Joy Reid Resorts to Calling Elon Musk Racist

"Check out joy Reid. The thing is the only enjoyment they get out of being in this town square is being able to harass people, being able to attack people. There was a time when people had the double hashtags around their names because they were Jewish and right wingers were saying get in the oven anytime you made any benign comment on Twitter. They attacked women. The misogyny was crazy on Twitter for a while. Elon Musk, I guess he, you know, he misses the old South Africa in the 80s. He wants that back. Elon Musk misses the old South Africa from the 80s. He's pro apartheid right joy. He's a racist. That's all they got. It's all they got. And the irony of that bitter vicious, nasty, vitriolic woman. Claiming that conservatives want Twitter so we can attack people, she is the pit bulldog of MSNBC. She's the attack dog that's the junkyard dog that will take your arm off if you're a conservative and you get within ten feet of her.

Jeannie Constantinou and Eric Discuss the Story of Lazarus

"Story of Lazarus, what I find almost funny is like I find a lot of stuff funny just because it's so crazy. But the idea is that Jesus does the most astonishing thing imaginable. Everybody's minds are blown. It's like the mic drop of history. And the slap of the oven. What? We're not bringing that up. But what happens what I find funny is that the Jewish leaders, okay, these corrupt men, how do they want to deal with this? Instead of saying, oh my goodness, maybe this is the messiah. Maybe this is God. Maybe we should. No, they say, we want to kill him. We need to wipe him out. And if that's not enough, they also wanted to kill Lazarus. Which I find actually funny. Can you imagine? There was no angry that they want to kill. It's like, because he died once, we're going to make sure he doesn't. There were so many witnesses to the death of Lazarus, we've been thinking all these people came and helped prepare the body. He was cold. He was stiff. They put him in the tomb. They stayed with the sisters, and they were mourning with them. There were eyewitnesses to the raising of Lazarus. So of course they have to get rid of him because he's living proof that Jesus was the messiah. And do you know where Lazarus went? Where he went? Yes. To get away? No. He went to Cyprus. He was preaching on and you should know this. This is very interesting. We talk about where do we get that? Island of Cyprus. And one of the early church fathers. Part of the tradition of the church of Cyprus, the church of Cyprus, is one of the oldest churches is older than the church of Greece, right? Because Paul went to Cyprus and there were people who went to Antioch, there were Jewish Christians who went to Antioch from Cyprus. So if you read axe, you will see this.

What Would Victor Davis Hanson Do in Russia?

"So what would you do if you were advising this administration? And it's a kind of thucydides trap, it's kind of a catch 22. If we had given the weakness demonstrated in the last year, there is very little that can be done to extricate oneself, short of replacing the commander in chief with somebody who has credibility. So it's hard to change the ingredients in the cake once the cake has come out of the oven. Is it not? Yeah, it is. I mean, if you had asked me this question in January 20th, I would have said up the 13 million barrels to 15 million barrels and crashed that price so he has no wherewithal and we don't we're more independent and we could ship liquified natural gas to Europe and they wouldn't have to go through with this pipeline and then I would have said continue the Trump pressure for these countries to up their military contributions I would have said to Ukraine what are the offensive weapon up offensive, not defensive offensive weapons that you need and here they are, but we're not there now. And so now he's flush with cash, Putin, the sanctions won't immediately hurt him. And he's made a cost of benefit analysis that the Biden administration either won't react or will react very weakly. And we have no pressure points under Biden. If we were had a different administration, we could have always triangulated with the Chinese. We did this with the Russians. We did this with the Chinese. They were both enemies. They're both enemies now. But we had a role that neither one of them would be closer to each other than they were to each of us. And we lost that to the collusion hoax. So I would have done that as well. And. You're going to get involved there. I don't see militarily how the United States can deter him. Rich Zeoli: Democrats' War on Energy Is Why Production Costs Are Soaring

"Total annual utility cost gas and electricity for a new house using gas appliances is about 4300 compared to much higher for an electric house Why is that Why is that It's because electric is subsidized That's why it's subsidized Gas has efficiency ratings of about 92% Meaning that most of the energy contained in the original gas is utilizing the appliances And what I think is really important too to think about when you think about the war and energy that the left is doing right now is they pick and choose their winners and losers I'm going to give this to everything in the economy And what they hate more than anything is anything that's a fossil fuel They do They hate it If you could have an electric oven powered by a wind turbine in your backyard they be all in They would love it They'd be all in But you know normal people the average person who's not driving an electric vehicle in this country and who knows at $12,000 to subsidize it is not going to make them buy it They see what's going on right now They really do They see it And what the goal of Republicans has to be to convince them that the Democrats Warren energy is the reason why their food prices are soaring It's a reason why everything that they're paying for is soaring The shipping cost to container cost the production costs all of it petroleum costs every aspect of it Every aspect of production has to do with energy prices

Dutch Told Not to Hug Grandchildren This Christmas

"Christmas has been canceled in Netherlands with the Dutch prime minister telling the public they can not cuddle their grandchildren prime minister Mark rutte has told the Dutch public that there would be no cuddling the grandkids this Christmas. After the government effectively canceled Christmas. Lockdown restrictions in the country were extended by the government on Tuesday. And are now only set to expire after the holidays on January 14th. I should have Ava on the fantastic young Dutch woman I met in Hungary. Let's have her on next week. According to the telegraph, the extended measures include the so called avant avant lockdown, or evening lockdown. Oh, oven. It's opened in German, very similar languages. Which forces restaurants cafes and non-essential retail, to close between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. 5 p.m. 5 p.m. how a restaurant is going to survive in the Netherlands. Wow. This reveals the decline of the west more. Vividly than anything in my lifetime. The wimps that have been made, the fools that governed. The weakness, the non concerned with liberty, the non concern with the little guy.

