As someone who's had no post-secondary education, not a pilot, not an air traffic controller. I would like to say I feel like they made the right choice to turn back. It's a follow up to the Colombian hippo crisis where there are hippos in Colombia and they're not supposed to be there. And they have tended to thrive. They were brought in by someone who was an entrepreneur in the illegal drug trade. And one of the things was wanted to have some hippos, some personal hippo pets after that person's estate was abandoned. The hippos escaped and thrived. And they're not supposed I mean, they're not native to Colombia. They're dangerous. Those things are dangerous. And I believe we mentioned this when we covered the story originally. I'm not sure if you're aware those things are hungry, hungry also. I mean, all the data we have points to the hippos being hungry, hungry. You know what you're like when you're hungry. It's just not good. So the Colombian government has begun their program of having the hippos spayed or neutered. That's kind of the follow up. There's more to it if you want to read it. And then you open the door and the bear eats you. It's some of that is speculation, but some of that is documented fact. Well, now we have a video of a deer doing the same thing. What's the deer going to do? Obviously, the deer wants to get into your kitchen, get into what? Some delicious cabbage and apples. That deer is going to get into your larder and eat your apples. Is that where you keep apples? Did you catch the part earlier in this show where I said I didn't have any formal education, post-secondary education? Pause. I'm looking up larder.

"President Donald Trump in connection with the classified documents case. Today, an indict move is unsealed, charging Donald J. Trump with felony violations of our national security laws, as well as participating in a conspiracy to obstruct justice. Smith said today that no matter who you are, you're subject to the law. We have one set of laws in this country and they apply to everyone. Trump has loudly proclaimed his innocence. He's scheduled to appear in federal court in Miami on Tuesday. Christopher Cruz, CBS News, Washington. Trump faces 37 felony charges. CBS Evening News anchor Nora O 'Donnell describes some of the allegations. This looks like some of the most positive United States information, classified information. And as this indictment alleges that at least on two occasions in 2021, Trump showed these classified documents to others. Correspondent Robert Hosta, this person who served in the U .S. military, was at Trump's side, was effectively, in the view of the special counsel, So his accomplice in this widespread scheme. That's exactly what is happening so use of unauthorized access devices. What does that mean. It is the unauthorised use at any type of access device entity such as a credit or debit card issued to another individual. So as any just said it's kind of like they're quick short pass and football to get them arrest. Get him arrested because he did utilize her debit or credit card to the tune of one thousand dollars apparently on his trip back home at least somewhere. We don't know the specifics yet. But the fbi believes are knows that a obviously he wasn't the owner of the card and she was already deceased at that point..

When i can tell you is that there are more people who would have been bored out of their minds as they not have the ability to connect with these virtual worlds than people who misuse the technology and have gotten addicted to shooting involved with their friends. What's what's your favorite game that you're playing right now. My favorite game right now is probably rocket week. Yes yes okay you are you on. Cbs four. i'm on three. I'm on pc. Okay we'll have to. We have to exchange. My gamertag is oh. It's big ron exchange game. But i'm rusty. I haven't played in a while and i started playing fortnight in during the pandemic and but i mean there's something there's something humiliating about being devastated by like an eleven year old but she were killed by a bunny rabbit who was surfing on a rocket. There be mad about that like it's not it's not serious and you know That's what i really like about those kind of games. It's just that it's a competitive nature and sure. You're just trying to score the ball into the other team's goal and there's a hierarchy system. Steve you wanna explain the hierarchy system. Yes the hierarchy the way the game works like every video game has a ranking system. Where you start at bronze and then you progress to silver and gold and platinum and diamond in the champion and what was. The ranks are changes based on the game. But it's always the same five rank system which basically allows the game to put you up against people assembler skill level so that people who are lower skill level don't get destroyed by the highest levels and feel bad about themselves and then the people at the top. Don't get bored because they don't have a competition. Exactly you know it's funny is i spent so many years getting destroyed in every other game online saying you know what i just wanna play on line anymore until rocky lee comes along. It's like come on ronald you'll play with a bunch of other people who are all as terrible as you are and you'll have put it will be really competitive. 