"Is the 7th president in the history of the organization and has played a huge role in revamping the fan experience at a's games like adding amenities like Gourmet food trucks and all the access to the clubs, the Gourmet food trucks, creating new ticket programs, the Gourmet food trucks, and even hosting Major League Baseball's first completely free game. And Gourmet food trucks. So I guess my question to you is, how about those Gourmet food trucks? Because that sounds like a great idea. It is video for all the games we created this incredible environment called championship Plaza celebrates our 9 world championships and we get anywhere from 8 to ten food trucks at the games. You get everything from Creole food from Louisiana to barbecue. We get the crab shaft comes out. So it's just incredible different food offerings and it's just getting hungry just talking about it right now. And we get the Italian ice. I love the Italian ice one. It's just incredible. So all the food options are really fun and it's kind of a cool festival atmosphere and there's a big video board you can watch the game and we did this down when I ran the soccer team in San Jose, the earthquake and it's just a great environment for families to hang out and be at the game kind of in a different context. Yeah, I think about the times I go to what used to be PAC bell park and I can't even honestly recall what the name of it is now. AT&T park. AT&T Oracle. Okay, see? The change that all the time, man. It's like wherever the Giants play. And the food that they have there. I'm curious to get your take on what you think about how sharing a market the Bay Area with the Giants has changed over your time as president of the Oakland ace. I know that in the past there have been a lot of comments from a's management about the difficulties, the challenges of sharing that market with the Giants. I'd like you first to comment on how it's changed over your time and whether you see any parallels between sharing the Bay Area market between these two teams and what's happening say, for instance, in New York. Well, there's certainly challenges from a marketing perspective to have the two teams. You're competing over fans and things of that nature. I think long-term is good to have the rivalry of two teams. I think you could almost look to European soccer like in London or Tottenham is a big rival to arsenal and Chelsea. And it actually grows the interest in the sport. And I think one of the challenges we've had is we just don't have a facility to plan this at the same standards as Oracle park. And that puts us at a severe disadvantage. And so that's why if we can get this incredible crown jewel, a new waterfront stadium at Howard terminal, we're going to be able to compete as an equal or even at a higher level from a fan experience than the Giants because their stadium is 30 years old or 20 years old. And so I think that's really an important factor and our decisions as a franchise has to be made through the lens of, hey, this is a two team market. We're competing with the Giants and we have to create a product that's on the same level or higher. Well, the facility getting a new facility solved the issues when it comes to payroll and putting a competitive team on the field. Yes, I think it can because we're going to have several 100 million in additional revenue that we can then push back and reinvest in the players. We operate at almost a $250 million revenue disparity to the Giants. And they're able to funnel that back into both the fan experience and then most importantly, the player side. We competed at a very high level without those resources. So if we, I think, deploy that and give that to the Moneyball crew, Billy bean did enforce the whole team. I think we can be extremely competitive on a year to year basis than really compete head on. And so that's one of the reasons we're spending so much time on the ballpark effort and doing everything we can to kind of get a breakthrough and get it built because it is such a game changer for us. If you get a new ballpark on the waterfront in that area, how will you finance it? Will it go through trying to get some taxpayer dollars or will it be all privately financed? The stadium is all privately financed. It's part of a larger $12 billion, a real estate project that we are leading. And so there is tax increment financing, which is basically but for taxes, taxes that are only generated by the project that are used to pay back our upfront investment in infrastructure. So that is the contribution from the public side. At a public private partnership. And that's a typical way you'd see a big project like this done Hudson yards in New York and things of that nature. And it can be very effective at taking an area. This is an industrial area and really kind of reimagining it as a commercial and entertainment hub on the waterfront. How worried, therefore, are you about the state of the economy and rising interest rates on Oakland's appetite to fund something like that or contribute something like that? Or any other city for that matter is willingness to subsidize a new stadium in any way. Well, considering that the only dollars invested from the public side or dollars that are generated by the projects, there's very little risk for the municipality. It's very different than when the Raiders came from LA and they built the stadium or renovated the stadium for them and issued their own bonds. This is a very different deal and it's way more financially responsible for all parties. And more consistent with the ways these deals are put together in the Bay Area. So I don't think that the economy will have a noticeable impact on that. If anything, if the economy dips, there might be more of an initiative to say, we need a big project like this. Dave Cavill, thank you very much president of the Oakland a's. I'm the hope you had a good time and just to sit down with us and chew the fat about baseball. We really do appreciate it. Thank you, sir. Awesome. Thanks for having me guys. Dave Cavill. I always love talking baseball and obviously when you're the president of a Major League Baseball team, that's the guy to talk to about baseball. And I know Scarlett, the record is kind of low right now, but you know what? Not good. It's not good. But it's still baseball. And it still can be very good baseball. And like I was saying earlier, you don't have to have a big payroll to be competitive. Yeah, but the record overall leaves a lot to be desired. They have a three 29 winning percentage right now. The next worst team in the AL west has a four 61 winning percentage. So there are 22 and a half games back. They can make it up. From the Astros. Okay. I guess the question when it comes to the a's because they're so synonymous with money bald. I guess it works right now if you're going through the pain of refreshing the cycle and everything. And if you're going to be approved for a new stadium, now is the time or and you'll move potentially now's the time that refreshing that cycle could make sense. I don't know. It might create a lot of perhaps ill will among the fanbase too. I thought it was interesting that he said that they have more fans outside of the east bay than they do inside. And that's something that's why I wonder if that they're rooting to hit that waterfront stadium instead of moving the whole thing to Las Vegas. I think it would be much more beneficial for

