We'll get into that next. Is the breakfast club. good morning. Well molitor morning everybody is. Ej envy angeliki charlene. The guy we oughta breakfast club skins front page news right when we start we well. Let's start with kobe. Tokyo has seen that third consecutive day of record. Kobe nineteen cases and so they said at least one hundred. Ninety eight cases have been reported as linked to the tokyo games as thursday. They are under a state of emergency which is in effect until august. Twenty second now the. Us has also reported their highest number of new cases in the world so there is some assertions the delta variants spreads and some more than six hundred and eleven thousand americans have died from kobe. Nineteen just fifty seven point six of americans as twelve and upper fully vaccinated according to data. And the cdc has cited new science on the transmissibility of the delta variant. They also changed mass guidance. They now recommend everyone in areas with substantial or high levels of transmission vaccinated or not where a mask in public should remember. Took off So i'd take that guidance lessee land's bottom signed an executive order require mass inside all public places but i was what what does that affect Like baseball and he's concerts and he shows you going. It's like she say you know crazy. I hear people discuss how we should listen to experts and scientists and not focus on social media and i agree but man when the experts make foolish decisions like this that defied just simple common sense that we all have is very easy not to listen because common sense would tell us not to take the mask off common sense. I said last year. I'm always wear my mascot airport from now on right so dollar asians. We used to see all flights where and math. And we wondered why. Y'all were ahead of the curve and i'm never taking my mask off at least at least at airports because everybody's control it doesn't mean you stop you. Stop wearing condoms right. But i will say they never said you could take them often the airport like you could take them off they said if you were vaccinated you can take your mask off. The airplane anywhere is that if you were fully back not in the airport. I thought i said anywhere. The input you have to wear airport. I was talking about you still in general. I'm just saloon ages because that's what we used to see them at at the era with the mask on but i'm wearing my math in public places period for the rest of my life just because it seems like it makes sense and you saw what they said flu cases. Drop because everybody's wearing math for things of that nature. Why not well. Disneyworld did bring back the indoor mass requirement for our guests all guests like you said in atlanta. You are required to wear masks indoors. New york city off at one hundred dollar incentive for vaccination that starts on friday so anybody who goes to a city run vaccination site for their first dose of the vaccine will get one hundred dollars and this is because there's also surging cases in the city as well they said driven by of course adults delta variant. They said the last friday. The average of new delhi cases with thirty two percent higher than a week prior and we got a lot going on right. Now you have really be careful at least. We're your mask when you're i was watching. Cnn last night and you know You know everybody keeps trying to blame the unvaccinated but they had a doctor on last night and she was saying that vaccinated people can pass it. Each other and evacuated. People can pass to so sounds to me like everybody should just practice. Those who business continued away their math. On the way i was driving in. I i listened to the news on the wind and i joe biden. Say something like If you haven't got your vaccination yet how did he put it medicine. Like if you ain't get stupid and i'm sitting here like this president while you find audio yeah right. They will find audio off. I'm like what minutes not that bad. Take what did you stupid if you and get you vaccination and a lot of people. Just don't feel comfortable getting vaccination but that's his opinion. If you feel like people stupid i give you. The president man has suggested their data has suggested third dose of covert nineteen vaccine strongly booth protection against the delta. If the if the first two aren't protecting people from it. Then why would i get it. They're gonna think this went through guys. Come on come on right. They are still saying though that if you do get this and i just want to continue to reiterate this if you do get the vaccination it does lower transmissibility and likelihood that you'll get it. That doesn't mean you won't get it but it lo- is that likelihood and i'm lois the attic and hospital. Get information you say cds even saying anything more died they said i think ninety.