'cause you'll all like all like y'all be terrible in the same way together while like learning the game steve. Clearly i love video games. Video games and i'm guessing a lot of our listeners. Do to what are some things they can do to help. Make gaming more accessible for everyone. Course i'm gonna tell you that. We need donations. You can go to able to gamers dot org. Companies only care about what is being talked about so people aren't talking about how accessibility options are important about how they want to support people with disabilities about how people with disabilities manner in games and they want to see that representations for people that don't look like them than the support goes away the only reason that company's support initiatives for people that are not quote unquote in the mainstream audience is by them figuring out that oh they are in the mainstream audience and they do matter and we can make money off of them. And that's and that's how we get that done by going out twitter. You're going out to instagram talking about this kind of thing. Tweeting at your favorite companies face booking. Scientists have been flying high over the Pacific Ocean into the stratosphere to study weather phenomena called Atmospheric rivers these rivers in the sky can deliver huge amounts of rain and snow to the West Coast and they may be getting more intense. Npr's Nathan join them for a flight. Confession I don't always pay attention to preflight briefings you know the whole insert buckle seatbelt thing. But most flights don't have emergency masks with compressed air pressure you'll need like coordinator returning says because if something goes wrong above forty thousand feet here get sucked out of your lines okay. He's got my full attention heading like just about everyone else on this flight. Works for Noah the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They're wearing smurfs. Blue flight suits with patches that read Hurricane Hunter because these are the folks if light through hurricanes when it's that time of the year this like far over the northeast Pacific Ocean shouldn't be nearly as bumpy because collecting data on atmospheric rivers is a little less invasive instead of flying through the band of moisture will fly over it at about forty one thousand feet just shy of where you can see the curvature of the earth. The weather event we're studying is far below. But let's have the expert on the jet. Explain starting with you know what the heck is an atmospheric river. Yeah sure so. They're basically like a river in the sky. Which is why that name got coins? And Wilson is with the scripts institution of Oceanography. So it's sort of a long narrow corridor of strong Moisture Transport so lasted water vapor and lots of wins mostly at low levels water vapor that starts in the humid tropics and then snakes its way across the ocean until it hits a landmass like a river hitting a damn that collision can be good and that brings much needed water to places like California but it can also be bad. Because when Wilson says lots of water vapor she means lots and atmospheric river on average can transport as much water as a twenty five Mississippi of Earth Atmospheric rivers are to blame for flooding events in California Washington and Oregon just about every year and scientists expect strong ones to increase in frequency with the warming climate similar to hurricanes because warmer air can hold more water hence the need to better understand with heading coordinating over the radio to know engineers at the back of the jet ready. Things to do in Krabi, Thailand
"We are talking about crabby Thailand. It has province in the southwest side of Thailand that has absolutely beautiful beaches says and cliff sides amazing food and more culture than you could possibly want stuffed the tiniest little spot. What is your connection with Krabi? So when my my husband and I sold everything to travel the world fulltime we didn't know much except for the fact that Thailand was cheap. We bought one way tickets to Bangkok Thailand because they were the cheapest for this tickets that we can get from home and we've really wanted something different well. After spending two weeks and Bangkok and realizing that the city life was way too much for us. If you've been to Bangkok you know the little intense in culture shocking. When you're first coming there from the Western world is like your first and traction with Asia so we had heard from some friends about this place? It's called crabby that