"The weird part of it is that it has a hand. Crank that controls gameplay away. That's not for power. Well i assume that was like one of those flashlights batteries on no. I thought it was like all that super cool. But then no no heart of gameplay it's retailing for one hundred seventy nine dollars which is the first thing. That's kind of crazy. Is that when you look at a device like this. You think there's no way that that's one hundred seventy nine dollars but it absolutely is. It's coming right now. With twelve games. That are unique to the device that we know of there may be more and i'm not sure coming piecemeal or not. There will be twenty four and yeah thank you thank you. But they literally just had their preorder and they had twenty thousand units of it sell and under twenty minutes people. People want the little crank machine. I guess crank thing. It's a really really good shade of yellow. it looks so good. Yellow is such a color. That's the i think that is a big thing. That's why i've been following it very good yellow. i can tell you what is like the screams lighting up yellow. it definitely hits a couple of markets right. it hits that retro market of like own astrologer. But it's also like it's kind of convenient right. You just kinda fits in the pocket. Oh yeah the battery life. Is fourteen days standby. Yeah i. that's yeah. I it's it's it very impressive little machine. It's got wifi. It has bluetooth hundred eighty like oh well. There's something to be said for for the size too. Consumer guide: streaming players 2020
"Today. We're just gonna talk about streaming players because they are really cheap during the holidays you got streaming players from roku amazon google and apple. How are they all different. What's new for two thousand and twenty. Let's talk about it on. Today's episode of talking tech amazon has four models of the fire. Tv stick now. What you need to know is one of them. Only streams in lower ten eighty p resolution and has a remote that doesn't adjust the volume on your set. That would be cheap one. The one that's selling for right now around eighteen dollars you'll end up spending from forty to fifty dollars for the four k edition Which i would recommend. Because why do you need a unit. That's only gonna play in lower resolution now moving over to the folks that roku they've got seven models ranging from thirty dollars to one hundred dollars and the cheap ones again lower ten eighty p resolution a remote without the bells and whistles of the most expensive model which is a hundred dollars and dat one streams and four k and w vision has a great remote and an ethernet jack for a direct broadband connection to thwart buffering google chromecast. There's a new addition out this year that sells for fifty dollars. It hasn't been discounted for the holidays yet. And what's different is the new chromecast has google. Td a new name for google streaming offerings which basically offers recommendations on what to watch based on your google searches and youtube views with the older chromecast. You needed to find the programming on your phone in beaming to the tv whereas the new chromecast you just have a menu and a remote control so it's way easier the apple streaming is way more expensive one hundred and forty nine dollars which doesn't streaming four k where the four k edition which is one hundred seventy nine dollars. There's pretty much nothing you're going to be able to do on this apple tv. Four k for one hundred seventy nine dollars that you couldn't do with the hundred dollar roku
How to stage a Zoom Thanksgiving
"Everyone jefferson graham. Here talking tech. If you're like me you're probably going to be doing a virtual thanksgiving Travel plans or a little odd right now during this kobe era. And we're gonna be spending even more time looking at a video screen instead of seeing people in person but that's okay. I'm here to make it a little easier for you in a talk about how to set up your tech what you'll need. Think about zoom. Think about laptops phones tablets. Think about tv. Think about a dedicated video display device. Which is my number one recommendation love or hate facebook but you can't get over the fact that the portal is hands down the best video calling device on the market and nowhere. Would it be more useful than the thanksgiving table. It's a dedicated unit. You do nothing but video chat on it and it's got the best camera it follows you around So that you could have like four people at the table as each person speaks to camera would then zoom in on that person. It's pretty amazing technology. The a portal. Get the small one. Get the eight inch. Cost one hundred and twenty nine dollars. I checked on the facebook website today. They have plenty of units. And if you order now you could have it by this weekend. The tenants version one hundred. Seventy nine dollars. The fifteen inch is two hundred and seventy nine in the great thing about the portal. It works with either facebook messenger or zoom which happens to be the world's most popular video meeting service. Google has its own video. Display unit called the nest hub. Max similar camera. It works with google meet which is not as popular as zoom and amazon's echo show can either connect other echo show devices or any phone or tablet with alexa app. So you guys could see your guests on their phones. Ba fine tablets. I think those are good. Nice big screens. Just make sure to get something to hold a tablet stand. Because you don't wanna put greasy hands all over that shiny ipad ditto for the smartphone. Same tablet stands should be able to hold your smartphone in place. If you don't wanna get the tablets stand. Get inexpensive table top tripod for twenty dollars or so. The laptop is probably what most people are going to be using Stick it at the head of the table and just sort of moving around as the dinner continues. Most important tip is to keep an eye level because usually the webcam is looking up your nose. Making your double chin. Looked like a quadruple chin. Put your device atop a bunch of books and remember to look at the camera not at the screen. You're you're making eye contact with the camera. Otherwise you're looking down. Hey what about using the tv. I've got a tip for you. They're apple has really cool feature called airplay. Which lets you beam images video and the like from iphones ipads and mac computers to other devices. If you can connect your apple tv setup box to your tv via airplay you can bring zoom to the really big screen. Additionally several tv manufacturers also have new sets that work with airplay as well including samsung. Lg sony video. Finally don't forget about the lighting if you're gonna go really dark and light candles. Nobody's going to be able to see so turn on the lights. Get out some extra lamps in have fun meeting online.
