Fresh "Overwatch" from Checkpoint Radio

"Americans back North American name and so you had a whole bunch of ID. You had lots of teams from lots of different regions. You had Japan you had Brazil you had Europe. You had, um, North America. You had, um, other than you know, Korea was there as well. Um, and they were all fairly competitive. That's the biggest thing that was really interesting to watch in. This is that you know, you have these these teams. I actually talked to a couple of the players about it. Like why has Valerie taken off in Asia, and the biggest thing is that they go yo your competitive in all these different teams right in all these different places and see us go. China and Japan are not competitive, right? Korea is not competitive in CS go but invalidate They are and it's because there's like ability similar to Overwatch, and that's how they play. Everybody that's coming into. It brings some sort of experience. Whether it's CS go from North America, or, you know, Overwatch from Korea. There's something in here that everyone recognizes, so they're not starting from literally the body. Now, before we go into the actual breakdown of the matches what teams want and everything like that. I want to talk about the event overall itself. So it was crazy. You had over 25 hunt Tens, hundreds. Thousands. Okay, so or not? Yeah. 25 million hours were watched of streamed content from just this tournament allowance. At one point during the grand finals. They had almost 1.1 million concurrent viewers on twitch alone. So that's not counting YouTube. That's not counting other people that are doing it. Average viewers about Half a million people were watching the stream at any one time. That's a drink of people a huge chunk of people, especially for a prize pool of around $600,000. The biggest match obviously is the grand Finals. The second biggest match was on day two when team liquid from Europe took on version 11 of the other North American teams, and that was one of the cool, interesting storylines that really showed up is North America versus Europe. At the very first time that all the North American teams took on European teams North America came out on top, however, team liquidy Our fanatic eventually came back and defeated version one to be able to move on to the grand Finals where sentinels eventually wanted out. So you know, like As far as how the teams performed, you had new turn from Korea that were really, really good version. 11 of the North American teams did pretty well. They didn't make it out of the lower brackets. Fanatic from Europe obviously made it to the grand Finals after losing their second match, But the team that wanted all was team signals and, you know, like it was just To talk a little bit more about behind the scenes of what's happening is there's a really big press conference afterwards. This was before the deal for tens was announced, and you know he was able to come out and say, Hey, I want to stick with his team. I want to know what I'm doing. Here is some of the behind the scenes after post match coverage that we were able to bring you that the full thing is up on our website at Checkpoint XP dot com. It is for 10, and I'm staring at a picture of a suitcase with a bunch of mice in it. Why do you bring so many? And how do you choose which one to play with? So that's the case Pictures was kind of a meme was on my stream. I'm have a chronic illness of constantly switching my mice or settings, So I tweeted that just for some humor. And, uh, Need some help. I don't know. It's just I don't know what Gnosis stick on meal stick on.

Call of Duty League and Overwatch League Loosen Sponsorship Restrictions

"Call of duty league and the overwatch league recently announced. They are loosening restrictions on the types of sponsorship deals. That franchises can make with outside companies. This means that both leagues will allow individual teams to obtain obtain sponsorship deals from previously excluded sectors such as gambling and liquor businesses. We continue to see signs of desperation from activision blizzard's franchised leagues. They had previously towed a very lofty family friendly line now that the leagues are struggling to generate revenue grow or attract an audience. It makes sense that previous ideals would be sacrificed for profit. It's unlikely that either league will lose much in the way of viewership as a consequence of this change and it should open up new revenue opportunities. But it's still stinks of

Call of Duty League and Overwatch League Will Allow Liquor Sponsors

"Of duty. League and overwatch. league loosened sponsorship restrictions will allow betting and liquor sponsors now. I don't remember if the article mentions this but activision blizzard especially has been very careful about the sponsors. They bring into both franchise leagues up until now they had rejected anything. That was even remotely like twenty one plus and so This is a big course change for them. And i'm curious what you guys think in terms of the why and what do you think the implications might be here. Okay so i actually I had you guys a different uncle this week. And i'm not sure if you've got a chance to read it. But essentially the article was about how sponsors were pulling back over the sponsorships and looking at streamers instead So let me look up the actual article. But i thought that and i knew you guys working. Read it because it's called gaming influencers future. These aren't there was actual stories in here Houston outlaws player. Who actually quit. Went to tweeden like needlework. Money that of the united talent agency said streaming the way for companies to make money off of e sports athletes There is a looking now How are you tying this back to different. Yeah no i'm saying that like you're seeing streamers and other people's specifically leaving overwatch lee to go seek other making opportunities so adding in sponsorships or things like liquor and betting that might actually be attractive to younger audience or way to engaging gradients seems like owning these sponsors will bring a younger audience to their franchise. Yup yeah

By text are two of them is sold as an attempt to help optigro and a unique investment opportunity. Other drives within the documents includes a plan for United to assemble a squad and take on the Halo Esports scene. According to sources, the plant is down likely to move forward as a state of optic gaming under NRG is still under question. However, United did plan to take over office operations to better support, hex and optic. This pitch from United is the latest news from the orc to buy in and get sold or merged with a bigger organization as they failed to buy OverWatch League, team, Houston Outlaws, and a plan for them to go public was terminated following a failed merger with an investment group home. Upheaving A Team ft. OWL Dallas Fuel General Manager, TazMo

"The start of the OverWatch League season this year, got to bring on Matt tazmo. Taylor GM General Manager for the Dallas fuel from Envy game, how you doing that as well. Hey, I'm doing great. How about yourself? I'm good, man. It's it's been a been a lot of stuff on your plate as of what this past few months, right? Yeah, definitely. It's been a very busy offseason as with every offseason, but this one specifically was a very long one, and a good one versus one, of course, of course. So times when you've been the Dallas fuels general manager since their inaugural season, all the way back in what county 2018 - 2017 is. Yeah, I mean basically as soon as the bell before the horse League I was still managing the Envy of watched T. I became the Dallas fuel season so page everything OverWatch have been from the start come and become Dallas Fuel and then being with Envy for four and a half years or something like that now so yeah. Awesome. So let's let's address the elephant in the room. Everybody wants to wants to know about and you being the the GM kind of it felt to you and and your team over there. What exactly the overhaul you revamp? The team from top to bottom dead. What led to the choice to go with this current I guess all all Korean right all Korean roster. Yep. Yeah. So basically you know, at the end of last season pass, you know, we obviously weren't happy with where we were, you know, always striving to be a very competitive team in any League. We're in an eight-game we're in and that just wasn't really the case with the roster, I know like the the team, there's a give it their all and really tried to to produce the results, but it just didn't happen. And we realized that this was the time where we could really kind of revamp and and change up a roster and dead. Since then we basically had the opportunity for the first thing and the First Foundation was to look at a new head coach and a new culture stuff in general. And after talking to Young, Who I was a nice rest with near the end of the season, obviously taken up that had cultural, he'd obviously had a lot of respect for a rush who was formerly purse turtle. And then went to say you was also former element Mystic who was incredibly successful contenders roster and Canada started from there.

