Coming of Age During the AIDS Crisis

"New york city in the early nineteen eighty s. There was only one place to go if you wanted to do something to help. In the aids crisis an old brick townhouse on west twenty second street in chelsea when i came here volunteer nineteen eighty-four. It was a very different neighborhood. And i was different to. I'm trying to put myself back in my twenty five year. Old self shoes. I'm retracing my steps. And i'm retracing the steps of hundreds of gmac. Volunteers and staff like bill cook. So i'm here with bill cox in front of colonial house. Em which is a bed-and-breakfast on west twenty second street in new york city and it is nearly forty years. Since this was the headquarters of the game health crisis As a plaque on the outside of the building that notes that it's the i was the first permanent home of the game and tells crisis and bill. Maybe you can describe to me what we're looking at Now we're looking at a beautiful breakfast. That has window boxes flowers beautiful ironwork and it bears no relation to what it was like when i volunteer here. I mean the street was nothing like it is today so it was a lot of working class people and for people living in houses world houses that have been broken up that were single family homes in the nineteenth century. Broken up into single-room-occupancy. With bathroom a bathroom on the hall. That's right. there was a bathroom down the hall. It was a run down. Old ramshackle buildings. So i would i pass by here. I don't know how many times because i was frightened really to go to work to volunteer. I didn't know what i would do. I didn't know if i had any qualifications. I didn't know what what i would find. Really sort of terrified. And i didn't know whether who i would be seeing what i be seeing people people with as pwa's which of course that's what we refer to. When waste i started volunteering. So finally i worked up my courage. You know if. I'm not gonna do it. Who's gonna do

Is the Federal Employee Vaccine Requirement Preplanned by Big Tech and Big Pharma?

"Today. I guess it was today or yesterday. I heard that the biden administration. Which i don't take seriously as an administration but we'll just put that in brackets that they are requiring federal employees to get the vaccine. What what am i to make of this. I mean you're you're right to ask and it's all kind of coming together in a very I don't have evidence that it's all coming together in a plea preplanned way except knowing what campaigns at the very highest levels look like it's clearly a pincher movement right the one way or another. What my read is is a former political consultant. Is that the people who helped elect the biden administration. Whether it's big tech big pharma. Some combination of those bill gates You know had a deliverable and the deliverable was clearly seventy percent vaccinated and vaccine passports. And why is this attractive. You and i have talked about it. I warned everyone about it. In april i tried as hard as i can. And i have to say our warnings. Our conversations have borne fruit. Because i'm so sorry that youtube declaring you're trying to based on what you and i spoke about and i hope this conversation survives but when tech companies like microsoft which is one of the companies that has the contract have vaccine passports. They will be more powerful than any administration really. They'll be more powerful than nation states. So that's what they want and they weren't getting it right. There's been resistance Peop- i'm not anti vaccine but people have reasonably been thinking well unhealthy. I'm under forty year. I'm under fifty You know these are untested I'm not at a high risk category. I'm i've not willing. I'm going to wait in in wait till actual formal fda approval. "Joined by. Jim talent who has No stranger to election. But before i go to the question of jcp. Oh a to point out. jim in the last segment. I was asking people if they bought a car. 'cause the president last night said this. Let's play this for senator talent. President biden on buying a car. First of all good news is economy is picking up significantly. It's rational about it. The cost of an automobile kind of back to what it was before the pandemic all right. So senator talent. That's nuts callers have confirmed that's not so when the president is coherent. He's out of touch a mistake. Like that is kind of a bad mistake at george. H w bush not known what the price of milk is yes. Anybody was watching. I think most americans probably gave it a miss. He's focusing focusing on the production in the problem is the fed's increase the money supply over the last year. By what about thirty percents yes. It just added zeros. Which is the modern equivalent of printing money. And there's no way. The economy is going to increase production. Enough to cancel out the inflationary effects of that. And i just got regular callers. Call it in penn Ten thousand dollars more than a car. They bought the previous year with fewer miles. The president doesn't know. When do you think the last time. Joe biden bought. A car is senator talent. Oh probably what forty years ago. Not you know what. I don't know i don't know he did when he was in the senate but he hasn't for awhile and certainly not last few months. I mean my wife told me a couple of weeks ago that Here in saint louis. They were going to buy a car and they'd actually tell you they were increasing the sticker price sticker the sticker price not the price which i'm in my sixty four years. How to Juggle Your Photography Business and Your Day Job With Kevin Gilligan

