"And the Kings now sign a big guy like Pierre-Luc Dubois. You guys got a nice young roster coming in. What's expectations like here in Los Angeles, playing hockey, I'm sure there's mixed emotions. They got the Dodgers, they got the Rams. There's a ton of other attention on sports teams here. What's it like being a professional athlete in Los Angeles? Are you getting stopped as you walk down the- Like you said, all the sports teams, there's Hollywood right there, it's not like that. But as far as our expectations, I think everyone here wants to win a championship and that's what everyone has their mind on and certainly myself, I think. That's why I play, I want to win a championship and I don't think anyone in the locker room would say anything different. That's what we got our sights set on and clearly the management signing a big guy like Dubois and the young guys that are in this organization, it shows that they want to win as well. So that's the expectation and that's what we're all pushing for. Who are some of the jokesters in the D room? Who are the guys that are firing clappers above your head, ringing it off the glass that you might have to give a little hack to the back of the knees during practice? Well, Drew Doughty, he's not necessarily ripping them out the head, but he is certainly the jokester in the room. Yeah, any particular moments stand out over your past year that you'd like to share with the audience? I don't know, I don't know anything in particular, but he's just always got a grin on his face, always up to something, always doing something to make the boys laugh and yeah, he's a good guy to have around because no matter what's going on, he's got a smile on his face and he's making guys happy. So he's just one of those jokester types. He's been doing that since his Ontario Hockey League days and he's got a couple less teeth now, but I think that smile is probably what puts a smile on other people's face, right? And it's important to have guys like that in the D room. I know you were reading a book on breath and the importance of that. I think it was Ricky. Oh, I had the name. It was Gracie. Gracie. Gracie, there you go. Have you read James Nestor's book on breath? There you go. Is there a big nasal breather there? I try to be, yeah. I think it's an underutilized tool for everybody, but especially athletes. I kind of had a little bit of a breath coach for a little bit who was teaching me. She's a free diver and she was taking me through exercises and stuff on how to recover a little bit faster and how to essentially get a cardio workout without even standing up, just kind of pushing yourself with your breathing and breath holds and stuff. And I noticed a big difference, not only with endurance and cardio, but it kind of mentally, it kind of calms you down a little bit and it's a good mental reset. So there's all sorts of little tools and those books have been a big help too. The breath book by Hickson Gracie was the first one, was like my introduction to breath work. And I was like, wow, this is pretty crazy. He kind of like based his whole fighting on breathing and it was pretty incredible how far he took it. And so, yeah, I think it's just been a tool that I've learned about. And I think it's probably something that you'll never master. You can't master it, but you can get better at it and use it. And it helps a lot for sure. What other tools are you incorporating? Are you using a cold plunge or are you saunaing or you rocking norm attack or you hyper rice? Are you going full influencer route and go on everything in a while? Are you nasal breathing? Are you putting on mouth tape? I've gone through the mouth tape at night and I feel like it helps, but then I don't know, I kind of like do that in waves. Like if I'm not sleeping great, put mouth tape on it, I find I get a good night's sleep. So that's like something that I have used in the past and kind of, if I feel like I need it, I'll use it.

"Maybe I go to Toronto where my family probably still lives because he was coaching in the Hamilton area a while ago in the Canadian Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League. But the path to the NHL might be a little better for him because of if a coach like, who's the Toronto Maple Leafs coach? Sheldon Keefe. Sheldon Keefe. If he's on the hot seat, then the natural progression is to see if Gruden's the next guy. So, you know, there's ample opportunities for players and coaches to go where they want to and have success because the landscape just seems that much better. It's almost like players as your entry level contract and you see the landscape. Like Matt Benning. I'm just going to take Matt Benning for an example. Northeastern Huskies University, drafted by the Bruins, obviously saw McAvoy and all the freaking talent ahead of him and just said, I don't see a fit for me here. So he went elsewhere to find that NHL time and that NHL consistency. It happens. It's a business. People got to do what's better for themselves as much as what's better for your team. We root for the team. They root for themselves. Yeah, exactly. I wonder about like with you got Keefe somehow still coaching in Toronto, but I wonder who's the GM there now? Retro Living now. Yeah. What does he do? He says, oh, look how talented this roster is. I'll give Keefe one more year so I can see what he does. And I'm just going to cherry pick a guy from the Bruins organization because that's what this team needs is some Bruins culture. So he brings over Gruden and that he might be just thinking, OK, and, you know, next year I'll have, you know, all of those contracts. I don't know what they're going to look like. But he gets rid of Keefe and he brings up a Bruin, right? And that's all I'm going to say to any Leaf fan who talks about any success that happens under him. No success till you bought in on Bruins culture.

