"Like some flashes in denver. But he's been doing stuff in in orlando. it's been fun with the ball in his hands. And i don't know entirely what to think of it. But what if what have you thought so. Far what he's brought yet last night felt a little bit like a coming out party for He got his first career. Start in the league came against his former team in a career high sixteen points. The knocked down wasn't just athleticism bounce. Which is obviously like the most exciting part of his game. You knocked down to threes. He made an incredible hustle play where he chased down a rebound in dove out of bounds. Threw it back in repositioned for a corner. Three in knocked down or to the nuggets to call timeout. He's also had value of yes is now has just nasty but well he's kind of a somewhat of a flyer in terms of potential because orlando got back. Rj hampton gary harris in twenty twenty-five protected. I from denver for aaron gordon in my immediate reaction was that it felt like a poop platter of aspe- where it's like you know these three things. There's like five percent ten percent chance that this is a asset or it could also be nothing but we don't know but that's that's kind of what. I felt that i've actually kind of become more a little more optimistic. Since the trade went down in terms of return that orlando got. Because if i if our jake is a bona fide starter let alone a rotation player further landau and they get a first round pick. That ended up only being top five protected from denver. That's pretty fair about value. Let alone if gary turns into you. Know rekindled Defensive yeah definitely. I think that's a good point I still felt like. I mean my immediate reaction was definitely the same like i thought like. Wow that's all. They ended up getting for ag remember. I think it was immer. Was the boston globe or or boston. Herald that reported that A any of the starting prices for inborn randomly to i And then so. We ended up seeing nagy. Yeah that's probably may be negative to was. I mean maybe the trade market wasn't as big as we thought button..

"Jennifer. Welcome to status. Go thanks jen. I'm really happy to be here today. I am really excited about our conversation. I know you and i had an opportunity to chat. Gosh probably towards china last year now About the work that you're doing so i'm looking forward to our audience being able to hear about the exciting things that you're doing but before we get started you've been holding out on me a bit. When we first talked you shared a bit about your background as an executive in the insurance industry. Why she didn't share was that your career started in sports marketing. And you've worked for the likes of the orlando magic the sonics and the storm. You have to tell us about your journey from sports marketing to insurance and now to the executive director of apprently. No that's a long sordid story so let's see the My background in sports Originated with my dad. My dad did play by play for the royals. And the chiefs and Then went on to. Cincinnati was third man on the reds in the early eighties. On wwl w and. I just grew up in sports and it was kind of a natural offset for me When i went into the insurance industry. I actually started off as a media. Buyer my first stop With progressive insurance. And cleveland and i went very quickly from doing media buying into running north america. Marketing event. marketing and sports. Marketing basically auditing fifty states at a stage where progressive in the nineties was trying to figure out its brand identity and that just sort of became the tipping point of the the spot where my sports endeavors began and before the nba. I worked for scott. Boris representing baseball players. When i left progressive and did marketing endorsements for those guys. It sort of seesawed between professional sports and insurance In in a kind of weird way because you know insurance and car dealers and everybody else spend so much. Money in sports marketing. It made me a strangely hot commodity. Because i understood the business side of it.

Lakers Defeat Magic 96-93

"Trevor Lane here for lakersnation.com. This is the lakersnation.com live postgame show the Lakers did pick up the wind against the Orlando Magic nothing magical about it. That was not a pretty basketball game. But at least they won. So we'll take that in this guy named Andre Drummond on the way. So not a bad day overall joining me tonight. Ron government from liquidation.com Ron. How are you doing, man? You know I'm doing well might need to cleanse my my basketball palette after that. That was one of the uglier games. I've seen in recent memory, but you know, what winds are winds we have to say that yeah, you know when we were coming into this game, I looked at this by the way final score 96-93 Lakers Lakers magic shot 39% from the way the Lakers shot 42% and 28% from 3. The paint on the rims is chipped off no doubt at this point, but we I came into this game thinking. This is a must-win

"As well. But let us discuss. Everyone loves playing the winners and losers game, But I do it all differently. I do well differently here. I have as a teacher. I have a report card book. I'd like to give report cards. Also what grades? He was the question. What grade? Did you give out the key trades in the MBA? Now there's on. Lee won a plus trade at the deadline. There's only one trade here that rises to the A plus level, and that's the Clippers. The Clippers get an A plus the bulls get I'm I give the Bulls of B. For their trade, the heat and the Celtics. I'm going. See, I'm going to see on that. And I'm gonna be the devil's advocate guy with the Nuggets. I'm not like the mainstream basketball media was not overly impressed with the Nuggets trace. I'll give that a D, and there's a bunch of APS. Better storing the losing locker room, the Orlando Magic Houston Rockets, New Orleans pelicans, the Toronto wrapped oars, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. All get f C F F F F F F for you and half for you. And As for you, you in the back, you failed also. At that. Beth! Beth! Beth! Beth Beth. All right, So my thoughts on this You've got Dr Doritos and dunce cap the three days and we will tie all of these things together in an adequate. Adequate valor monologue. Now a the N betrayed deadline I will concede lived up actually exceeded my very low expectations. One of the great things about being a cynic and a skeptic. When you have low expectations. Occasionally, it doesn't take much to impress you. It doesn't happen very often. So let's enjoy it, and we're gonna roll up our Proverbial sleeves here and and get the worst. We'll start out with the on Lee, a trader today the people's team making the trade with the Atlanta Hawks, and it seemed to the uneducated basketball fan. Like a rather an Oculus deal. At first glance, the Clippers sending sweet Lou Sweet Lou Williams. Great six man back in his prime and some meaningless second round picks to the A. T. Trade Deadline Reaction with NBA Front Office Insider for ESPN, Bobby Marks