"At Oracle Park, Gentlemen, If you don't mind, I feel like we should use our wisdom and experience to pass along some some life tips to the to the kids out there to the young guns. These young Thundercats, you ready to roll with me on this? Yeah, it's pretty cool. I just I feel like these young cats. Nowadays, they move differently, because all they know is the Internet and social media. And so they're used to sharing every detail about their lives. They just they live out loud while it ain't my type of get down. I can respect it because that's just how these young kids move, but you don't have to tell the world everything. Jamaar Chase wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, Jamaar Chase. Is having trouble, fellas. He's got a case of the drop sees as the very high draft choice for the Bengals. And why is he having trouble with the drops? He's not catching the football, he says. It's because The NFL football doesn't have the white stripes on it that the college football does. So because it doesn't have the white stripes on it. It's tough for him to pick it up, and I'm simplifying what he said here, but it's tough for him to pick up the ball in flight and catch it. And put it away. While that might be true, Yeah, don't need to say that out loud, Chief. Just keep it to you said no one wants to hear the fact that because the ball doesn't have stripes on it, you can't do your job, which is catch the football. No one wants to hear it. Yeah, Something tells me he is going to be just fine. Uh, he is going to be a spectacular player. But you're right. What's to be gained? You know? Yes, there's a stripe on the college ball. Yes, the college balls considered to be a little bit smaller than the NFL ball. If you believe people who have intimate knowledge of both footballs, But I mean, come on. I think the other issues I watched one of their games. Is that he? Um I don't know what he they said he ran for the stopwatch. But he ain't getting separation. Now. He made a lot of contested. Catch it at At L s u. He's a tremendous player either way, but I haven't seen him separate from anybody and these NFL corners are up on him, and I think that's messing with him a little bit. We'll see. He'll make one spectacular if you mean by intimate knowledge. You've been to a dick's sporting goods in the last couple weeks and, yeah, you could have it to my knowledge. You would tell everyone knows is a dude. There's two white stripes in the college ball. It's been that way forever. It's not like Oh, damn. What happened to the White Stripes? It buddy, If you ever watch the NFL game, they don't do the white stripe thing in the NFL. So the fact that you came in the league on Goddamn Where those white stripes that it's a different ball world..

"Hey, everybody is going to keep on baseball. This is Game three of the three game series between the Giants and the Rockies here in Colorado. Okay, I don't want to talk about Colorado today. There's something I've been thinking about ever since Saturday when you and I did the game back and in Oracle Park when the Giants are playing the Dodgers and before the game Matches. Um, who's our PR director? He came into the booth and he had a bag and he handed you the bag. And I had some curiosity as to what this what? What The contents of the bag was. And he handed to you and you reached in and you pulled out. Glove. Durkee without away? Yeah, and two cantaloupes. Uh, that would blow across the field at Candlestick. But you pulled out a glove without a web. And then you pulled a glove that had a Web in it, and I looked at you. And you smiled and you told me What I told you was as I had a glove that I used in the minor leagues and in winter ball and my first year in the big leagues. 8, 2000 and 13 76 that I asked Wilson after the year I used it in 1975. If they would refurbish it, and they screwed it up. They totally 100% screwed it up. They made it thicker in the pocket, which for a second baseman, That's no good. So I had to can the glove So it was just really an old beat up love. That meant a lot to me that I couldn't use. But then I had three or four new gloves. You know, we all got two or three new gloves every year and I stockpiled Three or four of them, and I put them up in the attic. And I went up there about three weeks ago, and I found the bag that had the gloves and in one of the gloves. Webs was completely gone. It was a brand new glove, but the Web was gone. Which makes me think that at one point The glove that I was using in the major leagues needed a Web, so I just took a new Web off one of the new gloves. Had Murph replace it. So now I've got this old glove that has never been is it was never going to be used again, and I got this new glove. That it's not new. I mean, it's 40 years old, but it's still brand new. That needed a web, so I put it in the bag. I left Murphy note. Handed it to one of our clubhouse. Guys, they said, gives us give this to Murph and I think you tell it best. Mike what happens when Murph gets a glove that he can fix? Well? Mike Murphy, the legendary Clube for the Giants, and has been here associated with his club since 1958 Loves to repair gloves. It's something that is a passion his when guys would bring in gloves that were ripped or torn, or they needed new lacing. He would sit down and he would giggle and smile the whole time he was doing and he's really the best I've ever seen at it. And he can do it quicker than anybody I've ever seen. So for you to bring a couple of relics from the past into the clubhouse and say, Hey, Murph, can you tighten this up? We have been down the clubhouse, but I know the look in his face when he was putting that thing together. When you pulled it out of the bag. You flipped it over me. It was beautiful. It was absolutely beautiful. The old Web from the old glove was really beat up. I mean, I mean the leather was Really kind, of course and brittle. And if you looked at this glove with besides the Web, I mean, the glove is brand new. If you look at it now, you can tell the difference between the old Web and the new glove. Everything looks exactly the same. It's got a beautiful pocket. And in my only hope is I wish I wish there was a big league or some somewhere that said, You know what I'd like to. I needed little infielders glove and I would dish that thing off to a big leaguer so fast. It's not even funny. Even a minor leaguer for that point. Because these gloves are relics and, uh and I hate when these gloves sit in your office, but that's probably where it's going to end up. Well. It was a relic until Mike Murphy got ahold of it, and he turned it into Pearl screw cap on baseball. Enjoy this great game. Taipan baseball. I couldn't wait to get to the ballpark today, and I'll feel the same way tomorrow. Dwayne.