it's really cool. There's some nice beaches and I grew up in Miami Florida so that was something that was very appealing to me right being right the ocean and seeing islands what we flew down there in what originally originally we thought was going to be just a three day trip and we ended up extending for three consecutive weeks. And now we've been back there four times the last two years ears and one of the places that I'm going to be talking about called railway between them back there seven times in the last two years Including to celebrate our honeymoon. So I'm excited. Yeah congratulations and why should somebody to copy. Somebody should go to crabby because it's so full of culture and it's small still well. It's one of those places that in a place like Thailand where you have places like Pu cut in Pattaya that are coastal and beautiful and rich of culture but stuff full of tourists crabby is almost undiscovered undiscovered enough. It still has people and they're still enough infrastructure to make it a comfortable place to go vacation but it's also a place where you can go and take a boat that it's ten minutes away to rally beach and have this beautiful cove of limestone cliffs and Gorgeous sunsets and feel like you have paradise almost to yourself especially especially when you're traveling there in low season which will talk about. What kind of ten are you gonNA recommend for us so today? I'm going to be talking about a seven day through crabby grabby. Most people only go there for a couple of days. So we're GONNA go really in depth about the beautiful places. We're going to go to some hikes we're going to take you through some islands. Lynne's and some coves that you can go visit and also some local gems that not a lot of people go to their about two hours away and also talking about an absolutely beautifully beautifully untouched national park in Thailand cool. Well let's get started where we're gonNA start going to land in the beautiful province of crabby Thailand and then had stray the onto railay beach for day one so we probably flew in through Bangkok. And we're catching a local Thailand airline to get down here. Yes and usually. They're very very very inexpensive. It'll be about route fifty bucks to fly into crabby and then a six dollar grab ride into the area which is where the main beaches are. There's there's a walking street there but for the first day we're going to go straight to the pier. Where for just three dollars? You can take a ten minute long tail boat to Railay beach. You'RE GONNA land on Railay Beach West us and immediately you are welcomed by these enormous one thousand foot limestone cliffs. That are just so dramatic and they hug the coastline. So the moment you come in. It's almost like the class are giving you a hug of welcome you land on the beach and it's crystal clear water you're walking through and you can already see all all of the traditional long tail boats and listen to time music and then as you're going through the really beach walking street on either side you're going to have vendors trying to serve you pad Thai or Tomko guy which are all really typical dishes of the south and it just overwhelms the census and I know time but I don't know the other one okay. So autom- Kakai is coconut soup dish. And it's made with lemon grass and tomatoes and mushrooms and you can have it with chicken but even just the vegetarian version. It's just the perfect blend of sweet and fresh. It's one of my favorite dishes in south Thailand dimmed that have not been further south than Bangkok. So Oh I don't know that interesting out there. I know I know I. I've been to Thailand. I don't know three or four times now but But have not been to the beaches so one other thing that I wanted to pause while while breaking word that you mentioned taking grabs a we want to have the grab APP on her phone when we get there. And that's the Thailand Thailand. But it's a like Uber absolutely and the Nice thing is and we'll talk about some negotiation skills later on in places where the grab is too far away in order to get to. We use grab as a negotiation strategy as well so we will put in the location. See how much the grab drivers are charging and then use that as a base price negotiate sheet with Tuk Tuk taxis and that works well especially if you're in a hurry or you need to catch a bowl or you have a tour planned out and you don't have time to wait and see if you're grab is going to show up. That's a great method ticket to get around in Thailand as well so we've made it to really of each. Were walking through the Railay beach walking street and then literally like I mentioned. You're just overwhelmed with the southern Thailand. Vibes lives the food. You have monkeys. They have dusky lingers in Thailand. I call him little thieves because they are these fuzzy black monkeys with white circles around their eyes. They almost like raccoons but they are just so