From Brady to Carr, ranking Bears' quarterback options in NFL free agency, draft

"Free agency. Starting soon as we mentioned earlier in the show March eighteenth four. Pm teams can actually out signings the signings and the wide receiver classes fascinating Jj. Because I think mostly because it sort of matches up with the draft class. This is a loaded wide receiver draft class studs and studs and studs. Nobody that's like necessary. I I like I tend to think see lamb and Jerry. Judy can be. I don't want to call them like Julio Jones. Aj Green types. Because that I think does a disservice to really any young player coming to the League to to compare them too borderline hall. Julio definitely the hall of fame. Aj Borderline Hall of fame to compare them to that type of player. But there's a great group of guys who look like they can be viable starters in the NFL out of the gate however they will have to compete with teams who resigned teams will have to decide. Do they want to ask somebody like that or do they want to size like? Aj Green should he make free agency? let's go through your top five wide receivers. Who's at number five number? Five number five. I have Randall COBB. Yes sorry I remember number five. I Have Randall. Cobb. Randall COBB. Of course coming off that season with the cowboys really difficult to see how they're going to be able to pay him And so as I was going through this and I thought to myself well thought. Where could he ended up? In fact I didn't think that's about self depot. Ask me where he could end up. I would have to tell you on your and some wanted to tell you that. I'm looking at an Indianapolis Colts a team. That was really struggling to throw the ball down the field last year. Now lot of that adds do of course which cover said. I understand that but I've never really been impressed with the wide receiving group that the colts have of course. They thought that they were going to have a few more options That did not work out with Devon punches. Who dealt with injury for most of the season. So Randall COBB. He's GONNA turn thirty before next season. He's at nine. Nfl seasons he had a eight hundred plus yards last year. I like him. What the colts and whoever their quarterback could be yes so it's interesting the question is would you rather have a guy like rental car bounced back nicely. Who Fits with the perfect slot style of of the modern? Nfl You've got three wide receiver sets etc etc. You can win outside and in some cases might be too old that now he's going to be thirty before the season starts or would you rather dabble in the shod. Perrin and sweepstakes and I might be inclined to agree with you. I like the PERSAD. Payment freaks me out like what? You're really like this Guy Ozzie. Newsome couldn't get this guy right and you're telling me that now like Jameis. Winston fixed him. I don't know if I'm buying it entirely woods. I would run away from shop Perriman. eighty might be fantastic human being but in terms of on the field play. I think that it was a flash in the pan how he sort of came on there in November and December for the bucks Certainly James with the five thousand passing yards sort of inflated his six hundred forty five receiving yards Paran- I just had issues for most of his career and I'm not willing to take a few weeks from last season. He's turned the corner. I kind of tend to agree with you. I wouldn't be opposed to like a one year not too pricey deal with precise payment but I would not want to make some big splash on that guy Given what's out there. It is interesting to this class offers. A lot of slot options like Geronimo. Alison is their Nelson Aguilar. Philip door set You can uh Devin funchess. Maybe didn't make the cut for. Jj surprise there. He's more of a tight end. Not a slot guy But then also demarcus Robinson who was very effective in Kansas City system. I think there's a lot of speed slack is out there so if I were if I were General Manager would probably at the top of the market. Do their own thing. Because I don't want to overpay for top of the market I would then sign a slack. If I got a young quarterback here I would sign a guy for agency at a lower cost and then go out and get by number one in theory in the in the draft. So that's probably why those guys didn't make the top five and I would tend to agree with you. Who's your number four on this list number four Robbie Anderson Levin love and coming off that season with the New York jets My best fit for him is the New York jets Because Gosh they really if they lose him. I don't know what they're gonNA do at the receiver position. They absolutely have to upgrade even by keeping him. They need to upgrade to upgrade that offensive line as well but seven hundred seventy nine receiving yards last season. He'll be twenty seven this upcoming year if enough teams and and if the jets WANNA mess around with this Joe. Douglas wants to mess around with us. He has been In conversations with with Robbie Anderson's representation if some teens get involved here and this is taken care of at the very started illegal tampering window or before. The price could go up on Robbie Anderson because of his age because of his speed because of what he did last season and then you can start approaching. Fourteen fifteen million dollars per year. I think the jets absolutely have to knock this out early and if they mess this up in some way if they decide not to bring him back. I'm looking at a place that he could go to looking at the Philadelphia Eagles who obviously could always use a upgrade. Their