"That's that's probably disappointed in a major races. I've ever been now. i can imagine. Yeah that's that's gotta be tough and a tough get past and you have to think that some day there is one with your name on it and it would be it would be wonderful to see visiting with scott blasi who is the longtime assistant trainer to hall of famer. Steve asmussen if you haven't heard the all time wins leader in the history of thoroughbred racing as of this past saturday surpassing del bayard. You mentioned scott in the first half of the program all the travel that you have gotten to do with this job. What are some of the places that you've really enjoyed going to in some of the race tracks that you've got to visit you know i really i i did. I love california when i was out there Down mar You know saratoga hard to beat the level of race in competitive messier's second to none Churchill is probably one of my favorite tracks. Run at just because it's kinda home for me my family around there and You know. I i new orleans to. It's just. I've been lucky. I've got to go places and somebody from independence kansas. You wouldn't think ever have a shot at going so it's a you know to go to saudi arabia dubai seven times. Its just the. I've got to do things on the code of forestales and that most people would never see what's the one place you would like to go to. Maybe it's an international venue that you haven't been to yet I would like to go to ask at one time japan. I would japan. I think it'd be a good experience. It's just that's just for us. It's such a busy time of year and Never really has fit into the car. You know i mean. We've had precocious two year olds. You would think about doing it with but just has never worked out yet. It has to be a whole different strategy. Right and game plan when you're mapping out a schedule for those youngsters if you're going to try and get them to ask out right. Yeah i mean. I remember when i don't know i think we one eight two year old races keen when one meat and a bunch of them. Were you know mr highlight rose. And we've talked about and you know but then you got horses like you know we had horses like curling in the bar. Pyro and i just. It doesn't really ever seem to work out for us to to do that. But maybe someday i loved what you brought up at the end of the first half of the program to and i want to go back to that for a second when you were talking about the importance of making stallions. And that's something that a lot of people listening might not know how important that is. When you're training racehorses that is always in the forefront of a lot of the decision making that you have to go through when you're you're picking spots and when you're mapping out a schedule and getting a horse ready for a certain race you have to be thinking about. How can i make this horse more valuable as a stallion or even as broodmares that right oh for sure. That's that's one thing. That steve so great ad placement and You know no no the value and what level that they can compete at Is so important. And when you have you know that we're very fortunate because like gunrunner for example. He's he's not winning just like at lonestar. You know indian down. He's he's having major winners. You know at dalmarnock saratoga and churchill and But You know to be able to make the most of his progeny like mr white chalance. We've done it for bill. Hi bro You know to to be able to play those babies to three year olds where they need to be where they can compete and win is a is a big thing for the people that own the science when you go to purchase a youngster at a sale. And you and steve or steve. Maybe as working the sale. I don't know if you work the sale together but you start talking about some of those youngsters. Do you put special emphasis on the ones that are by kirwin or that are by gun runner in the horses. The sires that you know. Does that ever enter into it. Well steve works for sales really hard. That's that's his thing and You know. I think. I think he definitely comes into play. I mean i think you want to support the people that support us so if you if you see and you know very athletic. John runner or very athletic. Happy did You know curling your. Yeah absolutely you're going to be definitely be in line to get get them so i I think he's done a great job at that. And i think our owners have done great job at put when it had young stein putting the The athletes are arm that that they like. So it's been a great relationship with a lot of people stonestreet Mr highly bro. Want wrong wind chill That they've been so supportive of us over the years Nice to be able to reclaim. Were repaying so hopefully we can continue that success. That's the other cool thing about this sport. Scott that even when they leave your barn and they retire from racing whether they become a broodmare or they go onto a stallion career. You're always following those horses aren't you. Oh for sure. I got me into matola is a- Have have yearlings this year. So i'm looking. I'm looking forward to seeing some of those so the best time of year for me when all the babies start coming in it's it's very exciting You know it's just nice to see who to. How long does it take you. And i asked this question a lot on this show because i think it's fascinating when i get some different answers. How long does it take you to realize when you get a young horse into your barn. How does it take you to know if they have what it takes to be a superstar. Let's say or a really good racehorse.

