"President joe biden will be in california today to support democratic governor gavin newsom. A day before his recall election recall efforts came after the governor faced stiff criticism over the past year for his handling of the corona virus pandemic and other issues. it's been well funded and supported by big name. Republicans like mike huckabee and newt gingrich but polling earlier. This month showed new. Some would likely remain in office. Numbers from the public policy institute of california found that thirty nine percent of likely voters in the recall would vote to remove some but fifty eight percent would not not surprisingly those opinions varied by party with eighty two percent of republicans in favor of ousting newsom compared to just seven percent of democrats that polling data mart day major change from earlier this summer a uc berkeley pool. As recently as late july found that fifty percent of likely voters wanted to keep new some compared with forty seven percent who supported the recall. This month's polling found that larry elder still lead the pack of potential replacements for newsome. The right wing talk show. Host led the field at twenty six percent this month. Primary remind people why they were angry enough. For one point. Seven million people signed the petition in the first place. A quarter of them were independence. Democrats voted for him. Two years earlier. Majority of hispanics. Now want him out. I think the majority of people are going to vote to recall gavin newsom. And i think the majority and i think i'll get the greatest number of votes to replace it. The next closest candidate was former san. Diego mayor kevin falkiner with just five percent of respondents. Planning to vote for him. The only one in this race the experience who led our state's second largest city who brought republicans and democrats together to solve problems That's who i am known as a very pragmatic leader who gets results but newsome himself was still confident this

My husband. Guy was actually standing at the window and right in front of the pain of panes of glass, and he was focusing his camera in a downward fashion. "They've got her company Leiria Carter With ever 80. He begins company all boarding log this week. You'll see a whole lot of headlines about the fact that the extended federal benefits that have been placed for well over a year now due to the Covid 19 pandemic have run out. And this headline is my favorite. Amber. You're in this business, you write stories, you write headlines. Uh, it should be the flaw here. This is ABC News. Jobless Americans have few options as benefits expire. Hmm. Well, I can think of what options? What option? Or maybe about 10 Million options. There are 10 million Job openings right now, and they're just over seven million people who are still getting these extended $300 a week through the cares act, uh, extended unemployment benefits and I don't know Ted Cruz is is getting in trouble right now. He's getting attacked because he was asked about this. And what do you say to the seven million Americans who are about to lose their extended benefits, and Ted Cruz looked at their burdens that get a job? I mean, is it that I don't want to sound heartless or anything, but we have people who are out of work. They've stayed out of work for over a year. They're getting a ton of benefits from the federal government that is unsustainable. Can't last forever. We've got employers who were desperate over the holiday weekend. I went to a couple of restaurants and the service was and it wasn't the server's fault. They were working their tail off. I've been to those restaurants before. I know how many waiters and waitresses they usually have, and they don't got him right now. We need people to get out and get back to work. That's what keeps the economy going. Get a job. And if you just walk down the street in D C. You will see a sign on just about every businesses door begging for employees, and they're not paying minimum wage. They're paying like $15 an hour because they need people in there, stat. And I was a huge proponent of things like the stimulus package and some of the unemployment benefits earlier on in the pandemic, when there were people who legitimately could not go to work because wanted to, they weren't allowed to. Exactly their jobs were shut down. They weren't allowed to go work. We're at the point. Now The vaccine is widely available, uh, the pandemic. For the most part, I think most normal Americans agree is pretty much over by the by the original measure, at least because this is where you get into all of its reading. And there's other right right in terms of hospitalizations and most importantly, deaths. Absolutely. It has subsided. And so there's no reason why people should not be going out looking for a job right now, and in fact, there are so many people who Explicitly weren't looking for a job because they were making more money off government benefits than they would have if they had gone back to work. And, of course, the Biden administration and his extreme leftist Marxist allies in the Senate and the house like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria, Ocasio Cortez. They would say that the real problem here is that nobody can get back to work because wages are too low. Remember Joe Biden leading into the microphone? Pay them more right. It's very creepy where the federal government is now basically engaging in the negotiation president. This is not a collective bargaining situation, guys. Um, but it seems to have worked. Sadly, I say sadly, advisedly, let me explain. Here's the headline from Fortune. American workers now have the upper hand as employers rush to raise hourly wages. There has been determined major employers like Kroger Chipotle under Armour, Starbucks Jury Hotel CBS Healthcare, Other major corporations in America have determined that the only way they can really get people back to work as if they raise wages now. Well, that's great. That great. They're