"Got. this question here from Michael French? What's up Mike at Fluffy. Underscore nuts should the military start recruiting street magicians for special, unit. Oh. I don't hate that donate that I don't know what they. Can't beat them masters of deception. Yeah. Sleight of hand as a sick perkin called her. Yeah. I feel like there's something that you could do with the magician unit is definitely is definitely like a specific. This is a Netflix show I feel like that team could be. The Intel team on the streets over there on like Pakistan or Iraq, right. Trust more than a street magician. no-one impressive. Every person you've ever met right put I. Don't hate it. He doesn't say that it necessarily would be practically every see. Now you see me they were doing everything they can. They were real magic though I don't remember that movie. All right. This question I think there's a lot you could do they're like. Just tricks and smoke and mirrors and just fool and people or destroying every like what's one thing that you walking down the street going to draw you into a crowd a character. Besides a caricature is that body not you go away from the dead body the three Titian go forward dead body runaway the three card Monte someone doing a character of dead body that's called a outline chalk outline guy three card Monte thing. Yeah. Don't do you get skate you're not GonNa Win I. Would Win that. Now you won't wait. You've never seen a crowd surrounding body Spiderman when Uncle Ben get shot everyone swarming him anyway one David Blaine. You're going through and you're GONNA see what? Happens about well up to you and get all the bad guys go where the hanging out like Oh shit a magician. Let's go check it out there all encapsulated and then you have you know one of the American sniper in the back taken heads I, feel like there's just an easier way maybe the magician unit isn't necessarily humane. It sounds too complicated but if they want to if anyone can pull it off I was GonNa get S- nights just my mind and my own business I'd rather be entertained by a magician before and will you get sniped it's not GonNa Matter Sock if yeah, if you were doing. Your shoe and it's my car to my. Mind blown lego mind blown. This question here from Jacob Jacob. The pig what movie would be greatly improved. If it was made into a TV series, I would probably say screed. There you go. Any. Shot caller starring Nicolaj coster Waldo. This was one of your favorite movies, right? Yeah. Do. You think that this idea proved. Yeah. Yeah, you can story are a little longer. Yeah. Well, there's some movies that just doesn't work for where they make into TV show show like good movies. I didn't in your snow but yeah now that happens a lot. Well, it's even like when you said that the exorcist merits character should have a whole prequel series. It's if you could do it the right way. But it's it's always hard to take premise and stretch it out for ten to twenty minutes. I Have A, we have follow someone on twitter and he's always talking about how twin peaks return. It pisses him off when people call it a movie and I. I, kind of understand that because he came into it knowing that he would have eighteen hours and. Your standard movies usually one and a half to three. So it is different and I think there's such a big gap man. So crazy like I, I think men in black could be a fun comedy show on HBO. Yeah. Yeah Man. That's a good choice. Yeah. Better yet like what would be something I mean there are examples like you said as well just. I think Batman I think a lot of these superhero characters would be better off on TV Batman Man will be fun give him a new detective story of the week, but that was a good question. Jake this one here from Andy, what do you think is the future of movie theaters do you think it will go back to how it was before covert or do you think theaters will be more like I pick when you have to pay extra money for experience private separate pods a negative theaters can last long enough obviously could go back to normal, but it doesn't look like normal is coming anytime soon. Which is upsetting? Well we just been right. We did open and we've got some new releases, some old releases. Making less, long. Until of solid vaccine and Rebecca normal unfortunately. I. Think it's so many ways. There's so many things working against movie theaters at this very moment and like we said the pandemic Kinda just sped it up but the stories have become better on TV as well. it's less expensive to sign up for streaming service than it is to go to the movies could just be like a they. Might. Just evolve into something where at smaller always have that option. It's like does not as many theaters and most every movies come out streaming but you know for certain movies, you could still see him in a theater which is not as widespread and I'm going to a drive-in Next week we're movie we'RE GONNA see back to the future alkyl. Nice. That's awesome in Brooklyn Skyline Skyline Chili. No. I it's. It's. So it's so annoying. I just started using like I started to abuse I feel like the movie I was saying like three or four movies a month. Which is a lot dancer. Theaters. Broke. Yeah for Teddy that is like a hell of Iran member og movie pass Sarda get heavy and you guys but or you that's much dead. That was a big problem was that you think ten dollars a month for unlimited movies. A fucking time to be alive that was when we should've known twenty twenty. Wisconsin was. The future of the payback. Wait a minute. Yeah. For All the people who exploited movie pass it was such a great couple months I got on the train. So fucking late and others. Greta until the day I die the we did get on lead but I thought it was like too good to be true like. A month. It is it was absolutely incredible. That was fun. So many movies. Pass and like the AMC and the Regal. It's fine. The twenty dollars a month. That's really the same thing. But there is something about the movie pass Your Own Little Credit Card did take a picture of the ticket to make sure weren't lying. It just felt right I think you're gonNA rely on more things like subscription services for theaters going forward, I. Think there's going to be a bigger push towards that to get people back in theaters. I don't know how the money is going to work out but like for us, no brainer twenty dollars a month for unlimited movies. You know what does that three movies and it's worth it right there plus all the rewards you get i. Don't know maybe if you try to branch off into a wider audience people that like the whole gym membership, pay twenty dollars never go to the gym that is making money off of people who are not going maybe try to do that because people aren't going to go and spend no money maybe just try to get twenty dollars a month from them for them to see one I don't know. Yeah. He had to be innovative maybe lower. Especially after this, you're gonNA have to do something new lower concession prices try to do something where I bring it up all the time. It's a point campy as made for years Robert Downey Junior I love him the rock love you Tom Cruise your great. No one deserves twenty million dollars to be in the movie economically that's the economics of education whenever people say this athletes overpaid no, he's not the economic say that's exactly what he should get a quarterback should get.

