Alex alexis writes dear. Can king of curious sovereign of the suckers do dummies for little backstory during the eighties. Kansas has many and ostrich farms due to the price of beaten products sometime during late eighties. The market fell apart. Feeding housing then became too expensive so farmers started. Just let them go in the late nineties. Ninety seven i think the department my dad worked for got a call about loose emu on the interstate. A co workers responded tried catching the bird without luck because it was running in and out in and out of eighty mph traffic. He decided to use deadly force. So i guess this is an emu and ostrich update some pita loving karen witnesses and caused some issues for the department from that point on. They had received permission to euthanize a wild loose animal in public. Fast forward few years my dad gets put out on a call for a loose emu out in the county he goes looking and sees it in a field of horses he pulls up and approaches it only to realize they juvenile ostrich emu close. He manages to get cornered in a barn. He goes to the house. Asset owner if the ostrich belongs to him or if he knows who might belong to. He's told that he doesn't Doesn't belong to this guy doesn't know who's it could be my dad proceeds to tell the man that he himself doesn't have the authority to shoot the animal but the man does if it's harassing livestock. He calls a chief to tell him the details and his chief tells him he will get back with him and how to proceed. Meanwhile my dad goes to see if he can wrangle that mossberg. The ostrich starts chirping at him. Zoe decides to back after this goes on for a bit is going to sing. Because frustrated tries grabbing the birds neck without any success he decide to start veraciously. Yelling at the bert frightened. The bird now tries to bury its head in the ground. "Album as well by feel. You're for if you grew up in that time period you had to buy a michael jackson out. My everyone owned thriller frogmarched to sam goody to buy thriller exactly so we ricky nelson also. The actor is also a singer. As am i confusing. Nelson's now oh wait. I think he did do some acting. I mean maybe he was in that. Like a partridge family earlier model. I going to beaver show. Yeah i think so. Look look at this. We're really going on the nelson's deepa nelson we're going full nelson. Yeah look at. This is in rio. Bravo real ozzie ozzie. Ozzie and harriet. That's what i look at this. Look at this. The team is coming together to get our nelson facts straight. Does it play any part of this movie absolutely. Not we are not afraid to go off on tangents amy. I want to tell you something. I don't often do this when we talk about the show. I've never seen this movie before. Like i said earlier. I have never seen a montgomery clift film but i. I don't often say this at the top of an episode and when i do you know it's it means something amy. This movie slaps a. I didn't know what to expect. I really truly didn't know what to expect again. This is over my head in a way. Like i'm not the biggest liz taylor fan. I don't know montgomery clift. I know shelley winters. But i know shelley winters the joke from sctv of being like a very large Person kind of like an orson welles persona so all my a all. My cultural references. Don't even mean anything. I'm going in here really blind. You don't know anything about this movie. And i am absolutely blown away with what they were able to do. In one thousand nine hundred fifty one with this movie. I mean this movie truly is not only shot in a beautiful way but deals with some really heavy topics in ways that are subtle and smart and i mean at every turn. I'm like marvin. I'm in love with the acting and and really truly blown away and not only that. I see the blueprint of so many things. I couldn't help but think of fast times watching this and we couldn't help think of so even blue valentine. There's so many films where this is the dna of a lot of complicated romantic films. I feel like and really really truly surprising and fun and we find movies like this. That i haven't seen i get so jazzed about them so i just wanted to get it out of the way that this movie i was like. Whoa a really kind of just brought me in really. Do you have any idea how warm that makes. My heart feel right now is twisted given this dark film. I in what it says about frustrations and relationships and and try to find happiness in this cold cold cold cold world and actually we would have seen this movie earlier but it was kicked off the list. It actually was on the nineteen ninety-seven list and was kicked off. By the time we would have gotten to it and this movie. I just think is astonishing. I kept thinking about a rebel without a cause episode watching us. You know like we talked so much in that episode. About like who james dean was when he shows up the template that he says we did the same thing with marlon brando and montgomery clift is the third guy and really the first of that trio to make it into hollywood. You know he's the one that it'd be like