Sentinel's Sinatraa Accused of Sexual Abuse by Ex-Girlfriend

"What a sad day in Esports, once again after being able to celebrate the women in Esports on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday have been a stark reminder of how far we still need to be go. First off before I get into this episode a trigger warning. This minute is going to contain details that include sexual abuse gaslighting harassment and rape on my dreams and the Esports minute from a sports network. So you've seen the allegation by now. I can imagine J one better known as Sinatra has been accused of sexual abuse with plenty of proof by Cleo his ex-girlfriend Thora is the former MVP of the OverWatch league has been playing ballarin for the central since retiring from the uw-l. The allegations are long and I'll link down below they are difficult to read but it is extremely important to do so in the Google Doc Cleo details how Sinatra coerced her into sex made her feel guilty for not wanting to have sex and progress past the point where she was saying no to confirm You having sex with her that's rape. We should call it what it is. There's audio of them having sex where you can hear that situation play out. Clearly. The write-up is nine pages long including screenshots of many different conversations. I want to read a section at the end that I think is especially important quote if this isn't proof enough, I'm not sure anything will ever be to get you to understand the hurt those done to me by this man. It's not his word against mine. It's his word against multiple points of proof and an audio of his voice not allowing me to say no to having sex and quote. She's right and while many people have spoken out about how horrible this is other voices have chosen once again to ignore a victim. The fron is one of the high-profile ones eating out quote e girls can be scary as a twitch streamer. They will try to debate or photoshop evidence to fuck you. I'm not saying she is one, but she could be and quote I really Dubose. Giving his horrible message a platform but I think it's important as it reconfirms what Cleo said at the end of her message. She knew some people wouldn't believe her even with the evidence. I hope a community we see these types of people for who they are and shut them off as this won't be the last time this happens victims shouldn't need nine-page Google Docs detailing their trauma complete with audio recordings and screenshots of multiple conversations for people to believe them. And when that happens that people's first reaction is somehow to blame Photoshop just shows how damning it is and how far people will go to not believe someone in this

Riot Games VALORANT / MSI Plans Show an Esports World Leaving LAN-Hibernation

"In Eastport during a pandemic is difficult thing to do Valor has done a pretty good job getting up and running without business as usual to rely on but today where I walk ins and outs of these Sports first land over a year since the game came out in beta in late May for VCT stage two masters. The top teams will be traveling directly vik Iceland to compete with that's still a long ways away, but it's really cool that we can actually have lands booked into the schedule again, even if fans still won't be able to attend this event the only major land to go down during the pandemic was Riot games pulling off League of Legends World in a bubble like environment at the height of the outbreak as cases shoot back down to earth and more people are vaccinated events are slowly going to pick back up cautiously optimistic is how I said, At this rate, it seems like fans will be in stands by early summer at least At A reduced capacity for I'd games they put all their chips in on Iceland this year. In addition to the stage two masters Iceland be the host of MSI running from early May up until a few days before VCT. I mean if you're going to hold multiple events in one country during a pandemic Iceland probably makes a pretty good choice. The back-to-back of MSI and then the stage two masters is kind of reminiscent of the old Festival like feeling of ESL and dreamhack events and honestly should be a ton of fun. It's a Fortune, of course, the fans won't be able to attend and receive that long but for the players will have a great time for people who aren't totally up-to-date on Valor and Esports. I'm getting a little ahead of myself here considering the first stage one Masters event still hasn't even happened that event is taking up in mid-march and it's also really noteworthy as it's going to show the first time since first strike that the overall appetite for top Valerie T sports events. I'm really curious what the viewership is going to be like on that one because it'll really highlight the fan favorite teams and how much will foothold Valerie has been able to take on and its first year certainly isn't make or break. It's the very first year of the Eastport but comparing that viewership to see us go off OverWatch and Call of Duty viewership benchmarks should make for an interesting thought experiment once it happens.

Overwatch League Releases New Format, Schedule for 2021

"Quite a few changes for the league that likely at the toughest twenty-twenty seeing multiple players retire in entire roster is being dropped to cut costs and stagnant viewership while the o w l sister lead. The CDL has actually just kicked off the o w l won't start up until April 16th the goal I think was way out ahead of the covid-19 demek and what we won't be entirely Out of the Woods by April things are actually trending pretty quickly in the right direction. Thank God still the owner of the wall is putting forth a hybrid format that can be played online or in physical locations first off instead of a regular season format like traditional Sports b o w l will be following the CDL into a more tournament based regular-season structure. The structure will feature three weeks of qualifiers, then a mid-season tournament repeated 4 times. So to make that more clear the weekends of April 16th, April 23rd, and April 29th will be the first qualifiers then the first name Tournament will be the main melee on May 7th that schedule repeats through May June July and August. Each tournament has kind of a silly name may may lay is fine. Even if it's a little bit hard to say. Some people might assume to Smash Bros event. There's also the summer Showdown and the countdown cup which are both solid alliterations will give you that but they really Force the alliteration with the June just like white jesting. I don't think it makes sense names aside. This format will likely be easier to follow for fans on YouTube you sports events do well when they crowned some sort of champion at the end of it. Only League of Legends has really been successful creating a regular season format in Esports the c d l o w l and even our LCS have all abandoned their attempts to do so in the last one or two years this year will also see three Western o w l teams competed in Asia the Valiant fusion and New York Excelsior are all moving operations to Asia for this year that brings the divisions to 8 Eastern teams and 12 Western ones. Mid-season tournament will feature both East and West teams, they will start online but will actually compete in Hawaii once they're able to resume safely talk to UAB. I do renounce any critiques of the o w l if you invite me to a mid-season tournament in Hawaii, but I reserve the right to make fun of the name June just I'm just putting that out there right now. And the last thing to talk about with the new schedule is the price full up. Once again this year crossing the song million dollar Mark over all events Grand Champions will get a share of one point five million. But with the o w l the price still feels kind of weird, right like every team paid at least twenty million dollars in often month to even compete in this league at all. Sure splitting for a million is nice but teamed invested a whole lot more to even be in the league having a chance to win a mill back feels different from prizes and leagues that don't cost money millions of dollars to enter But ultimately the o w l can still be successful. Even if it's been pretty Doom and Gloom for a while now, they just have to keep growing in China last year a be reported in ama of birth. 1 million viewers for the playoffs the majority of which are in China. It's basically the Golden Goose for Esports if alley can remain popular in China, they could continue to exist on that alone and it'll be a crucial years so w l that's for

Where Esports is Going with Nick D'Orazio, Inven Global's Director of Corporate Strategy

"So that's a really what type of content I'm trying to push in the future for Esports. I want it to be more of that and less of the same. I love that. I love that Esports is dead. So unique and and you bring up Sports and how Sports is takes on a level of everything that goes around. It is very interested and that's going to be very obvious this weekend with the Superbowl happens in American football a hundred million. People are going to watch that maybe ten million really care about football twenty and the rest are watching for commercials. They're they're watching to eat snack also day. They're watching for the halftime show. Whatever that looks like. That's where Sports exists and it's also where e Sports is definitely going and with more focus on the dispatch. Tags that come around with culture the see the awesome sneakers that are that are made that come out with like like OverWatch characters or overwatch's eyes or e-sports designs. Even that's the kind of stuff. That is so cool to me and I think we're good to see if we are seeing more and more of it and Esports and places like invent culture have really done a great job of highlighting it. Well. Yeah, and you know, it's off the expression of these fandoms, right? It's it's more than just like individual a posturing right like yes in my home right now as I look around I'm surrounded by video game art and video game fan aren't and all my favorite games, right? There's one aspect of it is that I like to be I'm around the things that I enjoy in the art that I like, but the other act and y m e Sports and gaming is certainly headed towards being expressed through the culture of fashion the culture of Art and music and I do think eventually Decor. We're already seeing that with God B&R slash Battle Stations and the aesthetic gaming a movements right? You you see that there is how do you put this? There's an underlying set of core. Hm. This is how I can experience this esport, right? This is how I can experience this game. And if I meet someone who has that shared. Oh, I also like to experience this game in this way. I also like to experience this fandom in this way that builds friendship that builds me like a meaningful. I'm communities and then these communities are the people that go towards your conventions that go to your tournaments, right? It's the same way in which every good football a culture shock and your your city usually has a bar like associated with it or like an after-game bars or like big, you know, a downtown hubs. It's because it's more than just the game and Esports is constantly, you know, keep talking a little bit before we hit on record e Sports is always worried about its Revenue stream, right? Where are we going to get this revenue from and you know, the answer is simple get more people interested in this page. Parts and find more ways to maximize the Esports a user experience. We've already learned from Starbucks that people will be fine with paying $4 more for coffee because it feels like an experience and it feels worth it. And it's nice thing people will be fine paying more for Esports. If we find out how to make it a premium experience how to make it something that lets them experience more things than just, you know, like to throw shade the same talking head style analyst people hurriedly a commenting over, you know, like any sports match and that being it that's the height of how long an experience your love for this game and and the players and this goes for you know, any major use for it. I think at all Rings true. I definitely agree and it was actually something that I don't know if he would have seen this played out in the way. I was hoping to with the Activision Blizzard franchise leagues and the way they went from City to City and now that really never took off because of covid-19. Both leagues have their own. Set core issues. But what I was really excited for was to see how all these different teams and all these different cities started running events and and the different things that popped up around those events. Like you mentioned the the bar that people Gather in. What is the lasting impact of being able to go City to city and start really putting roots of fandom down that was something I was really excited to see we never really got to see it. Well, I'll tell you this now the OverWatch League was a fairly it was an eye-opening experience for me. I thought it was like a crystal ball being a journalist and covering that it allowed me to see into the future of Esports cuz I covered every day of season one. I was there in person at the house at the arena didn't miss imagine. I interviewed so many of the players the fans. I was just there most importantly I was there and what I learned, is that the atmosphere Is very fun when you're waiting in line. It's very fun. When you're shuffling in and you're in the gift store and it's fun when you sit down and the and the team's walk in but after that it becomes like a strictly worse twitch viewing experience for then if you were just your house and you know, it's like I've seen this by faith. Like I I know this this isn't an opinion. This is a fact and it was exhausting showing up there. Even for the super fans and I saw them dwindle slowly and slowly but to your point about the Resurgence were made it all worth it is when the local gamer bar or a college, you know or student union or whatever realized. Hey, let's do an afterlife event thing or let's do a pre-event thing or let's start having these team homesteads, right? Like the problem is because they were ran by small teams. And you know who didn't really there was a lot of concerns about Thursday. Safety and things like that cuz you know, it's a blizzard. They are a big Corporation and they need to have it really spic and span cuz it's like a game for teens and all that. They were way to a closed-off right if more people knew that these Regional fan meet ups and things were happening more people would come but they didn't quite know how to Market it. So, you know, I will say that I am agree covid-19 put a stop on a lot of that right? It's hard to even continue with that but I'll also say that, you know, it's too little too late when it comes to something like the over in the mass of investment. That was you know, it's sad when you think about how many millions of dollars they put into that Arena and the teams and each of those orgs and all those invest, you know, paying what twenty million dollars per lead spot but like players salaries all of that. It's sad to think that at the end of the day the thing that had the most in in my opinion potential and scale and was dead. Most Community good was what resembled grassroot Esports what resembled if they had never done the league at all. And if they just made OverWatch a very friendly, you know public API game in which people would love to build a custom a tailor-made esport that the community accepts but we didn't get that. We instead we got a league and it you know, it didn't

