"This segment brought to you by Randy Adams incorporated. It's our visit with Mike Appel, CA host of the Pure Hope, Elka Podcast. Who I believe was almost as close to the towers in New York City 20 years ago. Tomorrow is anybody could be Yeah, I was, uh 1.1 Miles Charlie straight across the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the Newport Tower, and we had a front row seat. And I think we've talked about this in the past. My camera actually caught the second plane banking in and I didn't know it until later that day. When I started reviewing the pictures, I was taken Difficult question to answer here. I'm going to ask it anyway. What do you remember most vividly about that day. Uh, The Or even or even in its aftermath. The palpable sense of helplessness. When you realized you couldn't get home. Wow. Yeah, that was tough. I know exactly what you're saying, Uh, tomorrow there will be the president, for example, among many a lot of other things. We know that it's going to be coverage all day everywhere. Presidents going to visit the three sites Shanksville, Pentagon and Ground zero. How much coverage are you able 20 years later to be a participant to participate in because I can't do any that has left a permanent scar on my heart and mind. And, uh, be quite honest. It's difficult enough just doing this morning show. Yeah. I'm not going to watch Any of the televised ceremonies. I I will Revisited personally. And Um, I'll call the people who were with me. Yeah. About 10 of them. But that's it, okay. If my memory serves me correctly. I believe that right after Joe Biden was elected president, either he or his spokes piece? Uh, Jen Psaki told us that there would not be any vaccine mandates. Well, he's flip flopped on that, Has he not? Yeah, Joe said it in December two. Peter Doocy, he said, Uh well, let's let Joe say that's a pretty brief statement. He was asked if There was going to be a vaccine mandate. No, I don't think it should be mandatory. I wouldn't demand to be mandatory. So there wasn't six weeks ago, Gen. Snarky, the press secretary was was asked a similar question. So December of last year, right after the election, and then six weeks ago. That's not the role of the federal government. That is the role that institutions Private sector entities and others may take well golly Bob. Howdy, Things have changed. Give me that phrase again, golly way. Golly Bob! Howdy. Okay, well yesterday under under an executive order, he's directing the Labor department to create a rule. Requiring vaccinations or once a week testing for companies with more than 100 employees. First of all, can he do that? Well, you can create a rule. But the rule is not a law. Congress makes laws There's going to be a battle over this one. And the I r s call small companies, anything over 1000 employees. So you're you're a small company when you're over 1000 employees and then you get a bunch morning or medium sized So this would be micro companies. I guess if it's 100 or more, uh, it's a really curious thing. There's going to be a great legal debate over this. The lawyers are going to make out like thieves. Over all the challenges. Joe Biden promised us he was going to unite the country. Remember? That was part of his big deal. Right? Well, he's uniting the Republicans. At least the GOP has more than well. We're close to two dozen governors who are now signing onto a suit. That's going to be filed against the administration to say you can't do this. Uh, I'm curious, though, Charlie last night if you watch the speech as I did, I'm pretty sure you did. Um, the president exempted the post office and this morning, The Washington Post is saying, Well, maybe he didn't because there was a huge outcry after 660,000. Postal workers were told The mandates don't apply to you and oddly enough that massive union supporter Joe Biden, and they didn't want a mandate and they got that And now there's a question about whether or not that was given. So there's going to be some interesting legal wrangling inside the Democratic Party on that today. Appreciate the visit, as always, my friend. You have yourself a safe day. "Points higher. That's a 3 10, said. 36 41. The NASDAQ composite index 91 points higher. That is up about three quarters of a percent with 12,187. And along with some pressure from the Opelika OPEC, Plus right now we have oil that is lower. This is, uh, West Texas intermediate crude right now. That is falling down. 52 cents of 45 19, the international benchmark Brent of 11 cents, and 47 91. We check the markets for you every 15 minutes during the trade today, right here on Bloomberg Radio. John Tucker on that issue. Bloomberg Business Flash Bonnie and Paul John Tucker. Thank you so much. We appreciate that, Vanni. You know if we can bring ourselves back to the pre pandemic days, Brexit was one of the big big issues for global Wall Street. It seemed taken case people bad diapers, Paul, I don't Yes, exactly Right. And now it seems to be a little bit on the back burner of these last 8 to 9 months. But right now the U K and the U. They're in the final days of some real Really important trade talk discussions. Let's get the latest. We can do that with Ed Evans Bloomberg Brexit editor. Thanks so much for joining us here, help us just bring us up to date on where we are. Let's help us refocus on Brexit give us a sense of where we are and what the next few days and weeks will both will bring. Short of not a huge amount further forward that we had were in March or earlier this year, basically 2000 