"He should be the potential he should have how he could play as opposed to the player that he is and he is still one of the top twenty players in the league and so with that all being said more of where I would hesitate with less about Jimmy and Russ. What's the rest of the team can look like because who are they going to have to give? I think they have a nice piece and Bamut a bio. James Johnson is a solid guy. What happens with is Gordon drug rich a part of that is justice winslow a part? I mean when you look at a depth of this Miami team and I think more often than not. There's times we could count Miami out but because of the way they run things systematically how eric's pollster coaches the brains and the move Pat Riley we have confidence in what they can be however this would be a whole different look and how does Russ and the way Russ plays fit into Miami where is the push pull in the balance and that and so do I believe that they could compete for one of those bottoms spots in east potentially but I also think you would need to see how the rest of the rousers felt out. I think the pendulum has swung far too far on Russell Westbrook listen. There is a point in time when Russell was rip was overrated. Probably that the M._v._p.. Season listen we got. We fell in love with the triple double even though we harden arguably at a better year Lebron arguably at a better that you're russ average a triple double lead the N._B._A.. And scoring we loved the loyalty after Katie left got his team to the playoffs and people are talking Russell League's top four player in the league he was not that but now people are talking about Ross as if he has no value whatsoever because he's on a four year one hundred seventy one million dollar contract. That's nonsense. There's going next season. There will be Daryl Morey set in these right. There's twenty-five thirty players in this league that actually matter he for next season not for the future not what they will be. Can you impact the playoff race in this coming year. Russ is unquestionably one of them. There's only four of those thirty guys that have any chance of being moved before the end of next season. Another second amendment success story. Joke's on Tony cans today. Sun City center. Florida. Multiple attempted carjack. This is in a supermarket parking lot. Where this took place. Carjacking suspect. Try to get into a couple of businesses. Most of them were not yet open. There was one an employee inside. But the door was locked the suspect carrying a firearm. Guide also tried to get into cars, then a manager for one of the businesses is, like, what are you doing? The manager happened to be armed. The suspect he thinks he's a tough guy that leads to an altercation shots are fired the carjacker. Saito local hospital and pronounced dead. The business manager had a licensed to carry a firearm now. I would say to you, that if you know, somebody is armed and somebody is acting the fool. There's a moment to call the police. But I was not there and certainly I have no issue somebody using their firearm defend their life or the lives of the ones, I love, I am totally fine with it. The question to the people who are the gun grabbers to the Representative Eric swallow wells of the world to the Shannon watts is the world. Shannon watts runs moms demand action. I'll say it again. They want to prevent you from having a firearm, they're anti second amendment. They are not about commonsense anything that is methology. But because of Jabari Parker on the Lakers, according to ESPN, Brian one Harris. The Lakers have discussed treating contagious called pope to the bulls for Jabari Parker. Yup. Which would then essentially be the mellow. No defense. Yes forward. Yes. So Carmel is probably stay at a league. Jabari still thick. Yeah. Okay. Good. Any also refuses play defense put emits it. So I can respect it. He said before the season. They don't pay me twenty million dollars to play defense. It's right, basically younger. Younger carmel. He is a little bit. Yeah. He's got the he can't score like camello in his prime. But yeah, why don't they get them? All collect them. All all the guys that don't play minute is primarily tenures this. You know, that's mellow. You're talking about come on they mellow. Here's what they do. So they're looking to get rid of Luke Walton? Right. He's definitely on the hot. So. Yeah. So you bring in Carmelo you bring in Jabbari you've already got LeBron that doesn't play defense. Maybe oh, you got Rondo who's big guy. Then you well when he wants wants Rondo this is the best thing ever because it's like he basically doing the rainy Maasai play when I wanna play. Yeah. Then you get dental knee back and Steve Nash. Once again, here's Rick Pearson of the Chicago Tribune. Welcome to the second hour of your Sunday spin. I'm Rick Chicago Tribune, as those temperatures begin to warm up was out on the WGN stormcenter patio and not really seeing the the fog that was kind of in the forecast. But I'm sure it's probably going on there's enough moisture in the air but thank goodness for the warmer. Temperatures finally something to be very grateful for joining me now on the phone is Republican state Representative David mcsweeney, the Representative is from Barrington hills and Representative thank you so much for joining me this morning. Spectra last night. Yeah. And you stayed up and watched it too about I did we'd actually good overtime mega overtime happy. I'll take your word for it. I was only able to catch the highlights this morning for for the part I missed, but yes, it's about it's nice to see them on a roll. Let's see. Let's see how long it can last. Speaking of honor roll, I'm curious about your thoughts about the new administration of democratic governor Jay Pritzker in having spoken to Republican leaders on both sides of the Senate and the house. There was a lot of. We're we're optimistic a lot of you know, let's wait and see. Looking for a sense of normalcy to return to government? I'm kind of curious where where do you fall on that scale one not seeing any sense of bipartisanship yet recommend the first day in his during his inauguration speech? He said that he was gonna use his political will against the opponents of the progressive tax. And by the way, I call it progressive tax jobs tax, and we'll talk about that. I think raising taxes or the wrong answer second day in office. He said he was going