Giants need win, help to reach playoffs after loss to Padres
"There were 7 18 7 wins 18 losses against teams that were over 500. If you look at all the playoff teams there, eight wins 20 losses. How far can these Giants go? If they do get into the playoffs? And what are your thoughts against his three game Dodgers series? The first round if and when they get to l. A on Wednesday? Well, I don't know if anybody would pick the Giants to win that. I don't think it's it just it's just not not a reasonable way to think. I mean, the Dodgers were the best team in baseball there 25 games over 500 there one through nine with power hitters. They've got Kirsch on and bueller lined up. They got a bunch of right handed pitchers, you know, adjust in May and Johnson against the Giants, right handers. Stacks up really kind of comically. One sided, however, Marty, it's baseball, right? I mean, what's the point of serious when the first one, but if they be Kershaw behind behind God's man, I mean, you know, that's that's the great thing. They go in your record book? Look up. 1951 look of 1962. Yeah, and this is a you're going to write it. I hope it's Giants Dodgers. You'll write a great story that you will write an amazing story. About about how these teams have played before and how the Giants were written off before to the very last pitch, and they ended up winning and winning penance by doing it. So my feeling is Bruce. You got a lot of lefties. The Dodgers a lefty oriented. We've seen what Kershaw was done before. It's a baseball game. That's all it is. Anything can happen. Yeah, three runs in the first inning off. Kershaw is like, whoa, what's going on here? And all of a sudden, people say, Gee, we didn't see that coming. Yeah, and it's very I wouldn't say it's unique to baseball. But you know if you get an NFL Matchup kind of the best in the worst. He had a pretty good idea how it's going to come out or an MBA. The Lakers are playing a team that's you know, they can't win a game to save their life. If you had a fair idea, but the baseball and we've seen it so many times. You can just knock you on your own your song on your seat her off your seat. What's What is it? Something like that happens. It's the shock. That's it. Come on the Mets and the Orioles 1969. How about that? Yeah, the miracle Mets. They weren't supposed to get there. They weren't supposed to beat the Braves, then Henry Aaron, and they did. And then next next thing, you know, they win the whole thing. And you know Cleon Jones and Tommy and me and Tom Seaver and all of a sudden the team that have been so unbelievably bad. It's like, Wow, these guys are really good, and it turned out they They were very good for the for the next several years, But that was that was a miraculously kind of thing that you know it goes back to the miracle Braves, you know, back in 1919 14. That's correct, George Stone, the miracle Braves. Yeah. So The history of baseball. It's filled with great stuff like this and completely improbable development. So we will watch with great anticipation.
MLB: Recent Game Scores
"Well, the phillies just choked away their lead against the mets they've now lost that's a final. They had a four one lead on the mets they lose five four nice job by the phillies tonight. So they blew it and they were up five one or. Four one they were up, they were up for one. degrom left the game after the second inning. He got hurt. Wheeler. Pitching into the eighth. Couple batters too many for him. And the mets then win it with a run the top of the ninth and Diaz close it out in the bottom of the ninth. Right. So I both ends of the cardinals brewers hit the cardinals for doing game one brewers nothing in game two. The Orioles evidently beat. They be called hamels tonight. That's what happened. New York Mets Erase 6-Run Deficit, Only To Lose In 10th To Phillies
"Get Jean Cigar out yesterday. You have three run double in the first inning and then the tie breaking two run homer in the 10th. The Phillies beat the Mets 98 for a four game series split. The Mets did erase the six nothing deficit in this one and actually took the lead for a bit on Jeff McNeil's three run homer in the seventh. That one's definitely tough, You know, we played pretty well all week. The Phillies are a good team, you know, they battled just like we did this this last game, So you know, we definitely want to, you know, win that game, but You know, there were a lot of good things, you know us coming back from six. Serono's pretty pretty huge. So he's gonna build on that. The Mets and host the Orioles and two game Siri's starting tonight. Love the Pregame at 6 30 Here on WCBS Serena