"Are doing a trade deadline. Wrap up with the one and only bobby marks who is in bristol. I forget what bristol even looks like. Let's wrap up. What turned out to be. I guess kind of sneaky fun. Trade deadline bobby. How are you. I'm good zach. How are you yeah. We We had nothing besides fianna cap'n galley in money. Money saving deal for the clips would actually help them get guess The rondo deal game a little bit of money and then we had the two. Am the lawn. Reiko cory joseph swapped and i slept right through that were stuck right through the delong. Something was telling me. Wake up. Wake up and i woke up and i saw and i was like i said one of these videos. I've been doing. It wasn't like the bias. Harris remember tobias harris straight from a couple years ago where it happened like in the middle of the night and i woke up at like six. And i'm like oh my god. What just happened here. Like i missed it I woke up. I talked about it a little bit. And then i had a hard time back asleep. Well the headliner didn't get traded. And that's kyle lowry but let's start with the orlando magic. Because i can no longer make fun to them by calling them the orlando inertia because they traded everyone and they are going to be so bad when they next play which could be tonight. I don't even know else playing tonight that they are obviously positioning themselves. To go full rebuild. Bow and get a shot at kate cunningham. Whoever's next seat next year skate cunningham their biggest deal let's start with butchnevich to chicago for twenty twenty one. I at twenty twenty three. I and wendell carter junior and otto porter. What were your thoughts on that. Because i didn't think i was gonna get traded. And i thought if he did the price would be even higher than this and i was skeptical that anyone would offer them that kind of pressure i did. I didn't think a deal what happened. What do you think about this from either either perspective. I don't care which one to start with. Yeah i mean. I think for I thought it was going to be three ones. If you're going to get in the game for a reverse first rounder. Three first rounders. I thought that's what it was. And i guess if you're landau i guess you're quite that the wendel carter junior the pickup equates to a first round although he's got two years you know he's going into an extension year so it's not like you get clean slate with him.

Lakers Upcoming Game Against the Cavaliers a Must-Win

"Lakers on Friday play the Cavs and on Sunday play the magic Yep. This is the first time ever that a Friday and Sunday game in March against the Cavaliers and Orlando Magic. I will consider must-wins. They gotta win at least one of those two games for me to have any sense of confidence about the team without LeBron and AD, you know, buy them the Lakers might have some new pieces, you know, there might be a different look of things. But yeah the first time in history a Friday and Sunday game in March against two of the worst teams in the league will be considered most wins. Yeah. I completely agree with you. If you look at the schedule that's coming up those those are two of the lighter games the Lakers get then they get the bugs they get the Kings and then right after that. It's just a murderer's row of teams and given, you know, we don't really have a clear timeline on when they D and LeBron will be back like what Ron said those games are kind of month. End of the Lakers want to tread water and stay afloat in the standings because you don't want them slipping all the way down to six seven eight. Now you're talking about playing tournament which you know, I wouldn't be concerned about it. But Lakers are healthy, but given, you know, the covid-19 pet demek the injury that the injuries are being sustained so far. You just never know. So the Lakers just need to find ways to scrap together wins in the mean time tonight. Not a good showing and does not inspire a lot of confidence, but you know crazy things happened. So we'll see. I also just want to throw in that, you know, the trade deadline is Thursday. So maybe guys today we're a little stressed out or worried about that. So maybe that wage muted. I don't know. But yeah, we'll see we we just need to scrap together wins and those games on Friday and Sunday Kind of almost must win at this point. Darn

NBA Contenders vs. Pretenders: Who's Who This Season?

"Difficult do you think it's going to be this year to determine the pretenders birth? The contenders right like Orlando right now is 5 and to like I don't like Orlando is going to be tough and competitive because Steve Clifford, it's just not going to allow them to be anything else. But trying to figure out if they're actually like a potential top-six team in the East which is kind of loaded or if they're going to like kind of fall back down to earth feels pretty nice up and I know that a lot of Orlando has been like scheduled based so far. But yeah, I feel like it's going to be really difficult to determine the extent to which like wage each team is who they are. I feel like we're going to need a an even larger sample size than we typically need to determine who is real and who is fake and that Ben Fox numbers over a cleaning the glass where he takes out garbage time. Those are going to get a workout this year. It feels like yeah, exactly.