"There are aliens i wanted to show up in my lifetime like if if if they came one hundred years yes i would like it would be. I think about this a lot like a guy who died the day before nine eleven. Or whatever like you know like this is interesting. It's be like this is sort of the larger question. let's say the world is going to end And it can hands when you're eighty or five years after your desk. What he walked. And here's the one thing. It will not be painful and george burns. You won't be burned alive is not the aliens are gonna come and cover you acid. You're not going to be eaten by zombies. The world will end stunningly painlessly. When you're eighty and you can see it or you can die five years later and he'll never have to experience. I probably wanna not experience it. I'd want so. You're like dreyfuss and close encounters the mashed potatoes. So yes yes. I guess in that way i am like i would want the world to the end today because i like my life but if it was going to tell detail in your at least like i want my kids grow up you know i i sort of you know i want you to allow. I want them to have the experience of being an adult. Even if you know just even if it's truncated i guess But i i will be. It seems like it would be the biggest event since the big bang as far as any human is considered. I guess we want to see what it's like. I would wanna see how people react You know i. I i'd be. I'd be curious what what i would think about like what i'd be thinking about this during the eighties right when it. It's very possible that russia america might just blow each other up. Is that a lot out. Wow what would happen. How much. how much notice would we have before. We are blew up beside the interesting. This is an interesting thing. Forty nine year fifty fifteen fifty one eight two years but even those two years make a big difference on this issue because by the time like say a post war games kind of or whatever you know when i was i was still military school or whatever the day after i maybe i'm just speaking just from myself but i was always like it doesn't seem as though a country like the united states or country like russia would be willing to destroy itself like like like it seems like the stakes are obviously do i. In fact i remember. I think i was sixth grade because my dad was very proud of this. I wrote something in sixth grade. About how the only problem would be as if.

two years one hundred years five years later before nine eleven Forty nine year today sixth grade eighties five years eighty one thing russia fifty fifteen fifty one eight united states russia america

"Can you argue one eight two years old. He's only playing in his third year in the nba. I think ten playoff game ever play like he plays like it's one hundred. Whatever that pain in the neck he had in game four. He's turned into become a pain in the neck. For the la clippers by steve lamb. Joining us to talk mavs right now. David naming out today scott said. We're here with steve lamb. You know what they say. Those steve a series doesn't start until the home team wins. It's actually the opposite. It's usually the team. That wins a home game win this. Yeah isn't that crazy. We've had five games and the home team hasn't won yet and you were asking me during the break. Did i see the end of the game. Well it didn't tip off until nine o'clock made it through halftime. The clippers had an opportunity even though dallas had a ten point lead with a couple of minutes left right. They had a chance to go up. They were down one. Oh one to one hundred with about five seconds left. They found a and Quite leonard missed a an open three. Yes that would have put them up so they ended up losing at home again. So now the series is coming back here for a game six on friday night if the clippers win that they're going back to la for game seven. Which would be on sunday having announced the start time on that yet. But tim hardaway junior talking about Luca magic magic in the guy that this team that's guy weekend of back up any situation and get a moment and today would it would suck. It didn't come out with victories while he did Forty two points and fourteen assists and just dominated. It's amazing to me because this is a young team. The mavericks are really young team with young superstar and a young number. Two who hasn't really showed up. We can get to that in a little bit so when they went two games on the road and they come back and dropped two games at home. You're thinking okay. The series is done charles. Barkley said yeah. I know you probably want to get into the troll on Bartali 'cause he said dallas wouldn't win another game but it makes sense young usually don't bounce back from scratch mavericks in two thousand six. When they were in the finals against the heat they go up to l. and lose a heartbreaker and game three. They never recovered and this team is younger than that goes to. The stage is a little smaller in the first round versus finals. But they come back on game five and luca he had. I think it was what nineteen points in the first quarter. Yeah he was on pace for eighty points. You're like that's kobe level stuff. We've somebody compared until bron james and one of his Superstar with the cleveland when he was playing in cleveland My i'm i'm tired. Say