What is Programmatic Problem Solving?
"Really interested to just start off what is programmatic problem solving. I. Feel like that's you know we should start there bit of a definition or what we all think that I feel like there's probably a couple of different answers, Wa. Obviously had the first the same question at first to an all I knew I didn't even know the term programmatic problem solving I just knew it was something that I was struggling with that I was missing skills then So programmatic problem solving expectedly the way that looks while we're actually using it is that it's building an entire plan kind of an approach to a particular problem before you even be in writing code and so there are steps afterwards of course, and that's usually where I find that especially, new folks will jump. In. Right away what I find is that real life problem solving is only slightly different in that programmatic problem solving in particular relies on thinking in the way that a computer with think. So everything is more off on true false. Yes. No, we don't have that same gray area or kind of you have to build in your own fall bax stuff like that. So that's mostly where I tell my students that but yeah, data's the programmatic part of programming and it is one of the most fundamental skills that we can build in. Snug that one and cheers. So. It is one of the fundamental skills that I had seen that new coders are mostly missing in the beginning and I say this also from a personal standpoint because I have a very personal story with programmatic problem solving too. But yeah, in a nutshell, that is but programmatic problem solving is is very separate from actually writing the code itself. It's an entire process I love. You said a new person codeine that's typically how you dive in it. Absolutely I know I I started was like you just started coating to try and solve the problem instead of being strategic. Thinking how's the best way knocking allies still sometimes do that on like personal projects where I'm like Oh just you know figure this out as I go and I end up regretting it ended up just like a would have almost been a little better to just sit back and think a little bit more strategically about what am I actually trying to do and what's the best approach you're not gonna get it perfect like don't get. Me Wrong I don't think you're going to map out the perfect solution but I, think you you end up thinking like a few steps ahead and how you're actually building whatever you're trying to build. I've actually found and where it really hit me in the beginning was something that I call blink screen paralysis. So after you begin to move past working on the institute orioles and kind of using started out with treehouse initially and you. Find that you're using what you learning. You feel you're gaining confidence and that's the important part truly. But once it starts to get tougher, which is where I got bottlenecked. You realize that it really is eyesight. Pro Programming is eighty percent problem solving in twenty percent writing code, and then you can look up so much. There's documentation out there for writing code there isn't documentation for approaching a problem we have to actually use noodle and. We have to be able the to create something that makes sense or else your solution isn't GonNa make sense either it's not gonNa work at all or you'll be solving the wrong problem entirely which I see to like not literally the wrong problem but you miss identify what you need may be as output. So it's Yeah. Those kind of some issues that I see though and people get overwhelmed they get turned off their associating. Negative emotions too closely with the experience of writing code from scratch. So I wanted a way to help people. Will I stop to help myself but also to help other people to navigate that experience to really avoid a lot of overwhelmed too. And It's it's a transformation truly I've worked with people in real life. I've worked with people. You know kind of doing Programmatic Problem Solving Love Group coaching on it because like they bring in problems, it's like, okay let's pick this apart from the beginning and that's the beautiful part. There is no cord a your code in the course I very language Agnostic Kodak. Nas because you don't need. To be able to write code truthfully to learn how to solve problems.

Greatest Met Of All Time
"George Thomas Seaver was the New York mets. He made excellence a standard in our clubhouse on our team. Tommy had a look ahead, focus and an ability. Fans fell in love with Tom. seaver personified the mets in ascendancy in Triumph Enfranchise Kiosk in rebirth in ceremony and in the hall of fame. Before him, they had been lovable losers franchise of Casey Stengel and marvelous marv thrown berry, but sieber. So Brash. So sarcastic. So confident that for his first baseball card photo shoot, he posed as a left-hander to prank the photographer seaver would have none of that. Were the drop in Dr Delivery Reminiscent of Christy Mathewson and Bob Feller and producing a telltale dirt stain on his right knee he drove the miracle mets to a five game. Upset of the Orioles in the nineteen sixty nine girls series. Let to bet. Waiting John's. Winning New York and the ball club I wasn't supposed to win it put a spotlight on my career. which always would shine regardless I was an integral part of that ballclub that won the world championship and I'll take that with me forever the next year on April Twenty Second Nineteen, seventy, he tied what was then the strikeout nineteen, the last ten in a row, a record by itself. But A. On the days he was GonNa Pitch I used to consider the day off for me and only once in a while, I ever have to come in and relieve him and when I did. It was like the big thrill

Sitting down with the Kotlin Advocates
"We are all develop had for Katelyn. Some of us are for areas that are better well known some of us of areas that are less known some of US offer areas that say oh. Oh, you mean that Kotlin is more than just android So talking starve aside talking Kotlin Jaaz stalking everything else that is not android and so I wanted to discuss a little bit. What life is like as a developer advocate at jeppe rains as a cotton develop advocate jeppe brains, how we work, who tells us what to do what not to do well. Before, I I would say that it was mostly we would decide and then sweater you decide now for us right? I wouldn't put it like this. No I'm just kidding. Like I know you're laughing there you're muted it doesn't make sense. I can record my life and you can after add it. On the places that you want. Yeah I'm like are we gotTA have a back? Channel on slack that I keep pressing a button that says you know now laugh and then everyone loves so this is I think to the vision death like long time ago so But anyway. So No, let's let's discuss a little bit like what what color advocacy implies. So especially, nowadays that you know a lot of times when we talk about when we talk about advocacy in general. People immediately associate that with going to conferences and giving talks and. Engaging with people in the community and stuff like that. And you know right now the situation in the world is a little bit. and. So people kind of ask me sometimes, I what do you do all day because you can't really do your work can you and we're GonNa Bust this myth right that developers are more than just about going to conferences. And to bars and to. Having Beers and and the. And the podcast yes. So what do you do? What? What do each of you do on a daily basis try to out a lot with a on on twitter and kind of A feeling for how people feel about technology, it's it's pretty known that that Cutler Jay s for example, has a couple of rough edges them So I tried to kind of see who is trying to adopt the technology try to help them get started and can either be on an individual basis reaching out to people asking them for their feedback to the technology, and then bring that back to the team. But it can also be in the creation of materials than the people can just consume at their own pace. So for example, on play dot, Copter Nine, dot org, we have our section of hands onto orioles, which are kind of long form to`real, you've go through in interactive fashion and we of course, right those we keep those up to date and we always allowed the community. What kind of topics should be covered. And also keeping with the Team that actually developed technology right Shanyou well. As, we know that the Greater China? Region is huge. So for me I think it's more important to facilitates with community. So basically I Love connection with the community leaders. Mostly East our cutting user. Group. Part of. Confront you. And I tried to arrange some Webinar, to invite sound speaker to share their experience about calling. And the in order to. Make more people to learn calling I arranged. Study Group. Study Jen. that. We have on lies degen that Basically teach people how. Write calling coat. And we also have their coating practice. that. Encourage. People to use calling in different way. For example, we use calling in beckon you can have a new can learn how to write calling. Using Kato War or even in Spring boot. You can use calling in enjoy can use calling in data signs. Et Cetera so we provide. The possibility to poke to calling is everything. So that's why we do every for every day.
Boston Red Sox trade Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree
"Sox out slugged the Orioles. 85 featured six homers at Camden Yards, Zander Bogart said a solo shot Javy Martinez, a two run shot Rafael Devers, a three run homer. As Boston opened up in eight. Nothing lead on the O's through six before the game. Boston Traded relievers Brandon Workman and Heath Embry to the Phillies for pictures. Nick Bavetta and Connor Siebold on Friday. Ron Ron Nicky talks about the potential of the team making trades. I don't know about started assets leaving, but Maybe the return is is hope for the future, So so I think that's a better way to look at it.

