know, We can. We can accomplish both. We can we can be safe and And get kids back in school the same time, Jamie I've got a kid in middle school in Douglas County, and I cannot wait for him to go back to school. We're all just were also over it. But I also follow on Facebook, a Douglas County parents page and I'm sure your you follow that pages. Well, here's what I've noticed on that page. The teachers who are saying I do not want to go back. It is not safe for me to go back. Um, why are parents demanding? I go back? This could be my life on the line. What do you say? Yeah, of course. Parents want their kids to go back. Of course, kids want to go back. What do you say to teachers, though? Who feel that way? Well, I'm actually in educator myself. Esso. I understand those sides of it. I took this year off to be home with my four kids because we just didn't have a choice. They You know, I knew that I have one of each level and I just knew that there was no way that we were going to be able to do all of the above, with remote learning, transporting with no transportation. You know, just all the different needs so I can see the educator side. But like I said, previously I think that we've seen the data. It shows that teachers are basically safe. I mean, if they cannot hear To the requirements in the different, you know, guidelines that CD CD phe and Tri County health or put forward You know, they have all the peopie that they need. The governor has been so great in terms of providing all of that to teachers. They have all the canned 95 mask today, possibly could need masks or I mean, a shield loves whatever that they need. If they do that, Even if they're in the room with me and all of this feeding, you know guidelines. Uh, They can. They can all be in the same room together and they can still be safe. I mean, even if there was a sick child I think we just need to quarantine kids that are people that are actually sick. Not just if you're within a room with somebody that might be sick. I mean, there's no way there's no way that Well, they're going to be able to see in session. Staffing would be the shortage. Is there going to be Anywhere that would be. You know, Jamie is we were just We have some limited time and I apologize. I wanted to ask what's the reaction from the administration been to your protest? Are from the board. Yes. You know, I don't know. I actually spoke during the meeting as well. Last night. I've done it, you know, before most of the public commenters last night were in favor of returning Tonto. Returning the kids to school, least in the hybrid situation. It's not full time. I think you know the majority of people think that it's safe. I hope that the board was able to hear us. I think that they did. I think that the board is trying their best. I just think they've done a great job returning the elementary kids to school thing. Thank goodness that happened yesterday. I haven't ever to elementary kids myself, and that's wonderful. But I just We just hope that the Secondary. Kids are not going to be left behind and we know that they need to be in person and, you know, see their teachers and their friends as well, Jamie. Thanks so much fruit for joining us and giving us your perspective this morning. We sure appreciate it. Yeah, Thank you. Happy 2021 U to Doug Co parent Jamie Wooldridge 7 30 heading back outside ahead of the.

"Good study, Teo to determine What's the big picture here for you Way had Memorial Day, Fourth of July. We've had other events, but I hear what you're saying. 250,000 all in the same place. We had the rioters getting together in all kinds of cities by the thousands and thousands. I mean, we've had examples, but you're right. I mean, you know, you know, I don't know how many people that attend the Sturgis rally actually live in Sturgis. Yeah, but I bet the percentage is about 75% of coming from another. So Yeah, Yeah, yeah. But you know what? I mean. It would be a good test to see. OK, this is where are we with this disease now, and I'll be honest with him. Kind of concerned about those motorcycle guys. The typically a little bit older, on average, and they got bingo, floppy arms. Probably some diabetics in there are you know you're going to have a good case of the Beatles. You know, there's somebody out there. Good amount of beat us. Lot of fried food. Yeah. And there's nothing wrong with that know the cholesterol level. If this thing is going to be off the charts, so the Austin school District has pushed back the start date of the school year. Your kid's going to be learning virtually online. For a little bit longer. This was ah, late night a scratch that this was an early morning boat. At 3 15 this morning, the Austin School board heard from a wide variety of Pete people, Teachers, students, parents. Advocates all concerned about what the official start date for the school year will be September, the eighth. That's one day after Labor Day, so they pushed it back a little bit. The district is also seeking approval from the Texas Education Agency for a four week transitional period, allowing online classes only through a full eight weeks. They need a little bit more time to get the technology into the homes. Because this virus kind of snuck up on us. Where did this last week it just snuck up on is this school year just came out of nowhere Well after the 1st 4 weeks, the district would begin slowly phasing students back into the classrooms. What? What do you think of this plan? Todd? I'm fine with it. You know, a CZ long as teachers have a choice. Moms and