Vicarious Visions reportedly working on a Diablo 2 remake at Blizzard

"For me. The story of the week is vicarious visions rolled in spink succumb to the blizzard. Avalanche of the blizzard ebay. They need to plow basically. They need good that name again. It's fist blow to dig them out Most recently they made tony hawk one and two which i rave about last year absolutely phenomenal Release of those games. Did the crash release as well and i just outstanding studio. In my opinion. I think track record of just hits in working on some great games in now Based on the press release that came out it appears as if they are going to be a support studio for the larger blizzard instead of like. Hey go make a new ip or go work on this franchisor or elite on this they. It seems like we'll be one of the many studios you see as you're waiting to get to the title screen of a gay or when the credits are rolling. You're like how many people worked on this in support of i blizzard game. So i guess diablo's or unannounced Helping ship overwatch to maybe. But it's kind of a bummer. I think that team seem super talented. And it this seems kind of unceremonious to me. Well the rumor is that vicarious visions has been working on a diablo to re master for quite a while and that blizzard was so dissatisfied with the warcraft. Three re master which received a lot of hype and was Was a disappointment. i think. I think there's only one way to describe it. It was a disappointment to fans. It was a disappointment to the studio when it released it. Had a bunch of problems and I think they the rumor is that they wanted to date. Being blizzard. wanted to avoid a repeat of that kind of scenario and we're using vicarious visions to work on the diablo two remastered which is unannounced. Chat is saying remake is what they're polite yes. Pardon me remake. These terms should be precise and i. It's my mistake for nelson. Hasn't been out so we don't really know i mean with warcraft. Three was a master. S diablo to remake would be pretty exciting but yes supposedly that was handed over to the four-team and then than they brought in vicarious visions to offload that work as work on the before ramped up and They're they're calling it. Diablo two resurrected all again all of this rumor. But if that's the case super excited obviously victorious visions. Very good at these kinds of remakes. These kinds of taking old games and making them look gorgeous on modern technology so as a huge fan of the oslo to very excited about that prospect. Be i get what you're saying christian about it. Being a bit of a bummer. To to hear that they will no longer be the lead developer on any kind of game creation. Rob you Inside a developer. All the time what. What is your your take on. This is the kind of thing that would be disheartening to a group to to visions themselves or do they see it as potentially an opportunity to probably a little bit of both The thing that bums me out. The most is sort of losing vicarious visions v as it's colloquially known in the games industry as as a brand like air studio that has a very long history. They've been around for a very long time. One of the few coast studios in albany new york which is rare So them to sort of lose their identity and just become you know a blizzard new yorker or whatever blizzard east Is just a bummer. Just from just from a name standpoint It does. I mean they do good work though so i think ultimately for the security of the people working the studio is probably a good thing it ensures longevity that those people will have jobs and projects at work on whether or not. It's the projects that those folks were hoping to work on if they were developing internally typically studios are always trying to develop things internally especially smaller studios sports support studios. They wanna like make their own. Ap eventually that's probably the goal of every studio. Imagine sure and so losing that for now. is probably. There's probably some stink to it. But i would also say like if they continue to prove themselves doing this. There's no reason why. I wouldn't think that they might be handed. Something in the future that may be as a blizzard. Ip and maybe they make a new game with one of those ip's

Where in the World is the Overwatch League Headed in 2021?

"Opportunities across digital media podcasting and video programs. Please reach out to e-sports and Eric Segal marked in using the email off of the show. Hey, the sooner we're going to sponsor the sooner. I want to lead every single episode with that read. So hit up Mark, please today. We're talking the OverWatch the end of all these Sports o w l had the hardest thing twenty already entering the year of plenty of questions. The year saw reigning MVP Sinatra jumped to Valour in the Vancouver Titans, the defending runner-ups dropped their entire roster do to covet and owners to report may ask for bargains on their massive by ends. Yeah. It wasn't good 20 21 might be better but the League's questions surrounding it only got larger this week blizzard announced the 2021 Ram. Schedule even though the Call of Duty League the o w l sister league in many rights is starting in mid-February the o w l won't kick off until April in that time three Western teams the New York Excelsior the Philadelphia Fusion and the LA Valiant all announced they'll be moving operations to Asia for the season due to covet thy that brings the division of to a split of 12 teams in the west and 8 in the East and speaking of the LA Valiant report from Aaron Halo speak in o w l Insider find that the LA Valiant have actually been sold to a company or owner in China. His report said that that new owner was a fully Chinese roster leading team will release of the entire team and coaching staff. The LA Valiant have denied that report for now. We don't know the truth, but Halo is broken plenty of stories in the past. Even if he shoots from the hip a little bit when it comes to some reports in many cases the massive binds that owners paid to get in the league are forcing them to cut costs on player salaries that's creating a really weird ecosystem or contracts are going down as Activision Blizzard game. Of an insane amount of cash the Paris a turtle are one such example as an expansion team Following season 1 the estimated price of the spot. They bought was absolutely more than twenty million volts SPN estimating that those parts are going between Thirty and sixty million each with Paris being a main International Hub. There's was probably on the upper end of that estimate range if ESPN's correct there back in November, the org released its entire roster. It's not like the Eternal were bad or anything last season. They finished first in the North Division and fourth overall. They did have a poor showing in the play-offs but this is clearly a cost-cutting measure from the management team in Paris quite similar to what happened with the Vancouver Titans during the season. So where does the league go from here the viewership breakdown points in a clear direction to me. The 2020 season had pretty bad viewership Esports chart said the average was about 46,000 viewers a decline of 60% from last season now part of that might be the move from twitch over. YouTube but still a 60% decline doesn't just happen out of nowhere The crucial thing about e-sports towards data though is that it doesn't include Chinese you worship and that's where things get a little bit interesting facts into the Nielsen am a data which does implement Chinese viewership d o w l finals the only event we have am a data for was watched by 1.55 million people. That's a 38% increase over the 2019 finals. So hey, that sounds like pretty good news. It's not League of Legends numbers, but it's still pretty good. If you can bind that little bit of knowledge with the three Western teams competing out of Asia and the one already reportedly having been sold to a Chinese owner and we see a potential exit strategy emerging or owners unhappy with their o w l investment prior to the season. The breakdown was fifteen Western teams and 5 Eastern teams that becomes 6 if the Valiant sale holds and then there are already those two are or there's already competing over there for twenty Twenty-One. Although neither am boxer Comcast have indicated. They have any plan to sell their mostly just moving over to Asia because it's a little bit easier. Logistically, I believe but going on as more owners are unhappy and more Chinese owners are actually willing to pay for these teams. I think we could see those scales tipped towards an equal split between divisions. If not favoring China eventually. There's certainly no shortage of cash for Esports in China these days. If you look at the type of Investments, they're

