Emily Harrington is first woman to free climb Golden Gate route on Yosemite's El Capitan in one day
"Herring to becoming the first woman to free climb El Capitan in a single day. She's a professional rock climber Emily Harrington. Made history when she scaled the 3000 FT Granite wall of Yosemite National Park's El Capitan in under 24 hours. There's someone who could care less about the election going on. Doing it in under 24 hours in order to free climbed el cap in a day you have to cut corner for me. It was just about balancing what types of risk I was willing to take in orderto sacrifice. My safety for seed head wound from a bad fall during the climb almost prevented her from completing it. There was a part of me that didn't want to Going, But there was this other part of me that just knew that I could do it and I deserved. I owed it to myself to try again. Carrington pushed through, making her way up nearly 3000 Ft of El Cap, one of the biggest, most iconic walls known the world over for its sheer size and difficulty. Harrington is only the fourth person ever to free climb the Golden Gate route in a single day. Using just her hands to grip ridges, sin his dimes and ropes only as a safety measure not to aid the climb. I feel like anybody could conceivably die on any given day Sport of rock climbing, made popular in the documentary Free Solo, which followed Alex Honnold as he successfully attempted the first free solo climb of El Capitan. Which states will have a recount?
"Biden is the projected winner of the presidential election. The Associated Press called the race yesterday after he took both Pennsylvania and Nevada now President Trump's legal team not backing down, though they filed lawsuits, and they've also called for recounts. We'll break down the rules regarding that process in some of the key states the first let's take a look at Georgia there. State law does not require an automatic recount. A deadline to request one is two business days after county certify the vote. The margin must be half a percentage point or less, in order to have a recount. If the recount is approved, there is no set deadline for completion. And right now, Joe Biden leads in Georgia by just under 20.0.2 percent. Let's go to Michigan. Now there will be an automatic recount if the difference in the races 2000 votes or less. The deadline to request request to recounts two days of the canvas. There's not a required margin in orderto have a recount, and there's also no set limit for when it has to be completed. But Joe Biden currently leads in Michigan by more than 100,000 votes. Meantime, Nevada also does not have an automatic recount rule. Party officials can't request of recounts in the three days after the statewide vote canvas Recounts must be finished in 10 business days. Biden leads there by more than 30,000 votes moving onto North Carolina. Automatic recounts are not required. "And when those big numbers of voter turnout, either by mail in person or the early voters that may or may not help some of the other candidates along the tickets across the country. Only three seats. It bite and wins because he would then be the tiebreaker where there's going to be a problem or where it's. You know, we're looking at very closely as a possible problem up in Maine, where Republican Senator Susan Collins is in a very tough fight toe hold onto her seat being challenged by Sarah, Giddy on there. And the Senate races were watching right now. Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, These air all some high profile races that we are watching, and so far right now, I'm seeing that. Yeah, The Democrats seem focused on Pennsylvania Joe Biden yesterday back again today, Camilla Harris today saying it be decided they're Biden claims it's his first home. Polling has been good. But now the NBC Marist poll today shows it tightening. Where does this stand? Well, it's on the horse race side. You can't tell, but it's been a very stable election. Even in Pennsylvania, Biden held the lead anywhere from 4 to 10 points, depending on which poll and at what point in this campaign. But that's the nature of this campaign is so unusual is how little has really changed lately. I mean, when you were tracking polls and you're only you know, seeing Ah pointer to tightening or loosening in the course of an election. It shows you a very stable electric. In other words, people have made up their minds and we've seen in the last month. People are voting in record numbers during these early votes, And so my guess is Pennsylvania. I would say. Friends toward Biden because he's never been behind in any public or private survey I've seen, but you know, we're see what happens on Election Day. Yeah, Also Florida I mean, for the most part of Florida Early on, and who knows early eyes? It goes for for Biden. They're saying that it's over. Yeah. If Florida goes for Biden, there's really no way for Donald Trump. To find a path to victory mean Biden start with some of the Trump states that he won before pretty much in Hiss. Calm. Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin. These are all states that Biden is right now tracking an almost 10 in some cases, 12 points. So you take those states away from Donald Trump. And he can't afford to lose those Bay States and the biggest one that he Has in play 29 electoral votes is Florida now have the two things have the pollsters learned anything since 2016 number one and have the Democrats learned anything since 2016 I'll take the last one. What the Democrats learned is that they needed to pick their spots as to where they need to win in orderto get the necessary electoral votes and And Hillary Clinton's campaign spread themselves all over states that were completely unnecessary. They had people in Arizona and other places the week before the election thinking we're going to turn Red States blue. What? What Joe Biden has shown is the discipline to park himself. As you said earlier in Pennsylvania, every surrogate he has in the country was in there today. And he's planted a flag. If I win Pennsylvania, I win the presidency and I'm fighting here. And he has Ah, just in just in the past hour in campaigning, talking to young talking to students, saying that they that they are the key. I mean, the Democrats have needed, you know, asking that question to motivate young voters. Michelle Obama's been beating this drum now since Since 2016 the young have to be showing up. Are we seeing that they will Yeah, There are record turnouts bank on Which state you're talking about in Pennsylvania is one of them where under 25 8. Voters are starting to show up in much bigger numbers than they did in 2016. Now whether or not that follows on Election day. These are all the early voters that we can track. But if that follows up on Election Day, the young voters could actually make a big impact on the state like Pennsylvania. OK, let's and and the presidency, of course, is what everybody focuses on the most for very good reason. But But let's let's look at the Senate here. I mean, if you're a Democrat, and you're looking at this, you're saying, Wow, we have a really good shot that this could flip. Yeah, His Senate is ah, Titan. There's no question about that. Republicans have probably five or six states where they have likely swings to the Democratic side, potentially. And they only have one pickup in in in. Ah, Alabama. What is interesting? State toe Watch is Georgia. Not only do you have a Senate race up for grabs, But you have a special election for a senator to Senate seats up in Georgia this year. And Georgia has a funky law where you have to get over 50% of the vote, or you go to a runoff. And at this point, neither one of the incumbent Republicans there look like they're going to be able to get to 50%. So you could have the control. The Senate decided months later in a special election on top of the special elections you already have? Yeah, possibly in in January. Now now vote counting. Of course, you know, we hoped to see something tomorrow probably won't. But the president has said that he may claim victory on on election night anyway, both sides of lawyered up. This could be a mess as well. I don't want to be negative, Bob, but but this could be a mess. Well, The good news is states run their elections and so unless they decide to defer to the president states, which would be extraordinary, right? No, no state Tends to do that voluntarily, then they're going to count at their own pace. In fact, we've never had an election where the actual elections certifications. We're on election night. They always take days later. In order to facilitate all the ballot collection and count all the ballots, And then the state certifies. There's there. It just simply doesn't happen on election night in any election we've ever had. And so I think that most of the states if their discipline and they follow their own rules, they'll pay no attention to the president's protestations. He did this in 2018 during the Florida governor's race where he said, Oh, you know, all the votes were counted, and we ought to just move on. We're Yeah, we're going to have to leave it there. Trump wants Fox News journalist fired over reports on his alleged U.S. troops insults
"Was also the host of CNN's Reliable sources. Program joins us to talk about what you uncovered about the evolution and impact of the Trump Fox partnership. But first we're going to get his take on some of today's political news and welcome Brian Stelter. Good to have you with us. Hey, great. Grateful to be here. Thank you so much. I'd like to begin by talking about the article by Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of Atlantic whom you had on your program on CNN's reliable sources, just on Sunday. And just for some background for listeners who may not know about this. Trump is alleged to have called those who died in World War one losers and suckers. They were buried in a cemetery outside of Paris and supposedly Again. Allegedly. He didn't want to honor the dead for fear his hair would be messed up. Jennifer Griffin of Fox News has backed up the story and confirmed it in the White House is denied it. They've given the title of your book called it a Hoax. And Trump said it never happened, but I want