"Myself Slayer there and rot Swaggy with orange, courting shingles, the Polish powerhouse and joining us Mike Kilborn with roof to deck restoration, Mike, We're talking about our ways to enjoy more ways to enjoy your outdoor living space and to bump that curb appeal, And I think having you on is very appropriate for that from just for the listeners that don't know about roof to deck or having caught you on the show before give us a snapshot. So, um, rough did at restoration is, um, and exterior maintenance company, so to speak. So we we want power washing and stain decks fences because evils porches, cedar shake roof, So there's some curb appeal. We were just talking about, um yeah, 40 to 50% of viewing area home is sometimes you're rough. We clean asphalt roads, So if it's a streaky roof, you know he's got that dirty. Look to it. We wash those. Um So, um, yeah, so perfect for all this stuff. It's kind of we have a lot of people that I mean between now and the end of June is People are calling us like crazy to get things you take streaks out of all services. Um not all the surfaces cotton. No, you asked. I'm just here. I don't like where this is going. Yeah, I just I know a friend that might need some help. But anyhow, stays like rust stains. We can help with that old. Well, same color but different. Something else. OK s O. You cleaned and maintained homes. That's awesome. Ah, lot of people need that and don't want to get a pie on the ladder or get on top of a roof. But what about the outdoor living spaces that people wanna hang out on and enjoy their death? Well, yeah, deck. I mean, of course. I mean, you're having friends and family over, especially probably Now more than your entire life is spending more time at home kind of thing. In entertaining at home and all that sort of thing. And you want a nice, clean deck, right? You know you people are your kids are coming out your grandkids, probably or in some cases, so making your deck You know, beautiful. And of course, protecting it is what really? That's what we are really all about. Not Ross. You don't have to raise your hand in the show. Stop. Make me nervous. Good. So I have I mean, I used to Experiment with this deck in once in a while, and we would come across this gray weather deck and everyone thinks they need a new deck. But, boy, you could make that thing like blonde, like, nice and fresh right out with just a little power washing right? It can look new. You don't have to spend new lumber prices. You know for my guys. Okay? My employees. It's a really fun. Job to have because you're walking into, you know, a situation where it looks terrible. I mean, it's not only great could be black from algae and moss and all this stuff and you know our 23 hours later, it looks like it's brand new. I've had. People say it looks better than it when it was new. They think you're done after your power wash. And you're like, Actually, we We haven't even done that. Well, then we have to stand it. And you know what? I mean, Honestly speaking the best You're ever your deck will ever look is right after we're done power Washington, But that is why is that? Well, It's just It's natural. It's would. It just looks so beautiful. Just natural. You put a brighten her on their wealth. Yep. Yep. So what We It's a really good question, so okay, He's good for one thing, the processes we either you sodium hypochlorite or erso, Amper carbon it or sodium hydroxide. That's what I thought was that mix it with water? Yep, mixed with water, And then then we power wash it now the power washer is just a tool to rent's a renting tool. It's not us. It's not a stripping tool right? And that's really important because if what is soft, and if you use it as a stripping tool, you're gonna tear up the wood and people. I'm sure I've seen that before. After we've rinsed it off or washed it. Then we use exotic acid, which sounds kind of nasty, but that's a wood brighter. That's what I thought, too, neutralizes the pH back to seven and then brightens the wood and then allows it to dry. We allowed to drive for a couple days. Come back with a moisture meter, okay to make sure it is dry, and then we stand it by hand. So let's talk about this because a lot of people I want to get after the deck the first time and chances are it's probably the last time that they'll they'll do it, but a lot of misconceptions. So you get a green treated deck right away. How long do you have to wait before? Staining it. You know, some people say, you know, Okay, Some would people say six months, Some say a year I've had The red cedar. Representative said, No, we want it done right away as soon as the decks is stalled, so you know, just whatever you feel comfortable. Yeah, I've always heard Cedar. You could do pretty much immediately and anything like green treated like you're talking about for decades. It's good to give it a full season, but because it needs to cure And what do I know? Well, it dry it needs to. Yeah, cured dry. It needs to dry because what we use is an oil based stain, and that's the most important thing. When it comes your wood deck. Oil based stain. Do not use water. Okay? Do not use the water based do not use latex or anything like that. What about on the railing water to oil to spindles? Maybe you could paint, you know, because it's vertical. Just like you're siding that works fine. But on the floor. What happens is is on on a flat surface. It gets really hot, right? You've walked out on the deck where your feet are really hot, right? So the top of the wood could be 120 130 degrees, where the bottom of that same piece of wood can be like 70. I mean, it could be like a 52 degree different so what? And then at night that top cools and the wood you know by morning is exactly the same temperature again and then it heats up. And so what happens is that would contracts the top part? When it gets hot and then expands at night again. So every day this many earthquake is happening to your hot, just hearing, right, So when you put a water on because water is the film, it doesn't soak in. So it lays on the top. So this would every day is expanding and contracting, and it just basically peels the paint right off. Sure, so Water's bad oil soaks in it moves with the wood that sort of thing. So you guys really get into it from a scientific aspect of it?.

