CDC recommends Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine, enabling inoculations to start this week
"The CDC now given the green light to distribute Johnson and Johnson's Corona virus vaccine, what we know and it's shipped out. I think I saw where some of the vaccine went yesterday to the UPS World port here in Louisville to distribute this vaccine. Yeah, it looks like they're they began doing the shipping yesterday. They'll continues day According to what we're hearing. The plan is for the first vaccines to go into arms. Americans tomorrow and this is the game changer. Part of this, Tony, It's a one shot deal. You don't need to get the two shots like you need to get for five. Her Moderna. You don't need to get the one and then follow it up a couple of weeks later, it's just this one singular shot. Also does not need to be stored in ultra cold temperatures, and the FDA gave the approval to a 22 to nothing universal approval that this should go forward here. So it look, It's really good news on the attack against coronavirus because now we've got three different vaccines that we can get into the arms of Americans if you get a Senate passing Joe Biden's coronavirus relief package. Then that would get money out. The states who have had a hard time getting vaccines centers created and pulled together to be able to do exactly that. That could also help on the front of covert here, especially while our numbers greatly as far as the country go for new cases are down across the country, And while you're looking at that you're looking at hospitalization numbers down across the country as well. So there's a a no overall belief right now from health officials doctor found she's saying it over the weekend. That this is the time to really take advantage of those down numbers. This is the time to get out there with more vaccines and just sort of flood the market if you will, with them spend some concerned about the J and J vaccine as it hits the market I saw I think in the UK was like 66% efficacy if I'm not mistaken, but How does it differ from five year majority of you know Well, the study found the company's vaccine to be 66%, effective overall and preventing moderate to severe covert 19 cases. The for diseases judged severe or critical. Their effectiveness is an 85%. So that's when you're talking about the variants like you're South African, your South American, the Brazilian version of it. UK version, like it really is effective against at a higher level than the other vaccines against those particular variants, So they're also trying to determine whether or not this will stop the spread of Cove it rather than just deal with the symptoms once somebody has them, so they're all kinds of elements. They're coming into play for this, and I'll also add this. Johnson and Johnson is announcing that they plan to test its Corona virus vaccine on infants, newborns and pregnant women. They're gonna be the first one That goes down into the younger demographics for this and put the tests through for it. We know that both visor Moderna are expecting to do that. But you're looking at Johnson and Johnson. They're getting ready to go from the age is between ages of 12 and 18 to start off and then almost immediately worked their way down into infants, pregnant women and their immune compromised immuno compromised people so They're definitely opening the door here to try to see if we can get to the point where eventually everybody will get a shot literally a shot at getting vaccinated against Cove in how many doses are expected to be distributed. That's part of the question here, because what we had heard initially from Johnson and Johnson was they were going to have $100 million is ready to go. They've got 3.9 million that are ready to ship out right now, so that's supposed to be the major portion of it here. Going to come back with the other 16 million doses by the end of March, probably in the last last week, or maybe even going into April a little bit there. They're hoping to have it all done out by March. But then that's going to be the majority of what we get for a little while. As we start to head into the spring time in

UK's Digital Economy: The Future of Payments
"K. Is a country that is adopted many payments innovations faster than most and it has risen to the challenge set by the European Union's Second Payment Services Directive which requires banks to open up their payments infrastructure. The resulting open banking promises to unleash even greater innovation by reducing the barriers of entry to the payment services market the UK's experience therefore is likely to foreshadow the evolution of payment systems around the world. My guests this month are Adrian. Buckle head of research portrayed dissociation. Uk Finance Steve Everett Managing Director of payments for global transaction banking Lloyds Banking Group and Fiona Roach Canning Co founder of UK based Fintech pollinate. I started our conversation by asking Adrian. What explains the apparent outbursts of innovation around payments in recent history? That hasn't been a lot of innovation. I'm payments in recent years. Although I think the changes in consumer behavior the patterns of payments that we've been seeing over the last five years probably driven more by innovations. That happened in the five years before that because people are very much creatures of habit when it comes to the way that they pay for things. It takes a lot for people to decide to change the way they pay and slow for example. The things that we've been seeing really growing over the last five years one of the key examples would be contactless payments and that has really exploded since about two thousand fifteen but actually the first contact and contactless cards were introduced in two thousand seven. So it's taken a long time for consumers to come round to the idea of contactless cards and then really take them and use them in a huge way such that by twenty eighteen. I think one in five payments made by consumers were made using contactless cards so we have seen some real innovations and real changes some of that due to changes in technology so for example contactless technology coming in but also mobile devices. And the fact that we're now all essentially carrying a mini computer around the time which gives us access to a huge amount of data and huge mountain information but also regulatory changes which have opened up the information that banks provide access to in the ways in which we can interact with all banks and those are going to provide changes that perhaps haven't had an impact on consumer behavior in recent years but are likely to be really key defining factors in the way that we pay for things over the next five or ten years