"You look at the way that this season is unfolded, playing 1 62 after playing 60, their hands are kind of tied here. They have to use their bullpen depth to cover these nine innings to stay competitive to give them a chance. You go back to Monday night at Oracle Park. The Giants had a bullpen game when Alex would tested positive for Covid 19 a Johnny Cueto was sick on the Covid 19. I l for a day. The bullpen game. Jose Alvarez got roughed up at the start, but they cover nine innings against first place Milwaukee Brewers squad allowing just three runs That's bullpen E R a of three point Oh oh, that would lead the major leaks. You look at later this week. Jay Jackson starts on Saturday against the Dodgers. He gets roughed up. But outside of that, everyone until the ninth inning when Sami Long came in, who was the Giants? Last option? They got the job done. Darlene Garcia gave the Giants two and two thirds quality innings Bridge the gap a little bit Zac Little Caleb, Arrogant, had strong innings. John Bravia even got through a scoreless frame. But the Giants were not working at full strength. And tonight they've got their top arms available. They've got a Dominic Leone. They've got a Tyler Rogers and they've got to Jake McGee available, so they are confident they can cover nine innings. But I understand the questions about why not just dig into Triple A and bring a starter up. What about Tyler Beatty? He's on the 60 Day I l He's not eligible to pitch for the remainder of the season. So they just don't have a whole lot of options. The development that they anticipated guys like Shawn Jelly guys like Matt for his be to make during spring training. It's been a little slower. Caleb Killian was the one guy who was kind of pumping through the farm system. Caleb Killian traded in that Kris Bryant deal to the Chicago Cubs. And I think everyone in San Francisco was happy that Chris Bryant is on this cyber Giants team could be playing in October, so That's a little bit behind that decision. I know it doesn't sit well with the law Giants fans, but I do want to try and give fans a perspective of the logic The Giants are using here because I don't think that this decision was ultimately that hard to make..

"Pick. People were really excited about him being the next sort of face of San Francisco Giants baseball. So I think when your team is as good as the Giants are right now, you don't spend as much time thinking about the draft. I think that's probably had the front office wanted pay attention to what's going on on the field Right now. We've got a really good product. We've got some really good young players who are coming through the pipe right now. Pay attention to the futures game as you mentioned Ramos Luciano out there It's going to be exciting. I think next few years for Giants baseball because of some of these prospects that are on their way, and I'm sort of tantalized by the idea of Farrakhan and Scott get an opportunity to bring in some more really good young talent. Last year's draft was a little funky, so I don't know that I'll be dialed into it as far as you know, hanging on every pick or are waiting to see which guy gets elected, But once they're selected, I think we do a little dive into Into what the Giants focus was or what their thought process was with some of these pics, and I think we'll find out that the Giants are pretty good at finding talent like we've seen with Farrakhan has got to this point. Great perspective. Adam Copeland. Thank you so much for joining us throughout the first half here on talking baseball, and we will be chatting with you every weekend. Moving forward, sir. "Season, and I think that I've lost a little bit, you know, having done this for three or four years at that point, and then it's been even more rejuvenated by this 2021 season. Having fans back in the park and having home teams be the ones to hit the walk offs and not the San Diego Padres and Trent Grisham. Doing it against the San Francisco Giants of empty stadiums. Historical park. It's back to what baseball was before. Why I fell in love with the sport. So yeah, I mean, it would be a horrific time trying to explain all that to aliens, but I never put myself in the shoes of someone who's gonna be responsible for that. Yeah, Like counting Crows said. You don't know what you've got til it's gone Carry. That's the There you go. First Counting crows reference the show. Not first, not the last. I'm sure. Something about a parking lot. Sweet Paradise. I think they are. I think they are. But I was always on the team. That belief that that was a myth that the archways had no or minimal effect on the way that the ball was carrying Oracle Park. So just for the record, I never believed that was true. Alex Dickerson a few weeks ago came out and said On the media a bit too