Um, I think he was gone before the Bruins picked. Um, I called Meg Danelle, the guy that would become an instant fan favorite in Boston. Um, wisdom is right behind him. Uh, I think he plays that, that game with the molder that never quits high energy. Um, you know, isn't the greatest skater, but he's got some speed and he's got some mobility. He's not afraid to get dirty. Um, what's he listed at six foot one, one 72. So he's got a little bit more size than, than Mac Danelle does. I think in my list, I probably have him higher than, than I should, but I think if he follows the progression his brother did at this, at this level, then, um, you know, I'd be happy with him. I think his brother ended up being a third round pick if I recall correctly, but yeah, I, I love him. I love the way he plays the game. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going to translate. It's got a great shot. His IQ is well above average. Um, his skills, um, I would say slightly above average, but his physicality and that, and you know, that's what Bruins fans want. This is what you're going to get from, uh, uh, Dom, I'm curious and I'm not profiling any players at all, but when you said his, his, his name and his brother's name, are those first nation players? No, no, they're, uh, they're, um, I forget where they're from. Okay. But I just hear African American, African Canadian. So, okay. All right. Very cool. You know, I mean, w w very diverse, you know, the community here. Ah, nice. He's got the flow.

Mark, any any any thoughts on Savard in particular or if, you know, just a rehash of the Bruins are in a good spot with their staff? I think that they're in a good spot for right now, I'm not saying a great spot, but I think that another year of of what we saw last year, you know, the group together and so on would do be beneficial. But if things don't work out next season, it's like really bad. I think besides Monty and John Gruden, I think the staff should be reconstructed a little bit. And, you know, would Mark Savard been a beneficial addition to that staff? I think so, especially on the creativity factor on the power play and and how to transition out of the zone quickly. I think that he would add some some interesting knowledge to the to that factor. But he's also going to be doing it in Calgary as an NHL coach. He leaves the Windsor Spitfires real successful head coach and stint in Windsor in the Ontario Hockey League. And he's going to join Craig Conroy, who's the new GM in Calgary and a former teammate of Savard. So, you know, there's there is a relation there. And I don't know. I mean, yes, Grace, I do agree that there's a lot of stuff that's going on in Calgary and there's a lot of flight risks, especially during the free agent time. You know, Elias Lindholm and and, you know, the defenseman that I can never know a And Toffoli, Tyler who knows what's going to happen with him? "I think we talked about that a couple weeks ago, but he did get traded to a better team. Is he playing with potra, Matthew portrait? Are they no, no, Matthew porch I never got moved. There was a rumor saying that Mark savard from the winter Spitfires was interested in making a move forward. To have portrait and Harris on the fires and I don't know if that move would have knocked out the sweepstakes for Shane Wright, who's also with the Windsor Spitfires right now, but Boston everyone's prospect forward, Brett Harrison, huge night, like you said, 5 points. Pretty much got all his point production in the first half of the game. This is his first career 5 point game. His last four point game came in December 12th, 2021 in a game against the peterborough petes and that was a four to one win and he had two goals to assist four points that night. Last night crushes that with 5 points and just on a tear with Windsor. I mean, he started the year in training for this upcoming campaign and broke his leg and then came back from a broken leg and just got right on to Auschwitz generals team and just really push forward to be a really offensive threat. And then all of a sudden all of a sudden, not too long ago, Mark survived from the Windsor Spitfires, pulls a 6, 6 draft pick trade for Harrison and gets a deal done. So he's with Windsor and just absolutely lighting it up on a very, very good team that could do some damage this year. In the Ontario Hockey League. And I just, I love that connection that I just I got to imagine savard is such a good head coach. I love that he's on a team that can make a deep run in the playoffs because again at any level, junior's AHL NHL, the playoffs are so important and getting that experience. "And when you're 19 years old playing in the National Hockey League, things happen fast. Things are buzzing. The plays are happening with lightning speed, and I was really, really, really pleased. With his positioning as a sentiment on the ice. He was always in the right positions. He used always defensively responsible. Now. Is that going to translate to him being an 80 to 90 point player in this league? We don't know. Um, but to me, it looks like he's going to be more of a 60 60 point player, which is there's nothing wrong with that, because doing cousins might be that guy that funnels into a position where he's shutting down the Austin Matthews. He's shutting down the Sidney Crosby's. He's playing against The elite players on the other team, and he can skate. He can shoot. He's big. He's responsible, and