"Radio, eight o'clock eastern on a B C. Well, some some comparisons Courtney are being made and that they're on the cover of Madden together. So this is what where this whole thing started, right? The two goats are Tom Brady. And and Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is one Super Bowl won one Super Bowl. He's been he's been to two Um, I think he is undisputable. Leave the quarterback champion of the world Right now. He's not the M V P Kourtney. Isn't it a little young to call a guy like Patrick Mahomes like going into his fifth season that he's the greatest of all time? Yes, I don't know why this is even like an issue. I know it's the off season. I know that we are just scrounging for storylines in the NFL. And, yes, Patrick Mahomes was on first Take the other day in this topic was brought up, but I think he had every chance. To overtake Tom Brady is the goat back in February because the Chiefs loss of Super Bowl that gets put on hold, so that to me is where the buck stops. We want to go to break right now there. You have my answer too early because he had an opportunity back in February in the Super Bowl in Tampa, and the Chiefs lost, but You know, 43 years old Tom Brady will be 44 this season. Patrick Mahomes is you know in his mid twenties, Of course, it's too early. Tom Brady's played a lot more football. He's lived a lot more life He's been in in in the thick of this NFL thing for a lot longer than Patrick Mahomes has been. I think that age and clout and experience plays into that go conversation. Fair enough and and you know, Brady was great this past year it was great in the playoffs, but they won the Super Bowl because the Chiefs didn't have a working offensive line and shat correct dominated the game and my home is was running for his life. Is it fair to say that at this juncture in his career, though, let me let me play Devil's advocate here. Is it fair to say that Mahomes is the best quarterback at this juncture of his career that we have ever seen? At 25 years old. Probably be Tom Brady at 25 years old. That would have been what, uh 2000 and 2 2000 and two So that was when he had one. Third What? One Super Bowl and he wasn't even locked in beyond. Drew. Bledsoe is the starter of his own team when he was when he was Patrick Mahomes age. Correct. And so, yeah, if you want to base it on where each person was whichever point of their career if you want to make 25, considering that's the age that Patrick Mahomes is right now, the the the threshold Then, sure you can say Patrick Mahomes at this point of his career is the goat. He's the goat of all 25 year old quarterbacks ever in history of the game, That's fair. That's what I'm saying. That's what I said. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. I'm not look Do. I think he's going to get seven Super Bowls? No, and we live in a culture right now. Kourtney where everybody just counts the rings fair or unfair. Like why is Michael Michael because he's got six and LeBron's only got four and Larry's only got three. And even though Magics got five, he got to play with Kareem, right. I mean, this is the conversation that we have about athletes all the time, and Brady also holds a lot of the records and there's no quarterback you would rather have in a big game. You know, my homes has fallen on his face in some big games in the past, you know the A F C championship game two years ago. He wasn't great in the Super Bowl that they wanted till the fourth quarter there behind by 10 points, And if Garoppolo could complete a pass to Emmanuel Sanders, he might have zero Super Bowl championships right now, but The Chiefs have been a three year dominant think Patrick Mahomes has never lost a game in September, Courtney in his entire career. He has never lost a game in September, so there's some stuff for him as a 25 year old quarterback. That's remarkable to look at. I think he probably is the best 25 year old quarterback ever my homes as you mentioned, Courtney was on first take Earlier this week and talked about whether it's too early to compare him to Tom Brady. Still early for LeBron and Michael Jordan stuff, but for me, if you're in this league, you're trying to win. You're trying to be the best player. On that football field every single day. Tom's done it for a long time. Many he's won a lot of Super Bowls, and so when you're coming up and you're watching football, you want to go out there and win championships like he's done, and so I'm going to try to do whatever I can to every single year. Put us in position that we can win a lot of championships, hopefully Dorian Moll. I'm Aaron Goldhammer. Courtney Cronin. Um, at what point is comparing my homes to Brady Fair? I think that you have to look at the age factor. So let's wait until he's 30. Because Tom Brady very well may still be playing at that 0.5 years from now, Who knows? I mean, the man is made of steel, so sure. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that it will be 43 now so 48, maybe, um Because at some point there's going to be an inevitable decline with Tom Brady because Father time is undefeated, so well, it is going to decide that, you know, sure, but even Giselle is going to step in and say You can't do this anymore. And and that's that's going to happen at some point, but You want to still come? I don't think the comparisons ever going to be able to happen when Tom Brady still playing right?.
Wentz out of Philadelphia Eagles
"A very interesting. Nfl deal in at the philadelphia eagles have moved on from carson wentz. He's been traded to the colts massive contract as well. That's part of this deal. Is well taken that on when it goes to the colts for at twenty twenty one. Third rounder and twenty two conditional second round pick as i mentioned whence and jared goff the rams quarterback they were one and two in the draft and everybody thought they were all that the next big thing they had some success whence one super bowl now using kind of injury mode because nick foles won the won the super bowl for the eagles. The actual game but wentz was great. All that season and jared goff also went to a super bowl taken on new england and losing in the final so these guys had some success but man did they fall out of favor in a big old hurry both philly and l. a.

"You by Dave Aylor plus guzzle some coffee and you're good to go. It's San Antonio's first news with Charlie Parker. Charlie is in the building. I'm Chris Doolin for Tim Merriman Dave, a lawyer as I mentioned your soundscapes Stylus Charity McCurdy in the 24 hour News Center charity, speaking of Charlie Parker being in the building. February 3rd 2000 to the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Tom Brady's first Super Bowl 19 years ago, Charlie Parker was in the building. For Tom Brady's first Super Bowl. I know that because I was in the building with Charlie in our good friend, the guy who took the radio station there, the guy who was running 1200 W away I at the time, the late great Andrew Ashwood, the gorilla who was a huge fan of yours as well made that happen, so I've gone. I remember in that game people forget. Now the ST Louis Rams were defending Super Bowl champions. They were prohibitive favorites and some kid named Tom Brady, who took over mid season for Drew Bledsoe for the Patriots was an underdog, So I pull for underdogs. So I was pulling for some kid named Tom Brady and the Patriots. So I was I was excited for him to win that one. Then over time. Then the Patriots won again and again, and I got kind of tired of it. And I was like, OK, I've had I've seen this movie before. No, thank you, however, and I alluded to this earlier charity once Tom Brady turned 40. And he said, You know what I'd like to play until I'm 45 when Bill Belichick of the Patriots really wanted to replace him with Jimmy Garoppolo, and then when Tom said, You know what I think I'll take my talents. The Tampa Bay, Florida. I'm kind of I was with him this year I was pulling for the guy and I'm I'm happy. He got the wind last night. Definitely a statement game for Tom Brady. I mean, the fact that he was able to win another championship in his first season away from the Patriots is really saying something and you have to almost wish that Bill Belichick was in the stands somewhere, said the camera could pan to him so you could see You know the expression on his face, But you know you can't help, but he's the guy. I think people love to hate because it's beautiful. He has a beautiful wife, you know, and he keeps winning. Like, you know, he's Teflon. You know, nothing seems to bring him down. Hey, and again as you mentioned as well to go to Tampa Bay, a team that wasn't even in the playoffs last year, a team that generally and I know they won a Super Bowl many years ago, but they generally have been a hapless franchise for him to go there and in year one, turn the thing around and go all the way to the Super Bowl. And when it just absolutely remarkable and all the stats you hear associated with Brady, you know on Lee Player to appear in 10 Super Bowls. I guess no other quarterback has started in more than five. Just a stat after stat. I mean, you can't help but respect the guy. Well, Tom Brady wins the Super Bowl. But will charity McCurdy win flashback coming up? It's flashback. Brought to you by Brown Chevrolet. Lots coming at you. It's San Antonio's first news with Charlie Parker on NewsRadio. 1200. W O A. I.
Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers hold off Green Bay Packers to punch Super Bowl ticket
"In credit George Wallace and now for the field goals already no more field goals. That's right, especially when you're down by a number of points need to score touchdowns. Yeah, Madam Flora's gonna be hearing that for quite some time. Aziz Green Bay falls to Tampa Bay. Of course, Going to the Super Bowl will play at home home team for the first time, and Patrick Holmes, the Kansas City Chiefs going back looking for a chance to repeat how about this guy's Patrick Mahomes was in kindergarten. When Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl time Ray's gonna hear a lot of those things I think over the next couple of weeks as they get set to face off in two weeks in Tampa, Aaron Rodgers, one of the next big question marks for him. He says he doesn't know what's next for him. And for the
Brady a Rare Super Bowl Underdog vs. Chiefs
"Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Underdogs versus Patrick Mahomes in the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl 55 less than two weeks away. This is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes after he threw three touchdown passes at home last night in a 38 to 24, A F C championship game went over the Buffalo Bills of victory. That puts my homes and the Chiefs and the Super Bowl a second straight season for this classic matchup, being able to go up against one, the one of the greatest, Nothing greatest quarterback of all time and his 150th Super Bowl. I mean, it's gonna be a great experience for me. I mean to have a chance to repeat and get to do it against the best. I mean it zapping special and I'm excited for the opportunity. Patrick Mahoney's led the chief's back from mine nothing down in the first quarter against Buffalo to beat the bills by two touchdowns, the largest margin of victory for the defending champions since week eight of the season. It was week 12 when Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 27 24 went over the Buccaneers. Kansas City is favored to beat Tampa Bay and Super Bowl 55 by between three and 3.5 points, which will be the first Super Bowl to get played in the home stadium of one of its participants, thanks to Brady and the Buccaneers, who won three games on the road in this postseason and became the first team seeded fifth to knock out the number one seed in a conference championship game. Box defeated Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 31 to 26 Lambeau Field. Brady, now in his 10th Super Bowl. It's a tough journey to get here to go on the road, and we not know another road playoff game. Is it just a great achievement? And, you know, now home Super Bowl for the first time in NFL history, I think puts a lot of cool things in perspective,
Chiefs opponent preview, AFC Championship Game: Scouting the Bills

If the Bills win, they'll try again for their first Super Bowl win two weeks from today in Tampa. The Bills did win consecutive FL championships in 1964 and 65. I know Morales talked about this on last week's PGP, he has is his his costume ready to go. His is a trio costume part one part of three with his wife and Taylor, four for D. A Oh, he lives in the mix isn't us part of the family, So we're going to cram everybody into my little thumbnail. Kaplan has me we're gonna go. We're gonna like the Patriots and that first Super Bowl. We're going to be introduced as a team, okay? Okay, So you got your costume? I just got mine. Yesterday came in the mail. Very excited about that. Because delivery was a little worried. Could be a little later than I want to became yesterday. So I'm clean. I'm in the clear, very excited about mine. Mr Biology. Do you have your costume or at least know what you're going to be? Oh, yes, I am ready. Okay. All right. So it sounds like you're on point. Yeah. Sounds like we're we're ready to go very in eyes my wife, By the way, it's very funny, because right now I think it watch th I'm not mistaken. You have kabelindo focusing on the chair where bogus you usually sits, unfortunately, not available right now, So let's maybe when he's back on camera what he's going to or if he has his costume, not what he's going to because we're gonna debut. All of those coming up here on the show. On Thursday morning to stick around for the Halloween spooktacular coming up is part of Thursday's Halloween show. So coming up this weekend, the Primetime games for the NFL are just awful. Just absolutely awful. This will end up being the worst week we have. I think in terms of primetime affairs, and recently we've had some really good ones. But on Thursday night football in two days We've got Falcons and Panthers NFC South Showdown. Falcons are one and six. And while the Panthers have probably punched above their weight, their only three and four and my guess is watching Teddy Bridgewater play for a sub 500 team isn't going to blow anybody's hair back so coming up on Thursday night. Falcons and Panthers on Sunday night Football and NFC least match up. We have cowboys eagles. We've seen how dreadful the Cowboys are. They are two and six. The Eagles are 3 to 4 and one so both teams two and five versus two foreign one Shockingly winner actually has First place in the division that Sunday night Football, usually the best game of the weekend. Then Monday night football. Another NFC East team, the Giants. Host the Buccaneers. At least we get Tom Brady there, so morass of those three total stinkers. What is the best of the three stinkers? I think the best is this is weird is going to be Thursday night Football. Only from the standpoint of at least the Falcons. They had these high wind probabilities and collapse. So there's the potential for an exciting game where you see the Falcons fall on their face. Plus, I think it actually is finally interesting. The watch Matt Rhule Teddy Bridgewater in a team that's basically been buried at Sunday at one o'clock, play pretty well for a bad team. So if I have two picks from three awful games, I think that has atleast the most intrigued to me is a street football fan. Interesting because that has no juice for me because it's two non playoff teams. The Panthers are gonna be good enough to actually hold their head high enough to get to nine or 10 wins. I don't see it. Now they do get McCaffrey back, so that's a good thing, but I just don't see them. I think that's too nonplayoff squads. I know the other two games have playoff teams in there, even though the NFC East His cowboys and Eagles won over. Those teams is getting to the playoffs, and I assume it's going to be the Eagles. I also have to admit, I love the train wreck right now, that is the Cowboys. It's one of those. I can't turn away. I was watching itchy. I was watching way too much Cowboys Washington But it was a 20 point game. There's just something that's hard to pull your eyes away from when it's that bed with Cowboys so actually most interested in Sunday football because winner has first place in the NFC East. But here's the problem with Sunday Night football Sunday night football watching these two bed teams of Ben DeNucci after watching a full eight hours of football, I'm telling you, we're all going to hit the second quarter of this game. Go. What are we doing with our lives? Fair? What are we doing alive? Yeah, That's at least the Thursday night Monday night games. There's nothing else that you've been doing all there watching football day. The comparative so you get to be like, okay, I get some football today. We've had football for eight hours before you watch Bend the Nucci play the Eagles. So that's up to me. I think that gives actually least appeal because early we're goingto have Steelers Ravens with one o'clock window that the four o'clock when we're gonna have Niners and Seahawks and saints bears to some juice there. By the time we get to send it out, you're right. We're going to note how bad the football is, but still the Cowboys being a trainwreck is very interesting. So I'm gonna go with them is the most interesting. What is the least interesting out of the three for you? I think that I think that much I eagles Cowboys to me is the least interesting. I think it's more interesting of Golden was playing. I just I can't watch Ben DeNucci play quarterback for the Eagles. After a full day of football. This is going to be the first Sunday night game I might in the second quarter asked my wife what she's watching, it might happen. That is how much I think he's going to be a thinker. Could there be a gardener Menchu, though, Ben DeNucci type of moment where a swashbuckling small school guy know the garden when she was a Pac 12 guy, but Could we have a little bit of maybe a little story live from Benten oot? She start? Well, even offense, that little story. Then we're just going to think the eagle stink again. I still the Eagles and cowboys and get that..