to raise the pay through the step increases for state employees without Tinus how he's gonna pay for it. Then he said a series of press conferences that I think is trying to appeal to is based on the left just rubbed. Everybody's face in this HP forty which is the unlimited taxpayer funding for abortion in now. At least you're the reports that are coming on a preliminary basis is it looks like they're gonna try to move very quickly. Increased to fifteen dollars for the minimum wage, which I think would be bad for jobs in the state. So I'm not seeing any signs so far he has dinner with the the leaders. And that's about the only thing I've heard, but I've seen no substantive proof that there's actually any bipartisanship yet. But hopefully that'll change well as far as the fifteen dollar minimum wage, and and these are things that that Pritzker did campaign on there. It's not it's not like this is some kind of a hidden agenda. Let me let's be Frank. But on the as far as the minimum wage. I remember having rob car on the show. And I'm seeing reports of like kind about having basically were I guess the business community is accepting the fact that the the minimum wage is going to increase. It's just a matter of how it does. And and are there ways to perhaps lessen the burden, and you know, rob cars talked about for example, can we do it in a geography based way where cost of living is not equal in all parts of the state of annoy also would seems that there would be certainly some kind of phasing in. And then there's always the issue of youth wages as well as I guess frontline restaurant workers that that that get tips. I mean, it's it's not just the flat. This the minimum wage there. All kinds of interest is involved. Interesting to see how this. Plays out. I spoke with rob Carter that I have a lot of respect for him. I don't think he's on board for any specific proposals. Some of what he told you. But my concern is that what it's going to do is just result in less jobs in the state and over in moving people to a part time basis is not going to have the intended effect. And what does the other plays out? And there's a lot of speculation now that they might try to move very quickly before the budget address on February twentieth. I hope he doesn't do that of the governor hoping that they take the time they receive input from all parties. I think it's just a bad idea period. But we definitely should move quickly on this and to your point Derek. Remember this governor spent one hundred seventy one million dollars of his own money. Any ended up getting only fifty four percent of the vote. So I don't think there's a mandate for his policies necessarily, but we're gonna all all hopefully work together to try to make the state a better place. We have major problems. But I am not seeing any proof so far that there's any major bipartisanship. Disagree with any increase in the minimum wage. I do let me say dollars and twenty five cents. It does point. That would rather create an environment that is more conducive to job. So for example, at filed a Bill that would eliminate the taxes altogether on manufacturing companies that remain in the state that includes pass through companies that are owned by small businesses. I would rather create manufacturing jobs in the state, especially downstate in the south suburbs. Of chicago. That's the real problem is we're losing manufacturing jobs, and those are high paying jobs that usually are rubbed sixteen dollar jobs. Minimum. So I'd much rather. See it that way, which is to create new jobs and to create new mandate swings. We're seeing what's happening in other states in especially in the restaurant industry is when you raise the minimum wage. What's happening is you're actively just reducing the number of jobs number one number two. You're they're moving a lot of people just to part time status. That's not the intended effect. I would rather create high paying jobs by creating a better environment for businesses to locate in Illinois when you talk about manufacturing jobs, and yes, they're higher paying jobs, and it's it's it's more much more skilled than it was in the the old days. But to to have them, you know, perhaps locate in economically distressed areas, not just in Chicago. But downstate. Is is what you're talking about enough incentivizing? Or do you need to provide some kind of incentives to locate in counties that you know? Are pretty devastated. Another Bill, which is the P backing on the federal opportunity zone Bill which actually allows investment again tax free into certain areas and would create under my Bill one hundred million dollar investment program in opportunity zones, so expansion of enterprise zones opportunity zones in economically depressed areas. I think definitely is the way to go, and it's one of the areas hopeful that the governor will work with us on and he has a successful business background and with eighteen seventy one and understands the importance of investments, I'm hopeful that's one of the areas. So we've worked together while I was gonna ask you about that. Because of the fact that you know, he does have a business background. Now. Granted, you know, he has a progressive agenda. But the fact that he does have a business background is that temper any concerns does. I I already like him on a personal level basis better than her. Her who got along with nobody. I certainly major disagreements with over Pritzker and policy, but I've met him a couple of times, and he seems to loose willing to listen, unlike our previous governor, so I think that's a positive point. Hopefully, he's going to move toward a more bipartisan basis, I've just been very concerned about what's been happening. The last couple of weeks since is initial moves. And I was but I'm more referring to like as far as you know, moves that the state takes as it relates to business and. I mean, he's eighteen seventy one is a very successful business. And I'm hopeful east when you some experience to help focus on quitting jobs and doing some of the things we just talked about specifically bringing manufacturing back in this state and creating economic opportunity zones investment opportunities. So I'm still hopeful that he's going to reach the worked together and some of those items we're speaking with Republican state Representative David mcsweeney of Barrington hills. I'm Rick Pearson. This is the Sunday spin. Check.