"And WBOY I'm robin young and Jeremy Hobson is here and now more than three million people filed for unemployment last week as the corona virus pandemic brought many industries to a standstill that is the highest number in the more than five decades of the labor department has tracked jobless claims clips in the previous record of six hundred ninety five thousand back in nineteen eighty two let's bring in Diane Swonk chief economist at grant Thorton in Chicago Diane we knew it would be bad but just how bad is that it is really bad with stunning about the numbers we know that many people can actually get their claims filed because the system's never were designed to hit the sheer volume of people applying for claims online that occurred in so many people are locked out what's different about this one is how many service sector workers were hit and hit hard and the next wave will include much of the actual shelter in place orders that we saw take hold over the country this is only the tip of the iceberg of those and I think that's important understand to manufacturers that were still up and operating will be shut down for both shelter in place reasons and just for the safety of the workers all that is yet to come how high do you expect the number to go and when we get these unemployment claim numbers every week unfortunately we just don't know our estimates suggest were well into their teens of millions that tens of millions in terms of you know twelve to fifteen million jobs lost that eclipses any other recession and the speed with which it has occurred and immediate loss of jobs the likes of which we've never seen and what's important about it is it's the first time ever we've seen on a real time basis no no weak the economy fell into recession which was March first twenty twenty it collapsed but that also offers us clarity it's why the measures and aided by the government are so important it's why the efforts of federal reserve a Downer so important we know there's an end date to this we don't know exactly what it is that getting us to traverse these coveted tainted waters in life boat is the best ways to get us to the other side and pick up on the economy once this is over so do you think the two trillion dollar emergency relief package that has passed the Senate is going to be enough to do what is needed at least at this point to limit the damage from the economic shock now this is just the phase three of what will be many phases of eight Congress is going to have to find a way to vote remotely tend not mine infect each other but to to make this more efficient the process it's hard but it's necessary this is something that other countries have gone higher as a share of GDP does well over ninety percent of GDP our other countries have gone higher than that with larger safety nets we have huge gaps in our country we don't allow for people to lose jobs particularly in such an extraordinary way through absolutely no fault of their own I really don't understand anyone holding back at this point in time Congress will never look back at this period in time and almost say boy you do too much Wall look back and say why didn't you do more at the same time Diane it should there be any concern among members of Congress about the amount of debt that is involved with this you know those ideologies I was a deficit hawk for years and I still am but at these interest rates and the willingness of the fed to finance it no put it on the shelf they didn't care about it for the tax cuts he should be caring about it now this is a crisis in interest rates are lower in extraordinary period of time where the cost of good of financing what we absolutely need is so low I don't care what part of the political spectrum you're from right now shelve those ideologies because they don't apply to this situation it is Diane Swonk chief economist at grant Thorton Diane thank you thank you well let's go to Kentucky which has at least one hundred ninety eight cases of covert nineteen five people have died and I governor ended this year will shut down all non essential business and cancel elective medical procedures governor Beshear you've already asked people to stay home but haven't issued a shelter in place order no new Jersey's governor told us he's considering arresting people out when they shouldn't be should you be tougher know what I would start by saying is what I say to our people in Kentucky every night and that is we will get through this many steps that other states have taken and what they call shelter in place orders we may have put in place more than a week ago L. here in Kentucky we have people that are bought in little governor some people are saying Kentucky's are bought in because of you you do have a five PM briefing Kentucky answer saying it's like beers with this year's they can't wait to sit down and and hear from you and you do reassure them you know it's not easy to reduce your your contacts to engage in social distancing and so just to have that opportunity each and every day to remind ourselves of who we're fighting for and the fact that if we come together but stay apart that we can and we will get through it but it all of us this is not something where the the the police scanner or should run around trying to to to force people into their duty this is a once in a generation once in a hundred year time where the people of America have to come together and we have to internalize it where are you in getting the equipment that you need other governors as well have said that they hate the fact that they are bidding against each other there should be a you know some sort of a national approach to this and you've said your state had a line on a quick meant needed when FEMA came and bought out from under you so you're also competing with the federal government are you getting outfit it is tough that we are out there trying to compete with other states and with even the the federal government but I think it's a pourtant we remember as we all have to stay calm as we deal with this with this virus didn't exist three months ago because there aren't enough tasks in there isn't enough PP we got understand if we're healthy but nervous we shouldn't be getting a