"Chicago's afternoon news here on 7 20. W G n right about an hour goal. We were talking to Keith Pekao. He is the mayor of Orland Park. And he very vocally saying that the village was unanimous vote from the Village board will not enforced Governor Pritzker's mask mandate and they will not enforce the vaccine mandate in the village of oil and park. I'm not sure what his role would be there and enforcing it. One way or another, but they're standing firmly opposed to it. The mayor says that the state Legislature is sort of well, it's abdicating its responsibility. The Legislature has abdicated their responsibility since day one with Covid. And we have said that repeatedly if you want to pass a law for vaccine mandates, we certainly have vaccination mandates in the state of Illinois. Every single one of those has been passed. By the Legislature. In fact, I think chickenpox back in 95 was approved by the FDA. It wasn't until 2000 and two that was mandated by our legislature as they would call. It was a pretty contentious discussion when they decided to do that, so if you want to mandate vaccinations The Legislature is the arm to do that. We are representative Republic. We're not one person rule that is Keith Pekao. He's the mayor of Orland Park. What do you think? 3129817 200 is the telephone number? Text. I absolutely would not shop in Orland Park. I'm sick and tired of people who refused to do a simple thing like where a mask when it can save lives. Kelly has called Kelly Welcome to W G. N I feel nice to talk to you. Nice to talk to you, too. What are your thoughts on this? So I was 100% for the mask mandate at the beginning of the pandemic. There was not, you know, not enough science to know what was right and what was wrong. They're back. There was no vaccine, So I'm a rule follower. So I was 100% for it. However, I have changed my mind at this point. I've been vaccinated. People I know have been met Vaccinated. I don't understand, And nobody's talking about the fact that we made a conscious decision to protect ourselves against this virus. Why are we being forced to help protect people that refused to get the vaccine? So, um, it's an interesting thought, Kelly. I mean, so the implication there is that you would be That you've made your peace with the fact that you could spread it to someone unvaccinated who gets very sick and dies? No, I think it's a stand on. Why are people not getting vaccinated? Why are we Protecting ourselves and other people refuse to. Yeah, I share your frustration on that. I really do. I was walking around and I will say this. I wear my mask in public because that is the rule and I follow the rules. I just don't agree with it. I don't I understand. I think we are have very similar. Views on that. I'm glad you called Kelly. Thank you very much. Listen every day thank you even more for that. 3129817 200. Fran is on the line. Welcome friend. I would not shop in Orland Park, knowing that people aren't going to be wearing the I prefer to accept invitations to events that they only Your last collars seems to forget that the delta variant is is a affecting the exterminated people as well as on the X donated so why not take the extra precaution? Well, it is affecting vaccinated, but not nearly as badly. I mean, I think almost no one goes to the hospital or Uh, anything like that. You know, I wonder, um, friend, if the people in Orleans park or or the stores I mean, if I'm running a business, I'm still I'm following the state, right? I'm not fall. I'm not. I'm not taking Keith pickles. Guidance I'm taking Pritzkers guidance suggest. Seems like liability wise and all of that. It's what you should do. I wonder what I wonder what the stores are doing in Orland Park. Listen, friend, I'm glad you call. Thank you. 129817 200. Well, let's go to let me finish the number. 3129817 200. I'll say let's go to Orland Park. Camille is on the phone line. Hi. Hi. How are you, Steve? Better now that you're here, Camille. Okay. Well, listen, I was very upset to hear our mayor. Speak the way he did. I firmly believe in the mask mandate. I've been fully vaccinated. I wear my mask, but if we're ever going to get this pandemic Under control. We all need to wear mess. Did you vote for him last time, you know, and unfortunately I was out of the state. And I could not fault I will make sure that I vote against him. What are you finding Camille in the stores. There are people still wearing masks. Are the stores still requiring it? Yes. I mean the local the local stores. I don't know about some of the individual ones, but sure. The grocery stores the major stores, they pretty much are enforcing the mask mandates. I'm glad that I don't shop Orland Park that much. Well, that's the problem. Well, come on. We've got to get Orleans Square. We gotta prop up willing square. Camille. I know I do do that sometimes. Um The other thing is, uh, I just want to see this pandemic ends, don't we? All? Yeah. I think you are perfectly right and asking that he stacks in a did I want to know my mayor is vaccinated. Thank you for the