sweet they hang and perch on all of the trees above the walking street so literally there may be like three feet above your head dropping leaves on view as their munching on them. And so you're able to walk through and they're called a little thieves so I'm guessing they're so sweet until they take your stuff so actually not those. I call them little thieves. They look like they're wearing a scheme but they do also have a long tail macaques which they call the Thailand Mafia. Those absolutely steal your stuff got got it so anyway when you get to relieve each we have a favorite resort that we stay at. That's called the Railway Putu one resort. It's unreal East which is a more quiet side railway west as we're all all of like the really absurdly expensive five-star hotels brush your teeth for you. If you were to ask on the railway puts a one is a leave. It's a four star hotel but it has an absolutely amazing view of the islands in Thailand like COPE EP and all of the area over there on the west coast. And when you talk about the silence these are these karst mountains fantastic things look like they're out of some sort of special effects for movie. Yes they look like. You're going through Avatar Avatar this world and also something that I didn't realize when it came to cliffs attract bats because you're silvery caves so at nighttime you're sitting on the balcony. You have an infinity pool that looks over the ocean. It's framed by these absurdly enormous limestone cliffs. You're watching the monkeys from your balcony. Play in the the trees and swing from vine to vine and it just doesn't even look real. I told my husband last time that we are on railway west I was like if I had to explain to God or the universe or whatever ever what my paradise would look like it would be railay beach at sunset it now. You talked about having the resort with the infinity pool and so people who haven't met a Thailand. They're thinking you're spending four or five hundred dollars per night or up from there. What are the rates for that kind of place in Thailand? Oh my gosh rush. I think we paid fifty dollars during the beginning of high season for a room with a beautiful view about Johnny and it was private and the bathroom author was gorgeous. It had a Batta that also had a window wall. But it's only one way so people from the pool champion. You could literally be taking a bath and be staring at this. The outside it's crazy all right them. That's what you're going to be doing in the first avenue. Beach checking into that hotel and then as far as things to do on rarely beach it really has something for everybody if you wanted to. Just sit on the beach on railway west which is the most popular one or my personal favorite. which has put on Numb beach? It's a little bit of a walk as maybe like fifteen minutes off of railway west but personally it's just there's less people there. There's an enormous cliffside that turns into okay that you can swim to from that beach and also so one of the more interesting bits about that. Beach is the fact that they have something called penon cave or princess gave. And it's actually a worshiping location Asian for the Princess God of fertility. I think it was Shiva. And fishermen would bring Phallic shape statues and put them in the cave before fishing thing because that was supposed to yield a fruitful fishing expedition. And so literally you walk into this giant cave just Pena statues everywhere. But it's it's all part of the religion and the culture so not meant to be an appropriate. Obviously also on. This is really common common for people to go rock climbing railay beach and that towns I area which is on the same bay is known for having some of the best free climbing cliffs in the world because they are so textured word and so it's a great place to learn. It costs about thirty dollars to go on one of the expeditions to go and try rock climbing for the first time. And you're trying it out on one of the most beautiful full and scenic tropical locations in the world. You mentioned a lot of boats are the boots that are on the beach just fishing boats or are there water sports career as well so not so much water sports if you're looking for things like parasailing and things like that or wake boarding you're not gonNA find that they're not even honestly. I haven't even seen a banana boat. A lot of people do Kayak however and You can rent a kayak for about six dollars an hour and that lets you go and see things like Coda and chicken island which are only about forty five minutes kayaking from the railway West Beach. When you've been about there are some people who are listening? Who are wondering what you're talking about so banana? An anti votes are those. They're literally in the shape of a banana but people kind of straddle them and it'll be like eight people on the back of a boat and it'll drag you and then throw you under the water. It goes really fast.

