"Folks just like me who are north of 50. And in my case, well north of 50 and realizing we ought to be having more fun in taking better care of ourselves. Those two things go hand in hand. By the way, you never know when it's going to be your turn. You know what I mean? You'd never But I do believe you can let lots of people cut ahead of you in life's checkout lane. If you become proactive about exercising, eating better getting enough sleep, and so on. Every time I eat more than a couple of cookies are more than a cup of ice cream. Well, not every time but sometimes Okay now and then, when I do something like that, I cannot help but think of it. There's one guy have interviewed a dozen times on this show, Dr John Higgins, a cardiologist who's given so generously of his time. He has always absolutely hammered the importance of exercise and healthy diet. We're gonna get into that today, but not with him and not down that same path of slightly different path when we talked to Dr Wesley McWhorter about the relationship between diet and diabetes. Before. Then, however, I'll remind any of you who might have forgotten and this is this audience. There may be a few people who forget things. I know I do a reminder that today is Father's Day. I lost my dad almost 30 years ago. Guys 30 years ago, almost to a major heart attack just before dawn. I got that call from my mom and I'll never forget that it was pretty rough. At least he didn't suffer along with the sudden loss was Was really tough on my mom. My sister me all his friends and and the rest of our family. And yes, I do still think about him. I still miss him. And I definitely wish I could have another conversation with him. Let's take a moment, I think would be appropriate here to just just a couple of seconds of silence in a minute or so. Just think about our dads and think about the contributions they made good or bad and mine wasn't perfect. He was no angel, but he did the best he could before he had and On the whole, we finished up pretty strong. By the way. The reason you heard a rebroadcast this past week was that I was in Orange Beach, Alabama place that actually holds some pretty good memories for me since I played baseball over in mobile a long time ago. And a place in which I've called a lot of fish over the years, too. I was there for my son's baseball tournament. Totally different college baseball, then 13 year old baseball, But the team actually did pretty well didn't quite make it to the finish line. But we played hard and won some games. One more than we lost. Actually, I think, 123. No. Yeah, we did. We won more than we lost between games and before games and after games pretty much any time I wasn't driving him somewhere, I fished. Something. I like a lot and I did all I could while I was there. I talked about that a lot on my outdoor show this weekend yesterday and today and couldn't help but mention it here as well Out of respect for my non fishing audience members. However, I'll stop short of the details on Specifically what I caught. And on what lures. I know you don't care. I understand perfectly to that's just not for everyone. Nobody could stand in the same spot cast in the nearly same place on the water and Hoping each time that this was the cast that would fool Spanish mackerel or speckled trout or a red fish. I'm just wired that way. A little later in the program. We're going to talk about a device that looks odd on first glance, But when you use it right can help relieve some of the pain we get around our midsection. Down there in the hips and what, not In a nutshell, It stretches and Lucien's some of those really small specific muscles and I get benefit from stretching any muscle I can stretch these days. This thing just kind of got my attention, and so I wanted to bring it to your attention. I got a chance to try it. And once I figured it out, it worked finally to wrap up. We will talk about Father's Day. We're going to talk to Gina Burka Meyer about that the importance of dads on Father's Day. I'm a dad patiently waiting for my 13 year old son to realize. And it's It's not an easy journey as you all know, to realize that there are a lot of things I know more about than he does. And there are very few things contrary to what he believes that I don't know anything about. He's a great kid. Really. Overall. I can't. I can't knock him but that teenage thing it's kind of rears its ugly head now and then, and we have to just deal with it back for another minute or so of that mentioned I made earlier about an exercise and how it can prolong your life on the trip to Orange Beach. My son and I stayed on the third floor of a big all suites kind of a hotel place right there on the water on the beach. Third floor, plus the parking space, the parking garage, which was underground, so four flights of stairs, and it actually turned out to be closer than the elevator. But by the time we walk from our room to the elevator to the parking garage, up and down those stairs made the most sense. And I'm quite proud to let you know that I walked up and down those four flights of stairs. Every time. Until we left that building. When we were hauling luggage. We went ahead and took the elevator back down. But before that it was up and down those steps by half a dozen times today wasn't easy. But I made it and I feel better for it. It actually made me feel pretty good. So on this father's day This father's Day edition of 50 Plus will leave with some diet tips for diabetics and for people who don't want diabetes, then moved to that hip device. I told you about a minute ago, took me a little while to figure it out, but it has helped with some tightness down there. And then we will anchor of course, with some talk about the influence of fathers on Father's Day. I really do appreciate you listening. I'm so glad to be back here in Houston Back here in sugar land where I live..