call. I'm going to say, Well, I don't know what he may well be in was just taking a stand. But I'm glad you called Camille. Okay. Thanks, Steve. Okay. You bet. Are we going to go to? I feel like the vaccinated people are being flooded. Um, because some people won't get vaccinated and it it does upset me because there have been things that have been cancelled closed. Now again. I mean, we are the endemic over. It's not going to be until we reach this level. Oh, okay. Uh, And who knows what that level is? Kathy, You're breaking up a little bit. I'm sorry. "That's K e t A M I N E. Chicago. Com 7 53 and Patrick DeHaan is with US Head of petroleum analysis over at gasbuddy A lot of questions Pat about This pipeline. We hear it's back up and running now, So does that mean gas prices? They're gonna be going down and the shortages they're gonna go away. What's the latest Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna help gas prices much simply because it wasn't remember. Keep in mind. It wasn't a pricing event that is President Scott have continued to move up, but it's because the factors that have been a playful asked what 45 months Now that is an improving economy. Higher demand. You may see the national average tick back down. Keep in mind yesterday, The national average did hit that $3 mark for the first time since 2014. But all in all, a little relief nationally, maybe a little bit here in Chicago. But really, the market is going to be looking at demand numbers in the next few weeks to determine you know how much higher we go the summer? If Memorial Day is a very busy one, we could see prices continuing to move up. I knew the prices will go up before we hit the road on Memorial Day. It always does. What about people who are traveling going to the Southeast eyes? They're still a concern for a while about gas shortages there. Yeah, that there is. Some of them have worsened overnight. Even with the pipeline re open. Some have not. Um, it will take a couple of weeks to get everything back to save that lesson. 20% of outages and it may take up to three weeks for this Come to be completely behind us. And in the Chicago area here. Can you find price under three bucks a gallon anywhere? Well, if you look for the needle in the haystack, I'm seeing on the gas buddy app about five stations under that mark. They all got a hole in one in one particular area. They're actually all around. Tinley Park, Orland Park, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect and call You met City. Okay, that zoo where it's only about 50 miles from where I live, So I'll go there to get there You go. So I guess a Zafar Aziz, the colonial pipeline that should gradually be back to normal, correct. Yeah, within the next day or two. I mean, all it really takes is for them to start moving it all on. That shouldn't take very long you know, from from the onset, so they're starting to put material back in the pipeline and downstream. It's starting to come out. And mostly that impacted the Southeast. Not necessarily the Chicago area. Correct. Basically just the Southeast upto about DC Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at Gasbuddy, Thanks as always bad, have a good day. "Jump in that pool. But there's a problem if you don't have a pool. I'm Wendy Snyder in for John Howlett. The town hall has a pool. I would imagine he has a pool. Kim, do you have you have a pool, don't you? Well, I have a pool in my building him. By the way, he saved his money. He's a retired middle school teacher. He installed the large pool at his home in Aurora, Colorado. During these summer of 2019. They spent nearly $42,000 to install the pool. They paid up to $500 per month and utility costs, which is exactly the reason why I don't have a pool. I mean, that's a lot of money to invest. Well, so then the pandemic hit and he thought, you know what? Let's try to offset some of the costs of this pool, so he started renting out his pool. In March of 2020 stay at home orders went into effect. This guy saw a lot of interest. I was very jealous of people in the summer of last year that had pools because they didn't have to worry about going anywhere. You could just sit on a raft. The reason 61% of people gained weight because during the pandemic is because I think we all drink more alcohol than usual. Um, So this guy said, you know, I'm just gonna provide a way for small private groups to stay safe to be socially distant. So he hooked up with this app. I'll get to it because I forgot what it's called, and he was starting to get phone calls. He took in nearly $50,000 from his pool rental. Wow. So an entrepreneur. I know. So then I'm thinking what a great idea So I looked he. His rates were 45 bucks an hour for up to five people. An additional $5 for each extra person. On weekends. The rate goes up to $60 per hour and again he's in Colorado, but he's hoping to make $75,000 this year and rental sales. And he hooked up. What's the name of this? Uh, swim plea? I think swim plea like simply but was swim. So I looked at that today I went to swim plea and