I the interesting seeing there may be some overlap there but the eagles need help it wide receiver. But I hope probably Anderson's faculty jets. I kinda liked that idea and I do think. There's a little bit of like say the Shaw Jackson to his game. That's an insult to the Sean Jackson as fast as to Sean Jackson Robbie interesting could be more of a position. He's he's more of a like he's a bigger body type of guy but who also possesses that deep speed. That might be complementary for the other pieces that eagles have so. I don't hate that idea. If I don't know how Roseman takes a deep dive a free. Hd but he's got cast a bird so maybe it happens a May I ask your number three is and then I started to say Emmanuel Sanders is your third wideout. He is my third wide out. And it's really just because age. He's GONNA turn thirty three. Where do I have him? The obviously he's not going to be in San Francisco. I initially till depot the Carolina Panthers and I said the Carolina Panthers because I'm not entirely sure the panthers are convinced. Honesty Smith is not convinced that they have a number one wide receiver they have DJ more. They have Curtis Sam. You hope that. Dj More is going to be that but what they seem to be lacking. Is that fantastic veteran presence in there and after I spent a lot of time will in the month of January with the San Francisco. Forty niners covering their postseason games. What I learned from a depot Samuel from kindred born was just how much manual sanders mentor. Those guys those young group of players coming up and how they were able to really improve their game early in their career after the trade for manual. Sanderson San Francisco did so I look at a team like the Carolina Panthers and I say. Oh those young guys could really benefit from a guy like Emmanuel Sanders however Emmanuel Sanders is kind of like Andrei Dala in in that like he elite should and probably only wants to play for a championship. Contender right. He's been with. The broncos just went to another super bowl and so we're talking about contenders we're talking about teams that need wide receivers. The New England Patriots is. They are trying to retain Tom Brady. That would be fantastic. Get sound radio. Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick said. Hey We got you Emmanuel Sanders and we got you this two or three year contract to finally finish your career in New England. What you say Tommy. Now that's great call. I think if you're the Patriots and this was the delicate line that they have to sort of walk with Tom Brady is. Can you go out into the mark like once we get to that noon at noon? It it's eleven fifty. Nine fifty nine on Monday can the Patriots manage in the span of about Let's see twelve thirty six hours. Thirty brought to us as a forty eight hours. Fifty two hours is probably right in fifty two hours. Can they manage to tamper their way into landing? Somebody like Mandal Sanders. Somebody like Hunter Henry and successfully like a- convinced Tom Brady to return if that's what they ultimately want their plan to be and if it is. I think that could be you know like. That's that's certainly a blueprint to having Tom. Brady back in New England. But I think you're going to have to get guys. Just beef up the receiving core for him if you want him to come back in my opinion all right the last two guys in this list that they're going to be the same for everybody. You could flip them if you want to Depending on your opinion of home and away splits for one guy in age for the other guy number two guy. Aj greed number. One Guy. Maury Cooper I beast I mean these are the first of all. There's a chance either. Guide makes it the free agency or Cooper could get transitioned franchise tag the transition tag depending on the CBA depending on what happens attack. Prescott's contract AJ Green. It does sound like the bengals franchise tag him but he throws a fit and says he's going to refuse to play for him then. Maybe that doesn't happen. What led you to stack these guys in this particular way. Jj Yes so I have AJ green at number two. Only because of agent injury concerns that He has missed something. Like twenty four the past twenty five games that the bengals have played due to injury So that is my issue with him. Amari Cooper last. We saw him was not getting the ball thrown as much his way as should have certainly against the Philadelphia Eagles. I felt that he still has it. Obviously he's young much younger than Aj. Green who I believe is turning thirty two this year. Amari Cooper is currently twenty five. He will be twenty six before the start of the season so If a Jake Reed were healthy he would be my number one with a bullet. No doubt about it on about his health and then So in terms of fits right We believe that. Aj agrees with the bengals eight. We'll extend the franchise tag if they do not then. I think that we can reignite the does job want to go to Cincinnati rumors and so just for the sake of argument. I through the raiders in there as a landing spot for A. J. Green. But of course I'm not putting too much effort into A. J. Green out to one of the thirty one other teams. He's going to Cincinnati. As far as Mark Cooper. I had no idea how the San Francisco Forty niners would do it in terms of contract and money but I have cooper going to the forty niners if he does not end up with the cowboys but again. They're the cowboys to do. Everything they can. To Keep Amari Cooper traded a first round pick for. It made a lot of sense. Not Not immediately when they made the trade form right.

