"Folks. i'm talking to owen straughn. yes it's pronounced straughn. It's not spelled like that. But you know who's keeping score owen stran-. Your book is christianity and woke ness. How the social justice movement is hijacking the gospel and the way to stop it so i just ended this previous segment saying that people need to understand. There's two world views. One is an atheist thick or anti theistic marxist view and the other one is a biblical view. So what do you say to some young hip pastor. He's got his tattoos. He's got the The soul patch and he shaved his head because his hair was starting to go. And he's got funky glasses and he's just trying to reach out to the young people and their into this junk. What do you say to that guy. Yeah i want to say that fundamentally we're not trying to make christianity cool we're not trying to make it culturally acceptable. We're not trying to be accepted by the world. That's a huge part of what i say in this book christianity and woke me. I say that there's an antithesis. There's an old fashioned word for you. You don't hear that every day. No you don't. But i like to keep it that way. Please go ahead go like my work. I like it. Go ahead all right. Well there's an better than hedge amman. Yeah i don't like that. Where now neither okay. We're agreed on that. There's an antithesis between christianity and the world. We're not the same. Jesus when he comes is not the same as the world. Jesus and the devil are not the same and so we start from that foundation. We recognize that as christians. We're not trying to do this. Makeover of christianity where we put make up on it and make it palatable to the outside world. that's that's been a common way to try to attract people into the church. The secret sensitive is promoted that kind of thinking that's not sound biblical christianity. If only jesus had been at willow creek he might have had who knows maybe sixteen eighteen disciple instead of just twelve. You know could happen man. Yeah he needs to be more secret friendly. He was always doing this divisive stuff. You gotta eat my flesh and what it's like come on you gotta reach the young people that turns them off the cannibalistic stuff. And as our friend voting baucus said this whole movement dovetails with the idea that christianity is about niceness. It's about acceptance. It's about cultural palatability. Look we're not going out of our way to be an idiot as a christian. We're trying to bear the fruits of the spirit relations. Five twenty two twenty three but we recognize that as christians. Jesus has already told us that it. It is blessed for us to be persecuted and hated for righteousness sake and matthew five. So what i want to say to that. Pastor is bro preach the gospel boldly preached the whole counsel of god preach the despise.

The Bourne Identity (2002)

"Hey everybody welcome to another prestige podcasts. Where we perhaps are stretching the definition of prestige I think so. I think this is a prestigious action film anyway. The bourne identity. This is a two thousand two movie directed by doug liman who you might recognize director of swingers. Mrs smith jumper edge of tomorrow american-made. He's the son of a bitch. Made us watch american made. We got all hyped up tom. Cruise in and mister bourne identity in its turns out that was very aggressively average flick. But but he's he's made a couple of good action movies as you can see here. After this paul greengrass over and helmed the rest of the borne trilogy is based on a screenplay written by tony gilroy who you might recognize as the screenwriter of rogue. One devil's advocate. Literally every jason bourne film also wrote and directed michael clayton and william blake. Herron who. I don't even know why his credit for this like only got one other movie credits he's credit created as the co writer. So i guess he did stuff here. He came into some rewrites. Because a studio like lots of this is a. I had no idea. This is such a troubled film making process. They're much butting heads. We'll we'll get to that. Let's go live to London and get the latest from Fox News Radio Simon Owen. Simon. Such sad news. How was his death announced? Hey, Good morning. Discussing the Philadelphia Eagles' overpay for Joe Flacco

"We even get started on joe flacco. I don't mean to take a dump. All over. Joe flacco good career. You want super bowl. Mvp and ninety eight seventy seven career records. Who's not some like garbage. You know scrub quarterback was never good and he doesn't deserve to be mocked and good for him for getting the deal that he got personally. I think he is agent. Did a good job. i guess trying to There's reportedly that the forty niners were also involved. And maybe that's why he got what he got with the eagles which i mean. The eagles shouldn't have cared. If there's other teams involved should have just passed the number. I but anyway it's been a long way. It's been a long way since. Joe flacco was even remotely close to being a desirable quarterback last six years and twenty six and thirty seven record a combined. Six point four yards per attempt over that six years fan six point four yards per attempt over six year span is not good last two years. Where the only two years he spent away from baltimore signed a one year deal in denver. You went to and four. They're moved onto the jets. Last season went owen for completion percentage in front of me with his fifty five percent or something like that point to and he had a qb rating. I think of like eighty point. Two eighty eight eighty twenty and then. I didn't have this but in your post on him. You had noted and grain of salt here but of course you had noted that Pro football focus had him as the second worst rated quarterback in the nfl last year.

