"I don't know where he says, I wish they had more penalties for leaving competitive matches now that it's free to play so the general audience would be tempted to leave in the middle of a match. I mean, there's a lot of other games that are quite strict with this, right? Valorant, I think, imposes pretty bad penalties, CS go, maybe they're just trying to go more casual here, guys. I don't know. Do you think? The generosity in the losses from an MMR perspective, no penalties for leaving. Do you guys think this is just we're trying to get more casual here? Maybe that's part of it. Definitely could be I think endemic base that's there that is probably going to be there in 6 months. I think it's super good comment, I agree. And it's the part of the problem is just all of the ability. Explain this for people to appreciate what's going on. We would have to understand how to be on a controller after you're right. Federal barbecue says you could probably explain push games payload missions and Overwatch to parents, at least the base of gist of it. Yeah. All right guys. I got caught up. Great discussion. Thank you for all the comments, by the way. Who knew? Maybe this had enough interesting data play. Let's talk about I want to move from Overwatch though. I think an equally popular game. And one that generates as much passion. And that's FIFA, you guys mentioned it. I think it was Lindsey who mentioned it or Jeff who mentioned it. Just like there were two Overwatch stories this week, there were two FIFA stories that I keyed into that I thought were interesting. And let me just start I'll present it the same way I presented the Overwatch stories. So the first again I think definitely could be. FIFA 23 enjoys record book breaking launch with 10.3 million players in their first week. Last year series entry attracted 9.1 million players in ten days. By the way, one Jake, is there some reason why games look at ten days discouraged like that? I know. That is a weird one for me. You typically probably don't contain admissions. I think from the streaming perspective, this has always had a hard time getting caught up. And great discussion. Thank you for chatting with me. Who knew Overwatch would be so selfish? It's interesting. And let's talk about what I think. I want to move from mobile watch this week and drop the podcast. So pharma obviously that we generate as much information. But the interesting thing again, it's back to the unique channels. Just like that we think about our story Overwatch to FIFA stories that I feed into that I thought were interesting. And let me just be presented in the same way that the Overwatch broadcasting on top. So the first thing across to 300,000.

"And then 6 months from now, the PVE or a year from now, the PV game comes out. And now it's over, we're talking about Overwatch two all over again. People read downloaded people playing it again. Does anyone think maybe they did this purposely? To bring halo game. But God placed after he did his placement matches. I just don't like gold. Maybe, but at this point it's been however many months. So everyone loses their fastball at some point. I think it's just taking a long time. By the way, Kieran says yes. That's fair. That's the case. We still don't have that for four years. Chris says a lot of pros and high skill streamers are having problems with the incredible unbalanced. Yeah, I've been seeing the same thing. Rick says the biggest disappointment to me has nothing to do with the characters. They haven't done anything to promote Overwatch league with the launch, and the numbers are as bad as they ever have been for the scene. I mean, guys, this is a bit of a rabbit hole Overwatch league, 'cause I don't think the game is the problem with Overwatch league. Does anyone think the game is the issue? About Overwatch two all over again, people will be down there. It's hard to watch. Someone is playing. I don't think so. I'm so interested to bring halo up again. No clue what's going on. Which to be fair, that may not matter. Maybe I just don't think it's for. All of these old navy and maybe like maybe like at this point Overwatch, there's however no one to support an opportunity. But I think the Overwatch versus a game of FIFA or by the way, king says yes. You have no idea what's going on. That's the case. There's no one to think that Overwatch league at least 50% of their problems could be fixed by some good drama between players. Like something to get people talking about, Overwatch league. I keep saying it's Overwatch league has always been too clinical. The numbers are faster than ever have been for the same. I mean, guys, this is a bit of a rabbit hole over there. Literally, because I don't think the game is difficult to watch to Jeff's point in your point, Lindsey. I give you that. I just think there are games that are hard to watch. Some would show a message to someone for the first time. It is confusing. No clue. Which to be fair. But maybe there's drama there that anyone can sort of understand and the players are at each other's throats, but. You think the players have enough game of route out yet. So you didn't know what scum on the field. If you don't play not whatsoever. No one thinks that Overwatch league, at least 50% of their problems could be fixed by some good drama. Are they playing enough players? People talking about that. That's another good question too. It's always been interesting. Overwatch league is always one, two clinical trips. 50% of their problem could be solved by better movement. We can't do the audience watch. They're in full focus. Literally hard to watch that. I think that's a part of it too, is being able to game is even more social and more player facing content allows them to give you that. That has to come from the top though, right? Like that has to be encouraged and fostered and supported. Almost designed. It has to be engineered. You get a player who's maybe a little bit 5% worse or 2% worse, but it has a big personality and a big following.

"And we don't know if it pays off. I'm not sure they are. I think again, like even prior to the purposes of a week, there's a lot of information, especially on time. Like, in general, I always find the E sport. To the most hardcore, both on the social side, similar to how important I did as well. There's probably E sports and much closer to what the diagram is by isolating. I don't think I've ever followed in sport. That's going to be kind of a word that I play in the game. I follow as I play a game. And so followed it. It's always like, how do you leverage to monetize oh, this is a new sport. I think it's the stats are not necessarily bringing attention over to the cause. I never watched one. And why Fortnite has backed off, I started making a big two sport for work on a big surprise. I do like this question, though, because I don't think the eSports are ways that companies market their games. I don't know if you're interested to dissect women that actually happens. What's interesting I think from that definitely is the case if you think about it. But it doesn't necessarily pay off in players that we know, again, without knowing any of the numbers. We don't know if he's off employers, but anecdotes brings me back to the thought earlier. Interesting. Okay, well, if we think of the purposes of league formation, like in general, I always find the aspects of the most like for maybe it does kind of widen the base a little bit more in people. There's probably much closer if you look at the Venn diagram. Yeah, I think it's difficult because Overwatch is obviously that's going to be much tighter than Overwatch league fans and all of us back in 2017. This is happening. So I was like, how do you leverage finally arrived? This is the flashiest thing in the challenge. Not necessarily bringing mainstream attention to the game. I always think that if they do not work on why Fortnite style, I think from doing big question for everybody and things like that because I don't think that drives that many people to their own minds. I don't know if you. But again, back to the same factors as before. Are they going to be better off on multiple platforms better than YouTube exclusive? I think all those things can play into that. Great question. Ten audience. Christian says, well, I do like the 500 brings me back to the bottom of the structure of herding. Ten plus years. That's always going to be hard. You know, those are champagne. I feel it moving towards a model like that. Maybe it does come out in a widened basis. But it is, I've heard already complaints about the MMR goes up, but yeah, I think it's difficult. One of the Overwatch players want to see what you guys saw in the space. Remember who it was, all of us back in 2017. We didn't even necessarily think of the eSports has finally arrived. This is the splashiest. But I think he loses the other fastball at some point. It works too as a sequel forced onto a team that takes to make a sequel to the tried to make PVE work. We still don't have after four years, but that coming. Factories. Does anyone think the piece are they going to be better? And I put my tinfoil hat on for a second. Do you think they delayed the PVE purposely to try and sustain player base for longer, right? Because we're talking about 6 months from now, if it dies down a little bit, people are a little bit less excited. They stop paying some big streamers.