But if that's the actor I soon that's the actor actually doing the the singing on the show empire is pretty good since you referenced the president today was asked about this. I have that cut. I believe this includes the I believe this includes the question from the journalist who asked the president about his comments regarding this possible hate crime here in Chicago. You heard about that story. This Chicago situation of the actor from empire who was allegedly attacked with racist and homophobic. That I can tell you is I've seen it. Last night. I think that's horrible. Doesn't get worse. As far as I'm concerned. That's Donald Trump on this story and Rafer Weigel will be here in just minutes with absolutists a police released a some images, but I don't know how the story is developed today. I missed a Ben talking about earlier today. He's been talking about this off lot. Ben Shapiro from two until five o'clock. We're going to update from Rafer. Well, Dave mcsweeney is Republican out of Barrington. And he joins us now to talk about some proposed legislation. His Ecorse will go die a quiet death because he's in the minority. But we welcome day mcsweeney back to wwl. So I hope things are warming up for you. David L in Springfield or talked about raising our taxes again the drought. So I I'm bleeding the fight there. It's cold up here. But I was going along by a ahead of us down at Springfield and try to lead the fight against these tax hikes. I want to give back to the taxes here in a couple of seconds. But I I thought you introduced a Bill, and I'm sure that they will be sent a rules committee where it will just die a slow death. But let's talk a little about this Bill that you introduced for people that definitely do not like taxes. To make sure that we actually understand that a Bill will increase revenue meaning taxes will go up pay for the Bill expand exactly what your proposal in involves. Well, my Bill does require these sponsor to state on the cover of the Bill that it is a tax hike to explain what the tax hike is four. I answer provide four Fulla transparency. You know, we have a lot of Bill especially in may sometimes people Don fifty or sixty bills in a row and very rarely does somebody get up and say, oh, by the way, this is a tax hike. So this would require the sponsor of a Bill to be truthful and try to explain to people why they want to raise taxes, I'm just asking for transparency. And if you know taxes are killing us in the state in other words, Favila entitled why don't you want to help the kids of Illinois? If in fact, it is a tax increase. It has to also include the words tax increase fee, increase tax and fee increase. Absolutely and many bills and Springfield. Are not clear on the issue that you have buried into many pages into a Bill during this items that are not good for the experts state. All I'm trying to do is make sure that if somebody wants to raise taxes, they're transparent about it. And they tried to explain it to people Representative Dave mcsweeney is here. Now, also, I know that you're behind an initiative that will put a five million dollar limit on the amount of money a person can contribute to a political committee, the benefits himself or herself that seems reasonable to. But what about citizens United? Well, let's go through this Jany brisker spent one hundred seventy one million dollars of his own money. And if you know a lot of that money came from the Bahamas tax free, they done nothing illegal, but they certainly have been very aggressive on these trusts. So most of his money comes from the highest family trust in the Bahamas. He doesn't pay taxes through those trust a full rate. He wants to raise taxes here in the state, and he spent one hundred seventy one million dollars. Bruce rounder, who is you know, I have a number of issues with spend over one hundred million dollars. Should that be a requirement? This state that you have to be a billionaire to run for governor the state of Illinois. I believe that with citizens United the five million dollar limit would be a reasonable threshold. They tried to structure this and talking to various people that you would meet a reasonable standard. If it's too low, then will be a first amendment that you shoe, but I don't know who could say that five million dollars is not a reasonable limit. And I believe hopefully, the courts would uphold the we'll see what happens, but it's just discussing you have one hundred seventy one million dollars spent on by one candidate one hundred million spent by the other. Well, I agree that the money's unbelievable. But I don't know how to separate what you wanna do with your personal property femur political beliefs. I'm sure you feel the same way. I mean, if I want to take every dollar and spend it on. Bad cigars. I should be able to do that under my rights as a as a citizen. But I think the one hundred seventy one million on one side and one hundred million on the other side is just unbelievable that being said how does this involve third parties are super PACS. They still have you know, the sky's the limit for them. Correct. It is and I would like to see increase this closure for all the super PACS. We don't actually the donors are emitting transparency comes back to the expert. We're talking about before is good. And I do think that obviously people have the ability and the right to spend the money, whatever they want in their personal lives, but I did five million dollars is a very reasonable limit. That still keeps a first amendment, right? Instill keeps competition to our political system right now, if you're running against a billionaire state.