it up last night. I think it was his birthday yesterday. Cleveland i'm going as cavalier. Oh oh that's the so. That's not a very eventful cities talking about his game and he thought maybe should have played better because he missed shining way. Better you know I missed a lot of shots. Some lineups that should make but it wasn't just stole teamed. Energy dutta was unbelievable or Energy capable the big shot with a shot of the whole team was just. They're bringing energy if we had a b. s. sound effects that went off when a player lied. It would be buzzing right now. It wasn't the whole team the whole team. I remember looking at the box. Score at halftime luca. Had i think it was twenty seven points or twenty nine points at halftime. no other mavs had double digits. I was like it was luca. Twenty nine and it was like tim. Hardaway that He was the only other player that got into double figures and he did come through clutch in the fourth quarter. Yes because luke kind of slow down in the fourth quarter. But i think clippers price said you're not beating us now. You're talking about map maps being a young team. They have a veteran coach. I think the reason they're they're still swinging away in this. Have one of the best coaches in the nba. They ever had the chip on their shoulder from getting beaten. The bubble by this clippers team last year. So it's going to be crazy. The atmosphere will be on friday night just like it was last friday and sunday. The fans were going nuts but here it is a chance to advance to the next round. That's going to be a wild atmosphere at the as you tomorrow. It's i don't know how much tickets are. I imagine on the secondary market. They're pretty dang expensive now but All right steve lamb giving us a recap of the mavs. Try to tomorrow. We'll see if they can. They can put a put a pin in this. I'm glad you didn't ask me to talk about the rangers who've lost now no team straight out of that. We're out of time..

twenty David tomorrow nineteen points Barkley two games five games last year nine o'clock yesterday scott third year steve today luca charles bron james fourteen assists sunday friday night

"The bait I will try to do better in the second hour of the program regarding whatever it is you want to talk about there are so many issues the capric thing is is too big to wrap around the Rosie and looks different breaks I can't even it's just you know I want to be on the other side of it now no worries I just want to be over and tell me what happened it's like when you're watching the show when you just get really tired of the plot and how long it takes to get to the plot and you just want to find out who did it that's kind of where I am and I imagine some of you are with the copper Nick thank psych round and round and round we go where does it end just just cut to the cut to the happy ending as they used to say one of the chairs lights right for norm what's the story Mister Peterson the Bob the twins visit the brewery woody let's cut to the happy ending that's kind of what I wanted to hear I want to cut to the happy ending go to JJ little neck start off the three o'clock hour on the fan I JJ because I'd like to talk about the ground out of those guys a call up about no rule from and Garrett how would they feel as if they were walking down the street and somebody and they bumped into somebody in the neck I turned around a crack in the head with a bat yeah that was my fault you know I thought I did and I bumped into him so he went right to it may I mean come on it's ridiculous ridiculous yeah and I do you know the element of surprise with eight seconds left he did student expected to happen and what it did he didn't take it well because he's like what are you doing I just I mean green exactly so well like not being prepared for the normal physical football that you get most nights and figuring who finally I can relax the game's over and they're getting hit like that probably played into it as well now on to the ground okay the story is always gonna be thirty two next year and he's got sixty six wins so you think he's got another five or six years and I'm with the with the way the Mets offense supports them not you know maybe in his career with a hundred twenty five hundred thirty went to to get another ten eleven twelve once per year and that is that's probably generous I say he picks up another so young along the way now you got three cy young and a hundred twenty five went does that get in the hole yes in this new era yes that cares yes yes yes the wind has taken in the backseat right and a lot of people don't like that older older generation especially because they grew up with wins and I grew up with pictures go incinerator nine innings so they don't like it but change always is controversial and difficult and you can't avoid the pain of change you need to adapt as best you can embrace it it's like the new generation the newer generation of the younger generations the under thirty five especially and even the baseball people like at the baseball at the MLB network etcetera embracing statistics that are better there are a better window to evaluating players PS is better than batting average it is but you can not be mad at someone who enjoys batting average more because this is not their job it muddies