A highlight from Ep402: Turn Expectation Into Appreciation

"If you have five listeners and you're grateful for those five listeners and be able to serve them every single week or every single day, but you're sitting there grateful that you can serve these five people, you have a lower expectation and a higher amount of gratitude. You're going to be happy. Most hosts never achieved the results they hoped for. They're falling short on listenership and monetization, meaning their message isn't being heard and their show ends up costing them money. This podcast was created to help you grow your listenership and make money while you're at it. Get ready to take notes. Here's your host, Adam Adams. This week I saw a reel on social media. I don't know if they're called reels or stories or what, but this week I saw one and it was profound, if you will. It was an author of a book who was talking about how people become unhappy. Like, what is it that makes you an unhappy person? And he started talking about basically the dynamic between two different things. And I can't quote him and I'm not going to take credit for it, but unfortunately I'm not going to quote him. I don't remember where it was or how to find it. Anyway, he talked about the difference between our expectations and our gratitude. And he basically says like, we're extremely happy people if we have very low expectations and very high gratitude. And we're still happy if we have high expectations, so long as our gratitude is a little bit bigger. And we're still still happy when our gratitude is not very high, but our expectations are even smaller. What is the point? What is the common ground here? The common ground is when you are more grateful than you have expectations, then you're going to be happy. And this I know goes into many, many forms of your life, your podcast. If you have an expectation of I want a million listeners, and then you have a hundred thousand people listening, you're going to be like, I need 10 times that, and you're going to be crying. You're going to be sad. You're going to be depressed. Why? The reason why is because your expectation was set pretty high and your gratitude wasn't there. Now, if, for example, you have five listeners and you're as grateful as heck for those five listeners and be able to serve them every single week or every single day, depending on how often you publish your podcast, but you're sitting there grateful that you can serve these five people. You have a lower expectation and a higher amount of gratitude. You're going to be happy. Now I want to talk a little bit about our title today is turn your expectation into appreciation, turn the expectation into appreciation. So again, if your appreciation or your gratitude is high and your expectations are low, you're going to be great. So when you're dating somebody, you want to have a low expectation. Like if you're thinking, oh, I'm going to get lucky tonight, for example. And you don't, well, maybe you're going to be depressed and maybe you're going to think that it was a bad date. I don't know who you are or what you think, but just let's just use that as an example. Let's say that you are the type of person who definitely wants to get married. And you're with somebody who doesn't want to get married. And the thing that you think is, man, I don't have everything that I want. I don't have everything I want. I expect this. I expect marriage or whatever. You're going to be ungrateful and you're going to have high expectations. So are you going to be happy or sad? You're going to be sad. Let's look at all those people that complain all the time. Think about somebody that, you know, maybe it's more than one person that, you know, but just maybe even close your eyes. If it's safe, think about somebody who is always complaining. Well, that person has their gratitude level is way too low. They need to start freaking appreciating some shit. Don't they need to start looking at the world and seeing how great the world is. Now there is optimists and there's pessimists and you might say, no, I'm neither. I'm a realist. I assume you probably are thinking that you're a realist because everybody says that they're a realist, but really they're either an optimist or a pessimist. And so if you're looking at things and you're always looking at the bright side of stuff, you're probably going to be more grateful. You're going to be happy about any situation. So that means your expectation about things is probably not too high. It might be high and it might be low. That part doesn't matter. What matters is, is that your gratitude level or your appreciation is higher. So when I was years ago and of course, five ish years ago, I started turning this around. I was the father and sometimes it makes me cry to think about this, but I was that dad who had my kids and they always wanted to show me stuff. They were like, dad, look at this. Look what I built. Look what I made. Look what I drew. Look what I can do with my marbles. And I'll be honest, like my expectation was probably too high because they were really young. They were really, really, really young back then. And I was like, okay, you put a piece of wood on and the marble just rolls off and you think that's cool. That's not that cool. And I didn't say it to their face. I wasn't saying that, but I'm thinking like, okay, wow, good job. And here I am being like, man, I just wish I could work more. If I just didn't have my kids and I could really make a lot of money and it's just too bad this. And I was the pessimist. I was the person who had higher expectations. I wanted to be a multimultimillionaire and I didn't have a high enough gratitude. I thought my kids were holding me back. And what ended up happening is I got fat. I got lazy. I got overweight. I got angry. I yelled at the kids. Our relationship got weak because I had low gratitude. Then I turned around and I started practicing gratitude in the morning. So I would end in it and in night and anytime I was stressed. So there was three times that I had to practice gratitude before I got a bad out, before I got out of bed, when I got in bed, before I went to sleep. And a lot of people do this with prayer. Now I don't pray, but I try to express gratitude. I try to have a relationship with God or the universe or nature or many gods or who knows, but I try to spend that time to be grateful. And so in five years ago, as I record this, I came to a day that somebody said, you need to start practicing gratitude. And I did. And my relationship got better and everything else got better. My health got better. I started making more money, et cetera. The points that we're trying to make is I need you to also turn your expectation into appreciation, because when you do that, you're going to have a better chance of actually being happy. And if you're happy, what's going to happen? Your health will be better. Your relationships will be better. Your business will be better and your podcast will be better. So this doesn't only apply to your podcast. This doesn't only apply to yourself. This applies to all of the family that you're around, all of the relationships that you have, business relationships, loving relationships, romantic relationships, family relationships. It's going to increase that because you express some gratitude. Now, I'm not saying that you're going to turn into this optimist that's always being like, oh, everything's great all the time. I'm not saying you have to be like unreal about it. I'm just saying that when you look at the bright side, when you count your blessings, when you see where some people are, maybe you have to think about a different country, maybe you have to think about human trafficking. Who knows what you have to think about? You have a shit ton of things that you should be very, very grateful for. And when you bring your gratitude level above your expectation level, everything else will fall into line. Looking forward to seeing you on the next episode. Don't go anywhere. I'll see you there. Oh, hey, because three of my clients came to me recently looking to find a way to have their podcast make the money instead of cost them money, we put together a resource for some of our clients. And I want to give it to you as well. It's something that did actually seem to help because one of them is now making twenty six hundred a month. Another one forty five hundred a month. And the third is making between five thousand and ten thousand each month. And so it's been a resource that's been incredibly valuable to them. It's our sponsor sheet template. It's a template of a sponsor sheet and it gives you something that you can hand to potential sponsors and hopefully also be making twenty six hundred forty five hundred or between five and ten K regularly each month with your podcast. So this has been a contributing factor to helping all three of those clients turn their podcast into an additional income stream for them. And the way that you can find it is just going to our website, growyourshow .com, but put in forward slash templates, growshow .com forward slash templates, and then you can actually download that template and others that could be valuable to your podcasting experience. I'll see you on the next episode.