there are some pools that are rentable here in the Chicago metro area. There are there's one in Orland Park. There's a couple in South Holland. Some of them are in ground pools. Some of their are above ground pools, and I'm starting to think that might be the way to do it. Would that be fun? Oh, my gosh. That would be a blast and you know, we need to do We need to get Judy pie like on it because she has a pool. Oh, my God. We So Judy, and on this, Judy, we're sure everyone in her pool s So then I was talking to be charging admission. I was talking to Mallory, our producer on the way here, and I think it's a great idea. I would probably like to rent out a pool. Maybe bring some close friends and family members and have a good time. But then at 60 bucks an hour if you're staying for three hours, that's 180 bucks. You may as well just joined a local pool at that point. But Mallory, But if you're in a local pool, you don't have the privacy factor. Well, that's true. So, Mallory, do you have a pool? This is something you would be into. Do you want to get on swim Plea? Now I know you've had a poured I corrupt with the cool. Oh, you're one of those. Did you get a lot of people trying to be your friends during the summer? Constantly that you've become a popular for the wrong reason. And I would wake up every morning in the summer and there'd be like 10 people at my pool that you didn't know. Would have family members. You'd have that one uncle that wouldn't call you, but he would bring 18 of his friends and they would all be you know, poor stat around your pool. Would have smack. They bring pizza and chips. Not to mention that you have to look at all those funds. Maybe overweight from not wearing the proper attire for a cool and that's your day. You spend the day looking at that hot mess in your back yet. All right, So you're not going to sign up for swim plea any time soon. Not enough money in the world. Alright, cause I was thinking this is kind of a good idea, and I will confess openly right here on the radio that I did make friends with people in the neighborhood who had pools. Okay, But in the summer, and then it's funny because when school started in the fall Ah, yeah, I'm busy. I can't hang out. I'll admit it. And I'm not the only person who did that. Damn, I e. I only did it one summer. Then I realized we could put a damper on this whole thing, because remember yesterday how we were talking about, like shortages on things, wings and toilet paper. You know, now there's a shortage of chlorine. Oh, that's right. The chlorine tell that's real problem. Yeah. What you gonna do? Yeah, but pull their salt water pool. What pool Their saltwater pools in Chicago Well, but people are switching to them because they can't find the chlorine. Really? Mm. You know, you're more buoyant in salt water. That's always very exciting. We feel like your beach too. All right. We'll see the more I'm thinking about this. I might go on the swim plea at this summer because it would just be me and my family. So I think that would you know I don't have to deal with other people in the pool. I mean, babies are cute and everything but those swim diapers don't hold things in. What if there is somebody who is at the pool before you and it was disgusting, like an hour ago, and they barely cleaned up before you got there. I would arrange it. So I'm the first pool renter of the day. Always be the first one there. Although then you don't get the quality son. All right? Maybe I I have to think this through Steve, did you? You had a pool growing up as well. Your parents had a pool. Yeah, I don't I don't think I'd ever be on the savages to too many people. It's like the it's like an Airbnb with with pools. It's just too weird. I don't need random people at my house. Even if they're paying me or whatever. And the 50 grand a year. This guy expects to make 75 grand this year. I mean, Yeah, it's it's a nice chunk of change, huh? I don't know. It's just awkward to me. I would. I would have to leave my own house. Do I have to leave my house? Because these people just And I'd be at my home while these people are using my pool, or do I have to leave for the few hours that they're there? That's a great question. Do you have to be there like that? A police for sure. Oh, yeah, That's what I was thinking, too, Because then you have the liability issues. One of someone's drowning like you got to deal with all this. I don't want to deal with any of that. There's a bunch of Debbie Downers. It was with family. It's like it's a family issue..