the water for them when you start throwing in war and win and all kinds of other the goal analysis that is accurate that's not my claim my claim is that's enough stop hit me over the head with this stuff I just want to watch the game I was happy with runs hits on base percentage RBI home runs doubles triples I don't need all that other stuff I admit to you that it tells me more maybe I don't want to know more maybe it's just simple like this hobby should be enjoying baseball and I don't want more than that so I mean I don't wanna get off on a tangent on on that story just to say that but winds have lost their luster now in the hall will put a will reflect that it has to or no one will get in no starting pitchers lever like all get you know I mean maybe if you plan a great team you will but I I am encouraged that diagram one eight two years our role going away without the wins because it shows that the voters understand baseball and don't you know I don't mind them being deep into it I don't mind them using all the OPS in every every slugging every statistic that was not a part of my youth that is now common I don't mind it at all just don't tell me I'm not a good fan because I don't use or I'm not really interested because they made this improvement and I don't want to use it's like telling people you would be doing writing letters just send an email you want to write letters write letters not everything is progress some people like things the way they are specially in non critical situations and certainly being a fan is a non critical situation might Kearny New Jersey up next on the fan I'm Mike okay great how we don't enjoy your show thanks what's up longtime jets fan so the question I have for you is there do you think clearly we're going to make the playoffs before this happened with Gareth probably not but they had a shot Manisha okay that being said we know that Gary it's gonna be fined and suspended for the rest of the season I really feel like the represent representative of the Cleveland Browns that clearly to lose their first round pick the courts would Garrett not playing in there gonna be rewarded by moving up the draft ladder that's too big assumption to make you know I mean you're not going to get the perfect I understand that you're not going to take away the whole deck they're gonna take somewhere going to move on to the end your move them into the middle three somebody else out who loses a player that they would have had but now they don't I mean it's I understand you don't wanna reward them for losing so I understand that point of it but I ate I don't think that one player will be the difference in I I don't think you can assume anyway let's put it that way all the you can assume that that will be the difference between wins and losses I understand your point I just don't happen to really agree with it let's go to Alex in west haven of next hi Alex are you doing good so I have a giant question but I wanted to touch on this monster here real quick did anybody realize that we started it was you know he he kind of created a penalty and made you know the guy how to react like that about was Brady if that was if that was Rogers they all had the same we actually drove him to the ground the guy was trying to get up and and being old melee ensued afterwards and I know I'm not understanding how people don't grass that you know it's a quarterback he's the baby of the field you know people are you know really understanding that the NFL focuses on protecting the quarterbacks I agree that that point Alex has not been made enough that the quarterback position is one that we are now used to having the league protect so why would this be any different you're right that that point has not been made very often here's my here's my question I always get a woman like he's hiding I don't really rock I mean nobody is mentioning got a win we had a you know we have all the worse I think all season this season you know he's starting to nobody and pour in and kind of got rid of everybody and you know we got you live with a twenty million dollar bill were you already sitting on the bench and holder all over you know all over our team and you could see it when you watch the game the team just just pick on us so when is getting and job really up for you know well again that's a that's a John Merrett decision and it George Willis wrote about that the post today and quoting from his story in the post what troubles me most is the lack of accountability from the general manager's office about where the giants stand during this bye week we should have heard from Dave Gelman this week we should have heard from the leader of this storied NFL franchise regarding the to an eight record in the six game losing streak we should have heard from Gelman what has gone wrong and what if anything he thinks is going right instead we have heard nothing so George will also post agrees with you that this lack of transparency in this in a bin inability to embrace the troubles rather than run from them and as I've grown older I really become much more a proponent you know it's almost like don't put off what you have to do if you hate going to the dentist but you know you have to go just go is thinking about having to go and how you haven't gone is worse than