With profits at industrial companies rising at a much slower pace in month of the October than we saw the month before. And as we're talking about a ceasefire a temporary one extending for whatever period of time again reportedly now uh... an extra two days being tacked on to what was a four day ceasefire. Netanyahu has said repeatedly that at the end of this the war will continue. The fighting will continue. He is going to keep going until Hamas is eliminated. And you've got to be careful and cautious of the energy level that you come to town with, come to the podcast with. Most hosts never achieve the results they hoped for. They're falling short on listenership and monetization, meaning their message isn't being heard and their show ends up costing them money. This podcast was created to help you grow your listenership and make money while you're at it. Get ready to take notes. Here's your host, Adam Adams. What's up, podcaster? It is your host, Adam A. Adams. And today we've got something good that we want to share with you that is going to help you. And it is about your energy level. I've got a brand new podcast client. They've been a client for more than two months, and their podcast is about to launch. When you launch a podcast with us, by the way, it takes time. And I need to share that with you now. And then I'll get into the energy level that I was going to talk about with this one podcasting client in mind. And here's the thing is the energy level that you come to your podcast with, I don't know if you remember recent episode called The Thermostat and the Thermometer, where you can either read the temperature or you can dictate the temperature. In this case, you want to dictate the temperature. So you're, again, being the thermostat, the energy level. And let me say that side note thing real quick to get it out of my head so I can move on is it takes a little bit of time when you go ready, fire aim, and you just launch a shitty podcast and you don't give a crap who listens to it. That's what's going to happen. You don't know if you're going to get any listeners and you're just busting it out there, throwing it out without a care, without making sure that all of the things are in place. That's what most people do. 90 % of podcasters really just go ready, fire aim. Somehow, some way somebody learned ready, fire aim, and then they started everybody keeps repeating it and taking completely out of context. Ready, fire aim doesn't mean do something badly. It means start taking action on a thing. It doesn't mean get things going and recorded and published that are shit. It's not asking you to please have bad quality because that's better than having good quality because you did something. No, no, no, no, no. Ready, fire aim is just about taking action, massive action. It doesn't mean to publish bad stuff. It means to take the time to understand, to start working on it, to start learning now, to start connecting with the team that's going to help you now. This is ready, fire aim in its real raw old thing as I understand it. It is for you to take the action, but it doesn't mean to make it crap. It's not what it's saying. So anyway, going to the energy level. Oh man, I am all over the place today. So what am I saying is if you want to start a podcast that is bad, you can just do whatever you want. You don't have to listen to this podcast. You don't have to hire a company to support you. You can just put out the bad stuff automatically and you'll have the podcast and maybe you'll be your only listener. It'll be a diary or a journal. It won't be a real podcast because you got to go ready, aim, fire. You got to spend some time getting behind it. And that's all I meant is some people are surprised that it of podcast another company where they could launch it in a weekend. You're going to come into this two day seminar. You're going to come in on Saturday, not at all knowing what you want to do. And on Sunday, your podcast is published. There's not enough time. That is a recipe for crap. That is a recipe for bad stuff. So something that you don't want to do. You want to spend some time and effort to make it good. So I'll say that now. That's why I said this is a brand new client and they're just starting to launch, finally launching. And it's been a couple of months. They've been working with us. They've been recording episodes. We've been editing them. We've been cutting out on Ums and Us. We've been making sure that we know who the avatar is. We did a really good job with the artwork and we started recording episodes and now it's time to launch. And now it's getting ready to time to launch as I'm listening to some of the first episodes. This is what happened. The music that he picked was so energetic. It had such a high energy level. And not only that, but the voiceover artists. So his music is original theme music. When you launch with my company, we hire real composers to create original theme music. So we did that. And it takes time to things right. And we hired a voiceover artist to record with that music to record the introduction, the 20ish seconds, 15 second intro that the podcast begins with. We chose female voiceover artists between the client and me going back and forth. We decided that even though he's a guy, he should have a female voiceover artist. So here's the thing. The music is exciting. The voiceover artist is perfect. She has an energy level above average. She's inviting. She's warm. She's friendly. She's even a little flirtatious, like in a way that's not off -putting to anyone, but a way that you just, I really like this person. This person seems like a good person. I want to be around them because they seem friendly. They seem happy. They seem excited about the content and they seem smart. It's just how it feels when you listen to this voiceover artist and remember the energy level of the music way up here, the energy level of the introduction by the female voiceover artist way up here, the engagement level on those things. It's like, you're getting excited. And then my client came in on the first two episodes, which are being replaced. The first couple of episodes, he came in, like you hear all this excitement and he's this. And basically it was like, as if he was a late night DJ. Have you heard of a late night DJ? Some of you might be so young. You don't really know what FM and AM radio is. You don't recall what these things are. You never experienced it. You always had wifi and Bluetooth and phones that could hold like thousands of songs. And that's not the case for all of us. For some of us, we didn't have those things. We're old enough to remember when we had to fine tune a big giant radio dial until it hit the exact right mark to tune in to a station from far, far away. And we recall that with these radio stations at night, the DJ spoke a little bit differently. They weren't trying to be your friend anymore. They were trying to stay out of the way so that you wouldn't have to get woken up by their introduction or their music or what they're saying to you. So it was very soothing. It was very calming. And you could actually sleep through this. I used to listen to this classical music. Actually, it's funny, random listening to classical music right now in the other room. And then it's funny. I haven't listened to classical in a while, but I used to compose music and I love it. I love classical. Anyone who knows me from junior high and high school knows that practically the only thing that I would listen to is Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart. Those are my three favorites. Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and Pachelbel. I like Canon and D. But anyway, getting back on track, I would listen to classical music on something. I don't remember it was 98. It was 89 .1. It doesn't matter. It was late night station that I would sleep to. And I always appreciated that the DJs had their late night voice. I was like, I'm so glad that this guy or the girl wasn't waking me up with their energy, with their higher level of energy. They were chill and they were calm. And they would mention the next song that was coming on and they would do it in a tone like this and they would do it in an energy like this so that it wouldn't really disrupt me while I was sleeping. I don't love it when you record your podcast episode with a late night DJ voice, unless you're specifically trying to help people sleep. That's the case. Do it. I love it now. But for most of the people that would listen to this podcast, they're going to be people with normal, good energy level. They're going to be optimistic and excited about life. And you've got to be careful and cautious of the energy level that you come to town with, come to the podcast with and record with because it can be bad to go above and beyond like it can be bad if you're so over the top, so above average that people wonder if it's even real. People wonder if this is a fake. How can this guy really be this way? How can this girl really be this way? They're hiding something. Why are they so happy? Nobody's that happy. And so you could get some criticism by coming too high of a getting some criticism. You could also turn off your perfect avatar who needs you by going way too above and beyond, way too excitable. That could actually turn people off as well or being the monotone late night DJ voice, the Eeyore, if you will, going to maybe turn other people off as well. So you want to fine tune it. And we've talked about this multiple times on the podcast, but not in this way. In the way that I'm delivering it with you now, it's a little bit different. The energy is a little bit different. My thoughts on it are a little bit different. My analogies are a little bit different, but it still goes to show the part that stays the same is A, you got to focus on your energy. You have to understand your energy. B, you need to come in with the same energy level as your intro. That's your music and your voiceover artist. You got to come in with the same. And finally, you want to stay somewhere in the six to eight numbers. So if five is average and one is just completely dead and two is barely alive and three is Eeyore and four is just slightly below average, five being average, six being about what I'm giving you right now. I am giving you mostly a six or a seven, sometimes maybe an eight right now. And then there's 10, which is like, we'll even say there's an 11. 11 is above and beyond, like way over the top. 10 is your most excited level. And it's probably too much. It's probably too loud. And nine is a little step back, but probably still too much. So it's really that six, seven, eight, that's going to get you the best results for you, the energy level. So let's go back to number two. And that is to imitate, to copy, to mimic or to mirror the level of energy that your introduction comes in with. How do we do this? Well, for this client, what I mentioned to him, and I was like, bro, you know, I love you, right? He's been a friend for a lot longer than he's been a client. I go, bro, you know, I love you, right? And he's like, yeah, what is it? I know you're going to say something. I'm like, I just want to make sure that you got it with love is that the energy of your music on point. It is an eight energy of your voiceover artist. Great. She's giving an eight energy. And then you're coming in with a four and it sounds like something changed. It immediately confuses us. Also, we just noticed that you don't seem excited because when we get you next to those eights, it comes down. And so I gave him three options. I said, brother, going to give you three options. I sound like I'm from Scotland going to give you three options. I don't know if I'm doing a good accent for Scottish, but I do have some Scottish blood going back to my clients. I want to give them three options. They said, I'm going to give you three options. Option number one is that we take down, redo the music and the voiceover artist so that they are coming in with a five and a half or six so that you can come in with a four or five. And people aren't going to notice it so much. I said option number two, we can leave the voiceover artist. We can leave the music because you chose it. You said you liked it. You said it was perfect for your avatar so we can leave it. But you've got to at least start out your podcast and hear me out. If you're listening to this episode, this is a part to listen to and to write down and pay attention to. I said this to him as well. If those are coming out at an eight, you've got to start at an eight. You've got to come in and be like, what's up? It's blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It's John Stockton. It's Adam Adams. It's Carl Carlson. It's Sarah Saracen. Is that a real name? Sarah Saracen. John Johnson, Carl Carlson, Swen Swenson and Sarah Saracen. Sarah Saratops. I'll say that. You come in at the same level. What I told him is you've got to listen to the intro music prior to recording. You've got to listen to your voiceover artist prior to recording. You have to have around that same level. Now, once you establish that level, you can slowly move up and down through the podcast and it will be fine. I said option number three. Option number three is the hardest option, the most challenging, difficult option, but you might want to do it. He's like, what is that? What's option number three? And my response is that option number three is we leave the music, the original theme music and the intro by the voiceover artist. In this case, a woman. We leave those where they are. You still listen to them prior to recording to make sure you're matching and mirroring, copying and imitating and not going too far above or beyond. But you also, instead of partway through your podcast, letting your tonality and your emotion go way below, you would maintain it and constantly you would maybe even write a six or a seven, six, seven or eight on your wall behind your recording. And this would allow you to always say, I've got it throughout the whole episode. I've got to be cordial. I've got to be friendly. I've got to be warm and inviting and flirtatious and helpful and excited and passionate about what I'm talking about, because those are the things that bring your people to you. It's your energy. It's how you come across. Don't forget it. Maintain that energy level at a six, seven or eight, especially if you've got music and a voiceover artist. You want to make sure that you are matching that when at least when you launch or going back to option number one. If you can't do any of that, it will be OK for you to record music that's at a four or five and an intro that's at a four or five if you really need to be at a three, four or five, because then it won't be so drastic. It'll be flow a little bit better. But I need to say again, it's still better to come in a little above average, not over the top, but a little above average at a level six, seven or eight. Got an interview episode coming up. Don't go away. This one was short. I'll see you on the next episode. Oh, hey, because three of my clients came to me recently looking to find a way to have their podcast make the money instead of cost them money. We put together a resource for some of our clients and I want to give it to you as well. It's something that did actually seem to help because one of them is now making twenty six hundred a month. Another one forty five hundred a month. And the third is making between five thousand and ten thousand each month. And so it's been a resource that's been incredibly valuable to them. It's our sponsor sheet template. It's a template of a sponsor sheet and it gives you something that you can hand to potential sponsors and hopefully also be making twenty six hundred, forty five hundred or between five and ten K regularly each month with your podcast.

