Use Alexa to Set Reminders for your To Do List

"Have you ever had one of those mornings where you wake up and you are just your mind is preoccupied with all the things that you need to do? And suddenly it can help to write those things down and get them on to a to do list. Well, here's an idea for you. You can use Lexie to take some of that. Some of that stuff off your mind off your plate. Basically use the remind me feature if you say Lexi remind me to send an email to my boss at ten a.m. she will do that. And the key thing here is you can actually schedule out your to do list by using the reminders and specifying times. Lexi remind me to phone my dad at one p.m., et cetera and you can set that all up in the morning as you're getting ready and then Lexie will give you those reminders as the day

"Felons from being released from prison on no cash bail. We have a lot of things on the agenda. And unfortunately we can't do any of them. As long as the Democrats have fled the state and fled the duty they were elected to do Were you at all surprised that This proposed legislation for those Democrats that left was the bridge too far that they concluded they needed to break quorum on Well, I have to say I'm kind of confused because when SP seven, which was the bill on election integrity in the regular session, the two main items the Democrats disagreed with was the Sunday one PM voting. And also the ability to overturn elections. That's not on house Bill three right now, Um and you know, at the end of the day being elected to the Texas House, it's about making public policy. And part of that job is policy disagreements. So when we have these policy disagreements, we don't just get to run away. That's not what our constituents put us in office to do to run away when we disagree. We need to show up for work and get the job done. And by the way, they're still getting paid in Washington, D C right now both their salary and their per diem, which is a daily stipend, even though they're not at work. Although technically none of you would get paid starting September 1st, or at least none of your staff would right because the governor vetoed the the payment for the legislative state legislative branch in the upcoming budget. Well, everybody is going to get paid as long as the state representatives in Washington, D. C. Show up for work and come back to work and you know they're not going to be arrested. The only thing that the call of the House does. Representative Blue has been in the chamber for a long time. He's very familiar with the House rules. All the call of the house does is compelled them to come back to the House chamber and get to work and that's it. And, you know, tell me another job where someone gets to grab cases of beer..

Texas Democrats Leave State House in Dramatic Fashion Over New Voting Bill

"There's a new Texas law. Coward jump, Democrats decided to walk out in the Texas Texas statehouse. Laws basically about cleaning up elections. Leaves up to two weeks of early voting, but it eliminates things that aren't in. The Texas state law like Drive by voting, which is a recipe for disaster. So of course, the Democrats will come out with its the new gym cry. I am alone this other crap. Well see, unlike Democrats and liberals were actually about conserving free and fair elections because that's what conservatism is about conserving the best parts of America free elections that are easy to vote in an extremely hard to cheat, and that's the whole free and fair part. Texas. They're not about that. I mean, she's me. The Texans are about that and the Wall Street Journal objects to it. The Wall Street Journal wants them to dump a feature of the bill. That prevents voting before one PM on one of the days off two weeks of early voting. Because that day is on a Sunday And they're saying well, minority voters could perceive this is an attack on them because they have souls to the polls. Why are we playing into this? It is. That is nonsense. There's two weeks off early voting, I assure you minority voters in Texas are very smart. Would argue it's racist to hint to. Otherwise they can figure out how to vote, folks. I promise you

COTAXfinity Recap, Busch Wins

"Nascar xfinity series race recap from circuit of the americas over the weekend. Rain made this one interesting for sure. But kyle busch dominated. He led thirty five of the forty six lap event. Kyle busch spanks the field with an eleven second lead coming to the checkered flag. In his ninety eight th career win in this series I think we had a really good piece. Just overall talking with dinger kind of felt like drive off was probably our biggest thing that we excelled that today. Just being able to keep the rear tires on the car longer being able to get the gas pedal down to make a away longer. Instead of sitting there modulating the gas and kind of playing with it and wasting time to get down that was the biggest thing almoner behind me. He was the closest that could keep up with me for about two laps. But i was always in front of him when we were close to each other. So i didn't I didn't really see how well he was through the ss or You know through the slow section stadium section over there to see if that's if he can make ground on me there keep up with me there or whatever so Yeah that's probably about about it all right. "Is darlington throwback weekend where you're going to see paint schemes or vinyl wrap schemes honestly from many eras of nascar racing. The place is called the lady in black the track too tough to tame and drivers race each other instead of the race track. They will most certainly earn a darlington stripe on the side of their car. it's race number twelve. We've had ten different winter so far in eleven races. On a one point three six mile oval the cup races two hundred ninety three laps or four hundred point two miles stage. One is ninety laps stage to ninety five laps. final stage wing it at one eight. They ran three races at darlington last year. And they were one by kevin harvick's denny hamlin and kevin harvick yet again. All three series are in action cup series sunday three thirty pm eastern on f s one xfinity series saturday one pm eastern on f s one and the truck series seven thirty pm eastern friday on f s one. We went backwards on that. Ross chastain gets a setup for darlington this weekend darlington's tell in the cup series. Is the toughest adapt in be able to hustle these cup cars in a way. That's that sufficient. I think i found pretty good balance so that last year with extended cars in the cup. I just haven't found that at last night. I thought we had a good shot run top kansas. If if i get a good start there towards the end so same at darlington just you're down.

