"Life. He's what thirty years old he's extraordinarily talented. He's got a world of confidence. You know he should be a among the favorites every single time especially here but you know golf is a funny game. You know people win who aren't supposed to win as often as people when who were supposed to head. It's not like tennis where you know you get Jovovich and Federer and the Dow just about every week gulfs kinda crazy and the weather can play a big role in it. You know the one of the other things that I think people don't realize a lot of it has to. To do with luck on Thursday and Friday of any golf tournament you start in one teatime and then you have an opposite teatime so if you're early on Thursday you're late on Friday. Well what happens if the weather is bad when you play happens all the time so luck has a good deal to do with it but mcelroy any day of the week you gotta put him in the top ten. We'll get you out of here on this. This is the first year that we've seen a schedule where the masters has always I but the P._G.. A moves up so the British open last and it's fairly condensed justin rose has been around the block says the new schedule has the majors to condense Jimmy. Is that a common sentiment on tour. I don't know about that Hi Tony I love it personally because I just think personally as a sports fan. What are we doing playing golf big events of golf in September you know I want to watch college football and I WANNA watch professional football in September? I think this one a month thing is good and I gotTa tell you something. The Open Championship has only been held not in Scotland or England twice now in one hundred forty eight years once in nineteen fifty one when it was here portrush and now again so I think that this week is just going to be so exciting. What it means here you know to this part of the world politically to the folks of Northern Ireland and to the island of Ireland? I think it's a very very unique year. It's going to be very very exciting. Thank you so much. Jimmy is so great to see you. Thank you say you guys you can watch every stroke of the open championship on the Golf Channel N._B._C.. Let's take one last break but still to come. Did this cubs fan deserve the souvenir the neons he grabbed from the basket and should we believe too and when he says he's learned more from losing the National Championship game and he would've learned from winning..

"Central and now the WGN forecast, here's meteorologist Tom skilling. A warm-up gets underway with snow tonight. The warming will be a slow process to begin with and moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico means after a partly sunny day tomorrow, we've got foggy and freezing drizzle moving into the area. But temperatures will build to the forty s by Sunday and the fifties during the day on Monday this could tie record for the greatest five day warm-up that we've seen in the Chicago area in one hundred forty eight years of weather records almost seventy degrees. Warmer by the time we get to Monday, winter weather advisory tonight, those showers and far, west suburbs. Caned? Cal KENDALL, Grundy and khaki counties included six to eight hours of snow tapering off in the hours before done not as cool overnight nearly steadier slowly rising temperatures could zero to five above by morning. Friday turns partly sunny, not as cold temperatures twenty to twenty five degrees. Warmer at twenty one Friday night, clouds over fog and freezing drizzle develop low temperature eighteen that could be a real travel nightmare and Saturday damp and foggy freezing drizzle and drizzle in the morning. Maybe some rain in the afternoon. Temperatures break above freezing Saturday afternoon, reaching thirty four then Sunday. Cloudy, breezy milder. Some morning drizzle high forty two and Monday, rainy, windy, unseasonably mild, chance of a thunderstorm. Fifty two but falling in the afternoon Tuesday. Cloudy, colder, a wintry mix of snow possible Tuesday night high on Tuesday up to thirty three. I'm Tom skilling. The WGN weather center. Right now here four below midway to below Oaklawn to below the Windsor calm. The barometers falling along the lakefront also to below. I'm Kim Gordon in the WGN newsroom. "Yeah. Think about summertime quite yet. Because it breaks my little heart. Tom skilling is here to soothe my pain at least for a short period of time. And Mr. skilling, let me ask you this question when you said, there's no wind chill is there. Really, no wind chill right nows or no wind knowledge. No win win. Officially it'll here field I encounter debris out here in the parking lot. On the northwest shy. But apparently, the is quite calm. It's common at O'Hare is common Aurora and we've got a three mile per hour wind at northerly island right now. So what is that telling us? It tells us that we're in this transition period and milder air, it's going to be a slow one. But it's going to be a significant one before it's all over we could go from this morning's twenty one below. And by the way, it hit is cold is thirty-three below this morning out in sugar grove, thirty one below and Rochelle. There was a sugar grove thermometer fifty years. Let's this I go with that is the official broken. It's it's such an valley out there. I used to fly when I was in high school is team supplying lessons out of the port there a nice airport, but they sit low out there. So what happens is the cold air bottle? You know, sits down there like milk in the bottom of a bowl because of its density, and they tend to get colder temperatures. Screw you over there. You know, it's interesting mount Carroll. There's a cooperative. Observer that's up by the Mississippi River between Dubuque in the quad cities had an unofficial low this morning of thirty eight below that comes anywhere near verifying that would be the coldest low temperature ever recorded in the state of Illinois. So he set any records here Tom during the stretch, we oh, we we broke the records here for overnight for the preceding low night before last and you don't like, my colleague, Mark Carroll. The calculation turns out this last week of January. It will go down on the books as the coldest final week of January one hundred forty eight years of weather. We knew that. Yeah. And not not a surprise there. Right now. Yeah. It has averaged seven point two below and the next closest to that was nineteen thirty six which averaged four point seven below. So, hey, there's something to tell you know, the grandkids and survived. It. Yeah. Right. Through this. You know, are we done with the frost quakes and the types of? I would think show actually this is the this is the part where it gets really.