"This is due to didn't really have anything to play over. He is bringing it at a high level. He's a terrific pass rush. And I am still a believer. And I learned this from Ozzie Newsome sack production matters. Now you like to see it over sustained period of time. But man when do get seventeen six it's real that's a lot of producting yet here, we are looking at Nick Bosa. I mean, pedigree hand fighting he can play five he can play. He could play wide nine. He could play five he could play four. I he could play three. He's done it all over at Ohio State. He's done all of those things to think about Nick Bosa that you like some of it is a little bit about the traits in the trait that we don't talk about our technical skills. He's a craftsman. Meaning when you watch him, ROY. Rush to passer. He's an artist. He's able to set up in sequences moves. He does a great job of working on the edges. He consistently has a way of getting pressure. Now, he doesn't have a lot of sex of thinking three years, maybe a seventeen total like, but some of some of that is going to skew because he didn't play three or four games this year. However, he's never been in double digit sacks. And so we can talk about the injury prevented him dish you from being he's never been in double digits. And so some of why we like him is based on what we send in what we're projecting out. But we don't have a lot of real tangible evidence because remember Jerry Jones had a sexual how you start to. Now. This is the first year grandma got sacs. Yes. You know, how this thing? Yeah. But I'm saying sexy sounds you gotta be able to get deficient abode. If you see I don't think I don't think Nick Bosa. I don't even call him. I don't call them an edge. I call him a defensive in. And I think he's a reduced. He's DeAnne who reduces down in packages. He's not going to rush off the edge. Edge because I think where he's really most dangerous because he's such a craftsman as you say, he he so instinctive that when you make a move he can counter without thinking about it. And right. So I want them quickest I want him shortest path to the quarterback. And that's going to be from inside. Because I think he could really cause a lot of problems from the interior. Okay. I'm gonna give you a name how about branding Graham. Yeah. From the Philadelphia Eagles. Yeah. They're not. I don't think they're same size wise. But when you think about smaller how Brandon has played. Yep. Brand has been his most effective sometimes when they kicked him down inside. And let him come to work on that guard that get into the edge, and you kind of work on the edges and stuff. And I don't know Brandon has ever been a double digit Sacher in the league. But he's always been very very disruptive. Yes. So maybe Nick Bosa is more like that the other comparison. I would have is another Philadelphia eagle. Maybe Chris long Chris long when he came. He was number two overall. Pick. You always wanted him to hunt. But he was kind of at his best when he played opposite. Robert Quinn rubber Quinn was the fastball. He was kinda change on the other side. I gather kinda got us acts what he's been a couple of pro bowls. He's been able to make it happen. Maybe Nick Bosa falls in one of those categories. Yeah. The last one let's go the Devon's. So I I know the thought out there is Devon, and I get that Devon wide over Devon Bush. I'll tell you upon first viewing of the tape. I came away liking Bush a little bit more. Now, Devon white is is has got the speed. He's got the explosiveness. He's got the physicality. I thought Devin Bush was a lot more instinctive when I watched them and there's something about maybe I get too wired up on instincts. But there's something about an instinctive linebacker who's flowing to the play before it even goes and who always a right fits and the one thing with Devon white is now you go sideline to sideline you're not run a pass joker because he is gonna come..