Katy Perry Gives Sneak Peek at Baby's Nursery as She Prepares to Give Birth
"Katy Perry Fans just loved it, seeing extinct peek at her baby girls in nursery and wardrobe. So she did a little social media video. She did a Livestream show called her Smile Sunday show and she Hadn't shown anyone the nursery and then decided to show fans so it's pink and these baby clothes hanging on the wall. I don't think you've seen a celebrity mom as excited to become a mom as Katy Perry. She's so excited. I mean, I think she's just like Beside herself with joy about having this baby. I think that's really sweet sharing her joy. And again that baby is going to be so unattractive. Very, very unattractive. There's a little she showed up. This little likes jammy ones. E thing with Orlando Bloom's face all over it baby to wear, you know, and she just like, doesn't take it too seriously. And Orlando Bloom is someone that you would look at and go. Oh, he probably takes himself pretty seriously. He's probably kind of angsty. And I think the fact that You know when he was with a supermodel before, so it felt like this very serious couple. And then Katy Perry is like a cartoon, you know, and she's gonna feel really And I think that's so fun. I felt that way until I saw him on the paddle board. Yeah. Then it was like he's just like anybody else, Howard Stern says. Out of all the men that he's met he we're not out of all of them. But he constantly talks about how in person How unbelievably good looking Orlando Bloom is. Is that true? Yeah, I've never seen him like I He's one. I haven't. I haven't interviewed him in person. But yeah, Stern always says he is Oriole. Good looking. Yeah, I can imagine he didn't. Oh, now I'm looking at pictures of him and like, no matter what length his hair is He's a very good jaw line. Yeah, but that's im. God gives a bold hand
MLB Trade Deadline Approaches
"Just over two weeks away. From the Major League Baseball trade deadline, which is August 31st not July 30 1st is only one month of the season left, but we've got 16 teams going to the post season this year. Never before baseball even come close to those numbers for amount of teams that are in it Looks like everybody should be at least by the mathematics. The analytics. Basically 27 out of the 30 teams are going to still be in the mix to make a playoff spot. How do you have a trade deadline with all buyers and no cell ish? Yeah. I mean, I don't think you can, despite the fact that think what it's got put out. Again. I will cry. You will get a private jet. Don't worry. You guys will be healthy. So that's secondly. Okay. Um which is, you know also what the mess new. Remember? We don't know where it is. But, Jodie, don't worry. I look, I think The trade deadline for me when you don't have a lot of sellers very, very difficult. What this is going to come down to, in my opinion is money. If you're trying to be a buyer you then have to spend and you feel like that is worth it for you because you have a chance to win this thing, regardless of whether put an asterisk or not. You're still a champion, right? And everybody's trying to get as much money back. There's no winning money this year. We all know that. But it is much back right to cut that gap. Now you go to the other side. Well, you got to do now. If you're the Orioles Tigers this, for example, and those are two good ones, right? This is not the MBA drowned you don't want and then you still have your mixed that up anyway, so here for them, especially after guardian. What he's been three thing in that situation. They want to get there. They want their kids to get in your room. Not gonna add anything. But now someone's going to call you and say you've got a guy at the end of the season. Who's up? We've got money. You don't will pro rate and pay the rest of the 30 games. They got left. Let's say a player that got three million left, right. So you may care lots about that three million in Detroit. You're not going to care it all if the Dodgers the ones calling, I think he's going to be some rental deals that are about cutting checks for players he never heard of. Or players to be named later because the last thing people need to understand that I'll pay enough attention to when minor leaguers haven't played And when you have no scouts in attendance, you have a very hard time giving up anything that big or paying a lot financially or investment in players. First a prospect. You can't see you're not going to see a lot of those kind of deals.

"Jordana Jordan podcasts preview. The Baltimore Orioles is connor new come from the lockdown Orioles podcasts he came on in marsh right after we learned everything was shutting down I just listened to that episode this week because I wanted to refresh myself on what we talked about. You. I kind of feel bad even bringing this up, you were talking about how the oriels would probably going to set a record for the lowest win total in history maybe forty, five, fifty games will now it's going to be like twelve games so. Yeah I've I've gone on record in nineteen is my prediction for the Orioles and I think that's only because. Just, the weirdness that will be the sixty game season. I don't think we'll get a team that wins eight, nine, ten games just because you know. Though just be so much weird stuff going on I. Think Weird Winds. For some bad teams. Yeah. That's fair I. could see that happening I mean even the Exhibition Games which have felt more like baseball than the Inter squad games it's just weird stuff goes on like I. Don't know if you saw this last night in the Yankees phillies game, there was a fourth out and Aaron judge hit a home run because the picture just needed a couple extra pitches. That or happen in a real game but weird shit's going on. Yeah. The Orioles played the phillies on their first exhibition on Sunday and the phillies wanted one more guy to get some work in. So they said, let's play top of the tenth. The Orioles, were up four to one and the Oh said, okay, we'll We'll send up amount castle one of their top prospects and. He went yard on the first pitch to the tenth inning. So technically didn't count, but he got himself a homeroom Nice I. Guess that must be affiliated thing Joe Girardi just getting his guy extra work anyway in is making stuff up. Well, you've been I. Just asked You you've been. Doing podcast this whole time. So of I. What did you? What have you found to be the most challenging thing other than just bitching about the the annoying owners and players negotiations I mean, yeah that's that's challenging. The fact that not only is there not games, but there's a full transit action freeze during that time so. You can't even get those little like even five minutes. Your podcast is dedicated to this four a player just you know went from the big leagues backed down to aaa today just to get something role in I will say the draft helped immensely for for podcast content especially with a rebuilding team in with fans a lot more focused at least from an orioles perspective on what's going on in the draft.