Video Marketing School with Owen Video

"There's something to be said about thinking of video. Not as like maybe even the final result that has maybe your your source material like what is the thing that you create that will go everywhere else but like how do you start with this first thing. Yeah that is your pillar content of the thing that you create that then creates and goes other places and when you're creating video. I i mean you've done this for a long time so you've now figured out all the different things the nuance of how to speak where to look how to present yourself how to get lighting right so that it looks better how to set up unitary all the things that's a lot and that's intimidating for someone who's just getting started but i think if i think of it as step one like start the process of figuring out how to record your voice and get started with producing content. I think it's a different way to think about it for some people out there. You bring up some really good points there and it kind of brings me back to the four disciplines of video marketing and we call this the video pro system in fact if you search the hashtag video pro you'll find a lot of our stuff. I mean there's some other people that have used the hashtag as well but it's like our core hashtag tag and video pro. What that means is a professional use of video and for some people. That's going to be like a youtube channel that generate subscribers right for others. It's going to be a youtube channel. That generates leads and still for others. It's going to be sort of like you know a video presence that's on multiple platforms even. Igt we believe in a youtube. I like a youtube centric. Right your top down. Content starts on youtube. And then you repurpose that into the other platforms. The reason for that is on facebook. You know three seconds is of you. Let's just kind of time that out for a second ready you click on the video and one two three and you click off. Youtube counts that as of you and you go home. And you're like i got two hundred sixty seven us on facebook today right. You got two hundred and sixty seven people to watch your video for one to three seconds. That's not have you write that in my world view like that's that's someone who just clicked on your video. They may not even have turned on sound yet. So you know on youtube. A view is thirty seconds. So it's literally one view on on. Facebook is worth ten views or one view on youtube is where ten views on facebook. And that's really really important to to consider why. Youtube is so important because people are actually watching your content now. The other part of that is the four disciplines of video marketing the video pro system and when you master these four things the blur of what camera should i get. How do i look better. What do i say. How do i producers who edits it. Where do i share it. What if it doesn't get viewed. How do you get people to watch it. How do you get people to click on your link. All of those sort of confusing things come into very clear focus. And here's the good news. It boils down into four main points. Here they are k. programming production promotion and progress. Okay the video pro system. So programming is the art of knowing what videos. You're going to produce a head of time and what you're going to say in those video videos literally how you structure them right. Because i see what i see. A lot of video creators doing especially business. Creators is going way off the prairie hatred avenue to talk you about x. y. z. And you end up talking about trump and biden in the election. This whole thing and it's like dude. How did you get there. You know what i mean like you. Keep your stuff a scaffolding. Because i promise you this if someone tunes into a video called like how to market your business or how did you seo. I guarantee you. There are not interested in your vegan recipes or your political views right. So you gotta have scaffolding. What do you say. What are you not say. That's the programming discipline the production discipline. What camera light and microphone. Or you're gonna use and if you're filming in front of a window you really don't even need a light. You just gotta make sure you film during during daytime hours right but you gotta have like set up. We recommend a video creation station. This is a three part system right. It's a camera a microphone and a light for example. You know you're looking at my video creation station right now. I film right here every single day. I have other stations as well. That's part of what. I do a youtuber but you only need one right. You could just do a webcam. Alight microphone and being a place where when an email comes in an instant message or a text message comes in. And you go. Oh my gosh that would be a great video right like a question from a client. You can just press record and start. Recording so programming is very very simple. You set up everything in a standard concrete environment so that whenever you sit down you technically film something. So that's production. Promotion is where you share the video right. Like where do you upload and went and then do you share it on facebook and if so where on facebook how often on facebook you know this is i think you use your e mail campaign. Do you share it on instagram. And how right. Every business needs their own specific promotional plan. And it's going to be different for some people i'm going to say. Yeah like you should be sharing this on facebook for other people. I'm going to be like you know. Let's wait a week. See how the video performs and if we need help then we'll share it in some facebook groups. You know that sort of thing so that can change and finally progress right progress or progress as how the video pro system that we kinda came to a little bit of license on that but when you're looking at your progress what you're looking at is did people watch the video. Where did they x out of the video. How long did they watch the video. And what you're looking for really are like right like peaks and dips right and with peaks. You want to do more of that and dips you want to eliminate that so if you do a video where it's talking heads you the whole time and you notice that like people watch for a minute and then it just dips well. That's a good indication that you need to mix up the scenery a little bit right. My point is is that youtube gives you ton of tons of analytics and when you learn what analytics to read and when right because the analytics the first three days of a videos publishing is one thing but after three months you're looking at different analytics now knowing what to look at and when will will affect your programming and you see how it comes right back into full circle so you're programming impacts your production which then impacts where you share the video in promotion. Then you get progress. Reports on your progress helps the impact your programming master. Those four things and youtube is easy and your business grows

This newspaper chain pivoted to digital subscriptions, and it's working