"I think a lot of teams are sitting out there waiting to see what happens, and if he doesn't find it extension and a lot of this is gonna come down to timing Russ. You know that like if they make a run to the AFC championship game or one of these teams are going to have to move on. But if they get eliminated this week. And they're going to be a handful of teams of NBC in there and saying, well, let's wait and see whether or not John harbach does that extension. What the rape? So there are some moving pieces they are in. And again, you know, I think because so much turn over the last eight years and sort of sapped the the pipeline. There are a lot of teams that feel like this year in particular. They've gotta think outside the box think creatively about who can hire. But even if he doesn't sign an extension Albert he's still under contract through next year. Right. But if you're the ravens, and you know, he doesn't want to be there. And I'm not saying that for case. So like, let's just say John Harvey looks at it Ozzie Newsome has gone. There's a new general manager coming in and Erica cost of the organization is going to be a little different. I say he wants a little more control. Any can't get it. Do the ravens ban go forward knowing that very well might be John Harbaugh's next year. Do they go four with John Harbaugh and Elaine duck year or the turn around and try to get draft pick for them. I mean, I think that's. The question, right. Like is to you the the ravens, you know. And and you're in that situation, and he's not willing to sign an extension, and you know, that you might lose him in a year is it better to go through with the two thousand nine hundred and season ten as your coach knowing that, you know, he might be gone or is it better to rip the band aid off? And collect some some some compensation for him. I think it's a fair question that talking now breer my buddy from the QB you can catch him as well. NBC sports Boston. He always has the information terrific point about mcdaniel's and Aaron Rodgers and with how close Rogers and Brady are I do think that there would be you know, that Rodgers would not that he's the one making the decision, but he definitely would sign off on it and be happy about it. I would imagine. Yeah. And you know, again is wondering where. It's it's a challenge. Again, is it challenge to coach those guys I think that anybody who coached Peyton Manning? We'll tell you the same thing that there's an exotic either comes along with coaching guys at that level, you know, you know, day-to-day basis there so prepared and there's they they've got so much background. And they've got so much experience. You know, they they know the game. So well, it's very very difficult to find something that the for for a coach I day to day basis to go in that environment. And no like this guy's gonna think I'm full I'm not working him. And you know, that's how guess made his name. But manning was. There, you know, feel texts from Peyton at one in the morning of and had a had something he needed to answer, you know. And so you know, that piece of it I think's really really important, and I think Tom Brady would communicate that to Aaron Rodgers which would be huge for Josh going going in there, and knowing that that's been communicated Aaron Rodgers errands, not the easiest guy to coach Aaron has his own stock on the way that things should be. I think that the guys on Mike McCarthy's staff would tell you that, you know, Aaron's propensity for changing plays and playoff schedule and all that different stuff, frustrated them points, and they made it more difficult for for McCarthy and assistance is play callers. But I would tell you the flip side of that is that you know, we're all Rhode problems. He's had to last year the frustrations that he's had with McCarthy's often..