"Here with alex. Shaw and alex you are currently in sausalito in northern california. That is correct. Well thank you so much and tell me what is your usual job title because things are so unusual now but what box should we put you in right now. Well i don't like to put in boxes so i'll give myself options that Yeah my current role is director of strategy at we work. So i actually helping to reimagine the workplace But i'm also the co founder of cedar clean energy which is renewable energy consulting and advisory company based in shanghai. So we have two hats two boxes to put me in today. Wow that sounds pretty. Bifurcated it kind of a metaphor of your life. Yeah you could say that. I think that's the right word. Bifurcated and corona virus Covid nineteen situation has also kind of showed me that whatever box you're in is not really a box at all it just becomes a you know a starting point. Well said well talking starting points. What is the object that you have which in some way typifies your life in china. Yes oh my object is actually a hammock It is a portable travel hanoch and it is something that i have never left home without. You know it weighs seven grams. Excuse me seven ounces. Seven grams would be incredible. I've slept in train stations. Airports fields parks basically allows me to feel like wherever i am. I have a home. Which is kind of a nice feeling when you're someone who travels as much as i do. It's also incredibly useful for someone who travels on airplanes a lot because flights now don't give you blankets and these long flights where they blasted air-conditioning actually sometimes use it as a blanket. And i'm a big napper. So anytime i can i take my afternoon twenty minute to thirty minute nap and this gives me the confidence to do that. So whether i'm going to office. Or whatever is really. I can go and sneak out and find a little parker area to hang a hammock very nice okay and so in that thing unveils and it becomes a big hammock right exactly. Yeah it tax down. Size of fist and unfurled into a luxurious would feels like a queen size bed. I even seen research that sir that you've actually sleep deeper in a hammock because somehow mimics the feeling of being in a womb and so i love my hammock and yeah and it really does go even on You know again day to day to the office and things like that which is a funny segue. Actually because i could talk about how. There is a culture in china where people are encouraged to take a little nap during the middle of the day right. That is a great point. Yeah i i. Obviously i think one of the most shocking things about going into the work world elder into an office is seeing heads down at one pm in across the whole office and some of the most uncomfortable positions i've ever seen Definitely did not acquire that scale. Which i heard something. Most most of them had learned in school You know to be able to sleep with your head on a desk anywhere but Yeah that was certainly a fascinating part. Well from napping. It's hard to move onto the next topic because you are someone who is extremely active. Tell me about what you were up to in shanghai these few years like. How long have you actually been in china. So i moved to china october. Twenty eleven. the the china didn't really was not really in the plan for me. It was a six week trip that got extremely extremely extended within a few weeks. I had actually met someone who had become my business partner in the future. And his name's johnny brow as he's belgian national. We had exchange ideas and so together. We ended up honestly within a series of weeks. We were like had a business plan and we were ready. We already started doing project. So by fourth or fifth week in china we had secured a Interest from a hotel in union for us to come and do an assessment of their hotel to see what environmental technologies and solutions they could implement to reduce their energy costs. Be more sustainable. And essentially to engage the local community so after that and having that all happened so quickly i was like no brainer as i got cancelled. I'm canceling the return flight. I'm sticking around. We're going to see how this plays out. So that's the first part of this journey. Oh wow well. Let's fast forward them to what you have until recently been doing in china you. You mentioned that you have now done some work with we work. But what i'm more interested in is your own company. So tell me about where that story ended up for you in china yeah. So cedar clergy became the first company in china to offer rooftop solar financing for commercial industrial buildings. So wait a minute. Rooftop financing. Explain what that means. Yeah so rooftop. Solar financing what that means is essentially a mechanism or a way to pay for solar panels on a rooftop of a building so usually a factory or an office building without having to put up any money upfront. So usually that's a power purchase agreement model which means essentially third party investor pays for all the solar panels on the roof and the owner of that building then basically gets a savings or discount on their electric from day one so that owner of the building doesn't pay anything they only get savings and the investor of that project gets to sell the electricity to the building. Yeah interesting so when you first doing this in china had already heard about this model elsewhere and they were open to it or was there a period of education total education on they had heard about like a leasing model where you kind of rent the solar panels but never this model where you don't have to pay anything up front and so did a lot of education and all of our early customers. Frankly were western companies so we actually had to go to hong kong and found a hong kong sash singapore fund that had experienced in other markets. Doing this from there. We took us about eighteen months to really figure out all the nuances with the state grid with with how to do the the special purpose vehicles which are the entities and all of the paperwork attached to it. But once we did it was kind of a big breakthrough for us and for the market and very quickly this whole space took off so we were like we're onto something in china and we have the right secret sauce and we have this Opportunity in the opportunity in the market. I first market so much urgency. That i think it became too much right where you end up starting to make sometimes poor decisions or somebody's putting too much pressure on yourself or other people because it's just like this fear of seeing everyone else who's been in that position and then not capitalizing on it not executing properly or just getting passed by the competition because originally we were first to market so it was actually pretty easy by twenty sixteen. There were already several players popping up big chinese companies as well as a few foreign players. So you have the big panel manufacturers. Who are actually selling their own product in a way and then you have these engineering companies that have tons of resources. The and for them you know they had just infinitely more human power and capital So then it really became our whole differentiator in that was trust credibility and quality than we obviously added services onto that right. We added like verification. We added onsite advisories. We go onto the site do that sesame and so we were we kind of a then built our own niche within the niche. So then there was. No one else is doing this. We call it advisory services for renewable energy because what everyone wanted was the holy grail of being the engine company who got the contract to build it or the financing company. Who put the money in. Because that's a good moneymaker too and so we ended up. You know serving both sides