"Call of Duty wall. Where every year, we're just going to see a new Overwatch. I think it's a combination here, because re skinning, it's new, it's fun, three point doesn't necessarily have to be a good chase, but keep that question myself. We're going to come to it as excitement on common want to Visa's shout out dunkey Duncan. Overwatch two is going to be balanced at the end of the day. And then on any 5 days. A couple new characters, but the free to play model as well as the circles. You guys think free to play was the thing driving the market. I like that thought to me. Because you also got to add just a little bit here for you. I'm formally not that this is a bad thing. I've been firmly in the campaign to play a game because the boat here is so many underwhelming for the $60. I close my eyes. It's exactly what you know for a number of new characters. A little bit of a recession on the interface and you have 5 or 5 instead of wall is. We saw what Fortnite plays out exactly the same. I think it's a combination here because that's getting new. It's fun. It's disappointing from a point. It doesn't necessarily have to be more of a 5 year old came out and this is the best. Part. All we got, I want to pin it on. I think the perfect storm Jimmy is alluding to that a lot of reasons why as well as the numbers are surprising to me. I think it's important. There's not that many other good games, free to play opens it up to everybody. So there's that, you know, it's Overwatch and people have been wanting Overwatch like Overwatch was a great game. Lots of people loved Overwatch. There's almost nostalgia around Overwatch at this point. It's been out so long. Bringing Overwatch back in any form, I think, was going to get attention. So you have sort of this perfect storm in my mind.

"You happy with Overwatch two. You have to be value this year. Everything. And then I saw the update on the greatest office. And this is the discussion I want to have. Because this is one of the most and for those of you who don't know, donkey, you know, video game reviewer. And then I saw this one just dump it calls over to the most before the year. We've been saying for two years have disappointed breakdown with just the way they were doing it. The road map critics free to play versus. You have been critical of the way the game. Pretty much everything about it. Dot com says they gave you enough but then you look at the numbers in 20 5 million people, but it's pretty impressive. The first one was the people who are critical very critical of a walk too. I'm curious. It's not shocking that it would be some sort of responsibility to the games maybe not that fun out that original. But even still, I think if I had told you 6 months ago, like Overwatch Overwatch two, 25 million players in ten days. If you mean your thoughts guys, your answer, I think you would have taken happy with Overwatch two. So I think it's a success now what it does from here does it reinvigorate the Overwatch league, does it lead to a ton of profits for Activision? I think we can debate those things. And that's what I would do as an investor, but overall, if we're talking black or white, definitely a success. At one point to number two, he said what he would do. Basically having said before the game across like twitchy, so we've been saying for two years disappointing in our being, which they have just the way they were doing it, the road map, you know, that it was free to play versus it was launched, but the way the establish everything about it kind of has been setting it up for the flop panels. But then you look at the numbers in 25 million people. It's pretty impressive. Now granted, the first one was the number two with 262,000. So to see a pretty significant point. So it's not shocking that it would but also the first one out of the broadcast launch. But even still, I think if I told you 6 months ago a profit or watch two in their first ten days differences, but I think seeing it as I think you would have taken the audience and just chatting. So I think it's a success now. It does from here, does it reinvigorate the Overwatch league? I just want to dive into a little bit better. That's interesting. One, that's what I would really like to overall, I think I'm right. I think one point to note too just looking at the really big stream of broadcast as in gold on his Twitch account. Overwatch had train wrecks.

"You and I both came out of the military. We both saw had some to say and we just went and did it and we both been successful. Before we talk more about that neighborhood, tell us what your advice is to authors who have a dream of being published. Well, I'm a bit of a realist on this because I first started writing Overwatch. My first book, which came out in 2016 and was a military debuted as a military times top ten and nominated for the best thriller of 2016, but I started writing that book in 2010 and it is a brutal brutal process to get to where I was very fortunate to get to, it took me 18 months to write the book, another year to get an agent and then 14 months before I had my first deal with Simon and Schuster for the Logan west series. But what I tell people is you have to be able to deal with rejection because every step of the process in publishing is designed to make you

You're a second little story here about Overwatch two comes from Matt Kim over at IGN who answers the question, what about my unopened loot boxes? In a Reddit AMM, someone a and M, AMA, someone asked whether loot boxes will carry over an Overwatch too. However, it should be noted that blizzard is doing away with loot boxes completely for the sequel. To give you a quick answer now though, those existing currencies, credits, OWL tokens, and competitive points will come to come with you in Overwatch too, right? Overwatch commercial lead John Spector. Spector added that any unopened loot boxes will be automatically opened and its contents automatically entered into a player's account. The automatic transfer makes sense, given that loot boxes will simply cease to exist in the game. And given that Overwatch two will be free to play, it seems that everyone playing Overwatch one will be automatically transitioned to the sequel with their accounts intact. When Overwatch two is released on October 4th, 2022 as a free to play game, it will ditch the first games loot boxes in favor of a battle pass system. The battle pass will let players unlock cosmetics, which can also be purchased through the in game store. So good news there, Tim. Yeah, totally. I mean, it sounds like they're getting ahead of what was definitely about to be a problem, right? Which is always good. I'm sure there are going to be a thousand unforeseen issues that come up. Diet didn't think about that, but then hopefully they handle it the right way. This seems like the right way to me, I don't know if maybe there's like Overwatch one fans that are like pissed off about this, but I mean, they're committing to switching over. So I think that this seems to be the best kind of foot forward. Real quick, I just want to bring up Charles Jacobson in the chat says, don't worry vicarious visions was set to blizzard to work on Overwatch two maps. And I haven't been on a show to talk about the Tony Hawk three and four situations. Oh yeah, that was Monday stuff, yeah. And I don't want to go too long on it, but just real talk. I have not been as bummed out from video game news, like that doesn't matter, you know, obviously there's a lot of horrible shit going on that matters way more than this. But just in terms of like just being sad about not being able to play a game that would have been fucking awesome, like there was so many hints to three and four were real. There were so many teases and the tweets that the Tony Hawk profile put up and graffiti in the background saying three plus four and things like that. I knew to give up hope a long time ago and as the different companies and Activision different teams started getting gobbled up and moved over and when they legitimately killed vicarious visions like all of that hit me so hard but to have Tony Hawk legitimately say to Andy THP the greatest Tony Hawk player of all time on a stream and be like three and four were real. Like oh man, it sucks. It sucks, 'cause I don't think we're ever gonna see that. I don't think this is one of those situations you'll ever see it. I don't, man. I really don't. I feel like there was a moment in time where you gotta keep that momentum going and one plus two did so well and it made so many people so happy and if they just kept going, it would have just kept going. It would have brought Tony Hawk pro skater back to dominance. We would have got dog eventually. It would have been so good, but yeah, it's Tim. I hope these are two maps away. When Phil Spencer's there taking care of the Activision Blizzard babies, you'll be getting more Tony Hawk, don't you worry about it. Don't you wear your pretty little head. We'll give you a nigga skates about to be. Yeah, I don't know. I think honestly, there's the skate side of things complicates it a lot and I also think just the licensing of Tony Hawk himself and of these old games. There's just, we're getting messy. We're getting to the point of GoldenEye levels of licensed problems of who owns what and whatever and we're going to see it eventually, but will we, I don't know. Anyways, I just want to say I'm really bummed out about this. The Activision team stuff is such a sad, sad side. And I hope that one day we get a Crash Bandicoot 5. We get a spiral for. We got a new Tony Hawk pro skater, whatever it is. We make or not, man. We'll even feel Spencer. Believe in Xbox two. I hope. I hope, man, who want those easy wins? They want you to be super stoked after their next Xbox conference in 20 XX where they come out and they say all that stuff. Don't you worry. Don't see. Again, last thing I'm saying on this, it's like, I think you're right that at some point, maybe we'll get new Tony Hawk again. But I don't want necessarily new Tony Hawk. New Tony Hawk leads us to Tony Hawk ride and Tony Hawk's pro skater 5. The board was full. Of bad things, man. 23 plus four was a guaranteed hit. Because we knew what it was. "Like an actual like true to life sequel, this is more of an update. Because partly because of the Overwatch league, they had to, you know, they needed to do something different because if they kept using the original Overwatch, like the viewers were tanking, it simply just wasn't appealing to watch because at that point, the meta has kind of been set in stone. So now that this new updates out and we have 5 B 5 and we have a new hero to boot,.