"When great is a coach and Phoenix, and he was announcing the games kind of annoying when he doesn't games, and they were like shut up. It's good for sick for ticket sales and sales for the station. This is going to get lot of. Excitement. But what if it doesn't work to like, you know, nothing the best part about that is like you're you're right to question at the time. But is one hundred percent you'd to be like, what are we doing here? Yeah. I didn't know what the organizations and it wasn't me killing it. I just went. Hey, do we know that this is a slam dunk and everybody was like, yeah. It's a slam dunk. It's awesome. And then I got called in the principal's office after segment what are you doing? So. I don't know if that segment had a point I think the point in summation would be this would be there's a million different guys you can hire. And not every path has to be the same. But there's nothing that replicates the excitement of hiring somebody who's kind of one of your own and has it equity with the fan base. Keep saying equity because it really is important. But much like a draft pick. It can make all the sense in the world would be the right measurable. It can be the right thing on paper. You can love the program the kid comes from. But you don't really know until that person has the job and always had a great start in a rough patch since Lynch, we don't know Ozzie Newsome better than every one of these guys as far as the resumes concern, there's basketball guys that are great at it. And then there's Bob Myers who didn't play in the pros at all who had put up there, maybe even above age, and there's aaa's who may know players really really, well, but can't help himself magic who can be the best face of a franchise because he's the biggest freaking star. But it's pretty clear because of that competitive drive doesn't have the patience that maybe need right now when you put together this weird roster around LeBron. So I don't have the perfect answer for any team. That has a new guy that thing. Need? But I kind of understand any any of the really any decisions they make and the whole reason included the baseball thing is there because they don't care. They don't care. They're not about. You know, they don't they don't do those hires anymore, maybe jeeter. But that's an ownership thing where he's, you know, doing the same thing as the other Marlins owners far as you can tell so far coming up after the break Steve Young on all the USFL stuff. And just a reminder keep the numbers cranking back in Bristol was great to meet with everybody about podcast, it's doing so. Well, and it's doing so well only because if you and every single one of you that subscribe rate and review and keep the russillo show podcast rolling. At least just well, I guess we can't say at least because we're only allowed at this point to do one week. I would do more, but we're just doing one week. And just a reminder every time we could see the numbers and everything it's it's worked it's worked and it's worked because of all of us. So thanks again. Steve Young hall of Famer works with us, and I don't wanna talk necessarily about the NFL stuff. I want to talk about the USFL stuff because the book that I read a while. I've referenced a couple of times Jeff Pearlman who's wrote a bunch of different stuff. That's create a Cowboys thing Lakers deal. But it's. Football for a buck. And even if you didn't know anything, but I actually think this book is better for people that don't know anything about the USFL because the absurdity of these franchises of this league. Even the Trump factor alone. You could just read that Herschel Walker, and then Steve Young was this do that didn't think he'd end up there..

"So a guy like Lamar in runners, it becomes maybe fifteen to twenty percent every play the chance of getting hurt because they know you're going to run in. It's not the element of surprise and I don't. This is and it's the Russian roulette analogy, which is if it only takes one time, one bad outcome to ruin everything, then it doesn't matter how good your odds are. Doesn't matter if there's one hundred chambers if every time you win to raced. By the one time you lose and that's the concern. That's what we saw with RG three in that y, if the ravens, the ravens are going to use him week one, I believe if they use him exclusively as wildcat runner, they're doing him. Deserves if they don't win, they put him in. If they don't allow him to throw some passes as attritional quarterback that you get the advantage of even thinks he might run. But the play is drawn up for him to pass. Then I, I think they're doing themselves Jinnah. You asked me about RG three if they're going to keep Lamar, if they're gonna develop him, they need to keep RG three. Because if you say, if you develop him as a wildcat quarterback, you need RG three in case he does get hurt because all that time you're spending you don't wanna spend that on one quarterback. That was the problem with Tim Tibo. He was totally different than whoever your started was going to be. So all that time a practicing, you would lose it. So Baltimore developed Lamar also keep RG three because man, he is almost a he. I mean, he's a carbon copy of Lamar, f- Lamar gets Nick. I love this right after the draft. We were talking about whether he was even gonna play quarterback, maybe receiver how the ravens were gonna use them. There's been no talk of that. How much progress has he may. To the point where we're now talking, hey, could he start at some point this season