The National Anthem in Sports: What's Next?
"If you got an a time machine four years ago and set it for twenty twenty, your eyes would get wide for all kinds of reasons and the site of full teams superstars kneeling during the anthem with support from their coaches and owners and leaks. That would be one of the most startling. Players coaches. Game officials alike, all taking me in Orlando, our full moment before the game during the national anthem all of the players wearing black lives matter shirts most of them taking a knee including Naperville Central Alum Casey short and team made Julia. Earth's clearly emotions running high for both of them in that moment with a moment of silence here and respect pre-game in support of social justice seventeen different Texas rangers players took a knee during that moment including meadow door Robinson. Torino's NFL is kicking off tonight and whether you cosigned the venue of his protest or not Colin Kaepernick did prove something that both sides of the aisle can agree up. There is no ritual more sacred in American sports than the. Star spangled banner. It would be crazy to underestimate how it makes us feel. Fans as citizens on all kinds of levels, and if you're a musician performing the anthem, I'm testing the microphone check one, two, your the one who channels almost emotions and identities in that pregnant moment. Can you hear that John Batiste is from New Orleans. Say Julia. Grad. Who among many hats leads the band for the late show with Stephen Colbert. His latest take on the national anthem played before the first game of the NBA Restart in Orlando back in July. When players took the court amid questions of how they keep the focus on social justice from inside the bubble. Tonight's presentation of the national anthem has been recorded by musician producer activist and Louisiana Native John Booties. This great to be here. Thank you for having me. So I wanna know what went through your mind when you're contemplating how to perform this particular song at this particular moment. What did it mean to have this opportunity to remotely address this community amid a broader social movement in our country? Asking these questions of how we fit into society and what? Society owes us in what society continues to maintain the status quo have been questions that I've been wrestling with prior to. All of the social unrest that we're seeing. Wrestling with these questions in dealing with the dice, sport influences of black music and really chronicling my own personal experiences, a black man in America and as a musician from the south, and you know this this moment presented itself. And it really felt organic to step into it. The anthem really being this combination, this historical document if you will in our country. There's also there seems to be a flavor of like to my on educated yearly southern rap kind of feeling the beats that you put in there. There's the orchestra sound of drums. There's maybe some Hendrix. So I just want you to clarify what went into your arrangement. Era Pablo you heard a lot. So many strains of the black American experience. Me Bay from the south ahead of bounce being. That is something that I grew up here in all over the streets in New Orleans. I. Picked up the Guitar Midway through with this kind of nod to Jimi. Jimi Hendrix version from. Woodstock The Blues Music which came from sharecroppers and slaves that then evolved into rock and roll and RB. Adding that to the anthem with the classical timpanist and the cello being the counter line to what I was playing on the piano. Gives it this epic quality that I feel? I ask for a deserves. If. They were musicians. What kind of activism would my heroes portray in a moment like this o'hare? And Counter John Lewis. Out Gradually, but we wanted to be free now. mlk My poor little children. Will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of skin but by the content of character, I have a dream. Now, John Is there a particular rendition of the song throughout history that resonates with you. is so many but you have to pick Whitney. You know come on man. Yes. This was at ninety one super bowl at the beginning of the first. Gulf War. In ESPN history of that performance says the NFL wanted Whitney's version sped up and re recorded but. Whitney said No. WIT WITH KNEE HOUSTON. Sings the anthem the way that it should be saw. Law. John I gotta say the Marvin Gaye Nineteen Eighty three NBA all star game anthem that is the one song I have played at a party and people weren't immediately sure what it was, but they were down man it took like maybe ten seconds you realize wait a minute this is the star spangled better I-. Marvins version of the anthem shows you. that. You know. I will culture and tradition to make lemonade. You. Could take something and you could filter it through the black. Experience. And what comes out on other side is just as soulful and is refreshing and as completely dope as anything.

Shannon on Brady says he's not wearing a blazer to the Super Bowl next year
"Tom Already did make it to super bowl. Fifty four but only on the field before kickoff as a member of the NFL one hundred all time team and yesterday Brady posted a picture picture to his instagram story. With a caption. That said I am not wearing a blazer to the super bowl and hexed years so eric where will on radio Tom Brady will be right in New England league. Really definitely. He's not he's not going anywhere. I mean I don't see Robert Kraft letting that happen. Think about this guy has played his whole career in New England his whole career. And you might say that Bill Belichick take wants to get rid of him or they. They don't see eye to eye whatever he does but but the but the owner. That football is Robert Kraft. Robert Kraft loves Tom. Brady and Tom Brady has done so much for for New England for the National Football League. I mean really. I mean you might hate the Patriots. I never like to pay. Even when they didn't have Tom Brady cheating. They were so but anyway He's done he's done so much I just don't see him. I don't go anywhere I really don't I can't I can't picture it. I see he bill belichick leaving before Tom Brady would need I. And that's that's what I would see because I feel like that you know he had a chance to keep Jimmy G.. Bill Belichick did not a chance that he didn't they didn't give him a chance to keep. They got rid of him. And I think that really like this that would have been my chance I I I. I had another dynasty but still the Patriots are a very good football team. This year. They had a great defense. People WanNa best defense. They had a special teams I'm the one that wants I. I got to say Tom Brady. COTTAM S man. I mean big. I mean it's the truth. He got to play play football but he still plays at a high level. They're in a division that they should win. It's not a tough division. They win that division. So they'll be what they were twelve and four this year. They probably two for next year. Eleven and five thirteen thirteen three or something like that so. I don't see Tom Brady going anywhere I I don't see that. I don't believe he plays in New England skip I I don't I can't definitively pinpointed. Plays that. He'll go but I think in order for him he has to go to a place that gives him the best opportunity when the Super Bowl. It's just not about getting out of New England to show you know I I just needed. A change of scenery is about winning Super Bowl. He has to win one coach Belichick First Super Bowl and win. Who is the winner is a simple and ask ask if this was a race between bill belichick and Tom Brady because the days that we're in the same we're having the same discussion? And you have the discussion two or three times next year. WHO's most responsible for the success and so say race the first one to super bowl fifty five to sixty is the winner? And that's what he's GonNa come down to now can he goes. I mean he's looking at it okay. Who has a good outfit? Who has good offensive line? Because he's not mobile like these young quarterback that's up and coming who has never was ause right right early more now that you've got to be forty three that's true who have offensive line wide receivers and a defense so Adams give honestly. I don't see a Peyton. Manning situation paid many got the perfect storm you had. You had a young dicker. You had Julius Thomas No Sean Marino Title Office of line the Wind Got Vasquez from San Diego. You sit and then you bring in a key to leap remember the Denver team albeit with Tim Tebow they had one they won the division. All of a sudden you get to step into a team that won the division in a playoff game and I say okay here we go so now. We're looking at okay. People mentioned the raiders. Daddy make the play the chargers they didn't make the playoffs Chicago. They didn't make the playoff. So all the teams that you know that that sounds reasonable. They didn't make the playoffs. Now you may dimension on Monday. Maybe they said Okay Jimmy you got to go. We're GONNA take Tom Brady for two years. Because we believe at the quarterback position is that where we're that's where we're we're lacking yup. I believe we can get there okay. That would be an ideal situation. I don't see that happening but I just I just think there's been too much blood would bad blood between coach Belichick and talk now. I just give you know. They had the centennial team and coach. Belichick said it was great to just you know shoot. You'll be able to say it with Tom and talk football and they were all took a big picture with all the page format pages but Tom knows he knows you try to get rid of me while are you. Over