and trying to get a get a trade deal by the end of the year. That's when the post Brexit transition period expires without a trade deal, but leaves you Paris and closers get re imposed and businesses and consumers face all sorts of costs. An extra disruptions of both sides trying to get close to zero quota zero terroristic. The problem is that they've been stuck on three real areas for six months now, fishing level competitive playing field. This is basically about government, subsidizing business on government or have any agreement will be enforced. And really those two sides have dug in on that prisoners resisted. Any attempt to curb what it called sovereignty on Europe, on the other hand, wants to have continued access to police fishing waters getting used fishing boats catch a very significant part of the fish number of fish in British waters. We're getting down to the point that they need to reach it. We're going through the deadline making to reach a deal by the end of the year if it's to be implemented in time on Gwen, now back on to talk, the last round of talked London. To try and get loaded on decision both sides going into that round, of course, warning differences that could still scuttle the trade deal here who has the leverage this time around it because it really seems like it moved to Europe after the last disappointment. Yeah. It's not entirely straightforward is that if you get this time really has less years. What they're negotiating about is a is a prospective, can't you? You can't be very clear that it doesn't necessarily need one. On the E, but of course, it Well, Sounds like you might have hunger. Yeah, exactly. But that's a great question. Those things we lost Ed, But, Vonnie, it's It just seems one of the questions I have is your question who has leverage here and be Is the timing Is that how hard a date is that your end for this agreement? Well, I think it's pretty hard in this case, but I also think that it is in both sides. Best interest to have a deal. It's not like the you once the UK to leave without you either. Did trade is all important to the you and it does a lot of trade with the United Kingdom's so it would be better. But at the same time, there's been so much saber rattling on the British side, including David Frost tweeting. That a deal is still possible, even though it is late and I will continue to talk until it's clear that it isn't as in a deal isn't possible, but still looking for the EU to fully respect UK sovereignty. That's a little availed. Sort of complaint that perhaps Britain isn't getting all that it wants. Yeah, Exactly. And I was kind of surprised. You know, the last several weeks is this Aziz talk to dragged on that fishing has become one of the issues. I hadn't heard that fire a couple of years always. And I mean, even from the beginning of the EEC fishing was huge. Because how do you divide up waters, you know, In the face is called just over there. But this has always been You know the thing with Britain fishing, not just in the you know in Europe, but but water is more broadly and you know, Falkland Islands, for example, went to war over that. Yeah, exactly. And Evans is back with us Brexit editor from the UK so that one of things we were just talking about Bonnie and I were talking about is timing. How hard of a date is this year and for getting an agreement? The year. The year and deadline is basically fixed in stone that was agreed with withdrawal agreement. So that is that it? I will be very surprised if it did change what has certainly changed Bean. How long both sides need to ratify on implement an agreement Now throughout the process, the EU has said that it needs time. To do that. It's got to translate any agreement into the used official languages and get it through the European Parliament. Now that process, I think, initially was thought to take 11 weeks or so. Mysteriously is we've got closer and time has run out that that time has shrunk on Dwyer now really looking to a deadline? I think next week to get a deal that the European Parliament would obviously want to approve it. Before Christmas, but it's quite possible that they end up approving it as late as December 28 so that gives us out sign just how? How close we're getting now to the wire with a lot of these trade deals, and we have the politicians that air the face off the deal on the face of the negotiations. But really, it's everybody behind the scenes that does the work and Presumably, these people have never stopped working on deals and trying to find language and trying to find various permutations of what's allowable. Are we hearing anything back panel wise about how this is going? What I said he could have been on the British side. You've got David Frost on the European side got Michelle Vanya and you've got to both of them obviously have said they want to go on talking to the very end here with a deal could be done now. You'd expect negotiators to say that it's their job to do that. I think Frost is much closer to Johnson in terms of Being taking a line on sovereignty, and that's to come a very clearly today where he talked about Yes, you can go deal that's got to reflect but its sovereignty and that means making choices on things like fish access to the single market. And so on. Bonnie's got about two more interesting dynamic because he's got he's got 27 member states that does introduce a degree of complication on his side. Had Evans. Thanks so much for joining us. We really appreciate your thoughts here as Brexit once again begins.