"Slash kind of funny games and on podcasts versus around the globe. Thank you to our Patreon producers, Fargo Brady, prank Z and anonymous. Today, brought to you by brother printers, lumen skin and razor, but we'll tell you about that later. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be. The rope report. It's time for some news. We have 5 stories today. Starting with our number one Janet is Overwatch back. I asked the question because I have an article here from Christian Angeles at IGN who writes Overwatch hits peak Twitch viewership after Overwatch two beta opens. The article reads like this. The long in development Overwatch two finally went live with a PVP beta this afternoon in this article is written late yesterday. Soon after launch, the first Overwatch broke, its previous record of total Twitch viewership in mere hours. In honor of the sequel beta, several high profile twist streamers such as lyric, myth, and most notably xQc, streamed the first Overwatch. The game peaked at around 450,000 views today and xQc's amassed over a 150,000 views over Overwatch on his own. Overwatch fans have been dying to see if they were selected for the Overwatch two PVP beta. The only way of accessing a beta key is to watch partner streamers for a certain length of time while having their blizzard battle net account leaped on Twitch. Lucky users can pick up a PC beta code only until May 17th. In a tweet from Nathan Grayson of The Washington Post, sources have stated that Overwatch has suffered from Activision blizzards, aggressive demands for both a sequel and an eSports league. The company's well reported workplace lawsuits haven't helped either. And there have been several high profile exits from the company in the past several years. With over 50 million units sold in the original Overwatch, there is a whole lot riding on blizzard for developing a worthy sequel. For years, fans Overwatch had been seeing issues from delayed he releases to seeing Jeff Kaplan Overwatch's original game director, leave the company entirely exactly one year ago. Janet, two questions. One, what is your history of the Overwatch? Have you played Overwatch? Do you like Overwatch? And then two, what is your view on what's happening with Overwatch? What are your thoughts on the peak concurrent Twitch viewers? Do you think it's a renaissance? My history with Overwatch is a little bit sparse, but it was like, I guess a flash of the pan was kind of like my history with Overwatch because it came out and it was all anyone could talk about when it dropped. Like it. I kind of wasn't paying attention to what was going on, leading up to the release of Overwatch, but then once it dropped, everyone knew it was playing it. And this is also when I first really decided I wanted to write about games and be in the games media space. It was kind of in that it was either right when I decided or like right before I had decided. So I was already like dabbling and doing some writing and I was already talking like really regularly with a team of writers who did blogging and all that stuff that I worked alongside of. So I was like, okay, cool. All y'all are talking about this. I want at least know what's going on. I feel like that was in a weird way. I think Overwatch was like, one of the first games that I played just to know a little bit about it. And since then, of course, I've done that a bunch. That's one of the big proponents of what I do and how I go about covering content. And I liked it fine, admittedly, it's interesting because I think it's one of the more approachable games in its genre, but at the same time, I feel like I did have the struggle of understanding really basic stuff just because I don't play those kind of games at all. So it was fine for me for what it was because I'm not as used to that kind of thing. So it didn't blow my mind. It wasn't something that I stick around to, but that's because I don't really play that kind of genre in general. And then the year considered on, and I feel like it was the biggest conversation point. And I think it was for a lot of outlets like game of the year that year. So yeah, that's kind of my quick history with Overwatch. As far as what do I think is happening now, I think it's just going to depend on how Overwatch two ultimately hits. But I think as long as it's still around that same quality or somewhat competitive with it and adding new elements, I don't want to say guaranteed to be successful, but I feel like it's set up pretty strongly because I think about something like the ongoing games that I play or like the games that have similar loop when you go into a franchise. So like for me like it's platoon where it's like splatoon three is coming out. I'm excited even though it's more the same. I feel like Overwatch two is probably going to be generally more of the same, but a little bit different, but if it's still like hits that it's going to hit with that audience and that audience is way more massive than something like splatoon, which is a little bit more. It's like it doesn't have that kind of virality to it. And of course we can argue about quality as well. But I think if it just hits, it's going to hit because it's the same kind of product. And the base formula is a strong one. As far as like, is there going to be, does this mean there's going to be a renaissance for it? I mean, I think they set it up well and they did a smart thing of with the beta key drops being attached to the views. That's an easy way to really incentivize so many elements of both streaming because then you get people to watch you to get the keys. And it's like this really good loop that they've created for themselves. Which is smart when you want one excitement and two people getting into the beta and kind of getting to test out what is the straight network wise. I don't know how much feedback or changes they're going to make in terms of gameplay itself based on the beta. But it's just a smart move on their part to also create the conversation that we're having now, right? Like we're talking about this because they were able to bolster and create that,.

"Even though it's one tank, we don't necessarily know what tanks are going to be viable what thanks to going to be the strongest coming in towards two. And having fearless in hand and both roll stars, MVP candidates of their own right, it's something that's we're very happy about having them both back for next season. This gives us probably one of the strongest tank lands still. We're able to play everything. We want to play. So nothing there is changing. And the big thing for us was adding more flexibility to our DPS light because we know that we have a feeling that DPS is definitely going to be very important. Even though it's always important, I just think with the added space maybe of only one tank that maybe created DPS may be a bit more prevalent. And it's good to have just a bunch of adaptability flexibility. I think that's a big thing is flexibility for next year because it's going to be even more important for players to be able to pick up new heroes and then be able to learn new maps. And that's something that rascal hopefully will bring as well to the table. He's been known for some of the picks up here. It was very fast when he played, and hopefully he'll be able to help our GPS players even more master their craft. So yeah, there hasn't been major changes I would say to our overall idea. It's still going to be Overwatch. It's still going to be similar structure. It's just you're having one less player on there, but at the same time, you want to have all your bases covered. For sure. I mean, to your point about the DPS becoming a little bit more important when one less tank. I see the moves you're making the off season obviously are to kind of help address that flexibility like you mentioned. And so you guys look well prepared heading into the 2022 Overwatch league season..