just kind of left out of those like let's talk about these actors. Gang people talk about them. He is the one who really. I think Paved the road for them to come forward like he was a guy who was kind of considered the most talented of the three of them back when they are like an acting school like he was the water one. The more like intelligent cerebral. When he wasn't he wasn't the guy who's gonna walk into the party and burp on people but they would love him. Anyways away like marlon brando was like he was considered like i. I guess you'd say like the thinking man's brilliant actor hunk. Well what i was thinking about when i was watching him was this reminds me or i should say i believe that. Paul newman took a lot from montgomery. Clift like there's something very. Paul newman any about him. But something that also is james dean esque james dean asking. Forgive me for like a marginalizing. Something there is something about james dean that seems working class right. That feels like okay. He we don't trust me doesn't seem like a hollywood glamour boy and a feel like what is interesting about. Paul newman. i think he has that as well like you know. I think you can see me. Cool hand luke in the verdict and things of that nature. Where you feel like oh. I don't know where to trust him in. Montgomery clift has the looks of a carey. Grant the looks of a marlon brando. But there's something about him. That feels like a little bit more dangerous. Like the idea of like and again. I'm making a stereotypical thing but like there's a trailer park kind of like we might shiv like if you if you if you don't look the right way there's an energy of him and i think that that's what this movie kind of plays into a way like going on his mom's at this place. How did he get ahead. what did he do. Let's the character i think. Only a certain actor can kind of carry the weight that this character does in multiple scenes. And you see him. I think just dynamically an effortlessly just transform transforming every scene but it all feels that the same person of beautiful three-dimensional performances in many many ways. You're right maybe just making this illusion. 'cause i was like hiking today in griffith park in which is not too far from the observatory which is such a big deal. That's an rebel without a cause. If i had to compare the two like james dean and movie is a really talented order collie like he's really lovely. Sweet duck okay. That does not exactly right. But i think we're trying to. I think james dean is a type of dog. You know like a really you do love him. And you feel like you can trust james dean whereas i think that montgomery cliff is more like a coyote. You know there is some thing sad about him. Which dean has something i think. Really a p like handsome about him. Which dean also has but there is a bit of a predatory nature to him. You know he is. I think lonelier in his loneliness than i think dean is capable of. He feels more unreachable. I don't know there's something. I think in the core of montgomery cliff. That feels like lost an ambitious and hungary in wild it you know i mean maybe this is the second. Just even talk a little bit about like how he was raised like. He is a kid who was raised. I think without having his two feet squarely on the ground you know like his family was really was working class on his dad's side. His dad never had a ton of money but his mother was She was adopted as she when she was a kid and she convinced herself that she was descended from this very rich like civil war debutante legacy that her father had fought in the civil war she was sure of it and that she was aristocracy even a should know her father even if she was never gonna meet him even. She had no idea who he was. That was how she was going to raise her kids. So that if there ever welcomed back into aristocracy they will belong so. This is how montgomery clift goes up like. He doesn't have much money at all in his house but yet he's privately tutored he travels a bunch he learns like german. He learns french. He's incredibly protected and sheltered and he never quite feels like he belongs anywhere like he's not really treated like a working class even though that's neighborhood is growing up with. But he's definitely not around any aristocrats and he's not really doesn't belong there either like one time. His mother took him on Ah boat she's like sailed the whole family to europe. Either wild thing to do and shouldn't have any money for any of this and as you sailing across europe he gets into a fight with another kid on the ship. Who was like you know richer and more of like the type to be on the ship and the kid pushes his head underwater in montgomery clift like blacks out and nearly dies in when he is like raised and kind of come to buy the ship's doctor he gets this giant abscess on his neck. And it's like swollen and infected until. Save him the doctor. Does this kind of crude boat surgery in. So you actually see it for millisecond. Assuming he's kissing taylor. He's a guy with this crazy scar on his