"Thing. I'm Steve Cave and nasty night in Cleveland. What you said, understand what party is that is simply aren't the first presidential debates touched off a stream of condemnation on social media? Former Trump Chief of staff Reince Priebus, now a CBS news analyst, I think the name calling and of Biden saying Shut up and racist and liar and clown. I don't think served anyone well, and I think it happened on both sides. Mr Trump gave as good as he got in a CBS News count indicates he interrupted Biden, at least 73. Time's Democratic strategist, Joel Pain is a CBS News contributor. This was American carnage, and I think what I'm hearing from people is they're just ready to get off the roller coaster and they know who is at the front of the roller coaster was causing all of it. And it's Donald Trump. Mr. Trump's campaigning today in Minnesota. Biden is in Ohio. Kentucky's attorney general has asked for a delay in the release of Grand Jury recordings and Briana Taylor case to remove information that could compromise witnesses. "Chris Plante show and it's Michael Palka spitting in from my friend Chris Plante today happy to be here, thrilled to be here, and I had to give a shout out to the Real Housewives of the flagship affiliate W. They're the ones who gave me the hip tip that Senator John Kennedy had used our our phrase here this week are category of the woke Olympics. And it happened twice in a five minute period last night, And because of the miracle of technology, I was able to go backwards on my IPhone and listen to it and record the audio and here, Senator Kennedy talkingabout the woke Olympics and you can make your nominations will be going over some of the nominations. Throughout the show. If you see something being done, of course, the Redskins are now perennially nominated because they're they're name changing activities. There are others that are out there that are going to be part of the woke Olympics and some of you have already nominated. But here is Senator Kennedy talking about it and also adding in even more wisdom. He's such a smart dude and puts it in language. All of us can understand. I think it's great that we're never in the country where the two Congress women have the right to say what they want, but we also have the right to disagree with him. I mean, there. I believe in free enterprise there Marxist. I believe in equal opportunity they believe in government guaranteed equal outcome. They don't believe in the second Amendment. I believe that love is the answer, but also on a handgun. Justin gets they hate cots just because their cause I don't They think most Americans are racist. I don't I'm proud of the fact that we passed 20 civil rights bills and amendments. It's a fundamental disagreement. And I don't think they're Bill will go very far. But, as I said, it's a serious effort to compete in the woke Olympics. The World Olympics has now gone National on television on Fox News last night. Thank you, Senator Kennedy. We appreciate it. Maybe we'll put your head on the metal. Maybe your head will be on top of the woke Olympics. Go gold medal today. We don't really have a medal. It exist in my brain. Many stories that we have to get to and and you're calls us well. Many, many stories. I was working on cutting up some old Don lemon audio last night when Tucker Carlson basically played the same clip, so we'll get to. That was kind of interesting. This Tom Friedman story out of The New York Times. The New York Times is trying to cover its tracks because of these stupid story. The stupid story was it almost two weeks ago two weeks ago tomorrow they came out with this fever dream that is unsubstantiated. As matter of fact, it's been debunked that Russia Has been offering bounties to the Taliban to kill American troops debunked And I'll get to it because the general in Centcom has also shot it down. Yes, I'm using military analogies. But But The New York Times now has a new story from opinion writer Tom Friedman, who says Joe Biden should not Debate Donald Trump, unless these two conditions are met, so we'll get into that We have a couple of calls. I don't want to miss out on some of the calls that so much great audio today. There is so much good bad Biden Audio today I almost feel like I should. I should just stop and say Thank you Prayer to God for giving us the great bad Biden Audio today, But let's check in with a couple of you on the phones. Robert in Maryland. Welcome to the Chris Plante Show. Good morning. You know, your Your last caller. He was hey, was mistaken. We are on the rescue helmet was brought to Washington D. C by Vince Lombardi with Vince Lombardi cane from Green Bay Packers back in the sixties. That's where that comes from that that that wasn't under Joe Gibbs. So he's mistaking on that. But, you know, we're talking about the People in the cities and the mayor's blob. Eo Baltimore, Chicago. You got to remember these people voted for this type of government. That's what they voted for. They've been doing it for 50 years or longer in all these cities. So you know the old saying, Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it. The people in New York have no complaint. That's what they asked for. Get bulletproof vest. That's all I can say to you. That's a good point. And by the way, New York City the height of Pettiness today, as de Blasio is permitting the start of painting black lives matter on Fifth Avenue. Right in front of Trump Tower. Now you tell me who has Trump Derangement syndrome. Who is living rent free in whose head right now, it sure feels like Donald Trump is living rent free and build the Blasio's head as we speak. I'm just looking at the name am I mispronouncing it. Welcome to the Chris Blanche. No, man. You got