A highlight from 1237. Black Dog Syndrome - Using Pets To Teach Anti-Bullying

"Celebrating the connection with our pets this is Animal Radio featuring your dream team veterinarian Dr. Debbie White and groomer Joey Vellani and here are your hosts Hal Abrams and Judy Francis. Okay I want you to look into your wallets or your phone either one right now and if all of the pictures in there are of your cat or your dog or your ferret or whatever animal you have you found the right show this is it Animal Radio. We're all just as crazy about our animals as you are and we have Dr. Vitts crazy like over the we're certified we're lucky to have a radio show but they said animals why not you know few of us have animals in fact about 68 percent of households have animals and if you don't what are you waiting for the shelters are just waiting for you to come on down and meet some beautiful animals that will capture your hearts and you can take them home with you and have a brand new forever friend. I just kind of sort of went off on a tangent there. Yeah you did Hal and I was thinking how wonderful that was beautiful. So we're going to go to the phones here we have Dr. Debbie to answer all those vet medical questions we have dog father Joey Vellani who's a groomer extraordinary you've seen him on Animal Planet's Dogs 101 and groomer has it and he you know we thought that you didn't need to groom an animal until he came on board and we realized what we were really missing out on how well our animal could look if we gave it a little attention. Regular grooming. So if you want to talk to either one of them it's free of charge directly from the animal radio app for iPhone and Android and Blackberry it's a free download thanks to those folks over at Doctors Foster's and Smith and the great thing about the app is not only can you ask the questions you can listen to any show you want animal radio show the Andy Griffith show is not on there yet and but you could also browse the deep resources we have lots of resources for you and news that's important for you so if there's a recall of a certain food and you need to know about it you'll know about it through the animal radio app so we make fun about it but it's an important app to have and as I've said before it's so important I've actually downloaded it twice I have to have it twice on my phone wow you don't have to do that I'm just asking you to download it once hey Jim how you doing great where you calling from today well right now I'm in Rowland Heights Rowland Heights right is that the LA area Los Angeles area well yeah it's east of LA okay so what's going on with your animals I have the entire dream team here for you well it's kind of a weird situation I have a 17 year old in their cat has been indoor ever since my girlfriend and her son got it okay the outdoor cat I rescued it it was growing up in a while somebody dumped it off and for about a year year and a half or so it was living with raccoons oh my and then there was a couple other couple other people I guess were jumping cats off and how this cat got the one I have now got caught in a cage and went went berserk it got got an affection and hearing a society out in Pomona California and so I went down and I rescued it I nursed it back to health and it's the most horrible cat that you have ever seen Wow it's on the bed on the pillows or always tries to bathe me oh that's wonderful so what's going on with these guys Jim what's your problem well I see bumps every now and then I don't see fleas or ticks or anything and they haven't been scratching up like a zoo okay all right do they have any sores on their bodies well I see bumps I can feel bumps but when I look it could be sores but I think it's from them scratching or biting or picking on themselves okay all righty so if we see little small bumps or feel them on cats especially if they're kind of like if you look at them closely they might be a little pink almost like a pimple and sometimes they'll have a scab on them then then that can be a condition we call miliary dermatitis and it's miliary little bumps dermatitis can happen from a lot of different reasons in cats the number one thing that causes it is flea allergy dermatitis so that's always the number one thing on my list when I hear of kitties that have these little bumps usually around the neck the head sometimes on the chest but also along the back there are some other causes of that as well and that might be things like a bacterial infection allergies or food allergies and even things like ringworm so cats don't always have to get ringworm with like a hair loss like a person does they can actually get these little bumps so since you do have a kitty going outside I'm gonna say number one thing we need to focus on is flea control and the funny thing that I always have this conversation with folks about cats and a lot of folks will say oh I never see fleas or any evidence of fleas on my cat and that's because in many cases cats are doing what they do best they groom and they groom themselves really well so we can't count on seeing evidence of fleas on cats if we're in an area that has fleas and especially with having one going outside we really need to treat appropriately with that and that might be a combination of a oral product such as comfortus along with a topical product on a regular monthly basis so that is by far the number one thing I'm doing for both cats the other thing and if we do have fleas to realize is if you have that one cat going outside we're gonna struggle we are gonna struggle hard to control fleas and any resulting skin side effects because of that so if we're really concerned about getting this on under control we'll try to keep the outdoor cat indoors for about a month's time so we can really do our best to try to get the flea control under our belts there but then you know this would be something if you haven't already taken the babies to the vet you know we we'd want to do that and just make sure we don't have something like ringworm and check to see if we need to be on an antibiotic or if they do see fleas sometimes we'll use a bit of a steroid just to help decrease the itch so we don't have so much self trauma as a result of the itch because dogs cats they can have flea allergy dermatitis which means they are reasonably itchy from the bite of the flea from the saliva so it doesn't have to be that that we have tons of fleas it could be one flea and if you have an allergic pet they are just going crazy from that itch so that's when we'll often use things like you know prednisone or other types of steroids just to help kind of quiet down that reaction there as far as you know them bathing themselves you know looking and and and all that you know well I guess what you call washing your body or something they always do that through all day long yeah yeah that's normal I mean kitties they are fastidious creature so you know it is really their job to keep that hair coat looking good and if something offending is there they're gonna get it out of there so yeah that's why you know they may just be doing a really good job of that so so you got a little bit of work there Jim but you know work with your veterinarian and see about getting the right treatment and the right products so you know this is something I definitely like to work with my clients because some of the topicals alone aren't going to give us the quickest relief especially with the allergy dermatitis we got to use some of these quick kill type products and many of them are the oral forms right yeah I tried it for a while and I wasn't sure if I was helping it or not and to me it didn't seem like it made a difference you tried what I missed the front line he tried frontline so we're talking about some of the oral so this is different medicines