"To sort of be more transparent in a way for the fans who are like, yo, where's this game at? It debuted two years ago as of yesterday blessing. It debuted two years ago as of yesterday. That's when we first saw the reveal for Overwatch two. And this game continues to sort of be in a messy state of is what's the development looking like? Are they working on things? I worry so much. Because at this point, we've seen quite a bit of this game. Like me and you, we've done multiple reaction streams to them breaking down what a lot of the changes are looking like in terms of the intricate character changes, how they're adding in more destructible stuff for the enemy and PCs when you're shooting them down. The vision for what the single player is stuff is going to be or the campaign stuff I just say is going to be like we've seen we've seen new maps. We've seen tons of shit for Overwatch to you. And Overwatch one came out in 2016, if I remember correctly. It's been a while. And I think the big thing that is making me go, what the fuck is happening is the fact that Overwatch one is pretty much pretty much done with the updates for that game. You're not really good. You're not going to get new characters. You're not going to get new maps. That game is pretty much has pretty much sunset in terms of new updates. And the idea there is, oh, cool, your sunsetting as we approach the release of Overwatch too. And at the beginning of this year, we did our whole fantasy drafting for games cast. I was predicting. I was like, for sure, we're going to get Overwatch too this year, right? And now that we're at the end of this year, I was like, for sure, we're going to get Overwatch to you next year, right? The idea that they're coming out and saying, hey, we're delaying this game. Makes me think, oh, are we not getting this game until 2023? And at that point, what is the vision for this game? Is this game still going to be the iterative? Hey, this is Overwatch one and a half. And you're still going to have cross play with Overwatch one, and this is going to be all that. And if that's the case, then where are we at in terms of just the stopping point that we are at with Overwatch one? I feel like it's so weird to be at this point where we're just not getting more Overwatch content. I don't think that is good for Overwatch as a game and a franchise that has a hard stop like this when that is a game that has such a huge fan base and a game that I think leans a lot on being active and continually giving players content to feel involved in all these things. The album four as well as one that I know a lot of people are looking forward to. And again, both of these games getting delayed at the same time strikes me a lot like about I guess it was a year or two years ago when ubisoft looked at their slate of games leading up to I think it was like a mortals and a bunch of other games and they were like, hey, let's delay everything. Because nothing's sticking right now. We got to take a step back and look at everything and look at how our we need to look at our release late and what our process is as UE soft to figure out how to make better games. So they delayed everything. This tracks me a little bit as that of Activision Blizzard, looking around and going, all right, let's take a let's take a pause. Let's take a breather. Let's look at what works and what doesn't work. And I think that is both in what works for the games and also what works and what doesn't work in our culture because we are under a spotlight right now. And we do not have the space to fuck up, and we probably need the space to help remedy a lot of these things. That's the vibes I'm getting from this. I wonder if at any point, we've seen them absorb a lot of smaller studios and have them become support studios. I wonder if they are rethinking putting more assets and putting more time into Overwatch one and just kind of having something there for the dedicated fan base that continues to still play it because at this point, I think it makes sense to say, hey, we are completely stopping working on Overwatch one. We are full we are heads down on Overwatch two, and we can't wait to bring you new updates whenever that game comes closer to its release date. And I think if you're pushing Overwatch two out further possibly this opens up some room, blessing to say, hey, since Overwatch shoes coming out later, here's a new map. I don't even know what they would introduce at this point. They're not going to introduce a new character at this point. But just something that isn't, you know, because every once in a while, they will release new deathmatch maps. Nobody really cares about deathmatch. People want to play on a new payload map or knew whatever map. Is there a way to sort of appease the fans that are still playing in a hardcore way that no oh shit. I thought I was gonna have to wait 8 months, ten months or Overwatch two, maybe it's gonna be closer to two years for Overwatch too. When we watch those streams, it felt like that game was around the corner. That is the thing that blows my mind is that they've made so much headway in terms of what the new structure of it is going to be la 5 E 5 as opposed to the 66. What they're doing for tanks, what they're doing for the actual meta of Overwatch. It felt very late in development. And so, yeah, I'm curious to know, I'm curious to see if this means big changes for Overwatch to you or if it just means, hey, we're just sitting on it for now while we wait and let it just stay a little bit and we want to make sure that this is the game that we wanted to be before we put it out to the world because when you put out a game called Overwatch two, that has big expectations behind it. Overwatch one is one of the biggest multiplayer games of the last generation. And when you put out a game called Overwatch two, I think you want to have a comparable sizable splash, right? You want that to hit. You want people to look at that and go, oh shit, it's here, everybody playing at the same time. You don't want it to feel like an Overwatch 1.1 update. And so I wonder if this is them looking at that and going cool, how do we make this the biggest thing possible? Or who knows? Maybe Jeff Overwatch. What's his last name? Jeff Kaplan. Jeff Kaplan. Yeah, maybe Jeff Kaplan leaving leaves them going cool. What do we do now that he's gone? What is the vision of this thing?.

Lastly, some updates in the blast premiere fall groups as a group C began today with some entertaining matches Navi and OG go head to head going all three games before na'vi pulls the rug out from under OG. "Call of duty league and the overwatch league recently announced. They are loosening restrictions on the types of sponsorship deals. That franchises can make with outside companies. This means that both leagues will allow individual teams to obtain obtain sponsorship deals from previously excluded sectors such as gambling and liquor businesses. We continue to see signs of desperation from activision blizzard's franchised leagues. They had previously towed a very lofty family friendly line now that the leagues are struggling to generate revenue grow or attract an audience. It makes sense that previous ideals would be sacrificed for profit. It's unlikely that either league will lose much in the way of viewership as a consequence of this change and it should open up new revenue opportunities. But it's still stinks of

"The start of the OverWatch League season this year, got to bring on Matt tazmo. Taylor GM General Manager for the Dallas fuel from Envy game, how you doing that as well. Hey, I'm doing great. How about yourself? I'm good, man. It's it's been a been a lot of stuff on your plate as of what this past few months, right? Yeah, definitely. It's been a very busy offseason as with every offseason, but this one specifically was a very long one, and a good one versus one, of course, of course. So times when you've been the Dallas fuels general manager since their inaugural season, all the way back in what county 2018 - 2017 is. Yeah, I mean basically as soon as the bell before the horse League I was still managing the Envy of watched T. I became the Dallas fuel season so page everything OverWatch have been from the start come and become Dallas Fuel and then being with Envy for four and a half years or something like that now so yeah. Awesome. So let's let's address the elephant in the room. Everybody wants to wants to know about and you being the the GM kind of it felt to you and and your team over there. What exactly the overhaul you revamp? The team from top to bottom dead. What led to the choice to go with this current I guess all all Korean right all Korean roster. Yep. Yeah. So basically you know, at the end of last season pass, you know, we obviously weren't happy with where we were, you know, always striving to be a very competitive team in any League. We're in an eight-game we're in and that just wasn't really the case with the roster, I know like the the team, there's a give it their all and really tried to to produce the results, but it just didn't happen. And we realized that this was the time where we could really kind of revamp and and change up a roster and dead. Since then we basically had the opportunity for the first thing and the First Foundation was to look at a new head coach and a new culture stuff in general. And after talking to Young, Who I was a nice rest with near the end of the season, obviously taken up that had cultural, he'd obviously had a lot of respect for a rush who was formerly purse turtle. And then went to say you was also former element Mystic who was incredibly successful contenders roster and Canada started from there.