"Cheese spam Sunday's Super Bowl win ended a fifty year drought and as a P. that Shelly Adler reports for the team's coach and quarterback it's an emotional rap on the season for Chiefs coach Andy Reid I'd say it's awesome I'm not sure it's completely settled and same thing for the game's MVP quarterback Patrick my homes it's a real to send me a civil championed to know all the hard work he put in every single day has paid off in and being the champ Symbian the chance with your brothers you can never think of that but I mean it it's it's all it's awesome for twenty four year old leading a comeback win to give the chiefs their first Super Bowl win in fifty years they will celebrate with a hometown parade on

An Interview with NFL Legend Jerry Kramer
"I'm speaking to Gerry grammar Jerry is so good to see a happy new year how are you thank you doing I'm doing great been good been bad been in between but I'm happy to be here and I've always enjoyed the our get together in our visits in the history of love the story you told me years ago about going into the sound room and doing an audition and getting a job because you dread instant replay as the at that I'm proud of that I feel good about that I'm proud of that suit your that's why I knew that we were destined become friends but for those who do not know so quickly when I got my first big break in fact I was with tiki barber last week in Dallas and he said to me where did you get your break which gave first break and I said it was a radio station in San Diego but as part of my addition a producer pulled me in and said right now on the spot you will interview Jerry Kramer were calling him at his home do the interview go I Samantha good thing I read that book when I was a kid that was my favorite book it is a good thing so that's great I appreciate the remember that to cure the chiefs or in the Superbowl which brings back memories a Superbowl one when you face them what do you remember about the build up to the first Superbowl we you know we had one a couple three championships prior to that so this wasn't our first rodeo and we really for sure who they were Jimmy we hadn't seen anybody they'd played against that we knew so we had no idea exactly who the team was watching film on like Thursday night and what's the Kansas city play the last game of the game before and two other defensive backs run together and not themselves down and Max McGee or with is set in the back of the room to go play that again run that back run that back so I read it back anyway not not not not not not do the Looney Tunes amazing and widowed when coach some party thing about that well coach was in a room with no I probably would never happened at the time but we you know the first half was kind of a wake up call no we had Buck Buchanan no DJ hall of Johnny Robinson you know we had some wonderful football players out there and we found that out and got serious at halftime and took care of business the second half but they were much better team than we anticipated Jerry Kramer is joining us so Jerry what kind of money we looking at as a bonus for winning that first Superbowl I think the the story about my tickets hi into by and for tickets for some of my nephews they were ten Bucks a piece I crowded but I ordered for tickets from the Packers but they called me last week the Jerry we got four tickets for you there eighteen hundred dollars of youth eight thousand Bucks worth of forty Bucks right and I if the Packers head the bin in the bowl I'd I'd have bought the ticket that was but I'm not going to pay ten thousand fifteen thousand twenty thousand dollars the seek to team that I'm not that fond of for tells him once cost you ten Bucks the I. in my nephews didn't show up they didn't come to the game so I end up given the tickets to for kids who were at the front gate and they were playing the fiddle in or out you guys want to go to the game yeah so I gave the ticket booth for kids and they got to go to the game incredible tenth still ten thousand empty seats in in that first Super Bowl there was an amazement that the media took two buses instead of just one right there were two buses for the media can you imagine the no difference between this and that so what what do you think when you see the difference between this and that did you have any idea back then that fifty three fifty four games later the Superbowl would turn out to be what it is right now yeah may I with trying to buy a football team back in seventy two three four somewhere in there and I had a chance to buy the New Orleans Saints John mecum junior father within bankruptcy and he had to sell the team so I called for five of the Packer general managers and went to see them and they said what the game look like with the for the future look like what the X. economics and how do you what do you think the help and overall health the game and everybody I met said peeking saturation over exposure leveling all Tom Miller our guide in Green Bay said Jerry these tickets have gone from two dollars to five dollars just in the sixties alone I don't know how much more these people could stand so the saints were available for like fourteen million dollars at that time for ten million and we signed the deal we went up to Oklahoma City with a two million dollar check and John junior starts noble and Lawton and cry and carried on they couldn't find the deal he sold it about did about three months later but I was that close to be in a part owner in the New Orleans Saints while mazing Jerry Kramer joining us amazing that close so you know you and I talked in the past about what was like plan that offense of line you and fuzzy were so critical to that famous Packers sweep what was the jury about that play that was so unstoppable of John Madden head of the coaching clinic with coach from Barty and John said he was set up in the back of the room those seats and coach what is spent four hours talking about to sweep in any broke for lunch he came back he talked for more about the sweep hidden jobs that it moved himself down a little closer and figured out that maybe coach Lombardi knew a little bit more needed about football well but it it was a a a a a a a lady that had to have perfection from about seven or eight different spot the tight end who blocked the linebacker had to make sure he took the linebacker the onside cut off the center made had to be done the right tackle had to get the middle linebacker the outside back at the block the tide in or the defensive end and so everybody had to do their job and we practice that play instead of water running wind sprints at the end of the end of the practice we would run sweet and often times in the early days we get it wrong and Mr Lombardi what they run right so would light up rose again and after that first year when we would mess up we'd say run so we'd run it and read it and run it and run it yeah we we gained eight point three yards per carry anything that first three years we ran that play and a lot of it was Ron Kramer who loves Jim Ringo Orge Greg fuzzy and I got the get out of that mess and get outside on some of the smaller players at that time which was out by the way it was wonderful it was wonderful I I leave at three hundred and twenty pounds and go out on one eighty you a plus your time mama conceiving she knows what I'm doing out there in the middle he has no clue what's going on nobody does really well those guys are a big mess in there and out somebody block somebody we don't know exactly who so it was the it was a wonderful play fourth Jerry Kramer join me for a few more moments Jay last spring we heard the news that bart Starr passed away what was your reaction in what was part like as a person birth the bows with bows good as they get yeah I mean he was a quiet guy didn't blow his mouth off much and we didn't know who he was the first to refer to a three years I played with bart I have virtually no memory of it we had like four quarterbacks Lamar McKay and Joe Francis a couple other guys and bart and so he was up and down the ladder we're playing the Chicago Bears one day and bar has a tendency to pinpoint the path underneath and the the back for coming up so close wanting to throw deep I don't care what happened to throw the ball of fire didn't grow it so we have a play and you know the bears of always had great middle linebacker always a but got the single Terry the George the all of me and so bart threw the ball long down the right sideline my defensive tackle turned around and walked in the ball barge watching the ball centers watching the ball everybody's watching the ball that bill George or middle linebacker and bill is common build is run about five yards it hits a bar about with a forearm cuts is lit up into his nose and he said that I'd take care you star you with and so bart is bleeding just profusely down the front of his Jersey and I said bart you better going get sewed up the bleeding like a stuck because he said shut up and get in the huddle I said yes Sir yes Sir after not hearing anything at all from him for a year yeah so he takes us down the field bleeding bad of me or just the th profit run it down to Jersey eight nine players we score go to the sideline the plump him down on the bench put fourteen stitches in his upper lip and he felt alone funny for awhile with lip with really it law but he went back in the game he never missed the play and from that moment on there was any question about bart Starr's courage in his steel in his back in the kind of player who was but he was such a polite and decent and consistent human bearing is just a wonderful

