"Okay. I think it probably goes without saying that the nets or the team that nobody would have really wanted their situation. Maybe the nets did, you know, but I imagine that they would have preferred the Kevin Durant wanted to stay. Gary Payton and Otto Porter were guys that really mattered in this run. Maybe it was who they were playing, whatever else you want to say, fine. Losing those two guys hurts to some extent. You're projecting that guys can replace them and replenish what they gave you. But they're young guys. They might be ready. They may not be ready. They may not be ready ultimately for the stage. You could have other injuries that make those guys incapable of giving you what they gave you. But I think in particular, I think you can replace an auto Porter type. So I'm curious to see who they might be able to pick up to do that sort of thing. Painting, I think, hurts them. Losing Peyton really hurts them. And I don't even think it's debatable that he was important enough with that group to have been a starter with that group, particularly in a matchup against the Celtics. They looked old. They looked on athletic when they were playing against the grizzlies in part because Peyton was not there after he got hurt..

And they got to reestablish that spacing that they had in game one. The big reason why that fourth quarter why they went off in game one is because they were driving kicking right there penetrating and then they were leaving Al Horford and smart and Derek white wide open for these three pointers. They got to get back to playing that type of basketball and I think that maybe they have a pretty good chance in this series, but look, if Andrew Wiggins and Otto Porter and Jordan Poole beat you, then I think, you know, so you got to take your chances there. You just got to take your chances. I think the Celtics are as in good a shape as you could possibly be in an NBA Finals. It's not going to be easy. You don't get to this round and have it be a cake walk. So we'll see what ends up happening with Boston big game tomorrow night. That's kind of the series, right? More times than not, I'm sure the math tells you that the winner of game three in that situation ends up going on to win the series with a vast majority of the time. "He finished this game plus 13, everyone said that this is what I was talking about earlier about like switching and being hunted. It's like just let these pros play sometimes and sometimes as a coach you get inside your own head, you think that Tillman is going to defend better because someone was a little bit more someone was getting cooked so it's like Adam's finishes plus 13. I know a lot of stuff goes into that. He's just he's critical on the screens. He's critical off ball screens. He's critical on ball screens to offensive communication. He's critical on the offensive glass, creating second chance. 6 offensive rebalance. He was killing the glass. Yes, he had 6 offensive 15 rebounds total. Three assists. And it's like, what he does for jaren Jackson junior as well can not be overstated. In terms of Jaron staying out of foul trouble in terms of Jaron getting to guard four a little bit more, I know that Otto Porter went off and hit some threes and part that's partially because Jaron's out there is also trying to patrol the paint. "Out like you include the defense which it just. It's it's still so like i. I don't know if people are watching when they say oh as defense is better and then they leave it there because it's defense like is so it's so bad and there's only moments where it's it looks better where he comes from behind with a block but it's not consistent right and if you watch the games You know his teammates are const. Teammates in his coaches are constantly on him. And i wrote a piece about this last year. With a ton of footage all these clips of just frustration from teammates and coaches. And honestly i haven't i. You know. I keep a notebook when i'm watching games now and i always have and in it. I could write the same column this year. There's plenty of examples. So i don't know if he's improving on that end. I don't know how the money is going to impact them. You want to speculate about stuff like that but who knows And who knows physically how he's going to hold up. Obviously there's there's been questioned marks and red flags and a cetera et cetera about his body. But i dunno. I just wouldn't feel super great about paying him that much money if i were the gm of what's the denver nuggets who is very smart and knows what he's doing and his waist forgotten more about basketball than i've ever known but that's just how i what's the worst case scenario. There is it. Like i'm thinking in my head like is it. It's way too early. But is it like otto porter wizards sort of scenario where you max out somebody for their shooting ability but they don't create a whole lot for other people and then they're hurt like i mean that would be pretty bad because we thought we thought off of one of those they had like one really decent plop run right where we're just watching otto porter and his progression and we're watching bill. We're watching wall. And we're thinking that there's ability to contend for like the next few years particularly of porter takes a jump and then not only. Does it not come chicken and the egg. Maybe it doesn't come because he's not consistently on the court enough or maybe it just doesn't come because it wasn't going to come But to me that's my fear. Except for the fact that michael porter already had injury concerns the whole reason the draft to begin with and denver was able to get them to begin with. So i mean it's early and you don't wanna just bring up injury just because it's convenient to bring it up but yeah. This was my concern. I think when. I wrote my piece To start the season about like the seven biggest x. factors. He was actually. The guy led the peace with not. Because i didn't have ability and figured he'd be better than this. Hell i figure you know. Ishmael will be better than this. I loved by a lot of people will be better than this. But it was more. That i think to your overrated underrated question. Initially i thought a lot of people are starting to put the cart before the horse with him. Because i think they see how many points per game he averages and how good shooter he is and assume that he has a bigger role in their offense than he does. And i'm sitting there washing wool barton kind of buses hump fresh off his injuries for the last couple of years without jamal murray there. I don't love that. i love that. He's handling the ball and getting back into the rhythm of the offense and getting his feet wet again..