Google’s much improved Pixel Buds are finally here
"Back when the pixel phones were refreshed. You might remember that. Google announced the hundred and seventy nine dollars. Second Gen Pixel Bud wireless ear buds. They were to be Google's first. True wireless ear buds eliminating that fabric tether that the first generation had and the emphasis at the time was on the hands. Free Google assistant voice control capabilities. However they weren't immediately made available delayed for six months or something as Google said at the time. Well it's been six months. It's spring and finally. The new Pixel Buds are here and at the Verge Chris. Welsh says. The design is much improved. Wireless charging is cool. Google assistant works well and the sound quality is very good. However one small caveat quote new to this iteration as soft stabiliser arc. Think of it like a silicone fin on each earbud. That's meant to help the Pixel buds stay anchored in your ears. I had no issues with comfort. But we've been testing a few pairs of Pixel Buds and dinner and Becca. Bo said the ARC caused some soreness during extended listening and quote. I should describe this. It's not a silicon thin. That goes around the outside of your ear. It's actually it tucks inside your kind ear canal a little bit. I can see how if your ears aren't shaped correctly. That would be a little uncomfortable. So I know if that's a deal breaker or not I guess it depends on your ear and I mean one advantage of the design is the fact that you don't have anything dangling from your head if you'll recall that does mean it sort of looks like you've got Frankenstein. Monster style bolts in your ears. But I guess that's an a weirder than any other design that's out there. And frankly the coolest application of these things remains the ability to use google. Translate in real time if you're traveling. And Encountering Foreign Tongues Chris's conclusion in his review. Was this quote at one. Hundred seventy nine dollars. The Pixel Buds are priced at the same level as Jabra's elite seventy five t ear buds. Which is still personally pick over these for their more dynamic sound and because you don't miss out on features depending on what phone you have. There's unsurprisingly no pixel buds APP for IOS. But if Google assistant has a decent sized presence in your life you might be willing to make do with the downsides of Google's new ear buds lacking base and the occasional swell in outside noise for the convenience of being able to call upon it anytime anywhere

"Why I'm GONNA dig a little deeper and trying to figure out why that happened. I don't know if the players are getting sharper or the host forgetting dollar. Have to figure that one out now cumulative to competition this year I fear we had it and the winner Jason. Wesley and I I understand. Jason was named after Jason and the argonauts Jason's mother like Jason of the argonauts Jason. But it's not a male female. It's Joe McKay's that's Joe Mackay's wife Joe mcdade wife McKay Jason Wesley. And how funny? Wow how how did that happen? Well she was seven. Going into the threw a one hundred seventy nine dollar week. Wow which is a powerful week and moved from seven to take down these five thousand dollars prize winning winning the beat the host cumulative competition she never won a weekly prides throughout the whole team. Tangles crazy about this is yearly competition. But she averaged seventy five dollars and fifty cents. That was their average for.
How Do You Compare to the Average American?
