Where Are the Suburban Moms?

"Hi, everybody. And welcome to the Dennis prager show. Suburban moms appears to be the latest group that the Democrats can rely on and the striking thing about that and it is striking. Is that they are moms, so if their suburban the odds are their married, married mothers were married women with children were a generally pretty reliable group for the Republicans. If it turns out, and I say if the data are not all in yet, but if it turns out that this is a reliable democratic voting group, the conservatives of the country, the people who want to keep America. Committed to judeo Christian and American values, the two systems that make up America. May I say just for the record, I have a book explaining America. Americans had explained America Christians had explained Christians Jews explained Judaism and conservatives had explained conservatives to the next generations for the last 60 years we wouldn't be in the trouble we are in. So I'm on that book still the best hope is so important. I don't mind saying it about a book I wrote. It's the book that most affected Julie Hartman, when she was at Harvard, and now she is truly one of the most important spokes of people for this country. Of her generation. It's cold still the best hope. And it shows this country is based on Athens and Jerusalem to put it in the way philosophers do.

Disgraced Comedian Jeff Garlin Wants Your Sympathy

"Well, gang, what's the best way to overcome being accused of being a brute on the set or someone who gives out long and unwanted hugs to female cast members? Maybe even spends the entire shoot walking out vagina jokes, well, I think they kill your character off, you know what you do? You make up a fake diagnosis for some pity. That's right, folks. Former star of the goldbergs and comedian Jeff garlin who left the long running sitcom last year because of all those misconduct allegations, has now revealed he is suffering from bipolar disorder. Yeah. 60 years old, never knew. You know? I know, I knew he was suffering from the disease of being an asshole. I knew that many years ago when he decided to make me a part of his act at the comedy store during one of his sets and I threatened to punch the shit out of him. And then Pauly Shore had to run out from behind the wings and please tell me to calm down and my manager at the time who was next to me said AJ, don't do it, don't do it. You can't beat a comedian who's holding a microphone. I said, Howard, I'm going to beat him with his own microphone. Jeff garlin said, buy polar is a mother. Sometimes it's just too much to deal with. Said that late Tuesday night. But I'm doing the best I can. The first time I've opened up about this. Yeah, that's pretty interesting. So let me ask you a question. When you try to lean on, not try. When you leaned in for a kiss and a cup of feel what that beautiful female author friend of mine is that part of the bipolar illness,

Bitcoin Hits 3-Month Low

"Bloomberg today published a piece that's sort of the closest to the Bitcoin is dead that we've seen this cycle. It starts, what is Bitcoin for exactly? While that's been a tricky question to answer in years past, it's safe to say that right now, it's definitely not for preservation of wealth. The shiny new thing is down 60% year to date against the grimy old thing, AKA the USD. More losses may follow as the fed hikes with the banks next installment doom at week. Bitcoin's collapse makes for a decent new entry in the tulip mania archives. Since speaking last November, it's down 73%. That's quite a train wreck. With delicious irony the same week it registered a record, the fed warned of perilous plunges for risky assets should the economy take a turn for the worse. As the U.S. Central Bank responded belatedly to inflation, Bitcoin tanked. You can almost taste the schadenfreude, but still, they're not wrong about Bitcoin tanking. We slid to a three month low last night of under 19,000, with eth falling even further, hitting just around 1300. Now I think many believe that the merger is going to be a buy the news sell the event type of thing. But the fact that it slammed into this horrific macro environment really drove that home.

AJ Reminisces About His Good and Simple Childhood Days

"Got me thinking about the old age and how promising the future look when we were kids. I'm 60 years old, so I'm talking to you guys who are my age. It was such an innocent and pure time. We had our problems, of course, but by and large, it was an innocent and pure time. The other night I was thinking about how easy and simple life was back in the day and it made me miss so many things from my youth. And I know you can sympathize and empathize with me. You can laugh about it all you want. And I understand not all of us recognize America's recent past as great, but it sure was great for a lot of us. Remember when the person at the bank knew your name? Remember when the gas station gave you dishes and glassware for opening up an account or, you know, getting gas there all the time and they knew you and the more gas you got, you got glassware. Am I the only person that had this happen to them? Can't be. Remember Christmas club accounts at the bank weren't they great? I don't see many families going to get ice cream anymore. Is that still a thing? We used to go to friendlies or the southern giant called jans. Just, I don't see it anymore. I remember a hundred kids in the street playing kickball. Stickball. Ring Olivia. Kick the can. I remember stuff in ten packs of tops baseball cards into my pocket and flipping them between classes. I remember playing spin the bottle in 7 minutes in heaven at parties so we can make out with girls we were really enamored with at school. We used to go to the Woods and maybe go to a nearby swamp and just examine it all day. Sometimes we'd catch frogs or try to hit birds who took flight with sling shots. I know it sounds bad, but you want your kid doing that instead of meeting a guy in the park who's handing up pills that have fentanyl in them, don't you?