Otto porter comes to mind by year three or four and then just never got any better or even regressed. Not saying that's going to happen with mikhail. I've a lot of stock and mikhail bridges but the difference in the kirkland champagne and we'll be the difference between the otto porter outcome and the like kawhi leonard out the best case scenario outcome or whatever which is also a little bit ridiculous. "Think they got someone and otto porter who they thought was probably going to be a mid level guy and they got him on a minimum so they do feel good about that. I honestly think almost be a different conversation among the fanbase if you just signed port of mid because the fans would feel at least good at least we sign them to a mid level. At least we use this acid that we had. I think there's just frustration among fans like we we have this asset that we didn't use and we're in a position where we need to be using all the assets at our disposal and that was their biggest asset in free agency their biggest tool to add talent and given the fact that they're deepen the luxury tax. There's just not a lot of pass. But you know you. And i both route stories about a week ago breaking out why they were unlikely to use the mid level and sometimes it takes actually writing something and doing the indepth research that goes into writing an article to fully understand something and when i wrote that story. It's glaringly apparent to me that made no sense to use the level given the financial repercussions you're looking at at at whoever they signed to the mid level costing effectively around thirty million dollars when you when you factor in the luxury tax implications you're getting close to the four hundred million dollars threshold between salary and luxury taxes. Bombers has already gone on the record and said if were of our payrolls over four hundred million dollars and we don't want time will actually get fired right. And so bob come on like don't say that dozen public. I'm all about transparency. But i appreciate it because edify their decision making now like that months ago. Whereas we're looking at that and i'll be like oh. We should've known this could happen. Yeah they those ways. They could've avoided that four hundred million dollar mark even in using the mid level exception right If they don't carry fifteen guys on that.

"You're going to be able to find minutes for all of those guys at that position. I think it's gonna be tough especially considering they wanna get off the minutes. I just i feel like there is something there that could potentially bring in a wing potentially bring in another guard. They could still use some playmaking they could still use. I don't know where where they're going to go the stuff they've got three centers who command playing time to i mean gifford was great for them down the stretch Thomas bryant and mantras herald or a little bit redundant they kind of give you a lot of the same stuff energy. They're screening role guys. Brian can shoot the three but he's going to miss the beginning of this year so we don't know his exact timetable coming off in asia. I liked thomas brian. I think he's made again. The questions are always going to be defense and rebounding with him. I think he's gotten incrementally better at those things but not better enough that you trust him to really anchor a playoff team for twenty five minutes. A game but offensively. He's he's got a chance to be really dynamic. Offensively i mean. He shot seventy five percent at the rim two years in a row and remember his rookie year. He shot something. Like seventy eight or seventy nine percent at the rim and i was wondering that is that a sustainable thing for him and he came out his second year when he was dealing with foot injuries to and he did it again a second year. He's he's not this guy who's going to finish over you very often. But he's really skilled finishing around the rim sets good screens rolls really hard and you talk about propping up regular season another way that you can prop up. A regular season is just have have have guys who play really really hard even when they're going up against the pistons in mid february and it's the second night of back to back. I think bryant is one of those guys. He's very helpful from that perspective. In the regular season. And i think herald is one of those guys to where he can help you for an eighty two game slate. Also a so. I think at least off the bat they'll have gaffer they'll have herro assuming there are no moves made there and then they kind of just have a situation where the three centres can you imagine if they play a three center rotation for the second year in a row.