to get to here is Trump wants girlfriend fired, he said. Fox News is gone. This is maybe change the relationship with Fox. First of all your thoughts about that, but also About what Goldberg told you, Which is this is just the tip of the iceberg. I do expect more reporting in the coming days, including quite possibly from Bob Woodward's book. I Hate to start out talking about some other author. But I'll tell you what. There's a lot of anticipation for Woodward's book Rage, which comes out next Tuesday. And I think one of the reasons why Jeffrey Goldberg published his story when he did. Was perhaps because he thinks what word has some similar reporting. So look, we will see we will find out when that book begins to leak, But I think that the Atlantic and other outlets Have Provided Mohr evidence of a pattern of the president, disparaging veterans and disrespecting the military. Some of this is in the president's own words, including yesterday. When he comments on people at the top of the military just wanting to start wars. Making basically calling them or profiteers. No, I think what the president has done by attacking Fox on this story. By saying reported over Griffin should be fired because she was able to corroborate part of Jeffrey Goldberg report. Is that he's working the refs. He doesn't want news on Fox News. He only wants propaganda. So one minute he will attack a reporter at Fox or complain about Anchorage, Fox, and the next minute he will promote Pete Hegseth, Jeannine Pirro. I'll call into Sean Hannity show her fox and friends. It shows that he doesn't want journalism on the air. He wants pro trump opinion in orderto keep his base is solid as a rock. Well, he's going against Ah, much respected reporter here who has had a great deal of praise for her integrity on the fact that matter is Fox kind of threw her under the bus, didn't they? I think Fox did not sufficiently. Promote and tout its own reporting. So once Griffin had corroboration for some of Goldberg's account, she did go on the air once and talk about it. A couple other shows, acknowledged it. But the dominant theme of the coverage was still trumps denials. And I would understand that they'd emphasize the denials. The president was known to be a proud on his truth Teller, someone who never told a lie. But this president has proven that his words are meaningless. By his own actions. He's country to himself all the time and lied to the public constantly about the pandemic and other matters. Soto lead with the president's denial seems faulty to me. Especially when your own reporter from your own outlet. Has backed up some of the reporting. But again, this just shows the tug of war between Fox and inside Fox between news and opinions, and I think it shows that opinions almost always winning. Well, let's talk, though, about what has come out of this controversy, which is the whole validity of unnamed sources. There have been certainly a lot of accusations that many do not corroborate the story. In fact, John Bolton's name has been mentioned on frequent occasions as well as other Trump supporters who claim that he never said what has been alleged here. On yet you have Carl Bernstein. I think on your show, saying with Watergate under Nixon, they were close to 200 sources that were simply a name. So it's the nature of ice floes reporting and journalism to a great extent, sometimes to have on named sources. But Let's get to the heart of it. I mean, this has been certainly stirring around this controversy. It absolutely has. And I think it is great to have a chance to talk about anonymous sourcing because it is so often misunderstood, and reporters don't do enough to explain why and how we rely on anonymous sourcing number one. The source's heir, never anonymous to the reporters and to their bosses. You know, when I'm using anonymous sources for CNN, at least one of my bosses has to know if the story is very sensitive than multiple people are going to know the identity of this person. And we're going to have a conversation about why they're credible and why we're taking their word and why we're publishing it. You know that kind of checks and balances system is what journalism needs. And what the public needs to know happens so they can have more confidence in the reporting. You know, with with regards to the Atlantic, I think We also know a couple of things from Jeffrey Goldberg record number one. He has quoted John Kelly on the record before he's quoted James Mattis on the record before he clearly has journalistic relationships with some of these retired generals. And that's helpful to know if you're wondering who his sources might be for this story.

COVID-19 vaccine sees early positive results

And potentially hundreds of millions of Americans willing to get vaccinated in orderto achieve herd immunity, and doctors say it's key for companies to test large numbers of people both old and young to prove the vaccine is safe and effective. If we sort of cut corners on those things, I don't think we should create the confidence people need, so I think we can get there, but we have to do it. You do it right on.