big of a deal about it. I wanted to clap when he said that because I felt like I was justified my stance in saying that it had little to no effect. I just never believed that the archways being open 350 ft from home plate was going to impact the carry the ball in a way that was going to completely alter the home run statistics and local park. I just never bought it by the way, not to you. Not that it would happen on June, But I would kill to be like in the in the media room after a game when Alex Dickerson says that and then There's just you in the back. We'll just start clapping. Your like hell. Yeah, Alex, I'm with you, man. There's no way that's what changed and he said it so he disregarded it. You went Yes, they put up a couple of tarp. So we started hitting home runs like he could not believe that that was actually something that was said, But baseball is all with them. Baseball is all about right now trying to make the game. "On baseball. And today it's Game one of a short two game series that the Giants are going to play against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Kip. I want to talk about the Texas Rangers for a minute because Oftentimes a ballpark will defined what the philosophy is for an organization and for the longest time The Texas Rangers are all about hitting. They were just they would try just out hit you and everywhere they went. The minor leagues had small ball parks and when they got to the big leagues at the Old Ballpark in Arlington It was a great place to hit the carry. The right field was ridiculous. And it just was home runs are flying out there left and right. It was just one of those things that just happened and the organization drafted that way they drafted accordingly. They wanted big left handed hitters. They wanted guys that could pull the ball They wanted. Guys get ball. Get the ball in the air. And now Last year during Covid. They opened up their brand new ballpark, and the first thing we found out is it's no longer that offensive of a ballpark. It's now a ballpark that will give it a hitter. A chance. Yeah, this is a completely different A Texas Ranger team that we've ever seen before. Yeah, the Rangers come in, by the way, hitting 2 28. You know this was you know a couple of days ago, but so there around 2 30 overall and that's at the bottom of the American League. Where you're right normally. They would be at the very top just because of how that ballpark played. It's unusual, though, Mike that, uh, the teams do that. When they build a new ballpark because Their fans get used to a certain style of baseball, and that's what they expect when they go to the ballpark is to see offense. And the other Rangers have had their fans have had to switch They've had to think about. Well, what kind of starting pitching do we have? What kind of defense? Are we going to play? Look, I still think it's still going to be pretty fair. Look, that's where they played the World Series. And we saw balls go out there. Yeah, but it just wasn't the same as it was in the old ballpark. In Arlington. So, yeah, it's different. But remember, they also have the D H. So that's going to produce. Well, It's not unprecedented. We've seen this before. In Atlanta. We saw how Turner Field was a ballpark that just favor the pictures. I mean, they kind of build it. Around three guys. Tom Glavine, John Smaltz. Greg Maddux and they've flourished. It was a great place to pitch. But then I mean, after what 20 years, they said. We need a new ballpark, so they went over. They build a new ballpark Atlanta and guess what? It's a bandbox. It's all about hitting. Yeah, it's like they don't even care about pictures. But those three guys aren't there. That's true. And when they built the Rangers ballpark, they didn't have three guys like that. It just jumped right into a pitcher's ballpark. So it's going to be a lot for this franchise. There just got to figure out. How do you want to go about building a winner and being a contender? Do you want to do it with hitting? In a in a bigger Parker. Do you want to just nail it down and do it to National League way and let's go after some some good starting pitching? It's gonna take a while. I just think it's so interesting that the ballparks really do define how you try and construct your team. You know, you think about what the Giants have done at Oracle Park. It's really you know, they had pitching defense. You know, outside of bonds. They really haven't had somebody that lights it up with a big high number in home runs. I mean, three world championships were all encompassed with absolute Knocked down starting pitching and in a terrific bullpen, Uh and that's what the Rangers eventually are going to have to do. But like I said, it's probably gonna take a while for that to happen. It's crooked iPod baseball.