Ghislaine Maxwell Gets 20 Years

"Let's talk about a creepy pedophile who absolutely got caught red handed and will now do the time. Nearly 6 months after Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty of 5 charges, including sex trafficking in a minor. It was time to return to court and discuss some sentencing. And Ghislaine is now going to be sentenced for 20 years for her role in the Jeffrey Epstein bullshit. Last week, it was said that the 60 year old Maxwell and her legal team were filing documents saying there was unfair for delaying to serve as sentence that should have been reserved for Jeffrey Epstein. You know, had he not been found on a live in his jail cell back in 2019. They said, look, how about 51 and 63 months or less than 6 years? And I think people got tired of delaying constantly saying I was just following orders that kind of shit. Prosecutors don't like that schtick. They were looking for a sentence of between 30 and 55 years, but look, she got 20. And she put out a statement to you all the victims. I'm sorry for the pain that you experienced. It is my sincerest wish to all those in the courtroom and to all those outside this courtroom that this day brings a terrible chapter to the end to an end. And to those of you who spoke here today and those of you who did not may this day help you travel from darkness into the light. Yet she continues to protect the rapists. What did they do for her in the end? Nothing. Why didn't she talk? She look, she needs to sing before she gets suicide. She's screwed, either way, so might as well bring the predatory men down with her. I mean, there's no way she didn't keep tapes and lots of receipts stashed someplace in one of the safe houses around the world. I know I'm gonna get to that eventually. And really, I guess if there's any justice here, it's that the lane got more than the 51 month she was hoping

"This. I think social media is also helping us a lot where a lot of black and Hispanic voters otherwise would have been just kind of listening to propaganda radio or television, but they're exposed to new and exciting voices like Candace Owens or Brandon Tatum, where they're getting the other side of the story for the first time, maybe 20 or 30 years ago. It wouldn't have been as possible. And also, unfortunately, the dominance of Democrats destroying these cities. It's now 50 years, 60 years. They've had their turn, and there is that kind of narrative that is seeping in, such as look at Detroit before and after Democrat rule. I mean, in certain, you've seen those pictures where almost Nagasaki has done better post atomic bomb than Detroit under Democrat rule. And then finally, and I love your thoughts on this. I think Republicans are doing better at candidate selection and asking for the vote. It's almost like there's this new sense of confidence thanks to president Trump where we're going to go and ask for the vote, such candidates like Herschel Walker and others. What are your thoughts on all that? Well, I think first of all, I think you're right on and I think you put your finger on a very fascinating part of this. Kevin McCarthy set out in 2020 to recruit candidates and people thought the House Republicans would lose 25 seats. They gained 15. That's a swing of 40 from what the experts thought would happen. Well, the 15 they gained every single one of them was either a woman or a minority and in some cases, as with two Korean American women in Southern California, a woman and a minority. And McCarthy talks constantly about base broadening and he talks about this opportunity to expand the brand, not just to focus in a narrow way on the old base. All of this was made possible by two things. One was Trump's effectiveness in communicating and in delivering the fact is you look at the price of gasoline two 35, I think, when Trump left office, you look at the price of gasoline now, you look at the price of food when Trump left office, you look at the price of food now. You look at the border getting controlled under Trump. You look at the chaos and the border now. You look at the crime rate under Trump. And Trump, I think, by now, would have very aggressively gone after these George Soros elected district attorneys who are refusing to prosecute

Will Weekend Mass Shootings Force Congress to Act?

"It looks like a bunch of hearings, Jake, but I want to start with your quote of Chris Murphy yesterday talking to my friend Jonathan capehart. I don't think you got 60 votes for his bill. I think it could get 60 votes for a stop order bill. The severe threat order of protection, I just don't know. I don't know what's in Murphy's Bill, but it's not narrow enough, has anything changed with two three more shootings. You know, there was one in Orange County after ten miles from where I used to live at a Taiwanese Chinese church where a 60 year old man shot up 5 people. There was one in Houston, of course, the awful one in Buffalo. Does anything change? No. There's no legislation here. I don't think I really don't think unless I'm looking something that will get 60 votes. There have been there have been efforts as you note to boost the reporting system for people with mental illness and things like that. That has not gotten the attention or the energy from anybody. So we're kind of in this position. I mean, Chris Murphy was deputized earlier this year, I believe, maybe it was last year. So work with Republicans to see what he could get ten votes for anything to get a background check Bill or something more and he's not been able to find 60 votes for anybody. So that's kind of where that's kind of where the status of the situation.