these are medicines that you you take internally is that correct right right and there's you know there's not every topical is created equal so we prefer to have a topical that if possible has a quick kill if not that's when we pull out the oral medications cap star come forward us and a lot of these they will kill those fleas so quickly but if your cat's going outside they're gonna get reinvested so that's where keeping them indoors just to get a handle on things can be very helpful for the initial stages of trying to treat this I applaud you you're doing something right Jim we got that 17 year old hat so give those babies a hug and a little scratch and thanks so much for your call all right take care Jim we appreciate it yeah we have Nike the studio cat and it just takes one flea bite and he is yeah his whole body gets covered with sores and the comfort has worked very well for us and a steroid shot that day when we discovered that cleared him up fast if you happen to have a Yorkshire terrier shih tzu a pug or a mini schnauzer did you know did you know our very own talented doctor Debbie has written books called how to be your dog's best friends about these breeds right here and I'm gonna try to convince her to work on some other breeds but if you have one of these right now you definitely want to have this Guardians manual available as Kindle books over at amazon .com and of course we have links over at animal radio .com are there any natural holistic treatments for fleas I mean I get tired of searching for one well like all the old old wives things like garlic really don't work as far as like the skin so soft you can do that in a diluted spray and that can be one thing you can use trying to think holistic isn't my forte I just feel so bad dumping a chemical on my cat skin or dog you know and I'm with you on that I really am because I spilt I accidentally spilt some of that front liner advantage and it splattered on my keyboard on my computer and it ate a little hole right where it splattered you think of all the different types of products and if you put them on a plastic which is plastic is just not a normal substance wait but you would put something on skin that would eat away at plastic I just don't know I I I'm having a hard time with that doc well there's different carriers and such within those products which may not necessarily be causing a problem but will on plastic and yeah can cause a surface change so hmm okay by the same token I used to I did find a natural one one time in the store and this was many moons ago at least ten years ago and but it was like a clove oil and something else and and it was way too strong I tested it on my own inner arm first and it burned my skin so I wasn't gonna put it on my cat either well this portion of animal radio is underwritten by fear -free happy That will leave GM and Ford to fight for second with place about 14 % each, followed by Stellantis at 8%. In New York, Charlie Pellet, Bloomberg Daybreak. Alright Charlie, thanks. Well, let's turn to the economy now. The government issues data on labor the market amid signs the U .S. economy is losing steam. And we get more from Bloomberg's Vinnie Dal Judice. US jobless claims will probably remain near a two -year high. A recent surge sent initial ...claims claims unemployment assistance to $262 ,000, and it's held there for two weeks. At the same job openings remain at historic highs. That's providing a cushion of sorts. Also on today's U .S. economic agenda, the index of leading economic indicators, a gauge of the economic outlook. It's been negative for more than a year. Also on tap, data on existing home sales. Vinnie Dal Judice, Bloomberg Daybreak. Okay, Vinnie, you. thank And following the data, investors' focus will be back on Capitol Hill for day two of Jay Powell's testimony on monetary policy. On day one, the Fed chairman told the House Financial Services Committee to expect more rate hikes even after the central bank put them on hold last week. Much as you might do if you were to be driving you 75 miles an hour on the highway, then 50 miles an hour on a local highway, and then as you get get closer to your destination as you try to find that destination, you slow down even further. And that was Chairman Powell before the House Financial Services Committee yesterday. Interesting numbers put out there when it comes to the mileage. While we get you ready for day two before the Senate Banking Committee, we're joined live this morning by Yelena Shoyetschova, senior U .S. economist at BNP Paribas. Great to speak with you again, Yelena. Did Chairman Powell deliver the message clearly for you? Hi, Nathan. Absolutely. I think he actually echoed the message from his last week's FOMC press conference and that message sounded balanced to us, not necessarily hawkish, even though he did leave a tightening bias in his remarks, but he sounded a bit more balanced in terms of the economy and the future path of monetary policy. He said, well, consumer spending is still strong, but businesses are feeling the impact of higher interest rates and the market labor is coming back into balance. Again, this word balance, I think, is really important and that supports our projection for interest rates to be approaching the terminal rate, which we expect just 25 basis points away from where we are right now. Hearing that from a lot of analysts that 25 basis points more may be the end goal for the Fed, how do you square that with the Fed? Sort hinting of that maybe two more rate hikes could be in store before the end of the year. Well, Fed? He also he said it will be very much data dependent, right? So, we heard that from them a thousand times and another for yesterday. Raphael Bostic actually said something that I think is very important and deserves close attention. So, he noted that he, by the way, he's in the camp expecting no more rate hikes. And one of the reasons for that is that in inflation adjusted terms, interest rates are going to rise, even though they're not going to rise as much in nominal terms. So, what it means is that tightening will still be happening even if the Fed pauses. So, the impact on the economy will continue throughout the they slow down or pause. So, is the chairman going to have to they're not going you're from figures like Raphael Bostic that maybe now is the time to keep rates where they're not going it's not going to rise. And there are hawks on the committee and there are doves and he has to absolutely relate the message from all sides of the committee and that one is a balanced one, as I suggested, that tightening bias remains in in place, but they will go very cautiously meeting by meeting. And again, I I think the skip was prudent at the June meeting but they may hike at the July meeting. And just just quickly, is a soft landing still a scenario that's possible for you? Not in our the stars align and something a rate happens. It's still possible. The path is very narrow. Unfortunately, we expect a recession still to come as a result of a slowdown in economic growth and, you know, the impact on the labor market. Okay. Yelena Shoyetova. Great to have you back to rise. So, you have to have a senior US economist at BNP Paribas as we get ready for round two of Capitol Hill testimony for Chairman Powell. We'll be sitting before the Senate Banking Committee just after 10 a .m. Wall Street time. We'll be bringing you coverage later on this morning here on Bloomberg Radio. Ahead of that, futures are pointing to a lower open, a modestly lower with S &P futures down five points now. Dow futures down 45. NASDAQ futures down 23 points. That's a drop of about a tenth of one percent across the board for the futures contracts. You're listening to Bloomberg Daybreak. Thank you. The Three Most Important Charts in the Market