"They're better angels the director of the National Institutes of Health Dr Francis Collins says and I'm quoting him now the unfortunate mix of science and politics is contributing to vaccine hazardously what are you doing to counteract those fears among your residents of Miami Beach and I'm sure many of them have those fears that a vaccine might not be safe and effective even if they hear it is, let's say from the president. I think they're going to listen. We have really and I think really because of this abdication, of leadership. We're in a pickle right now everywhere, people don't trust each other they don't trust science they don't trust obvious a healthcare direction. So in in that situation, we don't know what to tell anybody. I'm begging people to wear masks are police, officers, and code officers come up to people who are not wearing a mask, put themselves in peril to get them to wear masks we give masks away free and then. We see the president holding rallies where he doesn't seem to care becky's relishing it. People don't have faith in government right now in the and by the way that's that's all you really have when you don't have vaccine, you need people to have need people to listen and we need to be on the same page. Category Two at twenty inches of rain or more. It was devastating amount of flooding trees down we're our only Ivan. Meterologist devastating. Long straights you can't move around the island. We're GONNA have to do a lot of work just to get mobile. How about the people where you are you are in Orange Beach. What can you tell us had there been rescues? How are the folks doing? Yeah, we had a significant amount of spirits are razz level last night. So between about twelve in daylight, we ran one, hundred, twenty plus. Emergency a We have much sixty people in the saw in our REC center they were rescued in it. It was really Harry there for a while gotTA give. World police and fire who didn't hesitate got into Star and went after those folks that were need. And I understand what your entire island is without power right now, any idea when it might be restored. That is correct. We don't know a low county got hit hard throughout. Regulation. Are the president's now taking questions from reporters at the White House public likely would not be available until probably next summer maybe even early fall are you comfortable with that time? Now I think he made a mistake when he said that it's just incorrect information. And I called him. And he didn't tell me that and I, think you got the message maybe confused maybe it was stated incorrectly now we're ready to go immediately as the vaccine is announced and it could be announced in October could be announced a little bit after October. About once we go, we're ready. As you know FIS as making this taking a tremendous financial risk and they're spending billions of dollars on actually making this vaccine during the stage where they're actually making it. Because, they feel very confident as to the results. He'll be announcing results fairly soon. And no he's that's incorrect information. We're away. Yeah. I think. So I don't think he means that I don't think he when he said it. I believe he was confused I I'm just telling you. We're ready to go for soon as the vaccine happens you want to see it available a time I would say that. We will start distributing immediately. General public very shortly. There I mean it really to the general public immediately when we go we go. We're not looking to say, Gee, six months we're start giving it to the general public. We Wanna go immediately. No, it was an incorrect statement. I saw the statement I called him I said, what did you mean by that? And I think he just made a mistake. He just made a mistake I. Think you misunderstood the question probably. Timeline on when every person in America will be able to get it back seen what would that I think would be very soon I think our distribution press is going to go very quickly I told you we've engaged the military we have a general who's in charge of all logistics who deliver soldiers he's Fantastic guy is supposed to be fantastic at what he does and we figured that's better than any company you're going to hire. You can't tire company like that and I we looked to Do, distribution immediately after we get the word that it's good and I think they're having tremendous success with vaccine itself I think the results will be early and strong. The safety has to be one hundred percent and we're going to insist on that and obviously.

"Let's go to Laurie in orange beach Alabama is a really orange worry you know what it's beautiful out here people don't realize how pretty Alabama beaches are even compare to Florida as a matter of fact alright as a matter of fact you know dear friend John chase at Audubon that's where his vacation home is in Alabama yeah okay yeah it's beautiful that's what he would tell me he says half the money yeah it's very expensive hi my question is answered my only thirteen SRX Cadillac into the dealership and for something that I needed six while they were headed back in the back for diagnosis another employee ran into my car in college front right mother damage they brought it out and I showed it to me they're very nice offer to pay for the repairs no the wondering if I have any other Jane I can claim instructions to manage a value well what years your Cadillac it's a twenty thirteen about from school and how many miles are on it about seventy five thousand okay what color is it I will pretty soft Golders yeah again once well see they're offering to pay for see this sewer gets a little touchy it depends on how good a job they do but because they're going to pay for a day I don't know that they're going to turn it into the garage keeper liability policy might never be reported I remember being repainted is no worse than hail damage but that would be the issue because if in fact you're you would have to say okay I had a car there's never been a rack now we have to repair this if I were going to trade my car and how much is used car guy get hit me for the damage repair the damage they're gonna have to order complete the rubber bumper and then the plastic casing for the spotlight those were most damaged well as a few scratches on the bumper yeah again making a difference you know if you have a flat white you know the gonna get that right if you have a flat black they're going to get that right if it's got some metallic flake in it I don't know the quality of their body shop but I'm pretty critical on body shop repairs as you now that being said I guess you're just gonna have to move forward with it I don't know what the laws are in Alabama about diminished value however the entire match it might be more