raising wages. That's good for American workers. When they go back to work, they're going to be making more money. Problems solved, right? Well, no, because let me repeat this. Kroger. When you go buy your groceries, you're going to be paying more for groceries. Chipotle. If you want a nice burrito from chipotle it you're paying more under armour. You like their shoes and their shirts. You're going to be paying more and on and on and on. That's how an economy works. The federal government has now forced the hands of these companies. They now have to raise their wages to bring people back off of the sofa because they're making a ton of money sitting on the sofa. And the people who pay those salaries. Are you the consumers? So this is basically the federal government in a way, increasing people's wages without ever actually having to get their tans dirty by raising the minimum wage or through other provisions. Inflation is going to be a huge I mean, it already is a huge problem. It's going to be an even bigger problem as this trend continues. And then we also have Joe Biden pushing these massive spending bills in the trillions and trillions of dollars. There's no doubt that Americans are going to be paying a lot more money for their basic goods and services over the next couple of years. NATIONAL REVIEW by the way, has a really good article. Breaking this down. The headline is the great reassessment and the present job imbalance, the imbalances that there are 10 million job openings. And just over seven million. Some estimates about eight million people who are looking for jobs. And because of that this reassessment basically lines up in a way where where rages wages will be artificially inflated to entice people to take these jobs, and then you will have to pay for it all, which, as you just said, ever increases inflation that actually has a ripple effect across the board, including with interest rates, including with a ton of other economic factors. And all of it brings us right back to the late seventies. Jimmy Carter economy. Thanks, Joe Biden. It's 5 52. Washington's mall..

Seven million people across the united states are going to lose their unemployment benefits today. Starting this is the the three hundred dollars a week. But we will start with a report from our bureau chief in hong kong james chambers in which i detect the hand of the show's producer a to rebelo who as regular distance will also be aware is a massive census. Node as james explains hong kong's current census might end up being an inadvertent measure of an imminent exodus. An army of volunteer fieldworkers carrying red messenger bags is currently knocking on doors. In hong kong and encouraging residents to complete the city's once a decade census as harried households worked their way through the form before next week deadline. One question will hit home. More than usual. Will you be in hong kong june. The second half of this year after a slow start every one of us in the city of over seven million people now seems to know a few friends preparing to leave for me. It's a mixture of national security law. Exiles and some opportunists making the most relaxed immigration rules in the uk. Canada and australia. The anecdotal evidence of this began to emerge last month. Just the school holidays. Were approaching in hong kong and the covert clouds were beginning to clear in the uk. They leave behind. Thanks to manacles. James chambers in hong kong. Well let's turn to our panel and we have learned by now not tempt the fates where ovid nineteen is concerned to even say out loud the phrase there has been a surprising recent decline in reported cases in the uk. And i for one shore hope. This continues is to acknowledge that somewhere. A mummified monkeys poor is twitching while case numbers did infact tick upwards somewhat yesterday that was the first increase in eight days of decline and still represents a startling drop off from circa this time last week lance. You still allow yourself to get excited boy. Any potentially good news cove. Nineteen is concerned. I think so yes. I think we are all desperate for good news. Which is why we really do want this to be a genuine decline and not some statistical witness and or indeed which may be the result of people not being tested because they don't want to find a positive result younger people in particular so my fear is it's a combination of those who are a little older in our years and being properly vaccinated and and younger people avoiding facing up to the possibility that they may have caught something because they have mild symptoms. And know they're not gonna get seriously ill daniele. We probably do have to bear in mind that almost by definition all case numbers throughout this thing have been underestimates because obviously the only recorded cases are the ones for which there has been a positive tests and has lance points out. They're starting to come back. Yeah, you had a couple days where we were north of 80% of 2019 Traveler numbers, and by the way, this was You talk about the bottom for the travel industry. And it was April in May last year. Just a zip oin to of comparison. Last Memorial Day weekend here, the Traveler numbers 3 973,027. That's from Friday through Monday of last Memorial Day. So just over a million people total. Then, as you mentioned you come to this year over seven million people traveling, so you know up seven full from last year's still below the 2019 numbers a little bit. But it's It's very clear to me that a ton of people want to travel. A ton of people are traveling. They have the means to travel as well. And despite all of the additional travel that we have, I mean, we have not seen a day with below a million people in a T s a checkpoint since March, 10th Okay, So it's been almost 34 months. Now that we've had million plus people million plus people going through checkpoints every single day and because of the vaccination rates that we have You're not seeing an increase in cases could they be