"We kick off a new trading month with the three most important charts in the market at least according to our traders. Let's get right to you. Then i up the iwan russell. Two thousand small-cap etf guy this is your chart. Tell us what it tells you about. The markets well. I'm not one to speak in platitudes. But i love these games at the beginning of months and i happen to think that the i. Wm is as an important to chart was. We're gonna look at you. Go back to last. September twenty twenty. The russell was explode into the upside is a matter of fact. I think it went from one. Forty five to two fifteen pretty much in a straight line but since january it's been going sideways in a very well defined range in a two ten to two thirty five and here. We are now the great louise yomata who is as you know. She's on the parthenon of great technicians. Out there she will say the longer in space the higher and outer space. And i think a lot bowls will believe that as well. It feels like it wants a breakouts. The upside i bring it up because as you know the most economically sensitive names believe it or not. Amc the top holding with half of one percent. Healthcare big component financials industrials and tech. But this has not validated the move and the snp five hundred the russell to break out sort of above two thirty five. Then it's off to the races and the s&p five hundred. That's why i find it to be the most important chart or one of the three. Considering that this is a quote that we often refer to on the show guy given by a person who we regard so highly as to put her on the pantheon of technical now analysts. It's amazing that you've got the quote wrong the longer the base the higher in space the long does exactly what i said higher in space. That's what you said. The thought is their thought. Is there what do you think about the wm. As as a chart that that could portend what what will happen in the markets so yeah. I like guys premise. And obviously i'd been in value. And i probably a little too deep in value to be honest because it did have a nice run.

Is Hurricane Ida the Result of Climate Change?

"You might remember a few weeks back. We told you about a landmark report from the un's intergovernmental panel on climate change. It warned that human caused climate change is accelerating and that we're running out of time to avoid its most catastrophic effects and that extreme weather events are more likely as a result right now hurricane can ida is making its dangerous trek towards a us gulf coast hurricane ida is exactly the kind of event that scientists were talking about on saturday evening. Ida was a modest category two storm with one hundred and five mph winds but it's poise to rapidly intensify and that's what it did just as forecasters predicted so hurricane ida has strengthened to a category three storm with winds of one hundred fifteen miles an hour trump saturday night maximum sustained winds of one hundred thirty miles per hour into sunday morning. It's now up to one hundred forty five miles per hour side. A gut stronger by the hour is storm has strengthened yet again. The last time we spoke sustained winds were one forty five. They're now up to one fifty. I wanted to all of this at the storm up to be at. Its most powerful. Just as it made landfall over louisiana bring as much as twenty inches of rain in some areas with the potential for destructive storm surge yesterday so how did i to get so powerful so fast so climate change is basically supercharging storm. That's rebecca hersher correspondent for. Npr's climate team. We spoke on monday. Climate change does is. It adds fuel to hurricane fuel in the form of heat so hurricanes over water you can think of them like engines spinning up like a propeller on a plane and the energy for that propeller comes from the heat in the water as the earth gets hotter because of climate change the water on the surface of the ocean. It also guitar. So there's more energy for storms like ida to get really big and really

"To ucla and lsu. But you got clemson georgia in charlotte. clemson lane three and a half seven on the money. Line georgia. The dogs walk plus one forty on the money. Line sitting at fifty one and a half colby is. I don't know it part of me thinks you take you. Take georgia here. Because you're getting more than three points but part of me likes betting on a guy named big cinco lock going on here with my handicap. And what are you got. I kind of agree when we had phil steele on the show. He said like anything more than a field goal on the other team. Gimme georgia plus the three and a half. I still think. I mean this is a toss up game. There's a high chance whoever wins is going to be my three points that i can get three and a half. Give me Give me give me the bulldogs and three and a half points It is going to be interesting though because like j. J. daniels yes. He played great but In against kinda shitty opponent so. This is going to be as i true. Ambig- cinco got some looks. You know when When lawrence was dealing with the cova there or he was on the list and his. Name's big cinco. I n you daboh. Who just wins games. And and i think this almost to me. It could go both ways for georgia. This is their season like if they don't win this game one. Do they have another opportunity to look at their schedule under the sec championship. Yeah so this is like their season. Which i think is almost too much pressure for a guy like j. t. daniels and clemson's coming in here kinda with not a lot of pressure and because even if they lose this game they can run the table and be in a position in the college football playoff so i think the fact that the pressure is all on georgia as a small dog. I'm going clemson minus three and a half.