"Center on one end, I understand Griffin's position the clippers promised to build the team around him. Then they traded him in less than a year on the other hand. Everybody gets traded and the clippers did gave him so much money that he never asked to worry about money again, they gave one hundred seventy one million dollars. If you were Blake Griffin. Would you continue to freeze out bomber or just get over it? Frees him out. Why? The guy and by the way, I don't think he's talked to dock either. This was that this was a direct lie. I mean that presentation which included reenacting his jersey being lifted to the rafters right was such an elaborate presentation, the fact that a few months later, he got traded. I think is an is an unbelievable betrayal. I think part of the problem too is how it went down Griffin. Got a call from a third party that said, hey, man, you should check with your agent. I'm hearing rumors that you're about to get dealt. I've never understood Dominic Foxworth who we worked with when we went back to Bristol used to be president of the NFL players association and Dominic used to say if you've got a franchise type player, and you've decided for whatever reason to move on from the way to do that. Is you go to the player, and you say, look we've made a deal to trade you. I wanted you to hear it from me not anyone else. Here's why we're doing we're in a place where we we need to rebuild from the ground up Detroit things you can lead them to the playoffs this season. So we're trains me Detroit. I know this is going to come as a shock to you. But I didn't want you to hear this on dreitzer from a third party. That's why I'm letting you know now the clippers had plenty of chances to do that hours before this thing broke, they didn't do that. And I think if you don't have the respect of courtesy to even go to the person and say, hey, we're about to blow up your life. Right. Then you can't blame Blake. If he never gives them the time of day. I actually, you know, I think everybody holds grudges whether they admit it or not, and I think Griffin is actually being honest here. Now after the game he made up something about how no that's part of my routine. I always sprint high court. I didn't see him. I always used to shake when you see video. It's like bomber is standing there with his arm out on Griffin runs, raving, hang and. Exactly. And so he blew him off. But I have no problem with him blow in among slippers mishandled that. And they have to live with that. Yeah. No. I think that's a betrayal. Maybe it'll go away with time. But I would hold that grudge forever. I would take that grudge to my your gray. "Turn the show over the U which shows the generosity the host and the laziness of the producers, let me someone to prevent. Under the bus Cuyler Murray has declared for the NFL draft. Does that close the door on baseball? It doesn't close the door on Jack really know if and where he'd be drafted the NFL we he'll be drafted. But again at five eleven two hundred pounds. He'd be the smallest starting quarterback in the NFL five seventy five eleven five nine whatever the case is we don't there's uncertainty. Also, he could just use this as leverage to get more money on the as if the as and we have any money. Well, that's what that's what's being said that I don't know. How accurate this is that if he were to get fifteen million dollars from Oakland? He would've turned his back on football to me. If you think that you've got a player who's out of the minors in two to three years, and is a ten year starter for you fifteen million is nothing even in Oakland because that guy's going to make one hundred million dollars over the course of those ten years as a starter. I don't know what Oakland thinks about him. But this strikes me as the Goshi -ation. Keeping both sides involvement and you'd call that smart when you were in this. Who would do that mascot? Yeah. Sure. Would should the NFL be okay with the dolphins trying to take. Okay. So this is an Adam Schefter Morton that the dolphins are going to try to tank so not this year. But at the end of next year back they could be in it for tour Tunga vilo, they they can do that. I don't think that the NFL should allow this to happen. Look if I'm if I'm Brian flory's is going to be their head coach everybody says I don't want to one in fifteen or sixteen. I don't want the u Jackson treatment. I want to win as many games. I can look no further than the bears as a team that went from worst to first I don't like this idea. They also got a quarterback which goes back to shift quarterback who like when when I gave up for him. Now, I was at the set the record straight there. But Tony, by the way, you skipped over a quarterback who will be chosen ahead of Tunga via lower. If they both come out to same year who the Clemson quarter. No, he can't come out that I don't know if they come out revenue can't come out that he has to play two more. Yeah. That's. L but Tony quarterbacks not worth it. It's the most important position in sports and America. Should Blake Griffin have taken the time to shake Steve bombers hand. And I'm this is not a situation we wash this Blake. He's looking right, right right up. He just just a quick inroad was the guy was saying Blake. 