He was just leaving blizzard in general he was the vpn blizzard over there and he'd been there for about twenty years. In general he was the face of overwatch. people knew him. Papa jeff as a lot of the community would lovely call him and also jeff come on fix this stuff. Come on come on now come on. That's what i would actually be like now with overwatch to coming out eventually. Probably not until two thousand twenty two. And i would probably say late. Twenty two probably like holiday season twenty twenty two and with him. The driving force of overwatch released their own original team of overwatch. Leaving leaving aaron which is another one of the veteran devs to be the game director. It looks like this is not a very good thing. How he left was will little weird because it was all of a sudden he was basically. I'm leaving bye and we're like what are you talking about your leaving. Why why are you leaving like. Is there a problem here. Because it doesn't look very good when someone leaves like that it doesn't when someone leaves abruptly. There is always a problem with said company. Now have not liked activision. Blizzard mostly activision more than blizzard. Since there are one of the same company is been slowing going towards more blizzard. Becoming activision in general. So it's weird that this happened. Because he's one of the veteran devs made blur what it is today which is basically a company that makes really great games. Takes time doesn't rush. Things doesn't make yearly call games. Activision does just takes time and make sure that it's all going well unfortunately with activision influence. It's seems to be slowly going towards that route of just trying to mind gamer money for basically more prophets and also getting rid people once you have record profits which is very weird and you should probably look at the optics on that ceo of activision blizzard. "What a sad day in Esports, once again after being able to celebrate the women in Esports on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday have been a stark reminder of how far we still need to be go. First off before I get into this episode a trigger warning. This minute is going to contain details that include sexual abuse gaslighting harassment and rape on my dreams and the Esports minute from a sports network. So you've seen the allegation by now. I can imagine J one better known as Sinatra has been accused of sexual abuse with plenty of proof by Cleo his ex-girlfriend Thora is the former MVP of the OverWatch league has been playing ballarin for the central since retiring from the uw-l. The allegations are long and I'll link down below they are difficult to read but it is extremely important to do so in the Google Doc Cleo details how Sinatra coerced her into sex made her feel guilty for not wanting to have sex and progress past the point where she was saying no to confirm You having sex with her that's rape. We should call it what it is. There's audio of them having sex where you can hear that situation play out. Clearly. The write-up is nine pages long including screenshots of many different conversations. I want to read a section at the end that I think is especially important quote if this isn't proof enough, I'm not sure anything will ever be to get you to understand the hurt those done to me by this man. It's not his word against mine. It's his word against multiple points of proof and an audio of his voice not allowing me to say no to having sex and quote. She's right and while many people have spoken out about how horrible this is other voices have chosen once again to ignore a victim. The fron is one of the high-profile ones eating out quote e girls can be scary as a twitch streamer. They will try to debate or photoshop evidence to fuck you. I'm not saying she is one, but she could be and quote I really Dubose. Giving his horrible message a platform but I think it's important as it reconfirms what Cleo said at the end of her message. She knew some people wouldn't believe her even with the evidence. I hope a community we see these types of people for who they are and shut them off as this won't be the last time this happens victims shouldn't need nine-page Google Docs detailing their trauma complete with audio recordings and screenshots of multiple conversations for people to believe them. And when that happens that people's first reaction is somehow to blame Photoshop just shows how damning it is and how far people will go to not believe someone in this

"In Eastport during a pandemic is difficult thing to do Valor has done a pretty good job getting up and running without business as usual to rely on but today where I walk ins and outs of these Sports first land over a year since the game came out in beta in late May for VCT stage two masters. The top teams will be traveling directly vik Iceland to compete with that's still a long ways away, but it's really cool that we can actually have lands booked into the schedule again, even if fans still won't be able to attend this event the only major land to go down during the pandemic was Riot games pulling off League of Legends World in a bubble like environment at the height of the outbreak as cases shoot back down to earth and more people are vaccinated events are slowly going to pick back up cautiously optimistic is how I said, At this rate, it seems like fans will be in stands by early summer at least At A reduced capacity for I'd games they put all their chips in on Iceland this year. In addition to the stage two masters Iceland be the host of MSI running from early May up until a few days before VCT. I mean if you're going to hold multiple events in one country during a pandemic Iceland probably makes a pretty good choice. The back-to-back of MSI and then the stage two masters is kind of reminiscent of the old Festival like feeling of ESL and dreamhack events and honestly should be a ton of fun. It's a Fortune, of course, the fans won't be able to attend and receive that long but for the players will have a great time for people who aren't totally up-to-date on Valor and Esports. I'm getting a little ahead of myself here considering the first stage one Masters event still hasn't even happened that event is taking up in mid-march and it's also really noteworthy as it's going to show the first time since first strike that the overall appetite for top Valerie T sports events. I'm really curious what the viewership is going to be like on that one because it'll really highlight the fan favorite teams and how much will foothold Valerie has been able to take on and its first year certainly isn't make or break. It's the very first year of the Eastport but comparing that viewership to see us go off OverWatch and Call of Duty viewership benchmarks should make for an interesting thought experiment once it happens.

Thank God still the owner of the wall is putting forth a hybrid format that can be played online or in physical locations first off instead of a regular season format like traditional Sports b o w l will be following the CDL into a more tournament based regular-season structure. The structure will feature three weeks of qualifiers, then a mid-season tournament repeated 4 times. So to make that more clear the weekends of April 16th, April 23rd, and April 29th will be the first qualifiers then the first name Tournament will be the main melee on May 7th that schedule repeats through May June July and August. Each tournament has kind of a silly name may may lay is fine. Even if it's a little bit hard to say. Some people might assume to Smash Bros event. There's also the summer Showdown and the countdown cup which are both solid alliterations will give you that but they really Force the alliteration with the June just like white jesting. I don't think it makes sense names aside. This format will likely be easier to follow for fans on YouTube you sports events do well when they crowned some sort of champion at the end of it. Only League of Legends has really been successful creating a regular season format in Esports the c d l o w l and even our LCS have all abandoned their attempts to do so in the last one or two years this year will also see three Western o w l teams competed in Asia the Valiant fusion and New York Excelsior are all moving operations to Asia for this year that brings the divisions to 8 Eastern teams and 12 Western ones. Mid-season tournament will feature both East and West teams, they will start online but will actually compete in Hawaii once they're able to resume safely talk to UAB. I do renounce any critiques of the o w l if you invite me to a mid-season tournament in Hawaii, but I reserve the right to make fun of the name June just I'm just putting that out there right now. And the last thing to talk about with the new schedule is the price full up. Once again this year crossing the song million dollar Mark over all events Grand Champions will get a share of one point five million. But with the o w l the price still feels kind of weird, right like every team paid at least twenty million dollars in often month to even compete in this league at all. Sure splitting for a million is nice but teamed invested a whole lot more to even be in the league having a chance to win a mill back feels different from prizes and leagues that don't cost money millions of dollars to enter But ultimately the o w l can still be successful. Even if it's been pretty Doom and Gloom for a while now, they just have to keep growing in China last year a be reported in ama of birth. 1 million viewers for the playoffs the majority of which are in China. It's basically the Golden Goose for Esports if alley can remain popular in China, they could continue to exist on that alone and it'll be a crucial years so w l that's for