"It's the original assassins and then it's in the future and there's ancestors go to Egypt and yeah well, they travel through it's like in the movie. The animistic and access pretty sure. It's like the the DNA. Of like you can access your ancestors. Yeah. But the through your DNA can access their memories and basically relive their life through any period. It's on it's fucking sick that have you see the movie? Yeah. Bad, right yeah. They spend too much time in in. The real world was the worst part of the fucking video games. Yeah. It was it was one of the most blam movies I've ever seen in my life. So at Christmas Day why don't you just can't says his are up to back day. You know it's pretty crazy that like they survived. That all, that's why I'm here. One false move. You know my great. Great. Great. Great. Great. Great Grandfather could've, how'd you? How'd you die back in a day? Can I got a cold black plague teeth? Yeah. Wow. Dude. Your teeth. cleaned. tecate was bad. Sancho up in quicksand childbirth anything really. They could just fucking broke a bone in just I don't know how to fix it see that's why I hate ANTIBAC- people because even if they were correct, do you know what society was like two hundred years ago to? Like do you understand how fragile we are, like you said paper caught dead that's like a in this TV show networks called alone and it's like they've they dropped like fifteen people in Alaska and they got him survive in the Wilderness and almost everyone has to leave because they get food poisoning from eating Bugs. Like. Rabbits that are infected at the league because I got sick know probably I'm thinking about like my aunt like everybody's ancestor probably some real pieces of shit in there too. Oh Yeah. Great. Great. Great grandfather probably a mass murderer not probably a stretch it could have been back in the day it's like the wild west. Random stretch with medieval times. You know everyone is killing everybody. You can go back to any time period. Where would you go troy Egypt eighty I just watched trump. I I just. I just watched the. I watched the secrets of the tomb as I say the name, it's on a new show on Netflix Eric Mattis. Fuckin- joked in that movie, you guys still haven't washed list. Even. Know what that is WHO's a? fucking movie podcast. Oh Yeah you sent a little while ago. Right? It'd be said W 'cause pretentious. Chatter Brad. Pitt. And Eric Bana fucking battling to the death. You should watch billboards Zena like to speak Darren smart brain please awards maybe. You should actually read up in the behind the scenes disaster getting that movie made some miracle. It's as good as it is. Yeah, it's a whole whole thing Let's move on here. sessoms creed Netflix's will anatomy show is also exciting. So that week by accident that I thought I heard that that guy we've by accident, they weren't trying to Italy say maybe they did come out with all those other enemies they were. Coming out whatever you want I thought I heard. Yeah it's exciting for assassin's creed fans and maybe they'll crossover a bit keep the same universe but we will see let's move on here to David Bowie musical bio pic our favorite sub-genre. The musical bio pic the not artist trailer I don't mind musical bio-pics, but this is a falcon. It's an atrocity fought this movie. How? This. I hope negative money. It looks terrible. The trailer itself was pretty bad I was the fact that on. Any of his music they don't have the rights to any of his music what yeah. Important part. Of musical biopic. Mama Papa come and he's one of the greatest artists of all time and you know sadly it's been four years since he passed away he never wanted by opaque and I always say musical bio-pics just listen to his discography everything you want to know about Bowie, is in the music. It's like when people What Lynn I'm I'm serious though. Are you going to learn I'm not trying to be clever here I'm just saying that's how you experience these individuals every musical biopic, it's the same notes but what more do you WanNa know about Bowie what type of fucking Jammy put on his toast that's what I'm talking about like Elton, John bio-pic I don't. I listened to his music I'm a fan of his music is really good. I like Rockin? Yeah. Because it was more like a fantasy musical and the way that they incorporated the music was good and it was fun to watch but other than that. Like his life was a movie, the life of David Bowie was a movie read a book on them or something I. Don't need these movies about musical artists. I don't know if it was just a regular. David. Bowie musical biopic which was inevitable probably in the same way as a Bohemian rhapsody Iraq or something along those lines, it'd be like, yeah, whatever this is expected but the fact that the family that an okay they have no rights to the music that movies looks fucking terrible accidents distasteful but I do want to go back because I'm very upset that you call my point lame because he didn't let me expand on it when people as David Lynch about his movies he goes. Why don't you watch the movie? That's my art. I'm an artist are GONNA. Wash we're GonNa make art about how someone created art when you can just experience the art. He's a musician that was the whole point of his art. I like what you're saying but I kind of your big musical Bob. Look. Got Like obviously a lot of it's safe how they got their start you always have the ticket. The same beats gets cool. I think I think it's fun in some sang Bohemian rhapsody because you hated that movie so much and didn't want it to be nominated for an Oscar. Did it hate Bohemian rhapsody I thought it was not deserving to even to be nominated. I think it's an okay movie but I think in some ways they are corn interesting but I think the way they're. Doing it is just completely like Teddy said, would you say distasteful tasteful there's some aspects like obviously the music's huge part of a musical biopic and I think looking into the like some of the biggest stars in the world getting a little insight into their life I think is intriguing documenting. So what's it about then became uses music if they can't play his music what are they gonNA do. I think they get it. I don't know. That's probably all fake. What? The story of the money. It's about how he discovers his alter ego ziggy stardust. What's your alter ego Bo Oliver Guess. Ted Oh. I'll have to know Eddie. Big. Big. Time. Eddie, what's your to go back the.