It's just discovery right. It's it's just cultivating curiosity in figuring out what is going to work best for me right now. The hard thing is it's probably not going to stay that way and it's hard to be okay with that right but i mean even if you've done diets before you know this like you do one diet and it works really well for you when you're twenty and you tried again when you're thirty or like well. He where he challenges, Tom Cruise to a fight in the octagon. This is a what the tweet right in front of me. But basically he was like, hey Tom Cruise if you're are you we'll fight the octave guide? If you're man enough to accept this challenge, okay? What's an octagon why does act sides? Well, that's the arena in, in is it UFC fighting is that the one m a whatever you f c which does m m a mixed martial arts fighting. So anyway, he so Conor McGregor announced that his company would actually host the fight. Remember that? Justin Bieber has a bunch of friends that are professional like boxers and fighters remember, as if I should know that I did not know that do because remember that he saying to, I'm not we're not I'm not even joking. He had. Friend who was a boxer, whose daughter got into a car accident and just saying her sure. It was like a bizarre story anyway. So he travels in those circles a little bit okay, but just randomly out of nowhere. He basically challenged Tom Cruise to fight, and I just think that's gonna debate it's kinda D bag, but it also goes along with the one of the blind items, we talked about, at least part of the nose at blind. Blind segment today from anti lawyer, the guy who does all our blind items, which are basically just bits of juicy hope celebrity gossip with the names withheld that Justin bieber's back on the dope. Yeah. Yeah. He's been. So he's. Rods, and act and we your here's the actual tweet. I wanna challenge, Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon, Tom, if you don't take this fight your scared. You're scared why.

"Of it or not not gonna use it like one m like if if blackberry had gotten it's it's stuff together and launched on android many years before they tried to emerge long better the cross platform messaging they had that there is as there is a period of time where that could have happened but they drag the feet and they missed opportunities so that's like who cares hub i find just very confusing i don't want all of my different messaging stuff to be in this one place a single time the phone's not forcing you to use any of this and you can ignite a whole lot and that's fine if you want to just not use it it's it's it's cool but then why are you buying keyboard the privacy shape things kind of neat like i don't i don't know know if i might much really i feel like it's kind of clever so this if you're not familiar with it basically blacks out a lot of the screen and you have a tiny little window you can drag around sheetings the shape of so only you can peak at you know the very confidential lines of the email you're reading and no one can should shoulder surf by i i can't see anyone who would use this on a regular basis and i find it kind of awkward as area and people there really very important or they are i think honestly blackberry i think they're real hope is that they will be able to claw back the market share they lost you know somebody who went to law school let me tell you lawyers hung onto their blackberries as long as humanly possible they they love them now that's not to say lawyers are particularly technically savvy group of people are representative market trends but blackberry had a pretty good racket with a few demographics government agencies included i have to feel like tcl's long play here is really the hope well if we play up security if we really drive that narrative home in we market to the audience where phones were popular before maybe we can get some of these contracts back may we can get some these by agreements we hadn't for also you know they can they can pretend to be north american company even though they aren't and i have to think that's got to be part of their strategy because really that's where blackberry made their money was on the the enterprise services side in a lot of that came down from the legal industry came down from governments it came down from big business big business moved onto the iphone i don't think they have much hope for getting getting those contracts back but i think that you know in the public sector and you know maybe some niche industries that that's got to be with their target is funny you mention funny but it interesting you mentioned government contracts earlier this week we saw the partment of defense posted its latest list of phone have gone through their approval process and samsung devices are now on there now and i pulled up the entire list looking back if you years and it's not too surprising you every year samsung's it's all their flagships apple has all all iphones i gotta run karen ios softer on there and then he looked way back l g was participating g to certify for do yes i remember that then they kind of gave up and never tried it anymore but if you're not samsung apple blackberries is not trying anymore at this yeah i think yeah i think it's a really tough sell for them honestly without the carrier agreements that i don't i don't see this phone going anywhere and blackberry has the best recognition in the north american market and and this this phone doesn't even have cd a as an option like last year's yeah there was supervised you could buy a cd version of the phone i think it worked under is an an sprint wanna pay those qualcomm royalties i guess yes this time it's just it's just gsm sa bummer i mean i mean this phone hearkens back to a time when like if you wanted to put any previous any kind of substantial amount of text on a phone you basically needed a blackberry that was the only viable way to do it that is very much in a.