We're doing the yankees of course on the fucking west west coast next two tuesdays so just kind of sitting there and just betting baseball and i guess engaging with the chat but there's a lot of fun if you tuned in on tuesday will be doing it every tuesday. <hes> what else do we have here not crazy lot to talk about other than like just pummeling the orioles which is a lot of fun <hes> vermont. Oh wait. That's the last thing i had to make armand has sixteen wins. It's missing into like a month any like also what's up with the innings because we're longo go seven. I'm well his pitch so it's weird like pitch count. Verse innings limit is always a little bit weird auditors matter. Yeah should matter more so i mean you didn't throw that he was under a hundred right so it's like i'd you'd right if he's gonna if it's gonna take him seven innings to do that. Another one throat ninety pitchers over seven leanings than a hundred pitches over six innings like to me. That's how i look at it but i know that obviously based changed and stuff from your throat you yeah oh you purpose to go so i have to. You have one so okay fair jumps. Whatever severino took a big jump a couple of years ago. He went up like seventy innings one year so that does happen right. It's unimpressive yeah. I'm pretty much and he looks strong. I don't want. I just don't want things and if they're going to do it. I'd rather them send him to the d. l. l. for a couple of weeks because i mean september i mean you're going to have battling with the astros but i don't want to have to have like eighty percent domingo. I want to to be illegitimate starter in the playoffs or you could send him out there and be like he's going to give a strong dude. I think whatever i mean cashman did go on. He was on an interview couple sco and asked him does he hangs things limit and caitlyn. They said yeah but he's like. Would you tell us he goes no but so there's something there but i don't know man i think as long as he looks as strong as he did the every day greenwich against the orioles but like he's look so much better since it came off the clearly pitching your few bet starts which fucked with zero which sucks but he's been. I mean ruko the broadcast last night. He has been what you would have expected luis severino event now as you would've loved luis severino to be here but to me doing that. It's made his absence since like digestible like he's given exactly what you would have expected out severino he's been. He's been unbelievable. I mean so much confidence in them. Every takes the mound. I think he's real too like i think we're gonna see him for a while to him. In severino at the top rotation could be all we last year. We reiterated it. I mean he didn't have a good here but when you when she would show flashes. We'd always say we shut frankie. Frankie never saw you never saw. Frankie hates them ingram on almost more than gardner but <hes> we we would hammered home that tutti has the stuff to be not just like in the rotation good like frontline star good. He just had to figure out the control and to repeat his deliver the whole news doing it. Yeah he's doing it. He and he learned fast. Really i mean this is what's it's more shocking to you like mike talk men's year or hormone stockman because at least like you said we saw flashes last year i mean we didn't know who the six hundred twenty games..