getting it over with and I know they're not required hit on that they can do whatever they want we spend most of our time talking about how much power they have and how little we have as fans but this isn't good for anybody Gelman's inability to face the disappointment of this season doesn't bode well for next season so I kind of agree with don't like it Rick and westerly is up next on the fan hi Rick hi Chris hi Chris hi Rick I love the show and with true I agree with you totally about them the the political bias with the media and I know that that's what's going to set you off with that guy about a half an hour ago yeah yeah I never called to defend anybody and I don't call the panel on anyway but I wanted to just say this to you only because on summer Connie she show this morning on CNN he had a fall guy and they were asking him about this thing with Garrett and his point was what the media didn't show was trying to get a beer and helmets off prior to Gerd grabbing his in other words they they showed the ending and they didn't show some of the leaders in this guy's point he was in a tall guy was he didn't think the assault or anything like that was what was appropriate because of the fact that with the heads of revenge he tried to grab your atomic to begin at and so what I wanted to say was I think that's what that guy was trying to save you but he unfortunately mentioned the media and that kind of guy you going and it's that that that they didn't show it the implication that I took was that he thought they didn't show it but he had no reason why they didn't show it like he didn't he didn't tell me they didn't show it because they want you to think blank he just said well they didn't show it so why so dorm why why did the media decide not to show that part what what yeah I don't know that they are not either I don't understand why that they haven't been making more of a point of that and I'm not being an apologist for Gerrit in any sense I'm only saying I think that that's what that kid was trying to get to but he he started off with using the word media and I think that kind of set you off in a way because I thought he was lumping it is like they had an agenda and they only showed half of it because they wanted you to think something no I don't think that either but I think there's a lot of people out there they do not understand that fact that they only see dear it's swinging the helmet in the don't know that there was kind of a major lead up to him ripping and now are you thoughts about eight seconds left and Garrett's aggressiveness toward rude off even before anything happened between the two players just lying on the tackle no I didn't know and I don't like getting the character I I don't it did so I'm not did it anyway defending what years would you consider that the original tackle was part a that Rudolph grabbing him was part B. and that C..

"Always next weekend box in the office where no we can loosen that up a little bit just different coverages gives Millville open converges that's does come down for him that helps a line out don't you ever everybody accounted for actually I'm box new offer the giants couple moves running back John Hillman what a costly fumble their loss to the patriots he was released they brought in bulk Alan also gone is running back Austin Walter as quarterback Alex Tenney was re signed an RG Barry fifteen points seven boards nextel the wizards though in preseason action one fifteen ninety nine reports every twenty minutes mark ability to be a fan twenty twenty sports visage opening join me and Evan Roberts on Monday will break down the entire sports weekend and it is the ALCS the Yankees in the Astros we'll talk about it all we'll also look at the NLCS we'll have the entire week six of the National Football League the jets of course at home against the Dallas Cowboys but we'll talk about all the games in the NFL for a week six on the midday show ten to one bidding on Robert's sports radio one one nine FM and sports radio sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York guys out got it back on the fan eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Brian in new haven what's up right Hey wild going on man how about those nationals on me the better prices yeah I like them before the series started and now they were able to take game one and they got the big three going I really like them in this series yeah interesting maybe that's not gonna be a long series now again who knows all plays out here but to get the top performance that they got in game one from Anibal Sanchez not having to I mean looking over row right to do little one of the guys one of the two guys that they trust especially on a game with a without Daniel Hudson who was out for paternity leave for for game one to win that game on the road the way that they did with sure eserver was Strasbourg with Patrick Corbin still to come have to like the national chances are absolutely huge and let's not overlook how ginger come with their again with another clutch it yeah and he struggled early on this post season but then the grand slam obviously the other night and now another big bass it yeah that's certainly look then at some point well I picked them before the post season the go to the World Series internationally I'm