Jack Chisenhall and Vintage Air

"Welcome cars the matter I'm Robert Ross and joining me today as Jackson Hall, President founder of the vintage air and recipient of the prestigious Robert. E Petersen lifetime. Achievement. Award. Welcome jackets. Good to have you here. Thank you Robert. Appreciate that glad to be here. You've kind of an entire industry that's really come to be known as performance air conditioning. Vintage Air was founded longtime ago now in nineteen seventy six primarily to serve builders who wanted to bill. Really Cool. Hot Rods Right. Talk about how you got to where you are I. Understand you started rich and early age well, yes. I started reading a hot rod magazine and it was hot rod magazine, an Rod and custom which were once at the time that everybody was reading. It had got me interested in old cars and I was about probably thirteen isn't it? Funny? We're in it always starts Yeah. Well thirteen years old I think so long story short my mom my dad was an air force and he was at this particular time was overseas along so she would take me out looking for old cars driving around we drove by one old junkyard that had some pretty nice cars and for Junkyard, and there was a little Mali sedan sitting right there and so. With that one and that started it really which pay fifty bucks hundred bucks for no one hundred dollars ran and drove off. There's a lot of must have been a nice car. It was decent in Iran in my mom felt that was important. So she said that'd be good one it actually Lebron's than I thought well, mode will be in their law anyway but. What did you put in that thing? Jag. Let Me Guess Flathead v Eight maybe something like that. Yeah. The first walk was a mercury by then the mercury and the flatheads kind of really on their last legs so cheap and a guy out of Mercury, my dad and military, and so I could go out to the base hobby shop at work on it therapies they have the tools and equipment wilmer stuff anyway he was out there and he was pulling that thing out and he was gonna put an old set I'm looking at that thing going he san now I gotta get rid of this thing and I'm going hey, wait a second I ask him what he'd takes Twenty. Five Bucks for so. Two fifty, five key begins Mercury, flat. It sounds like deal and boy that was the bee's knees back. Then there really was water fun car that must have been what happened after those formative years he did some college worker well. And as going along I kept working on our of data as we went along than mercury got lost and I put a pontiac over at bow the eight. Okay. Okay. And I use that to go to school I drove that car was my only car and so yeah I, I went to school studied industrial design. Guy Down College it was Vietnam era so. I joined ROTC after I got out of college I went right into the air force that was pretty ambitious endeavor especially at the time you fly planes her through for a little bit and then I did other stuff when emir force well, it sounds like an interesting stint obviously got out your passion for hot rods did not diminish in the lease no it. Always Hot Rod Guy, was there an a Ha moment that you had that said, he wait a minute I'm going to get serious about this. Well, when I got out of the Air Force, I had to make a decision. I think a lot of people that go in the air force consider staining and making a career out of thought about that for just a second and pretty much decided that I wanted to do. It always wanted to do I told my mom when I was about thirteen or fourteen. I told her not WANNA build parts for Cars I decided. Well, if I wanted to do that, this long should stick with that I started looking around. What can I do at that point? Pete shakes had started a year before that. There was a couple of chassis guys out there now and I've thought well I don't want to go jump in the middle something someone is already doing so look can I do that's new made any backup just a second I had started an air conditioning repair installation sinner right after I got out of the Service in seventy three head that stuff laying around so I thought hey, street rod nationals coming up here in August August load up the van take a bunch of stuff up there and made three unique parts to have up there for that deal were no condensers at that time in the condenser is the part that goes in front of the radiate sure that support that takes up space and. A hot rod that could be a sore thumb and of course, in those days, it was all about thirty four. It's some people would say it's still. Also, we'll get to that I designed and had a company make me condenser company up in Minnesota. Make me a condenser that was vertical so it would fit that format because there was nothing like that available number one that's right that narrow narrow grill and the yeah it had to fit just right? Yeah. There were narrow ones but they laid down the width of the cars that were going on now. That's right. So we did that and then nine designed a compressor mounting bracket for a small black Chevy because there were more sponsorship, he's going in at that time anything else. So the hoods were narrow on hot rod so it couldn't hang out sides like they did in the newer cars. So that was the second thing we did that bracket and then the third thing we did is I made a mold. been working with my hands long enough that I just figured hands I can make them all and I can make my own plastic evaporator out in. That's right and put the coralline and I'll have a unique evaporator to fit of thirty, two

What's Your Miracle?