"So michael. Can you walk us through. How things developed wednesday in orlando. Yeah the milwaukee bucks. Obviously being a team that's closest to kenosha jacob. Blake was paralyzed. They felt an obligation to not play. Considering all that was going on when they showed up to the arena the player landau magic. They had discussed not playing in as the atlanta magic players on the court and they were still warming up but there was no opponent there are orlando magic players heading back into the locker room. According to adrienne coach rousey the bucks had been in serious discussion about boycotting tonight's game nba closer to four o'clock eastern time started getting the word that was going to be a game and the weren't playing around literally they were not playing. They were secluded in their locker room. Trying to find the right words to express in what they were feeling in. This is not just any teen. This was the team with the best record in the nba with the likely to vpn janas. Kubo this is a team that they make a decision like this. This is a very powerful move and so when they finally came out to speak to reporters they basically made it. Clear that you know what's been happening. In the bubble in terms of social justice messaging terms of the jerseys the courts. Everything else just wasn't enough. We're calling for justice. Jacob blake and demand. The officer be held accountable for this to occur. It is imperative for the wisconsin. State legislator to reconvene after months of inaction and take meaningful measures to address issues of police accountability talented and criminal justice reform. Once they decided they weren't gonna play the orlando magic had the opportunity to accept the forfeit. But they didn't accept the forfeit. They are right on board with this movement. They don't wanna play as well. And so the oklahoma city thunder in houston rockets. Were the player. "I think one of the one of the most fun players to wash in the post really good passer for size shoots the ball. Really well Hours excited for him. As much as i wish that orlando orlando surprisingly competitive against milwaukee. I thought you know obviously game one. You win The other games relatively close But i think it was really awesome for me to see us play while considering how he he really struggle against the raptors last year. Then just had a dynamic like incredible series against milwaukee even given the loss What kind where you out on him. Moving forward i know some orlando fans weren't super happy that he got a the deal that he got an i. You know i try again. I mentioned earlier. I always try and stay off lake a facebook. nba talk in the nba. Taco people are always like a little bit too fiery on there. But i think which is just a fantastic player And i think the magic would have been remiss to let them go. Who do you think the two most hated magic players are amongst the families. Oh that's i feel like ten ross up. They're considering how inconsistent is everybody loves terrence. Ross okay so i'm wrong there. Well i assume boots just because he has a big contract and he's not quite a top level star but he's still star so i think it would be him and other maybe dj augustine men. So i'm right right. You are your correct The other guy before day then. Correct correct lucia. -fornia are the guys that match fans hate more than anybody I think in large part because they've been through it all mom and i think every once in a while some of those bad habits players might have developed when they were losing so much Come through but on the front. I think that the biggest problem that people have with him as his defense still. And he's not he's not a world beater defensively but he's been fairly good last. Two years honestly rob butter. They get credit for he is and i think that a lot of that goes to the scheme that steve clifford has instilled with him You know kind of playing centerfield almost not necessarily just staying back on every picking role. They played a little bit differently. Depending on who. It is..

"Yeah yeah. I totally agree with that. I think in in looking at long-term options to look evan for me. I think he's the biggest decision. The magic have to make this offseason. I believe as a player option. No i'm totally incorrect Does it is a player. Option the player option. But he's probably gonna do you think is going to decline because i think he's one of the guys like you look at okay like andre drummond in gordon hayward there's no way they're turning down those numbers but evan -fornia you look at him and you're like okay seventeen million dollars like feasibly with how bad this free agency classes considering like. He's just now hitting his prime twenty seven. Like i could see somebody willing to overpay him a little bit. Okay but but but here here okay. We're do this exercise. Your how many teams have captures the knicks atlanta in like two other teams. Who aren't very good. And that's about it trade. I believe who's probably. I don't see why they would do that. And charlotte i believe to charlotte. They might actually. I could see them looking at it. but a so so when you look at those. Those teams have cap space. Which one makes sense to take right now in which one would make sense forever. Forty-eight goto right now not a great point i mean unless the knicks. Somehow finagle chris paul or something even then like what chris paul like that that's not exactly a dynamic duo even in the east so i'm not sure what you're getting out of that right And i think that evan. Evan just bought a new With us two point two five million dollar house here winter park a suburb of orlando And he's said he's happy here so His wife have a young son who they're now starting to grow as a family here. I would be surprised if he opts out. Especially because of the unknown silt like we don't know what the salary caps be yet. Yeah cramming unless. I completely believe i want to see the salary. Caps one nine again but the tax threshold gut said at one thirty two so it's a little bit lower than was projected. Okay so i just. I think it would be far fetched for aaron to go out given the current climate and expect to get the same kind of money Which is why. I think he option. Plus i again. I think he likes the ear now if he does opt out. I think that the magic would probably be willing to work. Something out with him and they'd be able to resign him even though they're going to be over the cap obsolete hold his bird rights so Just a couple of thinks look out with him but if he's not in magic contracts next season i would be surprised. Yeah that makes sense to like unless like he demanded which i don't think he will do But yeah he. He doesn't come off. As that. Kind of guy me evans evans really fire in. He's talked about wanting to see this through him. Nicole own talked about that and how important it is for them because they've been through it all here So i don't think that would be requesting a trade unless it really went down the shitter. Yeah yeah totally. I think you know the merit to my next point talking about like one of my favorite players in the nba..

"Come back in the early ninety's the Orlando Magic. You know that when the advisers of the time I took a piece paper wrote $100 lives. He ripped it in half and he said, You spend this half and saved the other half. None of you will be on a great start. But the difference between the rich and the wealthy right the next layer to that is the wealthy will take that 50% they save and save another 25% of their own vested rights, so they compound that effect. What they're actually doing on. But the key is being disciplined. And if you can live on a portion of your your income, this case shock tried to save was about 75% or so then come. He tried to save He actually was successful at that. He never spent a dime from his initial contract, which was like 40 million bucks back in 1992 taken. Imagine what that's worth today if it was managed correctly, um, but that's that's the key. We talked about all time. Pay yourself first, and that's what they hold. Tonality is about with a piece of paper. I set it aside first. Go to the fun things with part of it, But you got to pay yourself first. And if you're wondering, you may not have a contract of that size may not see Ms feasible to do that. You really have to ask yourself. What can I do? Because again numbers matter here, and it is difficult a zit congee. It's all relative here, and certainly there's a floor where you just have to spend so much on housing or food. But even sometimes, the housing expenses really are negotiable. And that may be what Dr savings, so if you're not in a situation where you can save right away, that's something to look at. Good. Well, I think from a lot of people that talk to last, you know, six months or so since since Kobe hit five months, whatever it's been That was proven right. If you could tighten the belt if you really needed to with your expensive even if you had those fixed overhead costs like a renter, mortgage payment, whatever. It also might be stuff for the kids. There's still a lot of discretionary spending happening in a lot of households here in states, but people really hate. I was really forced kind of shut it down a little bit and reel it in. And be a little more disciplined that something that that that should they could do so it might not feel greater sound great, but that's step one because we're talking about nexus is actually saving in. How you keep up with inflation is investing. Well, you gotta have money doing best. I go back to your income, right? Orlando Magic's Jonathan Isaac explains why he didn't take knee or wear Black Lives Matter shirt Friday