"I don't know if you'll had the teal blue. There are certain things growing up. That i have very very distinct. Memories of one of them was my dad's igloo cooler. It was the cooler. Was the size that you could probably get about four or five drinks him canned drinks if you're thinking about sizes so did that helps you. Imagine assess you know somewhere between when i left home in nineteen ninety nine and in twenty twenty one. The cooler business exploded just exploded high end coolers people spending a lot of money on coolers has been a show sponsor in the past. They're not today but they have been in the past and i use their What do you call this. Tumbler user tumbler. Every day i start with a pipe and hot cup of coffee which is basically a thermos because i drink on it a drink a couple during the course of the day but i drink on it for about six hours of the day. Especially do is intermittent fasting. It's the only thing that gets me through. Because i got to be doing something with my hands in my mouth and so that that keeps me from which is what i wanna do anyway. But that igloo cooler. My dad had one that because at the dupont and orange for every so many hours the plant winter days the plant went without an accident. Everybody we get you know something and one year. It was an igloo cooler. And it said dupont Sra sabine river authority. Orange texas or whatever and that was the family cooler. We probably got that cooler in nineteen seventy eight if you walk into my parent's garage today. That cooler will be opened in facing downward because there might be a drop of water in there in that cooler will be sitting there now if i've bought one cooler i've bought twenty five and i couldn't find a cooler right now. I'd have to go to the store and buy another one. My dad wore the same pair of shoes that we got him for father's day on sale. Discount in a brown pair of nike shoes and or that in that same pair to this day which is still in his closet. Looks like it came off the showroom floor. the cars are to be washed. The monkey grass is to be trimmed. The cooler is cleaned. The minute you come home turned upside down so that it drips out. The dishes are to be washed in place back where they go and dry and put back that that those level of values you know we are house. I don't know i better house. Twelve hundred square feet. And i never thought of it as small. I do now because you go into these. People got nine thousand dollar houses now. Thousands ten thousand square foot go. You know it never. It never seems small. He built it himself. It's just different time. We didn't buy. Today we batterings and i'm as guilty as the next guy. We'd buy things and throw them away and my kids are worse than me and it drives me nuts. And i have to tell them. That's not what how. We did things when i was growing up if we had something that was. That's what you had. There was the phillips head screwdriver. There was a flathead. I've got i buy them lose them. Give them away. borrow wine. Can't find none of them matt's our whole deal. You know what. I'm a sucker for the those little battery powered like the riots and all that the loew's brand is cobalt the home depot brand roby. I will go in there and buy stuff that that battery powers and literally never use it. I'm just so excited that they have it. Oh 'cause i've got like five of those batteries. Because whatever i have i have to have a bunch of and i have got a i've got little blowers big blowers air compressors. I've got everything with that stupid little battery anyway growing up. You had one of something and you didn't lose it and you put it back where it was supposed to. And somehow that just feels better. Rebecca what you got ya. I was wondering the name of the restaurant in belleville. That michael was touting the evening of the afternoon meal oh it was. It was something with like gourmet food. Or yeah yes so. That was twenty two north holland twenty two. It's over on east main street if you know where the where the courthouse is. There's several streets that kind of there's there's a circle around the courthouse by the way. I love old courthouses but that was a terrible place to put that courthouse because god awful ugly courthouse. And that's hard for me to say. Because i love old courthouses the austin county. Courthouse is not a pretty thing. It's a probably mid fifties mid sixties is that new modernism style. So it's not the it's not like the old orange court house is probably from the late twenties early thirties. It's federalism style. It's a real real almost burgundy brick beautiful old building historical billy and it's got the big staircase out front and its setback from green avenue. The austin county courthouse. They had this great idea that they were going to put the courthouse in the middle of the town square. And so now. You can't see across the square. And i love town squares and did i mention. It's an ugly courthouse. So i suggested ray yesterday that they level the courthouse moved the courthouse down the way and open that back up and put a park or something out there and he said. I don't think that's going to happen but it seemed like a good idea. Yeah and i do love old courthouse. I don't want you. i don't love old courthouses. i just don't think that courthouse should be right. Word is although it's pretty cool when you drive in you have to drive around the courthouse. The the town circle there drive around the courthouse in this right there in the middle and then at graduation time this is what i love about small towns at graduation time the the local high school every one of the kids gets.