"I I. I mean I've Doug if I don't WanNA throw myself under Bush put I also. I definitely feel it. I feel that I'm Hollywood. Is Interesting and I was something that I had to learn for myself going out there and I don't think a lot of people really get it and I always recommend people watch Hollywood shuffle by Robert Townsend. But even watching. That doesn't really get you understanding of what it's like to be rooms with people and everything but Here's another one you were talking about the GIG. I get Zeppelin. I've never talked about this on the show because I didn't know what you know should reveal or whatever but I guess it's good to find talking about now is it. Well listen I you know. I didn't ask for permission. But here's the thing like I. It's not happening anymore. And I don't know the details. You know why this person is not doing the firm anymore. So there's nothing. I can reveal that that anybody chopper because I literally don't know anything I think. The previous part of involved. You is very kind of cool and funny because you know like many many times and I often often get these cokes. They are actually you know producers and filmmakers that called me up specifically because they need certain voice and and I'm I would say often the rich you know. I'm I'm kind of with a little toll on site and also on Obviously I'm on the other side. I'm Palestinian female filmmaker with allow mouth on twitter. And so you know they feel like I have connections to to all authentic voices and so sometimes I mean actually quite often I get a call. Do you know somebody who knows about this. Do you know somebody I can hire. I do know Arab activists. Do you know Arab writers you know. Do you know somebody who's the comic books who's black you know and then I commend you. Scott he said look I want black rider black. You Know Comic Book Specialists Nerd. Who can advice me on this specific storyline? Because I don't feel confident. I can develop it a lot so you follow you. Continue telling people what it was. I now actually forget the Carib does okay was a lexical him. Yo l one day and tells me that she and I knew this already. I knew you were good friends with Dr Barracks in who was the former director of opera. Strange multiversity madness anti directed the first strange and a bunch of other stuff as well and so You look for somebody to work on Doctor. Strange to as a consultant. Because he wants to introduce the character of brother Voodoo and Hoodoo traditionally is a Haitian guy in the comments. And if you read is Thomas saw it is some of the worship over. Most of the time it's just so trifling like. I did a lot of research to get ready for this and it was so trifling just on and on trifle. And so anyway he wanted to bring a minute. He wanted to get it right. So LEXI's like okay. I'll introduce you to start and I talked to what I I still never actually talked to Scott Physically tall to him but we went back and forth with his Assistant me him and his assistant and we were working to set up a call for a few weeks and it just delayed very circumstances and everything and then it started to feel kinda funny and Been the news came out. There was not going to be directing the strange anymore and been on means closest chance to work on a marble film went right on average. I step in horrible about. I say this I have this. I actually think whatever whatever he was going through that Mateen. Vive which again. Honestly I I would totally have. I haven't seen him since then. No I talked him and he wouldn't tell me something like this over tech's right so whatever happened and it seemed to be in the amicable but whatever happened. That made him you know Leave the movie. I don't know anything about but I do believe that whatever it boss it was must have started right after. He asked me to help him find somebody because he's not one who postpones things that I just don't know that about him so that's what. I think that that he asked me to do that. I found somebody I asked you. Everything seemed to be a great fit and then he started postponing stuff. And I think that was the time he was seeing or working out to see You know if if he can still do this movie otherwise he would have had. He probably didn't WanNa do this. Talk with you or and then waste your time. That's what I think. Of course you know. I'm not sure Scott as aware of that. You know You went out hours and days of research. I mean it's all good research that I would do either way but it was a lot of stuff I knew I just wanted to refresh myself said I knew I was like okay. Let me make sure I know what's going on with Nc What needs to be done with them and a lot because Oh my God is so terrible but yeah can you tell me about this character. What's Oh man. Brotherhood was hysterical. He is a his name. Is Jericho Drumm? And he's a black man from Haiti in his original incarnation. It was like he moved away from Haiti and to America and studied medicine and became adopter and he wasn't about that Haiti life anymore. You know he was like all y'all down there you know studying which stopped and his brother gets sick and is dying and his twin brother so he goes home on well. I'm not sure if it's twin brothers sick dying and he goes home to you know. See Him as he's dying and his brothers like you got to become a doctor who are brothers. Do you know does magic Israel and all this stuff and he whatever So he is brother dies and when he dies his spirit like in in Abbott his brother's body Jericho who still alive. So find out that it's real and he has to learn the ways of mysticism to battle these enemies and everything become brother do and it was just real trifling because it was like he taught in proper English until he becomes brother Voodoo and then he starts talking in hasten slang and is it's just really bad a bit I mean it was bad and then even in the more modern stuff when I read it like in the modern stuff he was speaking of Haitian slang even though he his terrified never grown up in Buddha like I mean Haiti like that's just not how he would talk. You know he would have it at the most inefficient family around him. He would still be able to switch language coming language but dialects. You know he'd better codes which as we say but he wasn't any of that it's just not it was not. I mean just to be honest. I did not read any of a Brotherhood book whereas ever inviting won't by the White Dude so that along. Yeah now one that he needed to help via the care have been mistreated like recently brother. Who became a doctor Voodoo and became the source of rain? Like what he took doctor strange position and they were like okay. Let's all from train you know. And he knows the better you know be you know front and center. Now you're GONNA Social Supreme. He was on adventures. Then he becomes source of spring in lease the Adventus. Yes I have to ask your on is The new pictures from Dune were released and everyone immediately went nuts over Oscar Isaac and how listen they have some data and some other Brown people in it so our Vr by them on those lobby Marino acclamations up in their Jason Momoa there A lot of people don't realize I mean what's his name Salomet. Yeah Yeah Yeah can tell you right now that my the Arabs don't like it. That is my question right away. That was my question and I know she knows more on a you know a lot. So if you've been let people.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review