or we're going to keep them in the pocket. I mean, we're really just talking about him as a quarterback. I think that the front office and talking Ozzie Newsome at the hall of fame game which Baltimore played in talking about Lamar, they love how he's progressed in the classroom. They love how progress as a thrower of the football, and they will one of the teams that you didn't have to worry about that rumor at the combine, they looked at him as a quarterback, looked at him as a quarterback of whole time and looked at developing. Ozzie told me, Chris, he will be a starting quarterback in the NFL. That's the reason why draft him, but enormous part of him becoming starting quarterback. And by the way flacco we should give him credit this preseason. He's played almost perfectly. They got that he is this. Maybe that helps. But. A big part of him being a starting quarterback is not once the year starts, and the number one quarterback is getting the vast majority of reps in practice is that he is not only used as a gimmick guy that he does get to continue his progression because there's a reason that he was not considered a top ten pick. There's a reasoning was into the first round. Maybe second round pick because his learning curve was going to be the steepest. You can't. You can't slow that learning. Once the regular season starts, if he is your future starting quarterback, that's a good point. Take a break. They're coming up, could the Kansas City Chiefs, the best offense in the NFL. This era. Any happier, one of the chief stars think. So that's next. Karen first thing Spurs former NFL I'd go shark Mangini joins us. Now always coach what's happening to be back. Football weekend. This is it down to like the last ten eleven days and we got herself season again, just can't sleep. About it about so much. Gene..

"That they don't want talent jama clearly there's an effort to make sure they get the right kind of people which is almost as important as the talent they bring one what you've seen from brandon beane and sean mcdermott and their one year plus here in buffalo what do you think about the vision what they're trying to do exactly that you hit it from the few times i've talked to to brandon that and also of course sean type that's what they value they value the person now they're not the only on sell teams that they're not reinventing the wheel already been invented when the nfl a lot of teams whether it's the steelers or the ravens we'll talk about what type of player they want and that training last year when i asked brandon in an interview my said what do you bring that down as ozzie newsome as always talked about how the ravens you know we want the ravens player what they mean is somebody who's dialed in loves the game is good on the field off the field as much as possible in the same with the steelers they always talk about they want to stay with play so i mean what's the buffalo bills player and that's when he went into they research the heck out of the players that their job and they don't want anybody who's gonna be a distraction and that's when he said that would be a distraction when i asked him about that and so they don't wanna bring anybody in not just talking about capitalist anybody who would be a locker room distraction they want the opposite they want something that's going to help bring that team together not just with great play on the field but off off the field as well the locker room guys good locker with that's all nice for anybody to say that anybody who's cynical enough can poke holes at any team that has ever said that done that nfl or any sport they're certainly nobody's ever perfect in that regard but i think their actions l as loud as those words soon thereafter when they got rid of guys who right or wrong you believe it or not and they never said this publicly privately perhaps but when you look at getting rid of guys like darius when sammy who are distractions in that city no doubt about it former face of the franchise type players but you would think and we all predicted it if you recall late last last year late late in training camp in early september you know the the wonder was where they get those will this be the worst bills team in whatever wasn't sale only one three four games early last decade would it be the world's worst bills team even if the century i mean that that's what people were talking about they weren't talking about this is a team that breaks we're all surprised you'd told anybody that bills fans are just about homo bills fan nobody would have believed that early last september just because it looked like they were just doing the purge and tanking to get a top well of course they turned around and made more of what they have when you look at that roster last year now outside of josh allen you you look at the roster how many players are there that teams would trade any position group for buffalo's secondary and then what's up maybe i mean only because you have the shawn mccoy but even then because of his age a lot of teams wouldn't do that yeah and that's what you could say last year by the end of the year i'm looking at their position groups actually did going down looking at other afc team and every week but who would trade what they have the offensive line with the bills maybe a few teams but go that whole roster shawn mccoy running back it was the second day that was probably the only one that people would trade straight up so that they made the playoffs they overachieved absolutely the top part now is repeating even if they.