We really gonna talk about gave you the year already be our early. I mean. I don't know what i mean. You know we already know what some of the major major titles coming out to be right breath of the wild to go to war to halo infinite. We know what the big ones are going to bay. But you know i think what. Twenty twenty tortoise is increasingly The game of the year com can come from left. Field at fog is my personal game in the eighties. Who saw that coming right. That was a that was the it her. A lot of people. Haiti's was a big hit. Would you would you. Would you have predicted that jenny. Six last year. I don't think so. So who the hell knows predictions and trying to make these predictions is a mugs. Game blessing. Stay out of it. Yeah i. I'm really excited for this year. Because i feel like you. Usually at the beginning of previous years we could we. Could i see the future riley. We could easily be like okay. Twenty eight twenty game of the year is probably gonna be between last part two and sarah punk and like of course like we didn't see hades coming and so that stuff does an exciting rental inch into it. Twenty twenty one. I think you can easily be like okay. Got four ragnarok. But i think most of us think that game that game's gonna get laid right. It's like who knows then you have breath awhile while we're still didn't still doesn't technically have release date and so that's another one of we'll see overwatch to is in there too which i expect will be twenty twenty one but again who knows This year is such a mystery for quite a few big games within quite a few games that we've just been anticipating for a while and so. That's that's exciting from that standpoint. Also in terms of games like like you said games that we don't necessarily see coming. There are few indie games. That i'm excited for that. I don't know. I can't predict on a haiti's level or like a fog has level because who knows But there are some indie games. That i think could have the chance to be a a big thing or be exciting. Or maybe reese that game of the year level Twelve minutes a game. That i know a lot of people are looking forward to internet excited for. And that's one that i'm excited for Cava trailer here for a game called she dreams elsewhere which i think i've talked about on shelves before you wanna play the trailer you don't have to play with us playedas and blocking But that's another game that i'm personally excited for. It's a game that is stylized a bit like in under tail or an earthbound. Is that type of game And i've seen at passes before. And i'm very excited about it very much looking forward to it there. Stray which is like kind of a low-key game was at that place. It was at that playstation presentation that they didn't june and i know a lot of people were excited about that and it's like game that people are looking forward to

The Most Important Esports Business Deals in 2020

"Look at the biggest Esports business deals from a tumultuous year. I'm a dreams and this is the Esports minute from E Sports Network. We're going to start with the business world today and move to the biggest stories over off tomorrow. Our top three biggest Esports business stories begin with BMW under the banner United and rivalry, which is transcended ties to the BMW brand the luxury carmaker partnered with five major Choice dogs all with top-tier League of Legends teams fun Plus Phoenix, then the defending world champions represented China Faker and T1 represented Korea Cloud, 9 wrapped n a and both G2 and thought it represented EU across-the-board top-tier teams with huge fan bases at the time Christopher Koenig a spokesperson for BMW said to me for an adweek article quote. We are professionals when it comes to marketing to our sales funnel and our traditional marketing group, but when it comes to younger Target group Generation Y Millennials, we only have partial answers on how to reach them. Then there's the even more important the future table. Group of Generation Z we have almost no answers on how to reach them. He sports for us is a channel to reach this group and quote and I think that really sums up the value of Esports four Brands thought you switch will continue to become a central part of smart Brands marketing strategies going forward. Number two in our list YouTube gaming acquires the broadcast rights for the OverWatch and Call of Duty leagues in a year that was marked by competition between streaming Giants and we'll talk about mixer tomorrow. Trust me YouTube's acquisition of two major Esports properties was a key moment in the sights growth into live viewing now thanks to the pandemic neither pows or CDL were able to Showcase their true potential but YouTube's investment in coming for Twitches Esports market share was a huge moment and finally the most controversial brand deal of the year the LEC and blasphemy are partnering with a futuristic city planned by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has a poor record on human rights issues, especially for any member of the lgbtq family considering the LEC is closely tied to that Community Thursday. Casting Squad and audience the resulting controversy for strike games to pull out of the deal while it was happening blastomere avoid a lot of the public-facing controversy despite also partner with me on at the same time still page pulled out of the deal a few weeks after right games pulled out in all it was a crucial moment when moral choices of the audience and cast members came in direct conflict with what had to be an absolute boatload of

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) Civil War

"For those who might not have looked at twitter in the last forty eight hours. This all started when mouse sports and astrology decided to boycott their match for a handful of hours over the weekend or not even over the weekend. Was it tuesday. Tuesday tuesday yesterday. Was that just yesterday was yesterday. Oh my oh my the the. I've never seen drama escalate this much. So then they decided to boycott and somehow within twenty four hours every dirt that everyone's been holding on to the players association is all of a sudden coming to light like so to set the stage. The players association boycotted sir. Scoots is an adviser for the players association and more or less. I don't know if he calls himself this but the public voice of is that fair. He's the only one that vocal out of their group at least right so i don't know if he's like official but i'm just telling you from public perception. He is right thornton per flashpoint. Yeah that's exactly right thorn. We'll tell you up and down that he's not the official spokesman for flash points butts bro. Read the room right like yes you are and speaking of now thorne and all this has come to light. I don't even know where to begin with our opinions. I mean maybe we should just kinda give the backdrop as to what's going on a little bit. Okay i'll let you do that so all of this revolving around voice communications If you don't know what we're talking about here it's players voice comms getting recorded and then being used out for content purposes. Which as you'll hear us talk about in the interview is probably wanted to best truest forms of content right anytime. There's a live listening with cd l. Or you're watching you know. Nfl films or behind the winter classic or hard overwatch league does the same thing. A lot of funny moments have come from. Listening to player comes in the middle of a match. You know a lot of funny moments of people just gravitate towards that stuff so and so do we like larsen and who is a fan of something and says you know what. I don't eat behind the scene stuff. I'm okay yeah. i don't wanna know what it's like for them. I don't wanna know what's really going on over there. you know. it's it's like it's something. that just intrigues. Everybody fund follow obviously in an and. We're no different in so a issues of competitive integrity started coming up in You know players rights. I guess you could say in determining can they have this footage and use our likeness in whatever ways that that they choose to enter the ppa. All along with a couple of the heads of state. I guess you could say like the main people that are involved with the pa from a player's side. Looks like they got together and made some decisions really without everybody being in the know what was going on and so they came out and publicly blasted blast for The voice calm situation in having the ability to do so and you know blasts been coming out defending themselves saying like this is conversation with us in the org and you know this is like part of player contracts and ruling. It's just a lot of back and forth. I wouldn't say there's been a lot of confirmation on anything honestly like we're hearing two sides arguing with one another. What essentially happened. Is the players boycotted and delayed matches for blast pro remind you this was like a four hundred k event like this is a very large event that they're doing the senate Potentially causing some long term damage with blast and some of their partners right. There's like a rumor that there is a bbc deal on the table and the voice comes. Were a big selling point. You know that could be jeopardizing that deal. Potentially a but a lot of just a lot going on from both sides like with wait. Twenty four hours. It's been a twenty four hour