Turning Pairs Into Bluffs... Good or Bad?

"Talk about this jackson. Hand here you can. You can dive into the details. Sure so hand starts out with me. The cutoff opening jack off suit this bottom. Mrs like bottom of range is yeah. This is going to be like this is. This is the bottom of my tax all suit officer tax ranch for sure Not opening anything worse than this gets folded around to the big blind to believe is a rag who flats flop queen of spades five spades. Eight of clubs the big blind checks i think see strategy can go lots of different ways especially with the gutter like two overs to middle. I think betting third here is fine with your range. Think this hand can also go in like your big bet categories. Sometimes if you're playing a big bet and check strategy. I decided to check this one. I think i really want to get into details. I think like jackson with a spade. I would certainly Throw into the big bet. Category just the naked gutter. I decided to check back. I just realized yawned. While you were talking. The youtube audience just see sees me yawning. While you're talking about your betting strategy for what it's worth. I spent a whole day watching the braves play in the sun so i need a little bit of a nap. If you're watching me on youtube you can tell like i. Don't get in the son very much. It's pretty clear not that your commentary on your seabed. Strategy is boring on the flop precaution. I'll i'll let you have young. Have one young so you go check the attorneys at ten of diamonds. So you turn second pair now keep going on what happens here on the term big blind Goes with a pretty big thirty five dollars to fifty no way. I'm folding jackson. Here we have the best end if you don't have out to improve just lots and lots of for the big to pull from on this tour to tone on a very straight e board so Don't think i'm going to do anything else. But call with ten. Jack and i mean you need twenty nine percent equity to continue and there's just not a world where you don't have twenty nine percent with your hand against the range so pretty slam dunk easy mode call and now you river. The to pair. The final board is queen of spades five. Spades eight of clubs. Ten of diamonds. Jack of diamonds. So you're ever to pair and villain. Does this little ditty a little bit of an overbid here down light over but hundred twenty five percent about one forty eight and a one twenty one and now i guess. Tell me. tell me your line of thinking here that leads to this thing that you do okay so when i'm really tired so it's going to be a handle on this one. When the villain when villanova richer assuming his range is going to be just straits like nine x four value and a handful of bluffs like brick spades or you know six seven sorts of hands for his bluffs thought that maybe i could get him to fold nine next year. I just jammed given that. I know for fact that like he never has as king and i can certainly have as king Taking this line. The as kenya's for sure that i would check back on the slop and you know calling the bet on the turn once i have choo overs nut. Gutter is pretty reasonable as well. You know what. I'm jamming here like. I'm clearly like trying to like out nine some of the time. I don't know how often that happens. I'm like really praying. He doesn't have canine. That's like a big of a concern. Because i assume you just never ever full king nine. I just ripped it here with two pair trying to get them to fold everything

"Start with another hire move for the market stocks rallying into the close adding to yesterday's gains recouping all of monday's losses and this week's wild swings got our traders flagging some eye-popping moves or traders have come up with the three most ridiculous charts in the markets. We kick it off with the ten year yale falling as low as one point one three percent yesterday morning before rebounding all the way back up to one point three percent guy. This was on your radar and we've been together a long time. I think you realized pretty quickly. I'm not the brightest bulb and the knife dry. You know what i'm saying. But one thing i do know is the biggest economy in the history of the world. Ten year yields the most should be the most liquid security out there. It should not go in my opinion from one. Forty one down one and a quarter back to one forty down to one thirteen up to one thirty all in the course of basically twelve trading days. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Bond volatility is extraordinarily. Where's executive equity. Volatility is not. Something's wrong here. That chart to me speaks to potentially some disruptions going forward in the equity market bond volatility lead equity volatility back in february of twenty twenty. I think one of the verge of that again. Melissa

Another military veteran jumped to his death from the top of the hotel landing on a skylight below. There is maddeningly little information about these people other than how they died. "one forty" Discussed on First Class Fatherhood