glad I did the way that it happened is just remarkable though when you look at what they do in the wild card game coming back late against hater then when you look at what they did in game five coming back against Kershaw and the Dodgers just impressive so far from the national this postseason seems like they're a little bit of a team of destiny internationally absolutely I couldn't agree with you more going back to the Yankees Yankees in five minutes that's really bolt but I gotta say how they laid off the rotation going into this if they could hi I will rockets game Holland and I gotta say I really like Austin going game too because it's taxed in we know he's got first inning struggles and I don't want to see them fall behind in game three against Gerrit Cole right off the bat so you know I I definitely like the way that they lay that out plus Houston hasn't seen Severino this year so then you also you also have if the series does go along you also run to worry about packs in game seven you have Severino one game seven which I like I look I like the way that the the pitching match ups line up for the yanks in this series I think that they're going to take advantage of the Stroh's having to go five against the rays and it's a bold pick Brian I understand that and it's on trying to be respectful to the Astros but short series do happen even with two really good teams and because of the way the pitching lines up and because of the way you know the two in Houston and then three here in Yankee Stadium that's why I think you could draw up a realistic scenario the way the Yankees to win this series in five games I I couldn't agree with you more I hear a lot of a Lotta analysts saying that they believe that the Astros had the better overall line I would think about that I think right now it's the Yankees and thanks for the call Brian appreciate I think right now the Yankees have the better line up top to bottom now I'm not discounting what distros can bring Michael Brantley has been an excellent addition George Springer is a stock we know that Bregman is a start al Tuesday somehow the guys still underrated I guess because of his size but I mean he's a great player one of the best players in the league so they had some players who can be I mean I got some they got some good players up and down that line but after watching the Yankees all year long I just trust their line up to be more savage maybe then this rose and also you'll get a Yankee one of they can score they score runs by accident I mean if they score runs with such ease it's a it's it doesn't take much they don't even need a three run homers they're getting on base and their score runs in bunches every inning this traffic on the basepaths in sac flies in the bass hits and then the home runs it all adds up you will get it throughout the course of the game such as warning of guys hitting its throughout the course of the game and before you know they put up a ten spot well they put up a spot they're gonna put up crooked numbers and that's without standing or Sanchez really have an impact now stand against good pitching I don't like that I like to see tour as up in the line up here at least one spot he should be batting fifth if the eggs are going to try to keep it consistent I like Erin Hicks and his back again some of those right handers of distros gonna throw out yet you got to figure out how they're gonna you know work their line up here I I'd rather have honestly I know they're probably not going to do this but I think the best line up against distros paging is probably without Jon Karl stand I know it sounds crazy I understand you can't take a guy get it sixty overs out a wreck again with one swing I just trust Hicks Girardi shallow lemay U. N. carnassial on more then I do Jon Karl stand I like Gartner to give you a clutch top at bat obviously left the heck same thing switch hitters who's gonna bat lefty against her lan or cold rank you good pitching or shallow guys going to put the ball in play now this is not a home run threat that Stan is was gonna put the ball in play he would probably be and that's why I didn't think the eighties Needham after the two thousand seventeen season he would probably be the first guy that I would put out but they were impossible fight you can't really do that if you do that look at the gutsy move I'll see if they do it every game but maybe do a based on match ups against viral and or or or coal you figure the stands gonna struggle against those guys and you know I can understand why they would leave him in there be a bold move they took him out there probably not gonna happen but they do need to figure out a way to get our takes it takes is here he should be quiet if he's fully healthy Anthony lake what what's up man are you dollars are pretty good Anthony how are you I'm pretty good thank you I'm calling because you know you kill of years you're killing me I'm a Die Hard asal spin up another one to six okay eight you know and thank you so it's easy to look at their thou about respect the Yankees lineup they have a lethal lineup they're going to be tough but we also a very tough team also we've been tested you know listen at Tampa Bay series we played against some of the best pitching in American only have bay was tough there throughout the