"The mason minute. With Kevin mason. One of the biggest debates for Thanksgiving is that we have dressing, are we having stuffing? And yes, there is a difference. My wife's family prefers dressing. It's a family tradition handed down that they love. I don't mind it, but I've never cared about dressing or stuffing. And I've had stuffing, the kind you actually put in the bird and cook in the bird. Of course, there can also be some health hazards with that too because, well, you're putting something inside an uncooked bird, so naturally, as it cooks, if there are any problems with the bird to begin with, they're going to be cooked into the bread, perhaps, too. So it's kind of a weird thing, but most people do dressing rather than stuffing. But when stove top came out, that was the funny part. It was stove top stuffing. It should have been stove top dressing, but the alliteration didn't work there. Stuffing is stuffed inside a bird. If you've stuffed it inside the bird, enjoy your stuffing today. If you cooked it on the stove or cooked it in the oven or however you cooked it outside of the bird, you're having dressing. It's a big holiday tradition right next to the Thanksgiving Turkey. I'm guessing. We may be mashed potatoes and gravy. Okay, and maybe cranberries in my family, but Happy Thanksgiving.

"oven" Discussed on Squawk Pod

"Right, there's not everything is for roads in actual physical infrastructure, but broadband might be important. But they make the case that it's sort of like a gateway drug. I said that last week and gateway drug to the social spending plan that sort of allows ushers in a much greater chance at that finally happens. The Republicans that put it over the finish line because it would not have passed the infrastructure without Republican support. Yeah, although I wonder if those holdouts from the Democratic Party, the 6 who voted no, would have been able to vote no if there was so much pressure that it wouldn't have passed. The Republican votes actually gave them a little bit of cover to be able to go back and say to their base, I said, no, because I'm really fighting for what I promised you on these other things. Hard to know with all the you never know the unknowns. And what might have been the other side of things. But yeah, it does bother me, the level of attacks that have come on people. Are you are you up to speed on the morning show? Have you seen the latest quantities? I've started the season, but I'm not. Okay. It sort of goes through what happened last year. Last year. And when one of them was South Carolina and President Biden, when he wasn't president he was not at that point leading remember who was leading? Bernie Sanders was late. And it's like the party was like, petrified, oh my God, we gotta find somebody else besides burning. So they got Biden, but then Biden turned into Bernie Sanders. Basically, not into him, but everything Bernie wanted is the center of the Democratic Party. So they put in a stocking. Who brought in such numbers in those primaries? And by the way, did you see the Elon Musk tweets back and forth? Yeah, I did. I don't like ageism, but I love Elon. You know what I mean? I don't like saying jeez. I can't believe he has the. Ability to say that. Not get canceled. It's hard to cancel the world's richest guy. But to say, you still around, Bernie. But I was thinking of it in the context that supposedly the credit party realized that that was not the center of where the country was with Bernie and he'll never get elected. But then we went there anyway. They went there anyway. Everybody just became a stocking horse. Bernie's in charge. Bernie put him in charge of the committee to draw this stuff up and the progressives have a hundred. And those other 6. So that's why you see the most split and divided party you've ever seen is that you're bringing together some pretty polar opposites and trying to convince them all to vote for the same legislation. Biden's been around a long time. I don't know why he doesn't have the sense to be who he used to be, but it's not going to happen. Thanksgiving is just over a week away. It's a week from Thursday. Just look, definitely. It is. And besides food, it's the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. And Courtney Reagan she loves this time of year for a lot of reasons. It doesn't, Joe. I don't like shopping. I like food. I like pie. You probably like receiving gifts though, right? I mean, there's nothing I don't have. Nothing I don't have corn. Well, that's good. Really? What are you doing? I'm happy to hear that, Joe. So if you're thinking about something the guy that has everything. Exactly. I don't know. More betting money. But I could do my best. I could use someone who knows how to bet on football games. Go ahead. That could be helpful. That could be helpful to find finally when your fantasy giraffe. All right, well, it's the big first forecast for the Thanksgiving week shopping stretch. We just got it here moments ago, Mastercard spending pulse, expect total retail sales, so this is in store and online. We'll grow 10% over last year, 12.2% compared to Thanksgiving week 2019. Black Friday sales alone forecast increased 20% year over year. Shoppers are expected to return to physical stores to snap up those in store door busters that are reverting to Black Friday from Thanksgiving again this year. So what's old is new again. Many retailers are closed on Thanksgiving. Many did so in 2020 as well. As the pandemic really accelerated and there were no vaccines available. And while those factors have changed, the stores are going back to previous Turkey day tradition and staying closed. Ecommerce sales are expected to grow just 7.1% compared to Thanksgiving week 2020. It makes sense because remember so many consumers just shop from the safety of their homes Thanksgiving week last year compared to non pandemic Thanksgiving week at 2019, however, ecommerce will be more than 50% higher. Big ticket items will be the strongest with luxury, excluding jewelry. Forecast to grow 92.3% followed by apparel sales growth of 56% and department store sales growth of more than 40%. If those department stores are getting another shot to impress these consumers, they better not blow it. Joe, back over to you. Just thought about and Christmas is coming. Too. So we've done the Thanksgiving how much that's going to cost. You know, it's going to be record. You know what we can do after that Courtney that the 7 dancing ladies and geese laying? What's the price of that going to be this year? You know how every year we do that? We add up how much it costs to put on that Christmas Carol. So we haven't done that yet. We got it. First we're doing Thanksgiving, to me. We haven't done it yet, but I bet we will. I bet it's in the card somewhere. What are you doing to be an all time high? And up a lot. Hey, have you heard it that we really shouldn't be worrying about inflation because we saved up so much money during the pandemic? Did you hear someone say that? Over the weekend, that's how out of touch. Some people are about to vote. Unfortunately, obviously, inflation is going to hit the lowest the lower end consumers the most terrible things that were the hardest hit during the pandemic. To defend, I think it's not going to go there. Anyway, I don't know who it was. I don't remember, so I can't get blamed. Thanks, Courtney. Thanks, Joe. It was just looking it up. The 12 days of Christmas to buy all of that stuff in 2020 was $16,168, which was down 58%. I'm trying to figure out what dropped so much last year. Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. Not the dancing ladies. Oh, here's why this is tricky. I'm just looking at it. 9 ladies dancing, ten lords of leap being 11 pipers piping 12 drummers drumming. They max those all out at zero because of COVID. So you couldn't do any of that. There you go. They're all back. Some of them are back. Well, we'll see. We'll see what's happening in the upper Midwest, and Austria, and Germany. Germany. We talked about Scott gottlieb about that. Can you give us a little bit of advice? Yeah, I was going to say, I'm not sure why I dropped that much, but that's why it was the COVID closures. We'll see what it costs for 2021. You were talking about all the bees and build back better. Go back to the Biden build back better Bill. Now I have Paula Abdul stuck in my head. Thank you very much. What happens? Do you love me? Oh, is that how that started? Now we've got every one of the lyrics running through my head. It's like the stupid stuff you remember. Always stuck in there. Next, on squawk pod COVID vaccines and Therapeutics are available here, and so is an uptick in new cases of the virus. Doctor Scott gottlieb with the stats and his expectations. Things are picking up if they're picking up slowly. Cases are up 9% over the last 14 days, but hospitalizations are down 10%. The best case scenario is we get a month, 6 weeks of sort of this flattening and then.