test how are you going to support people who are out of work of that huge number today over three million people filing for unemployment fifty thousand we're from your state we know that a week ago you paused in fictions what else can you do I'm gonna do everything I can to help every person in my state to get through this to make sure that everyone will have enough and and that we encourage our residents to go shop for a week don't shop for a month to make sure that that next person behind you has enough we're signing everybody else for unemployment the qualified here in Kentucky we've opened it up to independent contractors to small business owners the folks who are working in day cares and in churches before this happened so expanding unemployment but just in the time we have a just a one last quick question your state's Chief Justice has urged a court officials to release jail inmates quickly many people are in jail for for instance a parole violation or they couldn't pay a fee so these were not violent the Lexington Herald leader is reporting that officials have been slow to do so is this a priority for you to make sure that those jails are overcrowded and incubating disease it is a priority of us to make sure that any area be in a jail or or be it's on the other end nursing home work where there are captive populations we have got to make sure that this virus does not spread through them so we are reviewing plans certainly on the present side which is under my jurisdiction about than those that are near the end of their term making sure that they don't have symptoms and so making sure that when we could really someone that they would be going back into their community and not alternately bringing the corona virus with them that's Kentucky governor any this year governor thank you and best best to you thank you and best of luck to everyone out there analysts to check back in briefly in New York which by far has the most confirm coronavirus cases in the country more than thirty three thousand in the state twenty thousand in New York City reporter good Hogan is with WNYC and when you governor Andrew Cuomo says it looks like the rate of hospitalizations in the city is slowing down because of the shelter in place orders but we're seeing pictures of nurses in garbage bags for hospital gowns and lines outside a hospital in queens so things still seem really stretched yes yeah I mean that was very cold comfort he said it was doubling every two days every four point seven days but even so you know we saw our highest death toll yet yesterday in New York City in a single day eighty eight people passed away from the virus end Cuomo himself yesterday revised his earlier projections fast forwarding the peak of the outbreak to occur in mid April instead of March and saying we might need forty thousand ICU beds instead of thirty thousand houses office earlier projected and as of today we now have more than twelve hundred people in intensive care units well he needs forty thousand bid you the city of peril he has three thousand so that's around us and you mentioned mid April which where people certainly will be crowding you know churches church pews at that time look up governor Cuomo and New York City mayor bill de Blasio have criticized the federal emergency relief package that passed the Senate last night just why yeah my understanding is that the package includes about five billion dollars for New York City in state to plug budget gaps but New York officials are saying that's like a drop in the bucket Cuomo called it terrible yesterday he said the state is expected to lose as much as as many as as much as fifteen at fifteen billion in revenues from the fallout of this crisis and we stuck to spend billions more in order to respond earlier house bill had included much more funding for the city in the state now look are there also considerations we mention them in Kentucky of getting prisoners inmates out of jails because of outbreaks there just briefly with the hearing yeah there are mounting calls from the board that oversees reikers island from the jails doctors and advocates to release more vulnerable inmates as of last night two hundred people were supposed to have been released but there are thousands more inside an estimated nine hundred people over the age of fifty and there's really no safe way for people to be socially isolated inside of Ryker's island the city says it's still considering more cases it but in not those with the mystic violence or sex crimes charges it's reviewing more cases working with district attorneys but advocates are warning it is not moving fast enough to get people out so that if they just don't become a huge infected population Good Hogan WNYC in New York thank you okay and you're listening to here now.

"Eight one one three five Stephanie is still on vacation this week yes yeah but I'm Chris lavoy that is Travis bone yep died indeed us and we are filling in all this week for Stephanie and yeah we got we got conference coming up later on this hour and then I don't know Goldberg will be joining me facetime yes in our number three and and we may have a surprise visit from the lady in the attic from ms Miller the lady in the attic my sisters later today yeah so how was your so the excitement yesterday for me what I left here you got a text from me yes I went to target yes and the first thing I did when I got to target was I walked into the bathroom so I could wash my hands on and I saw people in line at the check out to a toilet paper yeah yeah so my first reaction was how fast can I wash my hands before the toilet paper is gone right exactly what I needed more of was a paper towels and toilet paper okay they had both of those things and yeah that that targets too far away for me to go through and then I got in line and I saw the person from me had disinfectant wipes and I got really really jealous because I did not pick those up almost to control and I was not getting out of line but not no one was aligned it was it was moving slow and people were being very persnickety it was it was that there was a little like a one item per customer limit on all of that not stuff and I panicked from home because one of the things