He moved to the exact right place every time on the stage to say the right thing and did the right posture every single time for this thing that he did and everything was clinical and then when he wanted to go back and reference that story he went back to that same spot. This is all really powerful skills to have but if the audience can tell that you've done the same talk one hundred thousand times then. It doesn't feel genuine anymore and the heart connection is broken with the audience. You should know your story so well that you can tell them with imperfection the you can tell them like. How did that all kind of come together into this perfect storm which has led us to your latest book which we're gonna talk Yes so it started with the first home that i ended up. Writing was a poem wrote about kind of my frustrations that i was experiencing at that time. with my music career that now i was really struggling. And kinda the the breaking point for me was was the finances honestly. I was just at a point where i was so tired. I knew that i was. I knew that i was physically giving my all. I mean i was. I was saying yes to everything i was just like. Okay you gotta pay your dues. You know work your way up. I was exhausted and broke. And i was just like i can't maintain both of these at the same time like i could do one but tired and broke. There's just not a good combination. And i was just like i have no time to do anything else. I'm tired i feel like i'm not getting anywhere i i. I have people who are supporting me. And i'm super grateful of it. But i still can't really get to that point where i'm like okay. I'm good. i can afford healthcare. Kind of like what. We're talking about like i didn't have healthcare. Just just all of those things just just falling on my shoulder feeling like a failure feeling like i let my family down so i wrote a poem about that and that was an the end of two thousand sixteen and the following january. I ended up finding out. It had been repented on over one hundred thousand times and told this day. I don't know how it happened. I didn't have any tags on at that time. Like by me. Putting on pinter's. I was just sort of like just barely putting this out there like even the original poem that poem that i wrote the way i wrote my name on. It is super weird. Like i wrote it like off to the side i. I was barely owning this poem like i was barely putting my name on barely putting it out there till this day. I have no idea who repented and you can it but some kind of way that happened. And i started to see people that i knew started to see the poem on instagram. And they were messing. Say hey there like a poem but like its name. What did you write. i was like i did. I don't know how people are finding it. So that's what. I went back and looked at pinterest and i was like. Oh okay somebody found it somewhere and The poem is essentially. It says when you start to feel like things should have been better this year. Remember the mountains and valleys that brought you here and the premise of the poem is is really just something that i really desperately needed to believe. At that time. I felt like a failure. You know if you've got a problem police force or problem officer then you just run them through an app give them some additional training off the back of it. If you don't put the structures and systems in place you know defend. The police reform the place. Then you still going to have the underlying problem but you might have a shiny app. Yeah i think the existence of companies like this into server on the anyone's few others doing similar things in the talk of bringing vr and to play as well. You can get really hyper realistic simulations with soap bullets and electronic twenty devices that disable your arm if you get shot in the arm and training exercise that you can really feel what it's like to have been been hit by a bullet and things like that but these kinds technologies tend to spring up around industries where that are people looking for an edge. Right the the problem is that throwing money at the problem isn't necessarily going to fix it and you know there's been a lot of talk around defunding the police and things like that and you can. You can think about that what you will but the point is i think that needs to be a realignment of the interaction between police and public and the way that the whole process works and i think in the united states in particular is often seen as a battle in the way. It's you know. What can we give ourselves an edge against the public. And it's not the way that necessarily should work if you want a peaceful outcome and there's another element to this story as well about how we think.

"Is you go your book like face to face to an editor or an agent and so i was pitching my book not realizing that I shouldn't have written the chapters of my main character and first person and the chapters of all the other characters in third person. Because you don't know what you don't know exactly when you're when you're first starting out. I didn't know and you know i learned and i got some requests for full So i rewrote. It's actually during that time. This was in two thousand twelve. Indie publishing was really going kind of crazy taking off. And i actually ended up indie publishing that book and i talked to my husband about You know what do you. What will you consider success if you know. I'm going to publish the book. Try with what what will mean success. And he said if ten people that we do not know and are not related to us. In any way this. I would call that a success and that crazy little bug has been downloaded over one hundred thousand times ten countries and has just there seven books in the series in. It's just been a delight and it's just been so much fun so cool. That's incredible so let me ask you this because i know that a lot of people who who listen to this podcast also have aspirations to get published in some way. What are the benefits and perks of going published through an indie row as opposed to maybe going through the traditional means at that makes sense. Can you kind of walk me through some of the benefits of one versus the other. Because that seems in some way i think a little bit more attainable for some people because you can get self-published rather than having to wait for a contract coming your way in those that difficult step. More small contracts could do for stuff within the product. So maybe you issue. A token and people like earn tokens for completing modules in the education products and things of that nature. I sounds good. But it's like honestly super clunky so like user experience wise one. i don't feel like. I have the expertise to implement it and really understand it and to i think because you know we have technically less literate. People join our community all the time. Is that like way too way too. All these crypto native products are generally very complex or they feel very complex because engineers designed them or people that have been really native to the space of design.