favorable than you think because of ira gore have you ever heard of him ira gore he was an Alabama doctor who bought a BMW back in the days when BMW and Mercedes used to have body shops at the airport so there was damage on the car they would fix it before they shipped it to the dealer back when I was with Mercedes and I bought a one ninety currently mine was never tied down on the boat because they had it in the body shop in Houston for months before I got it although to be fair it was flawless when I got it doctor gore found out that someone had scratch the bumper on his BMW and it was repaired before was shipped to the dealer and he sued I forgot how much you got but you can Google it and I'm pretty sure I think he was an Alabama doctor to so that believe it or not that lawsuit was so intense that literally it changed the rules all damage had to be disclosed and all the major importers use have body shops at the port shutdown well yeah but but by the way folks that used to be really common all the time I would have the Mercedes on order they come in from Germany and yet they be in the port for two or three weeks and the only way that happen is of was in the body shop having something fix mine was there for months I used to make fun of it I said you know the broth cars over here they converted the ships in the cattle carriers to take him back to Europe and I said apparently mine made a round trip to the cattle and well have been trying to knock your cover you know something when you're in the car business things like that actually don't bother you much because you're in the car business I can understand where somebody who's not the car business and the time that that one ninety was twenty six thousand dollars when you go buy a Honda accord for ninety eight hundred but here in the car business you know that happens in the car was flawless when I got it but if I were customer buying the car I can see where that would upset me I sure absolutely in any case you gonna have to get the offer from a man say there's probably going to be a bit of diminished value on it because even you would dock my car if I traded it in after was repaired how much is that let's see if they're still nice after that okay that's what I'll do is I'll smile and be happy and you know how it comes out so many emails telling them to write should I take that to somebody else and to see if they did a good job because I'm not able to tell yeah you will if you're if you're really critical about yeah you will yeah you will okay and I want to know very quickly because again take one last quick break because I messed up the clock earlier I have had in the early days of had a number of people on the shows that I would "We are back on the program, and so glad you're with us. Spencer hall has joined us just in time, Spencer into Aung has has a summer gone pretty good. I had to recharge by retards my third coast, my Alabama. So it was in orange beach. Alabama was like, where can I go that pretty much like the most SEC beach destination possible. And you know the home of the floor Bama lounge was pretty much the best answer I had. So you were you were there, I'm assuming on vacation. Yeah, you know, for the weekend doing counters vacations, I don't think they do. I think that's cheating. So now that you're back. At least in college football is anything going on. I haven't really been paying attention the last two weeks now nothing's going on, especially in the big ten. Can you not laughing. I was on a show earlier and I, in Jim, Delany had a quote, and he's in Peru, which probably a pretty good place to be climbing mountains. And I like Jim very much as the Commissioner, but can you really bring him into this conversation? I mean, what? What does the Commissioner of the big ten really have to do with urban Meyer or the situation at Maryland? Well, the Commissioner, the big ten really has very little to do with it because we live in an Arctic in an anarchic political environment in college football, right. Even the commissioners have what is somewhat limited power over their conference members and hand over their football coaches, football coaches, very greatly in terms of the control sway and political power. They hold on campus. Right. So when you're talking about, well, Jim Delany should do something about the big ten. You know about this, this mess, they've got, Well, I, I would answer your. With another question, what what can he do? Right? We don't exactly know. You know that some schools matter more conferences than others, we know that some commissioners more powerful than others. Right. I would dare say Jim Delaney's probably on the long side of the scale in terms of power, right relative to someone like Larry, Scott, the in the Pac twelve. I think that what can he do? I, I think one his most important job is getting money for the conference, but to PR and you know, there should be way more proactive about this in terms of countering what I think could be justifiably negative perception of the conference. Overall, in terms of I dunno, treatment of student athletes management staff, right? Pick whatever you like. Because victims got the ball right now talking to Spencer hall who has an affinity for college football in the rumor is significant affinity for the university of Florida. I don't know that's ever been revealed before Spencer. So. Having Seth attainable here for you to sit down and eat. What about the Gators this year. Oh, this is the best kind of year. 'cause there's absolutely no expectation. Right. That's especially true. That's the greatest kind of year. Isn't it? Like this is what are your expectations? None. Everything will be surprised even like we're looking forward to new forms of mediocrity, right? Where we're tired of the old form of mediocrity. For instance. I don't know if the defense completely collapsed this year, but the offense managed to pick it up. We'd be excited to score. I don't know more than seventeen points in a big game booth twenties, like the two and the ten digit on the scoreboard at Florida. It's got dust on it. It's rusty. I don't know if the bulbs work, it'd be cool to see if all those little LED's alight up for sport. Dare I say over twenty points thirty. Dare to dream Paul new- mediocrities that's what we're looking forward to and on a series, they're trying to figure out who the quarterback is and where to put people that's year one, right? Get some recruiting onto your belt panicking a little bit about that right now. But I think it's a little too early to do that, especially with Georgia like setup plowing through every single piece of talent in not only. Joe, but in the SEC is a whole of that's going to take some time to turn around. I would just go ahead..