"Today's episode is a Doozy Greg and I cried to quite a bit, and some of that had to be edited out for time. We chatted for for a while, but this is one of my favorite episodes because we talk about neural. A miracle is defined as a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural scientific laws and is therefore considered to be a work of divine agency. A highly improbable or extraordinary event, development or accomplishment that brings very welcome consequences. Greg story is full of miracles, but that's not unique. You know I think. The miracles of recovery are widely talked about in our community. Don't stop before the miracle happens is a typical a ISM. Hey, that's because it's true. There are miracles in your sober future. To happen when you least expect them, and they're rarely, if ever explainable. Greg spent the last of his drinking and drug use career as across country drug dealer. In his twenty five years of Sobriety Yeah Twenty five years. He's accomplished some crazy successful feats, but most recently he has founded an runs startup recovery in southern California. He's attack speaker and he has a beautiful healthy family. That's a freaking miracle. Friends being able to turn your life from that into this is miraculous, and it's possible for you to even if a miracle just means making it one day without drinking. So go grab some Kleenex Hunker Down Let's talk to Greg Champion. Hi Greg. How are you I'm doing well. Trish good afternoon. Happy Happy Hour to you! Happy Happy Hour! Thanks so much for Burson, down with me for a little recovery. Happy Tonight and for sharing your story I'm thrilled to get to know in. Learn about the past twenty five years real quick. If you just want to give us a a brief introduction, and I'll ask you the same thing I asked everybody else. What is your name? Your sobriety date, and would you have described yourself as a high or low functioning drinker? Our well first of all. I just want to thank you for the opportunity. My name is Greg Champion on my sobriety Dayton's eleven seven, nineteen, ninety-four. I can tell you that I was facing five years in prison so. This was a nice kid from a nice city with private school college degree, and my disease took me on the brink of facing five years in prison, so I would consider myself. A low bottom got an. We'll get into that here in just a minute real quick. If you would just tell us just about you right now, you know where you live. How old you are! What you do for a living married kids hobbies anything like that name's Greg Champion of fifty one years old. I live in Pacific Palisades California which is just a suburb of Los Angeles. I work in a recovery business and I. Have a wife named Jennifer. A nine year, old daughter, a lease, and a seven year, old daughter name Annabel and some of my hobbies. It's funny I do some of the same hobbies as a kid I body sir. I skateboard and I'm obsessed with mint chocolate chip milkshakes from Baskin Rob's. I love that milkshakes her a hobby. My minor oreos right now so. Comfortable, well, let's get into your story and here in ten minutes or less. Tell us how long you drank cal long it was a problem and why you decided to stop you know. My story begins at four and a half years old. My father was killed in a drunk on your car crash. and I felt different. A mealy filled different because I was gonNA have a dad I. everybody else had two cars in a garage two incomes their DADS were there soccer coaches at our liberty coaches. And so from four and a half to two nine years old when my mom remarried I definitely feel different. And my alcoholism showed up before you even took a drink. A Trish, I I I, I did three things very very well. I got great grades I was a superb athlete. And I was also bowling and I use violence as my first way to medicate my. My mom remarried when I was nine. She married an old World War Two. Vet, a guy who was there on d day, the great thing about this man was that he taught me at a Thai Thai. Shave my face, open doors or women. Really old school ways I think lost in a generation or two, and I'm grateful to them and most mostly unbreathable that he was seventeen years a sobriety. And is exactly what my mother needed and in many ways exactly what I needed, misstep misstep. but what happened was for me was puberty. Right around twelve or thirteen right his cougars kicking and I was entering my freshman year of high school. I found a solution alcohol, marijuana and cocaine I also wanted to show off in front of the girls, and so between the peer pressure of school, looking at pretty girls, and the availability of drugs and alcohol I was well on my way to find my new solution to my inner pane. Did that for a few years might pattern. High School was that I would drink on Friday. Nights drove on Saturday mornings I would again drink on Saturday nights throat on Sunday mornings in the insanity of that going on for four years straight still not hitting square in the is. when all my friends were. Being talked to about school counselor colleges to go the Trish. They were going to cal and Stanford and Michigan Texas Nice Schools in my career counselors, talking about trade schools eventually ended up at a trade school. Arizona State University. and as many no, let's Party School and my alcoholism. Just blew up from there I began doing ecstasy lots of cocaine. In I got out into the real world. And light, actually the day I graduated I got my first you is. Six months later I got arrested for assault. In a bar. A few months later. I got arrested twice in twenty four hours in Mardi Gras. And here's the sicknesses disease stretches I was. There Bourbon Street my first night and went up to speak Irish combination. This is new rules what? What can I do and he says don't piston the streets and don't fight and streets. and. So Trish I'm GonNa have you guess what two things I got arrested for? Did you see while you were fighting with somebody or I'm not that multitalented. So the happened I and less than eighteen hours later, I was led out got back on the streets. got drunk and high again it could not find a bathroom, so I decided in the streets and got caught one more time and so. I have a nice arrest record there in the lovely speakeasy of Louisiana got to be the most eventful twenty four hours I've ever heard of by the way, but I don't WanNa. Take, I. Don't want to interrupt too much. Go ahead, but no, it's crazy. I was real resentful for a lot of years that hey you guys took away my Mardi Gras. You guys, you guys room. I buzz. You know for years. Even sober years in a one old-timer pulls me aside goes. Let me tell you how. How God works God put you in those paddy wagons to save your ass. Because what would happen if he would've stayed out there, you would have been stabbed. Shot would hooked up with some girl and probably got S. t you don't know what would happen, but both those times. He puts you in a paddy wagon because he did for you. What you do yourself and it hit me right between the eyes young. He was right. He's absolutely right. Then I went back to the San. Diego Start Working and I had some resentments. I was promised to a high paying job at a college. I. Was only making nineteen thousand dollars a year and I was working overnight, said the TV station. I don't know about you, Trish when I would get out of work at three o'clock am. There's certain people that are out at three am right. And those lower companions I found these he's lower companions were were girls. You can't bring home to mom and some drug dealers. and. They asked me if If I had any friends on the east coast I, did and we began shipping large amounts of marijuana out to the east coast. and I was part of that process. Eventually I got arrested. In an airport with fifty pounds of pot.