dads and along as everybody has a choice, either in the classroom or at home. I'm cool with that. Yeah, because every parent every family every student's different. Yeah. You know, I'm not what their medical condition is. But I know by and large are Children are going to be safe and fine. You know that because we've already tested it over the past several weeks as the Y M C. A has been renting school buildings and doing summer programs. Your kids have already been in the schools together. Have you heard of all? Have you heard of a massive outbreak? No, it hadn't happened the way I am CIA? No, it hasn't happened on hazards and the number of the actual Children that have died. Oh, are a handful. A handful. What, like is like, 66 Something like that. Yeah, So it's it's almost it's barely. Ah, not that every life hidden important, of course, I just don't remember breaking out during the H one n one scare. And the shutting things now, H one n one was much more deadly for Children than adults. Well, it wasn't an election year, I guess. And Donald Trump was not presidents true, and that will prove to be one. This. This all happened, and that's what it's all I want to point that out. But that's what I was thinking. Yeah, it's all it's all about timing. Mellow Johnny's bike shop. This in Fort Worth right, has now chosen to distance itself from the Austin location, which this week chose to cancel its contract with the Austin police. Two totally different owners and different owners up their different for, I guess its franchise. I don't know, I guess so. But anyway, the Fort Worth location Says it has no connection to the decision made in Austin, saying that they fully support law enforcement open, mellow Johnny's in Fort Worth, Texas. This this contract that they had with a p d was 300. Something 1000 a year? Yeah, quite a bit. And they've had it for many years. Yeah, and I think they still have four years left on the contract. Basically buying these expensive bikes. They're not cheap fixing the Austin Police Department's bikes at the same time, it was either 307,000 year or or 300,000 period. Maybe it was just that, nonetheless. It which was it's Ah, it's Ah. But then I gotta go. Look this man, you give me more work during my Jane Doe. No, I d anybody. Well, it was 300. Something 1000. It didn't It didn't say in the story a year. Or or just the whole contract was worth it wasn't clear to me. Nonetheless, it's a lot of money either way. You looking it up? Yeah. Got to, man. I can't just leave these opening in question there. I've got to keep you informed about the story and it's like you're I didn't write the story. But I know you didn't write that. You say you thought these live questions That means even out there open ended. I hate saying I don't know why. I don't want to put you in that position. What you did Hang on a second, can you? Can you talk to the company while I'm Dealing with this. Yeah, I can. I'm just saying, I just Ah, First of all, I just don't understand. How they bike shop. Can deny themselves that kind of business. That's a lot of money when they got three employees that don't like cops, That's all it takes, eh were uncomfortable providing this. You know bikes to what police officers because they saw him, You know, being used in the streets during those riots. Well, I'm just wondering if they had some specific threats that forced because the this is a huge move for them to do this. They had to know that they're going to be some serious consequences. As a result of this, they must have had some specific threats against them. You know, bicycles have been a hot commodity Hard to find at Walmart Academy. There's been a supply chain supply chain issue when we shut down our gems. And we send our kids home. It increased the demand for bicycles. People wanted to get exercise. Kids needed something. You know a form of activity. So there was a run on bicycles. So I would guess mellow Johnny's Revenue with business just shot through the roof. I'm sure did. I guess they feel a little bit more got wiggle room in the budget. I got wiggle room because ah, friend of mine owns Bicycle sports shop and there was a time in this town. We're just not just a couple of years ago were bike shops were absolutely really, really hurting. Because because of because of scooters and Ah, you know other other forms of electric. Yeah, that was transportation. Yeah, that was before the Austin City Council started this big push about getting more people on bikes, cars and know you're right. They went through a tough time there. For many years, but it kind of turned around. Maybe it turned around a little bit with the Lance Armstrong story over the years in Austin, you know, getting more people involved in biking. That's sort of the elation. Ah, Lance, the affected back when Lance was when we thought he was all on the up and up. The effect that he had on the bike bike industry is immeasurable. Listen, it's not just hot, but it's been crazy hot out there these days. In fact, today, it's going top 102 degrees. It's going to be nasty. Hey, but you could still see the real professionals out and about including the roofing pros at Kangaroo and it's really amazing. And to their credit, they have what they got their act together at Kangaroo to make sure that your roof your roofing job is done right on time, and the curb appeal is going to be beautiful. Yeah, they take all the precautions, the planning the precision. It's Scott and Stacy fellow that make it all happen in their team at Kangaroo phe. Whether it's a quick repair.