Can I really appreciate the fan show up and? Back. All right. He just needs a flare eh needs something and some analysts have said he's over fifty three that maybe you should put down a bunt. I'd rather go over one hundred no. Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Time power. If you once you hit fifty home runs a year career, the word bunch out of your, okay? No, no, no. No. No, no. I got it. I just have to have to break this to get on base. Yes. It'd be like if you're over ten from three point range, and then you're eleven shot you Bank it in. You don't go. Oh god. I I don't want that Bank three pointer in there. I totally if you bought a bunch of dribbler down a third base line and leg went out with your lumpy legs. That's much more than a striking up know. What would be worse if you lay down the button, you get thrown? I go super desperation bunt, and that's still isn't working. You just need to retire. Oh, he's so for fifty three you gotta do something. Mclovin. We should put that up as the polls should Chris Davis. I'm curious what people say he should get ahead to retire. His stealing money from baseball retire. He should get one hit and call it. I don't feel sorry for him. The guy is a millionaire fifty times over. So I mean, he's made enough money. What's he doing here? Well, the only reason why he's still up playing because he makes all this money. You know? But at some point the Orioles have to say, let's swallow a little bit of his money and sending down to AA AAA because where did it go? Like what happened where you all? You. You forget how to do. What is allowed you to become a very high paid wealthy baseball player like something happened where you just what happened and it wasn't an injury. Or is there a moment where guys who forgotten how to throw to second base or first base from the catcher's position back to the mound? But this is like he he lost something forgot something. And I'm that's what's shocking about this. But you have to put him out of his misery have to send him down to the minor leagues. It's. It's looked at that. He's about sixty four million. He's retiring. Yeah. It's not good. No. He's not. He's not. Worried about him going down. It's the worst player in history or something like that, you know, real infamy bad infamy, the don't already in. But but he's also had two great seasons where he hit, you know, close to fifty home runs in two years. Yeah. For would you send him down before he got that? I hit the gets to I sixty over seven. You gotta let him at this point of let it go on this long over fifty. He can't spend that finally getting hit. I would I would let him play through the weekend. And that if he doesn't have a hit then I would send him down. Yep. Aren't the rules about guys with long term contracts long-term service that if you send them down to the minors? It's like it's like releasing them. I think there's a lot of rules that you can't demoted guy just for like a on assignment. Well, if he agrees I think, that's where you have to have a coming to Jesus moment where the say, look, you're not physically injured, but maybe mentally you are and and we need to get you kind of hit the reset button. So you go down there. And maybe you get a hit. Now if he doesn't get a hit. He's down in AA. Then you got an even bigger problem at Bowie bay SOX are their team. He could run down there. Yes. So she. Yeah. He's got to get sent down start seeing the ball again. And remember what it feels like to make contact that isn't caught you know, you can you can only have a solid ground out. Nice fly out to left. So many times we need to check and see if he can be sent down to the minors. If if he doesn't want to go does does he does the players association back him up Andy in New York joins us. Hi, andy. What do you have for me? Gestion as how Chris Davis swamp. I know you mentioned a bond and that seems kinda cheap. Just like not taking any batting practice or anything before the game. Like that. I can guarantee you that he's probably, you know, overthinking batting practice, and he's probably pretty well in batting practice. What if he didn't take any BP because that obviously working for him? Just your first at bat of the game is going to be your first wing of the day. And see what happens. It can't hurt. All right. Thank you, Eddie. You know, these guys are all creatures have it. And you know, if that means you're going to snap him out of his habit, and maybe something drastic changes. But something happens from batting practice to the real game with him. And I've watched him a couple of times now where he looks like he's defeated before he even gets to the plate and even getting into the batter's, FOX. He just wants it over with. Yep. You cannot send according to the Washington Post. They cannot send him to the minors without his consent. Okay. That's where you have to say to Chris we want you to be healthy we want you to be somebody who's going to contribute to this team. And we promise that will bring you back up. We want you to go down for a couple of weeks. And then we're going to bring you back up giving a designated time that he goes down and he's allowed to come back up. But. It's really really sad and painful watching him go to the play it is it's hard to watch for when he finally does get hit thinking, positively. Fritzy goes on stage. Like, I I know how Oriole fans feel Chris Davis goes to the play Davis is the fritzy of baseball players. Yes. And it's like if Chris Davis everybody was giving him advice. Like, hey, man. You just have to do this one thing to fix your swing? That's right. I got it. Yeah. Like, maybe write some original material. No could do better. Chris Davis right now, I can do better. Hit the near future. And it's at home. Can you give him a standing ovation? It will take that as being a wise guy in snarky how do the fans show their love for him. And he Finally I would give him a standing ovation. I would not over the top wouldn't take it. All right wise, guys. I know I went over seventy three and understanding ovation 'cause they got a base. Let's say if I was there, and he had a base hit. I would stand up and applaud he should get it. But he's walking up to the plate. He should give him a standing ovation. Every time every time he's walking up to the plate. Absolutely. She rather than awkward silence of.

"She said, no, there are certain things that the Yankees organization has shown me in terms of tape scouting. And also analytics that I had never seen before in Baltimore. These are greatly concerning things and again, hopefully, the Orioles can kind of rectify going forward both with their current staff, but also their prospects and hopefully develop them into something else. So who's your favorite pitching prospect right now on the system? I guess my favorite pitching prospect right now is going to have to be Dylan Tate. I I really do like Dylan Tate a lot, you know, deal halls and other individual that people talk about hunter Harvey is another one, but I'm really interested to see what Dylan Tate develops into. I think he has the highest potential as it were to be, you know, really good. I think he could potentially be up to a number two or number three starter. I think how to Harvey is not going to turn into anything. I think he's kind of flamed out at this point. Which is which is a shame Luiz Ortiz. Another show that is in our farm system. I think he's a fat mess. I I don't see much of anything from him. And you know, the most interesting person to me when I go down to buoy watch is still in Tate. He's the one that when I'm sitting behind home plate and kind of taking speeds for 'em and seeing how he's kind of working through the game. I see the most promised to be of a being that prospect of the. Future of all the trades that have been made in the past year. What do you think will be the most successful in terms of what you got back? Prospect wise is a Machado's Britain is at scope, I think it's going to be used Neo DS. I think he's going to be the most successful one. Again. I don't think that people ever mash equality of Machado. And I think that's a big thing for the fan base that they're going to have to get over. But I think using DS can easily be again one of those players that's going to be a one point five to two point five war player. Again, not a great superstar all star. But a service of player the way the Orioles are going to get back into contention quicker is by basically building up a bunch of these, you know, okay, players the one to two or players and then going out and drafting and signing in free agency out through the international draft various individuals turn to that superstar. So the Orioles currently don't have that superstar in their system. And it's going to take again five to six years in. In order to get the back to a position where again, they have no net negatives. They've got a bunch of kind of role players that kind of serve as a positive, and then they have one or two superstars that can really lead this team back into the playoffs. So then potentially out of a chance for World Series. So we kind of touched on everything here. The last thing that we gotta touch on here for letting you go is the relief pitching jer something. I am not familiar with it all starting pitchers that we run into a system to where we look in the bullpen. And we're just like what? Yeah, we feel like outfield and starting pitches, we knew that pretty well. And I'll see them enough to the point to where it's like, okay. This is this is the guys that we've seen this year. This is what's going on? But this this bullpen is just it's like a game of guess who. Give us give us a lowdown on what we'll make it. Simple for you. Because you could probably tell us about all eighty guys there, but give us your seventy nine guy next year. And what you want your future seventy nine guy to be. Okay. So by seven eight nine guy going into next year is I want Paul fry being by my number seven eight point six case per Dyne, three point five eight walks per.