Weekend Mass Shootings Dominate News Coverage

"Killer in laguna Woods, you may not know about. Yesterday afternoon, a 60 year old Asian man, that's the only description I have from the Los Angeles Times, stood up in a luncheon honoring a former pastor at a Taiwanese Christian church in laguna Woods, which is not far from my old home in Orange County. They were welcoming back for a luncheon, Jerry Chen, excuse me, I want to get that Jerry Chandler's the fellow gave the quote the former pastor's name is here somewhere I can't find it, but Tom Kramer, who is the head of the presbytery of Los ranchos. Again, I used to be a member of this Presbyterian. Kramer did not know if the pastor was harmed in the shooting, a pastor clobbered the gunman as he tried to reload with a chair and a bunch of the so called older victims. They were all in their 60s. Those not shot tackle them in hog tied in, but it's a 60 year old Asian man is the killer there. In Harris county, Texas, the more traditional weekend shooting, two young men shooting at each other, wounding three and killing two at a Harris county flea market. At 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. So guns are everywhere, The Wall Street Journal, however, wrote about the particular evil of the buffalo shooting. There is a culture of white supremacy in the United States and people need to understand not large, but it definitely evil and it's dangerous because it attracts the unbalance like this 18 year old this was pure evil said Erie county sheriff Garcia in an app summary of the mass murder at a cyber market in Buffalo writes The Wall Street Journal. That appears to be racially motivated. The alleged shooter 18 year old Peyton gendron, the last time you'll hear his name on my show, is another young man possessed by inexplicable hatred.

"The mason minute. With Kevin mason. It's Mother's Day and I don't often admit when I'm a bad son, because I try not to be a bad son, but I think today I officially fit the ranks of being a bad son. Now with that said, the reason why? I thought Mother's Day was next weekend. I realized there's this thing called Google, and there's this thing called a calendar, and you can go look and it'll tell you when Mother's Day is. But I automatically, for some reason, thought, well, it's got to be next weekend. It's the second Sunday of the month. Although I realized, well, the first of the month was a Sunday, and so therefore, may 15th is the third Sunday of the month. So I was wrong. So I didn't send my mother a card. I will call my mother as I do each and every Mother's Day to talk to just say hello and kind of spend time with her. I know if I were a better son, I'd actually go visit her, but it's one of those things we've lived apart for so long. It's just easier to talk over the phone rather than see each other because it's both tiring and expensive for both of us. So I'll say hello to mom and that's a great thing. She's only been my mom for over 60 years, so but I'm a bad son today. I'm going to own up to it. I'm going to put it out on the Internet for everybody else to hear. Of course, luckily my mom's not on the Internet, so she won't know a thing.