New film 'Dear Even Hansen' is a misfire on just about every level

"Let's talk about youth or at least an attempt at representing youth. I'm talking about the weekend's big release. Dear evan hansen which is in theaters on friday. Who where to begin. Amanda dear oven has what is. Dear of enhancing amanda. It is an adaptation of a tony winning musical which will come back to and it is about a young man named evan hansen. Who is having a very difficult time in high school going through some mental health issues some social anxiety issues and has been encouraged to write himself letters of you know like self belief and pas positive thinking one of these letters falls into the hands of another person and i just i'm gonna say because we need to talk about what this film okay. Another troubled student at the high school who then takes his own life and the parents of the second teen find the letter. That evan hansen has written to himself. They believe their son wrote this last letter to evan hansen before he killed himself and then assume that evan hansen. This tea and with no friends actually had a beautiful friendship with their now deceased child and the main character. Evan hansen goes along with it. And it's like yeah. He was my friend and invents a whole story and friendship and ultimately like a philosophy on how to live and connect with other people that becomes like essentially a hit. Ted talk on the internet and then he become something of a mental health advocate but really just sort of friendship at a community of care for other people a wellness figurehead popular on the internet. And and then things sort of unravel but for the most part no one is held responsible for any of the choices made in in the in the musical and the movie and then people sing songs about discovering themselves and it ends. That is the one part. I want to underline you. You just described the bones of the story very accurately and it's a musical. This story is a musical and so of course. The character is break into song as the story unfolds. I thought this was very troubling movie. A movie that really did not work for a variety of reasons. I think neither you. Nor i saw the show on broadway and so we don't really have a relationship to the show. It was a big hit and of course it. Was tony winning. But it is. "Things. I wish i known when my kids started college like how their meal plans. Don't include ten dollar la taes three years ago when my kids started college. I could've used some guidance. Decent advice wisdom. I went on college tours asking. What are your dorms. Emergency exit plans. I should've asked how many essential oil marketers within a fifteen mile radius. Hold a communications degree from your university. What did i know. I was worried. Said to be losing my babies and wondering how in the name of god they survive without homemade smoothies would my make good choices. Texts be as effective without the appropriate facial expressions. I should have focused on the upside vodka. Bottles would soon return to the oven where they belong. I could keep my journal out in the open rather than hidden in the closet near the vibrators. Real changes happen for empty nesters and our kids during college years. Not all of them bad. Here's what i wish. I knew it will take one year to go from crying when they leave to crying when they come home six months. If you enjoy the kind of privacy you haven't had since clinton was in office. Prepare a speech for when they call to say we've been seeing each other exclusively for eight weeks. Should i still use a condom. That kid who is said to leave home will soon be wondering why you do things like visit and stay overnight. Go ahead and share opinions about what they wear an instagram pictures. I dare you. Are we supposed to quickly pivot from casting out trans fats and other sources of evil to serene acceptance that their diet now includes edibles. Yes yes we are so steel an edible. When you visit. The Fundamentals of Pleating With George Kalajian

"Another loss. Giverny professional secrets or anything. But i wondered if you could talk me through the general process for pleasing fabric. Sure sure so. Pleading can be done in three ways. Okay one is. It can be folded by hand and then just press with an iron which is usually what most at home seamstresses do so. That's not something that we necessarily necessarily focused on. The second way is through the use of machine okay. There are few different types of machines that are built and these machines will fold the fabric and they will usually roll the fabric and then you would put it in like an oven and cook it So that's that's one way with these large industrial machines. That's the second way. And the third way is with the use of a mold and the molds look like. They're look like they're made of cardboard and they're folded in various array of styles. There's just your basic styles which are lines up and down and then there are some crazier types of origami like patterns but the fabric is placed inside of this mold and the mold is compressed in bind and And then put in a giant steam box. Highly pressurized seem box and the fabric is cooked and cooled and it will retain the impression of whatever the mold is

Destenie Nock of Carnegie Mellon University on Fixing Energy Poverty

"My research group investigates how energy poverty will be affected by energy transitions an creates methods for identifying who is experiencing energy poverty when people hear the word poverty they usually think of people who have trouble affording their basic needs and the energy space most people assume in individuals energy port if they spend more than six percent of their income meeting their energy needs. The problem is that this assumes everyone is spending all the money. They need to keep their house at a comfortable temperature cook and use all of the other electricity appliances. We have become dependent on this misses. The people who use space heaters and their ovens to heat their homes due to high natural gas and oil prices and what about the people who keep their houses really hot in the summer because they cannot afford electricity in my research group we have created an energy poverty metric called the energy equity gap which identifies the households that are cutting their electricity consumption to reduce their financial burden. The energy equity gap is based on the difference in outdoor temperatures which members of different income groups are likely to start using their a c. We find that. The energy equity gap between low in high income groups ranges from four point seven degrees fahrenheit to seven point five degrees fahrenheit meaning on average low income households. Wait seven degrees longer to turn. On their ac units. Some households will even wait until it is above eighty degrees. This puts them at risk of heat. Stroke and heat. Exhaustion foregoing air-conditioning also increases the humidity in the house meaning the occupants will be at greater risk from mold asthma and allergens. We hope this new dimension of energy poverty will be used in addition to traditional income based energy poverty metrics to reduce the number of people suffering from energy poverty.