Commemoration of 'Blade Runner'
"Welcome to the frame. I'm John Horn nearly four decades ago. The Ridley Scott Film Blade runner was released used. The movie is set in Los Angeles in November two thousand nineteen and to commemorate the date micro the arts and entertainment editor at our website site. Elliot's put together an oral history of the nineteen eighty two film. I spoke with Mike about the physical production of the movie and why it's nighttime setting was integral to its filming. Mike began by briefly. recapping the movie. You know it's a fascinating story. A set in twenty one thousand nine Los Angeles the Far Future. Sure and they're trying to hunt down. androids have gone bad. Basically now making blade runner was not an easy process. And if you notice anything about bladerunner owner it's almost always at night. So why is the nighttime look of blade runner central to the story when the big reasons was because they shot and most of it on the back. Lot Of Warner Brothers you know. They had looked at scouting in Chicago and New York. And we're talking about maybe shooting in Hong Kong or Mexico City. Whatever the cities they had in mind but I ended up just because of cost now working outs and so they said we're gonNA shoot this on the back? Lot and Ridley Scott's big idea was well we make night you know you never know what's beyond the edges of this. This shot you especially. They also add that filter of rain in every scene. So that sorta covered up things and you could imagine a bigger world out there than just a few streets on a back lot doc. I WANNA play a clip from Sydney mead. Who is the visual futurist for the movie where he talks about the inspiration and coming up with the design of the city in the film primarily from Chicago Chicago and New York because they're grid cities and New York already had buildings? You know over one thousand feet. Well they embark stayed building and So I thought well well let's add another thousand feet or so so I had this vision of these incredible tall buildings. So he's talking about the kind of the verticality of the city. How how do they end up creating that? Because you can't really build thousand foot tall buildings you know this was before we had huge. CGI level is just models. They were doing specially the famous opening in the movie. Show these smokestacks and that's not really how future Los Angeles turned out. But they created this using small models and look. I think having having that dark shot at night look having the rain covering things up. You never really know this. The seems within and creates an amazing visual a fair and when the film is coming together there's a a lot of conversation about acid rain and pending environmental problems. Obviously the world is a much more dangerous place today owing to climate change so in terms of like the setup for the story it feels like they were really right about the degradation of the planet. And how that would affect the story that they were telling you know. They really were thinking about the environment. It was a different problem though because acid rain. You know it's something that doesn't get talked about in the same way because that isn't the issue we're facing now. We just found ourselves with many any other environmental problems over the years But the talking to the screenwriter Hampton. fancher the thing that really drove him in writing the screenplay was concerned about the environment he really wanted to focus on that That's the reason why you have. That constant rain throughout the film blade runner became very iconic part of that film and It sort of gives a little bit of weight to what you're seeing in this sort of crazy science fiction film. We're talking with Mike Rowe about blade runner and its depiction of Los Angeles in two thousand. Nineteen it's fair to say that the finishing of the movie did not go smoothly. In fact Ridley Scott. The director lost the film and Harrison. Ford was called back back to do what we you and I can agree with a terrible narrations so what happened and why Harrison Ford so bad in the narration and that he gives over the movie you know they were already running over budgets from making the sets on the back lot Su Trying to create this big imagination the Ridley Scott had the thing that really really send them over. The edge was there is potentially going to be a director strike from the directors guild. It never ended up happening but they have the shoot two weeks film in one week so they had to pay overtime and shoe basically twenty four seven so instead the rights of the film. Take me from Ridley. Scott's producer. Bud York and broaden his own screenwriter to write narration. Help explain things and basically dumb it down because he didn't think audiences with get it's so Harrison Ford intentionally tanked the he tried to be as boring and stiff as possible But it didn't work because they ended up making it in the movie that made it to theaters in the movie ended up being kind of a bomb at first and yet a gets a new life. So how did blade runner get. Its Own Redo you know it was a film that really Scott. I think really cared about other people worked on it really cared about The Warner Brothers did a showing of a work print of the movie without the narration. And sort of getting people talking and then about ten years later There was a piece in the La Times were they ended up reaching now then helped spur more exciting movie. Directors cut came out without the narration. Eventually the on Blu Ray had the final cut which are released got came out. and Actually Warner Warner Brothers. Actually pay for extra special effects. Finish up never got done in the original no narration. And it's sort of created this thing that everybody is able to love without the bad parts so maybe blade runner wasn't quite right about androids. Maybe it wasn't quite right about flying cars but looking at it today. What