Riot Games Reports League of Legends Worlds Viewership for 2020

"No secret that League of Legends world's is the most watch E sports event every year but the absolute massive gap between worlds and other events is all staggering to see this morning right games reported an average minute audience or AMA of twenty-three million as an increase of about 1.2 million / 2019. They also reported a peek concurrent viewership of forty six million viewers and over 1 billion total hours watch over the entire course of the tournament e Sports viewership can be confusing to track given the difference between a streaming platforms track viewers and how TV networks do so. So Riot and Activision Blizzard brought in Nielsen to provide the average minute audience or am a stack the stat is directly comparable to other he's dead. Events who use AMA and to traditional sports events and their TV ratings any sports Activision Blizzard's announced AMA for the OverWatch League finals was 2.9 Million globally. That's just a little bit over 10% of what world's received. It's no wonder o w l team owners are in conversations to get partial refunds from a Beyond those lofty team by ends, but worlds was also higher than most traditional sports events as well. The 2020 MLB World Series saw an average of about ten million viewers per game. So about half of League of Legends world. The NBA finals were even worse averaging about 7 and 1/2 hours per game. It should be said that the World Series was in line with previous historical averages while the 2020 NBA Finals was an anomaly only seeing about half of the viewership. We saw over the five finals before it off other events of League of Legends world's beat included the NHL finals, which was at two million viewers and gulps the Masters at about six million viewers. There are only a small handful of sporting events drawing more viewers than League of Legends at home. Point Wimbledon Tennis is about 28 million viewers the Superbowl sits around a hundred million viewers every year and then the Champions League finals which neared five hundred million viewers back in 2019. I believe a bunch of other soccer events are probably over that number as well, but I didn't go through all the regional leagues. This does not include events that happen every four years like the Olympics the soccer World Cup or the Cricket World Cup, which are all well overly of Legends as well. Still you can see why league is attracted so much attention and brought in so many Brands. It's in really lofty company with numbers like this. It's all first episode of the Esports minute. If you want more Esports content, we publish a new episode of the game or hour or Chris pocket interviews former NFL running back Arian Foster. A lot of fantasy football fans will remember when Arian Foster broke onto the scene with a couple record-setting years back in the early part of this decade.

Recapping Valorant's First Strike Tournaments From Around the World

"Fowler was relieved the summer. All the competitions have been ones that e Sports organizations paid to host. And while these events have produced Some solid moments. All eyes have been on Riot for how they'll begin to craft and Esports structure around the popular town. The first step was last weekend most likely of Legends Riot would worldwide with the first set of tournaments holding Seventeen tournaments in different regions around the world almost all were brand as first strike been the region so first strike and then a first strike you first by Korea et cetera, et cetera a few others were incorporated into other existing events like the ESL Thailand championship and mine skeevy XV wage. The notable Omission was China because the game hasn't been approved by the Chinese government yet. So that left three major regions any you and Korea each of these regions had the biggest prize pool for First Strike with 100 Grand a piece. We're still in a period of time where teams are figuring out who the best players are so big orgs are not yet dominating like they will in a few years in Korea Vision Strikers took down tnl Esports. Both teams were created specifically to compete in Ballarat and have no other rosters or prior history according to League pedia in Europe. The winter is recognizable as team. Heretics grab first. Second place was summoned F250 Valerie team looking for an org and but they find one and it was too big fan favorites who competed for the title as 100 thieves btsm the entire group of first strike in a was actually really big box. It feels like the only region that had that in addition to thieves and TSM. There were also Sentinels Renegades Envy FaZe Clan T1, and Immortals viewership was good to write games allowed KO streaming down. The fans can watch individual players perspectives big names like myth and ninja commanded solid audience during first strike n a it's too early to say whether or not Valerie will be successful. But this event went well things considered anecdotally the game was fun to watch even though I'm not a huge shooter fan. Normally, it seemed a bit less hectic than OverWatch. Even if it was sometimes hard to follow the action. That's something that every game goes through during first few broadcasts. It's just really hard to figure out what they should be prioritizing on air if Valerie is successful. We can say we witnessed a crucial moment in the birth of a new sport this past weekend.

Activision Blizzard Reportedly in Talks with Team Owners to Reduce Franchise Buy-Ins

"Blizzard's franchise leagues buy-ins raised a ton of eyebrows around Esports. It's the o w l kicked it off with franchise fees to the original 12 teams at twenty million dollars each. The aid expansion teams that came after the first season paid even more according to various reports about some reports said that those binds might get up to sixty million dollars. The Call of Duty League was similar all the start of branches paid 25 million bucks for a spot and they haven't had any expansion teams yet. Well that investment has not been recouped and is in danger of crippling franchises the pandemic cause massive turmoil, of course, but the declining popularity of OverWatch is also a key concern according to this report. Western Road, Tony Petty the former Dem will be Deputy Commissioner hired by a be over the summer has been in talks to teens about how to make their organization successful long-term. Nothing has been decided yet. But cutting down those lofty Pines would go a long way and removing the heartfelt by the team's very few e Sports organizations are profitable even the ones with the massive content machines quite a few of the organizations that compete in one foul or both of the CDL and o w l only compete in the CDL or owo. Those are the ones most in danger of folding without an Roi soon. Now, nothing has been decided hear. These are just box but these are talks that have happened for a while and they're incredibly important conversations. The fact that team owners are now less bullish on these leagues, especially the o w l than they were a few years ago is pretty telling if not entirely surprising the main selling point for the o w l was the Geo localized nature of the league and while that hasn't been entirely the fault of a b it hasn't been able to take off. There are no guarantees that even when cope with this model will be song. Either it had never been tried before guess we'll have to wait and see but if anybody wants to keep these leagues around especially the o w l they should be offering discounts on those by ends.

Riot Games Reportedly Shopping English Media Rights for LoL Esports

"Games has confirmed their shopping the granddaddy of all media rights deals on the trains and said the Esports minute from a sports network. The Esports minute is presented by technology game-changers. Check them out at TGC play linked below media rights deals or one of the key ways traditional sports teams and leagues earn money, but in use Sports, they are nearly as valuable accepts me for this one Riot games is reportedly shopping the English media rights deal for League of Legends Esports. Ryan has already sold the Chinese specific media rights to Billy Billy for $113 according Port now that deal was only for the worldwide events. Not for the regional leagues. I think it's fair to assume. The English media rights deals are in the same ballpark, but it's hard to tell without knowing the individual leagues that were applied to the deal if right is selling the rights to broadcast the LCS the LEC and international events in English. It will undoubtedly be the biggest media rights deal in Esports History Month. The two key players vying for the rights will be YouTube and twitch YouTube swooped the Activision Blizzard media rights from twitch before this previous season becoming the whole of the OverWatch and Call of Duty leagues. But League of Legends Esports are on another level entirely international events are the most watched streams on Twitch every single year without fail. They are also broadcast on YouTube though. It seems like ahead of the next year. It's going to be one of the other this was first reported by Travis Gafford, but confirmed by the sports Business Journal a few days ago. Now how riots used divvy up. These meteorites will shape the E Sports landscape for years to come and whoever brings most cash to the table will set themselves up with the biggest Esports product in the world bar.