"It's a glorious San Francisco day here on the shores of McCovey Cove at Oracle Park. Great day to be out of door is a great day for a ballgame. I'm John Miller was Gabe Kapler, the skipper the Giants and cap First off. Kevin Gausman makes the start today he had gone on the injured list, however, so has to be activated. What was the move that the Giants made to get him back out there? We put Aaron Sanchez on the aisle to deal with some right bicep tightness that he's been feeling. I don't think it's any secret that he hasn't been at his 100% best so far this season, even though he's been especially competitive guns and bidding outs for us makes a great starts for us. He just hasn't been at his best one of the things that we've noticed. I'm sure you've noticed, too is we haven't had the opportunity to get in deep into games. It's kind of running out of gas a little bit, and so we just wanted to give them an opportunity to get his body. Back to 100% get him 100% healthy on DSI. What you can do for us At that point, we all believe in Aaron Sanchez. We think he's just as competitive as they come, is firing as they come and love having not on the mountain in the dugout. Looking forward it helping him get get back to 100%. Now I know coming into spring training and the beginning of the season. Everybody managers, general managers pitching coaches on an uncharted territory because of the shortness of last season, so nobody pitched more than 60 70 innings tops. In all of baseball. So there was this question about what would be the effect on all those arms trying to get 200 innings out of them, and everybody wanted to be a little bit cautious about that. How's that been playing out so far? Stay with a guy like Kevin Gausman Today. Starter? Yeah, I think it's the conversation is after Kable to Sanchez and Gaza, thinking about Sanchez first. He really has no no foundation over the last couple of years of endings pitch, so this is certainly an understanding and a partnership with Sanchez. That you know we didn't expect it to make 30 starts We expected with drugs and other innings is just totally unreasonable. And I think the same could be true for all of the starting pictures around the baseball around baseball right now, and including Kevin Gausman. We're obviously going to read and react. The objective to the objective signals the velocity How guys, they're going, How deep guys, we're going in the games. What they're what they're armed paddles looked like and then some of the subject of information like Other feeling. Just do they feel fresh and we need to buy them a couple of days here or there, and we've done that for for gods and will continue to kind of monitor closely and make the death. The best decisions for both came in for the Giants, so and it has been. He's had an extra Couple of days, I guess between starts coming into this one today, so I know he's feeling fresh. I know he's feeling strong, and that's what we want from Kevin Gausman when he's feeling his best. You're you're seeing that fastball really explode through the zone. You're seeing the split drop out of his own below the zone. You can future that change up on dropping the slider for strikes and you just feel a different level of confidence when he's at his best on the mountains, keep monitoring and trying to put him in that position. The Giants and the Padres Game two of the series more cap right after this tired.

"Checked into this room. On Friday. I'm looking straight out of the 202 here in Arizona, just a wonderful airport hotel and next to Phoenix, Sky Harbor, Murph. And I'm thinking, OK, this is a relatively deserted quarter. The hotel. There's no real cars in the parking lot near me. I think I'm good. I think I'm in the clear. And I haven't seen anyone in the hallways all weekend. And so I'm thinking, okay, this radio show might go off without a hitch on Monday morning when I get up at 6 A.m. and I'm talking Trevor gots D F a last night around nine o'clock as I get into bed. I hear this noise next door and it's the door. It's the door of the next door neighbor. And so I know that I have been disrupting this kind person sleep for the past hour and agents because you were out in Arizona. You gotta come with the Arizona where an hour ahead. Yeah, that's true. I mean, so I mean, you're not coming up with copy already Hates Kerry. Carly leadoff spot. I don't want to strip the guy next to me here, but No, man I need you come and strong with the Trevor Got D f You know what I mean? So Absolutely. Yeah, I feel bad because you know I've been doing everyone's podcast this weekend signed up for absolutely everything broadcasted with Marty. We got the mosaic started from this hotel room. But 6 A.m.. That's a different beast down here in Arizona, for the guy sitting next to me. So my apologies to everyone at the residents in but this is how we roll on caviar. But I got to live vicariously through your brother because this is usually my whole Aiming devices going off. This would be the week that the Murphy Mac show would be making its 15th annual or 16th annual trip. Down to Scottsdale and we would be at Scottsdale Stadium at this very hour. And we had the pleasure of watching that. That bad boy. That beautiful little that little that little Fenway Wrigley of the Cactus League, You know, Because now all the teams have these big brand new facilities, Your salt rivers, you're talking sticks, etcetera. These things. They're you know, with ample weight rooms and ample parking lots and ample cages, Right? And here's old Scottsdale Stadium it fair to describe. It carries the like the Wrigley Fenway of the of the Cactus League. Without a question. I saw photo the other day in the Arizona Republic, Murph of the Scottsdale Stadium in 1950. I think that there was a team like the Cubs were out here. The Red Sox, one of those teams that actually had regular Fenway, and it was identical. You're in the foot of the kale Back Mountains, the gem of Arizona and it is the most iconic place in the Cactus League and plus Is the only place where you can actually walk and get a good meal after the game or get a good drink after the game. The rest of these places are in surprise. Arizona and surprise You're in the worst place in the whole state was a good call. And in fact, you know for people who know like things. There's old Arizona and there's new Arizona. So I've been the first time I went to Arizona 1988 carry 1988. That's right. I know we're flat out dating ourselves there, so I'm a June I did like you going to a Pac 10 school and working at the school newspaper. My first big