"one super bowl" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"Their first Super Bowl title this past decade beating the patriots with Nick Foles Philly special Philly Philly wanted you Philly Philly in two thousand eighteen it was an incredible moment and whether or not you love the eagles to see the way that Nicole stepped in when Carson Wentz went down to see the way the team played and adjusted and peaked at the right time of course it was against the best team of the last twenty years the New England Patriots Meryl Reese with the final call on the eagles radio network and then last segment I wanna make sure I mentioned that the calls from the Alex vat skin and Washington Capitals moments were on NBC and of course doc Emrick shots being inducted into the sports broadcasting hall of fame all the moments that we can listen back to I think will trigger some incredible memories because you might remember where you were who you're watching with for instance page three F. starting the falcons in the first Super Bowl to go into overtime in two thousand seventeen that also took place in Houston if the only Super Bowl I've ever seen in person and that's the one I saw the all never forget that of course but that could also be a candidate for one of the top sports stories of the decade there a lot of football wanted that my brother said to me I think you have too many football story we're making our nodes for for the show we he helped me we kind of brainstormed a rodent out and check the dates we did that together you're fighting me on Twitter a law radio I love it this tweet comes from Cleveland I believe it's a pic I'm for most memorable moment of the decade mine is a three part trip LBJ meaning lebron leaving cleaver remember that decision that he made was two thousand ten so it's almost the beginning of this past decade in sports we also I lebron returning to Cleveland and then lebron and the Cavaliers winning their first ever NBA championship I know producer Chris went back and found audio do you have the decision the original decision the answer to the question everybody wants to know.
Jerry Jones cryptic about Jason Garrett’s future, says he ‘will be coaching in the NFL next year’
"Listen to the cowboys started the season with high expectations. That is a true statement but now it's a season that has devolved into a race to win the worst division in football. Here we go. That's where we start. Cowboys said at six and six after a disappointing home loss to the bills on Thanksgiving Day and has Dallas prepares to face the bears Thursday night. Jerry Jones continues to answer questions about the future of his head coach Jason Garrett look where we are with our skill set eh look it up toward they are with Ayers and there's nothing to my mind that jumps out of me that we can't be playing well enough to take it to the house Think about there's no exclusive but he's got exclusive skills to get the job so the collectively so you could but they're qualified people WANNA opinion. It'd be coaching Jerry. Jones has been supportive of Jason Garrett. I think it's fair to say that however was an interesting statement with friends like Jerry. Look Coach Ryan. We'll start with eat right in your ear. Yeah I think we should. I think that's a fair assessment. Oh ooh boy. I had my friend Jerry. Jones is not stupid. No right at all. You don't get to the point. He is in life. You don't get be this rich if you're a stupid man man. He's rich enough to not really care like Jerry. Jones knows how the things that he says will be taken. He knows that people on the outside not we'll be listening also people within his organization he understands what a statement like. JC Garrett will be coaching in this league next year. We'll we'll make everybody do. We'll make the people in the building where where where we'll be coaching Jerry coaching. Well he'd be a quarterbacks coach. Well He'd be office coordinator. What you won't see is he will be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys? And that's what matters if you're talking about Jason Garrett and being anywhere which he has done for year in in year out where we wanted him to fire Jason Garrett for being mediocre. He said he's my guy he's my coach. He will be here. I have faith in him. That soon has totally totally changed to love the way. Mike Zimmer coaches football. I don't expect to ever out coach Bill Belichick and if I can't I can't coach Bill Belichick. I expect out coach Adam Gates and not lose to him Jerry. Jones is ready to get rid of dude. Well there's no doubt that the rhetoric and the tone has changed. Now it's interesting. The Point Ryan Makes Jerry Jones. Smart knows what he's saying. You know that was true with physio Elliott as well when he made that Zeke who you know and he said I was kidding. He was kidding but he you know every every job has a morsel of truth he does know what he's saying and he understands stands out it will be portrayed and in this case I think you're right. The unwavering support for Jason Garrett has come to an end actions. Speak Louder than words. So I mean he's given us a lot of words but really the actions he hasn't. He doesn't have a contract going forward next year so he might coach but Jerry say is not going to be here but he thinks appeals kills conflict. It'd be somewhere else to me. You know he the writings on the wall when when the organization says that we have everything you need and you have to want to super bowl or bus. That's all I mean. There's not much talk about. I mean really. It's been laid out there pretty clean and and Jerry feels he's assembled he is the general manager and the owner. He feels he's like these assembled a championship team. And they're not playing like a champion right now. Does that remind you when you go through a break up and the person says you. I don't want to be with you anymore. But the next person is so oh lucky to have you it. Has that same sort of tone like you know. He'll be coaching in the league. Readers don't really probably want him here in Dallas because he has really been inconsistently early on in the season with backing him saying even as Soon as two weeks ago he was saying better things about Jason Garrett and it just seems every time they win he loves them and soon as they start losing or put together a a you know a poor performance immediately changes the tune in he. He likes to keep them on notice. But I think I don't want to speak for you but I think we can all agree that probably the end of the season if they don't make the playoffs this is probably. I'm not even sure I'm not even sure. I think it takes more than a million. It's always going deep is I believe it's always been that for Jason Garrett in this season and this is why he didn't and have a contract going forward but also understand that a huge reason that Jason Garrett is there is because he can deal with this part of coaching for Jerry Jones. And I don't think I you know I think. That's worth sort of underlining not everybody can and coach you but a coach in this league for several teams. It is a different animal when you coach for Jerry Jerry Jones and you have to take the total package. Not Everybody can do that or not and I get. You can't be there have the understand I I'll be honest if I'm there. I would have to have an understanding because it could not go the way it goes right now. Right and Jason Garrett has been able to handle that part I think into function within those stipulations. And so but you know I think I think this this relationship is coming to a close look the head coach. Come the end of the season though in this job is open. Let's let's just say you think there's going to be guys. Turn that Opportunity Down Because of Jerry Jones. I know I don't I don't believe so. But I also understand that. His more successful coaches who have had different personalities also haven't lasted as long as Jason Garrett has been more successful bay one super bowls but also all those people have left a lot earlier. Jerry needs a strong presence like a Jimmy. John's their push back. He needs strong presence for his head coach but he he is not going to have one if he mandates that things go certain way. And that's just a reality. So what he needs. The most he probably repels away. Greatest strength greatest weakness right. We see it so
Patriots trade DE Michael Bennett to Cowboys