"We had an incredible opening weekend of games name a star level player that player delivered at least once if not twice over the first three or four nights of the NBA's restart here in Orlando, we had crazy comeback wins. By the Houston Rockets, we had a dominant performance by. Jaanus over some little pesky pip squeak team from New England I forget who they might be. We got Marcus smart got fined for trying to work the officials. We've got storylines upon story lines. The clippers bounce back from their loss to the Lakers. Looking excellent and just throttling the New Orleans Pelicans. There's so many different directions that we can go Michael that I decided. Here's what we're GONNA do opening weekend heaters we're GONNA have just open ended questions are we're going to ping pong back and forth you give me your answers I'm going to give you my answers to these questions and try to cover as much ground as possible before we get there though I do want to double back quickly on the national anthem demonstrations that we touched on last episode, we got so many thoughtful emails from various members of the open floor globe on this subject, but I think there was a major development after we spoke on Friday. and. That involve Jonathan Isaac Meyers. Leonard Gregg Popovich Becky Hammon and one of the NBA referees all deciding to not kneel to not really participate in what had been in unified demonstration on Thursday. All of those people who chose to stand were obviously doing it on principle and they were doing it knowing there was going to be a lot of attention their direction. Now, if you look at Popovich amend the referee essentially, they were trying to just say, Hey, I support the the Social Justice Movement it's it's a private or personal decision for the referee said look I it's important to me to stand Meyers Leonard made a similar comment. Essentially. Saying that his brothers military service in the in the military service of close people in his life led him to WanNa stand to salute the flag. But within Isaac was a slightly different case and he actually used this entire demonstration opportunity to almost have a one man demonstration of his own. In his belief, the idea of the black lives matters movement quote unquote doesn't go hand in hand with supporting black lives. He also said that you know we shouldn't be necessarily judging things solely based on skin color that we should be trying to live a life basically you know in God's mold and try to live up to his standard, and that Jesus Christ was his personal savior and and that he wanted everyone to focus on that. Aspect of of living rather than the particular issue that was being brought forward with the black lives matter movement by the players he didn't really get any major pushback. Within the NBA Community people respected his right to make a stand. He actually not only did he stand during the national anthem? He didn't wear a black lives matter t shirt which many people notice because he was essentially the only player not to do that his whole personal story Michael took a crazy twist over the weekend and sad twist when he wound up tearing his ACL injury that's going to end his time here in Orlando obviously but also could cost him all of next season. So now talk about a whirlwind seventy, two hours for player who generated millions of us with his comments about the protests. I'm curious. Let's start with Jonathan Isaac. What did you make of his decision? After we've seen things settle in the last couple of days You know maybe it doesn't seem quite as Eye Opening as it did at that moment, but I'll admit I was I was surprised to see given the buy in from everybody on opening night. Right, I mean I just WanNa Start and say that it it really really is a bummer to see anyone get injured but particularly is ICK who was already on restriction he was already playing with a humongous brace on his leg from a previous injury that cost him a majority of this regular season before it was suspended. So I just I feel for him greatly. I I think generally speaking. The coverage of who stands in who sits I mean we talked about this heading in anticipated it I. Think I think the coverage is generally besides the point and it doesn't really get the point I feel like people are using. This as an opportunity to shame those who are standing in a little bit I mean Meyers Leonard. said, he couldn't sleep before he made the decision to stand and that's just like not. The whole focus or the point here right like. You can obviously Support Black lives and also stand for the national anthem. It is a symbolic gesture that is what it is in the case of Isaac. I really had a difficult time understanding even what his message was until you interpreted it the way that you did I mean I watched the clip of Him Multiple Times survey there I'm GonNa just GonNa read what he said I and then we can use that as a jumping off point because I don't WanNa torture what he said earlier and I might have done that. So sorry for that. He says quote absolutely I believe that black lives matter kneeling while wearing a black lives matter t shirt doesn't go hand in hand with supporting black lives. I. Don't think kneeling or putting on a T. shirt for me personally is the answer i. Feel like for me, black lives are supported through the Gospel. All lives are supported through the Gospel. We all have things that we do wrong. Sometimes, it gets into a place of pointing fingers. We all fall short of God's glory whoever will humble themselves and seek God and repent of their sins. We can see our mistakes and people's mistakes and evil in a different light. Racism isn't the only thing that flags our society, our nation and our world, and he basically said he wanted this conversation to get out of the realm of skin color because the answer to all of our problems in everything that goes on in our world is Jesus. So. when I watched the clip. I'll I'll be honest. I was a little confused where he was going to after typing it all out trying to marinate on what he was saying I think he essentially wanted to have a demonstration on behalf of his religious beliefs and that this was an opportunity for him to say look you know focusing only on one particular group I. Guess in his view, the black lives matter group and you know everybody wearing a t-shirt doesn't necessarily achieve the wider goal which would be presumably healthy living. You know honest living you know Living which to him as a higher priority I think that's where he was going with his statements.