"That's a Bloomberg business flash. Tom and John, Karen. Thank you so much flat futures down futures negative forty and watching sterling as well with all the news one twenty nine fifty a give back over the last few days, weaker pound sterling Israel. Julia Coronado with us with macro policy adviser. Juliet you mentioned earlier this morning, the Coronado collar, we all know the Powell put which is where he says different things and that puts a limit to how far down the market. Can you do makes yields move what's the Coronado collar? So I have thought about the central bank's actually since Yellen came in as chair of the central Bank reaction function as more of a collar than a put because they do understand that policy works, first and foremost through finance. Conditions, and they don't want to see them get sort of dangerously frothy frothy in a way that a correction could really damage the economy. So last year when we were sort of firing on all cylinders both in the economy and markets. The fact that markets were getting to a place where they described the risks coming from them as elevated they were more willing to add a hike into the baseline more willing more biased to tighten policy markets. Correct. And then that goes away, and they're more biased towards being neutral or potentially easing. So so they do use financial conditions and asset prices to calibrate policy. Can we talk about whether strike prices? Federal I expected target on the fate five hundred Julia. But I want a better idea of what would bring the Federal Reserve back in how loose to financial conditions NATO bay. So I mean, obviously, the financial conditions are also reflective of the economy. So it's not like, it's just a pure strike price. It's about like if if we actually we're all expecting a pretty pronounced slowdown this year. We're seeing it globally. We expect some of it to wash into the United States. Some people have recession calls either this year or next year. And so the question is to what extent do we see that slowing down? If instead, for example, we see China put in a big stimulus Europe, stabilized pickup and the the environment gets much more. There's relief. There's more growth. There's more inflation pressures. Then you could see and market start rallying on that. Then you could see the fed come in and say, yeah, actually, we do need to get another hike in there. But I think it would be a combination of market risk on pushing back towards those zones that the fed doesn't see a sustainable over the long run and the economy doing better than expected. We're going to hear from the chairman a little bit lights today this evening in Washington D C, I believe he speaks at about seven pm eastern. No, it's not a monetary policy. But it's not a monetary policy. I think an education stop look remarks since the dinner with the president. Now, what you want to hear from Julia that you haven't heard already. So I think that with the dinner with the president they manage that as well as they possibly could he but first of all chair Paolo made sure that he had vice-chair Clarita with him. Never go into a room alone. And so he he he had that sort of United front, and then they released a statement immediately after that dinner. So I think that he's trying to manage. I think Powell's been very clear about the political independence of the fed and his commitment to doing the right thing. I don't see the market is really questioning that right now. Yeah. But it's obviously we're in uncharted territory with political pressures right now. But what do I want to hear from Cher Powell? I think we've heard the story. They're neutral the fed has moved to the sidelines. They need to see something in one direction or another to make them change the policy stance. And I think near term we're looking for a balance sheet recalibration is there a real yield on where yields are right now. If you take these yields, and you take out inflation. Yes, the real yield. There is a little positive real yield territory. Barely. But we did move into positive real yield territory. And I think we saw the effects on interest sensitive sectors. You know, we don't know what the neutral rate is what we're feeling our way to that neutral rate, but boy did did real estate and interest sensitive sectors. I flat. It's been a big topic of debate on this program. The we could be neutral with a very slightly positive raise funds. Yes. Yes. What does that say about how much the economy's changed? Oh. Artifacts. I don't know. I think that maybe what we're seeing is a globally aging economy that works differently than it worked in the and so one day a million years ago Bill Gross to me auto by Proctor and gamble and grab the dividend. And then made worldwide headlines is the real yield dividend growth, sun, blue chip stocks. I mean, yeah, I think that is where we are basically. I think we're in a slow. I don't think you can. You can deny that we're in a slower global growth potential environment. And in that environment rates are lower and yields. You know, risk risk return is going to be somewhat lower. Julia, none of this matters in my my agreement with Bloomberg. I have to say the real yield on Wednesday like eight times to promote the real yield with John Farrell on Friday at one pm one pm. It's not artificial. What's your angle this week? Have you decided who your guests? We haven't decided just yet the angle is it's Wednesday still early in the way the sample tomorrow afternoon. Friday morning at eleven am. Actually, it's very valuable. You're on the dynamics. Julia coronado. Thanks, great. Thank you so much particularly seriously on the court collar, it's really important concept for the fed view. Thank you for mentioning the Powell speaks leaf vice-chairman Clarita later in the weakest well, okay. We can get deep into the realm of speculation about why Clarita was there a little bit. Like, I don't know. Maybe you should give.