Motorola Razr Brings the Flip Phone Into 2020

"We're going to focus today on one product one announcement one thing. That thing is the not a brand. New Nostalgia filled Motorola Razor. It was announced on late late on Wednesday Wednesday night. Yeah in La at a very chic. paush crazy weird events It had line diplo. That's that's kind of the with the year for the actual party part or like what you just there for the briefing with yet and I was there for the party part that I'm glad you weren't there for that because it was It was a bit of a I see well I knew what it was. GonNa I get into their I I I think I mean I'm not here to to be a pain but you know how I always say it how it is and I just feel like more read in a very good job with this event but at the phone however the thing is a different thing altogether so let's go back to two thousand four when the the Motorola Razor V. Three was announced This was not by any means the most you know the first flip phone right full nor for one thing but there were. There were standard issue in North America. At least right candy bars were more popular. In Europe like the NACCHIO's everybody loves But yeah I mean. We had flip phones everywhere. But they're all plastic you. They were thick their basic like a pebble in your pocket. And you know we kind of tolerate them for better or worse right right. And then the V. Three comes out and it's it's beautiful it's well made It's satisfying. It's it means. Something seventy gene new concept first of all. It was the first really thin phone if you opened it up. It was thinner than five millimeters or something or five ish millimeter thick at the time that was like unheard of right and then the other thing is made of medals. And last like M- materials that you didn't see in phones at the time I mean there's so some plastic like the Chin and stuff off but the front cover was glass the The the keyboard was made of this weird like laser cut stainless steel and the shelling was aluminum. So I mean it was. Wow and the name razor comes with those of you who don't know this comes from the fact that if you look at it with especially with the Chin it open from like side profile. It looks like a razor blade. That's just opened or closed right right. It looks like a straight edge razor. Exactly Yeah so fast forward six or seven years and Motorola tries this whole thing again and they come out with a a new razor in Canada at least it was just called the Motorola Razor in the US. It was a verizon exclusive called the the razor was that the DROID AJ's arrays droid Roy's razor and this was again something kind of it was. It was one of the first phones use. Kevlar it was. It was it kind of whittled down to a very thin point. Trying to hearken back to that razor design it was one of the first old led displays this it was a it was a gentile lead. which at the time was a little controversial but it was not well received it was? It wasn't fooling font it was is a very thin looking android phone right exactly but it was. It was shortly after the release of the of the DROID line And and it was meant to again. Give Motorola that brand bump but this was a very different era right. This was twenty eleven early days of Android Motorola. Rola was still a big player. Fast forward to now right. We Motorola barely in the conversation especially when it comes to flagships so so the Motorola Razor Twenty twenty. We're going to call that. Yes a flip phone. But it's also a foldable phone so when you saw this for the first time. I'm at the briefing on Tuesday. What were your initial impressions? Well so I saw the leaks I ride. Could I knew what I kind of knew what to expect. And you know leaks. I mean you know this Daniel. There's more for your audience leaks of pretty much generally on point and I- industry so if you see a leak you can pretty much you know we have some good leakers. Otheir I I was like wow. This is exactly what we saw. But like. I'm sitting in the presentations next to Michael Fisher. Mr Mobile and I'm like at first come. Yeah whatever you know he gives to understand up doing phone since about two thousand five actually since the