"The Dallas cowboys while they are on by this week they don't have a game the cowboys Staying busy on Thursday evening again a little while ago about about an hour ago from the time I'm actually recording this pulling off a trade ESPN's Adam Schefter The Dallas Cowboys trading a twenty twenty one that's right two thousand twenty one seventh round draft pick that could become a sixth round draft pick they're sending that to Patriots in exchange for Michael Bennett. That's right the talented defensive end Michael Bennett who has spent time of course throughout NFL career with the Tampa Bay buccaneers with Seattle Fox's probably our he's most known from obviously it was part of the team and satellite one super bowl forty eight over the Denver broncos He after that spent some time at a cup of coffee the Philadelphia Eagles and then this season was traded actually initially to the New England patriots before getting traded the cowboys about a week before Halloween and so there's a lot unpack or which is why we wanted to get this emergency episode of the podcast and I know that I promised again that we would have an episode of five oh on on Thursday but things Aziz Tony Christie's is a very busy man so our hope is to go out on Friday but enough about that let's talk about Michael Bennett I tweeted that you know if you had any questions or comments about this trade either drop them on that tweets responded them so we'll get to those in a second here are my thoughts I wrote about this at blog boys dot com I had five quick thoughts it was the name of the article if you Wanna get up there and read it for yourself and pull it maybe pull it out while you read it who knows whatever your cup of tea my five quick thoughts and

"I wanna keep talking about Bart star because I mean listen we're. Couple years older than people in the audience, but growing up as we did. I mean. Yeah. This guy was bigger than life. And people don't understand now for his time to throw the ball the way he did as effectively as he did. And people talk about the, the ice bowl and the final the final driving the quarterback sneak and you know, Jerry Kramer, making the block everybody remembers that what they don't remember was the incredible drive took them down the field to get into that position. And he was the one that taught Lombardy in the going for the quarterback sneak to win the game. It was. I think I think it was what was forty nine below wind chill, something like that. I remember seeing the NFL. It was Tacoma's game ever. And he was he was. He wasn't the first Super Bowl, but it's almost like. He was pre Super Bowl era, because one three or four championships before that. And they would be anyone. I mean, he very what very well could have won five straight Super Bowls. I and then when the Super Bowl finally does again and he wins first to, you know, they go from there. It's there's an irony there somewhere. I and I think in this, this won't ever happen again, but it's forgotten about that. He was a quarterback at Alabama. I mean that's not you don't nobody thinks of him as an Alabama quarterback because he was drafted what fifth round way down the list, and he wasn't. He wasn't really good in Alabama. And the interesting thing, Tony, you'll appreciate it. He wanted to go to Kentucky to play for who bear Bryant, but he was dating cherry, they were among gummy Alabama and he decided to take she went to Alabama and he didn't wanna lose her and bear Bryant. Boston opportunity to have another hall of fame quarterback. And then star goes. To play for Vince Lombardi Lombardi saw something in, in Bart star that nobody else saw his his decision making was the best and his arm was good..

"The studio today, we have Austrailia born country artists Morgan Evans, thanks for being here. This is like a rain check because we're supposed to podcast the other day. But but we couldn't it worked out for the both of us 'cause I got to go back to bed too. Go back to bed last time. I saw you you performed at one of our city strong events at the workout of it. That was a long time ago though. It was like two and a half years ago. I was performing in you doing lunges with a glass of wine. Yes. That's exactly. Right. And then I wrapped I think and then you showed me up with your voice incredible. We're good do. Oh, you and I use you sing I'll wrap it's already begun. There you go and you got to grow the Super Bowl, which is so fun. Yeah. Did you have the best time ever? It's pretty crazy. Yeah. Is that your first Super Bowl? What? First podcast to this is my first podcast for a Super Bowl. We went last year as well. So the the people that own Kelsey label also on the Buffalo Bills. Oh what? Yeah. So I guess when you own a football team that you obviously make space for you. Right. And so they invited us along to the game. And as an Australian to be at the Super Bowl like this is the most American thing. That's how I feel even as a Canadian like even with just football in general like the Americans love their football is football thing in Canada. No. I mean, we have CFL the Canadian Football League. Yeah. It is. It's just different rules. A little it's just a little bit different. But like the I mean NFL players make just Schmil liens and CFL players need to get second jobs. It's just not a thing. They're hockey's like the main thing in Canada, national sport. But yeah, but it's so funny because America, I always say oh Americans their football. Like, you just get into a room. And if you haven't met somebody, you know, the conversations going to go to a Hoosier team. What about those exactly where are you from? Well, we aren't going to get along. Because I'm a cowboy down like it's just such a thing here. Do you have a team that you cheer for do? You have to pay for the titans because you live here. I'm a big fan of like supporting your hometown. I always had a hometown football team in Australia, and it actually annoys me when people like support a team that has nothing to do with them. Oh, yeah. Yeah. A kid. I liked them. So now, I support it doesn't make sense to me. That's really funny. That patriotic to where you come from case. So hockey is obviously between Canada and my team is the Edmonton Oilers, and they I don't mean to be rude to them, but they're terrible. And they haven't been good for solo. But people always hang onto like the eighties when they won five Stanley Cups, and like they'll still hang onto that like oh your team's terrible. Yeah. But we won't five soundly cups..

"It's time again for your favorites. I've been quarterbacks. Okay. So I need you to think about me as a person. I know and care very little about football. Okay. So when I was doing the research we like the quarterback throws the ball. Well, it's so did, you know, there's a halfback and fullback. It's like when I was looking for these facts like I don't have a good gauge of what is interesting to a person who cares about football. Let me put it that. Well, my first MAC is about the first Super Bowl. Halftime good nineteen sixty seven the first Super Bowl. I don't think they'd called it the Super Bowl yet anything that took a couple years to come into being, but they had to arching bands and claimed trumpeter and to jetpack pilots. Wow. These hedge impacts. Okay. So let me tell you about this. It was bell labs, which was Bel Air systems at the time. I think was trying to trial a Japec as a military device. Never got there. I don't think was practical men. Right. But they had these prototypes. Which basically was you strapped three tanks onto your back and two of them had hydrogen peroxide and one of them had pressurized liquid nitrogen this sounds so so dangerous, and basically when they were all combined like a bunch of steam let off. And it was like zoomed into the air for like, twenty seconds. Wow. You get up a couple of stories there were these two guys. And it was the AFL the American football league in NFL, which you know, dominant. They each had a suit once that fell Wentz NFL with two contenders in the first Super Bowl and the Japact and that's packed up high and not again at each other. I think they took off from the field and like doesn't blow right wins. And then like twirled rooms like at the flying man landed, and then there was enough safety fun. They released three hundred pigeons and ten thousand balloons. Oh, so that's I would watch that do balloons versus pigeons. I do you think I feel like you'd have to do the pigeons. I. Would hit balloons and right? I'm just wondering why would they not take off with easily dodge all the balloons emerges being? I'm seeing crazy thinking of his I don't know. Although we fell into your trap, which is even jetpack facts instead of quarterbacks which it rhymes to be fair. Yeah. Yeah. I do some more football act quarterbacks quarterback facts. Oh, this good one John Heisman of the Heisman Trophy fame? He basically invented the. Snap. What is called? Basically he was working with a quarterback who was six foot four. And so it was too inefficient for him to pick the football up off the ground. So he invented the center snap as a way to get the ball into his hands. Oh, and that was in like that's pretty good. Hundreds. He also was very weird dude I found this quote from Heisman describing football itself, and he called it a pro late spheroid and.