"Those interesting guys like, you know, Yaacob bonus and those middle quadruple player guys you've got Cobb and cash, and you're gonna let them throw their innings, but you gotta have something break at this point. And I mean, you look at hunter Harvey and again another injury concern coming in from two thousand eighteen I don't think that he has the Durance to be a starting pitcher. But again, if you're looking for individuals that could potentially come out and give you three maybe four innings at most. I think that he could come out and basically be along man in the relief in the bullpen. So you know, you look at the aspect of you got three starting pitchers, and then you've got some openers. I do think the Oriels need to go out and get a journeyman that can pull it up one hundred twenty to one hundred and fifty innings, and I think they were going to go out there and spend something in free agency to go get some one for, you know, eight to ten million dollars someone that's not very good. But someone that just eats innings, and maybe they can turn them around into something at the trade deadline and say, hey, if you're looking for someone that can offer you depth? This is a guy that can offer you depth. So I get I don't know who that's going to be. I think it's going to be a late signing think it's going to be assigned. Welcome James shields to Baltimore Orioles. Yeah. I mean, Jeremy heloc San even. Yeah. I think it's going to be something like that in January or February that says nobody else's interested. You might as well. Go ahead and sign with the Orioles, and maybe again, working with someone from the ashes, maybe have some kind of reached resurgence say, but certainly I think the Orioles could use one journeymen again, not someone good, but someone cheap for a one or two year deal. No, I think that we're looking at the list right now. And it's like Doug fister. Oh, there you go. That's again, go look at anybody on Texas like Cologne, like Texas had a bunch of journeyman on their staffs that literally. Taste in his on here, by the way. Yeah. No, there's that's like call Texas and either China trade for nothing or, you know, just look at who's going to be a free agent, speaking beg way. Talk about Dylan Tate. Yeah. Donate go through a couple of the prospects that you've acquired through trades. Obviously. You didn't get Dylan from Texas. But that's where the Yankees got him from in the BELTRAN trade so gonna give us the rundown on Dylan Tate. What's he looking like right now in the how long is it going to be until he's an oil? Yes. So I mean Dilantin was actually just added to the forty man roster today again, he would have been eligible for the rule five draft coming into this winter. So it makes sense for them to the forty man roster. You know, looking at Dylan Tate stuff, you know. It's certainly interesting again, I could see him again is one of these opener type pitchers. Do I think that he can come in and be that fits starter? I'm doubtful on that. But I think Dylan Tate's stuff is one of the more interesting pitchers right now that I wanna see at the major league level. I was actually vocal advocate of when the the tear down the rebuild happened. I wanted to see Dylan Tate up here in August September in the Orioles didn't do that. And it kind of miffed me, and I was a little disappointed about that. But I'm very. Interested to see Dylan Tate up with his team. I think Dylan Tate breaks camp with the Orioles. Whether it be in the.