trip is with the U. C l, a Men's basketball team and I saw Arizona. Let me just tell you something. Arizona 1988 that Arizona and 2021 my friend. I the last 30 years, Arizona might have changed. You could argue Arizona might have changed more than any other state in the union in the last 30 years Seriously, I mean, I mean, every other state, you know, whatever. Florida, Texas, California, New York I don't know. War Washington, Oregon Arizona 30 years ago, didn't first of all, I'm not even sure that entire freeway complex the 21 Oh, 12. Oh, to whatever the whole loop around didn't exist. No, it didn't. And you're talking to a guy who's just was going there when I was there before that freaking freeway, so I'm not that. All right. Insert joke here. I come back here and I date myself. I mean, when I came down here to go to Arizona State to go to college, I walked up to the building and there was nothing around it and I said okay. Yeah, sure. I'll go here. Great scholarships. I'd signed me up Arizona State Pac 12 School. And now, five years later, I come back after graduating, and there's no fewer than 30 apartment complexes that took over the dirt lots. This place has just transformed. And, you know, spring training went from being a nice thing that you could take your family to two big business. This is like The Nashville of the West with bachelor bachelorette parties. I mean, you've got live music out here all the time. The streets you wouldn't know that Cove in 19 existed in the streets of Arizona. It's just It's a different scene down here. You're talking to a guy. My bachelor party 1997 was Scottsdale Stadium. But you're gonna tell you what if you if you Tried to, you know, joke what you said about big business. I mean, it's awesome, but it's also kind of tragic that if you try to be a family, and we know so many of our listeners have taken their families, their kids or just if they've their grand parents or whatever. I don't know. But to go down there now and get weekend tickets to a Giants game in Scottsdale Stadium way I'm saying pre cove it or even post covert aware. Carry it is you're talking triple digits, man. You're talking like over 100 bucks a ticket now, you know Every year Spring training ST Patrick's Day I get people saying, What can I get? Where? Where the tickets? Can I get Long Sea to the lawn seats at Scottsdale Stadium for ST Patrick's Day might be more expensive than the Giants in a playoff race in September at Oracle Park, Lower box. I'm not. You're not kidding. You're not kidding those birds because we would. That was our trip every year. Me and my buddies. We did it for 20 straight years, and now we try to go around the country, but we would do the lawn. We watch those lot that long culture evolved, you know, used to be the right field lawn. They had a right field burn back in the day. Now there's a big, salty senator Reid applause or whatever that's up there, that that that big building but that lawn ticket on ST Patrick's weekend I mean, honestly, Carrie, wait. 950 north of 150. I think I think post fees You're talking 100. I think that they get you on the website it like 75 for a ticket. And then it's 175 you talking about the Thursday game? You talk about the Thursday I'm talking about the Saturday game. I'm thinking it's over. Giants Dodgers ST Patrick's Day I did that a few years ago when inhaled actually back before I started my writing career it was hailing in Arizona in March over ST Patrick's Day weekend, Jones had to call the game. I think that that probably cost them, you know. Couple $100,000 problem. Larry wasn't too happy about that. But to your point, then everybody who's listening knows when the game ends. You spill out into old town, Scottsdale and you know you have all your choices. The dear departed Italian grotto A and on down, but yeah, it's awesome. And this is usually what we're doing is watching the sun Peek over the make believe the McDowell ranges that we're talking to McDowell range. After all these years, I should know. I think so. Yeah. I mean, I just call it camel back to the woods to the east, watching the sunrise. So once to the east. That's a superstition. Superstition. Loco cheese man. 20 years I never got a right There You go. Anyway, we usually was not yet the pink the pink Easter egg dye sunrise of a Arizona. So by having you on buddy You are bringing me there, so I appreciate I'm watching it right now. See? "Yeah, but he was, you know, Joe, Uh, I mean, Joe was not just a guy who loves the game, Which is, I think why we liked each other so much because we love the game and we would work a game together on a Sunday night and We were together on really. There's probably no place we'd rather be on this Sunday night, then hear the ballpark and work in this ballgame. So that's the one thing we had really in common because, you know he was a black man who came from the inner city and was a great ball player, and I was a white guy who grew up in a word. Who, uh, it's sort of in the suburbs and whatnot. So and was not a great player, even when I was in Little league so, but we did love the game and we we grew up Giants fans and Willie Mays was our all time Idol and favorite guys, you know? So so we had those kinds of things in common, but at the same time I think Joe was in a time where they don't have all the analytics like they do now, but, uh, it would be hard for for Joe. To really Uh, agree with a guy who would say, Well, we have this one figure called war. And, uh, but RB eyes don't matter. They don't factor into war whatsoever. What about how a guy hit with runners described? No, that doesn't that doesn't count. And you know, for a guy who played the game, and even for me, that's true. That's ridiculous. You know, that's that's a good stat for Maybe trying to assess the future of a guy. Should you trade for that guy? Should you said ah, lot of money aside to sign him as a free agent. What's your projection of what he's going to do? Good. But if you don't Out how he hit with runners in scoring position this past year. That's how he actually did. And then they s Oh, I think you have an argument both with Joe and with me. So, uh on I think that some of those statistics these news stats are used in the wrong way. Let me say, but especially when you use like war in terms of who was the M V p this year? Stats that are primarily about how he did this year. But how it projects for the future Because you don't count RB eyes or how he hit was running scrim position because it's not a repeatable, stat. Well, we're not asking them to repeat it. We're asking We'll see