"Ali's were such a an unqualified success. . I think is the correct terminology to use their <hes> you know just so critically acclaimed and and so positively received by all over watch league fans that the League has decided to copy some of our awards and assigned some some coach of the years, , the Dennis Aleka Award winner, , and the rookie of the year were announced I. . Believe all of them were announced this past weekend and moon one coach of the year so. . I mean, , we even gave you the right answer and run. . Was One of our <hes> nominees as well. . Right? One ? <hes> mccreavy one that Dennis Award. . have no comment. . I see my comments from last year about what that what that award turned into what it could have been <hes> but major props for the Housi- re tweet <hes>. . That is. . Now and then alarm is the rookie the year <hes> that one was a little bit of a no brainer to be perfectly honest when you're a rookie and squarely in fairly significantly <hes> in the MVP running then right you really should win this I really liked his announcement video i. . don't know if you saw it but <hes>. . Made me like the player a little bit more just kind of his attitude about the whole thing like. . It when he was asked about it, , he said you know. . I care about this almost more than I care about the MVP award. I've . got a lot of cracks to try to win the MVP award I only get one go at rookie of the year and so <hes> I think that was just a really good attitude from out it, , and then you could see when they told him obviously the emotion that he was <hes> really a little overwhelmed there and it's got to be great to put it all that hard work and <hes> get some form of accolades or acknowledgement of that and <hes> I thought he was. . Really. . Gracious accepting everything like that. . Quick to put some a lot of the credit and <hes> accolades onto his teammates and CETERA. . So. . It was very professional kind of response and <hes> a very mature attitude towards the whole awards process <hes> just yeah. . Just really made me like alarm a little bit more. . I. . Mean if his his play wasn't enough <hes> does seem like somebody that really gets what the League is about in going for <hes> you know has the right attitude about everything and should continue to be great and hopefully does get the MVP award in the future. . Yeah Keep it up. . He's been great. . Yeah. . I. . Mean It's a flood has got to retire at some point. . <hes> but yeah, , I think it's interesting. . That you point that out death because it's it's almost refreshing to see an east sports athlete like. . Take a more or like. . The things that you're saying are not like. . You know revolutionary right like we see like this is the this is the the mainstay for traditional sports. . It's like the PR answer but like you can give the PR answer and still put your own spin on it in your own emotion on it, , and it can still be true. . It's just like I don't know I've almost maybe it's because we're boomers now. . Or maybe it's just. . Or maybe it's because we're deadened to the like I'm just so over the like. . <hes>. . I'll call it. The . livestream fails <hes> <laughter> like mentality of everything where it's just like, , Oh, well, , , I'm going to just be I'm going to be. . I'm going to say something stupid here I'm GonNa try to 'cause I'm going to try to cause something out of nothing and it's like sometimes you can just give the professional answer and and and be fine. . So I don't know I I like the from it. . was going to be that I, , mean, , there's definitely more than one way you can go about doing this and this is this his kind of. . Is Answers his. . The way he portrayed it and himself in that situation was a little bit the cookie cutter way. . But you you definitely need both right has without having the cookie cutter way even norm than the other people that are a little more outlandish is interesting or it really right and almost waters it down in its own way. . So it's it's great to see. . You know this kind of attitude mentality recognized I think it it. . Only enhances anybody goofy about it in the future trying to think of anybody really was goofy about it though not. . Not Not in this case, , I'm just thinking and I'm not even necessarily thinking about overwatch specifically I'm just thinking of like in general like. . Not Everyone Yeah Sinatra was like a little bit arrogant about it after the fact but like Kinda gracious in the moment, , which was which was called four I think he absolutely handled it a little different with MVP <hes>. . You know and then at to me, , it's it's weird when you are hearing the <hes> acceptance speeches and stuff, , and maybe this is a mark that I'm getting used to that a little bit can like listen to the message but like when it comes through a translator. . And then when you're hearing the words, , the emotion is one degree separate right? ? Try like apply the inflection in the language. . You don't understand the more deadpan words coming from. . Fair to say the Jonet wasn't exactly that way you know anything like that. . And obviously, , this is this is a different award. . I don't really remember eighty <hes> rookie of the years in the past and I did it. . and. . was. . Everybody. . So the award didn't make much sense there. . So yeah, , I don't really remember <hes> I mean I remember who won last year I just don't remember anything about the unveiling of the announcement. . So yeah. . Yeah I don't know it was just a good job overall by <hes> production maybe too dumb things out I really did enjoy the award announcements. . Yeah. . <HES> does this time around for sure

"We gotta start at the top but <hes>. . Boston uprising defeating the Houston outlaws it three to one. . I, , know shrug in chat as has shown up specifically to hear this one's Oh. . People will will tune in for this one I mean like I was very vocal about it after the match on twitter. . It's it's very easy to deduce what went wrong in this game <hes>, , and that is a woefully under coached and unprepared team <hes> tried to do something that's never been viable in the history of overwatch. . And they tried to do it at a time when it makes little sense as humanly possible for their strategy to be effective and <hes>. . This was purely a coaching failure to me. . There's just no two ways around it. . They lost to a team that had previously won two games on the season <hes> that we discussed this potentially being actually worsen over watch the the Owen Forty Shanghai dragons from season. . One we on ironically had that conversation <hes>. . They tried to run Faira in a hit scan Meta that that's it. . They treated it like it was a lock and load must pick day Spanish. . How Long Months Months. . Training a GPS player to become their main tank and then when they needed their main tank to play a GPS hero like road hog, , they swap in different DPS player to. . Free up their main tank player to fly around in the sky and play Farah. . Now if you'RE WANNA run fair I have no issue with it being hydration right that the man was previously transcendent on the hero like he did things that nobody else was really able to do on a was I'm talking back, , season one. . Better. . Find is a history lesson not not a a me trying like compare people recent times. . So I have no issues with with hydration being that guy <hes> but. . The road hog was perfect for him. . What we're seeing throughout this tournament is that Kinda Best Road for the teams that are using it Are the maintain players that adapt into it <hes>. . There's a certain of positioning in coordination in a style to this version of roadlog. . If you're running a measure main tank, , you still kinda needed to operate as your main tank in needs the control space and hold corners and <hes> just absolutely play it much like you would a reinhard in a way. . You know you're playing on your corners and you're using your natural cover because you don't have a shield still kind of in the same position and now we have. . blase coming in and playing it and I thought he did a pretty good job. . I mean people were talking about how great fusions looked kind of thought blase out performed fusions. . But he did it in a different style that was kinda worse for the team or he was much more flaky. He . was much more Ganji player. . South road hogs. . So our doom players, , the accurate one, , right that's what what ways <hes>, , and it just didn't quite have the same level of impact. . But I think he kind of outperformed fusions thought he got more value out of the picked infusions dead. . This fight was lost in the hero select screen. . Apparently, , their first scrim because in a game where. . And Ash are two of the best DPS selections they decided. . We can run fair with a one hundred percent pick right and it's just gonNa work and that's like I said something that's never once been true in the history of overwatch like even when widowmaker and macree and ash suck. . It doesn't work because you have diva you have. . Anna were both also mainstays in the lineup for the Boston uprising. . They never have of a counter area you're doing it. . Why would we stop doing? ? It was just asinine. . Eh. . Just absolutely ridiculous. . There was no backup strategy they going into the last map they played it on everything Lee Jang Tower control, center , <hes> like literally everywhere. "Ledges Tarik that have good so kind of random, but. He's super cool guy. Really enjoy I bet a fan of him since two thousand nine, so it was really cool. Actually meeting and talking to supernovae, but yeah. Same, old, other stuff as well just continuing on and being very mediocre to bad valor into though I feel like our stream session like I, had actually warmed up beforehand and like started off pretty good. And then of course in the second hand, you were the only one of us playing even remotely close to well, which is exactly the opposite right? Track. We had a trash that footage. If you're wondering what our technical difficulty was, it was that Levin was on top of the leaderboard so. Called Riot. They agreed that he something was wrong with the server, and so we just shut everything down. Yeah, yeah, that was that was definitely yeah. Good stuff, good stuff, but yeah, definitely check out all that good stuff. If you want links, you can hit us up on dischord. Check our twitter's. It's all there but. Enough about us. We're boring. We're boring boomers, and this is in the boring boomer cast. This is the overwatch Lee gassed and we'll be talking about some news there, right. News! So. Death and I talked about this beforehand, and we both came to the very same conclusion. That unless something, for whatever reason changes. In our opinion or there's something special about these Overwatch League player retirements. We don't have anything additional to say to them, so we're going to report them to you. But the hack that graves retired from professional overwatch. Corey is retired. For the, Washington Justice and Professional, overwatch and stratos is moving to a content creation role within the Washington. Justice Organization. We have elaborated extensively on our opinions of the players leaving right now with Sinatra and with. With hip. Hop and Been Dod. Are Calixto Are, is it sucks were sad to see all of them go. We think it's probably a mistake and Yeah, we don't want to just keep harping on. Keep bringing up the those kind of topics everything like that so copy paste from those conversation I don't mind talking about it. It's just we don't have anything new so checkout episodes two. Oh, six, two, two, zero eight I. Think is where we talked about it started at. Checkout episode to Oh. Was it. Really last episode feels like. Oh, so long episodes was a lease Sinatra's. Sinatra, thank you. Checkout somewhere between episode two Oh six and to eight to get our. Because even these retirements tend to happen one day after we record so friends like it was two or three weeks ago, it was one episode ago. That's true, yeah. Yeah definitely come up multiple times in the last three EPS. Nothing nothing new there. So those those happened punk has joined the Boston uprising which I believe puts them at almost stayed league the at the League minimum. Puts them. Or added to believe the League minimum is moved to seven for the year so so. Yeah you, so they were good before. Technically we learned after complaining about it for a while like I think it was. Somebody from Florida mentioned in reply on twitter or something that it was actually seven for this year, and the change was made public, but just not like announced so. Missed by most people got essentially but yeah now they're eight, which is is better for them. Obviously and PUNK is a tank player off tank, so we're looking at possibly. Competition for Bruce's role, and I also believe this was a player that was part of the Uprising Academy, previously and his Kinda bit known in the organization although also believe similar to there. Last signings been inactive for a minute..