"He is speedy. He's fast. He can hit for pop Molins and Hayes and Diaz have to be the future. Three outfielders. They have to be. Oh, no problem. I completely agree with you. You look at Mullins Hayes, and the as and you think about how the oils were successful during the two thousand twelve and t doesn't fourteen seasons. They really did the defense, and you know, looking back at the two thousand eighteen season in even going all the way back to two dozen fifteen. The Orioles have seen a precipitous drop off and defense specifically in the outfield. And I think the Orioles need to get back to that aspect of having really solid defense. I can think of no better individuals such as putting Centric Mullins and Austin Hayes out there too. Individuals that again may be premier defenders, but putting them together and zoning them accordingly in the outfield. I really think they can cover a lot of distance out there. Both have decent arms as well. I think they can make up a lot for it. And again Diaz has no slack to. I don't think he's a center fielder. But I do think that that kind of tandem offers a lot of ability to cover a lot of ground in Camden Yards. So I'm really excited to see how that progresses again, the bats will calm, but I'm really excited to see the defense out in the outfield. Again, the Orioles fans have been spoiled in the past with Adam Jones who would probably not be returning. But also dick Marquez out in right field for many years as well. Those two searches are really nice platoon out there and kind of kept the outfield attack. I think we're going to get back to that Arab Oriels baseball where we see some really nice outfield defense going forward in the future. Adam Jones for the last ever since he came from Seattle people forget that he was in Seattle to begin with. But has basically been this the face of this organization aside from. Like machado. Oh, absolutely. There's no question. I mean, when you think Auriol's baseball, I think most Orioles fan actually think Adam Jones, I'm actually going over to a tailgate. It's going to be a Baltimore Ravens tailgate and actually Adam Jones is holding it. And again, the big thing with Adam Jones's, you know, the play on the field is one thing. But again, Adam Jones has also been an integral part of community development. You know, he has donated millions of dollars to local communities, in fact, one of the events these extra doing for this tailgate for the ravens is he's actually doing a fundraiser for the boys Glenrothes club in in Baltimore, again more than likely he is not going to be back next year. But still he is coming into the town that he's been a part of for years upon years, and he's probably going to raise close to about a million dollars worth of the boys and Girls Club through fundraising efforts this weekend. So again, Adam Jones is a great guy. Again, it has done a lot of really great things for this community has been a vocal and social advocate out there. Again, it's hard to see him. Go. But at the same point pro baseball decision standpoint, it makes the most sense what the prospects that are in the wings. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, he's benefactor Baltimore for a long time. And obviously a good soul outside the baseball diamond. You know, when it comes to helping out and giving back, and you wanna see that from some of those guys, and I agree. I don't think he'll be back in with this new GM, the new mindset here. One of the big things that will be the whole major league baseball has been doing is not putting the best players out on the field because of service time, not for example, aren't taking the owners taking you got like kind of like a weird..
"oriole" Discussed on Painting Corners Podcast
"Austin Hartsfield, and Dave quit Caskey. So let's start with the new GM higher. There's a new sheriff in Baltimore. What do you think about the new GM? And do you think it's going to be I guess a better direction the prior one? So look in the Orioles organization has been a plagued with Peter. Liangelo is kind of stepping on the toes, and again as well as the Orioles have done over the past few years with Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter there has been a dissension within the front office. And specifically in the warehouse at Camden Yards. Danta cat liked to do things his own way book show. Walter light to do it a little bit differently on the field. I think with the recent hiring of Mike Elias. There's going to be more of a streamlined Pirjo. Again, applying the analytics purge that is absolutely necessary in this day and age, but also applying in terms of Michael is going out there and hiring a manager of his own choosing an inter getting that analogs approach into the given field again, you know, look look at do catch Showalter. Do cat wanted to introduce more of an analytics approach into the baseball. All you know, aspect for the Orioles Showalter's old school. He'd generally would apply some aspects of sabermetrics, but there are many times that he would indicate to the fan base that lineup order really didn't matter. So I'm really interested to see Michael is kind of do the metric approach invest back in the analytics department, and then again work on the Spektr prospect of element, which is of been barren for the Oriels for the past. Well, we'll call it twenty five years. So let's let's jump into the catcher position everybody. That follows baseball's intensely as we do has prospect crushes. I think we know that we get attached to prospects. You know, we follow them up. Let's just see. I love Cisco lot. Cisco might be my favorite catching prospect in baseball. I think he's going to be great for the Orioles to come. It's just just patients. Really? Yes. So Chan CISCO's an interesting one when you watch him behind the plate in terms of is like pitch framing, and you'll get from his pop up time, you say, okay, he could be an average catcher defensively in the American League. That's not a big deal. Again, you know, running is not a big aspect in terms of stolen bases. However, I'm not sure chances goes ever going to develop into that catcher that can work with a pitching staff to them. You know, I do raise the question of whether chances go is actually appropriate for being a major league baseball catcher. And again, one of the big things for tells eighteen coming in was we are expecting a really nice aspect to plate discipline again. Not a lot of pop behind his bat, but good plate split getting out of base. Chances didn't really deliver on that. In fact, you know. He lost a lot of players bow to kill Joseph who again wasn't that? Great. But Austin wins was also another individual that come to a lot of playing time away from him to you know, I want to love Chan Cisco. But I am curious to see if to Kansas goes one more that quadruple a player as opposed to the top one hundred prospect that some folks bleeped him too big into next season. You know, the Orioles currently have four men on their forty man roster. I do believe that one of them is going to get chopped off, dude, arbitration reasons, and that's kale Joseph who's been with the team for quite a while. I think ultimately is going to come into the two thousand nineteen sees where it's going to be a platoon of chances go and alster wins again chances cocaine back from left side. Also, what's come back from the right side? I think the ORs are going to try to figure out who is going to be that catcher the future. And if chance Cisco campy that catch the future, we'll position could he potentially play. There has been conversations about potentially moving him out to third base position. Or even just DA ching him going forward, or again, maybe some other organizations sees something..

I don't know how you can live magic. Yeah. Live magic and just talking about showing an arm out there. There was the Baltimore. That doesn't make any sense. Those two plans, I must've. This list. Yeah. Cramp. Oh list. Oh, I know what it is clip. You see this here is a clip. I have this little notebook. And right now this little notebook is holding very important notes to this show. Right. Because you can't do a podcast like this without very specific notes. People think this isn't scripted. But every word his script everywhere to scripted. So anyway, this is my species list notebook. And when I go birding, I'm pulling it out of my pocket all the time. And I'm writing down Baltimore Oriole tool and something like that. And so but Rama's keep pulling it out of my pocket and putting it in again. Hey, just start getting all wrinkled. It's a little spiral notebook in the pages. Get all wrinkled, and it's just a wrinkly mess. And so what I've done here. Bill. I I wish this was video. Wow. I have put a little clip on the bottom of the spiral notebook in holds all the pages flat. This is going to revolutionize bird. It will. I should go after me site. "Says he just a winter yeah asia's follow him on twitter on twitter terrible follow all right well the yankees play games they won both of them so that's a sweep in my mind so fuck the orioles friday sunny gripe pitched didn't start great chato homerun was not feel that this does not sit well with anybody when you know we've got an immediate home run in the first inning within pitching baltimore hot summer night thought shit we're gonna get ten runs to win this game and you really settled down i wouldn't say necessarily sharpe's his recent good starts where what was it who do you pitch well against kansas city was best one can't shut yeah he was not kansas city sharp but he was walk anyone fifty five strikes to thirty five balls we'll take that one run limited damage four hits didn't have too much trouble overall past the home run no walks is the biggest right for sure i didn't necessarily notice him have that quick pace that usually does that usually helps them out but then again the orioles are terrible baseball team so bad they said a decent offense and that's a hitters park so it's not a total on throw that out it's the orioles game i think prior to listening on saturday was listening to the radio call i was doing some quick i was doing belmont shopping so i was listening to radio for the first couple innings and they had said the orioles he lost i wanna say six in a row heading into yesterday so i was out seven zero but heading into that game they had scored seven runs in those six games so not only can they not field.