"Which gives you your campaign and your monthly player and things like that And in like a cold war came out and they did the same thing. So that's kind of let the speculation is that it's going to look like you're going to buy overwatch to an essentially core over watched as we've known it is going to be that free to play element but if you wanna do the campaigns and there's like a rpg kind of cooperative mode That's going to be along with it you know. I don't know what that looks like because we really haven't been given a ton of information But that that's how they speculated it's gonna look yeah and to say that blizzard doesn't do the free to play model Your there's no. I'm not saying free play. But they is. Yeah but the and also the new diablo that's going to be on mobile is more than likely going to be free to play either doubt that they would charge. Yeah because they're not going to charge for that game. When there's that much uproar when they announced it being on mobile and everybody was like freaking out about that. You guys have phones right. I don't think that's why it's going to be free. I think it was always going to be free. S diablo. four is going to be free. I don't believe they're gonna fall won't but but if you but here's the argument for that how can you. How can you not make diablo. Four free when all of the other games of the genre or almost all now exclusively free to play the best one are free to play. How many are outside of tax exile. But that's all there is boys on you. Grim don being premium. I just a path of grim. Don how you can do it. Your game is called the oslo four. That's how they're going to be able to do it and they'll be just fine. Don't know i see the thing about the diablo series. Two is mainly single player series. They didn't add the multi-player 'til later episodes right like the. I think the album three diabe was okay. But it.

Because scott's opening us up on an off week oh it's elliot No i thing he's opening which means he's he's entity that's right arrow feel good. That'd be added. Streets really have to edit well always. I'll be editing. Podcast his carter to wrong word. Would it be yeah. I think it's very well. You got something to say. Say it no. I met on our episodes. Oh i had at those listen. You don't know. All the homes in the homes in the clicks in the classics. They get edited. Oh he just complained to me privately before he got in about the homes in the ause from unknown source. I'm not calling anyone out home. They do mar no mic. Said that he was when we recorded our episode. Going to put a bunch of ums in there. Just for you now doesn't need to worry about that. he enough by itself. He has a breathing issue. I think oh well. Where sound like the gilmore girls because there's no pauses between when we talk what i had my there that a episode proper. So we're not doing a game this week We didn't wanna talk about the rumor. That blizzard is going to be making over. Watch a free to play game. As well. As the fact that we soft has stated publicly that they're going to be working on free to play games as well as their aaa titles So i'm gonna starting because the overwatch one is something very near and dear to my heart as anyone who's listening to podcasts. Knows is one of my favorite games ever made and so really. There's been rumors bounce around about it. Going free to play for a while really since they announced overwatch to And so if you don't know overwatch to is going to be kind of this like simi sequel where overwatch one if you own it. It's essentially just going to get upgraded to watch to From a multi player standpoint. But all of this news single player and cooperative content. You won't be able to play unless you purchase overwatch to and so people just kinda speculated well if you make over watch one free.

Where Esports is Going with Nick D'Orazio, Inven Global's Director of Corporate Strategy

"So that's a really what type of content I'm trying to push in the future for Esports. I want it to be more of that and less of the same. I love that. I love that Esports is dead. So unique and and you bring up Sports and how Sports is takes on a level of everything that goes around. It is very interested and that's going to be very obvious this weekend with the Superbowl happens in American football a hundred million. People are going to watch that maybe ten million really care about football twenty and the rest are watching for commercials. They're they're watching to eat snack also day. They're watching for the halftime show. Whatever that looks like. That's where Sports exists and it's also where e Sports is definitely going and with more focus on the dispatch. Tags that come around with culture the see the awesome sneakers that are that are made that come out with like like OverWatch characters or overwatch's eyes or e-sports designs. Even that's the kind of stuff. That is so cool to me and I think we're good to see if we are seeing more and more of it and Esports and places like invent culture have really done a great job of highlighting it. Well. Yeah, and you know, it's off the expression of these fandoms, right? It's it's more than just like individual a posturing right like yes in my home right now as I look around I'm surrounded by video game art and video game fan aren't and all my favorite games, right? There's one aspect of it is that I like to be I'm around the things that I enjoy in the art that I like, but the other act and y m e Sports and gaming is certainly headed towards being expressed through the culture of fashion the culture of Art and music and I do think eventually Decor. We're already seeing that with God B&R slash Battle Stations and the aesthetic gaming a movements right? You you see that there is how do you put this? There's an underlying set of core. Hm. This is how I can experience this esport, right? This is how I can experience this game. And if I meet someone who has that shared. Oh, I also like to experience this game in this way. I also like to experience this fandom in this way that builds friendship that builds me like a meaningful. I'm communities and then these communities are the people that go towards your conventions that go to your tournaments, right? It's the same way in which every good football a culture shock and your your city usually has a bar like associated with it or like an after-game bars or like big, you know, a downtown hubs. It's because it's more than just the game and Esports is constantly, you know, keep talking a little bit before we hit on record e Sports is always worried about its Revenue stream, right? Where are we going to get this revenue from and you know, the answer is simple get more people interested in this page. Parts and find more ways to maximize the Esports a user experience. We've already learned from Starbucks that people will be fine with paying $4 more for coffee because it feels like an experience and it feels worth it. And it's nice thing people will be fine paying more for Esports. If we find out how to make it a premium experience how to make it something that lets them experience more things than just, you know, like to throw shade the same talking head style analyst people hurriedly a commenting over, you know, like any sports match and that being it that's the height of how long an experience your love for this game and and the players and this goes for you know, any major use for it. I think at all Rings true. I definitely agree and it was actually something that I don't know if he would have seen this played out in the way. I was hoping to with the Activision Blizzard franchise leagues and the way they went from City to City and now that really never took off because of covid-19. Both leagues have their own. Set core issues. But what I was really excited for was to see how all these different teams and all these different cities started running events and and the different things that popped up around those events. Like you mentioned the the bar that people Gather in. What is the lasting impact of being able to go City to city and start really putting roots of fandom down that was something I was really excited to see we never really got to see it. Well, I'll tell you this now the OverWatch League was a fairly it was an eye-opening experience for me. I thought it was like a crystal ball being a journalist and covering that it allowed me to see into the future of Esports cuz I covered every day of season one. I was there in person at the house at the arena didn't miss imagine. I interviewed so many of the players the fans. I was just there most importantly I was there and what I learned, is that the atmosphere Is very fun when you're waiting in line. It's very fun. When you're shuffling in and you're in the gift store and it's fun when you sit down and the and the team's walk in but after that it becomes like a strictly worse twitch viewing experience for then if you were just your house and you know, it's like I've seen this by faith. Like I I know this this isn't an opinion. This is a fact and it was exhausting showing up there. Even for the super fans and I saw them dwindle slowly and slowly but to your point about the Resurgence were made it all worth it is when the local gamer bar or a college, you know or student union or whatever realized. Hey, let's do an afterlife event thing or let's do a pre-event thing or let's start having these team homesteads, right? Like the problem is because they were ran by small teams. And you know who didn't really there was a lot of concerns about Thursday. Safety and things like that cuz you know, it's a blizzard. They are a big Corporation and they need to have it really spic and span cuz it's like a game for teens and all that. They were way to a closed-off right if more people knew that these Regional fan meet ups and things were happening more people would come but they didn't quite know how to Market it. So, you know, I will say that I am agree covid-19 put a stop on a lot of that right? It's hard to even continue with that but I'll also say that, you know, it's too little too late when it comes to something like the over in the mass of investment. That was you know, it's sad when you think about how many millions of dollars they put into that Arena and the teams and each of those orgs and all those invest, you know, paying what twenty million dollars per lead spot but like players salaries all of that. It's sad to think that at the end of the day the thing that had the most in in my opinion potential and scale and was dead. Most Community good was what resembled grassroot Esports what resembled if they had never done the league at all. And if they just made OverWatch a very friendly, you know public API game in which people would love to build a custom a tailor-made esport that the community accepts but we didn't get that. We instead we got a league and it you know, it didn't