original razor and and I get jaded you know you get like. There's a lot of hype and marketing and and you know. This came out very strong on hype when they announced the event the way they invited people very few people and all that so I was just kind of rolling is a little bit but then the presentation a really glued me and I was like wow okay so this is just not this not just fluff. This is real I in the sense that it seemed like moral really did some great design work my background's engineering and so as looking at the engineering of this engine display and how it all goes together and the head some actual engineers up there talking to us about got it and what their design choices. where I'm like? This is actually good. Like this. and Michael Kept like elbowing. Ham yellowed me and we're looking at Shiloh and like nodding going Holy Crap this is. This is just be the first folding phone that doesn't suck your doesn't fall apart when you use it. Definitely Design Choices Jason. Yeah it definitely felt like the everybody saw the leaks as you said but it felt like the expectations were exceeded especially around the fact that the phone so there has been a a sort of trend of the last few months to associate foldable phones as delicate kid. I mean the galaxy fold is the reason for that but by and large. They're made of plastic. The screens themselves basic. The hinges ages are mechanical and therefore while Samsung and wall way have said that they are going to hold up. After you know for hundreds of thousands of you've of Ben's the reality suggests otherwise and We've seen tear down by fix it and Jerry. Everything that is just how fragile these components actually are and the bravado with which Motorola came out and said this is a stainless steel phone. It's it's also a foldable phone but we don't have to baby it you don't have to worry about it falling apart in fact you can even get wet and it's not gonna it's not gonNA stop. Ah Let's be clear here. First of all this is what they claim. And what my experience touching. The phone is confirmed that the engineering is sound. At least you know. We'll we'll tell six months a year from now the water thing. I think the expectation is that they've done the best they could to water ingress. Won't hopping in the hinge. And so that is non coated like mortar. As this thing I think it's proprietary to them or maybe it isn't in this make it sound like it is but they have not according all their phones and what it is is the phone actually truly water resistant. Water can get in. But everything's quoted in this coding repels water meaning that a won't a bit of moisture during their one damage to phone. So that's what they're saying. So I think in my opinion if I'm GonNa Pitch this to someone I'm going to say. This is a splash resistant phone. Meaning you can use it in the rain and as long as it's not pouring rain you can use it. You can accidentally like you know what it real quick and as long as you drive up real fast you'll be fine you know it's non don't dunk it though that's not gonNa that's GonNa be good right so the phone the the the actual inside screen it is six point two inch plastic oleg display. It's unfolded it's it's a twenty one by nine aspect ratio skinny tall. It's similar to an experienced one or an experienced five shakespeare. Five is almost a dead ringer of it because expire five six. Point one inches. twenty-one by nine right it's I've got a bit of Basil Top and bottom so it together like that adds up to what the Chin would be on the on the razor. So it's almost a match. I think for people who don't have these phones because they're kind of rare it's the width of Pixel four non excel and a high of a pixel four xl. Okay that's a good way of putting it and and so it is just you know it opens up to being a regular size phone six point nine millimeters thin so it's it is really thin but when it's closed it's half that size at its fourteen millimeters thick thicke. Yeah so it's exactly the same thickness and height as the original razor when closed just a little wider. Basically if you know the original razor that's what you have you picture in your