declining faster? Yeah, they probably could be. But you're not seeing a resurgence of any kind of covert epidemic Because of all this traveling, you know, mingling across different parts of the country. It's not causing any uptick in cases nationally, so To this point. I don't think there's anything to suggest that this abates and as long as airlines can get their planes back in the air and higher up their staffs again and bring him back from furloughs. I don't see anything. Stopping this growth from continuing well. Their suggestion is that you could see 80% of the business travelers back by the end of this year. Don't buy that. You don't know. I don't buy it. And here's why they it depends how they look at it. They might get 80% of the business travelers back. I don't think they're going to get 80% of the business volume back. And what do you think people are gonna just say? Well, I don't have to go out to California. I could do that one meeting by a zoom rather than Spain. Five spending five grand to go out to California for the week? Yeah, I think the guy that used to have to go out to visit you know the plant in wherever you know. Four times a month was going out once a week. Once a week. You might go out once every two weeks or once every four because some of it could be done virtually now. Right, right. That makes sense. "Ear to declare your independence of your stomach. Yeah keep night. We were yacking with at the end. Daily bowtie squared okay and howard being in cottonwood. I'm not supposed to say that. Mr h at the end but whatever you know get off my butt man. It's hard. I know you guys get secret. Named whatever the hell anyway you know. Kita he's here in arizona amber trying to convince them to go to jack live. We'll get him to speak and give them what for and i. I don't know if who put the camping thing. It's like dirt and stuff but we'll see what happens there At the end you've been to jack up before have you gone. I have. I was there last year and i was just you know. I think the most important thing is that it tripled from around two hundred people to six hundred in the middle of a global pandemic spanish because of the pandemic. We were just talking about that. We think volunteerism is the fastest growing political movement on the planet popping. Up your there's vets popping up. There's the ones that exist tripling in size in the middle of a pandemic part of the new club of its big kinda gotta lotta subscribers and your cancelled. So i don't really size was not a thing with me. It was accuracy. Truth being correct in my assertion that i get to be left alone. I vote that you know. I gotta votto kavak. What what. so this. it's growing there is a lot of influence. There is a lot of participation. It's really starting to happen. You know a lot like when we started doing the tour like you pick the wrong. Worst time to god did i. I mean you know this is like the best time to be out in. Just kinda feeling. What's going on and rule america and the the bus we when we go to different places. We're not going to the large cities. We kind of avoid that you know. We're on the outskirts. Maybe some low community or town some local county guy bugging. Somebody emerged there to help. And i'm i'm really concerned about where this goes because this power this energy this understanding this rationalization of individual freedom and so on. I'm looking for it. The manifest itself in different places now. The free state project in new hampshire would scream. You know. we'll get your butt up here to new hampshire. Which you've gone you've spent time there. You're doing you know you support that. But now and i'm sure you'll keep spending time there but now you're in arizona. I'm going okay bob. Why whether i mean you know has a lot to do it. But you know i'm just you know what do you think it's gonna take for us to come together and protect each other without having to protect the of somebody being stupid you know. Reflect on all of this or if they're not being stupid and the government's being stupid how much obligation. We got the throwing ourselves in front of the tank for them. You know so. I'm just wondering how this is going to manifest itself in support of freedom as a as a philosophy a group or even a collective you know what we. What are we talking about here. why arizona go well. The reason for zone is i fell in love and so it's the ability. We see. Squared is now engaged and -gratulations arizona. Thank you thank you. Thank you zona. Is it someone that i've met. Make sure same person aren't i never know. So that was that was the impetus and part of it was that part of it was the weather and so i'm a member of the free state project and i do. My goal is still to to help free new hampshire by widely exposing illegitimacy and the criminality of government. But i've always said that. I'm going to snowbird it's And i'm going to you know Spend the winter months in a more favourable climate and so So that's kind of my goal and the second. Stay out of the three. The three states that i think we could free the easiest. There's like four states. I think that are prime to be the first states to go. And it's wyoming new hampshire idaho and arizona arizona's the biggest got over seven million people which makes it larger than someplace like wyoming with six hundred thousand people or new hampshire with one point three million people but got a fantastic. It's got to climb climat. It's got a kind of a history of liberty like the population here. Nobody's going along with this mask stuff in cottonwood where i live now. I mean there are some people wearing masks and everything but you know ninety percent of restaurants except that yeah. The major chains are leading you shop without the mask and even the major chains. They're looking the other way. You know a lot of cases. I mean there are some that are mask nazis. But there's you know there's a climate of freedom here. I want to point out that you know speaking of the free state project steel. We're