"Did when he was making twelve point five million so he's making two point five he didn't get consistent releases he didn't play big for you but if i give him a million oh he's gonna do it now teams look at that and i get it but i still believe dance griots guilt for a million dollars i still believe that's that's a that's a good that's a good that's a good by this league as you know is cold blowing and once dez bryant turned down the great ozzie newsome who sent him a lifeline here this is your last stop i've done it with steve smith i've done it with anquan i've done it with receivers and the who were on their last legs one last raw with ozzy no better place for dez i said at the first day the story broke he should go with ozzie nobody will handle him better we'll treat them better we'll put him in a better position to have a last raw than ozzy new sarai and he said no he was throwing teams that had no interest man play with the giants that'd be crazy because in in his original thought process where can i go to get back at the cowboys forget the cowboys cowboys already told me what they thought of me they released me so the last thing on my mind is what about the cowboys let me try find someplace okay okay team yup who wants me working i go who say three teams gipp who has the best quarterback who has the best situation that can that can win and then i can show because you worried about getting what what difference does it make if you have a thousand yards you went four games you wanna win and you want to be a part of that winning but for me i would never turned deal down because it's too hard but you were shannon shock you're in the hall of fame you have three rings and you had a chance to go to ozzy.

"There's no doubt about it and we'll have to see how they develop this quarterback and you've got greg roman there who was with her brother when they brought in catholic and you got mardi morning is it was with andy reid when they reinvented michael vick post incarceration and those guys have a certain level of of experience with this kind of melding of two offenses and and you know trying to get the most out of a player and this guy is an athletic freak and and he's he comes in immediately and he's the best athletes on the team i think you'd be the best athlete on several nfl teams and yeah i mean if i'm john harbaugh i'd love to get an extension right now because it's a bit of a project but but the reality is the team's probably not going to be that great and the schedules tough but if lamar jackson from we one two week seventeen is evolving and developing then i think that will be a big selling point with ownership for an extension at that point that can go from a pretty mundane job to a pretty damn fun job pretty quick if he does what a lot of us think he's gonna do before we move on obviously a couple of the things wanna throw by here j ozzie newsome 's legacy not not against the other sports just specific to the sport of football the nfl how's he stack up with some of the great executive executive i maybe the lead not of all time maybe the last twenty or thirty years where would you put ozzy look i think you start talking about the salary cap era he he's up there i mean they went to a super bowl thirteen years apart and i think there was only one player you know one carry over i mean they completely reinvented themselves is first draft i mean to get jonathan ogden and ray lewis.

"Well i think the people who make these draft decisions they look at it from a football standpoint i would hope they locate i mean ozzie newsome he he's got to be looking at he's last draft he has here so and the coaches certainly look at it from purely a football standpoint football wise they're gonna they're gonna change your offense for jackson it's just a matter of win and we've talked about how teams the idea that you sit a guy and develop them from the bench and then he learns and comes along it doesn't really go that way in the league the last guy to sit and learn as a rookie for his whole rookie season and then become a franchise guy was aaron rodgers if we're talking first round picks jackson fits to a t and example of y guys don't learn from the bench because coaches get antsy so think about your the baltimore ravens flacco has been wildly average at best the last several seasons yes you are boring offense you don't have a clear crisp identity john harbaugh used to coach against tyrod taylor and practice you hated playing against him groman the run game designer there you had call and capper nick in twenty twelve and you found out all the dimension a mobile qb can bring mardi morning wig james urban their offense coordinator and qb coach you had michael vick twenty ten year he almost one bnb with via there are a lot of coaches in place powerful coaches who know the value of a mobile qb and if joe flacco comes out dink's dinks and.