he's got skills up front. So where do you see? And I think this is maybe not What fans one here in Buffalo. We talk about With Danny Gear off the air about how the building was buzzing and his is grandson is was watching games when he was a young kid or his nephew, and the last few years you don't see the building buzzing as much. So where do you see this season? Being a successful season? Are you looking at it just individually? Player to player and see what they're doing. Are you still looking at a collective kind of mark or a goal to set for the team to make this a successful season? Because that's not kid anybody or we're not expecting the Sabres to go in and make the playoffs this year. Number one. They're incredibly tough division because they're going back to the Atlantic Division. So you have temper at Florida. You have Toronto. You have Boston. You have Montreal. Um, Ottawa is better. You have so many good teams. So you're not expecting a playoff, but Where would you set goals? If you were Don Granado and Kevin Adams, would it be individual goal collective go a little bit about what would be your approach. Well, I would be looking at for these guys to play within themselves Play the system in which don Granado is going to identify how they're going to play the game. Okay. That's something that we at home will not know. Okay, but we'll be able to watch games where you're going to see them play proper defense. You're going to see them for check a certain way you're going to see them. Make plays that are skilled hockey plays instead of this dump and chase, you know, I mean, I just looked to see our guys continue to be in games and when I say be in games being games where you're playing against You know, top 10 teams and you don't look like you're out of place. I want to see these guys compete at a high level Be structured but be free because they're young. They're they're talented, and I want to see them understand that they have to compete like this. Each and every night. It's got to be consistent. And if we see that throughout the season that is going to be what I'm watching for, because every single year you move forward. Kevin Adams will identify where the changes need to be. You're going to also have players like an own power who will come in and strengthen our team right away at the age of 20. We will have maybe a Jack Quinn who plays in the minors and gets that opportunity and seizes the opportunity, and maybe he's coming in. At 21 the year after. Maybe it's JJ Peterka. I mean, there's lots there for us to be excited about. Now. It's just have these guys play and have Kevin Adams figure out what's the next move. So what I'm looking at, and maybe it's an unfair comparison. But I look at the Ottawa Senators last year, a team that was supposed to finish 31st that was supposed to go nowhere. And that young group of players that teams tuts law and the Brady could shock and and many more. Thomas Chabot. They took a step forward. Every were fun to watch. They were in games now. They got blown out A couple of times. There was a couple of 71 and ate nothing or whatnot. Uh, but overall when you look at the 82 game season, while 56 last year You thought they were in most games. Then they got blown out and they were competitive and they took a step forward. I think that's my goal. Yes, there's individual goal. But I want to see growth in this team and last but not least, because we're going to have to take a break. We just saw Michael Peca walk by about 20 minutes ago. I think For Jack Quinn. And for many other players that you are a center or winger or even a defenseman is approach and his experience and wealth and knowledge is going to do such a good Be such a good boost for the Rochester Americans this year. I can't wait to see what set apart and and Michael Peca will do with that team and the players that will come out better. Come in. You know, Mike, we we've been around him for years. Um, you know, I I I played against Mike Peca. So as much as you sit there, and we can talk about him when he played in the National Hockey League at the age of 19. I know that he played for the Ottawa 60, seven's of the Ontario Hockey League. We know you know that guy. Well, I know Mike Peca when he was 13. No Mike Peca when he was 12 So I remember going down again. Yes, I played against my whole life. Was he the same way? I don't like to keep you. Did you have to keep? You know, The funny thing is I have a hard time letting things go and as much as mix a really nice guy, and I see him a lot because we live in the same neighborhood and stuff. He I, as much as I love them and respect them. I'll never ever be able to let go. Playing against him. When I was young, he was a super stud like I'm talking studly. He was not a big man. He was insanely fast and physical and skilled and played the game the right way in all all the ways you want him, especially back then and different. It was tough. It was tough. He was. He was the big boy in town and in Toronto. Look at this guy standing by in the camera. I thought you were golfing today, Razor. Razor says he's too good for this golf course, anyway. Um, maybe we'll have razor join us for a couple of minutes after this, because usually we have him on zoom and he has all of his high key six or whatnot. So why not take a break here? We were talking about Michael Peca. Let's not let's not talk about robbery when we come back here on the instigators, wdr 5 15 M S.