"First of five as I mentioned Over the course of his career with the Yanks. He will finally be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Tonight. And I know that there are some haters out there who just hate the Yankees in general who dislike Derek Jeter. I think a lot of that is just sort of Envy. I think most people like and respect Derek Jeter, his farewell tour. He even got a standing ovation in Boston, right. That should say a lot. He played hard. His classy He represented the organization extremely well. And Some of the haters saying, Well, you know, look, he was a good leader, and he was a big face for the Yankees, and he was clutch in some ways. But did he really have a Hall of Fame career? Will he finished his career with a batting average of 3 10? Not just a member of the 3000 hit club more than 3400 hits. Over the course of that career. Of course, he's a no brainer Hall of Famer in my book, and I've got his T shirt jersey that I wear all the time. In fact, this past weekend I wore the Derek Jeter jersey out and about Was at a restaurant. And the waiter came up and said, You know, Derek Jeter has eaten here a few times. That place is absolutely awesome. Um, good basic Italian food. There's a second one in northern Kentucky called Temporal. Assis was right on Dixie Highway and for Mitchell. And a little bit more specialty stuff, especially process and wood fired pizza, and it's really great as well. Okay, check that one out. I'm always up for this good Italian now can't turn down good Italian. See, I tried to stay away from because of what I get on. That's interesting. What you said there because thinking about thanks how money Catastrophes have gone on in in 60 50 years, she I mean, we've had one with a pandemic and all that there's been things like that food shortages, worker shortages, people not coming. People staying in and through all those years, you still find a way to stay open tip of the cat. "Back America, too. You were talking to the United States Senator Marco Rubio rejoining that conversation, Secretary of State the set by the president, but they're set out of the Oval Office and out of the West Wing. What we need to be more concerned about is the fact that you've got a bunch of people inside this administration who have a very different view of this whole situation when it comes to China or late comers to and it's not just because they're from the left. There are plenty of people from the right That are wrong about because in their mind all the free market says that it's cheaper to buy pharmaceuticals from China, and we shouldn't disrupt that. That's that's the free market. That's not the free market. That's that's our free market versus Mark Angeles policies on their part in which they are able to control the means of production. They're able to undercut our competitors. Of course you can't produce pharmaceutical, the United States. We make it hard on our end, and then they come in, and they undercut it by subsidizing the company so that they knock all of our capacity outside, so we lose our industrial capacity. You got a lot of people still haven't figured that out, particularly in the finance sector out of Wall Street. And they get more to the Democrats now than to the Republican Party for a reason. So I'm very concerned about that. And the influence that would ultimately have because I could tell you what those voices are gonna be saying when a moment of potential conflict comes to China, and that is Whatever you can not to have conflict because it's going to cost us billions of dollars to the economy. You saw it reflected in the statement made, but by that spokesperson that decided to me earlier in this interview. Center. This is Asian American Pacific Islander month. There are a lot of Chinese Americans who tell me who are great American citizens. They're worried about him. Era of McCarthyism towards them. How do we both pursue Aggressive defensive Taiwan and of American interests abroad of human rights in China without engendering any kind of blowback in Chinese American citizens or residents. It is the government residence. First of all by acknowledging that the number one victims people who have suffered the most under the Chinese Communist Party of the Chinese people that especially the ones who have come here as a result of his fleeing it. Number two by remembering that we have a long history of relying on exiles and refugees from these sorts of regimes, Tonto better our country. I think about the community. I come. You know, this country has had a firm policy for the most part. Against the Castro regime in Cuba for over 60 years. But it warmly has welcomed the participation of Cuban exiles in American politics. So we were able to separate Cuban exiles who fled and were opposed to Castro. On the actions of the Castro regime, and the same is true here. We have to be able as a nation to separate the actions of a communist regime in Beijing from the people, particularly those from the people that sleep That situation over there, and we have to do it while the same time acknowledging that there are students in our universities, particularly at the graduate level, who are members of the Communist Party of China, who are members of the military if China and are sent here for the purpose? Stealing trade secrets and bringing them back. Some of them do it willfully. Some of them do it because they're being leveraged because they're being promised things back home and maybe even threatened and summer here deliberately for that purpose. We have to go to deal with that without going around about the same time acknowledging that a Chinese American is an American. I want to close on our hemisphere since you brought up Cuba Senator, you've always been very good on this in Colombia and Brazil, two of our allies with conservative governments. There have been riots and conflicts in the last week in Brazil. 25 people were killed overnight in one of the Father was and in Colombia. A couple of dozen people have been killed in demonstrations. What about the United States to do about these regimes which are under pressure right now and further? What should we do about vaccine patent? Protection or waiver for our friends in Brazil and our friends in India who are on the front lines of the virus fiasco pandemic right now. A couple points. I think both of India and Brazil, we should do everything we can to be helpful. Obviously, its critics in the United States we now have sufficient supplies. In many cases, you know, you're gonna walk into a CVS the other day, you could have walked right up and have a vaccine. I went in there to get something else. But No appointments. I mean way have that availability and so I'm glad to see that their efforts being made to sort of further that particularly in India. That situation is truly catastrophic and our partnership with India gonna be critical to the future of the Asia Pacific region. Result, the largest country in Latin America, in the largest country in the world and an important ally for a number of fronts. In the case of Columbia. I would say to you what I said yesterday, people who've asked about it. What's happening in Colombia's not organic, and I'm not telling you every person on the street doesn't is comes from this, but there is clearly And undeniably an orchestrated effort on the part of the of these narco trafficking Marxist guerilla groups faded by their international Marxists supporters to destabilize A democratically elected pro American government. This is a fact we know this. We know this has been building and I don't think it's a coincidence that you're seeing these actions. In fact, I think it's being burned on By these elements that seek to undermine and destabilize the government of Colombia. Purposes of leading T o chaos and either willing next, either winning the next election or seeing that government can crumble and be replaced by one that's Ah Ah, mark this one and more friendly to Venezuela, Cuba. International Marxism. So what should the United States and in particularly President Biden say and do about Columbia right now. I think we should say that. You know, President Duke, a democratically elected president. He's a great ally of the United States. Columbia, Columbia go down right. Columbia becomes anything close to what Venezuela has become. Art are hemispheres, and a lot of trouble in America's gonna pay the price. We don't have a stronger partner. In the Western Hemisphere than Colombia. They're both capable and willing, and we need to step forward and say that and we need to step.