"The last fifteen years not been kind to the local news industry with thousands of newspapers either reducing staff or closing down entirely but not all newspapers have been affected equally and some of the hardest hit chains were owned by hedge funds and private equity firms that had no actual interest in investing in journalism. Family owned newspaper. Seemed to have fared better. And that seems to be the case for form. Communications a chain of newspapers and other media outlets situated in the mid west a few years ago. The company's newspapers rolled out a digital subscription model and so far it seems to be performing above expectations. I recently interviewed stephanie. Shorter forums chief digital marketing officer about the gargantuan amount of work that went into this pivot and what strategies resulted in the most success before we jump into the view. I wanna talk about a recent article published on my newsletter. I went deep on the company called blocks group. It started out. As a cryptocurrency events company before launching a thriving podcast network that generates millions of dollars in revenue both founders walk me through how grew the business and their plans to build a crypto focus news organization. There's only one way to read analysis like this and it's by subscribing to my substance newsletter. Go to simon's dot sub stack dot com that simon owen stott sub stacked dot com or. Just google the word. Simon owens and newsletter. Okay onto my interview with stephanie. Hey stephanie thanks for joining us. Yeah thanks so much for having me simon. So you work for immediate chain called forum communications Tell me a little bit about that. Like where is it. What kind of media properties doesn't own. And how long has it been around cell phone. Communications is a family owned media company. We've been around since eighteen seventy eight Were actually located in the upper midwest. So we have properties in north dakota south dakota wisconsin and minnesota Our headquarters is in fargo. North dakota And we have twenty plus print and digital news brands all throughout the midwest as some broadcast and commercial print divisions as well and that's completely family owned as opposed to you know somebody's larger chains that are owned by private equity like this is like a longtime family owned newspaper oil. It's not just newspapers but mainly a newspaper chain. That's exactly right. It's a sixth generation family on media company. So it's been owned or operated by family all throughout its ownership so you were brought in as its first chief digital marketing officer correct like why did they build that role for you. Yeah that's correct so a while. Back a bunch of executives were sitting around a table and really talking about what the future of the company looked like and They knew that they needed to create a digital subscription model. But they weren't exactly sure where to begin and so brought in a consultant who used to work at the new york times and she came in and started to give some advice and she said well first off Where's your marketing department. And they all sort of looked around the room at each other and they said well we don't have one and she's like well that's step one so They followed her advice and they posted a role for chief digital marketing officer. And that's gonna wear my role came to be. And what was your background like you. Didn't you didn't work newspapers before. Did you know this was completely new for me. So i previously worked in the healthcare benefits space. But i was in marketing. Their i was. Vp of marketing for local healthcare benefits company and Really just took a leap of faith after meeting with the the people at the form. Communications office And really loved what i heard about what they wanted to do. And decided to really switch gears with my career and it was really great decision and and basically kind of you know the even though you weren't in media this was about like kind of product tising and and selling something directly to consumers so it's sort of like fit within. Still within your purview. Of of what you knew about right exactly so my previous role Prior to coming to form communications was all about selling a product to consumers and so This really isn't all that different. The the product has changed And what i really like about it. Is i find it a little bit more mission driven a little bit more purposeful and can really get behind the the why of what we're doing and Yeah that's always really appealed to me. Tell me about your first few months in the role. How did you get the lay of the land and begin building strategy for the expansion into the digital subscriptions so i would say the first few months was really like drinking out of a firehose as they say it was being thrown into a lot of new things that i didn't know a whole lot about And so i was really guided by. Just what i did know to be true. Which is everything about how to market something to consumers and the the biggest challenge there is we had previously been giving our content away for free online and now we were heading to this model where we weren't going to be doing that anymore. And so the biggest thing to figure out was how can you move from giving away your content for free to starting to ask people to pay for that content and we decided that the biggest the biggest strategy there is. We need to invest in content. And we need to invest in our products. And so that's what we did. And media's is kind of like a really weird industry that's not like a lot of other industries in the sense that like the people who are building the cord core product. Which is the editorial or kind of weirdly separated from the business side in different ways and they're all kinds of different ethics rules in different stuff like that like. Did you feel like you need to educated on like how media company works as opposed to like pure consumer products company. I did there. There was a little bit a friction at i. Just you know with some of the decisions that you have to make about for instance what you put behind the pay wall. No one when there's an extreme community safety story how do you handle that. From an ethical standpoint you want people to be able to access that kind of content and so a big part of the early days. My role was sitting down with people in the newsroom. Inter division and just understanding how they operate and what decisions they have to make and then how does the pay wall change any of that if if it does so. What are some of the major hurdles that a legacy newspaper chain has to consider that a like a brand new digital site. Like my the one that i run like doesn't have to think about like you had to figure out how to take these princip scrubbers in these legacy systems and and combine them with a paywall which is from a logistical standpoint. That's pretty difficult to do right. It is quite difficult in fact I would say the most challenging piece of all was just the technology component of everything so we had like you said legacy systems and then we needed to integrate that with all of these other systems that were newer so that the email platform the paywall platform obviously and so many other pieces and when we were grappling with all of that we actually secured help from another consultant. Who used to work at nasa. He's really bright. Guy really has a good hand on technology and he helped us draw out. This integration map. And he's drawing all these lines from one platform to another and it just looks like this giant messy web on a sheet of paper and he looks up at all of us and he says this is complicated and you know if the guy from nasa complicated it's complicated and so that was by far the most challenging part and it's never ending. I mean every time we had a new system integration and that's the part that really a keeps us up at night sometimes and did you have to overhaul the whole website or was there just like a way to just put some key. Take some kind of membership or subscription platform and just put it over the website. I wouldn't say we had to overhaul the website but we made the decision that we wanted to because again we were going from this state of giving away our content for free to suddenly asking people to pay for a product that we weren't previously asking them to pay for and so we wanted to make sure that we are improving that product and improving the discover ability of the content. That people wanted And so we decided to before even beginning to implement the paywall. Create a plan for redesigning all of our network of news sites that sort of step one and then from there. We felt good about launching that paywall on top of them and so prior to launching. I'm guessing that you were kind of projecting convey conversion rates like how. How quickly did you hope to acquire new digital subscribers to where it would make up a significant part of your business at least prior to launching. We really didn't know what exactly to expect. you know. we had talked to others in the space and they they had shared stories of pretty decent growth in the first few months but pretty low expectations overall. Just as you grapple with all the challenges of implementing a new model like this and so we just sort of set an arbitrary goal of ten thousand digital subscribers in the first year It wasn't really super scientific. We just felt like that seemed like a reasonable goal for our entire network of sites and then we wound up tripling that in the first year and so we who either really underestimated our goal or we really Did surprisingly well for what we set out to do. But i'm gonna hope it's the second one. Yeah so ten thousand subscribers across twenty different newspapers Seems like a reasonable goal. That you