"Hey joel hello. It's a beauty out there today. Very nice yeah. And i hope to get up and spend a little time in the garden this afternoon myself. So interesting experience The my son. Jake and his wife nikki where the place we rented has a bunch of Pear trees and we noticed that the pears were dropping. You know it's sort of like apples. Early ones drop and the friday night. I came home to dinner. They had made. And one of the things they made was baked pairs. And these were the dropped pairs. It came down and they weren't more than maybe two inches or maybe three and i was so surprised. I sorta figured well. They were hard and and really unusable but they had they had cut them down through the stem and the seeds. The long way opened them up. They put him in a in a big baking pan and put on now. Oh butter and some honey and put them in the oven. Three fifty for about I think they figured it was about forty minutes and all because they kept baking them and they were absolutely fantastic. They were you know big pairs and i would never have thought. Those little hard pairs would would be edible at all but they turned out to be absolutely delicious and they topped it off. with maple syrup and a little brown sugar of course and that helped but they were absolutely delicious terrific. I did that one year. And i actually could do it again. Now because tapani. The place. Where i where i lived. I mean literally off the huge development behind me and all around me and all that but it used to be an orchard out there and yell it's bay and so there are a lot of very old and Vestigial i guess is apple trees and a lot of them look like a cross between crab apple something else. Small hard little apples long story short. Exactly what you said you know bake them in butter a lot of people sarah sugar and they're delicious

"There's noble snack parts make it easy and You know it's nice to be able to know you can take it. You know if you're going out per day hunting or whatever you can take you know your your meal. Put it inside the oven. Go all day just kinda. If you're gonna be gone day. What you wanna do is face. The oven towards the south so as the sun comes up in adjust during the day. When you get back five o'clock here your meal will be ready so any and matter of fact if you are able on a cloudy day to cook only half of meal so let's say you're you're cooking time calls for two hours and you're only having out for an hour or so and then you get some clouds even if the sun never comes back out it'll continue to cook and finish cooking in the sun other nats how tidy locks in the heat inside chamber. What what we talk about real quick about how it's constructed how. It's how it's built. How it's insulated the ever. All all the all the Accessories and whatnot. You can get with it okay. Be glad to chris. So inside beyond the or aluminum. So they're eighty seven percent reflective the The aluminum reflectors are and again the glasses. A low iron glass which again allows the heat to come in and it makes it a little harder report. He heat get out and then also inside. The chamber is made abandon is aluminum. And so it's very well put together. So no he escapes from inside that chamber. Been from the outer chamber Which is a plastic From there to the to the mental inside the entertainment is a we use pizza insulation. That goes in pizza ovens very high rated. So it's it's difficult for the heat actually escape from there and you know even though the glass gets hot on the outside. It won't get hot you know or won't get huddled around the sides so the glass build the heat.

"Oven house people is this crazy people come from all over the country. They squat in Venice, and now then it's owns these 1000 people. And people in Venice and on the West side have to pay for their their upkeep. What they accept it. That's what's maddening to. Well, Why is it that somebody squats in Venice? He now has property rights in Venice. He owns a piece of the boardwalk. He owns a piece of the beach. He owns a piece of the alleyway. What do you talking about? Guy walks in from Texas squats and suddenly we have to service him in Venice. What the hell is he talking about? That's insane. Why don't the video who's destroying Venice and you will see a little medley of people being asked where they came from? And it's all over America and the numbers are growing. The message gets out there that Venice is a great place to just flop on the beach. Why don't we have to pay for this? They are not entitled to our tax money because they traveled here from another state stoned, drunk or otherwise out of their mind. I don't understand why a guy who's snorting that fall day stoned on pot drinks 15 beers a night. I've got to come up with a place for him. I've got to pay for him. Why? That That's no. You don't have to pay for them. They have no right to be here. They have no right to be on the streets of Venice or anybody else's streets. No. No, I don't feel sorry for them. They were clear headed enough to find their way here from Texas. I used to shake my head. It's skid Row in downtown L A. But now I realize, well, what does it matter? Because nobody really cares. Skid Row has been there for decades, and while a few downtown residents still complain about it, It's probably a place where they might as well go if they're not gonna go to Slab City, But once they start hunkering down in beach areas where there's a lot of homes like Venice, I talked about this a couple of months ago in Santa Monica. They've taken over the parking garages near the promenade, which is a really nice shopping area. It used to be. This is what you have to put your foot down and say no. Send them all then to downtown L. A skid row, But get them off the streets of Venice and the beach area. I want to play one more clip. Let's do when we come back Bonnin on the beach parking lot idea, because this is the idea that turned into a land mine for him. This is Pacific Palisades. Yeah. And and it's Pacific Palace. Where will Rogers Park for her beach parking lot, and it's more resistant. It's Westchester and it's Dockweiler and it's Marina del Rey Fishermen's village. Because this is where he really made me crazy. This will get you shouting back at the radio at the television. It's just insane thinking. We'll talk more when we come back John and Ken Kay, if I'd ever Marquez do see is investigating three more car windows that were shattered within the last 24 hours on the 91 Freeway, the LAPD says is treating an attack on a group of Jewish men at a sushi restaurant.