it just right. Hey, I'd like this. I'd like to see Dan Snyder hold a press conference. And what I'd like for him to say is Under no circumstances will I change the name of the Redskins? If you want the name change the team value right now. $3.2 billion. I will sell it to you for $4 billion you can do whatever you want. Yeah, that that sounds good and that that is the way our capitalist system is meant to work, However, the people that pay a whole bunch of money and cover a lot of his operating cause, Federal Express have said. You need to change the name or we're not going to be paying that money and nobody else apparently has stepped up and said will cover it. If you lose the money, and then the report that some of the minority owners have said you need to change the name or we are going to sell our interest. All of this is what's driving it because it was not sentiment. You know, we go back years and there's been a call to change it. So it's all money, money money. Driven and Yeah, go ahead of the minority. The minority owners, then are currently in the lead for the gold medal in the woke Olympics. You know that's a great nomination. Hoke. I'm giving you credit for that. The minority owners, I'm rightness down minority owners. Woke Olympics nominees. We have another nomination. I'll read a little bit later. The Woakes hoke nominates for awoke the minority interests very well down, sir. Thank you for your help. We appreciate his space checking in with Oscar in Maryland. Oscar Welcome to the Chris Blanche. Thank you. Because I obviously need a little bit of help. Having been educated in the Montgomery County schools. I can't quite figure this man if we're letting 25 positions disappear from the police. How is that saving $8 million to the math I used that's $320,000 per position. The cops get that much money. Don't think so. Help me with the math. I well, they might be counting. Here's where I'm going to go with this Oscar, because The salary is one thing, and then they might be factoring in long term pension benefits and contributions that must be made because if you hire an officer And you anticipate 20 to 25 years. There is a long term pension contribution, which has to be factored into what they call the unfunded liabilities. You can look at our national debt and are unfunded liabilities and where we're way over. What we should be right now. States like California, Illinois are prime examples of ticking time bombs in the financial world. But that may be it. But you're you're not ignorant. We should ask those questions. "You for joining us with this in Washington DC Hey Paul welcome the reference section Michael what's up me and my wife for getting a little worried about our long planned so currently were looking to get out that within the next year year and a half and we about ninety five basically we're getting worried that if we and I would say a democratic Opelika was born to collected in twenty twenty we miss out in the student loan forgiveness bail out simply we wouldn't have wasted a lot of money but the thing I would think that this is another anti communist and we should just continue paying off for that that's basically the question is if we search for her to making the minimum payments in kind of hope that something like this happens or should be discontinued telling ourselves out and then push on base at three four well the way you do critical thinking on a flow chart is you look at percentage probabilities and the percentage probability the next thing and percent probability the next thing which gets you down to what percent probability that actual then is so I would start with you have to get Elizabeth Warren elected percent probability okay okay about as likely right now as nothing happened not a chance okay my opinion but people said that about trump to and he's the president so who knows you know it's part anything's possible in today's climate who knew but she's a fringe player all the way way on the left and those of us out here in the fruited plain not a chance okay I mean she could get elected it could happen there could be enough extreme lefties to put her in there it's possible she's brilliant I've got to do somethings weather over the years and I really think a lot of her as a person by the way just as an aside I'm not just traction but I don't agree with their very often but she's very very smart and very very articulate so she's she can be a fun person to be having the election cycle for sure because she's quick and she's tough so I'd be fun anyway aside from that once she gets elected she does not get to decide about student loan forgiveness as the president you realize that okay I would have thought that would be no what's known as an act of Congress and you know around places like Tennessee when we say something so difficult it's not gonna happen we go well that's like an act of Congress I'm saying ever heard that phrase use that way it's very difficult to sell them happen so let's say a percentage of her getting elected times percentage of them actually passing this while you're still alive you pay off your student loans due don't wait on them to fix your life you're going to be dead operating that make any sense yeah I thought about when we we thought it over we were like are we know what we're just to continue doing it because the chances of being elected or somebody else and then getting it through Congress exactly right if it gets through Congress yeah and we're like alright we're gonna return piled onto the interest was knocking out in an industry has discovered being president doesn't mean you can get stuff the Congress exactly right he's looking at pollution she's going not a I mean he's just lately stop these calls I mean the stuff