the M V p this year. This is what he actually did. He didn't have to repeat it. He already did it. And you're saying it doesn't count? So anyway, that was that was a problem and I think and I think for a lot of people that would argue a Joe about stuff like that. A Ziff. He doesn't know anything about the game, then they're just really exposing themselves that they're the ones who don't really know that much about the game because he was one of the greatest players who ever played. Sparky Anderson didn't have signs for him. The big red machine because he already knew that Joe would know what the place should be. Whether he should try to steal now was a should be a hit and run, whether you know whether he should not steal. He did no need, Sparky said Dab assigned for Jo Jo already knew. The great John Miller. Jonas pop in London Came B R A. M and F M. San Francisco. These sports leader in terms of the game. We had Dave Fleming on yesterday and he said he has optimism that at least spring training will start on time. What is your optimism for the upcoming season in for spring training of the things to start on time? Hey, you ever hear of him? Okay, e assume nightly. Jenna. I would think you guys how you envision it. Yeah, the was my question is even in spring training. I know that maybe the players will show up in Scottsdale. What about the broadcasters? Are we going to Scottsdale? Oh, are we supposed to Broadcast those Cactus League games from the booth that Oracle Park off a TV monitor against because I'm not excited about that, because Number one. Most of those games are not televised down on the Cactus League, and there was talk that they're going toe every team's gonna put on a four camera. Video of of every game so that you would be able to do it. Can you imagine of four camera video for a game? It's not being televised anywhere. What? Trying to follow that in a booth in San Francisco when the game is down in Tempe, or something would be like, And what about the fifth Any When all of a sudden there's seven new players, eight new players in the game? How are we going to know who they are and where they are? And you know, so I was not gonna be that easy and Yes, We like going to spring training that zah great time of the year. The weather is great the it's you know, you get to know the players in a laid back atmosphere. Picking their brains a little bit at the batting cage before the game or in the clubhouse, so but you know again, it's extreme circumstances. So, uh then people are going to be making decisions trying to keep everybody healthy and safe. And so and then there's all sort of circles right back to where you started..

Bowl Games 2019-20: Schedule and Predictions for Top Upcoming Games

"We're talking ball games he's around March here I'm Susan Burke as we want to know what you think about any and all ball games were talking red box ball because the fighting Illini our plane in the red box full talk or text three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred now as we're talking about rob just even going to a big ten game as it is is so much fun so much going on that date you can't see from the TV so to speak and while a bowl game in the bay area sounds like fun to me I I just want everyone to know that I did lobby to get us out of the red box full wasn't quite in the budget maybe next year exactly maybe next year but I I did try and try well it we make the Rose Bowl next year and they they've they've got a Serra send us folks there I think so they were you know like you said a lot of fun things going on and she's there's no shortage of of things that the the fighting line I have been involved in since the touch down the other day in San Francisco I know they've had a lot of fun Brian Barnhart was telling us when he joined us earlier voice of a line I basketball and football for that matter they bend Alcatraz and they've been doing charitable work all sorts of stuff sounds like you're having a children's hospitals yeah and you know I also want to mention that the Dallas Mavericks are taking on the Golden State Warriors tonight why do I say that because the fighting line I will be there they're gonna go enjoy the basketball game tonight as well that's right that's right they are going to go see that game I think you know just from an outsider's point of view I I think that's a great way to take these players minds off of the fact that they've got a huge nationally televised game yes coming up when they take on cal of course again you can catch right here on WLS AMA ninety ends look a whole lot of stuff going on out in the bay area I absolutely I mean first of all it wouldn't be a game without a pep rally right no I hadn't the twenty nine th the first bowl of men open to fans is the pep rally redbox bowl pep rally that's at noon at Justin Herman plaza and Market Street that's a famous street in San Francisco it's free and it's public and a chance for fans to have a great time middle of the later on in the evening at least I'll dare in on on the west coast that is the bowl bash at the bay that again will be open to the public in that it'll be it'll be a good time at some located at oracle park now I'm not sure exactly where that you want that's twenty four Willie Mays plaza that's good for the giants play I have a baseball team so that'll be that'll be fun and and you know the the good times continue to roll on the the following morning well they do that's the game day run club so that happens there actually embarking from embark could there plaza I think I said that correctly and the guys are staying at the Hyatt regency and so they're gonna run on over to the where all the action is happening the run is open to everyone it's four miles so you have to be ambitious to join in that activity well I think it's important to to give a little bit of history of this game date run club it's actually hosted by you'll vie athletic director Josh women he threw this out on social media a while ago didn't know how would go but he's a fat guy he played at the university of Illinois and now he's the athletic director down there in Champaign so sorry I wanted to go for a run on game day he does it every morning prior to the games and the next thing you know as is usually the case with social media this thing catches fire so all the sudden people started running with him so this is the game day run again brought to you by the athletic director Josh women who was just just very very passionate not only about the football team you know which he played on which just anything involving a line I sports he's he's