"Not unusual in fact my guess is that fifty percent of the industry are made up of part time photographers and i don't think that has changed in the last thirty or forty years. It's always been that way going back to the very early film days. There were so many part photographers out there. That were primarily came out of the educational world. And we're teachers because teachers were often the summer it was logical connection to photograph during wedding season and there were so many photographers out there that we're taking advantage of that time to create some additional income so the challenge today is just the same as it was. Then it's finding balance kevin. What are some of the things you've found work for you to maintain your sanity and and balance when you're when you've got two different challenges like that and two very different careers You've identified a really really important question point There's the obvious in many parts to it for my perspective number one is. I think it's really important to get input and have a discussion with the people that you're close to around you if your you have a partner. You're married if kids. Whoever it is that is really important. Issue time wise to have a discussion with them about you know what are their needs. What is reasonable amount of time for you to be working on this. And i think you have to really do an assessment about you know what your ability to meet all your needs is if you want to keep those relationships happy and i do. It's very important to me that my wife is happy and my kids are happy. So i think about that. And i think that's really important And in terms of balance the funny thing is is that for me for targeted. Not like a second job. It's still some that i love and i'm passionate about. So it's i want to do. And i think when you have a full-time job and other responsibilities what i find is that you know some weeks. I'm doing a lot of work in photography and some weeks. Maybe i'm not doing any little kind of go with the flow with that and you know someone. Someone said to me kevin. How do you get all this one friend assistance all time. You know your your fulltime lawyer photography you know you do martial arts you other things. How do you get all of. And i say i plan things out weeks ahead of time and i give myself extra time to get stuff done and people don't respect my time and cancel on me. You know late or whatever then you might have to cut those people out you know. I have to be particular with my time. And i have to be you know not rigid but i have to stick to that and plan out so that i can do things and i think that kind of planning is really important

"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of acupunctures my life now in this episode. I wanted to discuss and this. This episode is focused on individual lose. Were middle aged so people. If you're forty oh somewhere around age bracket and older somewhere around that age and older. This is a podcast for you now. I'm not excluding individuals. Who younger. But i i just sort of wanted. His highlight individuals who are forty years of age and older who have never who've either never exercised before or exercise than stop for a couple of months. Try it again. Stop for a few months and then you have your resolution us every new use those same start an exercise regimen and then two three weeks. Am they finding excuses to stop. And i'm noticing as we age that tendency becomes more and more that case because we're aging noticing the we're getting a better understanding of the benefits of exercise but a shift about implementing. A reggie the keys. You have to stop looking for excuses because the more excuses and which you find create becomes habitual and before you know years gone by and you really haven't made any progress.

"I'm jordan heath rawlings. This is the big story david. Uk vetch is the entomology technician at the invasive species center. Hey david fellow. Can you start just for the folks like me who haven't really thought about this problem until it reached a critical mass. I guess what are these. Moths that we're talking about today. Well they're a moth that has been in ontario for a number of years now almost forty years now however a lot of people don't really recognize them more or see them too often until they get to these larger outbreak status. We have had about three or four Sort of larger outbreaks since nineteen eighty five nine hundred ninety one as well as in two thousand and two. They were all outbreaks over One hundred thousand hectares of defoliation to put some of that into perspective. One hectare is equal to about the same size as the soccer field. So that's a large area That has been defoliated by these gypsy moth species. It's a type of lep adopter or a type of moth and butterfly and this moth has come over from. Europe was brought over by a french scientist and he was basically trying to mate are native silkworms species With this gypsy moth in order to try and create a new species that can produce silk. So that's really what how the moth got here. And why became a problem is because that scientists at the moth got away from him and started many issues in the massachusetts area and is slowly expanded from there