talking about porcupine freedom festival coming up in june. That was hundred people last year this year. They're expecting two thousand. Plus two thousand these like. I said i think we are. I think the liberty movement is the fastest growing political movement on the planet. And it's been a beach ball that they've been trying to hold underwater. Start figuring out. How cool it is. They're trying to hold that beach ball. Awesome that's a good a good description. The i've seen it from a different perspective. I mean of course you know circumstances and happen and always been an advocate that those circumstances always happen. You just got to be ready. You gotta be principled. Gotta have good credibility the future's all about credibility who you believe and be ready for it because when the flood comes to be a common nothing you can do to stop it anyway. Well last year almost didn't happen now. Be the owns rogers campground. He's like hey man it cost me a couple hundred thousand dollars openness saying if i can't make my money back or do it. Why even do it you know. I don't need the money you know. I'm good and so i'm sure as hell not willing to waste it. So then when the free state project or voluntarist and the people in new hampshire. Look we'll help you will presell would get do it. And he was willing to work with them. I find him fork fast between pork fast and fork fast. Which is kind of a decentralized. Jack eloped pork vast kind of thing you know worth open. It will open. He made out okay probably a lot better than a lot of his competitors. So what happened. I saw going back atmosphere of pork fast. Last year is going back to the early days. When it was kind of a jack elope do own thing. Dang and we're not going to get in your way well. It was very successful so this year. They're going oh we want to keep that flavor a little bit a couple of dials that we're going to turn that kind of thing so we'll we'll see how that goes but it's going to get like the old days where it was a lot of people the people in the camp ground worthy of that you a sponsor from coke industries and get some heritage guy or bill. Well to get up there and be. I'll give a what bay say. I'd rather be at the. You know the fires in the crowd of. We're having fun over here so i don't know what the hell you guys were talking about. Then forecast happened well. This was the same thing the reason why we did jack. Lope is to demonstrate the decentralized. Nobody's in charge. Everybody is kind of thing. So this is good to see. And i think what you're talking about about exploding. Is you know it's time but.

The cost of vaccine inequality

"Of covid. Vaccinations is picking up in the us. More than eighty seven million people have gotten at least one dose still communities hit. Hardest by the disease are getting left behind. who are they. What's the trouble it's true that states are opening up vaccination to more and more people but black and latino people are still getting vaccinated at lower rates than white and asian people despite getting sick and dying and higher numbers from covid. I know you did some reporting on this with our colleague. Graphics editor amanda montanez. What states did you look at. So we broke down the data for five populous states with some of the worst covid outbreaks california texas florida new york and illinois. The data showed that latino people had some of the lowest vaccination rates proportional to their share of the population especially in california in texas black people in new york and florida are also getting vaccinated at notably lower levels. What's behind those trends. What's the reason for them. Well many states have age minimums for vaccination but black people have shorter life expectancy than white people on the whole so they are at higher risk of dying before they even reach the age. Cutoff and many black and latino households are less likely to have high speed internet and the time to spend online booking appointments. They're also less likely to own a car or be able to get the vaccination sites language barriers an. Id requirements also. Make it harder for some people to get their shots. Finally vaccine hesitancy plays a role in some communities of color for legitimate reasons. But more and more of those people are now willing to get a vaccine. The government and health departments could make it easier by lowering semaj barriers. Helping those most at risk. Make get their appointments and opening more community clinics.

This year we estimate that approximately more than thirteen point seven million people who are who would be in need of humanitarian assistance. And he had. Let alone for somebody who comes from the region. It's really heartbreaking to see the situation in syria and how this country now the people of this country the syrian people are facing oldest challenges and built situations mr. Do what can concerned people listening to this interview to help you. End until the people of syria to survive the ongoing conflict until some political fountain. Fighting as you like you said what is needed now is a ticket solution. And let's be clear about the end of the crisis is what everybody wants. Not only in syria but in the region and entire world people can make a difference. Everybody can make a difference. There are two types of interventions people can do first of all. We need to make sure that politicians apply pressure politicians who have influenced countries who have influenced governments influence apply pressure on all warring parties in in syrian factions to make sure that they put their weapons aside and sit on a table. Starting talking about t start talking about the best interest of the people. It's time to put the interest of the people before any other interest. What is more important now is. The people is the future of the syrian people and the future of syria as as a country. In addition to that of course until solution is found there is no alternative to that humanitarian support to the people as i said.