"Star Wars the rise of sky Walker opens in theaters tomorrow the third and final film in the latest Star Wars trilogy the end of the road in so many ways for Star Wars especially for this storyline involving Luke Skywalker which all started with the first Star Wars movie back in nineteen seventy seven which I guess in terms of the Star Wars story is actually the fourth chapter and if you find that a little bit confusing you probably still have absorb some of the famous lines from the movies like use the force or do or do not there is no try or Luke I am your father which I know I know the line is actually no I am your father you can tell I'm sort of like walking a tight rope today because I feel like I have two of the greatest Star Wars fans in front of me right now but outside of that JJ Abrams is the director of the rise of sky Walker and just imagine that kind of pressure he's got the tough job of bringing it all in for a landing as I mentioned chasing Garber and Kathleen Newman remaining they went to a special preview screening of Star Wars yesterday before virtually anybody else they're here live in the studio dying to tell you all about it hello my friends Hey how's it going I feel like I said I don't have any good Star Wars greetings is there a good star was greeting hi yeah Jason is wearing a full tee shirts and has the charger beings Baba bobble head well the characters where's your yak give anything Kathleen you know and it's all in my heart something deep down yeah the forces in me so let's talk about this you get a chance to go to the press screening for the new Star Wars yesterday you guys go to these things all the time dozens even a week Jason where even the jaded film critics of Toronto a little bit excited to see Star Wars I mean look everybody's little **** it only comes of this but I think this is actually pretty good to go into this film with a certain level of trepidation I think that if we go in sort of too excited him to sort of objectivity we should be open to its terms I think that a lot of the film critics don't Nestle do that all the time but I think that most people when I'm with the appropriate level of a mix of objectivity in slate excitement of their there for an event Kevin were you excited I was very excited I got there a little bit later than Jason and I felt a little bit of the excitement but once the movie started it was dead silent like this is not a spoiler but when Landau courtesy and gets on screen for the first time Billy Dee Williams I lost my mind and everyone else is like silent which is what it's about which is a huge advantage I mean that like obviously leasing again with public and this is very much I mean it's like man to man the phones at Taft if you see them press for him to kind of a miserable experience you just have to get used to that but a film like this if you're ever going to see this movie theater on the big screen the because you can with an audience to get in the indictment so let's do it I can tell you I can hear you yelling your radio right now Jason I'll start with you Star Wars the rise of sky Walker how was fine suddenly I called the crime you went on Twitter for those over and it look let's let's be one hundred percent clear this is kind of the second and a half ending we've had we had returned the jet I which ended everything and we had episode three which was supposed to end everything Lucas's and then kind of the last job I had a great ending it's like the work done that of those you should go see it I'm not going to worry about it was the last movie that the the universe was going to be bigger and that we weren't going to be focused on the small story and then within us there was the whole notion that the myth of Scott Walker would continue as you see the kids playing with action figure and the kid who picks up the broom with a force you realize that this is not something that's patcher or matrilineal that is going to be bigger than this one little family we did have a question that comes by way remember these characters you really left we're gonna bring those back and focus entirely on that I'll make the story in some ways smaller so it's galactic in scope and yet smaller narrative scope and that is it's doing what it's supposed to do he was hired to do a job which the cap off this saga and it does it and it's fine but that makes it a little bit less interesting a commitment let's get into that in a second Jason says fine Kathleen I mean I think shockingly Jason I kind of agree here I'm I liked it I was very entertained I had a good time even with the jaded critics who were not like matching my energy level I agree that it's not great there is a fine as to what I do think that there's there's a little bit of like a course correction and that they seem to be doing with the last chat I so yeah he JJ made the world a little smaller and really abandon some of the really interesting stuff that Ryan Johnson had set up in the last chat I which is frustrating and makes it not a great movie I think he was trying to please everybody and trying to please those fans that were so upset at the last I and in doing that the narrative suffered and it's also just trying to be a lot try to be a lot of things to a lot of people and then I think it is in any of those things to anybody for example are two foot to a deep in the weeds and lord knows I cut but the way the blade of grass scene six so when I saw the fact that was not mentioned I'm a little upset and the deal is that let people think that this was structured that they knew exactly we're gonna beat I mean they always talk about Lucas having these twelve movie idea sort of written out for some of these are complete stripped away from looks as vision bat that goes without saying but what happened was JJ wrote the the force awakens as an empty are there was no ending there's going to jail just fantastic to look at openings right everybody knows that what has what he's really good at is setting the stage not traded endings hi everyone also knows self admittedly I mean he got in all those interviews actually talks about how this was going to be real tons of room because then he never was supposed to direct the film right other directions where involved actually like a so the deal is that when he wrote the first film they didn't know where it was going to go and it was one of those hand off it's like I'm going to set up the stage hand it off to you and you're going to finish this the second verse of the song that's what Ryan Johnson does run Johnson took all these ingredients and did something for many of us super interesting in super a complex and did essentially ministry talked about what is it to be found the end of of the force awakens is ray handing a lightsaber Luke Skywalker legally saying let's go and the opening shot of last chat I is illuminated at one yeah the last film the film after that episode eight is Luke Skywalker take fully superimposed over shoulder in other words I've been handing off the story to you and Ryan's first thing he does like let's not worry about this story that's not the interesting thing the interesting thing is getting into the nature the metaphysics of the deeper stuff but the force this film goes okay I can't remember the last thing you said okay we're not going to worry as much about this stuff remember these characters you're like let's get him together with all gonna be the same ship they're all gonna gonna ventures together but I want to point out the Kathy when you say that JJ Abrams who has had the incredibly unenviable task of trying to finish Star Wars trying to and Star Wars I I want to really highlight there that is an unenviable task it's even if you're not great even if you're amazing endings try ending the greatest film franchise in history so how does it do Kathleen as an ending to the Star Wars story that we now I mean I thought it was satisfying it's an it's an ending and it answers a lot of questions and as we know Los fans I feel you like we know that change is not answering questions and doing and ray yam asset is flying in and I think that this is just whether you like this ending and the answers that they give you but they give you answers and they give you a very definitive ending and you know some people already have set hi stag JJ Abrams is over party was trending on Twitter yeah it's I mean no one's gonna be happy about anything but I think that he did a good enough job I was entertained and it is it like a nice wrapped up and is it is no one going to be happy with this look at there's always gonna be people upset about this because we care right through well for lots and lots of reasons to ours is pretty fundamental to popular culture and the people have a vested interest and they have in a typical fan communities not everybody but a very vocal minority believes they have ownership over these characters and when they want things to go at a certain way this feeling as for this film actually goes towards a certain direction of giving them what they want and then they end up not wanting what they will think that they wanted that's one thing but I will say that these two fundamental things about changing his his course