Braves, Atlanta And Kuna discussed on The MLB Show

"The kunia, obviously, wonderful young Braves player. He's just won the rookie of the year award. He's going to be a cornerstone of the Braves franchise for years to come in today. It came out that he's going to be a cornerstone for even longer than that because he signed well, I guess a seven year extension. It's being reported as eight years, even though the first is the twenty nine thousand nine season with two club options on the end. And even if both of those club options are exercised this will amount to just one hundred twenty. Four million dollars for almost the next decade of a kunia, which seems like the biggest swindle steal, whatever. Synonym? You wanna use to show that basically kunia is going to be incredibly underpaid for the next decade Ivan seat like you, usually don't see people get absolutely destroyed in Atlanta like this and less the federal grand armies involved. I was I went into this with an open mind because so far from free agencies. I mean, he's frankly, so far from arbitration that you wouldn't you can't like look at the I mean, it's essentially seven year one hundred million dollar deal. You can't look at that. And think, wow, you know, he's only making what is at thirteen million dollars a year fourteen million. And and judge that against free agent salaries. But then you look at the like the two extension deal or to extension years or or seventeen million dollars each like what like if he's going to be worth going to be worth exercising? Those options. In his thirties. Like one old be the going rate for a superstar by that point. I can't I dunno. It's it just seems. I you call it a swindle. I think that's that's not a bad way to describe it. I mean, the Braves just completely put one over on him and Kuna, I think it's important to note is in this position because he was not a super highly touted prospect when he signed at Venezuela with Atlanta as a youngster he wasn't one of those guys who made, you know, five million dollars on the free agent market. I think it was watch us one hundred thousand hundred thousand he made and he was held down by Atlanta for the first month last year. So he's going to hit free agency a year later than he otherwise would have he's making the league minimum this year next year. So he's not really going to have the chance at getting paid for a few years anyway. So you can sort of understand why he would want to lock up the security because if he suffers a career threatening injury tomorrow, then he's. Not going to have the sort of financial security to fall back on that players who came from more means will have.

Podcasting Lessons From FOX News

"Saw a tweet by Donald Trump. So it could be total bullshit is says Fox News top CNN and immense NBC combined in October cable news ratings then he says that's because they treat me fairly. That's definitely bullsh-. Let's soon that what he says about their ratings is true, though, FOX is doing better than MSNBC and CNN combined. That's the case there's a big lesson here for your podcast here is why that would happen one old people and less educated. People are more likely to watch TV old people unless educated people are more likely to be conservative. If a certain group of people's more likely to watch TV and certain group of people is more likely to be conservative a conservative network on TV would you better than a liberal network? Now, this isn't to say that younger more educated people. In other words, liberal people aren't watching new. They are. But they're more likely to get their news from somewhere other than cable television. How many young people do you know that our court cutters? People who don't have cable television at all. Well, those people aren't able to watch Fox News CNN MSNBC, if the old people that are left the old people, they're the ones who are more conservative. Here's another reason why this might be true. There's only one conservative cable, news outlet, FOX, the liberal and centrist audience that's being split between different networks. CNN MSNBC. Maybe aljazeera. There are ton of other less conservative networks that are going to split that audience 'nother thing this is maybe the biggest when it comes to your podcast. This is the big lesson here that I want you to take away FOX is not news. They call it, Fox News. But it is actually an entertainment network. It is personality driven entertainment personality matters. When people listen to your podcast, they are not listening solely for the content. They're listening for you. You can get the basic content anywhere. But where can you get the personality? You were the only one that has the personality that you bring to the table as far as content. You could do the exact same episode is me or anybody else, but you could dominate it based on your personality. If you've got a personality that your audience is interested in that's the big lesson. You can get the basic content anywhere where else can you get the personality nowhere? You're the only one who can bring that such yourself up to be the only choice people have when it comes to your viewpoint and also your brand of content. They zig zag they're conservative. You're more conservative. They're liberal. You're more liberal their religious, your nonreligious their religious. You're more religious bring a point of view bring a personality. You're not going to please everyone. So concentrate on really pleasing, the people that are into you. Then he's bringing up more personality that is the secret sauce. It's not content subcontinent. King. Well, that's a content is Queen personality is king who's going to deliver the content. Podcasters? Don't wanna nameless faceless voice. They want you your personality as wine a lot of the episodes from Bill to be podcast. You're gonna hear me tell him personal stories. I want you to get connected to me. Lot of you've podcast in device. Nobody can deliver in the way that I do same for you a lot of people share in that advice that you've got nobody can deliver it in the way that you