two some of which is that it we found a way to beat them okay I agree I agree with you which is a little shaky quick you makes me nervous and I think if you can come out and set the tone you can put your good game tonight they will get their first victory could carry through the rest of the series yeah Hey look I'm not seeing the show's candy have talent now here's the thing that maybe I don't know if you're going to be concerned about or not is all about the raise great pitching the Astros jumped on glass now in the first inning for four runs because he was tipping pitches now you give the Astros credit for noticing that picking up on it but outside of that day he did not really perform well offense of Lee in this series and I I think I'm a good pitching are you sure can you call may now be able to get you with the Tampa Bay south we got swept four straight games in the regular season with ana your regular Kamali with the will to put Tampa Bay terrific it's flat Tampa Bay has good teaching Tampa is good pitching then as good as the not as good as the Yankees does it do you prefer mistaking sell you know anything you know that it's not any more it's not anymore Tanaka Paxson Severino then you throw in apple pan on top of it no they better look the Yankees will have to have an open or star game five of the post season because they have to knock a packs in war Severino they could throw at you three legit guys who could be aces at any point now they're not Gerrit Cole in Berlin nobody is but they're still better than anything the racetrack never lets out a list of not god giving it to not good he can be tough in the playoffs the fact that you you know if you get to in the first two innings he could be sixty so religious like all his loan years with that competitive get a competition big competitive all season did you watch any game three the division series sort of like a deer in headlights look Minnesota's I know that I know missiles by I understand there is an error in the poll now the third little thanks the eggs are now in the post season the post season begins for the Yankees after the bye week but Severino his performance was important to watch and we say what you will about the twins and I I get it they stink and overrated hundred when team adept in the post season they still have some guys on that team will get head and when you do with several you know did and just look as nasty as he did with his command I think several you know those on the sand right now I think he's on the climb I think he's coming into his own certainly this year because he's really pitched he looks fresh it looks great I think the best of Severino this year is yet to come and that's why I think the yanks we're gonna win this year's big keys Severino but but but it but he's the team throughout okay that's tough with tough mentally we've been tested through it all that break okay there are two right yeah okay does ringer got up about becoming Alvarez okay you know without it sold for a good clean sound we do everything right we hit the ball was spread the ball around we have the power or the way it is no this is going to be tested that would be like the plan Minnesota agreed not will go to your we like it your head like for some reason we go to New York shall we would have that crowd you know that's my point here is the that's why I think that the engine to win the series in five and thank you for the call and I'm not trying to be disrespectful toward your shows and good luck to the Astros and you obviously in this series should be a fun series but you look at again I don't know how many times I can say this I know the Astros are a great team great teams have been be before they have been beaten four five games before I also understand that picking the astro picking the Yankees in five is somewhat of a bold prediction you want everybody else gonna pick in six or seven you know I just I think you could map it out it may not work out that way but I think you could map it out and realistically say there's a chance the yanks could win it in five now if the Yankees wore home for the first two and on the road for the next three maybe I'd be less inclined to take them to one in five if Gerrit Cole was going game one in Berlin your game too angry to game three may be less inclined to pick the Yankees in five I'm not picking Yankee someone in five because the Astros lined up I know the Astros lined up is good also a little bit against the rays but you're right raise a good pitching I think the Yankees on it may have the advantage slightly banned by the they may have the advantage that's not why I am picking the yanks and five not because of anything negative to do with the Astros just the way things are lined up and it's more pro Yankee than anything else Richard Imad Richard I doubt doubt if Washington wins the World Series just thinking that first of all Houston one eight two years ago and they went fifty seven years right after they came into the National League into baseball fifth nineteen sixty two now to Washington nationals came in as the Montreal Expos which came in in nineteen sixty nine so it'll be fifty years exactly as they came in but what's more interesting is the original Washington team the Washington Senators which are now the Minnesota Twins.