"What you say on the side label. You can't explain look at folks. We know it's expensive because it doesn't have salt in it. It's just not gonna fly. You can't market that. So i've broken down and we've put salt in the In in the blends but we're finessing it And i know people out there gonna call me of phony a phony baloney but We're financing it with the fine print. Can you see caesar's dry. Rub seasoning and dry brine out dry brine with seasoning and dry brine. That's the salt part. It's a dry brine. And i explain on the side label that you want to add it in advance. So the salt has a chance to penetrate. We're trying to fidesz the idea that there's salt in there. When we made a big deal about their there shouldn't be But it works and the blinds. We're good we're we're there are different than the recipes on the website half to be otherwise. Why by it and one of the things that's different is is most of them are smoked. We have smoked the ingredients. So you've got smoked paprika. You got some smoked garlic and smoked pepper. And they have a really nice smokey smell and flavor and then the sauces. So it's interesting when you when you do this process you create a recipe and like i have a recipe for sauce that uses raspberry jelly. They're not gonna put raspberry jelly in in. A sauce is too expensive and they have to buy it from smucker's or someplace so you'll have to reformulate for stuff that for ingredients they have and you've got to communicate with them back and forth. Okay what ingredients you have. What smoked ingredients do you have. And then they send you samples and we've gone through three sets of rubs to get to the waiting for the final set. We think we've nailed it and sometime this week we should be getting the final set of the rubs and they should be just what we want and we can lock down but we've gone through Three or four iterations of the rub at to taste. And now you know if if it was just me they could just send it to me. But i've got a four or five key people around the and david dave Jaochim maher editor is in pennsylvania husky. Who runs the pitmasters clubs in michigan. jim my webmaster. Who got a great palate is a few hours from me here. Max is also a few hours me here and so we have to have them ship samples to us and we have to have zoom meetings to discuss okay. I tried it on a pork chop the other day and so it's been really fun. Process of tasting and fine tuning. Oh and clinton of course is in on it. Clinton can't well he's in memphis so it's it's as zoom a internet Collaboration to create these flavor profiles. And we're very close now. We're working on the on the sauces and we work in the label designer and With luck will have these two sauces. Three rob's ready to be distributed on the market in Probably late march early april and they'll go primarily to barbecue stores and hardware stores groceries. One of these we've learned. Is that the grocery store. Market is just hell acis getting placement on grocery store shelves. You you've got a lot of palms degrees and so just learning a lot. And i'm happy if you want on a regular basis to share what i'm learning in case there's somebody out there who wants to follow in our path But it it's a fascinating fun and treacherous process. Yeah i think we want to keep on that because at this point you are you know in the easiest part or the part the have most control now is the time where you're going to have to start turning it over and selling it and recouping costs well i mean what are you in right now from from a cost start startup very little and the old world. Spices is working on the come right now. We have the contract So i i right now. The only outlay i have is to label designer and they're not cheap. I'm working with a good artist. Who's doing what i asked. And i i've paid about five grand so far and we're pretty sure it will cost about seven grand by the time we're done with the basic labeled design for all product. All right so we'll get another update when we revisit their and february so sounds like things are going mostly smoothly at the moment. And now there's been a little stumbling block with the sauces. And i'll i'll let you know how that turns out next month all right. We'll do that. In the meantime you can check out meet head over to mazing ribs dot com and find him on some social media channels as well and of course you find him on the second tuesday of the month right here on the show. Meet on always appreciate the time and we will see you in february. Greg always good talking to you. And i'm glad to be in twenty twenty one with you and good luck to your browns and to all of you. Central lights all right. There is mayhem from amazing rigged right there on the show. You find him here on the second tuesday of every month. That's right so it sounds like the sauces are more or less dialed in. And i'm sorry. The rubs are more or less style than then. We'll see what happens with saas next. We'll see all right. We talked you quickly about. Bnb charcoal also one the newer sponsors of the show providing lump charcoal briquettes. Charcoal wood pellet. We are probably going to be talking about dead next week with ed reilly i believe i have him at the nine thirty five psych next week actually looking forward to talking with him now remember. Bnb started out back in the early sixties. I think it was one thousand nine hundred sixty two nineteen sixty five somewhere. Along these lines they have been owned and operated. I believe they're starting in their third generation to might be Just the second generation of ship his point but they started out as they lump company then realizing that they had the char dust laying around after they had made their lump charcoal they decided to get into making the briquet product and that there was actually some fines leftover from briquet process and then they whooped all those up put them through an extruder process. And that's how you make your char logs which i am a huge fan so whatever the fuel source and at this point it's still tough to find everything everywhere so if you have an ace store that you are frequenting make friends with the managers. I tell you then ask about all the stuff that they might have if they don't have it in stores specifically and tell them to go online or there's a lot of general warehousing access that they should be able to ship in from and get you the stuff that you're looking for and then of course tell everybody that you know about being be especially if they have charcoal cookers or if they have appellate cooker that's very popular now will continue to grow into twenty twenty want and we'll talk about those pellets next week and again you know if you're a consistency and a i want to know if i add x. amount of briquettes i'm or x amount of fuel. I'm getting this much heat increase. Cats are more your style. If you're a little more fly by the senior pants or you know you want the high heat bumps should be more your game if you want something to give you that lump access but then we'll burn forever those char logs. We're going to be something you definitely gonna wanna try. I use them. Actually supplement my woods splits when i'm running the blank to keep that cole bread kobe robot. Bb charcoal dot com. That's b. b. charcoal dot com and we are back to wrap the first hour after this sticker.