Gimme a sense of like where you know where your your just being active in the community comes from. What else have you done? You know what's what's the driving impulse there because there's a lot of guys who do there's certain boxes you gotta check as an NBA player that like the required stuff, but some guys you can see are really heavily invested in that. That's clear with you. Where's where's that coming from? A man. I feel like that I've been I've been blessed to be a blessing. "The middle of five siblings. Sixty. Five siblings middle of total. My math isn't so great on on a Friday morning. so What was what was that growing up as the middle because I'm like I, mentioned I'm the middle of three and I felt like I had to be that that like mediator all the time just between two Poles, but you've got like. What. A couple older, a few younger we're. How? How did that work out? Need you you I I believe I believe in like very much like birth order actually affects personality like I can see it in me and my brothers. Did you see that in you and your siblings? I would agree I have fox siblings is five boys. One girl girl is the oldest, and I have two older brothers and two younger brothers hours at the Middle Child is. The top Job Alex. It's it's fun. It's like the middle child like goes back and forth between older ones, and the younger ones definitely hit on the head in terms of the mediator. Ombu is with us his case. We were all kind of just in our own like everybody does their own thing. And now you've never older. This is one is one in California. This one in Minnesota, there's one. In the rest of us are here. One of them was enables, and now he's here. So all of us were in our home as a lot of really gifted I have a brother in California that as a wishes leader, a traveling worship leader for different churches. My sister works in Minnesota and saw it's been dove has been fun being the middle. Child, but his is absolutely been. Taxing but I love it. Yeah, no, it is. It is definitely one of those things where you're kind of on a given day. You know like there's the the kids of the failing that small ones. The youngest I always feel like they're. They're the ones who get away with everything right and they're. They're dominating their parents time because they're they're. They're young spazzy. Whatever than the older one? They've got more privileges. Whatever like I always felt like like it somewhere in. The Middle, children the book is that we kind of get lost in the shuffle, so we're always trying to figure out like where where you know where where you know, what about me. I agree with you and just the the older ones are, are of you don't is you get a little bit of both you get that you get the babying, but at the same time you get the you get some of the privileges that the older ones in which you never you never out of the out of the. Steal? My Mom's like. Just just baby in way, but at the same time adult, so the good news is Jonathan as as adults and I've got a few years on you I think. For us like when we finally get to this stage where we're out in the world, and it's not about where we were in our in our childhood anymore, but I do think like there's like I, think the books have been written about this like a lot of middle children into being like diplomats and mediators. Does it infuses you with a certain kind of like balance like all right. I'm a reporter I. My job is to see both sides right. Now! I grew up to see both sides so i. You know you're you're obviously well grounded balanced guy like I'm gonNA. Say like that's why it's because we're middle children. We gotta get something out of it so. Young team that you're on in in disrespect. The magic had multiple high lottery picks the last few years. You're among that group. Moba also six pick overall. You guys acquire Marquel Foltz. and very different paths for for the three of you, but you're all still in that early stage of trying to find your way, and you know, maximize your potential meet. The expectations come with that high pick. Is it something that's disgust? It something that's just kind of subtly understood when you're all in that kind of that same stage trying to to to figure it out. I mean I think we love. We've talked about it for sure. We talked about the this team to go in. And obviously the the fans and all that stuff. They love the fact that we're young core, and we have great older. Gaza boots, Nevin, DJ and you can. You can count. The KINDA. Middle Child right, there is the. Older and the younger t, Ross is older gas. We have a great balance or not on the future moving forward, you know the young guys are not team. We're GONNA have to assume more responsibility, and we talk about it as unbiased in terms of where we want team the bill how he want to. Bring bring new life to the city of discontinue to you on this upward only has been with the the playoff burson these last two years. I think we're I. Think we had a great place in moving four wall working hard and everybody's Kinda intertwined in being great individually and together to make something really special city. What have you learned about? Marquel so far obviously very very public. You know struggles for for him in in Philly. Everything and I thought the best possible thing for him was the trade. Trade to Orlando where you know, it's not the expectations of the team that drafted you number one. It's now you've got this fresh start and a different kind of environment, certainly less I would think less pressure there What have you gotten to know about him? And what have you tried to do as a teammate, an in terms of of helping him? In his transition there. I think you hit on the head about it'd be. It'd be a great out. He would say the. Trades Orlando has has paid off. For him, it's just finding the time to just relax and kind of get back to so Markale to look inside of himself in figure things out about mercer. These marquel is a he is extremely resilient, young dude in my as for him to him to go through what he's gone through would still be fighting. Still be growing in his game in and. And taking it to the next level in China's best, it shows exactly who the guy that Mark Ellias trauma best Persian that all the time admitted to go through what you've got to instill. Be Standing. Still be vitamins huge in SPEC- as hard as his his mental with with the man that he is allowed I'm glad to have as a teammate on. A A number, one pick on the team alongside me, especially as the point guard so Soviet. Him started to create some synergy on the court. Of people talk about a lot of times. He drives in that kind of trailing behind me as So, people talked about that, a little bit definitely started to create some synergy. As long as Islam with Mogambo, he's been working. Extremely are getting. Put on a ton of weight, so are looking for. Work you. No, it's exciting. It's always it's always fun like seeing a young core with a group that you can kind of see the outline of where this goes in the three of you fit together very well in terms of like skillset positionally, too, so you could, you could see the outline of where the magic might be three years five years. It's fun. Couple more before I let you go. I know during lockdown during amid pandemic. You've been pretty active in terms of just in the community. Initiative called. Junior initiative alongside project life reading from my notes..