neck himself. I thought that that was maybe something that happened in the boating accident. Yeah like. That's what i assumed. Luke skywalker in the end. The want a scene in or empire strikes back how they kind of morphed his injury into the film. Wow okay interesting yeah. That's exactly it and they usually hit it in films. I mean it's weird. You have this like pretty boy. Intelligent very talented actor with this gnarliest scar. That looks like got into a knife fight. But it's really from a cruise ship accident you know. And he's like this kid is kind of surrounded by all of these contradictions. And i think there's a lot of that in this character like here's a guy who is related to the rich but he doesn't belong in rich and even though people keep thinking he belongs with the rich and he's determined to belong with the rich and he tries to buy the suits are never nice enough he tries to have manners and everybody looks right through him. And there's that need to belong. That i think he could really identify within this film yet. Well i think this is a very traditional story. And i know you haven't seen succession but when i was watching this i was like. Oh this cousin. Greg from secession to a certain degree and i and i know this is a reference going over you but i won't. I won't belabor it but there's idea of this person who is related to this very successful family but very much on the outskirts when we meet cousin greg. This and the pilot. He's working at an amusement park owned by essentially like rupert murdoch and he comes into the family and and his ingratiates himself into this world and there was something about that. I seen one of the early scenes where he does by that tweed suit and he comes in to the rich family. The rich family the eastman's and they're all in tuxedos look amazing like we are going to see a movie like swing time or something like that and and the suit looks baggy and it doesn't look as nice and it's it really. There's so much show not tell in this movie That i love it doesn't belabor too much really treats the audience with a tremendous respect. Yeah i mean listen to the way they talk about him behind his back. George eastman's dropping tonight. You mean acis has right. I run into him in chicago. Is he going to lead us in apprentice. He's not at all like a series live quite pleasant not much education but ambitious looks amazingly like. What's he do. Bellhop hotel fine. I always wanted to look like a bell. John spy you have to bring him on. Placed is the plan for boy like that about him. That's easy we can leave you. People don't have to take him up socially he just wants to work. Get ahead that so we get a reference in that kind of snark of am like. Is he going to recite a sermon. You know where you understand a little bit about this kid and where he came from it. We don't really get the full back story of him like up in just seen as like a kid who's hitchhiking but all of a sudden you get this idea that he grew up in. I don't know if you'd want to call it like a religious cult but he grew up bizarre you know. He gave us an educated. He grew up isolated. Like he walks by you know. He's on a date with shelley winters. He walks by that choir seeing on the street and he sees a little kid for sustain outside in the cold and sing to strangers and he sees himself he. He's listening to them right.

The election is a big portion of all the top trending topics this morning. But i think one interesting thing is a lot of decisions were made about where we'd is going to be. Legalized calm down alexa. Now i'm saying that was very interesting. Arizona voted to legalize recreational marijuana. Montana voted to legalize tax and regulate marijuana. New jersey legalized recreational. But i think washington dc. They voted to criminal decriminalize magic mushrooms. So that's great. Wow they did they not make it legal. In oregon or conditions yeah decriminalize all drugs including cocaine and heroin and legalized medicinal psychedelics. To treat mental illnesses handled second. Morgan cocaine is legal decriminalized it so i think that means you might get like a citation or something like cocaine and heroin. It's an error already. Stay move into negative ticket for doing getting caught with heroin now. In oregon high gas they picked it out fine or one hundred dollar fine senate in what makes their bill in those whole huge subdivisions that they call trap houses where drugs are being sold and everything. With the slang and I want you guys to be talking about that on the show and that's what they're going to be doing. What is one of the things mark that you mentioned yesterday? On Your your slang. You mentioned the fact that a phrase called Fair Dinkum. What is fair for Dick Dinkum? Nah I basically like we would always site strategy but like fading Maine's. Like truthful trail. Australia has learned a lot from when MTV got over there. What that about fifteen years ago Yeah, the of. That but yet, quite mainstream about fifteen ezio. American slang is very popular over there as well. Right big