"Com mike talk more about this this contrast between these teams normally i would think that the talk of experiences a little bit overrated because how much experience can you really get into super bowl but in the patriots case and bella check brady's case the answer is a lot to the extent that if tom brady wanted to name check us elaborately he could get to the line of scrimmage and say me my wife millie has used his wife but go ahead yes so here's here's where it comes into play a look at the first drive of the rams look jared goff and his first couple throws and often a young quarterback and a super bowl situation will be high on his throws because there's so much drennan coursing through them boom he he'll sail it over the head of a receiver brady will not have that and then as we learned in the super bowl a couple years ago against the falcons there's pretty much no deficit so big that brady will not think in the patriots will not think they can come back from and history is on their side so in a match up between two teams where maybe in terms of talent and cutting edge coaching the rams would have the edge there's a reason the patriots are the favourite and experiences that reason yeah well and they let us the experience as opposed to old because you know they don't wanna be reminded injuries and all those things look the first this is the first super bowl in sports gambling was legalized and the american gaming association estimates six billion dollars will be wagered but you're not gonna hear anything about that on the c._b._s. broadcast the network has instituted a policy against talking about gambling on the air but brent musburger the the veteran broadcaster says that sticking their head in the sand they should be talking about gambling your thoughts well i'm all for openness and disclosure of the realities of the world but at the same time it should be noted that brent musburger does work for an outlet called the vegas sports and information network right and his and he has a side business promoting gambling and he's the play by play announcer for the raiders we'll be moving to las vegas and he's moved to las vegas so you know but by the way i'm not saying that brent musburger is only motivated by self interest when he did the games he was notorious or famous for working in slide comments about the point spread but i will just say this about should the networks acknowledge more robin you you have watched the super bowl many years you know there's you know there's gambling on it right what yes like how did you know this if it wasn't mentioned during the game broadcast somehow the word gets out can you don't mike with the thirty six have can you quickly tell us what's that a prophet is something other than who's gonna win a who's gonna lose and you could bet on how many yards or receiver gets how many interceptions tom brady throws or something crazy like how long will gladys knight take to sing the national anthem by the way the over under is i think one forty eight and i gotta tell you i've looked at all the last national anthem you had pink at one fifty three luke bryan for lady gaga two oh nine it's trending over anyone say he does his research mike pesca here now sports analyst thank you so much you're welcome markets surged yesterday after.

Number three, Jerry Rice, a San Francisco hall of Famer has caught eight touchdown passes in the Super Bowl. The second highest is three Mace true or false. And Marshon Lattimore the terrific second year cornerback with the saints is Johnny on the spot with his second interception of the game. And that really is the play of the game. And it ends I mentioned before and James and Andrew and Stephen Philip are I'm going to get to your calls this segment, but real quick I mentioned, the the reason I was talking about the concept of belief, and and part of the segue about it with Eli manning. Here's my point giant fans. I ask you this question. Earlier and allies career and the middle of you realize career. Let's say through two thousand twelve or so. If there were two minutes left in a game. And the giants had the football. Did you have belief that ally manual it's going to bring them back to win? Because I did I believe that and even going back to that first Super Bowl win. If you remember Michael Strahan on the sidelines and NFL films picks up the audio and stray hand when the giants make a stop and the ball goes back to ally in the offense and stray hand is fired up on the sideline, and he and he's firing up his his defensive mate and saying that let's stop them here. And that we're gonna win this game. And he just had their restraint in predicting the score. And and just feeling that that belief he had belief in Eli manning that he was going to find a way to get the ball down the field and score. And. If I ask you now. Do you have belief at the end of a football game that if there's two minutes left, and you I has the ball that the giants? Do you have that same sense of certainty? That I'm not saying it's not possible. I'm not saying he won't bring them back or whatever. I'm just saying you have the same sense of belief that you had earlier in his career because I do not. And. A poll came out this week. I don't know these things are mostly stupid. But I think it was the athletic polled eighty-five defensive players asked about underrated overrated quarterbacks or whatever. And ally was the thing it was the number two overrated quarterback. Now, I don't know take that for what it's worth because I think it was only about ten people voting for him. So it's no statistically significant. Big number there. So I'm not sure how fair that is. But I do think that there isn't the same sense of belief. And that's ok he's just turned thirty eight years old. There's a difference at thirty eight then then vintage prime Super Bowl ally. But anyway belief it's important, and it's especially important compla- off time. Let's go to James my buddy James in Mansfield. What's going on? James? Good evening. How are you doing? Well, James where do you wanna talk about? So you I know as a major jets fan. Correct. You now do you? Appreciate the excellence that we saw from the New England Patriots. Or did you just throw up just a little bit? Listen, I respective on. I gotta admit I every year. I think this is the year that they're going to get picked off and then. Nope. Nope. Nope. I. I thought there were signs of weakness in the regular season that this patriots team that they were maybe on the decline, and you know, that was now I'm not saying they're going to go into Arrowhead and beat the chiefs because winning on the road is different. There's a reason they always get that one season stay at home, so different. But before we ruled them out. They thought that chargers team was maybe the best all around team left in the playoffs. Offense defense special teams all of that. While the problem. Wacked the problem with the chargers big spots. When you think they're going to do to don't I only to have the media talking about sobre has as its big time. He fill if good point the problem is in big spots. He doesn't. He doesn't get it done. He's a big time regular season quarterback. He is not a big time playoff quarterback. And there are times we can say where maybe the chargers were as a team not as good, blah, blah, blah, whatever he brought a very talented on paper football team into New England today, and they got wacked and they're just absolutely embarrassed pants. However, you want to say it they weren't even close and Philip rivers after that first touchdown needed to do more offensively to make it a dual a shootout with Brady and to keep his defense off the field longer. And the game was out of hand by the time. The you know, they got they showed up in garbage time. Yeah. I want to switch topics for a second. I know I'm going to have to answer this question. And this is about engaging. Well. Yeah. I do. I'm I'm not a big. And I'm not the only one, by the way, most people it seems that most people do hate this the case hiring though, I appear to be in the minority. Here's some how my half and forget the five hundred hundred five hundred record the problem. I have is that one of the problems his then. Indeed, general manager team and making recommendations this was the owner making the recommendations as to one problem. I have the second problem. I have is and. Okay. He may be able to go Sam darnold. That's a long Tommaso. I'm skeptical that he's going to be able to change the culture in that locker room because you have guys in there that will play for their white coach. I'll I Leonard Williams. You know? Let's say the rumor is true and they end