"The financial profile all of the average American or more accurately profiles of many average Americans since a proper apples to apples? Comparison takes into account several factors. So we're GONNA approach this this by looking at the financial life cycle of somebody which of course starts with birth. Fortunately you don't have to pay for your own birth. That's good because because the average cost of a birth in America these days ten thousand dollars and that's if there are no complications whatsoever So let's jump ahead to one of the first experiences people have have with actually earning money and that is an allowance. How many kids get an allowance? And how much do they get law. According to a recent survey from the American Institute of CPA's as two thirds of parents get allowance and the average is thirty dollars a week. It's pretty nice. Isn't ages they say what ages they start giving they broke it down a little bit. Okay but what was interesting to me was far too five. Parents expect the children to do work. Some people feel like you should just allowance because that's how you learn how to be responsible And they expect at least one hour week of chores but on average children are spending five point one hours a week doing chores for their allowance. So let me just say that my kids are below average with my kids are not doing five hours. Where the tour? I don't even do five hours worth of chores in our house and I do a lot of chores in our. What are these are? Are these kids living on a farm like that's a very good question. Chores chores could be clean your room for us. It is dishes this. This is the number one joy that kids do and we're not even very good of making them. Do it. Put your own shoes on in the morning to dress yourself. Live at Downton Abbey. Everyone everyone here anyway. So there you go. That's allowance so that's money from your parents but you'll eventually reach the point where you can start earning money from other people and here we are talking about being a teenager but the emphasis is can because most teenagers don't according to a study by the Hamilton project. And the Brookings Institute back in Nineteen nineteen seventy nine fifty eight percent of teenagers. Were doing some sort of work. But today it's only thirty five percent most teenagers don't have a job which not even like babysitting reasoning or I I guess not then the factors for why this has gone down as number one. They say that teenagers just have more things to do. Like like more kids are doing More kids are taking classes over the summer. Also there's less low wage work more competition from older folks and immigrants. That said I have three teenagers and I'm not sure I quite vile this Mike. Especially in the summer my kids have managed to find jobs but regardless the majority of teenagers not working. What was your first job while so I used to cut before I was of age to be doing? I cut lawns in the neighborhood and Dan. I watered flowers at a local flower shop. Then sure I've told you this story F.. I faked my birth certificate so I could work in McDonalds when I was age. Fifteen instead instead of sixteen so I did that ric have I to you. It was your first job horrible paper route once where you have to go door to door and collect the money which I always hated to do you so I never did it so I never really got paid for thing. What about you so my first job? I I went to high school where you are expected to work like four hours a day so you go to class in either the morning or the afternoon and then you would then so what kind of like work at the school. Yeah you'd work in the school or you'd lurk working in nearby bakery or you'd work farm too so you could work on the farm. Some people had farm jobs or work on maintenance and the school So I worked for the principal symbol. Of course I was responding. I did a lot of you. Know entering in people's grades and typing let transcribing letters and just the office work so as like fifteen. I think started. Did you like that because I've often thought especially as a former elementary school teacher junior high teacher. I thought a lot of this education is wasted in the dish. It's been half the day like working out in the basically interning at different types of jobs because they're not learning so much in school. Yeah no I mean it was is one of the better jobs to have on campus. That's for sure. So did you. And your friends. I'll get straight a's no but we I mean we could. We could have definitely changed. All of our grades were honest asked by it was a religious school so God would have smoked in us we. We were well aware of the consequences for changing our grades. So we didn't do it got got it. At least I didn't what's next in life. maxine life is well. We're going real job hitting their well even before. Then you finish high school and and then what college you go to college. I should first of all point out that it's nice if you want to write so point out. First of all. The graduation rate from public high schools is now eighty five percent near an all time high. So let's go so how many people then go onto college sixty nine point seven percent according to the Department of Labor not everyone gets four year degree as some people go to college and they don't get a degree. People get the associates so when you look at four year bachelor's degrees and graduate degrees. It's it's between thirty five and forty percent of people who actually end up with a degree but almost seventy percent do end up going to college which of course brings us to one of the first major financial decisions. A kid has to make depending on how much their family is willing and able to pay and that is the cost of college so according to the College Board. Let's go over the numbers here for the two thousand nineteen thousand twenty year a four year your public in State Education Room Board Fees Tuition Twenty one thousand nine hundred and fifty for your public out of state thirty eight thousand three hundred and thirty four year private