"And now the WGN forecast, here's meteorologist Tom skilling. It's been a cold wave for the book. It's official now. This has been the second coldest day in Chicago weather history, and whether history here goes back one hundred forty eight years to eighteen seventy last time it was as cold as today on average was Christmas Eve day nineteen Eighty-three now tonight, we're targeting Chicago's all time record low of twenty seven below. We will see this cold wave begin the ease tomorrow afternoon, we'll break above zero by late in the day and above zero on the wind chill late tomorrow night. But there's snow in the trade off at an eighty degree temperature increase looms between tomorrow morning and the fifty two that we're forecasting with rain by next Monday tonight. The wind chill warning continues. In fact, through one. O'clock tomorrow. Scattered clouds stinging west wins. Brutal and dangerous wind chills. Thirty five to forty five below a thermometer. Low of twenty seven below expected overnight Thursday, the brutal chill continues to temperatures break. A few degrees above zero in the afternoon. Increasing cloudiness some snow possible late in the day high tomorrow three above with wind chills. Easing two zero to ten below in the afternoon, thirsty snow likely several inches possible. Five below then rising to ten above and Friday. Snow ends some cloud breaks by after noun high twenty three so not as cold shattered, mostly cloudy, windy, still milder. A few after noon, rain showers and thirty nine and Sunday, cloudy, windy, mild, some rain and a high up to forty six on Sunday. I'm Tom skilling and the WGN weather shedder right now O'Hare fourteen below midway thirteen below Oaklawn thirteen below the winds blowing from the west and sixteen miles an hour. The barometer is rising along the lakefront twelve below the wind chill. Thirty eight below. I'm Kim Gordon.

"Allante seven twenty WGN big show plant. Today's very special visitor care county is going to be after five we're gonna talk about new laws in Illinois. We're going to talk to Ryan burrow and just a little bit about the good statistics coming out of the Chicago police department today. So we'll get to all of that will find out how everybody enjoyed their New Year's Eve. But since we're getting a little late start because of the Blackhawks we are going to go right to our good friend. Mr. Tom skilling who is working hard to get ready for television this afternoon, Tom happy new year. I happy new year. Brian. I know you are up against up against it with TV. But I'm glad you joined us, and we won't keep you. We won't keep you too long. Ryan, it's always a pleasure to talk to you. Did you have good New Year's Eve? It was very low key. Thank you for asking. We've got some. We've got a pizza. We played some we bowling, and we watched a movie, so you know, that sounds like a pretty appealing New Year's Eve to me. It was very nice how by the way, Brian. I that's a heck of an open. You've got there. That's well, we try to change it up every day. Thank you, Tom. All right. So what did you do after you got off from TV last night? Well, I did I less exciting than what? I I drove home turned on the TV for a few minutes to Z what I'd Mr. in the day and went to bed, and so not very you didn't make it to midnight. No, I did. But you know, I talked to Bill Schneider filled in for us on rush street. Yeah. He went to fact, he told me he's just coming in right now. So good good. See there have to be people like that. Keep us the ground us in remind us what it's like to be young and vibrant truth. Well, Bryan, we were well represented there you go. And if you believe that I've got some cheap land for. I know Bill is is very responsible for. Sure. Yes. Now, I must commend you. Because yesterday when we spoke I was sitting in the clouds, and we talked about what would it clear up for the fireworks? Yeah. By the time by the time, we left here. It was it was clear in the fireworks went off without a hitch. It's true. And gosh, there's some amazing shots of the fireworks. Last night, our friend berry Butler who is such a. Photographer isn't he heated these time exposures of the fireworks going off? And I noticed Andrea darlas posted it on her Facebook page. I I grabbed it and did the same thing. I it's just what have seen, but I couldn't help. But thank thank goodness. That feeling that we were talking about lifted. Yes. So that's good began wouldn't want to miss that. No. It was you know, we had the the navy pier. Fireworks and the new fireworks along the river and everything everything went off without a hitch. It wasn't too wasn't too cold. There wasn't. It was was an all right. New Year's Eve weatherwise. It's true. And what a contrast with a year ago, Brian. I it's incredible. Folks, have sent me pictures of ice on the lake last year, and you know, plants encased in ice on this date a year ago. The high was one above the lowest nine below isn't that something that's amazing? And today we were a daytime high was twenty nine the official low was