"Right? I'm. They're still going to be good enough to make the playoffs because of what we've seen them do against the vast majority of the rest of their division. That's there so that is a viable option going forward though we will harp on them for it if they do. Take that route a little bit. I'm very curious to see. I almost would rather see them. Stick to it then like. You know play musical chairs with it and write back to last season strategy. That's the case for every roster. Decision I've disagreed with in the history of Overwatch League like you're the coach that gets paid. So what are you? You know what I mean so stick with your. Your Guts Trust Your judgment. That is is always a great. Way To go about it. Tune out the noise, do it? You things best. But how do you not? Right when pushing your main tanked player onto diva. How do you not just put a diva in over your second main tank option? It just feels like such an easy thing to try unless he wasn't available. I don't know right. You can't speculate on that. We just have to assume they'll tell us. Right. Man I had a point about the tournament structure that is probably relevant, but I don't really want to delve too deep into it, so let's keep the Ritz. Keep the retort on it short, but. We're GONNA talk. Can we talk about the fact that the seating for this tournament is potentially being done with hero pools, and then the tournament itself is playing not hero Beatles. Is that relevant to Utah Death at that rings a bell for me. It's not a good bill. I don't think it is because the regular season was going to be based off your pools. In the end of season tournament wasn't anyways. That's I think it might be a problem in the sense that like if the placement matches are happening over two weekends or something. Did you get a decent enough sample size across multiple euro pools for it to be? Okay, maybe not. But. It's probably you kind of have to do it that way. This is one of those things where ideally there'd be a point in the season when everybody was plus or minus one game of each other, and you could break for the tournament then and just use standings. But with the brakes with some regions with teams traveling some teams are tragically behind and to have to play. Catch up, so you can't really use standings at the moment, probably not a better way to do it because you can't take your appeals out of the. You're not doing that, right? You're not taking euro-polls out just because you WanNa have tournament in so yeah, probably no alternative, but it's sub optimal..

"Fully understand them and how to play them and how to attack them, and then the tier differences become much more defined. And they make for some much easier. Predictions obviously when you see a match happened three times, and then you know you, can you can. Much more reliably. Predict outcome when you've not those results. So I think it's great that they're opening things up a little bit. Again in a world where nothing's perfect playing on ninety lag, instead of forty forty penguins, the really matter I don't know that it does especially if both teams are. Affected by equal, you change where it's. It has to be to be fair. I don't care. Make it work. I just don't care about lag in this season, too many other things to care about that. Go by the wayside, not playing US versus Korea who make sense, but otherwise open it up, it's. Yeah so makes you do check out the Houston versus dowse didn't go in the. You know the way of the good guys this time. But it's you know you got the devils away that occasion in order to keep it interesting. So congratulations the Dallas they're. Super Super Close and I'm hoping we see because of the scheduling changes. I want to see that match up three times three more times this year. Please has not something that's going to be on the schedule four times in a regular season, so let's take advantage of this weirdness. Make some good out of it and really build up that rivalry that that exists in his very real very there and the fan bases i. think that's a way you can y'all make some good out of the situation and that I'm so close to. It was just it was great match Not, even as a Houston Fan was happy to see it to be honest, anything that close from a team that was so far behind everybody earlier in the year it still feels like they're on the comeback track a little bit and. Clean some things up. A little bit here and there and. Try to sneak into the plans as I. think still in the cards for both of these teams, obviously without the players specific advice, there yeah, This is a great match and really the headliner that weekend, so if you couldn't watch much this weekend, I'd say watch this one and then the next one. We're going to talk about here tomorrow. Really, we've gotTA talk about 'cause. They weren't close. But. They should have been and we thought. And they didn't deliver so that makes them interesting in their own right. By I WANNA. Ask You about Shanghai dragons versus the sole dynasty next. That was three Oh for Shanghai in a match. I've been super high on Seoul and talking them up. Yeah, now, really high on my list. Yeah, and we gotten a chance to see anything to make us come off of that. Opinion or stance until this weekend. So what are you? What are your thoughts on that match? Where do you put the Sole Dynasty? After that loss? It's tough and we talked about this beforehand, but souls running two main tanks. "Into. Its Tournament Tom. Let's talk about the matches that happened last week. We've got soul dynasty kicking off the week three to zero versus the Hong Chow Spark. Shanghai dragons, winning three zero versus Guangzhou charge ny xl easiest five of their lives, actually only three hours. The Chengdu Hunters Philly, fusion in our one of our match of the weeks, actually took it home, three of versus Atlanta rain. San Francisco shock win three Oh versus the L. A. Valiant on a stop there for a second. Have we ever seen this? Many X. Does in a week I. Don't think we have. Eight out of ten. Probably not and we'll get into more and more. Hong Zhao spark when three one versus the hunters Shanghai dragons win three zero versus the sole dynasty will be talking more about that and I'm sure. Ny Xl get the actual easiest five over life winning three overs Guangzhou charge. For mayhem winning three overs, the boss, uprising, and Indie, not three not three Os. WE HAVE THE DALLAS fuel winning three two two verses the Houston outlaws. Now. Let's start there. There's a lot a lot of places to start I'll let you pick. Yeah, that that one was a banger. We talked about how close we thought that one was yeah. and we both ended up picking Houston, but we went way out of our way to say there's no confidence to it just got like minor thing of like tracer was out, and it was that was decays. Comfort pack might make a slight difference. And it lived up to every bit of that so Youtube Guy. That didn't like that we were so. It was pretty close. Bro, so okay, no in all seriousness. Yeah! This was a great match. really really really back and forth if I'm being honest. I think Houston played better over all across the five maps. They just had some crucial mistakes one in particular. cost them the route. Sixty six fuller holds that they were gonNA pull off It was right down to the last minute. I actually like missed a play. And then there's no clips on Youtube, or whatever's I gotta go back and fight exactly what happened? There but yeah. That was very very close. To me that mistake really swung it and allowed it to get to the map, five but yeah map five point three on the on the tiebreaker map. It was as close as you can get your. You, know without that third map like it was coffers, even weird between those teams right one team, each team won one of the points decisively, not particularly close, and then another one went nine ninety nine down to the last fight so it was really really back and forth I just to me a a really great match of Overwatch League in a weekend. That needed it because of all the three hours it was not in the most compelling stuff that we saw this weekend and I think that's a little bit. A product of these teams playing each other so much yeah? You start to really..