school forty nine thousand four hundred ninety dollars ice now. The College Board is quick to point out at those are the published sticker prices and that most people don't pay those they say that about three quarters of students receive grants that reduce the actual price that people pay and just just about every college these days has something called net price calculator. You go onto their website. You put in some basic financial information. It gives you a general idea of how much you would pay. It's not binding or anything but if you're thinking of a college go to the net price calculator and you get an idea of how much aid you might receive. That said. We all know that grants. It's an aren't enough. which brings us to the topic of educational loan so approximately two thirds of kids graduate with debt with the average being between thirty thousand and forty thousand dollars depending on which source? You're looking at repayment. Can Take Ten to twenty years. And according to the Federal Reserve one fifth of ours were behind in their payments in two thousand in seventeen. So you have to wonder is a college degree worth the cost well for most people. The answer's probably yes. College grads on average earn seventy I five percent more than high school grads but that said the Fed did find that college is not a good investment for about twenty five percent of graduates and several studies of people who have loans at found that the majority of people regret the debt and they wish they would have found some other way to pay for college either going to community college allege not going to the private school something like that but regardless of how you pay for it you do graduate head out of college time for that first job. How much can you expect to make while starting salaries these days around fifty three thousand dollars? But who's paying you the most well engineering degrees computer. Peter Science and math those starting salaries are between sixty five thousand and seventy thousand math math. Now that's crazy math data that everyone is so hot with the data. One loves the data exactly so since we just brought up salaries. Let's expand this beyond starting income income in general in the United States. What is the average or the median household income and the United States and the answer is whereas the sixty three thousand one hundred seventy nine dollars? that's what you said family or average average average household household income but there are a lot of factors that would tournament starting with where you live. So the highest incomes are in the northeast. Meeting is around. Seventy thousand thousand filed by the West Midwest and the South South is lowest at fifty seven thousand. Being married helps. The median income for a household with a married couple earns. Ninety three thousand six hundred dollars Also age is a factor the households will make the most are in the forty five to fifty four age range with a median income of eighty. Four thousand four hundred dollars. We've talked about this before. Where income generally peaks at some point in your late forties or early fifties? Finally just just give me an idea of where your income puts you in relation to the rest of America. Here's how the income dispersion breaks down so if you make thirty seven thousand dollars you're in the bottom thirty thirty percent again. Median sixty three thousand. If you make one hundred thousand year in the top thirty percent hundred eighty four year in the top ten percent and to be in the top five five percent you make two hundred and forty eight thousand dollars. That's generally how income breaks down.

And then Pong too and you use a little side buttons as flippers for the or the pinball all game and then the dial in the front used for breakout in then it ran and it was color but the most insane thing is is that Iran on six exte- batteries six at sea batteries. Yeah yeah let that roll off. The tongue see batteries. It didn't plug in and I remember we'd always have to replace stupid things with the batteries and you win. It started running low on batteries. The lines on the screen started to get blurry a little bit and kind of Fade in and out and you hooked it up to your TV and it was done through the antenna system because back then they didn't have hd Meyer higher even the RCA. Jack You just had this antenna attachment that would kind of you. Had these two screws on the back of your TV you'd loosen them up and put these little wires underneath and tighten. Tighten it back down again. And that's how hooked up and it was color but way we had it at our house is the Nice TV was upstairs and it was color and the downstairs had an old black and white. TV So we didn't even had color for for this system. Sometimes my parents would let us bring it upstairs and play with it up there. But so so the seven video games at a had were four pinball pinball variations basketball game in two versions of breakout so breakout had the little paddle at the bottom. And then you knock out all the little color tiles at the top and the I don't remember much about the basketball game I just remember the pinball and the break breakout by far are was the one that we we played the most. But I don't know if you've ever seen this one randy before her heard about it. I've heard of it but I've never seen it. I've never used used one. I've never seen one in the wild super interesting I. I'm so surprised that it runs on batteries. No definite it's that's so weird but this is one of those like it's Kinda what Nintendo does anymore. It's one of those. The controller is the console. Guess where the controls patrols built right into the console. That's that's very interesting. I it is like we you or Or a switch and I didn't know about the is cool that it's has pinball and it's got the buttons on the side for the flippers. That's fun yeah. It's in research like we were saying earlier. There are a lot of systems like this. That didn't this is before the days of the cartridge. So you put all your