one lens flares you dialed the heck down with one foot above is one thing I'm like okay I I love that you love letters was god bless you but there's a big thing is he's a red herring you talk about lost as he's a guy who like put a shark and have a logo on a shark and they only got this has to mean something smoke monster has to mean something that's just his step he's trying to trick you a little bit and this film would be much more interesting of those red herrings were not red herrings but actually things that happened so what happens is he consistently in this film gives you something and it's one of those moments the other two phones have moms like oh my god you can do that all my god you can shoot a laser blast haven't hang in the air that's kind of cool all my god you can take a ship and light speed through another ship I never thought you could do that and this film every moment but there was like oh my god that's don't know let's start back that isn't what you think it was ha ha ha I'd something I went I was gonna say second I was going to say that I thought that was but it was it was actually the opposite of this but it makes me really excited to watch it to figure out what the red hearings are and and or not yeah that's not as well as a good teams but I will say that some of those those on inspiring moments that you felt like we're missing I felt them I felt like I was a kid again watching some of this these action sequences and some of that the lights ever seen her so beautiful and big and yeah will transfer to transport you back to your child because I was going to ask if we what we talked a little bit I should stress to set this up by the way I'm I'm speaking which is a corporate Cathy Newman remaining ever talk about the new Star Wars movie rise of Scott Walker what to do right I think the cast is so strong and I think that Jason alluded to it but putting them together like you've got Oscar Isaac daisy Ridley and John by a guy as fan PO and ray and they're together for most of the film and that is a

"So it's like everything just to kind of everything starts feel like old hat, and the fact that towards the end of shooting when we were saying goodbye very emotional for me. You know, it was such a huge chapter of my life. Even just six years, or whatever it was just was it was a lot and the intensity of it. And the I mean, I it's. mean, it's the biggest films ever, you know, like being being in the mix of that. In the midst of all that was a lot. And so it was and to have JJ comeback and the energy of of the set and the energy of the whole thing was so distinct from the other ones in great great way. I know I'm not going to try and take for anything like real. But I do know what they showed some footage to getting shareholders, something my sense is that we actually get to see you daisy interaction. I mean, we obviously had a snippet of it in the last one Zaki, but freshman interesting you're getting to interact finally with. Yeah. I think we were we were a part in the obviously the first one we never really meet against the very end. And then in the in the second one, we were all in our own adventures, and this one it's great because because we get to go to have some stuff together. Amazing. Another thing you can't really talk about. 'cause you haven't even shot yet. But let's return to for a second just because I'm massively interested in this both on the dune level and the Villaneuva level. Who's obviously like as talented as we've got right now. I don't know. What can you say about this one in terms of working this cast? I love Shalah may Murga sin, but Teesta Brolin. Yeah. Have you ever them? So that's pretty good. So what's what's going to separate? You think from the winch interpretation? What would you when I talked to the he said said, it's surprisingly grounded. Yeah. It's theirs. It's not. It's a dangerous word simple. But it's not that. It's simple. It's just been. It's been it's focused. There's a real focus to the thing because it can spiral into. I mean, there is much that I wanna see Joe rescue. One day. But, but yeah, because it just it's inspired so many things you read the book, and you're like, Wow, I've seen a lot of this stuff, and you realize because everything pilfered from this incredible incredible novel series of novels, so so yeah, I mean, obviously, I don't wanna get into specifics about what happens because I think it's going to be very exciting for people to see not really, no. Approach. Wow. That's a big small. We the saga of Oscars coffee has come to an end. We got you some caffeine. That's not a flat weather. He's about to face. I really have the urge to dunk the Mike into the coffee. We don't. Homestretch anyway. Watching a man unravel. Yes. To really fun, and I'm really excited. Howdy. It's new this whole flat white thing. It's like the English is new for you or the new in the United States, right? Like, even the fact that they're like what size flat white. You have your like idiots. What size you spent a lot of time in England clearly. A lot of time. But brooklyn. Of. Yes. I don't know. Actually, I don't wanna say much of anything. I just wanna say that. It's like, it's got Denny's aesthetics, his sensibility. It's the visuals just from like the books that I've seen are astounding so beautiful and the story I think is one that takes takes so much of the novel focuses it into something that just incredibly impact, right? Not put words in your mouth. But from what my conversation would and others is it sounds like it's it's not the whole book. It's like half the book or something. Yeah. I mean, I think the idea is that that that it'll it'll hopefully spun more entertainment. Content twenty twenty. I couldn't be more excited permanently scarred by the x men apocalypse experience ever do another comic movie. You know, it makes it seem. I was talking about that specific specific element of it. But a bit good aspects..

"I remember I remember there was this one scene. We were doing at Sotheby's the auction house, and she lined up all the extras. I mean, they were like seventy eighty people, and she would just go down the line every with every single one. It'd be like no yes this one, but we need to change this part of their costume this. You know, it was incredibly amount of detail. Also, people we're not gonna see all those people. It's like aren't there? Other things that we. It was just like her attention to detail was astounding and have the energy to do that. She was so energetic, and and really fun than I felt like I don't know. I was really rooting for the whole time because it's just just by the nature of who. She is. There was already so much shit Taft to get through, you know, it's like anybody else that was directing the same movie and made exact same choices would obviously would be looked at so differently. Yeah. So so in that period of time, again, you're working with some really talented filmmakers, obviously, you're more than jogging actor like things are going really well before Lou Davis was there like a moment work felt like it was about to shift in a big way. Or or was losing the first kind of real opportunity in that in that way. To raise your profile Lewin was the first one no there wasn't. I mean, if there was I wasn't aware of it. Or couldn't feel it at all. I mean, I was I remember auditioning for and then just screaming to the heavens. Give me this, please. Please give me this one. Yeah. I mean, I I tried so hard. I did ever possibly could in the. Luckily, luckily that worked out, but yeah, that that changed everything it's an amazing film. It's like their pound for pound, my favorite filmmakers, virtually working today in the last thirty years, and that's what they're better one. So that's pretty good. But one thing I love is also flew into the radar to a certain extent. And frankly for me to even like, I feel like I like many of their films I've appreciated in more than more times. But what I love about them to is like some of the best films like they can and more than willing to cast someone that is kind of a relative unknown like serious man, another one of my favorite MRs to Blake Nelson films like they can get away with that. Because it's it's sold as a cone brothers movie, and they'd do it on a budget, and it just all works. Exactly..