time. It's just a culture. I think we learned as as young as we learned that they watch movies and when we got America, we expect to say the simpsons everywhere and stuff like that. So it's all American like Sonnenfeld, and like actually went to that that cafe and I tried to go into something rope ice united. That's what's GonNa be. Yeah, it was class. "Five eight eight five six two seven. If you've got thoughts on what happened with the warriors yesterday or just your thoughts on on? What exactly was the landing spot foul, and it's it's a little bit more fun. I feel like to talk about this on the winning side of it. Because I do think there's a point of contention with this stuff with exactly what we can Dima foul, and what we can't deal. But when it happens to your team like if we were talking about the warriors. In a one zero four one hundred loss and these were foul called the warriors felt like they should have gotten. I think our opinions might be a little bit more skewed. So I'm liking this discussion with the text line people checking on whether or not they think it's a foul. Dave. I mean think about somebody the Houston Rockets equivalent of Shaun Livingston fouling Steph curry in that position. We don't we. Oh, come on. Able to land. Landing spun wherever he has his land. I will I will say this though, as or your fan, I think we all know Steph not getting that calls for James Harden's getting that call he is not that was what that's member. That was always a Bob Fitzgerald's thing. This is how you know. Steph is not a superstar was before he went to seventy PG. That's how you know. He's a superstar. He's not getting the superstar calls yet. A guy who is getting the superstar calls fifteen free. Throw attempts. Another thirty five points yesterday said, hey, man, it wasn't a foul calls that loss it for the rockets. We just outhustled them. Kevin Durant after the game they feed off, officer rebounds. They had three of them. We all rebound in about twelve. But like I said the turnovers really kept them in a game. You know, we had a twenty two twenty four six, and, but you know, I also game and and get loose balls and being there for for each other jobs and just playing hard every possession. I think if we continue to do that. And and and had that approach every night. I think I saw the shape. Yeah. I mean, we talked about it earlier in the series with the the clippers that the warriors just we're not rebounding enough. Last night. And you can look for a four point ball game between the rockets and the warriors you can chalk it up to a whole bunch of stuff. You can say when it's that close. We didn't get foul calls should add more free throw attempts. Whatever it is. But if you look at the rebounding totals, and that's where I like to go to me, rebounding. Third down efficiency in the NFL. Right. What did you do on third down? What did you do with runners in scoring position? When you go out, and you rebound, and you win the rebounding battle fifty two to thirty nine. It's a whole lot easier to win ballgames. So Steve Kerr said that same thing we set the tone, first and foremost on the defensive side of the ball. Kevin Durant said after the game to when we're at our best. It's not because our offense is clicking. It's because the defense's clicking Steve cursing and they didn't play a sharp game. But they played a defensive. Well, I thought our guys did a great job. He so hard to guard with that step back with his ability to get to the rim. So you just have to do your best and try not to follow him. He got fourteen free throws. But I couldn't be more happy with the effort, focus. It's a five-man game. When you're James. It's not about just the one guy. Who's on the other four guys have to be in the right spots to help. And I thought our defense was excellent tonight. It's a five-man game when your garden James, I hopefully, hopefully the warriors just win and five and then we can just started calling him five-game, James. That'd be nice. Dave you like that one? I'll go with that a five game James. Plenty of sound from the Houston Rockets and they're complaining after yesterday's one. Oh, four one hundred loss to the words. We're going to dive into that. And don't you forget don't you think that I went all weekend. And did not notice that the San Francisco forty Niners drafted a frequent punter in the fourth round. We got John Lynch is a explanation on. Why was he went with the punter? I know he's Australian I know I got the trillion roots and the ties Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie that whole thing. It's a punter in the fourth round, Dave we're gonna have to get your take on it. Because that's the most raider move. In the fourth round, unless you're talking about taking a kicker in the first round shadow tobacco Jankowski who just retired hung it up yesterday. How about that kick his ass? Ciba's some good governments. Thank you hard sound coming up on the sports leader. We're basically, how do we beat the warriors? Sees the leadoff spot. With Adam Copeland on KNB are six.