thirty four. At midnight. So we've kind of been dropping slowly during the day. But you go to western Minnesota coach where they have all the snow on the ground the wake of two different blizzards in just a week's time. They wind chills. Under thirty below this morning and nighttime lows. It went well below zero. So we're doing relatively speaking. All right now, we're getting we've been getting a lot of rain, which is unusual for this time of year. Is that something that's going to continue? You know, we we did we closed the fourth wettest year in two thousand eighteen that's that's quite an accomplishment whenever we have one hundred and thirty eight years records one hundred forty eight years records. You know, there is a Tennessee for this. The parallel a little dryer right now because we're gonna get into Pacific air. And it looks like the next storm which come out later in the week will be passing well, south of us. So if you're down in southern Illinois or downstate areas in the mid west by the Ohio river, you'll get some moisture, but that that's not going to get up. Here. Fact after another dismal day tomorrow of clouds and flurries, I think the shuttle come out on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we ought to have some sun part of the day. But we start an extended period of above normal temperatures and actually today called as was given. The fact we're holding these nighttime temps up with all the clouds. This will be the twenty second day above normal. But it it gives you an idea how cold. Gotten this time of the year. This was an above normal day for all of us who who might have a pension for complaining, we do need to remember that it will. Now, it's January and. Gets very very cold. That's true. So this is this is good news. Even though we are still.

"What happened to your income to work? Yeah. I picked up another job and the overtime overtime to OT. What do y'all do for a living? I'm an occupational therapist at a skilled nursing facility. Okay. So I have a sales in tech support position. Go there. Okay. And lots and lots of. Overtime availabilities. Okay. Very cool. What kind of debt was the fifty eight thousand student loan? Every bit of it was likely Sally. Yeah. Oh, ugly salad. Oh my gosh. Kick her out in the street. I love it. Good for you. So how long have you been out of school eight years? And so what happened all of a sudden because like two years ago something happened? I started looking at my kids, and I was like, well, maybe we should start saving for them and stop paying for mine. It's all yours. Well, both of ours. Okay. All right really started at about one hundred forty eight years ago. Whittling it down. But you're just sick and tired of it. Follow your plan. We followed it kind of half way more than Davis plan leading up to that. But two years we're refinance the house fifteen year followed it step by step. And. What happened? What was the conversation of the thing that happened that move you from ish to really doing it? I think you started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I felt like it was doable of our says just something that we could never accomplish. Which that ok p intense. I mean, you can run a half marathon or marathon and then still sprint to the finish. At that. Last hundred yards. You've still got a little gas in your tank and so seeing the finish can cause you to get into it. Absolutely. Yes. Okay. That's kind of what happened then. So what is the secret to getting out of debt? What do you tell people when they say, you paid off all your debt when you say, you pay off your debts, and they had you do that. Well, I think we first started to start to budget together in really get both parties involved all in. I was a little bit more the early on. And then I started to really look at the number, and then we got really focus. So we used every dollar and we're all in. Yeah. When she went and got her second job started working that. And then I was like, well, I can't let her do that on her own. So then I started working as much overtime as possible as well. Okay. All right. And she got involved in the budgeting. So I'm the spender and definitely if the the narrow gets involved heavily, it, it definitely goes a lot further if the saver get involved in both of you work on it. There's just accountability. Absolutely. That was the other thing I was gonna say keeping each other accountability accountable. Yeah. We also made a vision board. And so we had like chain. We really got the kiddos involved. We we take links off our change to have have them involved in they loved it. Okay. Cool. So how'd you guys? Get connected. My dad, Don. Absolutely. He's Bank fan. Yeah. So when you kicked it into gear two years ago, he was your leader. Absolutely. Yup. We had books reading. You're you're on fire. Our church did financial peace. We went there went through it twice. So just keep involved. I think the other thing was we we listen to podcasts. I'm YouTube live that our kids. Learn your phone number before they learned ours..
