Report: Private Security Firm Lost Hundreds Of Guns

"Businesses private homes and even nuclear power plants depend on private security firms to keep them safe but USA. Today in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel found that one mm firm was not living up to its promise G. Four S. puts itself out there as securing your world and in some of these cases that we found on that did not happen reporter. Gina Barton was part of a team that examined g four s the journal Sentinel Found Company. Employees have lost guns that they used used to protect those sites. Not all security firms provide guards with guns but g four s does thousands of guns under a license from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Baco firearms and explosives. Six hundred forty of those guns have vanished since two thousand nine and the paper found that some were later used in crimes there was garden Florida. Who's going on vacation in two thousand nine and he put the gun in a bag. Put it in a closet and left. When he got back a screen had been cut and the gun was gone and the police suspected there must have been a burglary. A few days after that gun was stolen. A couple of men rolled up on a house. Busted through the fence stabbed Amanda Death in the backyard and then they went into this shed. That was like a man came or a couple of young men. Were playing video games and shot both of them to death and the gun that was used used in that crime. The gun that was used in that crime was the very same gun that was stolen from the guards closet but no one knew it. We were able to put that together. Ten years later so g four s should be keeping close watch on their weapons. According to your reporting they have fallen down on that part of the job hundreds five times. You said the next part is they should be telling. ATF when a gun goes missing of the six hundred forty cases you've found. How often did they tell the. Atf they often when did tell the ATF. There were about half a dozen examples over the past ten years though when their war months. Let's weeks even years went by before they even noticed. Guns were missing. So if you don't know gone as missing can't tell the ATF. It's missing to their credit. They have said that they made some improvements in two thousand twelve and they have more improvements planned now. We talked to them a couple of weeks ago. And they said they're are going to be upgrading. Their computer system yet again so that people at corporate can keep an eye on all these field offices and the forty eight different states and they said that a lot of the I'm I am. The problem is employees are not following the policy. So what they've gotta figure out is how do they make their workers actually do what they're supposed to do what did the ATF. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms have to say about your findings the ATF said that they could not comment on a specific instance. And that's one of the real problems that we've had in kind of breaking through what's going on with. ATF because they have issued violations nations against the company through the years but they really haven't taken a whole lot of substantive action that we can find and we don't know why so we're we're making some calls to Congress and to those who have oversight of ATF to see if we can answer to that question. Jean Bardin of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. We reached out to the G. Forest for comment by the way the company criticized the investigation by the Journal Sentinel in USA Today as a quote flawed biased and unbalanced report that lacks context next about lost and stolen firearms in the security industry.

On Priorities & Optimal Thinking with Trish Tagle

"Hi everyone welcome to lead the podcast. Our guest today is Trish Tag Louis. And she's an established efficiency experts who who comes from a diverse background that spans a variety of industries including fashion and digital. She's on a mission to humanize the corporate experience gets. I'm really excited that you're here today. Trish thanks Liz. I'm excited to be on your show too. So what is the biggest challenge that leaders face at work. I would say okay that it would be not being on the same page about the direction of the company so sometimes one leader will think or one manageable. The thing that they're in business to make profit and then another manager with a Oh will were here to create innovation that that. Wow the world and they're more variations but you will find that stakeholders leaders of various departments in the same combat ABC conflicting acting values therefore conflicting desired outcomes. They don't even know this they can get into the same room and talk about a company performance and they still don't hear each other. They don't hear what they're saying and this difference in forgets resolved so I think that's the biggest challenge that lenders face. Yeah AH so. What is your number one tip for dealing with that challenge? I feel that it's more about the one tip that I can give all leaders In one organization so not just one leader is nowhere you want to go the medium business in that direction going back to the answer my first question without without understanding the real aims of your business you will find that a teams are confused as to what's expected of them and there's a lot of wasted time and effort because because they're being holed into let's say some sort of riptide of lack of clarity and purpose. Yeah and then people get demoralized right absolutely -olutely that is a huge problem when you're answering to one manager and they're like why are you taking so much time on this than the lie. Okay Lemme not take so much time and then another job a couple of them to say. I thought we were going to be doing this win. You know the clients expect it and like Okay so we'll do that. I mean I mean this happens so often business that I find it ridiculous. And that's why I say please. People director stakeholders leaders get on on the same page because this pushing poll that's happening to on different teams in on the people working under you direct reports. It's unfair. It's just unfair. So what is a concept book talk. That's been impactful for you K.. So there's there's GonNa be a little bit of self promotion actually the concept of how I believe. Businesses should be run and I'm writing a book on this. It's called optimal Kimmel thinking and at its core optima banking is a way of considering all possibilities and all of the parties involved in the undertaking so before moving forward with any initiative. How will this impact the client? How will this impact our company people so thinking of only one mm or the other may work a while but in inevitably issues will start to crop? It's a way of thinking about the whole company and not just one one piece of it. What should I've asked you that? I didn't maybe what is the same that a base my work on and that is never ask for more that you can I practice this all throughout my corporate life and obviously even in my business when I'm working with my clients I still try and keep that in mind and I believe that leaders in any industry needs to always be on the lookout for how they can improve the environment in which their teams were thereby improving the outcome for the client. which in the long run improves? The end result for the business whole again as you notice I'm talking about everything as a whole that's really where my my mindset is. Yeah there's a lot of folks that will get in different departments right and get really silo. One thing works at another thing doesn't and it gets Kinda funky right. Yeah absolutely and that's for me as you go up I mean either. They're not many people that I know that. Have assumed zoomed director position without having come through the ranks so that being the case. What is it that you did not like doing when you were in the day to day EH? And how can you change that. How can you tweet that? Or how can you eliminate that altogether so that the people that are doing the work now don't have to go through what. Oh you did and then again. You're building morale you're building efficiency which inevitably leads to profit and who doesn't walk that. Yeah I think that I a hear people say well I did it right. It's sort of bad sorta that example of like when you're a senior in high school and you're mean to the freshman and more like well the thing is it's an it feels like that plays out at work as well right. The people are like I did that so everyone should have to do it as well. And what you're saying thing is like what are we didn't. Yeah no I'm I'm the opposite I mean don't get me wrong okay. When you're junior there are dues to be paid? You have have to learn the job and it isn't always fun but there are always things that are not necessary. And you don't have to do that. If you said my background's fashion in digital there will be days that you have to work long hours and that goes for every by why and the S. may be higher up the ranks. You will work twenty hour days anymore or maybe you will depend on how inefficient your company is but the goal is really a said to create an environment that is improved from your experience. Do you have a free resource support us. There's all the words we got it. Tell me about it okay so I do have a document that will help. Sort out your business priorities in a very very simple fashion and it will help. Stop the Oprah while so that is something that I can offer to your audience. Great thank you Trish Mantar interview. Thank you so much thank you. I loved being I'm here.