do you think that got right about where we are today? I think they did capture the big city feel. That was going to calm. That wasn't quite there yet you know. They're looking at Asian influences. There's a lot of Japan influence it's in the original picture. you know one thing that I talked to some of the creators about that. They felt they really nailed. Was the difference between the sort of class warfare. Talking about like the Rich folks in this world had left the planets and left behind Poor people behind them and so there was love Considering that you know we have still Some some of these issues that we're facing also some of acknowledges still close I talked with Sid Mead About the androids and he was saying he really thinks that we're in maybe ten years. We're going to have androids like they had them blade runner You know he is giving examples of various robots that are already out there these robots join. Exactly look anthropomorphic. But they can. They can jump over a one meter high barrier in motion land and actually do backflips So you never know we might be right around the corner. And you don't know I could be an Android android doing this interview. I assume you are

Pilot Calls Tower and Receives Instructions That Are All Greek to Him
"Again true pilots stories from the world of generally in this this episode a one seventy two pilot calls tower and receives an instruction. That's completely Greek to him. Of course he is flying in in Greece. This could be interesting. Bring Your Greek dictionary and ride along in say again by Carl Doorman as I entered the down wind leg of the Corfu Greece airport I contacted tower and I did not understand understand a word they said now what to do. It was nineteen eighty four and I was flying from Rhode Island to Israel in one thousand nine hundred sixty exte- Cessna one seventy two with my flight student Aria Rona the trip recently brought us through the beautiful Rhone Valley in France over the Mediterranean NC for three hundred and twenty five nautical miles in instrument conditions and route to Ciampino International Rome's secondary airport as we checked in with Roma approach at nine thousand feet requesting vectors to final at Ciampino. We could hear that the controllers were quite busy we we were assigned to holding pattern at nine thousand feet northeast over the Roma. VR which is adjacent to the Ciampino airport we were preparing to land on runway one four as advised by the Avis. So who do you think were the best air traffic controllers on the entire trip. I can tell you without hesitation. It was the Italians the controllers stepped us down a thousand feet at a time from holding pattern to holding pattern I two eight thousand feet then to seven thousand feet all the way down to one thousand feet and then vectored us to the final approach to runway one four for these controllers were so smooth and so professional as the handled us with kid gloves we switched over to one to zero point five Ciampino Tower and we're cleared to land and then guided to the runway exit where we switched to ground control and taxi to the F. B. over parking we stayed in Rome for two days to see some of the famous historical sites now it was Sunday we were ready to continue our trip the next destination Brindisi on the east coast of Italy just two hundred sixty nautical miles to the southeast we noticed that there was very little air air traffic along the way and at the airport after landing we'd taxi to the FBI to get fuel and we're surprised to find everything was closed at the Brindisi airport. We had forgotten it was Sunday. It did not occur to us that some places at the airport might be closed. We were lucky enough to meet some pilots from the local Brindisi Flying Club. WHO said they could help us? After we told them our plight their club did not usually sell fuel to pilots not members of the club but they graciously made an exception. Thank you Brindisi Flying Club. We then departed from Brindisi to the east one hundred ten nautical miles across another part of the Mediterranean Sea to Corfu an island in Greece also known as Kirk era after listening to the Kirk Avis and contacting Kirk your approach. We were advised to change to frequency one to zero point eight five and contact. Kirk here a tower. We checked in with tower on the downwind leg of runway three five asking for permission to land. I heard a clear response. That sounded to me. Something like Gorky. Mom Bit Blit Loiter. I asked the controller say again his reply. I again sounded similar to Gorky Moment Lipton. Loiter had absolutely no idea what this controller was saying to me. I thought it would be best just to broadcast my intentions and slow and clear English and proceed to runway three five which was a comforting seven thousand seven hundred hundred ninety two feet long as I continue down wind opposite might touchdown point. I again broadcast my intentions receiving again a similar undecipherable reply from the tower. I still understood nothing. I repeated my intentions again. Dan as I turned final received the same response and I landed after taxiing departing. I decided it would be a good idea to visit the tower her see the controller and find out what he said upon entering the tower as the controller began speaking to me here was the same sounding founding voice but now that I could see his lips moving. I had no problem understanding him. I discovered he understood me just fine and that he was telling telling me proceed as requested so much for English being the International Universal Aviation Language Eleven learned not understanding the tower controller is just as bad as lost come stay focused become all fly the airplane and continue your approach broadcasting your intention slowly in clear English look for any light signals from the tower our if no signals land and clear the runway as soon as possible

Do Footballs Fly Farther in Denver?