Yes, but it was there and not only that, but I also got a chance to see the portions of the film aside some of the songs that those clutch was put into the film score. That was a revolutionary film. I don't know that any film about Hollywood have been made that that showed its darker side. Exactly, you know, speaking my coat now. That is something that I think if you look at it day Is, unfortunately for train. What's going on with the knight industry is as we speak, Yes, but the theme song was kind of a bittersweet ballot, and that's what I think it kind of tied up the whole package. Yes, it did. "Interest it's interesting that's a terrific tribute willie and Has been mentioned several times. You are one of the best ventriloquist out there. Ventriloquist him seems to be having a little. Bit of a comeback. You're still one of the main Examples of how to do it. Right on television. I did want to ask in the last twenty years it was i you did. That show was or anything else that you've done that was You'd like to share with the audience or you're especially proud of we've done Down through the years you know. We've done a whole bunch of things with diana ross supremes years ago at the hollywood hollywood boy hollywood bowl no no not the hollywood bowl there. There's a particular show chill place in hollywood here. Wade saturday night Somebody would host the show for an hour and we did it with the supremes. Supremes Costa this show on that show with the jackson. Five and stevie wonder and sammy davis junior. That's terrific people to work with the tonight show with johnny carson. When he was doing tonight show he would take some time off. Sometimes and i guess. Tolstoy would come on and sammy davis junior was guest hosting a particular night. And i was able to do it tonight. Show but sammy davis junior lake. Tahoe sammy yes. I was working with sammy. Helping lake tahoe and he came in addressing when i used to. Hey i'm doing it tonight. Show next week you wanna do. That should go for walks neat. So that's how able to to get that particular thing. But i wasn't able to i. I like working in show business. I worked with all kinds of actual dolly parton like glen campbell. You know a whole bunch of people get dimension dimension aloe folks you've had this career willie. I hope you take pride in what you've accomplished because it's very impressive and you're like it. I was just going to say even though you got a chance to work with all those celebrities you're celebrity and so you fit in naturally with those the names that you're dropping willie tyler and lester could fit in that list and just as easily as anything else that was a real tribute to your success. As a whole by the way they act. I was trying to think before. Gone rickles don rickles. no don rickles. Did an album called. Hello dummy holds ho- but he did. He did it years after. I title but don rickles but he was walking still sometimes when the internet. You'll find hello dummy. But you see don rickles ask hello. It's good that right well. it's good. We explained that to the Podcast audience now. I want to enter a show. Have everybody listened to one of your sets but before we get to that. I had one last serious question as a ventriloquist i've seen on. Tv and met personally. Many of them and a lot of those ventriloquist will have multiple ventriloquist figures. In other words they will use several. I hate to use the word. Dummies onstage because there are times. They're smarter than the ventriloquist but the ventriloquist many of the people out there now have multiple characters. But you have stayed and sharpen your skills and your wit with lester. Was there ever any thought of doing multiple characters or you just so comfortable and have such a good friendship with lester that it worked. When i first started out i was trying to. I would try to get Another character. I would try to put an abbot matter of fact i bought a i guess a. I bought a figure the chocolate figure. One time and I never used it. it's fat until it disappeared. I don't know what happened to. But it's i've never used it so it got to a point where i said what i'd like to do is put all the energies sort of watering down. The the characters i put all the energy into leicester so people he has a personality. Now so people know leicester so it's not like his personality as watered down into other characters. So it's just the energy is put into leicester that's my popping people know him. And i alluded to when i was chatting with leicester a few minutes ago. He has his own celebrity his own fame. And i think that comes to that. Focus that you put on that relationship. That character and i was just curious if you ever dabbled with others in it makes perfect sense and it paid off that you've been able to create this like you said this personality that lives today. I mean other people you know other people it. It works for them you know. And they're comfortable with that. But i've always been comfortable with just Just having lester in the 'cause i can just prouty energy into everything incident that ended up particular character. Well you've done a great job. You've had an amazing career. We really appreciate you being on the podcast and sharing it with this before. I share a comedy clip of you. In leicester is there a way that you and leicester could lead us out of this podcast with a little bit of a song. She the The song let's come over here and that's let's come in over there at the computer. Yeah he'll-he'll yoyo push push up. We got scott. Wants to do a little chubby. "One can make the to sit down and think about what happened