"But humidity inside. That oven can really control A lot of things about the heating properties of the food as well as the moisture content of the food. A nova the The su. Vida company they make The nova surveyed device. They have a new one. That's pretty far along and it's coming on the mark. Iv running on the market and a new dot com. You can check them out. I think we're gonna see more of these in june is working on. I don't know if they've delivered it yet. But their software is the software. That's inside the the At for weber. And i think weber just decided you know if we're gonna roll the dice on app driven cookers. We ought to own the software. We ought to own the company that wrote the software. I don't know if they bought them for the grill for the oven as much as the software although the oven is an interesting product and whoever is in the cooking business so why not have a high tech oven that works on the same app as their smoke fires. So you know once you use the app for one you can use it for other makes perfect sense and there's some synergy there. I had a conversation with. Kevin coleman their executive shift the he was a guest on the pit master club. Happy hour we had little to our conversation. Webinar the other day on Cold weather cooking and kevin was one of our guests. And i got onto one of my favorite topics. You've heard me mention. We now have pellet grills smokers that our thermostat control you it forget it you can even program a sequence of temperatures in a taper off all kinds of fun stuff And you have thermostat controls for charcoal grills now and that's gonna dovetail into the next topic. We're going to take up. But why can't we have a thermostat for gas grill. Why a few years ago. My ge oven thermostat died went online. And i found a replacement part for thirty bucks. And i installed it myself. It wasn't hard. And i'm not mechanically inclined. Why can't we put a thirty dollar addition onto a gas grill and able to set it for two twenty five and walkaway This i think would appeal to a lot of people particularly people who are accustomed. The indoor cooking and outdoor cooking is so hard. It's so hard to do sol. He he kind of chuckled. And said maybe something will happen. Which caught me off guard. I didn't expect to hear that. So maybe whatever's got a thermostat. Gas grill in the pipeline. Do you have any speculation on why we haven't seen anything like that. And the gas grill up kits. It's complicated because you've got four burners in in your indoor of got one burn santa thermostat and you've got just one box and you're not you're not dealing with two zone cooking you're not trying to sear in an oven warm air. You know. this is a topic that i can ramble on for hours. You can't sear in an oven. And i hear from people with tomatoes. Oh my kamado goes up to six hundred degrees good. that's wonderful. you can't see her for shit. You need infrared radiation here unique glowing coals. Flame you to see her so there there are. It's more complicated on a grill than it is. So i mean in essence you would need to grill where the burners would be turning off and coming back on just like you would in an oven and that's just not technology that's in any of these girls point. I don't think it's insurmountable. I've not really put my tend to paper and try to design it myself because that's not something i'm skilled at but i'm sure that the people perhaps apps june can do this. They can do is a technique that will turn burner one on and burner too often bernard to too low and then to medium and and they can keep the heat in the indirect zone. And what you want it. And so is this dramatic the other product that we were going to be talking about and To be fair. I don't know anything about it. Other than what. I've seen and i've been able to land a An interview with the owner of this company next tuesday thirty five companies Called spark grill and this has a thermostatic controllers. you'd mentioned however of this is not a gas grill. This is a charcoal of some type driven grill. So it's not gas as you had mentioned but This is kind of a step in that direction spark as a new grille. Are we have a full-time grill. Tester on our team max. Good he's been a guest on your show before i mean. Is that a great job description. He's got a better job. Naive guy the guy tests grills were living a. He has one right now. And when you asked me if i could address the subject today i knew a little bit about it. Because i'm the one who stumble into it and asks max to take a look at it. And so he's gotten one and he's i boxed it needs read the manual and he's starting to with it. We talked about it today. And i've got some insight into let me let me describe what the spark is because it is very different. And i would say somewhat revolutionary. It's very cool concept. It sells for about a thousand bucks but right now they're discounting it to seven forty nine with some package things or eight forty nine and i think max said that. He sought for a while during the holiday season at five ninety nine wealth. So it's being discounted available only online at the moment. It looks like a. Pk grill and if you can pull it up put it up. Pull it up the pk. And the spark their you know kind of jelly bean shaped But it's it's it's a double layer. They claim that has a layer of ceramic inside for insulation and porcelain coated. That's pretty serious stuff The cooking surface about three hundred and sixty eight square inches enough for twelve burgers. They say cast iron grates got a little shelf on the side but it the cool thing is is that it has a thermostat built in. There's a knob on the front. You have to plug it into the wall. The whole thing is it depends on electricity but it burns charcoal. And there's knob on the front and you turn the knob and nights the charcoal. You said it for a temperature. It tells you when it hits that temperature there's an app that comes with it And the charcoal that it uses is not a normal charcoal. it's a the they call it a brick it it it. It's about the size of my book. Here i got a picture of it up on the web sunscreen now you know what the exact dimensions. But it's around.

Kevin coleman thirty bucks kevin thirty dollar twelve burgers one box next tuesday june today two thirty five companies about a thousand bucks six hundred degrees about three hundred and sixty one burn two zone seven dot com five ninety nine wealth few years ago

"Report Properly eat head from amazing ribs dot com joining here on the show. So you had sent me a link moments before we jump on the air and it was breaking news and the headline reads weber buys smart oven company. June i've never heard of june. A june will continue develop new ovens and accessories. But i'm anxious to hear why weber would have acquired a smart oven company. Doing the weber partnered with to build the software for their smoke fire. The smoke fire is weber's first pellets. Smoker they came out about a year ago with a great deal of controversy. And you and. I have discussed it and a major feature of it was an app that webber had billed as really cutting edge the unfortunately when they introduce the machine. The wasn't quite ready and it's been slowly upgrading and weber has gone from a foundry if you will An equipment manufacturer hardware on a to being a software company and so they partnered with this company. June i think they're in san francisco and june had expertise and app development and particularly in predictive analogs such for cooking and they were working on this oven. There's several these new kombi ovens coming on the market and they're going to be very interesting. these kombi than the new kombi ovens. They are right now. They're they're countertop ovens but they'll eventually become built in but they have convection oven regular heating have cameras built in so that they can look at the color of the me and they can you know. Watch the color of your bark. They can sense temperature in and around and they have all manner of timers and Probes you can insert probes predictive technology. You can look at it and say you're roast will be done at five thirty four that sort of thing and many of them. The combi oven is also. They control humidity and Barbecue be something about this but not enough and that is the humidity inside an oven and a barbecue. Pit or grill is just an oven with a lousy thermostat.