We were waxing on about what a beautiful sunrise we had. Have. You also noticed that we have more daylight now, too. Oh, yeah. Think about that. I'm just looking on the bright side. I missed her. Look on the bright side Producer Al, if what was the how much they like did we have on the shortest day of the year? Total daylight time for December. 21st 2020 was nine hours. Seven minutes 45 seconds. You're in Chicago was nine hours. Seven minutes 45 seconds. Okay. How much daylight do we get today? They like for today. January 19th 2021 is nine hours 36 minutes 19 seconds. All right, so then producer all of how much? How much time do we pick up? 28 minutes 34 seconds about that 28 minutes 34 seconds, And originally we were only picking up like five or six seconds. But then, as you get further into spring Summer you pick how much producer LF how much time are we picking up each day now? Today. Chicago gained one minute 47 seconds, John about that, how you got to spend it clicking my heels. Getting a lottery ticket. Yeah. What about that, vic? Are you in on that haven't been yet, but I think now it may be worth it. What is the total? Steve? I know you were talking about that million dollars. Is it a billion yet? No. It's 850 million. That's close enough. I can not to get involved until we get to a billion. It's close enough. Haven't heard back from the lottery about my good idea of capping the winning it 50 million and giving it to more people. We have not heard back yet from the C T. A So if you were listening around 9 45 yesterday, I just told the story about what it was like when? On Friday as I was coming in to work on the Red line. I got to the North Clybourn stop South bound and a couple of people walked by me and then began to mug the two people nearest to the train doors. As the train was coming to a stop. They grabbed the phone from a woman. They punched a gentleman in the face a couple of times, took phone out of his pocket and stepped out. They were gone in a flash. And my anger has been that I have since the pandemic and I continue to ride the C T a every single day of every single week With some exceptions. I was riding my bike in the summer a lot. Once in a blue moon I drive, But today I actually drove But yesterday and the day before I was obviously on the train, I would say nine days out of 10. I'm on the red line. And nine days out of 10. The people that are on the red line have to be. They just don't have many options. Not everybody can ride a bike. Not everybody has the money for Parking in a car. So there's a trapped audience in those cars and the C T A does not seem to notice or care. I'm sure they do. It's bad for business. And these are people with hearts that people that work with C T. A Lady that works at my station waves to me, and it's so kind one day I forgot my mask, and she gave me one of hers that people are good people, but is an institution. They seem to be indifferent to the fact that not only are those places feeling unsafe with covert, because not everybody's wearing masks, and a lot of people are sleeping. On the car's laying out on the cherish because this is how many people on them anymore. But they don't seem to appreciate the fact that that also makes us vulnerable to crime there. There's less strength and numbers this fewer people on the cars. So the Ratio of unsafe people because of co vid to safe people is not as good as it would have been. And it doesn't feel that safe is a ratio for just general crime. We reached out to three different numbers at the sea to yesterday. They have not gotten back to us. We tweeted at them and posted to them. When I put my thing up on Facebook, and we have not yet heard back from them, we will And they'll say something. But until we start to see more police or more CT, a security on the platforms and on the train cars, which never happens, We're not going to feel safe, and here's why the Chicago Chamber should get involved. We also reached out to the Chicago Chamber of Commerce. You want people to come back downtown? You better make them feel safe getting in and out. Hey, Stuart are legendary. Great news men here for a long time on Facebook said if the city and so I'm trying to get people downtown because I work in the city, and I come downtown every day, and it's the prettiest city in America. It's a Jule. It feels so empty in this plenty of parking available. But Dave said if the city ever expects people to return to North bound on the red line, Right? Like if you want to get people to go up to Wrigley or up to Evanston, or if you want to get me to go south to M s I or maybe the Obama library when that opens up. Lot of public transportation opportunities. There. You want people to go north and south or west to the United Center. You can take the l or the bus there. Then you better go to the Frank Lloyd Wright house. You know, Park. If you want people to do that, you have to make people feel safe. And right now it is not. It is absolutely not. And and I just wish they'd return a phone call. I mean, throw something up about that. Because you feel so isolated when you're sitting in that car, and you think, OK, I'm sure I'll get through this. But this sucks. This is no way to run a public transportation system. They told us that losing a million dollars a day. I don't know how they're going to do it. I don't know where they're going to find the money. That's their problem. They need to fix it. And the business community of Chicago should get involved in this, too. Um And a lot. Can I say this then? A lot of you are saying, that's it. I'm never coming down.