yesteryear. What happened that. you know. Years before music connects with people's emotions. And that's why So many people like to sing and enjoy singing. And what's interesting is that you were a very talented are very talented singer. But you are a tremendous stand comic I know lester you had some great jokes in those days. The punchline and he used to he was straight man. I was the guy that did remember you being funnier than willie. That's good will i. I had one more question for leicester. If you've got a minute leicester back back in one thousand nine hundred eighty five you me and willie work together on a fox forty tv special a one hour show and we had you and willie as the host of that show. We had some very big names. Like dave clear and dana carvey on that show but what was interesting. Lester is i let you drive my pink cadillac as part of the opening of this show. Have you done a lot of driving. That was that was first. I and last time. Well it you can see why it's my last time i got to tell you. We do have all that on tape and it was really exciting in a little scary for me as the owner leicester i gotta be honest. Have you driving my car. But i was the big car. Yeah that was. That was a big pink convertible. It was an amazing car bed. You did a great job driving it and even though it was a little little sketchy you're a little heavy on the break There was no damage. And i just want to say thank you but i did. I was able to stop though. Oh yeah oh yeah you did in fact if you remember you kind of fun forward and willie had to save you. Yeah got right in front of the club almost late. that's why we'll say It was a real honor having you and willie as emc of that show. It was our first of three tv shows. We did too short series. One for abc nbc. But it was the fox one hour special having you is the professional. Mc really added some validity in in style in class to that first production. So thank you. That was a fun night. You don't we really like that club because this idea you know. The club was downstate. Well it's sort of hard to explain but it's down. It was downstairs basement. Level rate shows at the shows. People would go upstairs. We had a little magic stuff going on right and people go up there after the shows when we would hang out a also and But place to be. I always thought in my personal experience visiting entertainment venues. I always appreciated it more if i had an opportunity. If i was willing to hang out. I could meet or chat with or thank an entertainer for the previous couple hours of entertainment and the idea. The magic cat was not only a place to hold the audience before the show On a to show night but after the show's celebrities like you and pat paulsen and soupy sales and and later on Bob sag cool. Leno could go up actually meet. The audience and the audience would be so appreciative of that opportunity. To maybe get an autograph or say thank you or just meet people that they really were impressed with on stage. And i'm glad you remember those days. I is again. I can't emphasize enough. How important it was to the history and the success of the club to have an active front. We'll having stature made a difference. He was from detroit michigan right. Yes because i remember 'cause 'cause i met him a few times and then he knows me. I know him speaking like doing a documentary. We're working on it so eventually that'll be out who is like a spend years in the making but we'll it'll be out eventually doesn't have a title so we can tell people. Oh hello dummy. Oh hello dummy. Okay it but you know What's what's the mr excitement. What's his name. He passed away a man. I can't think of his name. Oh boy that's okay. Anyway but we gotta sizzle sizzle reel and people can go and see the little excerpts from it. It's a hello dash dummy dot com. Okay well everybody out there in the podcast land. Hello dash dummy dot com. Be sure to check it out. I will get it. It's a nice because it's a lot of entertainers that if we work with and they they talked about. I can't wait. And i want the pop. Cast audience to know that we do have some terrific material by you and leicester at the end of this interview to Share with them so with they are going to be able to get a chance to hear some of your terrific comedy. Now you were as we've mentioned a couple of times Huge entertainer to have come into the club in the eighties and nineties but I did sell the club and move on in the last twenty years. I know you've continued to do something. Like twelve different television appearances. And i know you're still a hard stage comic now. The last thing i saw was in two thousand nineteen i think it was You did a show you were a host or regular on. The kids are all right. That sound right now. We're on that particular show episode on that shows like the one episode but but no. It's sort of strange because that show the kids are alright. It takes place in the sixties. It took place in the sixties. One of the kids in the house whole he was a ventriloquist and i and i was his mentor. I mean he he would watch me on t be in the sixties he was he would watch me on tv and he would always walk around in some episodes with this little character and he'd always talk about willie tyler and lester. Wow that's right it and it lasts for like the last season of this show. They had me come on and What happened with his brother. What the vegas and somehow or another his brother. Love's got lost his his brother's chocolates figure you know. And so what happens. Like they finally said the pig into their house but it wasn't as big as my lesser. They got a mixed up less.