"On your oven or you had a dirty oven yeah yeah you know not give things over in the Turkey's been cooked it's time to give your ovens a really good cleaning because Christmas is coming up and if you're ready to get cleaning this weekend we have a couple of trips Fauria so how often should I clean my oven how often do you use it now thirty does again right it you know it all depends on the frequency of use but most of I should really clean our ovens every few months if you wait a year what happens is even if you're just a moderate user of Greece and crowed builds up on the inside of your oven and if you have a self cleaning oven when you turn that self cleaner on what it does is it burns away everything on the surface and your house who just gets it dispatches your local fire department yeah terrible it's terrible so what's a mother to do so one of the things that you can do for example with a self cleaning oven if you can use baking soda three parts baking soda one part water make a paste wipe it all over the inside of your oven don't do this when the ovens cool right yeah but you don't want any racks in the oven or anything cause and you gonna let it sit for twenty four hours then you're going to come back and you're going to wipe everything off and the baking soda make sure that she dried on the oven once you wipe that off it's going to take a lot of the crud that's built up and you want to use a soft cloth you don't want to use an abrasive because that will ruin a self cleaning oven I have a self cleaning oven yeah and then I have one that is not self cleaning it is you have to clean it yourself so I find the baking soda is good for doing that as well and if I do it more frequently than not I don't have to use that really caustic cleaning easy off by the way the company that's been making the stinky oven cleaner that so dangerous for years yes they're making a professional fume free Max oven cleaner which is about five dollars a bottle and gets quite a few five star reviews Eugenia Chapman the queen of clean air the author of clean your house and everything in it who was when she was living a frequent guest on our program swore by easy off yeah yeah cleaning an oven rack this is interesting you.

"Let's get to it. We have Karen from Clarksville Tennessee Cohen. Hey, karen. What would you like to talk about? Well, I have an outdoor picking question. I am the master for a cub scout pack here in Tennessee. We had about fifty active boy, and we go camping four to five times a year. Okay. We're pretty good at cooking outside a Dutch oven. But last year, we try to traditional thanksgiving dinner outside and the boy. And we did creamed corn and cheesy potatoes. We had different kinds of stuffing. They even hate vessels Brown. And pumpkin pie and Applecross all that you could outside in Dutch ovens. Rentable. Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty awesome to see them do it remind me, what are the ages of cub scouts typically are kindergarten through fifth grade boy, and their man, a small battalion of five ten year olds, cooking all that food Dutch ovens outside, and you made it happen. And it was happy and delicious. And you still have a question. I am the qualified to answer anything if you could get that to happen. Well, we have some really awesome leaders and some really awesome kids. Wow. So cool or so what was the question? We chickened out and did Turkey lope, because I had ovens at the camp, which is doesn't always happen. But I am ideas on how to cook turkeys outside everybody. Agreed they wanted to try it again this year. But they would like real Turkey. Okay. What you're saying to me, makes me, wonder and boy, this would be so cool. But would you consider building essentially like a rotisserie, and by that, I mean? It could be pretty simple. You'd build a stand medal stand with a metal rod and doing the turkeys rotisserie style over the charcoal fire. Okay. Because I think if you're if you're thinking, Dutch oven, you can get that to work for sure. I'm sure you can bake them. But then, you know it'll be steaming inside let, you can get it cooked and you'd probably get it super delicious. But, you know, you're not gonna if people are thinking, like we want the Turkey for that golden skin that golden bird, kind of feeling. Right. So, you know, I'm sure you can Google up a million and one books on how to build a sort of primitive rotisserie, and just get those turkeys, roasting. You can do it with a crank crank from slowly. And it'd be fun to watch them as they get progressively more and more beautifully colored keep them a fair distance away from the flames, so that you're not over cooking or burning skin. Give it that time to cook all the way through and, and just get him for a few hours. Maybe that's the first thing you do while everyone's prepping everything else. And that could be an idea project. Yeah. Yeah. And how magnificent with that? Look, if you have, you know, four five these big beautiful birds, just kind of roasting along and you just feel so cool. Or the other way to do. It is kind of this may sound like more involved than that. But in some ways easier where maybe you do. Also, then, cook those turkeys in big, Dutch, ovens, basically, bake them till they're done and afterwards, maybe you can set up history as well and then just Brown them after. It's almost like if you were roasting in the oven, you some recipes you the low temperature you crack it up to Brown skin, the end you can control the cooking a little bit more and make sure they're cooked all the way through with maybe a little bit safer. It's like adding a step to it, but maybe you can do that and still get that nice skin at the end or you can also do it. And if you have grills, you know, baked the turkeys, and the Dutch oven take them out, and then just give them a little time on the grill the end just to help Brown ups in that skin..

"Edition from NPR news. I'm Noel king. And I'm Rachel Martin parents, make a lot of sacrifices for their kids for the ticket family in Minnesota. It was a kitchen appliance. He actually like broker oven so we had to get new oven that is Sherry, tuck it. And the he she's talking about is her son is Asia. Isaiah needed that oven when I was our bakery in town, close and around when I already making up take is as fourteen now and he has his own baking business called is, as tasty treats a kid with his own business selling cupcakes. What more could you want? How about a trip to DisneyWorld growing up? I would ask his parents, if they could go. May I know Dan, how no money and stuff like any good businessman. He struck a deal. They could I I'll ingredients night kinda keep a profit. And then when I raised no money to go to Disney. Okay, say it has a big family seven people. So his profits would have to be pretty substantial. His mom was a doubter. I, I mean I expected him to try you know what I mean? But to be it seemed like such a big goal. I was I didn't really know that it would be possible. But Isaiah started baking and baking at one point, he made seven hundred and fifty cupcakes for three graduation parties after a little over a year and a few thousand cupcakes is I had the money to take his family, all seven of them to Florida where they went on rides and swam with dolphins, but even with the goal reached his mom Sheri, says she doesn't see is as slowing down anytime soon. Just expect great things out of Isaiah. You know, seems like when he sets his mind to something he, he goes for it as, as tasty treats is still in business, but Isaiah has a new goal. Now he says he saving up for a blue pickup truck. If. Even though we still got a couple of years until he gets his driver's license. My money is on Isaiah to make that goal. Sounds like his mom doesn't mind either baking was probably in my life as the favorite thing that I did with my mom. And so it's just a, a part of the whole story that is just so dear to my heart is that, you know, the thing that I love the most of my mom is something that I'm able to pass onto him. We are rooting for you. I say..