"Yes keira when you play when you play that noisy in the back of my head i was doing my broadcast announcer voice breaking news that that exactly but it wasn't really morse code because it wasn't variable it seemed very highly rep repetitive so it may just be some kind of a signal is opposite technological signal boat but not one that's transmitting specific information may be ranging location or ping or whatever that's very astute of you steam well okay so we had some guesses nicole for ron daise said it's the beep transmissions made by the first artificial satellite sputnik nicole i played this as a noisy i guess a couple years ago that's not it but that's a good guess very interesting i love satellite noses like that right like old school i fifty transmissions another listener guest name is david oriole he said i think this week's noisy is a dos based p c someone is at the command prompt and is holding down a key on the keyboard until the pc starts beeping i've done that many times that's that's not correct either jim kelly guest i think this week's noisy sounds like a number station transmission remember the numbers station sure yeah the lincolnshire poacher was an old noisy we played many many years ago he said one of those secret spy things that transmit data in code right correct oh i love those i love that they're still using them to it's so cool.

"Nettie n ninety yet ninety eight for the record low our aid sit well it will be a pleasure to read you all your your long on the inki is you can find mark on twitter of course it mark craig you can find tim at the athletic nyc good luck with new parenthood good luck with new slash olds beets and enjoy spring trading all right thanks for having me guy by the remote all right let's take another quick break end we'll be right back with britney drily of mlb dot com to top baltimore orioles inau numerous down in this stone written in the sand i am the iron the way man believed the bomb and on the beach all right so we are now joined by brittany drily who covers the orioles were and will be dot com she is still writing the adrenaline high of an interest squad game in sarasota florida each auriol's displayed some version of actual baseball but brittany how are you get area okay so earlier this week we talked to chelsea jane said about the nationals and we made mention of the fact that overshadowing the nationals offseason and really their entire season is the impending free agency of brace harper so i'm guessing that the same is sort of the case with the orioles said many machado which obviously dominated a lot of the news and non news about the team this offseason why do you think he ended up staying where he is for this final season do you think he will make it through the season and just how much of a a story will this be how many times with you have to write a menu machado post the next few months only got my door aiming.

"Breaks the record in in this case no it is the the baseline projection seemingly with luck stripped out as that both the yankees and the orioles are going to exceed the alltime home run record which was set by your team the mariners it's wild 1997 seattle mariners at two hundred and sixty four home runs almost one of a nail the us they were disappointing but so that that mark of two hundred sixty four has stood for twenty years twenty one years whatever and and now the yankees are projected to hit two hundred and sixty nine home runs that's an estimate based on playing time and of course the estimated projections and the orioles are projected to hit two hundred and sixty seven home runs so like you just said it's crazy to have two teams projected to break a record that just doesn't really make a whole lot of sense but in 1997 the average baseball team hit one hundred sixty six home runs this year the average baseball team is projected to hit one hundred ninety eight home runs and last year the average baseball team hit two hundred and four overrun so really this is pretty obviously this is a function of two things got to powerful teams and you know rising tides and boats and all that stuff so it's easier to set a new home run record than it would have been back then but yes the head of the yankees are very clearly topheavy i think the orioles are easier to overlook because well they're not the yankees there the orioles but they have eight players projected to hit at least twenty home runs this season does a lot the yankees only have five now the yankees also have like two of the top three projected homerun hitters in baseball and that's what everyone talks about but everyone on the orioles can hit the ball out of the yard the can't can't really do a whole lot else but he can they can hit home runs right he ah both project to be recordbreakers only one projected to be good overall and even like good offensively instantchat i should say there's there's another plot in that post that a that shows projected batting runs versus average and you know the astras are projected to be easily the best offense again because they're great the royals are terrible.

"Probably worked with most closely over the past o four years or so going back to our grant one days said this is normally a pretty family friendly podcast but i make no promises that that will be true of the next few minutes because of about to talk about the baltimore orioles with my dear friends esteemed editor and beloved binge mode cohost mallory rubin and asking mouth to keep it pg while talking about the orioles would be like asking many machado to give up his gloves dh so kids covering fierce mallory to the podcast what how white interro ben thank you for having me i wa i will try my best not occur though it will not be easy i want the the full ringer slack experience that the ringer mlb slide out ashes just pure maoris id responding to auriol's news not that there's been a lot of that this yeah factly you're going to leader mora thoroughly branded a butchered way bore the netflix yeah so i thought of you this week because i was reading about how zach britain's might be the savior of the orioles rotation of all people the guy who has a ruptured achilles and is out for at least half the season maybe could be converting back to the starting rotation in that just seemed like a very auriol's pit of news this winter because i'm gonna just read you a complete list of orioles offseason transactions at don't worry this will not take long so on november two three rd november 22nd the orioles traded for twenty five year old oakland a's outfielder jacob brukman unknown sender 14th they signed another twenty five year old in this case career minorleaguer michael kelley who has a five six nine era at aaa two eight major league contract for some reason and that's it we're done that was the whole list so of leaving out some wafer claims an grew five fix a minorleague free agent signings but.