It was serious when I was young. I used to I would try to give me some acid look I'm eating cheese fries. By it would give innovators by. Okay Happy something else, but it was. Mean that's a that's a dramatic obvious split in the families is tough regardless, but Bronx to Naples I imagine was quite a shock to the system. What was that like? It was absolutely a shock to the system. I got in trouble every day when I got I got to school in in Naples. That was a missile used. Horse playing in being rough and got the. got the Naples they they actually weren't even many. African, American kids in the school on that was that was just me and my brothers pretty much. UH, so. It was, it was definitely a culture shock, but got more and more in the Florida. I started to I started the like I started liked chill vibe that you know being able to white. Wake up and drive somewhere park and not have to walk everywhere. Take the bus I started like it was definitely a culture shock. I will say at a time like this Jonathan because I'm in Brooklyn all the things that I love about New York City like at a time like this it's it's very awkward. All of a sudden because like I'm not getting on the subway like there's just no way like I love the subway. They'll be able to get anywhere anytime. It's one of the things that's great about living in city life I don't WanNa, subway. All my favorite restaurants are still closed here loudon. Doing take out stuff, but yeah, it's. It's a very strange vibe in the city. Do you still have? Family back here backyard you get back here to you still feel like the Bronx is home in some way, or is that kind of feeling a little distant I mean no absolutely I always. Remember the Bronx the home. My Dad is still there. He's in. He's in Orlando with with me now, because everything that's happened with a run of is easier just chilling on with the family buzz most of the times down in his down in New York, win win over member. We played their accolades him. He comes back and forth to spend time with me eastern time, so it's been. It's been cool. I missed. I missed the Bronx on when it was all that I knew it was all knew I was younger, and I was like I didn't know that any place was different around the world of getting on like head I. "Who you said that's that's the Guy WanNa pattern myself after or even after you got to the League and you start to realize what you know, the versatility you could bring to the court is who have you look to answer? A! PG On, but mostly Katie can I used to watch I still watch Kanye today, but I used to watch Katie before every high school game. Watch on Washington Florida state on his wail. I I just loved breaking the mold of being a taller guy. I was I was always. All in everybody, but I wasn't always. The tallest was stuck down in the pain a lot of times when I was younger in high school I was planning on guard because I was I was about six foot. I would play. As I got out that people started showing the basket and. So I was able to develop you know Kinda both skill sets the results of the Katie out the issue in three's company role in and getting off rebound, and taking a coast to coast was not something that I just like marvel that and I wanted to reduce my game and. Not, I feel like I'm on my way. Does Katie know that? Have you guys ever had that discussion? No, we've never had that discussion I. I've talked to Katie briefly just after a kind of kilby can go. FIRST TIME! I had the garden, but it was. It was just briefly just keep on winning Nettie saw me. I thought one thing during the during the season I think he was doing. He was doing something on on TV. And he said my name with the I think he was talking about just young guys who are breaking that the way he did, and he sent my name and I was just like hundred gas. Is. Located I love his game and you. Who are the guys around the League because you guys? You've got a very young team. There's some vets there, too, but I mean everybody. Young guys always talk about the old heads. The guys who gave them the best advice who taught him not just how to work how to study. The game had how to how to. Be, in this league and live this life. Who've been the guys for you the best resources so far. Because I say Augustine Rt.. six years lost I consider him only guy even though he's he's. Still Young He's like twenty four twenty five now. He's been great. t Ross on our team. Is You abyss Carter for for Atlanta I met him. He was at the transition program and ever since the every time I. See him the always jobs knowledge. He's always. Read the coaches in the League have been awesome about job. Knowledge with different guys me. Especially I'll say those guys. Yeah, what's the one piece of advice or some? Words of wisdom that have stayed with you like you keep coming back to in the course of a season. Say Yeah. I would say I think as is young guys. We wanted all of the day. We WanNa be great tomorrow and When it when it doesn't happen when we when we make mistakes, we had those highs. We have those rows. It can be discouraged name when you get around. The only guys twenty two. Twenty one just like stop. You GotTa get there. It's the day by day crime that. Greatness and they just Kinda. Had those is to see as older guys because they've been there done that and they see You don't WanNa. Young guys when a guy's angry is. Not wanted in the just relax is GonNa, happen I'm starting to see in the mockery from year to now me grow in Confidence Negro. just being. Comfortable out there on the court has starter in the League is no people calling premier defendant, the defendant to see that kind of blossom. Is being. Like heating that advice. It doesn't happen in the bay. Bisbee to display those Brits Foundation in infamy has been growing in the things of Gaden, Hatami, confidence being him at has made me blossom and I, I wanted continued. Are you a guy who who actually goes with specific goals like some people like guys will chart out you know right? I WANNA come back this season doing. Doing? This or I'm going to spend this off season. Like nailing this one particular skill adding something, do you do you? Are you that specific with it or are you just kind of like as it comes? Do you have things that you like this season? We still don't know where this'll end up, but if if we assume a normal off-season of whenever that will be. Like before the two thousand twenty twenty one season. Do you have a sense of what Jonathan Isaac should look like at that moment? Yeah, absolutely I I've been I've been both I think. I think it's healthy to have old. There is absolutely the you know. Take it day by day in what will happen will happen, but the same time since my review is being gained weight It's been work on my jump shot. Jump shot jump. Jump shot jump, shot and comfortable, comfortable, handling the ball on taking off the remain going being comfortable enough to come up the heroes and stuff like that and really just learning the game. I, think you know we don't talk about just learning the game of basketball on C. From a coaching perspective so for me. It's like I know I know how to play the game I know how to play offense not with even with La Understand. Understand what is going on situations what guys are doing. What why guys doing work in and just kind of trying to get into my clutches heading site? Okay with it while we run this play. Would you see that I'm not seeing? And stuff like that so I try to spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff, I'm still trying to gain as much weight as pie as is possible trying to be strong in Malays in my for work on my jump shot, jump shot in a making. Are you one of those guys a hard time? Packing on on the weight keeping it on? Because everybody's built a little differently. Some guys, it's like Oh, you got to have more strength than the in this game, but like for some guys. It's just like just physiologically. It's not that easy to to to add on. So what are you? Are you having to like massively? Increase your your calorie intake. What's how's that process? been getting easier on, but my my rookie year other this summer after year. You got to follow through on your plans and now just wait and see where the world is again in three or six months, or do you have? Look like onscreen or exactly when this summer is going to be next, all that stuff is up in the air, but she's just. She's excise off pretty much thing and We'll figure it cool. Yeah, that's that is one of those other things. Again I've been talking to guys about this since everybody started talking about the shifted schedule and the idea that next season's GonNa start late, which is like that's pretty much a given. But. We're all used to players media, everybody who works in the NBA Environment. We're used to having kind of like the same schedule we had when we were kids in school. Right academic schedule off in the summer. That's when you have vacations. That's when you get married. That's when you do everything. There's really like so much that you just can't even. Count on plan for right now. Yes, it's GONNA. Be Really Interesting That's pretty much the thing I'm most. Looking to see what happens, the next season on my thing is rated this hopefully to see the comes back. I, think it will actually you think will as well with next season is like we talk about what we they had to talk about. College Basketball High School basketball was gonNA. Look like so that's I'm kind of curious to see what happens everything to the draft. Where does all that go in trying to figure out what what are new season this summer Kids! All everything is always going to go into decision for next season. Yeah, for sure all of us. Who have kids definitely do not want to have? Our summers taken up by by the NBA The NBA's great and all, but you gotTA. Have that that that downtime? Has that. been much of a discussion yet. Because the Union obviously in the players you, you'll have a voice in collectively bargained part of the NBA. Deal, the schedule is something that that you know they can't just impose so Do you think players would? Go for that on a long-term basis. Next year is maybe necessity, but for the long term. Do you think guys would rather see? Something new along those lines or rather try to ratchet back again and and get things back on a normal basis. Not I can't be too sure on for me. Just being a young guy I really don't. Care that much in terms of if anything changes support, you know this summer, but same time then they'll be thanksgiving. They'll be Christmas and stuff. That'll be off. So this is a goes into hourly. Have the perspective of most as that are older. Families that had. Kids and stuff like that, so I'm sure they're. Perspective will be different from mine on, but I think just from being familiar and comfortable with the way it is right now I want to ratchet it back by the time. We don't know what it would be like to be different. Yeah, yeah, no, it's very strange I. Mean we've all all of us our entire lives. The NBA has been I mean it's shifted a little bit here and there, but it's essentially. Late fall. To early summer and that's it's hard to imagine it any on any other basis on the on the flipside I guess you know certain cities like Milwaukee. Maybe we'll be there in warmer weather. Be We'll still be there in the winter, but. I don't know trying to figure out, but the hot place is going to be really really hot. Exhibit is it's IT'S GONNA be interesting I'm actually kind of excited for. Out, talking to look like We expect a lot from our homes..