"No, I can't get you just glossing right by detective interesting and going to throw I was on fart, man. That's. We're. Scrub the internet because I cannot find any video from that film. Lenny the wonder dog when he the one dog nothing. Yeah. No. I I remember I was in college in my roommate brought it home. Which to my heart was damn good. If well I mean the secret weapon. Okay. So Juilliard I talked to many actors about Juilliard infamously a tough road for many people. They kind of break you down. It's kind of just part of how it is. So who's your crew Chastain was part of the was she was. In her third year when I was in my first year when I first came in she obviously like had the goods, people course, of course, I mean apart from being staggeringly, you know, just like luminescent. Yes, she was incredible everybody. Everybody knew it. Maquis maquis graduated already. I mean, it's you could still hear screams. For sure for sure. But in my class, there's great great people routine. A- Wesley, and yeah, yeah. Jessica Collins, and no I mean, there is there's. It was it was really intense but beautiful for me. I really really loved it. And I think because I got there. I was a little older a lot of the the the psychological games. Those kind of things they were able to roll off my back kind of easily you've already been beaten down a little bit by exactly. Yeah. Only stripped away all of that. It is. Idealism? So I I was able to kinda take that stuff with a grain of salt, succumbing out of Juilliard. I knew I mean, it seems like it did a bunch of plays. I one really early review. This is two gentlemen of Verona from variety. Do you? Remember this? I remember all this. Yeah. I remember I was like I'm not reading to my family. I don't wanna hear their views. I know one the reviews in my uncle remember called me the next morning. Like, hey, I know you're not reading reviews. I just wanna say I looked up the word impish, and it's not that bad. This one doesn't cite impish. It's it's got a little bit of everything before the last one was I was walking out walking after one of the shows one of the ushers came up. And he's like, hey, we watch all of us all working relive what you're doing so good. And we all kind of sit down and watch it every night. Oh, well, thank you. Yeah. Mean don't listen to the voice? On care what everybody's saying. We. Yeah. Variety said recent Juilliard, grad Isaac, a suitably slides the opportunistic and morally protean protease, but as vocals could be stronger, and he plays the double crossing cat touch too. Touch to say, wow. That would not fly in the current climate. Just fair enough. Give me more fan. Okay. So we don't have time to talk about everything. But in the years before goon Davis, you're working with amazing filmmakers, I mean, you work with Ridley Scott a couple of times to being of legend, Catherine Hardwick, Ridley gave me my first big big shot. So yeah, I was going to say which of those films felt like oh shit. Like, this is a big transition wise robinhood, which one talking no body lies came first. But no, it was it was Robin Hood because because of the role King, John because it wasn't you know, the six six ethnic guy in the casino. It was like just the amount of trust that he had to me someone that was I was an English. Yeah. Yeah. And and yeah that we did body lies in from that. He could see me as king. John was just like, I couldn't believe it. It was so incredible. And really have so much so much affection for him. Yeah. What's your one of the few actors had the privilege of directed by Madonna? Yes. Who sent like filmmaker? She was she was on it, man. She was incredible..

"So I'm just like oh my God. How could we not have that? But really, it's my father. My father was a musician as well. He was what was playing guitar. He was in bands. He would record music and write musical the time. He was a stereo file. And so as constant new component stereo pieces coming into suddenly be like what the hell is that? That's a speaker, really. Because you're always remember even for that. He was really into that for a long time. I'm afraid to say that I have inherited this quality. That's what I did was my first few paychecks. Keep. What are the cables? Latest cable. Run this over here around. So. And then he also would make movies with his brothers. He had like a super eight and he was like movies with his brothers. And then we got a video camera. And so we would make movies together. And then I started taking my dad's video camera making moves with my friends. And so that really was it and both my mother and father never once or like, you need to do this or you should pay more attention to that. They just like. Encouragements and freedom. Yeah. So you like like me a child of the eighties bigger influence Pacino or van Damme. Growing up equal it, really. Yeah. Van dam. I gotta say I love I've got. Yeah. I been one of his. I remember. Yeah. Let's peak van Damme for you. I remember I remember really getting close and trying often to do the straddle. With like a poll, it was kind of like a pull dance, really. But I really was intent on for those that can't see Oscar right now, he's actually doing the splits. Well. Can get get help you. Okay. He's. That's. Something came out. What are we peak men down? Double in blood, bore blood sport cyborgs, always gonna really it always is going to have a special place, but say blood for blood bloodsport cyborg kickboxer, those kind of those three were do late not late by that ear standards time cop time cups, an actual decent movie. Yeah. As director Peter Himes is actually decent feeling. I know I started. It's sorted sorted. I think at that point in Israel's came out, and I kind of came more more of that kind of guy Sam. Sam I know I know. Something. And still pure luck while Winstons or. So so when do you do the filmmaking tastes kind of mature? When do you kind of go to the dog afternoons Matt's Mets? dog. We'll see my dad would always bring like I remember it was so exciting because every Friday night he'd come home with a new Brown case from the video store, and we had a Betamax, and that's Crotty kid never ending story. And then, you know, like deer hunter may Rick. Yeah. So that kind of that kind of sorted. I'd say like eleven twelve okay. You know? Yeah. Dad sweet spot of seeing the movie that you're just a couple years too young actually see that will impact last scar. You and the I I think the first one that really was like, oh my God. Legend was the one that kind of made me really get excited about acting because I realize that the same actor that was the devil was also the Butler include that realization was like it was staggering blew my little kid mind later, you wore the exact same prosthetics and x men apocalypse. The exact same. Yeah. I know. I know I know that was a while. I started reading about how he'd have to be in this bath of like, whatever it was to get all the glue off it sound awful. From what I gather. Was brutal. Similarly. But anyway, so yeah. And then and then it was the mission. I think the mission became like my first real serious boring favorite movie, but great music Nelson task anymore. Tune is that. Soundtracks incredible. And it's still one of my favorite movies..