Vicarious Visions reportedly working on a Diablo 2 remake at Blizzard

"For me. The story of the week is vicarious visions rolled in spink succumb to the blizzard. Avalanche of the blizzard ebay. They need to plow basically. They need good that name again. It's fist blow to dig them out Most recently they made tony hawk one and two which i rave about last year absolutely phenomenal Release of those games. Did the crash release as well and i just outstanding studio. In my opinion. I think track record of just hits in working on some great games in now Based on the press release that came out it appears as if they are going to be a support studio for the larger blizzard instead of like. Hey go make a new ip or go work on this franchisor or elite on this they. It seems like we'll be one of the many studios you see as you're waiting to get to the title screen of a gay or when the credits are rolling. You're like how many people worked on this in support of i blizzard game. So i guess diablo's or unannounced Helping ship overwatch to maybe. But it's kind of a bummer. I think that team seem super talented. And it this seems kind of unceremonious to me. Well the rumor is that vicarious visions has been working on a diablo to re master for quite a while and that blizzard was so dissatisfied with the warcraft. Three re master which received a lot of hype and was Was a disappointment. i think. I think there's only one way to describe it. It was a disappointment to fans. It was a disappointment to the studio when it released it. Had a bunch of problems and I think they the rumor is that they wanted to date. Being blizzard. wanted to avoid a repeat of that kind of scenario and we're using vicarious visions to work on the diablo two remastered which is unannounced. Chat is saying remake is what they're polite yes. Pardon me remake. These terms should be precise and i. It's my mistake for nelson. Hasn't been out so we don't really know i mean with warcraft. Three was a master. S diablo to remake would be pretty exciting but yes supposedly that was handed over to the four-team and then than they brought in vicarious visions to offload that work as work on the before ramped up and They're they're calling it. Diablo two resurrected all again all of this rumor. But if that's the case super excited obviously victorious visions. Very good at these kinds of remakes. These kinds of taking old games and making them look gorgeous on modern technology so as a huge fan of the oslo to very excited about that prospect. Be i get what you're saying christian about it. Being a bit of a bummer. To to hear that they will no longer be the lead developer on any kind of game creation. Rob you Inside a developer. All the time what. What is your your take on. This is the kind of thing that would be disheartening to a group to to visions themselves or do they see it as potentially an opportunity to probably a little bit of both The thing that bums me out. The most is sort of losing vicarious visions v as it's colloquially known in the games industry as as a brand like air studio that has a very long history. They've been around for a very long time. One of the few coast studios in albany new york which is rare So them to sort of lose their identity and just become you know a blizzard new yorker or whatever blizzard east Is just a bummer. Just from just from a name standpoint It does. I mean they do good work though so i think ultimately for the security of the people working the studio is probably a good thing it ensures longevity that those people will have jobs and projects at work on whether or not. It's the projects that those folks were hoping to work on if they were developing internally typically studios are always trying to develop things internally especially smaller studios sports support studios. They wanna like make their own. Ap eventually that's probably the goal of every studio. Imagine sure and so losing that for now. is probably. There's probably some stink to it. But i would also say like if they continue to prove themselves doing this. There's no reason why. I wouldn't think that they might be handed. Something in the future that may be as a blizzard. Ip and maybe they make a new game with one of those ip's

Where in the World is the Overwatch League Headed in 2021?

"Opportunities across digital media podcasting and video programs. Please reach out to e-sports and Eric Segal marked in using the email off of the show. Hey, the sooner we're going to sponsor the sooner. I want to lead every single episode with that read. So hit up Mark, please today. We're talking the OverWatch the end of all these Sports o w l had the hardest thing twenty already entering the year of plenty of questions. The year saw reigning MVP Sinatra jumped to Valour in the Vancouver Titans, the defending runner-ups dropped their entire roster do to covet and owners to report may ask for bargains on their massive by ends. Yeah. It wasn't good 20 21 might be better but the League's questions surrounding it only got larger this week blizzard announced the 2021 Ram. Schedule even though the Call of Duty League the o w l sister league in many rights is starting in mid-February the o w l won't kick off until April in that time three Western teams the New York Excelsior the Philadelphia Fusion and the LA Valiant all announced they'll be moving operations to Asia for the season due to covet thy that brings the division of to a split of 12 teams in the west and 8 in the East and speaking of the LA Valiant report from Aaron Halo speak in o w l Insider find that the LA Valiant have actually been sold to a company or owner in China. His report said that that new owner was a fully Chinese roster leading team will release of the entire team and coaching staff. The LA Valiant have denied that report for now. We don't know the truth, but Halo is broken plenty of stories in the past. Even if he shoots from the hip a little bit when it comes to some reports in many cases the massive binds that owners paid to get in the league are forcing them to cut costs on player salaries that's creating a really weird ecosystem or contracts are going down as Activision Blizzard game. Of an insane amount of cash the Paris a turtle are one such example as an expansion team Following season 1 the estimated price of the spot. They bought was absolutely more than twenty million volts SPN estimating that those parts are going between Thirty and sixty million each with Paris being a main International Hub. There's was probably on the upper end of that estimate range if ESPN's correct there back in November, the org released its entire roster. It's not like the Eternal were bad or anything last season. They finished first in the North Division and fourth overall. They did have a poor showing in the play-offs but this is clearly a cost-cutting measure from the management team in Paris quite similar to what happened with the Vancouver Titans during the season. So where does the league go from here the viewership breakdown points in a clear direction to me. The 2020 season had pretty bad viewership Esports chart said the average was about 46,000 viewers a decline of 60% from last season now part of that might be the move from twitch over. YouTube but still a 60% decline doesn't just happen out of nowhere The crucial thing about e-sports towards data though is that it doesn't include Chinese you worship and that's where things get a little bit interesting facts into the Nielsen am a data which does implement Chinese viewership d o w l finals the only event we have am a data for was watched by 1.55 million people. That's a 38% increase over the 2019 finals. So hey, that sounds like pretty good news. It's not League of Legends numbers, but it's still pretty good. If you can bind that little bit of knowledge with the three Western teams competing out of Asia and the one already reportedly having been sold to a Chinese owner and we see a potential exit strategy emerging or owners unhappy with their o w l investment prior to the season. The breakdown was fifteen Western teams and 5 Eastern teams that becomes 6 if the Valiant sale holds and then there are already those two are or there's already competing over there for twenty Twenty-One. Although neither am boxer Comcast have indicated. They have any plan to sell their mostly just moving over to Asia because it's a little bit easier. Logistically, I believe but going on as more owners are unhappy and more Chinese owners are actually willing to pay for these teams. I think we could see those scales tipped towards an equal split between divisions. If not favoring China eventually. There's certainly no shortage of cash for Esports in China these days. If you look at the type of Investments, they're