"Future one of the things that are looking at is for for example talking about ryan you already hinted at am one m to some of these ryan missions for crew flights they're going to have an abort system on top and you're already on top of the largest rocket in the world the space launch system but then if you want to escape the largest rocket in the world you have to have a really a lot of force in a very short amount of time that's going to pull you win you're going to experience some significant jeez there so i can see how if you in an abort scenario particularly you would really want to master that technique i know while you were describing what you had to do i almost passed out so the fact that i'm talking right now is pretty amazing so we got aircraft operations at ellington field and while we're on the topic of just ellington and johnson space center kind of to give the whole perspective of what what's going on here in houston because i don't think we've talked about it before on the podcast i don't think yeah so we got the johnson space center which is next to clear lake right then we got a little bit more north issue is ellington field but we also have something called the neutral buoyancy laboratory right right which is pretty close to ellington field yeah i'd probably say it's kinda in between the both of us so from the flight line over donington you can kind of look over and see onsite it'd be a lot quicker could just walk across probably driving over here but yeah you can see the neutral point to lab and then the rest of some of the buildings are kind of faint in the distance but yet you can definitely see it out there and that's the i guess you can call it the giant pool yes where they simulate extravehicular activities like suiting up in a spacesuit and going for a spacewalk full scale mockups in the pool you can pretty much get a feeling just like you can get a feeling for jeez and get a feeling for for this flight simulation sort of feel within the t thirty eight you can get a feeling for what it's going to be liked to do a spacewalk in the pool best probably one of the best simulators we have for what the actual thing is going to be like and i think white sands test facility is also part of the story right yeah but i would have to kind of deal purse research to kind of get you the information on that one too yeah we'll have to we'll have to bring someone on to talk about that but that's sort of the i think that's that pretty much is johnson space center it's it's mainly those facilities and probably a couple of things here and there but everyone working together for human spaceflight pretty much so you said you had a military background what other sort of i guess most of the most of the flight instructors and folks out of ellington are going to have some sort of military or pilot background right right so as far as the research pilots we typically recruit those individuals who have had a experience one in age at aircraft and then to as an instructor because it's going to be their primary role and function everyone of our research pilots goes onto eventually become some kind of other pilot in addition to that whether it's on the wb or stream streamer the super guppy but yeah we typically recruit military pilots should be the research pilots out of there so it's probably one of the few opportunities that you get to fly after the military and jet aircraft and get to do a lot of the.

"On realized they couldn't let carriers dictate what every individual flavor of their phone was going to be at the same time htc had not figured out that conversation and htc phones were different than sprint htc phones and i think that that was started to guinea down four from 2011 ought words of they tried to reorganized says the tried to recover with the when series but even sprout that was that was still a very messy affair and took took until after they lost a lot of credibility with the carrier especially after one of five that what yeah the want the one i'm seven and to me i think we're still reasonably good performers it it it just came at the same time as a lack of advertising less manufacturing clout and i think the one that really hurt them i think the one that really savoured their relationship with at and t was the one eight nine that was too expensive amid right your phone for being such an iphone copycat that i think it really soured the relationship between htc an 18 t then hec gets burned literally bike welcomes terrible chipsets with the one m nine and the recovery with the htc ten they didn't have carrier partnerships in place for the htc town like they should have they didn't have preferred you know showcasing and floorspace dedicated to that phone and and there was no way to recover from that even though they had one of the best phones of that year but all of these groups come down to a point where each to seize braves traction is at a low at all time except for smart votes shirt earth's his before vr the rise it up but for smartphones they're they're pretty low and i don't think even if it hurts their bought line to go for a lower price point i think that this points.