"So and so oh good you know what I'm saying. Oh good. And he nailed it and there was so much fun. I was so happy that he was able to like do that. He'd like genuinely gravity right here because he knew you were the one who pulled it. Yeah and so then. Afterwards he goes So he's rap on Chris. Webber spelled like nine thirty ten o'clock in a they go We go so which argument do now and I go. Well we gotTA finished marble. Hang out for a little bit obsolete so then you know kind of like. I'm going back video. Village action suit in the next sack. You can see his shadow in a shot and the director of that and Chris eating a donut like he has no idea. Because I don't want to basically went from. Oh Shit is Chris Robertson. Oh Shit He. Everyone hates Chris trailer. What's break we come back? And there's so many things did we have you back on the show. Oh and Smith is with us. This is slow down ranby. I heard this the other day and I love the achieve seeds On Smith we'll talk our talk Kapernick on the other side of this thing. Just lots to talk talk about the summertime. We'll get on the other side Right we'll be right back Some so what they knock before he's got a limited. Hey guys welcome to the show. Owen Smith is here. Follow him on twitter. Owen Smith the number four real Owen Smith four a real twitter instagram and instagram And live shows people can see you out. Can they find out how to live DOT com. Okay I'm I'm I'm usually at the comedy store Improv or to laugh at any road stuff or mostly around not right now But I'll be I'll be. I don't know I gotta get a Netflix special or something. I love it. Whatever we do on making you come to my school benefit? Because I can't wait crazy on that I can't wait so good the stuff about you and your relationship with your wife and all that so good about the sneakers on this show that all all of it all the time well and you know sports you wrote for the. Sp's you know so so let's talk about who some quick hits I wanNA talk about. I want your a perspective on the capture nick thing because it's great the chirping back and forth between Stephen Smith and Eric Reid is fascinating to me and so I'm trying trying to understand it. And making huge capital defenders fries protests. Yeah and then at the same time we just go okay. Well what is he trying to do. I mean and this is what I don't know. Maybe you better perspective on this is e trying to get back into the League Or is he just trying to make a statement as you're trying to mask unmask. How how Shitty the League actually is? Well I wanna I just WanNa even take it back. Another step is we are looking at Colin like he's like to static attic individual like we only see him but you don't realize like what he's been through these last years right like his livelihood has been taken from him except that he had a a huge contract with Nike. Do his thing but his too. Yeah but his whole place for this whole like he looking at the one man on earth. WHO's not allowed to be angry right? So what does that feel. You know what I mean like. If he chose any type of anger it the narrative on it is spun to be so careful with how staff staff year. But if any of this and so is is he So is he Martin he's everyone wants him to be Martin Luther King Knish and just be nonviolent and just you know taking a nap regard and no one wants him to have a little bit of Malcolm in you know and so I feel like you see again is even thirty. I think he's maybe he's thirty one. Yes all this has happened to them so oh just when I watched his reaction ready to play like when he was like just that was like stuff built up like he loves the game he wanted to play the game and the thing he was shining light to a very simple thing in his mind he wasn't I don't feel like he was like everyone's saying that. He ruined his the narrative of him ruining his the job interview. And how you I mean that is a perspective hip two types of mindsets people who who are employees and there's people employers right so I like. We always do that like with like. Why do you name your children like my mom named Me Owen? Because she wanted me to be able to get a job but I don't WanNa work for anybody. You know what I mean like. Look what you did your your own I wanna I WANNA be my own employer. I'm still currently working working with people in Weird ways but my spirit is that of an employer so my spirit is my my inner spirit is a dude named like you know. Look of a D'Amato just whatever you know. Like I have a yes. So he does looking at a guy if he was if he was more. I hate to say this but if he was like more If he knew how to hit those talking points was more like pointed in specific. I don't WanNa say ticket but just marketer marketer into what he was trying to do and could be really clear I don't think any of this would be like they see. I kinda think to to me. I felt like he felt like he thought as soon as he realized that the media wouldn't be allowed to go right. Go to the tryout. All his trust is all just trust because why wouldn't the whole. NFL show off all the owners already said they colluded against him anyway. Why why wouldn't they all show up and then all the owners come out afterwards? It'd be like he's not good and nobody there from the media could be like we saw it because you know what I'm saying. There's only they would control the narrative. As far as that's concerned I understand like why couldn't the owners allow the media in there because you know what I'm saying there was something that is everybody's a little to kind of blade here like. Why couldn't they have bent on that and said look we're GONNA ALLOW ESPN to cover it? We're GONNA Lau one play. NFL NETWORK NFL network is is the one place it's going to be allowed to cover. Why couldn't the NFL network? Lean on the owners. You get down to. Hey let's cover this thing we're gonNA shoot. We're going to record this because I think they didn't want him to get that important To be that important this to go away and so that it Bagi with that I agree with a lot of that and I feel like he was just trying to take his power back and move it to this this place now the execution of it is what everyone was happy more and then they were talking about the shirt that he wore A. It's like yeah I mean is but but it's like you said like on certain on a certain level just wear plain shirt man. Don't let anything if I'm him and this is what talk about the don't let anything get get in the way of what you're trying to do any if you WANNA get back in the league right but what is it. What what can you do more? Where could he do more good for whatever he's trying to do? Is it in the League or is it against the league in moments like this. That's the question. Well I mean when the play okay so there but I feel like the thing that he was taking a knee for is still occurred. Yes and so what he took me for. I don't really see anyone of influence and power addressing doing doing doing the best they could to try to address it. You know what I mean early. Yeah he has brought awareness to it To some people who weren't ready to see it or hear it and then so now you gotta deal with the time it takes for people cheaper to go through all of that but I don't know what more we can dummy. He's not working in that. I don't know how much money you got like from from Nike. Achey should have gotten a lot and yeah and I think you know. But that's the whole thing.