"Wow quiet and i think this particular because i'm not one that i mean who the hell am i to tell somebody to be quiet but this is what i live in his case and playing football and he's a relatively slim dude who has had to concussions he's gonna get knocked upside his head so you'll have cats going at him from just to shut him up he's got to be careful and they'll get david johnson to max i want to get your thought on mars i think this is interesting obviously flack owes more of a pocket passer but and we know the ravens were kind of known for the running game as well the zone blocking him they were always notorious for that he's thirty three years old so now they bring in lamar jackson a running quarterback they also brought an rg three i guess do you like that they're kind of changing things here and how quickly do you think he's going to start right well the slackers contracts in what a year so that looks like that's what they're saying with this lamar jackson pick and i thought i think to steve as point ozzie newsome did a great job what the thing to do as a last brand to get the first tight end off the board and the heisman trophy winner who the last pick in the first round a guy with as much potential as anyone any more potential than anyone i'm not talking about from ozzie newsome in the raider excuse the ravens point of view i'm from lamar jackson's point of view if you're if you're rooting for his success would there be a better situation than to hold the clipboard for drew brees for year or two under drew brees learned from him and sean payton i just think like what's scenario gives lamar jackson the best chance to be the best version of himself which could be phenomenal unique kind of quarterback and i i would say the saints the reason i on not stuck on that though is because davin.

"And what is his future in boston did this boston thing work again they'll have gordon hayward back next year and so maybe they'll do something together but everything now boils down to one season for kyri urban in boston i the four leaf clover organization seems to have run out of luck watch what you're saying marang man kyrie is gonna be alright because he's going to be a free agent you know and so nine times out of ten players sent a someway somehow figure out it would have their best season rat around free agents but this one jason okay if kyrie irving doesn't want to get on board and sign a long term deal with boston guess what is going to be honest may be on the walking we will train whatever you want give us a superstar superstars are holding up on a why leonard and san antonio we don't know what's going to happen here in the next month he might just say get me out of probably won't back to the show jason mcintyre back with us we're now joined by fox nfl analyst tony gonzalez and longtime nfl head coach eric mangini all right let's move to baltimore a day after the ravens announced their signing robert griffin the third to be a backup quarterback and on the very day colin kaepernick lawyers depose ravens general manager as newsom and head coach john harbaugh in caps nfl collusion case the cabinet martyr narrative seemingly will not go away writing for espn's the undefeated jason reed wind i mean opined today that rg three signing by the ravens is proof the nfl is forever done with catholic at this point the nfl is trolling us all read wind that's the only way to explain the fact that robert griffin third has returned to the league while colin kaepernick is still.

"The ravens paid out huge money to both ryan grant and john brown former the cardinals greg you're shaking your head west i love the john brown signing he's he's a he's a great guy to take a chance on especially for a ravens of needed that speed in their offense ryan grant surprises me i mean i get that he has good hands he might be good route runner but what have you seen on film that said let's go pay that was one of the most surprising deals in free agency ozzie newsome as struggled at that position and he will one more time i've been the eagles are keeping nigel bradshaw around a five year forty million dollar deal howley roseman filled himself mark and he says keep nigel in the how well they've they've adding players i feel like their defense is going to be one of the more exciting teams to watch next year and i'm glad that keeps keeps some of these guys around he called the shots when jordan hicks went down knockedover he's a leader to the lions release eric ebro it feels like just yesterday we were interviewing him at the draft at lines fans west never let brought forget that they took him a ten with odell beckham and a couple of other pro bowl is right behind him in that draft well said i feel like he's been he's been booed as much as any player from that draft class just because the beckham aaron donald too he's he's gain two thousand yards he's not even twenty five years old not not a bad guy to check out they lost daniel fells to they have nothing at tight end even keep an eye on the jets there with you can see that patrick robinson rejoining the saints on a four year deal greg rosenthal i like patrick robinson but this is how you lose as a franchise you buy on a guy that you couldn't figure out how to use five years ago fails fine high on tomorrow david right exactly it's it's an annual tradition like a like a mardi gras parade to overpay whatever mid level linebackers available salt and never works for salt sean payton the night that i got stuck in that extra hotel at the combine this and very late at night i told them your team is winning the super bowl next year really what was like spikes buddy.