"Mercedes in the back of it somebody was driving around and then celebrated was was watching drive around in the car. You know and let the lesson says it's must be mercedes and unless says it is mercedes and then a situation where the land you know. We cut back some of it away. I was on the television show yet. Technology at its best. That will soon you're already is. We've explained to the audience. You're already a celebrity. You're already doing lots of television appearances. In then i opened my club in nineteen eighty rather quickly. I brought you in because i like variety acts. I was one of the few clubs that didn't do just straight standup. I like variety acts. And i also like people that my dad liked. He kinda of gave me his sense of humor in you. One of those people in the early eighties You started working for me. Do you remember those days. I remember yes. I remember that used to stay at a at a hotel across the highway. There will still there right. Used to walk to walk on the on the past. They're getting onto the under the freeway to get to the club so they didn't drive over walker right and and nobody would have known because leicester's in a suitcase so you just look like another tourist with a suitcase. That's true and what walking under an underpass they used to be like can't used to hang out there and They and they were. They were played some some areas someplace there would be playing music and the kids hung out the and listen to that music and too many kids were hanging out so they start playing What do you call seventy music playing classical music and indicate to hang out a bit and hanging out there anymore. Remember that because that was one of those things that took time over a couple of years to change in an old sacramento in you were at the club so much you were able to recognize those differences that's A good memory. Willie also what i remember. It's like you remember the new year's eve chills. Oh yeah okay. You did too easy to new year's eve show. Yeah we would do a seventy at nine o'clock that was new york new york new year's and then we did at ten o'clock show that ended at midnight when we had a big california new year's bash. And we were the the only people we knew of that. We're able to celebrate new year's eve in one night right right. And i liked what i liked. What you did was like. You would hand out the noise makers but you would tell. Tell the audience me before the before the celebration before. The clock Midnight or whatever to look you say do not go to horns or anything like that until the countdown while audience. They were there they agreed. Well i'm going to. I'm going to correct you a little bit. Because it was kind of a fun part about those shows. It willie is right. We would pass out noisemakers during the new year's eve shows and i would go on stage and explain that we have some really talented headliners to entertain them for new year's in we don't want to interrupt their material with noisemakers and horns by but what i would do every time i was on stage is emc. Because i don't matter. I would let them low their brains out on their horns and make all the noise they want. Let them get it out of their system and then introduce the act. They gotten used to it. Yeah yeah yeah a chance to make some noise and not interrupt the show right reason. I remember this. Because i did a show downtown. La one time it new year's eve someplace downtown here and somehow another somebody handed out the noise makers doing my act almost like ten minutes to twelve minutes to twelve. They start handing on and they started doing. That's why that's why. I remember that stuck in my mind because they didn't do it right and we did. Well that's interesting we you know we've been talking now for awhile willie and i'm sure everybody's wondering that's in our podcast audience. Is lester at home. As lester around. Got year phones on. Yeah yeah only. Add her long time along. I not what the land rock sailor said. Well i am so happy to hear you again lester. It's been many years. In fact. I have a couple of questions for you. It has been over twenty years since. I've seen you and you look great. What's your secret around the judge. The just daily for what that would what what pakistan in those. Those would definitely aid you. Wouldn't woodpeckers in termites. Will lester you look amazing for your age and i gotta tell you. Thanks for performing at my club so many years ago. But i was thank you for having me. Well it was our pleasure. But you know you've been working with willie. And i know he's still in the room so i don't want to be indelicate but you've been working with willie for over fifty years. How's that gone. You like working with him. I mean i could've could've gone out and and on my own and donald line line act right right. If you went out on your own it would be a meymac. You're absolutely correct. I was just hoping that after fifty years you know like some married couples and some business partners things. Get a little edgy. You guys seem like great friends we would but having having like We don't see each other that much and unless unless we're talking have onstage or something like that we don't hang out. Oh you'll see nerve. That's the secret of a little space in between well. That's really smart. You know you really deal saying issue. I'm gonna have to try that. That sounds like it kept your friendship strong now. I was asking willie back in his motown days. He got a chance to experience a lot of singers and then later in his life he started singing. But i know the europe pretty talented singer as well. Do you prefer him. Oh utah him. And oh i was wondering what you preferred.