"When I when if you've been the comedy store. I didn't assume everybody knew me. I just thought maybe they don't know who I am. You know and I I imagine the all the headliners will but if you're a new comic coming up and I don't on the comedy story I don't. I don't know if you know who I am overnight so it's Kinda sitting back almost like a fly on the wall so I'm not being standoffish. I'm just trying to assess the situation like what's going on comedy club tonight who knows me who doesn't but I there at the time I knew everybody at the Comedy Club all the comedy clubs when you're when you I get to L. The addiction is always there. It's just now your recovery so they had all these people in recovery that spoke in between the music acts and would tell their give their testimony until her story and Chris was one of the people that was going to be speak him and so you had thousands on top of thousands of people there for the concert outdoor concert but then they had like a private tent where the artists could hang out and then you know sponsors and everything and they were serving food and and stuff like that no drinks no drinks in the recovery ten I almost said food and drinks drinks water soda juice Gatorade but Christmas people speak in so that's what we met that day and then we exchanged info and we stayed in touch and actually got him to come the my high school a year later to speak speak at my high school as part of my my T._v.. "Oh, we shouldn't do this, but they said, you know, they don't know if they're going with the white guy or a black guy yet. But just the bad part is I really put myself out there, like I called everybody. Yo I hate to do this, but I'm going to do it. Of fuck. Somebody just put you wish you had my flyest ride was that you wish you have my flies girl. My pimp del ride, and I said, am I big white dick? That's what I was gonna say in the movie, but I didn't get the part barbershop. Yeah, that's funny mortgage. Remember that part and looking at the live feed? But oh, so if anybody has any good vibes. Just put out there. I'm not gonna say pray he will say that, you know, pray for me to get this part. Look, there's so much she should be praying for. Let's just be honest. There's world hunger. There's rapists. There's murderers, there's people going through a lot worship that me trying to get a part in a movie. So I'm not gonna ask for anybody's prayers. Just good thoughts. Well wishes that's what I want out of this. But that movie can you tell I want it? I really want this part, hopefully, hopefully it'll happen if not I get it that is what it is. But I think he just put you keep putting out there in the universe and events. He comes back to you. That's the philosophy. I have you just keep putting out there and keep trying to grind in the Vince -ly it comes back to you, but not what you think, like, okay, I'll give an example for barbershop. I really want the part and barbershop, but I didn't get it. And. And I ended up the director Tim story, and we're going to him on think like a man, and I remember I told Mr. about barbershop, and he goes, I didn't know he was like that was my first movie and as I, I know I go, but it was crazy. I knew everything about the movie because I wanted the part so bad just like an over thing about fatherhood, but because I really wanted this part, but I really want this part, but I ended up working with Tim, eventually, on a movie that was bigger than barbershop, like, membership huge. So, you know, just hopefully hopefully it works out if not it is what it is. But whoever they pick probably gonna suck skill. Dangled do what I would have did with mother focus on his kid. All right. Let me recap. I'm in DC this weekend, June thirty to the thirteen to the sixteenth at the improv, and I'm shooting the pilot after that. "When we went over that. But it never it never contorted to our body. We're just a hard as bed. So we returned it and got a new fluffy. Nice mattress. So. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So let me let me go over my schedule June eighth. I'm filming my next Showtime special. It's called. I don't know what I'm gonna call you. It's either going to be called white crack bread or doing what I do. I'll ask you guys. What should I if you see me live than you probably know what I'm talking about those jokes? What should I call my Showtime special doing what I do or white crack bread which one? Yeah. I'll let you guys decide. Let me see Dallas, Texas. I'm coming may thirtieth thirty first days are may. I'm not sure it'll June third basically that last weekend it may first week in June. I'm at the Addison improv and then June thirteen to the sixteenth. I'm in Washington DC at the improv next week may nine to the twelfth. I'm in Virginia Beach, and the funny bone Virginia Beach, then we care for that. I'm in Saint Louis at the helium comedy club in Saint Louis. Like, I said any any time you want to know what my schedule is just go to Gary Owen dot com. Looks like doing what I do is the that that seems to be the what you guys want to me to call my special. So I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna do that. And I'll I'll go from there had interesting morning. I'm gonna get into my stuff in a minute. But instrument my daughter got in a car wreck this morning, she's fine. She's healthy. But this is this is where you got to not rush to judgment before, you know, the whole story because I'm at the barbershop, but give him a haircut fresh as you can see and my daughter calls and goes dead. I just got in a wreck she goes. But I'm okay. And then I was like swan about the pool. I just put it in the barshop like I was getting out of my car. I'm about to get my car to go get her as he has mom's here, and I'm assuming it's her fault. She sixteen teenager. I am been Iraq knock on wood. Ever neither as my wife, and she just now gets her license like three months ago, and she's in a wreck. So I'm thinking, it's her fault. Now, it wasn't her fault. We we live in a new neighborhood there. It's a gated community in their building. All these homes all around our house. So there's construction workers and construction, trucks and dirt trucks. It's just a lot going on. And one of the guys didn't see her any backed up when I'm big dirt trucks into her car. Bam. So she's okay. Everybody's okay. But it wasn't her fault. I was like, wow. Glad interested judgment. Because in my brain. I was like yes, she did that she got in that Rick. But I will save my daughter. She's a responsible driver. So I take it back. But yeah as little Fender bender today. And I guess the the the big news of the week was John singleton passing away his family's taking. Him off life support. And it just got me thinking like I've run into John probably twenty times in my life. Good guy. Nice guy. We talked a few times never got the opportunity to work with them. But once it's weird when when someone passes away, that's when you start to think about all their accomplishments and life in what they've done, you just it's like, it's a time to reflect love you'll say, we gotta give people love why they're here. And we I think a lot of times you do give people love whether here, but well, somebody passes away. That's when you start to reevaluate somebody's life. And I was thinking the the movies that made the biggest impact on me as far as John singleton was obviously.