front and center cheering them on so that'll be fun Embarcadero plaza a huge tour stop in San Francisco so that'll be it'll be fun to watch get the people's feedback on on how that goes well right in place with that run and that's a stress reliever you know much like the guys traveling to Alcatraz and going to the game tonight and all of that it's a stress reliever but you can't stay too late at all the pregame activities if you're gonna run for my word to the wise there's also a pre game party looks like I'm the game day at ten AM yeah so that'll be a good time as well and you know as we said that we think that we think that tell you my fans are gonna be out there in full force the they travel well and in that you know nothing like going through a bit of some lean years to make a G. P. people's interest and get out there and support you're fighting a lot of little be fun three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred if you got a prediction on the red box bowl again as the fighting Illini face the California golden bears or you know any of the any of the bowl games still yet to come in fact one E. is under way it is the peach bowl chick fillet people that is between the top rank LSU Tigers and the fourth ranked Oklahoma Sooners and I think Justin said he pretty made a bold prediction he said that Ellis you wearing fifty up on the Sooners I think this game at least is the way it's playing out right now is going to be a little bit closer than predicted Ellis you just scored it's still in the first quarter you're about ready to go up fourteen seven on the Sooners the but the big one tonight in in our minds Susan second ranked Ohio state at thirteen and no big ten this year taking on three Clemson that's going to be a that's gonna be a big match up it's going to be big and like you said a lot of these these games today really too close to call our I I don't even think he the experts know exactly who's gonna win who's gonna who's gonna make it yeah I I just don't you know the so called the so called experts they didn't really do much by Illinois this year with some other point spreads and how they kind of I guess disrespected them I would like to say well Shalom right exactly so yeah again the marquee matchup is going to be is is going to be huge and it just kind of a little bit of a history of claims and and Ohio state the Ohio state they've got they've got a little bit on the line here not just the fact that they want to win and go on to the national championship but the last time they faced constant was back in two thousand sixteen it was new year's eve out in Glendale Arizona Clemson crush them thirty one to nothing in urban Meyer said after the game not only do we embarrass ourselves in Paris the whole state of Ohio well our you got that right yeah and this is one of their first appearances in this poll are college football playoff to have their own my time I'm talking about Oklahoma part yeah I know that's okay yeah no we're do where does did send stuff to keep track of these days but look that's gonna be a good game of the one that's going on right now is Ellis you and Oklahoma hi you know it's just in these teams are so evenly matched we talked about it earlier I don't think it's you know overstating its when you say that I really like the top four teams this year and as they kinda you know get get themselves into that national championship of formation I think it's some we want to go with I think it'll be Ellis you're not really going out on a limb here because they're also even the match I think it'll be Ellis you and climbs in in the championship game just we think you're racing around so somebody thank I'm going with Justin we have I said I know but just since our fabulous producer he is just a few more minutes to go here wanna thank Brian Barnhart he joined us earlier he calls the games for the university of Illinois does football and basketball which by the way you can also hear basketball on WLS AM eight ninety and just really looking forward to the weekend to the game absolutely and we have basketball tomorrow right we do skip all tomorrow tomorrow night and other well Hey we're talking we're we're in need deep in football talking red box full everybody's so excited that we're going bowling we're going bowling for the first time since twenty fourteen and we're all excited about that and you can hear both football and basketball right here on WLS AM eight ninety pregame started to write does yeah warm the fans are going to warm the faithful examines so that's the time to tune in yeah definitely that's definitely the time to tune in and and then we have more sports programming for you and full coverage of your fighting Alaina North Carolina agency there you go that's to start though I for some reason I have to start time mixed up one o'clock so the pre game will be a little bit in advance of that and you know since Brian is out in San Francisco I think a good friend Scott Beatty who join us on the show before you might be doing the call of this game I don't know but I I think you might and we'll get on him because it's so it should be decent game and then you just touching on basketball briefly since we we started talking about it then after this game against North Carolina agency of finding a line I really get into the bulk of the big ten schedule after the first of the year on January second more specifically they take on Michigan state Purdue Wisconsin writers northwestern that's an instance big ten team then they played two again Michigan Minnesota Iowa and then you know then it's obviously it's conference schedule so it'll be interesting to see they they're off to a good start as well they are they absolutely are and how we should thanks god also for his contributions and helping us out during football season yeah yeah well he's he is good and he falls in on a daily basis and really knows the ins and outs of a few of our football and I wanna call amount for predicting that you know you know I was gonna we were all day we were all depressed at one point in the season it was kind of a roller coaster season has we've touched upon and he did he did say the vibe down here is not good he did say that yeah well if is down in champagne right right my special thanks first of all to Justin we only who's helped out with the shows yes we did two during the bye weeks this season and then this one leading into the red box ball again two o'clock pregame on WLS AM eight ninety on Monday as the fighting a line I get set to take on the cal bears twenty one oh six and six cal bears seven five on the season