"Me now. First-class father michael chandler. Welcome to first-class fatherhood. Thank you for having me. And i appreciate the opportunity all right. Let's start right here. How many kids you have how old i have one son and he is four years old. He turned four in january. So he's almost four and a half involved in any sports activities yet. i do. Yeah so he's he is in flag football and he is in t-ball and we've got a couple of different. He gets to school this week and we got him involved in a summer camp. Every single week associated with our our school which is right down the street and keep busy. Keep him around other kids socialize and having a good time running all over the place just like oh boy should be doing. Yeah very cool. I love that. Michael if you could just take a minute here to hit my listeners. A little bit about your background. What do yes. I mean i. I've i've been wrestling. And then now i fight for a living For about the last twenty years. I wrestled in high school wrestling. College was an all american at the university of missouri in two thousand nine. Then i transitioned in to mixed martial arts right away in two thousand nine Fought outside the ufc for a very long time won a couple world titles and bella tour and came over to the ufc just fought for the world title in the ufc. Lightweights on top five lightweight right now and Chasing the gold and also trying to be a better human being at all times. Yeah it's inspiring to watch you over your career here. Michael been crushing it. In the octagon outside the octagon and along this journey about. How old were you when you first became a dad and had to becoming a father kind of change your perspective on life so i was right about thirty thirty one when i became a father We adopted our son actually so he was He was already about ten months old way him. So we got you know. Skip those first ten months of Of his life which was really just the baby stage and whatnot so we So kinda got thrusted into hood pretty quick even though it. Was you know for any of the listeners who have gone through the adoption process. Which is Its grueling at times. Because it's a long process a lot of A lot of paperwork a lot of background checks. Physical health background checks. Fbi criminal background checks. Financial background checks physicals All of those different things and make sure you are Fit to be parents of the daca child so It took about a year to get the process going and then at at one forty pm on a certain day we got an email saying we were down with our paper book paperwork and eligible to adopt them at one forty six pm. Six minutes later we got an email. That said congratulations. You're eligible by the way there. This this down in texas that fits your preferences perfectly and within forty eight hours of that phone call down in texas. We were waiting at a hotel room. waiting to receive and and take custody of are the greatest blessing on the entire planet so Although it was a long process of you know getting all the prerequisites done for adoption of six minute match was very quick so It was used blessing. In god's time and it was absolutely perfect of us use the greatest joy of our lives. Yeah very well say. Got quite a few dads out here. Who have adopted. I understand the process can be long and painstaking but definitely worth it and thank god. It is as extensive as it is so that the kids can find homes. I think no greater formula from apparent to adopt a child and give it. Give that love to somebody. That's not their own and make them their own saw props to you for you. Do you guys planning on having any more kids or adopting any more kids. You guys one done here. We are we. We've played around with the idea. I think i think we we were both in in the position where we thought man. We're like we're so happy so content with with just our son have like. I don't need love any more children. You know like we we. We didn't necessarily want to have a a huge family. I think. I think maybe one more might be on the horizon. You know Still kicking around the idea of my wife and extremely busy and we just love loving on our son. We love what he's involved in and haven't thought too much crazy forward thinking into the future but it been huge joy and you know as you know probably talk about a lot on the on this podcast. It's becoming a parent is it's the most important thing that you can do as a human being You know fighter world champion and businessmen and even husband is those are all great things but the being Being a father in leading child. Especially for me. I have the joy of having a son and i i. I want to turn them into a a wonderful young man a high functioning individual. Who's gonna yeoman is going to grow up and be a leader of his generation and Really excited about that and also excited about maybe expanding family. So we'll see. Yeah very cool. And i talk about on the show a lot. Michael is the fatherless crisis we have going on we have so many kids are growing up without a father or father figure in their life and it's having a devastating result on our society so It it's awesome to see you know people that do adopting give kids an opportunity to have a father grow up with a father figure so it's cool that what would you touch down a little bit there. But what would you say are the top values that you're hoping to it. Still unhappy growing up. I think more than anything. Hard work and accountability. You know not not hard work. Because i'm a fighter and i'm a guy who's going to work hard and do all that but we're just d- Wiping the sweat off your brow and being able to get done with day of of of work not because of You know not because of building finances not because building treasures up here on earth but but but doing the most with the talents that you were given and finding his purpose and finding what that what that thing is that makes them tick what. What is the purpose. That is on his life. And and finding god's best for his life and i truly do believe that i speak over every single night that when he walks into a room people will take notice when he walks in a certain direction. People follow him when he speaks. People will listen. I wanna speak these things into that so that he is so confident and so Secure in himself Things that i didn't really get growing up i had. I did have a great family mother and a father both in the home. A great father But it wasn't spoken to me. That i can really take the world on an take. Take everything squeezed. Every ounce of joy and happiness and success in in accomplishment. Out of this life I want him to believe those things about himself. And then through osmosis through the people that he is around. I want him to be able to to rub off on to other people just by being around him I wanted to love Fiercely want him to be a leader. As i said in his generation..

"So it's okay to get into an aerobic range but it's but you want to kind of be able to do both is what you're saying. Yeah interesting it's all just a little bit unfortunate if you think you're doing aerobic workout like if you think you're doing quote unquote cardio. You're not then it's kind of look. It's fine you're getting outside. You're enjoying the breeze. That's great but then it's almost like why are you working so hard. And then what i see. A lot of people do is they. They work out in the anaerobic range. You'll get more injuries. You'll be more exhausted. There's more recovery. And so if you slow down you can sustain a lot more workouts and you get fitter faster while game changing information for me right there all right. So i'm thirty eight eighty minutes thirty eight one forty two. I don't have any like What were the other criteria there if you have so so so so so then if you have So we are one forty two and then if you have a high blood pressure. Medicine kind of medications. Any kind of hospitalizations. Any kind of injuries Any kind of like diseases so That's minus five okay. So that's minus five or minus five or minus ten depending on what it is. You just go on the film. Matha tony's ma offend you can find it in too depending on what one of those it is. Then it's either minus fiber minus ten. And so then okay so then if your mind is fought in if you've been really if you've been like it's been extra consistent than you can add five back but you have to seen consistent improvements in your aerobic range you'd have to have been on this for awhile to add five back if you've been super inconsistent with workouts in you just starting back to work out some new minus another five okay. We'll see but for me. I don't work out in this range. Generally i'm usually higher than this. So i'm a workout okay. So if you're very consistent so then you just take the one forty two you minus five and then you take point eight five of that. And that's the highest. You should go okay. He's probably going to end up like one. Twenty five or something. You're better at math than me. Just guessing you probably really close did end up at one. Thirty two Would you say divi it. Will you said you said it was what what did you say was one forty two minus five. Right is where you were at your at one. Thirty seven one thirty seven in. Now you're gonna take point eight five one thirty seven.

thirty eight eighty minutes five Thirty seven minus ten Thirty two both Twenty five one Matha tony one thirty seven minus five thirty eight one forty two one forty two minus eight five point eight five