"Sneaky Jodi Beyonc at the controls as well and we'll keep the hockey vibes flowing with more of a focus on the upcoming NHL draft. As Steve Cornea knows, the draft analyst is his Twitter handle. Joins us Now on the West. Her hotline, Steve, It's Chris and sale here in Buffalo. Good to talk to you again. How are you? What's up, guys? How you doing today? And fantastic. Um, is it Is it cool to finally I know we're still like a month off schedule here with the with the draft and free agency, But we're getting closer. We're not going to deal with the draft in the winter or the fall or whatever. When? When was last year's draft, Remember, remember, now just sort of blew by in a covid induced haze, I think, but we're returning somewhat to normal. Um, but it's been a challenging year. I would think for teams to really get out and see these prospects even be comfortable with them. How How have you found that part of this job this year? Incredibly difficult, not just because of the travel aspect, but because you had leads that would just shut down entirely. You know you have the entire Ontario Hockey League season cancel that makes up about 30% of the of every draft class, if not more than that. You also had the lack of tournaments, you know, hockey prospect compared to other sports we have anywhere from. I don't know what like 7 to 15 tournaments in a given year. But for all these kids to play it and In Europe and North America, and we only had like one or two. So it was difficult. I think if you talk to scouts, they'll tell you that they would much rather be at the rink than watching the Games on video. There's just certain things that you really can't pick up. On film that you would see if you were there live and up close to the kids, but You've got to give the lead credit for getting it done last year. They had a trip in October something. What was it like? You know, Uh, 16 months after the previous one, and this one was a little bit shorter because of the the start of the seasons already in Europe. They're already ongoing when the last draft happened, so it's been Nothing but ketchup, really, for a lot of us since the season started. So how do you view the top of this draft? There's been a lot a lot written about. You know the quality of this draft and the depth of this draft. Where do you come down? As like an overall as far as draft years go if you're comfortable, even even making that kind of an assessment. Yeah. No, I think I'm pretty comfortable. I've done my research. It's not as I guess, uh, last year as we've seen in the past, we don't have well to start. We didn't have that that singular. Player at the top, right. That consensus number one pick to start the season. You know, we knew in 2000 and 18. Iraqi Stalin was going to be the consensus number one we knew in 19. It is going to be jack use are we doing? 2020 is going to be electoral opera here and you can even keep going further back. This year. We really didn't have that luxury. We thought it was the finished kid out Iraqi and within a month of the season, we realize okay, this is going to be a difficult process to find someone. So you know, within that vacuum, you had a player like going power step in. I think it's safe to say right now he's worthy of being considered the number one overall pick if that's where he goes, But, you know, we don't have a lot of centers in this draft, but not a lot of like elite franchise carrying. Center types, so that hurts it. We didn't have any outstanding performances in adult league play, which is really get from the European kids. A lot of these kids were pretty much stuck in junior the whole season. And those did not play against adults didn't do all that great. And oh, by the way, the World junior championship, which is the I guess, the benchmark prospect event that we have every year you you didn't have a kid go in there and really dominated mapping years had a good performance but was more unlike a Defensive mindset mindset, But, yeah, I'm not too comfortable with calling it a strong draft. But you know there's going to be one or two kids that get drafted late in the first early in the second, they're gonna come out. And be successful NHL players so but you know, it's heavy on defense, not heavy on centers don't have the consensus number one pick for most of season. I think that hurts the drafts reputation. On that note. Steve, are Are we making fans here in buffalo are you know they're natural reaction of getting the number one pick from any was great in a year that it's not a great draft. They finally you know, they win the lottery again. Is it? Is it too much being made of that that, you know, are we? Maybe not counting enough that there are some really high quality players they can still get and maybe making out to be more than it is. No, This is actually a good thing for Sabres fans that even though that this is a weak draft, you always say that we really talking about the overall general depth and maybe the lack of a real future superstar franchise carrying type, But no, you're going to get Borderline star player at the very top of the strap. Whether you're picking 12345. I do like the top 10, maybe top 15. You see some Different listings and rankings based on the various services and the opinions. But no, I think that the state is whether they go for defense. They go for both tending or they go for a vote. They're going to come away. With an excellent prospect, and probably that prospect whoever they take will be the number one prospect in their pool..