"When you when you were in the NBA like that. You're more worried about the team and the coaching, you know, because let's be honest, the NBA facilities are all nice. Remember, be nice and others. But every NBA locker rooms nice. Every you know, you're getting the best of the best on the road with the hotels and everything. So but the thing about is. I mean with Oakland. There's just not I don't think there's any five star hotels. There is the Marriott downtown now. Everybody stays in San Francisco. I think all the NBA teams thing in San Fran when he come here. So just logistically it does make good socks. But it just makes more sense to have in San Francisco, but I wish Oklahoma Bill like a Ritz or somewhere on the water some high end. So they could keep an NBA team here. God that was so much fun last night. That was one of the best times. I had. I want to you at an NBA game with you. You all know you almost four. It's I know somebody shoots a basket. I mean, I used to work Kenya. When you go to game. Will you be so lost? I'll be looking at that. You could be on the phone the the lies. Who's the best who's the best players more than who's the greatest NBA player of all time. The greatest NBA player magic. I can say Larry Bird for you. What's magic last name, Charleston authors? You just got to get out there and make it happen. I mean granted you do need. I hit it. We'd be like I'll just do by myself. Everybody's some kind of help, you know. But just seeing the lives he touched in an impact he was having on on his community. It just inspiring anybody. That knows it. She knows of him. Just you know, I just wanna share that that dude. Inspire me. And I hate that it had to happen in death that I was I was with. And that's the thing just him. You know, his last day go into the clothing store to get some clothes for a buddy. Maybe it would be an aid instead of six and eight seventy if you knew what was about. I don't know. It was a good movie generous, the movie was a six it was just okay. I think there was so much hype around it to that didn't live up to the high the couldn. There's no way could that's what I'm saying to get out was the bar so high there's no way to live up to the higher, but you know, people about the the level of its scariness. I an honest person. It was it was it was like that fake scary. By will never happen. Whereas that pet cemetery. I can you. I was looking at the the the trailer like like this like it was Gary. Okay. "But when Kim becoming on like this look as the shaven that'd be something. He's making their day about Jumanji to is really shaping up to be something special. You wish he'd be shaving some special? Now good this thing man, but some special. I think Jumanji one was supposed to be really really good. Wasn't it you I didn't see it. I mean, I did not see it. So too could be and this is what I say. I was saying us is very thought provoking. So I didn't want my money back because very thought provoking in the end after hearing people talk about it. And I don't know what the hell is going on. So maybe I'm done for the movie for us. Yeah. Somebody should I didn't understand. I understood it once I once I posted on social media. Maybe wanna see it again. Like Libby wanted to run back into theater? I'm not gonna wait. What's on HBO? Yeah. But this one thing when you go see us, we don't give it away get on YouTube and just search us the movie, and then people will break down certain scenes at an end go see the beauty of it is everyone has a different take. I kinda the same. Yeah. But it's a little different. Like a lot of people have different takes about us. And I thought that was that was bring on his part angry that is brilliant on his part. So. Goes. But you didn't like it. I just thought it was okay. Okay. Not like an okay, just two different things. Like, there's some movies. I had turned all fix. Okay. Sixers and band that was that's a d. No one to ten. Yeah. We'll get out was there's a ni-. Yeah. But but but as far as we're rating, the movie itself was a six, but the fact that he makes you think and wonder and ask questions that was a ten. The acting was a tin is good, man. God, she's good. I think the father has some great comedy relief. Who's he the the data in the movie that was from the Black Panther? Are. We as disrespectful you. We should probably you should probably research that frequently podcast show. We I know Know who's. who's at the garden by panther. Oh, wow. Chevy bozeman. Yeah. Michael b Jordan was the dad, right? No right now, the kids are good. He was everybody was what the the white day was funny as shit in that movie the dance. Yeah. Yeah. The white dad was because there's a seam in the movie where the there's there's there's a la- pizza, and then there's the white family this lady the white mom looks down and says to her husband. "But it was a weird kind of scary. It wasn't like I can't ever be at home like that pet cemetery movie that they are advertising. Scare and so I will ever ever see that. This was like. Oh, no like fake scary. I don't know. It wasn't like it wasn't what I was able to see it. And it was fine. But houses, okay? But you know, what? The here's the problem with with Jordan Peele is get out. Well, no, he set the bar so high with get out it's hard to come in. He should have made like Kiana to where did like a a slapstick comedy. 