"When you look at the core of players you've had there, and it wasn't like, you know, you look at rob Hennigan, and Scott Perry, and Matt Lloyd was on that staff, and he's still there would Jeff Weltman and John Hammond. They drafted pretty well. And you had really good young players. And you came when you look at that fourteen trade, you're part of Orlando made out the best. Now, it would Dalal remain a very good player for a long time. He went to Denver, but he ended up leaving and going to Golden State and obviously buying them. Dwight Howard didn't work out for the teams. They went to really so bring you in. And then, you know, JJ Rettig, and I think Jay would have stayed in Orlando JJ ever really wanted to leave. I think if they wanted to resign him he would have stayed and then Tobias Harris comes in. And then he's out and obviously go through the players you had Victor depot and Savona who you never got the play with. Maybe if there had been more patients, and it wasn't let's cash young guys for this veteran or that veteran like when you look back, and you said if we had just stayed the course with. Core. We'd be like this perennial playoff team in the east. Right. I mean is that how you see it? I think so you know, we had some very good young pieces. You know, especially look, I mean, you never know what can happen. You know? I was you know, Vicki Wynn. I Oklahoma City in anyone's Indiana, and he exploded there. So you don't know if the same would have happened. That's us. But because Victor told me if he hadn't spent that you with Westbrook felt that you would Westbrook prepared him to do what he didn't Indiana. You're right. Would it have just naturally or did he need thing? You don't exactly know. Tobias while he you know Tobias. You know, you knew then you know, how good he was going to be. I mean, because well, you know, he's shown his potential, but sometimes, you know, for certain teams that happens a lot, you know, a guy plays for certain team low while young guy, and it doesn't necessarily it works out. But it's not maybe potential everybody thought. And then he goes somewhere else, and he exposed there. He plays. Really? Well, so it's hard to say, I think that we if we AllState together, it would have been a good team in especially because we would have played together for so long, and they would have been so special about it because we all came to get out of their young age. But you know, it's it's hard to say. I mean, I had mentioned once before that, you know, those moves really work out. But you know, I it's it's the way it is. You know, sometimes you make good move. Sometimes you don't, you know, sometimes things work out. Sometimes they don't windows moves. Nowhere made. No for us. You know, we thought it. Okay. You know, it could be good. They did end. So. It's hard to say that I think that for sure if we're still together it'd be pretty good team. Do you feel have you grown to feel this year that Steve Clifford was kind of the coach you've been waiting for in your career? Maybe didn't know it..