up hiring Greg Williams as their defensive coordinator. I don't know if you've seen any of the the footage of sideline footage of Greg Williams, and the way he leaves into his guys there. But if that's where they go. I would be surprised if jets defensive players are not playing their tails off for Greg Williams, because if they're not I think that he is absolutely gonna lay into them and take them to task. I just end the problem. I have is that you know, this is a guy that. Didn't get the most out of what he did the first year the first year he takes a team that had been a lousy team the year before and coaches them to the playoffs in his first season and a winning record. And at that point. He had if my if my memory is right? He had Vance Joseph the as his defensive coordinator. And then Vance Joseph goes on to get a head coaching job Joseph can coach he could coach defense. He wasn't able to be a head coach. But but look I understand James. I do you're not thrilled. Most jets fans wanted Mike McCarthy they wanted the ring I get that Adam gays problem number one in Miami. Was that he wasn't just the coach he had personnel power. And I think that's too much for most coaches shouldn't have that. I think it's too much. You should divide that responsibility up and number one. A number two, especially not right for a first time head coach who's thirty seven years old. Now three years later, Adam gays age forty made the mistakes made them in Miami. You hope he's smart enough to learn and reflect and figure out some of those mistakes and not make him again. So they're hiring a guy who has been a head coach before made some of those rookie mistakes who was. The offensive guru hot head coaching name just three years ago that a lot of teams wanted and a guy who has worked with a lot of other good coaches, whether that's Nick Sabin, Mike Martz as was his offensive coordinator when he was a quarterbacks coach or. Watch and learned and coached Peyton Manning. And all of that together. I think. Yeah. When you even Chicago when you think of him as an offensive coordinator there in Chicago. And he. Made Jay Cutler looked better. And then think of the time when mccown was playing for him in Chicago, if my memory serves when when Cutler was hurt and mccown came in and also look great under Adam gays, so. To say that he can't get the most out of quarterbacks. I think they have an offensive minded head coach they have a young head coach they have somebody with an edge in an attitude a competitive head coach who. If they surround him with the right talent and the right coaching staff. I think I I understand jet fans are skeptical. Jet fans are not happy. I think this could move could work out. Very well, Andrew in Stanhope, New Jersey Andrew away in on this one. I do I just mostly want to hit on the giants. But I think sure that you're saying makes sense. And as time goes by unless down on gays, and I think other jet fans are more acceptable, and they're listening. You know, they agree with what you said. And I wanna say with the jets you think it could turn out to be one of the mistakes like where they did not draft Dan Marino, and they drafted Kenny O'Brien who is very good quarterback made the Pro Bowl. Of course, Marino one of the great. So is it possible McCarthy he might be go on when Super Bowl with another team? You know, I'm worried about that. I wouldn't worry so much about that. What was your giants point? Well, the caller he said that the giants haven't been good for twenty cents twenty eleven now. Yeah, they went to the play-offs a couple of years. Yeah. They were eleven and five and Eli was the best player Beckham and shepherd drop those short passes. But it's like what francesa says they have to build that only the offense of mine, but the defensive line they had talk OT stray hand. And now, they only have the one pass rusher Bernie. But with what you said with Eli I felt the same like, you don't have the confidence in the fourth quarter. But he never could do things with his legs. So like you need you need to good offensive line. He has to have time. He's definitely. They say that he has to have time. And I hear you on that end. Look, I know I'm just picking on picking out the probably single best throw and play of his entire career. But he didn't have a ton of time to throw to Mario Manningham in the Super Bowl when Bill Belichick famously wasn't going to let the giants other star receivers beat him that day and instead. Ill. I went to manning him with that miraculous throw and catch on to the sideline down the field. And he you know, he got hit in the shops. And he used to make those throws in those plays and had belief. You thought he was somehow going to do it that day you believed it, I don't have the same feeling these days. All right. Steve Phillips, Ed, I see. "So I do think his legacy and making it easier for people to argue on his behalf just not just for the hall of fame. But in general would be greatly served by getting some especially a signature win over a team like the patriots and Brady and FOX Merle so true that there's a lack of that signature. Oh my God. That's the that's the moment. Philip rivers. I mean for somebody. That's a lot of comebacks and his played really. Well, when behind in games, we don't look at it and say, oh, that's the finding peace. You know, maybe this could be a big step towards that. Now, he's not the only quarterback that obviously some conversation will come out of. And this sounds crazy. But we were talking about it is we've put in there. Show together. And you know, drew Brees has won one Super Bowl. And obviously what is accomplished in the regular season makes them mature fire hall of Famer in the minds of many. But getting a second Super Bowl is pretty significant for whatever his legacy will be in the all time great conversation as well. I mean, if he can take the saints to a second Super Bowl went on top of everything he's already done. I think it does volt him higher in the conversation. When we look at it, you know, for sports talk radio enthusiasts in ten years on who are the best players of all time another Super Bowl will put him higher on that list. Absolutely. Because this is a guy who absolutely has hall of fame numbers, including the most career passing yards. Most curric- completions most consecutive games with a touchdown pass. This is a guy who's done enough at a high level for as long as he has to not really be a conversation to me. But if you're trying to figure out where he fits it. Among those of his contemporaries, the fact that he hasn't won an MVP is always gonna stand out. And it seemed like this would be his year and. Up comes Patrick Mahomes right to steal his thunder with fifty touchdowns. I don't think he's going to win it this year unless there's some sentimentality coming into play, but you've got this opportunity, and you lose it to have an MVP season. Which would check off a box where people can't say that never at any time in your career where you the best at your position, right? As so far. That's the argument people make on another Super Bowl if he doesn't get 'em VP, which sure do a lot towards reinforcing where he stands compared to the Brady's and the rest of the guys around him right now. And it also be a different level of conversation around Sean Payton, obviously, but when you think about Brees, particularly, and you think about everything that we associate that first Super Bowl with what was going on in New Orleans at the time and recovery it was such a huge part of what the city was about. It was this special moment, I feel like without taking anything away from the team in that moment. The conversation is so much about the rest of New Orleans. I think winning another Super Bowl also lets the conversation lies squarely at the feet of debris in there. Absolutely. Right. And he was the MVP of that Super Bowl. But it was about the city this one could be about him. Well, and I will be interested to see how the MVP thinks shakes out because there's a lot of sentiment for drew Brees. But I think you're right. You know, Patrick Mahomes has played worthy of it and should be that guy this year. So yet another year my mind have no MVP for breeze, but a Super Bowl win takes. I is far more important than any of that in the conversation of where he will eventually fall in legacy. We're site for all of the action coming up over the course of the weekend we've gotten into a bunch of it. But straight ahead chargers. Patriots on Sunday more on what this game as for Philip rivers and also for L A. We'll talk about it next paint and Fitz on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Welcome to Spain..