Using Your Left and Right Side of Your Brain When Investing

"If all it took to be a successful investor was plugging numbers into equations. Full of greek letters. Then wouldn't anyone with a calculator be rich. It almost seems like the miracle gymnastics. You perform the worst. The result go read about that hedge fund run by a bunch of famous. Phd's and nobel prize winners. That blew up. I'm not saying the science of investing isn't important. You need math skills. What i'm saying is that there's also an art of investing like when i'm thinking about investing in a stock although listened to the company's pass earnings halls and read past quarterly reports and play with pass numbers. But then you need to make a guess about the future what my apple or zoom look like in five to ten years was my view of their management team how might their growth strategy evolve. Is there moat getting deeper and wider. The answers are totally subjective. And i've noticed the investors who really excel at assessing and judging the intangibles. Just use lots of common sense. They see things so clearly think so clearly. They also easily change their mind but don't change their mind easily. Which reminds me of the story about picasso. Have you heard it. It goes like this. Because i was sitting in a paris cafe when an meyer approached and asked if he would do a quick sketch on a paper napkin. Picasso politely agreed swiftly executed the work and handed back the napkin but not before asking for a rather significant amount of money. The admirers was shocked. How could you ask for so much. It took you a minute to draw this. No picasso replied. It took me forty years the longer you invest the more you realize that being good at investing has little to do with combing through mountains of data or spending hours crunching numbers to be good is blending science and art is hard data and soft data left brain right brain. Any artists will tell you that art is not knowing what comes next not knowing how the future unfolds you can never entirely no so the artist like the investor makes guesses. They might be wrong but they keep at it.

"Michael's with us in wisconsin. I'm michael how are you dave again. Just a quick question for you. I we salute you. All about a year ago left my job and punching their concert system. It's a four one. Eight plan is about sixty thousand dollars in it. You know you always recommend to roll that over when you leave or personal. I'm wondering if i should do that in leaving that plan. You lose the employer contributions which is about fifty percent so that'd be thirty thousand dollars. I'm wondering what the best movies i let it. Sit and exit. When i'm able to and the eligible to what you've aged fifty or and thirty years old and Or do i take that out and take a loss. Bested the 401k planet year old company does not vast. You're matching until you're fifty. It's a four one. Is you know but that just means after taxes. All that means Yeh don't vast. you're matching true. Yes correct that's asinine okay And it's how much money sixty thousand. That's the match portion Thirty thousand monday's okay. And how what's it invested in. I truly did. Oh jeez i don't even know what the breakdown is. They are pretty limited on what you don't get to choose your investments in that plan. Yeah how old are you the ones in thirty. But you don't get to choose the investments in your plan. Negative a state okay. Here's what's running through my head and then you can decide what you wanna do your hold now again. Thirty thirty thirty years old okay. So for twenty years you either are going to have thirty thousand dollars. Sixty thousand dollars underperforming sucking sixty thousand. Or you're going to have thirty thousand performing well. Yeah in good mutual fund about you were gonna go and i don't know which one's going to end up with more money is the only way i said do. The thirty thousand will double if you've got it invested at ten percent if you re if your mutual funds perform a ten percent which they should i will double about every seven years and so it would double three times twenty years twenty one years so it would go from thirty to sixty two Okay i can do this. Wait a minute it'll go from Thirty to sixty two one. Twenty two to forty okay. That'll be you're thirty thousand double three times one. Two three tops. That's okay now sixty. Let's say it's making you ain't at cast. What the stupid things making. I would guess i. I've looked at the evidence over the course of the last say forty years parole together. I think i came out with like a southern eight percent average so seven percent. It'll double every ten years. Okay so sixty would be one twenty would be to forty. It's exactly the same. Yeah okay. you're thirty will grow to as much as that. Sixty will grow if you invest it at ten percent greater versus seven