Games to look out for in 2021

"What do you think's gonna be your game of the year. What do you think is going to be a big game. That people should look out for all that stuff. It's january six blessing. We really gonna talk about gave you the year already be our early. I mean. I don't know what i mean. You know we already know what some of the major major titles coming out to be right breath of the wild to go to war to halo infinite. We know what the big ones are going to bay. But you know i think what. Twenty twenty tortoise is increasingly The game of the year com can come from left. Field at fog is my personal game in the eighties. Who saw that coming right. That was a that was the it her. A lot of people. Haiti's was a big hit. Would you would you. Would you have predicted that jenny. Six last year. I don't think so. So who the hell knows predictions and trying to make these predictions is a mugs. Game blessing. Stay out of it. Yeah i. I'm really excited for this year. Because i feel like you. Usually at the beginning of previous years we could we. Could i see the future riley. We could easily be like okay. Twenty eight twenty game of the year is probably gonna be between last part two and sarah punk and like of course like we didn't see hades coming and so that stuff does an exciting rental inch into it. Twenty twenty one. I think you can easily be like okay. Got four ragnarok. But i think most of us think that game that game's gonna get laid right. It's like who knows then you have breath awhile while we're still didn't still doesn't technically have release date and so that's another one of we'll see overwatch to is in there too which i expect will be twenty twenty one but again who knows This year is such a mystery for quite a few big games within quite a few games that we've just been anticipating for a while and so. That's that's exciting from that standpoint. Also in terms of games like like you said games that we don't necessarily see coming. There are few indie games. That i'm excited for that. I don't know. I can't predict on a haiti's level or like a fog has level because who knows But there are some indie games. That i think could have the chance to be a a big thing or be exciting. Or maybe reese that game of the year level Twelve minutes a game. That i know a lot of people are looking forward to internet excited for. And that's one that i'm excited for Cava trailer here for a game called she dreams elsewhere which i think i've talked about on shelves before you wanna play the trailer you don't have to play with us playedas and blocking But that's another game that i'm personally excited for. It's a game that is stylized a bit like in under tail or an earthbound. Is that type of game And i've seen at passes before. And i'm very excited about it very much looking forward to it there. Stray which is like kind of a low-key game was at that place. It was at that playstation presentation that they didn't june and i know a lot of people were excited about that and it's like game that people are looking forward to

The Most Important Esports Business Deals in 2020

"Look at the biggest Esports business deals from a tumultuous year. I'm a dreams and this is the Esports minute from E Sports Network. We're going to start with the business world today and move to the biggest stories over off tomorrow. Our top three biggest Esports business stories begin with BMW under the banner United and rivalry, which is transcended ties to the BMW brand the luxury carmaker partnered with five major Choice dogs all with top-tier League of Legends teams fun Plus Phoenix, then the defending world champions represented China Faker and T1 represented Korea Cloud, 9 wrapped n a and both G2 and thought it represented EU across-the-board top-tier teams with huge fan bases at the time Christopher Koenig a spokesperson for BMW said to me for an adweek article quote. We are professionals when it comes to marketing to our sales funnel and our traditional marketing group, but when it comes to younger Target group Generation Y Millennials, we only have partial answers on how to reach them. Then there's the even more important the future table. Group of Generation Z we have almost no answers on how to reach them. He sports for us is a channel to reach this group and quote and I think that really sums up the value of Esports four Brands thought you switch will continue to become a central part of smart Brands marketing strategies going forward. Number two in our list YouTube gaming acquires the broadcast rights for the OverWatch and Call of Duty leagues in a year that was marked by competition between streaming Giants and we'll talk about mixer tomorrow. Trust me YouTube's acquisition of two major Esports properties was a key moment in the sights growth into live viewing now thanks to the pandemic neither pows or CDL were able to Showcase their true potential but YouTube's investment in coming for Twitches Esports market share was a huge moment and finally the most controversial brand deal of the year the LEC and blasphemy are partnering with a futuristic city planned by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has a poor record on human rights issues, especially for any member of the lgbtq family considering the LEC is closely tied to that Community Thursday. Casting Squad and audience the resulting controversy for strike games to pull out of the deal while it was happening blastomere avoid a lot of the public-facing controversy despite also partner with me on at the same time still page pulled out of the deal a few weeks after right games pulled out in all it was a crucial moment when moral choices of the audience and cast members came in direct conflict with what had to be an absolute boatload of

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) Civil War

"For those who might not have looked at twitter in the last forty eight hours. This all started when mouse sports and astrology decided to boycott their match for a handful of hours over the weekend or not even over the weekend. Was it tuesday. Tuesday tuesday yesterday. Was that just yesterday was yesterday. Oh my oh my the the. I've never seen drama escalate this much. So then they decided to boycott and somehow within twenty four hours every dirt that everyone's been holding on to the players association is all of a sudden coming to light like so to set the stage. The players association boycotted sir. Scoots is an adviser for the players association and more or less. I don't know if he calls himself this but the public voice of is that fair. He's the only one that vocal out of their group at least right so i don't know if he's like official but i'm just telling you from public perception. He is right thornton per flashpoint. Yeah that's exactly right thorn. We'll tell you up and down that he's not the official spokesman for flash points butts bro. Read the room right like yes you are and speaking of now thorne and all this has come to light. I don't even know where to begin with our opinions. I mean maybe we should just kinda give the backdrop as to what's going on a little bit. Okay i'll let you do that so all of this revolving around voice communications If you don't know what we're talking about here it's players voice comms getting recorded and then being used out for content purposes. Which as you'll hear us talk about in the interview is probably wanted to best truest forms of content right anytime. There's a live listening with cd l. Or you're watching you know. Nfl films or behind the winter classic or hard overwatch league does the same thing. A lot of funny moments have come from. Listening to player comes in the middle of a match. You know a lot of funny moments of people just gravitate towards that stuff so and so do we like larsen and who is a fan of something and says you know what. I don't eat behind the scene stuff. I'm okay yeah. i don't wanna know what it's like for them. I don't wanna know what's really going on over there. you know. it's it's like it's something. that just intrigues. Everybody fund follow obviously in an and. We're no different in so a issues of competitive integrity started coming up in You know players rights. I guess you could say in determining can they have this footage and use our likeness in whatever ways that that they choose to enter the ppa. All along with a couple of the heads of state. I guess you could say like the main people that are involved with the pa from a player's side. Looks like they got together and made some decisions really without everybody being in the know what was going on and so they came out and publicly blasted blast for The voice calm situation in having the ability to do so and you know blasts been coming out defending themselves saying like this is conversation with us in the org and you know this is like part of player contracts and ruling. It's just a lot of back and forth. I wouldn't say there's been a lot of confirmation on anything honestly like we're hearing two sides arguing with one another. What essentially happened. Is the players boycotted and delayed matches for blast pro remind you this was like a four hundred k event like this is a very large event that they're doing the senate Potentially causing some long term damage with blast and some of their partners right.