'cause man when you come out like with get out as your first direct to'real writer debut almost like Shalam on when he did the six cents. Yeah. It's like dude the bar so fricking high. It's like nothing you can do is going to compare to. But the, you know, the studio don't really care. There's like look everyone's gonna go see this, right? Let's make money off this, right? But then when I read the Congo. See it I want to be supportive. So I want you to go and see it. Well, you can't say you don't like a movie, and then tell people to go see it. You are not me. So you may really enjoy able to kind of like, can you really enjoy the movie I am just saying for me. It was. All right. That's what I would like to say. But please go see it. Avas good. I didn't believe they're like I want my money back. It was not as good as listen. It's was not as good as get out. And I wish more people could be honest and just say that just say, hey, hey, this movie's really good it's gonna make you think you're probably gonna wanna see it twice. But it's probably not gonna be as good as get. You the only person I've ever heard say something like that was the creator of breaking bed, the creator breaking bad said, look, we're doing better call Saul. And it's a really good show. But listen, it is not breaking bad. He didn't say it was as good or word. He goes in a break in bed. So he basically said look don't be going there with expectations break in band. It's a really honestly breaking basil all time favorite shows. But better call Saul is frigging, really good. Not as good as breaking bad. But a really good show that I enjoy watching a lot. But you wish people would say that and not the not to throw Kevin Hart on the bus. But I'll just do it real quick. Okay. When Kevin does when he does movies, and he makes comments like we have raised the bar. All this one's shaping up to be something special. I feel like Kevin like Kevin. Let's just be honest your best movers. Think like a man it was by far that movie, there's no holes in that movie. The movie where he's carrying from the okay? Why that's not a comedy though. And I'm sorry. I'm just talking about comedy. Yeah. The upside. Yeah. I wanna see. No. Yeah. It's really good. It's really good. I watched it on the plane, actually. But let's just be honest. The best movie think like a man, and I'm a little biased because I was in it. I'm a little biased..

I really. And you know, when you what your kids you just move differently because you, you know, you're trying to be more adult like, so you're not moving like you still at ninety eight MacArthur. You know, eighteen years old you're trying to just do things differently. You know, do you don't find it also like car when you're in a kids, and you really want to express some road rage. True true while I'm glad you made the right decision. A dingo off just. Then you got home safe. And we did have a we have good lunch at day would found a nice little spot in walnut creek called sunrise bistro. It's actually very sweet a nice light calmed her down a lot. It really did the French toast. Thank you guys for that. Thank you. So anyways. Let's let's go to something fan lighter this ladder. Oh, there's definitely liner. We went and saw the movie us, I still got questions. And this is another good thing about social media. We go see the movie us, I walk other confuses shit. And also, and I make a postal my Instagram about the movie and people just broke it down in the comments. And I was like, oh, oh, yeah. That's why the Rapids. They're the tethered were eating them. Got it. Can you say spoiler? What she used a spoiler. There's not that many people. This is be real it ain't like millions or watching this podcast lab right now. Spoiler alert. We're good trust. It made seventy million. It's probably over one hundred billion by now more fun. You know? So the four of you that are listening there may be a few spoilers. Yeah. But here's the here's the thing. Jordan, Peele, his brain works. So far ahead of everybody else's because now I wanna see the movie again that it's been broken down to me. And I can watch it again and realize some of the some of the comments and the like when the four tethered people showed up the red that's on the red. And the you know lupita was talking to herself as the lady red. She was making statements that now when you watch like, oh, oh that makes sense. Oh, okay. So it was it was interesting, man. So my okay, I don't get because I don't want to spoil anything is. You know, like so everything that's going on with me in delta and people being sold supportive. "I said hold on. So I want to play you kidding me? I am. I am on this flight. There's no way I'm on this flight. And I'm like so now see has the now take my ticket and let me on the plane. So I said, and I'm on the phone, I go. Oh, yeah. Forgot Diane told me to call. He said literally, she goes, she'll, sir. Grow up, but behind me. So now, I'm in line waiting to get on the plane, right? And the guy behind these dying laughing, and I go I'm sitting here looking at everybody. I can't go on this flaming this is crazy. I made it and then she took she ripped up motherfucker. So that's what I'm saying that wasn't a racial issue. But it was an interaction between the white the black lady that I could have been like all the black ticket agents at delta all bad. No. That was just one lady that had to any. What's crazy? I still see her. I to this day remembers. I don't know that was like five years ago. That was hysterical though. I can't believe I got on Sar grow up. When I told the lady only hundred Dan told me to call. She was so pissed got an my luggage made it boom, my luggage. Megan, and I made it both of them. But you know, that was just again that was this lady having a bad day the way she talked to me though with. So like, I was looking are like look, I'm diamond on delta fly every week. I know the rules. I probably know the rules more than most of the flight attendants and then our ticket agents. I'm sorry, and oh she was hot. She was hot or the guy behind me. We laughed the whole way. Even when I got off the plane. He just looking at me, he was still laughing. So I mean, there's always going to be when you get over eighty thousand employees newsflash. Yeah. There's bad apples. There's going to be there's going to be. There are some racist employs at delta on both sides without question eighty thousand employees. Hopefully, I hope this guy is a racist. Hoping learn from it, and I hope he. Realized that the era of his Wade's in. I