"Home. It's on your TV. It is waiting for you right now check it out triple frontier. But as I said we cover a lot of ground in this conversation. Oscar for a little background was born Guatemala raised in Miami came through New York to the infamous Juilliard school like maybe the most prestigious acting school in the states got to know are another one of my favorites. Jessica Chastain here did a lot of theater, and then did a bunch of cool films. And then exploded thanks to being cast in the lead in inside. Lou Davis that classic cone brothers movie and since then so many huge opportunities for him. Of course, he stars in the. The Star Wars films as PO Damron. Yes, we talk about episode nine a bit in this. He starred as Pakalitha x-men apocalypse. We talk a lot about that. And why that role was so meaningful for him in why it was also kind of took a toll on him. And we talk about his upcoming stints with dunevich nerve in film. I've talked about a lot on this podcast his upcoming reimagining reinterpretation of dune, and I could not be more excited about that one. That's of course, Timothy shallow may and Josh grown heavier and Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac so yes, we tease a little bit about what's to come in dune. So oh, and I should mention a lot of people got really excited about Oscar talking about metal gear solid. We talked quite a bit fair bit about that in this conversation too. So something for everyone in this chat. I hope you guys enjoyed as much as I did remember to review rate and subscribe to happy sad confused. Used spread the good word. There is a lot of good things of foot. Wada, good things happening on the podcast and in my MTV and comedy central shenanigans. Just did a really cool extensive sit down interview for MTV with Jordan Peele, director of us and get out. That's going to be online very soon. I will of course that out on my social media, Joshua Horowitz. Yeah. Some really cool stuff and some some events out of town coming up their Star Wars celebration around the corner there cinema Kahn, which is always a lot of fun Las Vegas. So yeah, they're keeping busy here. But all in a good way and all hopefully for your amusement and enjoyment. So that's about it. I hope you guys. Enjoy this chat with Oscar Isaac. Mr. Oscar Isaac has invaded my space. Welcome, sir. Lou. It's good to see man. Thanks anchors YouTube into this feeling slighted because you are a local, and you do work a lot. But I guess that's the problem. You're working like you probably actually aren't here that much anymore. I'm not. I mean, this is this is the first time I've been here for this long. I've been home for January. Oh, that's amazing. Yeah. Yeah. So you're living an actual human human human man that neither go work. You're doing. I'm not to be a human, man. I need to just fantastic. It's been great. Yeah. It's been really great. And I, you know, taking a lot of the year awful be traveling to Iraq as soon, but until then just get the we were speaking out before the Mike started about dune, which I couldn't be more excited. I the poster Evan here at emitted impact on me as a kid. We'll we'll get to that in a bit. There's a lot to talk about triple frontier new film. I really enjoyed this one. I'm a big fan of JC Chandler who obviously worked. Before on the the brilliant yet. Not I think probably not enough people ever saw. It's a most violent year back in check it out. Probably a Netflix to possibly. So so let's let's start with triple frontier. This is a hell of accounts this one of the scripts that's been like around remember following this every actor worth salts wanted in on this one when you finally read the script for this. And I beat them ause. That's fight club of accuracy. I was like eighth string. I was deep. You totally deep deep on the bench on this. But when you when you did get your hands on the script where you're like. Oh, I get it. I get why so many actors wanted to get a part of this one..

"They should grab it someday. They carted that money through the mountains losing one of their own only to realize that they had to rid themselves of its weight leaguer literally and figuratively to survive. And what money they did collect they didn't keep? So then why does the film prevent present? Finding the money in such a jovial. Tone. If you're gonna make moralistic tale. I find it odd to leave on such a note. I was not I never got the sense that he was like a we need to do this. He's more like I'm passing on the weight of this this guilt to you. You know, like, oh that that is not at all. However, I mean, I didn't think it was a jovial is not the word I would use either. But certainly it was kind of like a kind of like a if you ever wanted I wanted to ask ask you. you like a bad ending mental like review up like eight get ready for triple frontier to you know, like, oh, man. It is like the ending of the ring. Okay. Like, it is we thought we think it's all over. And now all of a sudden like, oh, we we could just like clear conscience, we can like forget about this money forever. And I think it's interesting that, you know, they it's not I don't think Charlie Hunnam character saying I need to go get this because he is the first one to give up the money like he he is washing his hands of all of this. But that money is still there. And I think it's interesting. He's just like giving Oscar Isaac the choice. You do with this information. What you will? But then it presents to us like, yeah. Be curse of this greed is going to continue unless he gets rid of it. I Don't don't know. know. I don't know the movie had has messy loose ends, right? Yes. The only other objective. They had was to kill Loria. And he's completely absent from the movie. Like, it's I love that they constantly have this like wh how why wasn't he there was there? He was killed him. And that's a panic room. Jeff. I felt that wasn't him. And I thought they a Oscar Isaac was lying. No said, he's dead. But he wasn't saying the girl approached earlier, I will say I will say this. I actually had a thought in my head that like like Oscar Isaac is so obsessed with killing Lereah that I almost fought to myself. Maybe that's not Lereah, and maybe Oscar Isaac is Lereah, and that's his like body double and like he's going to kill him to like make. It seem like Lori is like like Oscar Isaac is the bad guy. Somehow if at night is like, yeah. That was in my opinion that would have been much interesting movie. Instead, it's just bad storytelling. Which is like that. You have this bad guy who has essentially no introduction. And it's like, hey is this li-? This is lie that these movies. Tell of like, hey, if we kill this one dude everything's gonna get a lot better. When we've seen from like, you know, reality and even fiction like the wire that that's not how it were. Works right. Like, you just because you kill one, dude. It doesn't mean that it's going to solve all the drug problems of his area. And that's the way that Oscar Isaac frames that Oscar said he says, he I think somebody told this to him like he was there for several years trying to help this country. And I think they really established which when he's in. But he is there and you see him like even in that opening sequence where like the cops end up just executing the people that they capture like he he's a part of this. But also, you know, it seems like he's tired of the shit. He actually wants to make a difference. I think he really believes the character believes this will make a difference. Of course, we know based on other movies, we've seen everything, but that's not the case. But I think like a guy who's been there for two years and just wants to like actually kill, you know, something or to do something that'll help the country potentially. Like, I could see him having the school..