I'm being an ungracious says, no, no, no. I usually when I've made pot roast for Casey, I prepare it. He doesn't even know about salt and pepper. You know? He doesn't have to there. A lot of people like me going out to the garage right now insert dinking around with the garage door. There's something wrong with it. I mean, he's never involved in food except for eating and enjoying it. And then to do the low blow I'll make spaghetti when he knows that strikes. Fear, my heart, rightly so. Yeah. And if you only made it once I can't having at this. May maybe ask him if he knows how much the meat for. So we already bought the pot roast like at eight up in Duluth six weeks ago. "Yes. I do. What is it? All right. There is a memoir by Iranian American author. Sarah sadie. Yeah. So to say d that's being made into a television show. What channel I don't know. I hope it's. But listen it's called Americanized rebel without a green card. She talks about everything from Sally field's not without my daughter to sex and prom to being labeled on the legal immigrant for her undocumented status. I can't wait till she's undocumented. Oh, this is gonna be good. She talks about politics. She talks about like, it's the first time that I'm like really seeing any Ronnie and woman of my generation like diving in to all of it. You know, what I mean, I'm I'm so stoked. I can't wait so much it. I feel like there's been this upsurge of Muslim people on TV, movies, and whatever. And finally, we get to have the fun conversation of dissecting how the characters are being portrayed versus like just a simple representation conversation. So I'm excited to have these more complex narratives. Yes. And what I've been getting a lot of people telling me. Oh, I'm so sorry. There's already a young Iranian woman. Who's writing a memoir looks like you can't anymore? What are you talking about? And they don't understand what this means is. I don't have to touch on every single topic in the world as the only Iran woman eating. Yeah. It's exactly should be freeing, my creeping sharia is that we have just put to Muslim women in congress in the beginning of this month, beginning of January. They swore on the Koran which I was really looking forward to. There was all this controversy amongst different types of Muslims about how should they use Thomas Jefferson Krahn or not is it anti-black to be using the Thomas Jefferson Kron, which was a lot of what I read and one of the things that I remember seeing for at least for Shida was she actually brought her own crime that was gifted to her by her best friend. She so red, and she said, this has more meaning and she didn't put down the times Jefferson corron, but she was just like, you know, my friend gave me this crime. And it was like that was so smooth. And when Ilhan was doing her swearing in ceremony. She was also holding onto a set of prayer of set of those while she was doing her swearing, so I just love it. I love how like they brought their own little flavor. Their own little thing to their swearing in ceremony. Oh, my author so bad ass, and they're so mazing, so amazing so much fun to follow them on Twitter. Yes. And instagram. Yeah. Love it and insa stories. All right. It's time. Okay. Our toaster ovens. What? Yeah. Just out with toaster ovens. Because did you know when you put corden Tra ta hard shells, toaster ovens, they catch on fire. Oh, no. Because even though it said on the package to put in the oven at three hundred fifty degrees when you put in the toaster oven caught on fire. He caught on fire. And I was on this writing retreat out in the middle of nowhere. Not even Josh retreat. Like we were like twenty minutes north of Joshua tree. So we were off of a dirt road. We had like no phone service. We were next to the big rock, which is where aliens come and Integra Thanh. And so there's like all this area. Like, really weird energy. What is the time this and this was like the day where I was completely by myself, and I was supposed to spend the night by myself. And so I knew it was going to come back for me on my God. And I'm cooking in all of a sudden look over and the whole toaster oven is inflame the plug for the toaster oven is behind the toy. Oester oven. So I can't even unplug it and I had brought Garland's because I was trying to make it festive because it was Christmas the garlands over. It was starting to melt in. Luckily, because I had just seen transformer exploded earlier in the day off the electric line in the electric had gone out in the place after that had happened. I was like I wonder where the fire extinguisher is. So you're the fire extinguisher was so I like had do spray the whole place fire extinguisher it..

"John. We don't have time to get into this. Oh, john. She says the name I know that I'm in trouble because maybe. Because like, I don't I mean, I could go down this crazy follow what I'm saying. Oven mittens. I'm calling him of admittance oven. Mittens is such a mouthful you've got mittens mitts. But if you add like, the extra ends, it's a lot. Oven romney's. That's what I call. That's what I call. My don't you. Call Europe admits that that's what I call. My. That would hit drew. Are you kidding me? I've always called them up and Romney's did find out on the video that we posted online about this very topic. I did find out that wool socks do not keep your feet warmer, but they do repel water. So it helps the waking the sweat. Yes. I'm wearing wool socks at this. Very moment. Are you? Yes. I have wool socks, but I don't wear them when it's cold because of that I didn't. They haven't kept me nearly as warm as my regular tube socks. The trouble is that people think wool socks are going to keep their feet, really warm and they don't wear shoes. That is the problem. For hobbits. Water. So they should be finding so right? You you don't need to warm up your car for very long. Yeah. That's a that's a popular myth automakers. Only recommend about thirty seconds driving your vehicle warms the engine faster. That's how you get the the heater to warm the warm the car, but I'd rather let it sit idle in for thirty minutes. So that when they get on. It's really warm takes that long unless you're driving it. You know, it takes thirty minutes of it just sitting there for it to warm up to the point where you turn on the heat and the heat is actually, you know, working. Well, I have a winter survival kit in your in your vehicle did that very proud of myself. Not to the extent that these guys have in here. Flashlight phone charger, spare batteries, I have snacks jumper cable shovel. Nope. Sands kitty litter deport down to give your tires traction. Okay. So I did not have a very good kit that just have closed and snacks. I always have closed snacks blankets my car anyway. So yeah, kitty litter is actually a really good idea. Not enough people do that. Th that is a smart thing to have in your car to get your to get traction. You need the traction. Plus, my my driveway had not been shoveled yesterday by the time, I got home. So I got stuck in my driveway trying to get into my no that was fun. Did you just clumping kitty litter work or does it have to be non clumping? Does it make a difference? I don't think it makes a difference. I don't know. I don't think it's gonna clump. It from come from the poop class from the beef. I know you know, what I bet clumping. I bet the clumping doesn't work as well. Because you in my car stuck..