"W O J to get ten percent off. To me. This was always like a really interesting season. And it was an interesting team you came into the league in the lockout year, and you go to Philadelphia and a very veteran team and a coach Doug Collins, who is I think very focused on playing veterans. And you look at that team you around. Andrea Dala, drew holiday, Lou Williams, brand L brand was right. What was it like being a young player on that team and a young player playing for Doug Collins that I don't think that was an easy year for you? It wasn't easy. I should have. I. I was actually playing a good amount of minutes. I had my chains. And I had some games where started play big minutes. It wasn't always consistent. You know? In part of it was also know me as a rookie. I was annot is, you know, playing a the my best which think is normal for a young guy. And now we're in a position where we're trying to really make ploughs and we start off really well, and then we had we hit a slump a little bit. So he was relying more veteran guys. And you know, a lot of people kind of look back in like, well, you know, now, he's like, you know, playing really well, and then they didn't give him a chance. But realities also, you know, I was a young big, man. I was in nearly as good as m now, and so it was normal that, you know, he had more confidence in veteran guys in an extra to me was a great learning experience to understand that is not just going to be given. You know, you have to earn it. And I think that was one of the best things that happen to me because you know, when you're in college and a high level your starter you play big minutes. You know, everything's just kinda given to you. You know, that you can just go and bring somebody in whenever they want it gains, his trade or whatever. So you you just. Play regardless. And then so when you get via tradition is not always easy. So I think that you're was huge for me to get that understand that hey, MBA's a whole different animal, then college nothing is going to be given to you. You really have to earn it. So that year was a grill learning experience for me. Once I got traded Orlando, and it's it opened up much more from me. But always look back at that was Ellen the player the veteran that you gravitated toward and that team. Well, it was him. And then we have Spencer Hawes Toni T daddy's young was there at my position as well. All of them helped me a lot knows a lot of it was really a Spencer, and Tony and Andrea dollar those three guys really really helped me a lot. But they also have in veteran guys, especially being so really all those guys can really learn a lot from them. It was an old school. Rod Thorn was the GM. It was an old school organization at that time. It was it was I mean, but she look at to a replay into now, you could say it was an old cool that it was. Only like seven years ago. But it was a good team. I mean, we went to second round of offs. We lost Boston game. Seven those great series to be part of M play much. But just to be part A-Team team watch all the games he had to prepare and everything it was just amazing part of. And that's the night when Derrick rose goes down. What do you remember about that moment watching him down and realized right away? It was it was a big injury. He was at the top of his game. I felt I felt really really bad and sad for him. Because I was a big fan of Derrick rose just the way you was playing a game. You know, he didn't really care for anything. But just to play and he was always playing a lot energy of fun to watch. And the bulls were good. I mean the first game we actually lost by more than twenty. I remember he had twenty one..

And not know keep it out of your mind is God and gym and work. And that's kind of our our place where we had peace, and we just do what we love the most. And so I mean, obviously, there's been a lot of changes have been Landau my seventh year here. Now coaches players assistant coaches, you know, even this year, we have new training staff. So there's been a lot of changes. But no as a player, and as a professional, you know, all you can do is do your job in my job is to be a biscuit can be dealing. Imagine your father Borislav pl-. "Kennedy. And joining me today is Orlando Magic center, Nick. So far this season is leading the magic and points and rebounds. He's adds a monster game's has helped her Landau get off to a great start. He's averaging twenty point four points, ten point, eight rebounds, three point, six assists. One point one blocks one point one steals he shooting fifty five point six percent from the field. Forty five point two percent from three point range. He's been dominating. Nick. How are you man? Are you doing I'm doing really well not as well? As you. You just one Eastern Conference player of the week few hours ago. We time this podcast really well over the past three games, which were all wins. You've averaged thirty one point three points ten point three rebounds, four point, three assists. You're shooting sixty two percent from the field. Fifty point fifty percent from three. What does it mean to earn a league wide award like this? It means it means. Because you know. I was able to get it where else to play because we want. I would've I would've put up the same numbers. We had won as many games. It wouldn't have been the same. So all thank my teenage like, Nicole T staff and everybody that's no supports me for being able to set a level. It's only for one week at the same time. We we've been through a lot Hino Landau and this week in the huge for us. And it gets weed on good teams as well. So would you grey week, and I'm really happy able to get the Eastern Conference care to and their cares. And all and position. That was Joel Embiid. Embiid Greg player, and I was able let it was able to. And. Yeah. I mean, you you play against him bead you guys play just against Braun the other night. You've had some big wins. Lately. I wanna talk about that. As a team, you're playing super well, you're nine eight, but you're one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now that record doesn't really show how hot you've been you've won seventy or Lassen dying games. You've now defeated teams like the Celtics Spurs the seventy Sixers which was Jimmy Butler debut, you guys spoiled that the Lakers as I mentioned right now, you guys are I in the southeast division the seventh best record in the east. What's been working well for the team recently? I think the biggest improvement for us in the past say two weeks of nine games was been offense early on. No defense was so up and down. But it was sport. But our officers wasn't making too. A rough time scoring had to rest on getting one team. Last two weeks has been really were the weather mainly because you know, we started really playing once again, you know, moving the ball plane for each other. You know, being aggressive inside out really doing all the things that co specis asked us to do. And and has been showing we had gained a lot of guys core. No in the double digits and under twenty we've been shooting about very efficiently. And does this comes from those getting about a great, folks? No, just like, I said founders gone movement, and we had no players like parents rachi was really hard for us. You know in past two weeks shooting, you know, great percentage, especially from three no air has been great DJ avenue had must have had some as well. So this the team which is bonding to you know, playing the right way offensively, and it's shown that we can be there fishing in pinker defense. Also got better, you know, things that are the as to know always be at it's best. If you wanna win off into something can give us a huge booze. And I mean the way to India is going to be able to school at high irate. Yeah..