the tone of love was was a problem so and that's another thing for the snow is is that what I was thinking of we lost the snow goodness knows if you have like security lights that down the hallway if you've got kids and stuff they got some bubble lights that are really and truly the old style bubble lights you've got little vignettes now there about four inch squares I don't know what who thinks all the stuff up but I I love this yeah I'm surprised there wasn't like a Donald Trump night life because there is a I mean at that show I'm Tony what there was a Donald Trump everything I mean and it was there was love and hate spewing everywhere at the exact same time yep to the strongest emotions yeah the merchandise yeah I'm telling you though but I mean we're sold out of I mean Donald Trump we'll get on that Richard Michelle is from the materials corporation joins us on the program Hey Richard good afternoon Hey Pat Hey Danny how're you guys we're doing well brother how you been it seems like it's been forever since I've talked to you so the voice is a change of seasons affect the different type of calls you on course we have the water you know when it rains we get that when people you know drive in the houses what about this this quick change of temperature we're supposed to be at zero degrees next Tuesday does that affect the right business you guys gear it does what we were noticed an earlier is that people start to think oh my gosh if they wanted like exterior painting a work done they were calm and try to get that in before the season now we'll probably start after this week will probably start getting some calls on possibly some water damage were you not expose pipe or garden holes or something like that for a loan mostly things like maybe some ice damming if okay yelled some snow and ice but but I don't think that's predicted this weekend but we'll see during the call whether we're gonna see the ice damming the frozen pipes and we see a little increasing fire activity yes somebody use them to an extension cords right now and you know what that's the thing is that we've been trying to to kind of push the old electric here thing again and right hi people's awareness right and people at large the funny thing Richard and me and you know this is like you know we always push don't use an extension cord and the reason we set a because some people think well if I just use an orange one it's going to be okay and they don't realize that the brown and white what we call household extension cord is sixteen gauge and most of the standard orange courts are sixteen gauge that they're exactly the same they just have OSHA collar on him for use outdoors so my rule of thumb is just plug the thing right in the wall along with every other gadget that's in the house I now I know you have to find the right circuit the other thing they don't realize a fifteen hundred wants it hogs up if it's a fifteen amp circuit it's Haugen up quite a bit of that and almost need to be its own you know on a circuit by itself dedicated right exactly yeah so so yeah your question yet did you know that the the called the requests from clients it does change a little bit who well we'll just we'll deal with the the service request as they come in the Irish look pretty good the Irish of computer look pretty good last night ya know they didn't show the hard I think had a tougher opponent to date was out west west Lafayette yeah they did they there was a sectional game only at their home field now and so both teams advanced how does a spark plugs due to any of the I did not hear I think they got the name like one no I think they got the first now you can go to the game did you I did not I you know I was still too chilly for me I now know I think it was our own yeah me too I was just so I am not and now I feel bad because I would have loved to see them the Trojans player but just simply next week yeah I think their plan Korea doesn't want someone from fort Wayne I believe him yeah all right best of luck they're great to eat yeah all right Richard thanks for spending the time.