"Imagine a fine afternoon in Denver the mile high city behind quarterback Peyton Manning's explosive offensive. The Denver Broncos have amassed attended to record today. They're hosting the Tennessee titans squad. That's lost three of its past four games. The titans. Have put up a good fight over the first half hour of game. Play three seconds before. Halftime. The score is Tennessee Twenty-one Denver seventeen. And her Broncos kicker. Matt Prater trotting out to the Denver forty six yard line. He readies himself for the play of his life. A mighty kick. Sends the ball soaring end over end across the field as a nervous crowd holds its breath. And then the place erupts with ease the ball sails through the yellow crossbar in Tennessee's endzone. It's a longest completed field goal in NFL history. A perfectly made sixty four yard drill. A for metric friends. That's about fifty eight meters perhaps emboldened by prayers heroics. The Broncos go on to crush the titans of the second half, thus clinching a playoff berth. The game. I just described took place on December eighth twenty thirteen today. Prater sixty four yards still holds the all-time distance record. Although his accomplishment has never been bested. Jaw-dropping football kicks are nothing. New in the rocky mountains. Three of the five longest field goals that the NFL has ever seen were made in Denver's mile high stadium. Broncos great Jason Elam nailed a sixty three yarder there in one thousand nine hundred eight a feat that was matched by Sebastian Janikowski when his Oakland Raiders came to town thirteen years later, but to hear some sports fans tell it those three kicks should have Asterix attached the official elevation of Colorado's capital is exactly one mile. That's one thousand six hundred nine meters above sea level. No other NFL cities. It's anywhere close to that. He ran the numbers on eight different teams from cities that sit more or less at sea level like the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots that played at least one road game in Denver during the two thousand one or two thousand two seasons. He found that in those two years the visiting kickers from low elevation towns. Enjoyed some great numbers when they went to Denver up in Colorado. There kickoffs traveled seventy point one yards. That's sixty four meters on average back in their respective home fields. The average kickoff distance dropped by seven point three yards. That's six point six meters to understand those numbers will need to talk about air density pretend as I'm sure you want to that you have a jet pack, if you were to take off at sea level and travel through earth's atmosphere in a straight line up the density of the air around you would get lower as your altitude. Creased? This is due to a universal law as the distance between two objects grows the gravitational pull they exert on each other lessons and air molecules are not exempt the pole of earth's gravity is more strongly felt by molecules that are closer to the planet's center at or below sea level, gravitational attraction pacts the molecules tightly together and the weight of the molecules sitting higher up in the atmosphere really bears down on the ones occupying low elevations in consequence the air, it self grows, denser, the closer you get to the surface way up in the mile high city, the Air's only about eighty two percent as dense as it is at sea level a ball kicked skyward in Denver will therefore encounter fewer air molecules than it would in Miami. That's important to note because air molecules create drag drag is a force that pushes against solid bodies as they travel through fluids or gases, a punted or kicked football will run headlong into a steady barrage of air molecules their combined drag will slow it down sometimes dramatic. Early. But remember in ludens, the air molecules are fewer and farther between therefore football's can and often do encounter less drag in Denver Denver's altitude impacts baseball as well.