wanna things that I did tell the delta delta rep that I had been speaking to over the last couple of days, and that's today. But are the last couple of days was I hope if he gets any, you know, one of the lessons. I hope he gets out of this is that you just you don't know who people know, and you know, so don't try to judge people by how they're dressed in. You know, what I mean, he probably had no idea saying something like that would be here. Like delta call in his house. You know that we will be where we are. But you cannot just look at people anymore and kind of figure out who they know the type of life. They're living with Bill Gates period. Would get Bill Gates who who's the guy in Nebraska this loaded for forget his name drawn a blank, Warren Buffett. Oh, look at Warren Buffett. He still lives in the same house. He's always lived in Warren Buffett's still eats Dairy Queen on. On tuesdays. That's his day his house when you go to Omaha is right there on the street. Right. Just look and there's Warren Buffett. Yeah. Then when I got it goes like university of Nebraska gains, just in the stands like in the sixteenth row. Not a sweet he's not courtside. Honestly, if I was via as money I'd be courtside or sweet. I'm just gonna I'm sorry. I'm gonna I'm gonna enjoy the perks of my labor. You know what I mean? But you yeah. You can't is a book by its cover at all any, you know. He clearly clearly I don't know if you had a bad day with a black person that day that week. I don't know if his team lost an w tournament and a black guy hit the game winning shot. Maybe not maybe isn't a morning person. I don't know. But don't listen. "It was closest to the desk. So everybody was using that. But my thing is if your issue was you are blocking access to this aircraft. Why wouldn't you say there why when he just say excuse me, ma'am, you're blocking access to the aircraft? Why would he ask me if I was in first class? You know, I just don't get it. And I was really I was really disappointed by the statement. Because in our conversation, she they were, you know, she came across like, they were only owning it. But in a statement, it was like me and my sixteen Masic seen year old daughter. This is because of us, and you know, I don't know how I'm moving forward now. Because my intent was never to make a statement. You know, just just do right? I did. And now, I feel like I've been in a position because of their statement to defend, you know, myself and my sixteen year old daughter like I just don't understand what could have been different. And I am like I just really disappointed by the statement. So then they expanded the statement. And in the new statement, I don't even know if they said, he did ask her, you know, did her. She was a profile. I was clearly profile leisurely. Well, here's there's me flying a lot in me making the statement. And I it was funny because some people said like delta doesn't care Delta's raises. The delta isn't racist. There's I mean, they have eight over eighty thousand employees, and I would I would I would guess. I would guess twenty thirty thousand employees are black. I'm just guessing because I've I have Atlanta. It's ninety percent of the people were black and Atlanta that work at delta. So I don't think it's a racist company. I just think this one dude that for whatever reason had a bad day. I don't I don't want to say he's racist, maybe at a racial moment. But I got it. Like what what is the solution to me would have been easy? If he would have just went either covers tracks ask the white do behind you. If he's in first or. Realize he was wrong. Oh my God. I man I could see how that could look like, I was profound you. I'm very sorry. That wasn't my not my intention. Then it's it's done. A lot of times you give people. They're having a bad day at work. And they they take it out on the the customers. You know, what I mean, like, it's not it's not it's not the ticket agents fault that they're you know, there's people in line that are route. It's not there's there's not a lot of overhead space. It's not just, you know, just not their fault. But they get the brunt of it a lot of times it ticket agents. I'm always, and you are too. I mean, obviously, I'm married to you. But we're always, very polite. Everybody. Very polite. I just disagree. I think the experience I had clearly made me feel like. There was some races overtures and my experience that morning. So it was either racism or classism at its finest. But it it was it was just not good. It was not good. And I'm not saying this is my issue. So I I I was saying delta clearly is not a racist company. But after the statements and switching blame to blame myself and mine teenager means is it a culture of this like within the company because if they would've never made this statement, I wouldn't be making my statement, if they would would've made a statement that said that we are, you know, sorry that this happened to them, and blah, blah, blah without ever trying to say I'm standing in the wrong place when it's boarding time. When my ticket or you know, just some excuse, and that's all it was. Because he wouldn't come at me like that. So now, it's like I feel like you're spinning it. So maybe they don't care. That's that. That's where I'm at right now. I'm just really disappointed in the NFL like so after that incident, you know, I'm talking to the woman from delta. And you know, I'm buying it was she saying, you know, hook line, and sinker. And you know, and then they may turn around like almost like I was contained like jump get on her while we do this. And I think.

Came got a got a contract with Oakland Raiders who's going to be in Vegas next year. And if you think Antonio Brown, you think Vegas more than team you and Tony Brown. You think Miami LA or Vegas, and he got to go. So it was gonna play in Oakland for one year, which is a great city, which we live in AM. Then he gets to go to Vegas am he guy like more money?