games in one big block unit and we primarily had this on the floor in front of the TV. So you Kinda lay on your stomach car. You might sit and put it on your lap and use it that way and that's us the buttons. There's some buttons on the Front. You have five different buttons ones reset select elect option power and then ball served so when you did pong or breakout you hit the little button and then the ball comes down and you start playing then as how how that worked so the the guts of it your your calculator. Your watch probably has more world than this thing but it was. It was our first system. I was probably five six years old at the at the most when we got it and so for me it was like well. This is really cool and I grew up in the in the country out in Nebraska. So we didn't have an arcade nearby and so this was. I'm surprised my parents bought this. Actually I'm shocked and yet because the kind of had a pong market back then but this kind of came to an end of course when later on the Atari Twenty six hundred came out and you could more more than seven games on system and the cost for this. I was researching this. So the cost for this back in seventy seven on one website said it was isn't one hundred seventy nine dollars which would be seven hundred and fifty eight dollars in today's dollars. Imagine your parents spending almost eight hundred bucks or even now spending spending seven hundred fifty eight dollars for a game system that only played seven games seven games so yeah there's no Expanding the library there. Wow that's insane I. I was just shocked when I ran the numbers on that as a website. You can go to plug in the year and it will you put the dollar amount. It tells you what that is valued today but seven. Let's see systems like playstation four and Xbox or what four ninety nine. I think we're based system. I think so. Yeah I one hundred bucks. This is two hundred fifty dollars more than just so. When I heard that I saw that I was like? I'm sure my parents pigs except year or two later so probably wasn't quite that but it was still still a lot of money and I think the thing that of course this thing is the style gic for me so of course I'm probably is not that great of a system when he kind of look at it but at the time and that your first system you kind of like Whoa. This is cool. I I have no plans to buy this. You can buy it on Ebay and other places. But I don't know we don't even have an antenna hookup. You'd probably have to get some sort of adapter to make it

"Mary Sherman reports taxes may be a certain as death, and some experts say what also should be certain is knowing exactly how our tax dollars are being spent according to new data the average American paid about fourteen thousand dollars in federal income taxes in two thousand eighteen the national priorities project at the institute for policy. Studies crunch the numbers and the largest chunk of every tax dollar nearly thirty cents for healthcare program director Lindsay kosh carrion says military spending and compasses the second biggest share with twenty four cents. However, she notes less than five cents that goes to troop pay and benefits while twelve cents goes to military contractors point of comparison Lockheed Martin got forty eight. Billion dollars the entire budget for the Environmental Protection Agency about eight billion dollars. So this is a huge amount of money. That's going to several contractors. The average taxpayer spent about one hundred dollars for k through twelve education, which is the same amount on immigration and border patrol, including family separations about fifteen cents of each tax dollar went to federal interest in the national debt, seven cents to unemployment and labour and six cents to veterans caution. Karen says federal crisis response is being funded at the expense of crisis prevention, she explains that the average taxpayer paid one hundred seventy nine dollars to deal with the aftermath of natural disasters such as floods hurricanes and wildfires we know are probably exacerbated by climate change. And so one hundred seventy nine dollars is twenty two times as much as you contributed to renewable energy, which is only eight dollars for the average taxpayer individual income taxes, encompass half of all federal government revenues which. Koshkarian says is a lot more than corporations back in twenty seventeen. Individuals were paying seven dollars for every dollar paid by corporations. And today that number's going to eleven dollars individuals are carrying more burden for funding the federal government compared to what they used to do corporations paid.

Gary started right away with the credit agencies. I get like twenty six collections varying from seventy eight dollars up to four thousand dollars worth of collections. A lot one hundred seventy nine dollars collections. You know, they so I put on a spreadsheet was twelve thousand nine hundred dollars to know that he had those he didn't know he had that many. He knew he had he knew he had some collections. He didn't realize the abundance of the collection that he had one company. He had literally file fourteen collections for close to four thousand dollars hundred seventy two hundred thirty six you know, some crazy numbers because he had a lot of medical treatments, and it was the gap stuff for the insurance didn't cover and then the office center immediately to collection so that one hundred seventy nine dollars. Collection may be the doctor received forty dollars right because they sell it off and pennies of the dollars. Write it off to get something a collection company buys it from the doctor. So the doctor kicks it out into the collection company. Now, it's on this guy's collection. And he's in the high five hundred slow six hundred ones in the four hundred. He doesn't know where to go. So we have a start date. We have an end date somewhere. Six eight nine twelve months in the future. And we're going to put Humpty Dumpty back together. It's totally grateful. Didn't know what to do.