'cause I was like, no look snub. That's what that was. He doesn't Barbara got rid of him bomber training them to leave as a free agent bomber said you're out. So Blake Griffin owes Bomer nothing. We disagree on that. And I like bomber. I think this is terrible. Blake griffin. Steve Balmer signed Blake Griffin to a contract that agreed to pay one hundred seventy one million dollars that is generational and we'll get rid of them and got rid of them half days in. But the contract is still valid the commerce somebody else's paying it common, courtesy. Yeah. But Balmer signed it common. Courtesy says the guy is there you just say Hello. He knew it was him. Courtesy says if you get rid of me, I don't need to look at you. And you walk people would be just that vengeful. If it happened to you are you saying hundred garage. Yeah. Really he. Reggie Palmer look skinny and that he does..

"What's interesting is that what you what you have expressed in in a really dramatic way by running for governor for a couple of years in pouring yourself and your resources into it. People have done in many different ways around the country. I mean, whatever else you say about Donald Trump. He has reignited a sense of engagement in the country. And we saw here in Illinois. I may interrupt that we had we had record turnout record turn out. Now. I I wanna take a little bit of credit for that. Because I built an organization all over the state that allowed people to plug yo and people give you credit for that. And and, but but Donald Trump certainly catalyze some of that people expected three point seven million people that was gonna be like the outside number. You'll say, wow, it's gonna be big turnout now three point five. It'll be three point seven million people will come out and vote four point four million people showed up, and and that's you know, that is that it helped. Asia member democratic members of congress in the western suburbs. One of whom was a shock. You know, Lauren Underwood in the western suburbs. I predicted that though because she's just an amazing person amazing candidate did she she ran, you know, like the one of the best campaigns around and we worked hard in that area. In fact, I won du page county for the first time a democrat alert. In in in Illinois. You spent one hundred seventy one million dollars of your own on that race a little less than that. But yeah, that's the river take more than lunch money just say more than anybody's ever spent personally in a race for state office in the country. Do you have any misgivings about that about the system that that it vanishes? Someone who has the resources to spend that you had to spend. I don't think the system is fair. The first of all we remember why I ended up having to spend that we had an incumbent governor, and you know, this huge advantages being an incumbent we had an incumbent governor spent ninety five million dollars reelection. It's that middle class and. And he spent to get elected in two thousand fourteen he spent twice as much as the incumbent governor spent at the time and an record amount at that time. And so when I even thought about running I mean, one of the certainly one of the considerations was my goodness. He had just written himself for fifty minutes. And then he got twenty million from a very wealthy hedge fund guy here in Illinois, the wealthiest person. In fact, so he started with seventy million dollars in an account. You know, any there's no doubt about it. He scared a lot of people way. And that's how right and he had to go. I mean, I've just you know, he had to go. And there were people who were brave enough to run who didn't have the enough resources to take on that kind of mountain, and I give them credit for stepping up to the plate Iran against them in the primary, and they're they're good people. I just felt like you know, we have to go beat him. And he's. Not going to be easily beating and there are people are listening saying billionaire. He'll I self like what do we do to create finance reform we need? I mean, everybody's got to be focused on the fact that citizens in the other decisions of the supreme court that have now allowed these unlimited, you know, giving to two packs and two candidates is wrong. I mean, we just have to change the system in one of the things that I said throughout was look I wanna go beat this guy, and I want campaign finance reform, and I'm gonna do everything we can't, for example, one of the ways to reform the system is something they didn't Montana, which is to force disclosure by these dark money entities, which are entering Illinois. Now, we, you know, people need to know who's giving at a minimum. You gotta know who's giving the money, and I you know, because now there's allegations that there's there was money coming into politics from Russia and China and so on for the Trump campaign. And and augury and everything else..