"They're right the games that even if I quit playing him ten years ago, I can go back right now and watch illegal legends game, right and. Generally, what's going on I may not know the name of all the abilities, but I can watch it for understanding critical analysis and check it out. Saying was true. It's go if you played that in the past and they haven't right. You kind of understand why okay they planned in a bomb. They gotTA diffuse it. Somebody says terrorists and counter terrorists and okay. I'm caught up. I kinda understand why. That's not going to be the case for all these Games, and you're going to have growing pains. You'RE GONNA. Have lower viewership as you start out. You're going to have to grow you know. Overwatch goes onto overwatch to goes into overwatch five, and now all of a sudden. You've got something right? You're the the game been around forever. It's the press able in the gaming community. That's how you become that big of an east sport. I don't think format matters super much there. I really don't I. Don't think it's a major. Major factor I. Think Recognition with the fan base with the viewership rand awareness gets. There is out brand awareness all that stuff matters, and that's sort of thing comes with time so I don't know. I don't want to harp on this too much eight, because it kind of bums me out a little bit and the weekend ended on such a such a great match that has been going on for Overwatch League and everything like that. Then it was a bit of a roller coaster ride yesterday as they were doing those but Yeah, I don't know what we'll be looking at those the teams I have still have some questions like what are the? Best placement matches, or the qualifier matches to determine seeding just regular season matches. That are going to affect that as well or they separate. I mean there's there's still some questions here. House Vancouver participating if they're just constantly flying back and forth from Korea to Vancouver over and over again. aren't on schedule anywhere and their players don't advertise that they're on their team like. Like there's there's still questions here and we're just GONNA have to like you guys just buckle up and go along for the ride and we'll. We'll fill you in every Monday as we get more info but if you liked stage play offs, I think from this season just close your eyes to the rest of it and go along for the ride because These kind of environments do give you exciting matches right? That's something stage. Play offs didn't lack for right like a finals, Vancouver versus San Francisco both times was hype. It was great there. There's a lot of fun there and I personally. That's what I'm GonNa do is just kind of close my eyes, and take it for what it is, and know that it does matter the teams do care and watch it from that perspective, and with that in mind, and make the best of it because that's kind of what the Celsius. It's all we can do. It does seem like. Like you said this is trying to. It's like trying to half solve three different problems, and it doesn't actually solve any of them. In agreement that those problems exist to begin with right fifty. Yeah like why yeah I'm. I'm also struggling to like I kind of get that. The League format feels less impactful when we're seeing the same matches over and over again, but you're just rebranding the same games right. Yeah and they're a little bit fixing. That's something that got buried in this and we gotta make sure we pointed out. They did say they're opening up the opponents..

"I wouldn't before this even if I wanted a tournament seen more like what CDL has in here. I know a lot of people. Do share that opinion on want that I don't think this is going to be a good look for that. Even if you want it a this is the one thing blizzard this year, and amidst countless people hating every decision that's been made basically for the last three years. This is the one to me that just I don't get. There's other ones I didn't agree with. And that's not what this is to me I both. It and don't understand it. I don't understand its purpose. What's going on here? Most of the time I mean how many conversations and arguments didn't. And whatever did we have with I carry them and discord that spilled over into an episode of Thri things that I thought would be terrible to bring into the league and to me. Every one of those things would be better than this because they make sense that I just don't like him. I don't think they're the most exciting they give you the most return on your league as a viewer and things like that, but this one to me it just it seems so disconnected from what the League is what the identity is and I guess what I'm really asking for is is. Just it the power back in the relationship with their fan base. Can they go back to telling us what they want the game in the League to be? And then we get used to it because that's to me better than it. Changing every two weeks in a hero Beatles work this way. That way now, I'm just GONNA. Try to please everybody and you know what's happening is just nobody's happy. Right right like so. What Monte didn't like the League format and wanted it to change, so he's gone now. We he's like it's already over. The people that wanted to lead for matter still here. So. Can they have that or no? Because now we've lost those people and now we're going to lose people that don't want the tournaments to be you know. Tell us what you want. Let us get used to it and let us get a feel for it and. Stop Making knee-jerk reactions to things make them at the mid-season point, and in the off season, and that's it if you re really want to have the ability to adjust midseason halfway point no other time. Things need to be calm down, or it's just going to be an absolute chaotic mess and that's a little bit what we're going to be forced into because of the quarantine, the coronavirus all that stuff is going to give us that so I just don't want to lean into it and I don't WanNa. Make the problem worse and it feels a little bit like that's what this is doing. If I'm wrong against people more excited and an ups of your ship goes away again next year. Great, it's fine like I'm not going to harp on it or whatever. But if I see, a team, missed the playoffs and another one get in based off of to two wins on their record. Tournament! Man The whole the whole playoff bracket to me is just going to have this huge asterix on it. But again I guess at the end of the day of to keep giving you the flip side of my own argument..

"Everybody has a very even opportunity sixty it's. You know every team should be getting into these tournaments so I guess we're maintaining the competitive integrity of the league because it's not like the bottom. Four teams aren't going to be, but at the same time we're not because when you look at the two brackets. They're not equal okay I don't care how good you are perceived to be or how bad you are perceived to be, who the other teams in their can be wiped out to take a look at this. Because this doesn't have to be something that works for this season or make sense for right now it's should be something that just makes sense period, okay and one team. Team entering a chance to walk away with three wins added to their record in bracket of seven teams, and the other teams have to walk into a bracket of thirteen teams is massively unbalanced. It's twice as big of a pool. So why aren't twice the number of wins? Being handed out in the region, it's or wins added to the record. I want that either because I don't want any wins being added to the record to me that just kind of like makes the whole season into a clown show like just just awkward, weird and records don't really have meaning anymore. And what are we? What how map in percentages the tiebreaker? Working in right, probably just not gonNA factor in at all, but that's just kinda how it all should be right like this can be for fun where all Kinda working in this imperfect situation of of Covid, nineteen quarantine and nobody can leave, and there was never going to be. A perfect solution here. Okay, it was just the season was always going to be a little awkward. A little bit weird. in this just feels like we're just throwing more into it Constantly getting more and more awkward changes in the middle of season like this to the way, the League foundational in fundamentally works the foundation of how you make it into the play offs. Isn't Great I just can't get behind this. You don't want to do that now. We did it for hero polls, and that was a different conversation, because the game was changing over watch was changing in the league needed to match it, or there was going to be this massive disconnect made it very difficult and very awkward to watch an. That needed.

"I murdered. And the game community. This is about as blasphemous it as it gets. I walked and play overwatch on a PC was an XBox controller. Oh, interesting. Interesting. I like this. So what I like never heard this. I've seen this because it's more comfortable for you, but it looks on the PC. Yeah. And if you're playing any any DPS what do you call hit scan? Yeah. You can't be successful with the XBox controller. Because you can't. You don't have that mouse sweep Ray. So I can't play any snipers. That's why the play tour burn, junk rat, or like what's her name Moya's? Yeah. As long as things they don't need a lot of accuracy allow like pinpoint sniping accurate. Yeah. She's so it works out perfect. And I've actually sometimes it's actually works better because I'm able to sidestep easier with the XBox controller than you are, with a I think a lot of a lot of gamers. Don't use sidestep as effectively. Thank you can with the with an XBox. No. You can't go ING deep. No, I love it. I was really big into PC games I played counter strike into stuff for a long time. But then PC computer just expensive. That's why everybody gets call yet because it's the investment is yet, and it's there forever. Basically need play all the same sort of game. Yeah. And even just that switch over because even stock in our friend, Mike airplane apex last night. And they're all we're all not that great. And there were like we wish we're playing on PC because Raleigh that much better. A little bit NPC. But it's just that the keyboard configuration is just so not in my hands. They like thing where no muscle memory for it. I have to spend so much time to do that. I kind of learned to play the piano, right? PC gamer will do you know what this game was supposed to be over? Why watch, I don't think I do. But maybe, maybe if you tell me I'll was this game. There was this game titan that they took like ten years to make the world of warcraft was on its way out, basically been around, so it's been popular for all the sort of thing. So they're like, what if we make a hugely crazy successful, Emma? We're basically like people have normal day jobs during the day. And if there's all sorts of things, but then at night, they go to like a universal thing, and they'll fight each other like wow. Because essentially, what it is, is, you are world of warcraft in overwatch feelers. There's two tanks and your healing everybody. Yeah, keeping it moving you're basically doing dungeon against another group of people thought about that, that makes sense because they just kept trying to make this game and try to make it useful. And eventually, they just scrapped all of it. And then we're like we can do team fortress sorta game with these same sort of characters from there. So it's like fascinating to be like, because they show this game Jeff Kaplan, who can. They all they show this game. Because the beginning they show these characters, and what's the story. What's going on the only let you in on anything basically so much in this game? Like when overwatch came out there were all these shorts for all the characters that, like, explained about who they are all them. Yeah. Right youthful in great blizzard, the most high resolution enemies. Time blizzard should be making movies compete against Pixar should be. But then, none of that story carried over until the game. None of it, and they just scrapped the entire premise of the game. They went people like this fun to fight. It's fascinating because it's even watching it like with the world of fortnight, only sorts.