"We have a terrific show for you. I know i say that every week. But this one's extra-special one of the top comic ventriloquist in the world ladies and gentlemen. It's willie tyler willie so great to hear from you. We haven't chatted in a few decades. But you have always been one of the special acts that we were so lucky to work with because you were already quite a celebrity when you came to laughs unlimited and we got a chance to kind of take advantage of that and have you in many shows and then we did the tv show. We're going to talk all about that. But highly willy. How you doing. Hello doing great. Yeah i remember. I remember the first time coming up there at the old sacramento. All fact they call it. Yeah old sack. In a way that you helped establish us as a national comedy club having people like you and pat paulsen soupy sales This was i mean. We had a lot of celebrities like leno. carvey and seinfeld but they were not known at the time You were one of the few acts that we brought in that was already famous was already a known act and That was really a big deal. Dass but let's give the audience a little bit of a background. You've got your starting detroit right. Didn't need to write off the age of ten. I started in detroit. Now i was gonna ask you. What had you. What made you pick ventriloquist. We we had just gotten a television that black and white tv but the rabbit ears back in those days and seen gentleman on tv it. We can show cold because it was a paul mitchell which all my home was called right and i've seen him. I saw him on. Tv with this little character. Wouldn't character to characters. Knucklehead samantha and and jerry mahoney and i saw it in i'd say. Hey how did he make covid the doll house and he talking and everybody fascinated me. So you know the very next day. I try to emulate what he did. I took my sister's discarded doll and did a macgyver took a coping saw straight band and a rubber band made them off move and then i use that pool few weeks until i was able to get a store bought one from the magic shop. Who is that and you're ten. I was ten years old ten years old. Wow i've never papers The detroit times remember laid off and i would always come home from school going to come out and get out of school. Go to the paper out. Come home from school and get in front of the mirror in the little dim that we had their little house there and i try to practice. My mom was ironing in extreme here. And i was doing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over again she says. Can you give me the rest now. That's okay. I could understand it because because you're saying the same stuff over and over you know when practicing it's okay with you but somebody's listening to it you know. Yeah we all know about annoying kids what you know. It's interesting that you mention that I've worked with several ventriloquist. And it is a combination of a unique art form and being able to write and be funny. But i have to say and i know. I don't want to offend any the other ventriloquist i know and have worked with but you were the best when it came to enunciating the difficult words without moving your lips. It was incredible to see you perform so all those years of practice in annoying your mom paid off. It did it. Did indeed you like way more. But i i doubt it was. It was sort of a strange situation. Because when i was about twelve twelve and a half i started doing. A little amateur show is around around the city there. And it doesn't seem as show call on showtime at the apollo he. It was like a an isn't that show that segment of a show where they had amateur part. The average of were amateurs come out and audience would boo they would heckle and all that stuff. They did the apollo for years in new york when it did the tv show. They put that segment in there. And i would do shows in detroit back. In those days it was at a theater and there's clasby movie and then they will come up and then they would show the amateur show. I mean the present amateur show laid on introduce a professional. Act like hank ballard and the midnight is they get that rhythm and balance the win that wrote the twist. Wow what a great way to start invalidate. Your career chubby checker covered it and but he made a hit. He made it a hit. Oh yeah no doubt minutely Somebody else wrote it. But you actually coming from detroit. You must have worked with a lot of those motown groups. Yeah sign with motown motown for like a. I guess eight years. I was signed with them. But i still did some shows after that with them we are. I gotta i got album. Hello dummy this. On the tamla label subsidy of motown only that. That's impressive and really unique. That is cool. i mean obviously. We've all heard of motown albums. But i didn't know they did. A comedy album like I think i think soupy sales was with them for a while. Sammy davis junior. Took him for a while. But but again they weren't the like basically the motown sound people like imprint supremes temptations four tops. Bill stevie wonder and all those folks. I get to work with those Musical geniuses we used to. When i started out it was in the sixties when it first started out the motor town he was just having so we travel on the road on the bus. Mortar town review and the supremes temptations four top. Everybody what a poor top state. They've worst. I always keep me less than i am cheat. Sheet the show. Well let me tell without. Nail obama mississippi texas all places we would do big gigantic big gigantic arenas one nighters. It's so interesting that you mentioned that. And i i apologize. I didn't know about your pass because We're gonna talk about it in a few minutes. But you ended up emceeing big tv specials and i had no idea that you traveled that bus tour with those famous acts in that also on up a little bit. But that might be why you love to sing. That's that's the reason. I got into thing because what we do less than i would. Mc show with 'em introduce the acts. I think the contours was. It always opened the show. Do you love me you know. And they they've always over the show because they were physically active. Do the splits jump up and down on the stage.