you can get done is is just gone to me I'm sorry yeah it's a process the checks and balances in our governmental system pretty much grounds progress to a halt according to your hearing he's doing some just got decent discussion of this by the way is that people spend more time in Washington not you but the politicians spend more time in Washington trying to get reelected than they do actually getting things done consequently almost nothing actually gets done shall I really I'm pretty cynical can you tell I would not wait on them I would picture on life that's what I would do Michael's in Los Angeles Hey Michael how are you my god I'm doing good Dave are you doing better than I deserve what's up a question for you I got heard about ninety days for a car dealership to build the commercial truck say they haven't had a her manager for about twenty years so that the the bigger than that I have a background in trucks I've been fine trust about six years however I'm really really nervous this time like it really really excited about this position either I'm gonna take the crown build it at the same time it's like really really scared that I'm gonna fail and I have a back door open just in case a failed I can go back to another commercial truck dealership leads one to get some advice on what you have is that the state because I mean I'm really in control of the thing is I'm really really nervous I've been here ninety days or times that I'm really excited this time so I'm just doubt thinking of going to fail and edge or not what advice you would give me to to build this department interesting make sure that your new employer and you adjust your expectations that this is going to be very hard and it's gonna take awhile they have zero presence in your market nine twenty three king years and no one in fleet buying thinks of this dealership you're starting from ground zero it's almost as if you started a new dealership yeah yeah I am aware that in a in a I think the great thing about this dealership business been around for many many years it's very well known in the community John Maddox spent a community and I and I noticed it traction because in the past two weeks I've got more quotes that I've done in the past ninety days I've built an inventory excited of trucks and in this area that I laughed a contract cut to certain contractors that are trained by the my doctor stopping by an enquiring about it can you give me some help but at the same time I'm really nervous well it's gonna take twice as long it's going to cost twice as much and you're not the exception and those are the three rules of business okay just take give yourself some patients your sales guy you even soldier self yeah I did I thought I thought they were really impressed me yeah and then I don't know I mean yourself into it and then you got all of them into it and I'm telling you to go lower expectations in your own brain and lower expectations with them and let's let's under promise considerably and then have the fun of over delivering action and that's also going to alleviate your personal fear if you under promise to yourself but if you're like I'm gonna give this ninety days of it and move I'm going back to the other with then you've wasted your time it's going to take you a year to build a book of business here don't you think I believe so and they're aware of it eighty six tonight guaranteed another ninety days and you have to ask I credit by relatively so don't worry about how long have you been there in ninety days and they told me that they're staying on the ninety day they told me we are aware that this medication hi okay all right probably more than you were okay that's good because yeah I just I think it's it's what you probably in a plum situation because they want this business bad enough that they've gone out and they brought in a superstar to run the thing for them that tells us they're committed right and I got the experience of god knows what he's doing that you but you have the the you know the entrepreneur is the only person that can go from sheer terror to sheer exhilaration and back every twenty four hours right that's what I feel every day yeah that makes you an entrepreneur you're you're starting a new business within a business there that's what I call my wife initiatives and I but I just I mean I I hit the ramp time people in the business owners and stuff like that that the angle from sheer terror tonight tonight today and that's what I'm going through that's a part of the process and that will calm down as your income gets Daddy and as the book of business get steady but right now you just started the thing on the back of them you know only on the wheel just use a metaphor on the back of the pick up right he let down the telegram started a new business right there on the back end on right then you know what if it may give you a lot of empathy for some of the guys are starting something that a crown about trucks from me right now I may help you with your customers but now you're going to great you're gonna be fine it is normal you would be weird if you're playing in the traffic and you weren't scared and your plan the traffic I mean you walk right out the Miller St there's cars going by if you weren't scared that make you strange and so you should be scared I'm not terrified not debilitated not paralyzed but you should be going whoa this is danger I've got to do something to get rid of the danger gonna work like a maniac I gotta make some sales I gotta get some inventory on a lot to attract customers we got to get the word out in the construction community the subs all have to know me.

Michael Opelika Washington ninety days twenty four hours twenty years ninety day six years two weeks