listed on the sign was alcohol okay and I realized a man I'll call not liquor right yes is it at first I was like oh no no if there was ever a time I know that that is a grocery stores and it was like target usually refer to it as spirits liquor yeah I know yeah I saw alcohol and I nor my head went out exact it was not it was it was it was was moment were for the rest of the country they sell liquor in our targets yes yes you'll get that are in a lot of places across the country also this the one supplier at that date at the grocery store I go to is also fairly well trained all right yeah nothing like there's been a rush on it special or shopkeeper walking welcome to America so it is even tough they are right now and just look at the numbers you I've been updating myself every day with the new York times I've been using that as like a guide post okay the car buyers diagnostics our diagnose test because at least I'm getting I'm taking from the same source every time even last night on MSNBC I think I swear during Rachel they posted in the Chiron that they're over nine thousand cases okay then during lunch to show it was eighty five hundred cases so somehow this so I I I I I'm I'm leaving I'm just going to the same source every time yeah that's the best you can do but based on the York times numbers this morning eight thousand three hundred thirteen cases diagnosed in U. S. yesterday morning we had eight or five thousand eight hundred seventy nine so now it's it's going to fast and like like I told us it would yeah we knew this is gonna happen in the end a big chunk of it is because we are testing our testing more and at the tester because it takes three to five days for the tests come back yeah so we're seeing a snapshot yes almost a week over a jump from last week and I'm not seen in this morning there was I had alert that medical medical professionals are reporting that there is a shortage of swabs now yeah which are necessary to do the test and that is causing that's what's causing a bottleneck right now in the testing process here so once again trump has failed us on this front because we aren't prepared for these things no we're not and you know a lot to be said about that but I was watching morning Joe this morning and he made a really good point with that yes trump has started using the pejorative a Chinese virus I mean in in like press conferences is yep like yeah you know and and Joe Joe Scarborough made a really good point he's only doing that so that the pundits on TV would talk about it I'm not talk about the shortage of tests and supplies and and basically trump's abysmal reaction to this movie because actuation we got that this is the opening of yesterday's presser in case you missed it he start out talking like this see some important developments in a war against the Chinese virus will be involved in the defense production act just in case we needed the end it did the the defense production act that's that's an interesting development yeah that's what that's Korean War era and allow them to seize industries and change their functions and which is interesting because what's necessary yes I well yesterday on on the personal stories or not but the big three Ford GM and Chrysler all shut down their factories yeah I'm so there were some but I don't click combo was on C. N. B. C. in the afternoon mmhm and he was talking that they have actually reached out to some of those car manufacturers about re purposing the factory okay to build a respirator so let's do that and does it they they started that in Great Britain last week yeah and if we should have started last week and Italy's three D. printing the valves for the respirators yeah they are and they're able to do it fairly quickly which is a good sign that's you know step in the right direction force yeah we'll see how durable those valves are though it it it I think in the way the printing and it sounds like there but yet they can print them fairly rapidly at that yes it can be daunting I'm rapidly but are they durable for for the long haul they can replace them okay that's the that's the good news on that front and they and they were talking that during times of crisis like this we do see innovations in fields like that a new applications for processes that have been around for awhile so it's gonna be interesting to see what what does come out as hopefully we will come out of this not just with an immunity to the virus because of herd immunity but also how to be better prepared to have better yeah I don't know that we can count on herd immunity because this is viruses changes and mutates quite rapidly that it's yeah so yeah we just don't know there's so much about this virus that we don't know well it's it's speaking don't know yesterday we talked we mentioned at the top of the show that I China had expelled the reporters from like New York times Washington post Wall Street journal they're not just American journalists drills all over the world are being expelled from China right and then more anxiously China announced there have been no new cases of chronic virus yesterday China's been prone to prop like propaganda in the past yeah I mean this is also were looking at was it Russia that saying that they don't have what's the number for Russia right now it's not showing up on my map right here speaking of numbers so we passed in Germany overnight in the number of cases and also something that's all that's worth pointing out Germany where there's eight thousand one hundred ninety eight cases they only had twelve deaths yeah you know we are eight thousand three hundred eighteen we've had a hundred forty seven dollars we this is not about the American health care system is out of South Korea there are eight thousand five heard sixty five cases and they were on this they were about two weeks ahead of us as far as diagnosing the first case but they rolled out a massive effort to test everyone and they will have ninety one deaths yeah yeah and also the CDC was reporting this morning that it's not necessarily the elderly that are dying from this that Allstate chunk of young people that are dying from it too which was a little bit unexpected yeah I heard that yes on the home and we have a.