And you're wondering what's coming up in March Harley and bomb those all she's the USA they reporter tracks. This for us every month and Carly L people some of the highlights from arch. Yes, says everyone knows net flicks releases its list of new titles a little bit ahead of the first of the month. So we have it. Now. You know, there's a lot. There's a lot coming a lot of original movies. A lot of original series. Give you some. Let's do a headline. Yeah. Okay. Well, if you're looking for something with big name talent, I can give you some. Movies that have some A-List stars? For example. There's this action film called triple frontier. Ben Affleck's in it. Oscar Isaac Senate, Charlie Hunnam Garrett. Hedlund Petra Pasco another movie with big names is the highway men. That's starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. Both of these movies are coming to Netflix in March and also getting theatrical releases kind of like they did with three weeks. I don't yet know the full theatrical these plans, right? So I don't know if they're going to do the same exact plan as Roma, but they are doing a theatrical release some other things we have coming up. Our new seasons of shows. You might remember. For example, queer eye is coming back for a third season. The show arrested development has more episodes coming. Something else that I'm interested in checking out are some comedy specials, including one from Amy Schumer. She has one called growing, which I think is a reference to her growing family and her growing belly she's pregnant she she got married. She's going to be talking about that. She had an athlete special a couple of years ago. That was a little controversial talked a lot about sex. But she's back with this new one. She has a billboard on Sunset Boulevard. To promote the special. So you already knew why news new she had to billboard. What's the last? Great thing you saw on that flex. I finally watched Roma. So I I saw it on the couch on the TV I know everyone here in L A. I don't know if he overheard this conversation dozens of time if you're gonna see Roma see it on a big screen. I get that. But it is ni-. It is nice to be able to choose and finding a big screen would be hard because it came and went pretty right? That's right. Right. So did you enjoy Rama? I did enjoy Roma. Would I say it's my favorite movie of the year? No, it was my favorite movie of the year. Did I watch it and truly appreciate? Director genius who pulled from his own childhood experience and produce something beautiful. Yes. Did I get a little sleepy? Sure. Okay. Well, this podcast episode is going to run the day after the Oscars. We're recording it before the Oscars, and since you mentioned your favorite movie there. I gotta ask what was it? I don't know if I have a favor of the the first one that comes to mind is a movie called free solo. This is a movie that's up for best documentary, photography, probably. And I think a few other awards. Is is the story of a climber. Alex hulled and his free solo. Meaning he climbed without ropes. Yeah. In Yosemite, and not only is it a compelling story. Just on paper about someone who just decides to have this outrageous dream and against all odds. Go for it, but visually it is unbelievable because they have shots, you know, above him below him. The the people who shot this are professional climbers work through some me. Well, I wouldn't say that he's climbing there climbing. Yeah. But they had separate tracks. And they were on Rove's, but they're carrying heavy equipment, and they have to climb. So it is beautiful. This is something. I would see an Athenian. Okay. My pick would be BG. Oh, yeah. The Brilliance of Amazon's Homecoming Series
"All right. We are back. We're talking about homecoming season one. I mean, I don't even know if there's going to be a season two, but with homecoming new show in Amazon it's directed by front of the pods. Same as mail. It's a based on a podcast from allied Horowitz. And Michael Bloomberg that was Gimblett couple years ago. And the the podcast major parts were played by Catherine keener, voiced by Catherine keener, Oscar Isaac and David trimmer in the Amazon television show version of it. We have a show starring Julia Roberts, which I never thought if you told me ten years ago that Julia Roberts will be on an Amazon show. Just really confused two thousand eight me. Julia Roberts, Bobby volley. Hey, chris. Yeah. I've got a couple of other. Chris would really yeah. Yeah. I know we can get say that for for next next episode way to tell him podcast go. Yeah. So we have a home. Julia roberts. Stephen, James, Bobby, volley and shea Wiggham among others. And it's ten episode show ended I talked a little bit about it as a preview last week. So we're just gonna talk about the first five episodes today in the second five the the back half of the show on Thursday. So there will be spoilers. Yes. There will. Episode boilers mandatory, pineapple optics Redwood, and helping the episodes we're talking about and everyone here are the usual caveats. You should know that I'm recording this from s milk work right now. Yes, we're all the people Chris mentioned except for Julia Roberts J William or ended office right now having a meeting I think about season two. I am clearly an untrustworthy voice. But I do think it's noteworthy television show. And I am eager to talk about it. But understand you take all take the bucks, kosher salt. You have in your kitchen and just pour it all over whatever device used to listen to this podcast on. Yeah. Well, we so I feel like we just talked a lot about sort of the extra curricular things around television show with Walking Dead without actually talking about Walking Dead. So I wanna start rather than talking about the impact this show has had or what it means within the Amazon ecosystem or whatever logistic about the show itself. How's that rate? You you you leave me there? Okay. Again, not trying to blow smoke up SAM's ask. But I am really in all of what he pulled off here. Because forget I actually didn't listen to the podcast. So I can't even speak to what it must be like to adapt. What is essentially this? This long form audio story for TV. I can't I can't evaluate what I think he's done here. And we talked a little bit about. The effectiveness of the half hour thriller drama, and how that gave us kind of like remixed are brainwaves a little bit. It kinda kinda got wires crossed in a way that was really exciting. Because you're basically, I think when you're watching television show that takes at least an hour, and you know, it's drama, you kind of your your mind knows that there are going to be these peaks and valleys these lulls, you know, how they're setting things up around the three five x structure, you kind of have a feeling for how you're watching these shows if you're watching Ozark if you're watching hunting and Phil house, if you're watching a sharp objects there is of no matter how different these shows are there's a vibe to them. And there is a a tempo that comes along with an hour long show by compressing the drama and tension into anywhere from twenty seven to thirty one to forty one minutes. Sam's kind of manipulating your reactions. To the story. And the story itself is not I don't find it to be that complicated. It's not that Abrahams e it's not that mystery box. Obviously, there's a lot of central mysteries. But what I think he's done here is taking seventies paranoia cinema. Which is something that a lot of people like to reference, I think famously Andy always joked about how the Rousseau's talked about the influence of like all the president's men in parallel view on winter soldier. And we joked about that..

"Okay so this two of oscar isaac end the original copy killed himself themselves the phosphorous grenade mmhmm but i never got the impression that that was her clone i thought that oh yeah regional lena or original natalie portman scar originally net but also original lena transport hey thanks hatchet chain exact i yeah i wrote about the supergiant ad i think the ending i i think that there is there are some merit to the idea that it is the cloning but then the whole thing is an unreliable narrator and i think that i don't think that that theory follows through because when the oscar isaac loan came back he didn't remember much about his life before the shimer he remember where he lived in he remembered her face but like and let her name but like nothing else really byatti bustle there right but lina is giving like a very thorough breakdown of what happened and she spent less time in this chamber so i think it's unlikely that it's our clown i think instead that it is like the nightmare bear where our when she killed whatever this entity was she took a piece of it with her and we already know is in her blood and all the suits it's established that there's something of the schumer is now inside her i'm less clear on why the shimer following a pieces all of a sudden are scarred by oscar isaac clone is okay uh i didn't follow that logic and uh i did read about what happens in the book and hopes that that might give me a clue but they're both very different ending so i i think it's i think it's they'd garlichs karlin is not looking for you to find the details in that specific away this is a much more cerebal brand sifi i do want to say that i think dalton's a convert of email which i did read in full um is i think it's a very good take on the film and and i completely appreciate that you know people are pulling different things from this and um i think b a conversation about depression is a very solid reading of the film industry me i didn't react to it i think omb vote for me this movie is like mother v dern off.