"Was at the New England Sports Center, which is a temporary home of the Providence Bruins because the Providence Dunkin Donuts Center is being used as a covert a makeshift hospital. So the in the first. I mean the first goal of the game came from Edwardsburg. Trail marks, he got his first goal from Nick Woolf and Tommy cross. That was the 2nd. At 6:55 and trademarks is a new addition to the Providence Bruins team. He came from the University of Maine is actually best friends with Jeremy swimming. I think they will all yeah. I think they will all him in Eric Shea, I believe all roommates and they do off YouTube channel. I know. Yeah. Well they did until two of them went out. So yeah, it was pretty cool, but they're really close together and so on and and speaking of swimming and walking trail marks. Shout out to the University of Maine Alum and particularly the Gendron family for the loss of read the head coach of the the main black bears passed away on Friday out playing golf. Yeah, that's such a bad such a tough story and read with such a good guy. I didn't know him personally, but I took He wanted to like have an opportunity to get him on the stream and talk to him about Trail marks and swim in but unfortunately that's not going to happen. So thoughts and prayers go out to the Gendron family and the Humane anybody that he touched was just I'm just reading so much about how much of an impactful person he was. So he's going to be a tremendous loss. Yeah, I was super sad. You never want to see that anytime. We lose somebody in the hockey Community whether it has to do with our franchise or not. You hate to see at these like you said earlier than the humans all playing the game we love and we just I just wish there his family the best and you know, it's just unfortunate absolutely. Well said getting back to game in the third period at the 17 minute Mark Brady Lyle who's having a an unbelievable season down at Providence in his rookie year out of the Ontario hockey league with the Owen Sound attack. He gets a power-play goal from Oscar Steen and Cooper is Zack and that wraps it up from the New England Sports Center as the Providence Bruins beat the Bridgeport sound tigers by the score to 2-1. Kyle. Kyle gets his when he's been really good. I'll talk about how good he is. But in the previous two games, he's he's to know but he took a suffering loss yesterday, but he stopped dead six and twenty seven and yeah, it was a pretty decent game and I don't like this. I don't like to schedule because this American Hockey League schedule is so spread out. It's oh, yeah, but basically almost a week later yesterday at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, the Providence Bruins traveled to play the Wolfpack and they lost six to one page was a not a good game. Kyle Kyser was in the net and he gave up all six goals. I felt bad for him. There is a new goaltender. That's I believe signed in Eighty. Oh wow. To be with the team as a backup spagnoli. I think that's his name. I'm not sure I did some research on this guy and I.

"You know what they're doing, And you've seen a lot of the teams in in in Europe. Kind of mimic Mac. What? What the U. S nt D P did And it's funny because You know, And you know this. I was working predominantly in the Ontario Hockey League when the U. S nt D P started And it was funny because you would go to a lot of Canadian Barnes and people would go one of those crazy Americans doing And I think each and every person that has watched the NT D P grow now kind of re can set and said, Wow, this is a great models. What you've seen. Is a lot of teams in Europe, Mac mimic what has been going on with the U. S anti DP And so you've seen the Swiss Do something like that. Slovakia do something like that. You know, Germany kind of have their own thing and to me That's the funniest thing to see. Darren is is watching. You know, these other countries start to develop players. And look, um I saying that a team's gonna go beat Russia or or Canada of us for a gold medal? No, that's highly unlikely. But you know what? The chance that you know one game. Syriza's They could knock off one of those teams. Oh, it's real. That is absolutely positively real. And you know, we we've seen it happen. We've seen them pull some some upsets in that regard. So during your right this is this is a situation where I wish more people, at least on this side of the Detroit River. Knew what a great hockey tournament This is. You know, And the one thing is because if you're looking to watch the stars of tomorrow, this is where you're gonna find him. And this is where you're going to see. You know, I was fortunate enough to Two that I never play for team Canada and like that, But my group or my representatives was the Linda Ross era. And I always remember guy Brad May who.