"Today's show comes to you on Friday a couple of days before before the giants faced the Tampa Bay buccaneers in week three of the two thousand nineteen. NFL season this will of course be the debut of of Daniel Jones as the giants starting quarterback will talk to Bob Glauber of Newsday a little bit later on about the giants decision -sition this week to move on from ally manning and give the reins over to the rookie Daniel Jones Bob happens to be a hall ah fame selectors so the subject of whether or not he lie manning is a hall of fame quarterback will of course come up during our conversation. I I wanted to address something that I've been asked a few times during the week in the wake of the giants decision to move on from manning into Jones and that is our the giants really after just two weeks of the of the season actually giving up on two thousand in nineteen nineteen to be honest. I really don't see it that way. I don't see you know Pat Shurmur as actually giving up on two thousand thousand in nineteen I see it more as Shurmur end the giants organization embracing reality the reality being they are not currently a great football team that they have a very young inexperienced developing defense that that hopefully will get better as time goes along that they are a developing football team that their future is is in the hands of Daniel Jones that they have to see what they have. They have to know you know what what they have in Jones and it really doesn't make sense to have a developing team which isn't going to be a championship. Contender in two thousand was an in nineteen into have a thirty eight year old quarterback playing while you have a first round draft choice. The Guy who is is your future sitting on the bench so I look at this really as embracing reality I find the question also of are they giving up sort of interesting considering the number of times that you hear after the preseason and after watching Jones a little bit you hear people say well. I think Joneses better and I don't know if Jones is better than Eli Manning but what I do know is coaches in general are people who think about the next game they think about the next week they don't think about next year they don't think about three years years down the road and and you have to ask the question what if Daniel Jones at this point actually is a better quarterback acton Eli Manning. I think that Pat Shurmur watched the last couple of weeks. He watched Dak Prescott run. Some zone read stuff and use his legs to pick up some first downs. I think he watched Josh Allen Run for a touchdown. The other day use his legs to extend time to extend plays give his wide receivers opportunities to to get open down the field. You make it difficult on giants defensive backs to cover. I think Pat Shurmur looked at those things and said obviously. Eli Can't do those things in our offense. Daniel Jones can and perhaps thought that because of the giants struggles to score points because of their struggles on third downs that Jones would give them some things some elements to their offense that he li- simply can't so. I don't know that it's necessarily Shurmur saying well. You know we're we're giving up on this season. I think there are things that Shurmur wants. It's to do in his offense that Eli Manning simply cannot do and Daniel Jones probably can you know plus as I said I think it's simply embracing racing the reality that whether this is Eli Manning's falter not that the giants are owned to however you feel about that is however you feel about that and we're not gonNA argue about that. Adam not going to go into that but the reality of it. Is You have a developing football team. I don't like the word rebuilding doing Dave gettleman doesn't like that word so you know I'm just I'm just not really going to go there. It's developing team. It's one that the giants are in the process of putting together. They have so many young pieces and as I said initially you know what what sense does it really make make to have a developing team. That's not going to compete for a super bowl. That's it's extremely unlikely to make some sort of a deep playoff playoff run. What sense does it make to have the thirty eight year old quarterback playing while the future of your franchise sits and watches and I simply think that that's the reality of the decision that the giants came to was that they really needed to move forward into their future embrace that future if it happens to bring them some short term benefit in terms of changing their offense injecting some life into into an Owen to team that really is pretty much staring down the barrel of a third straight. you know really awful start to a season. I think it was one eight two years ago. It was one in seven a year ago and the giants are kind of staring down the barrel uh of another really awful start to a season so if it injects some life and helps them play better football in the short term then that's that to me is a bonus. That's that's fantastic you know and that will you know that might help now but the the reality of it is this. He's the better decision the right thing for the giants to do for the future and for the direction of their franchise all right. Let's take a a quick break for a word from our sponsors. After that break you will hear my interview with Bob Glauber of Newsday. Let me apologize is now. We ended up having to do that. Interview fee a phone and that the sound quality on on that is a little bit scratchy a little bit staticky. It's not fantastic. I think it's it's well worth your time to listen to it though but I just wanted to warn you that.

"Already we are back Richard here with the two old twelve thirty Susan Waldman Yankee pregame then got time I look at our and Mr Robert Rosenow set the controls let's go to bill in Manhattan bill you're on the fan my call yeah so personal of John sterling as you know the great job on the radio I love is unique takes and home run calls and I did a replacement during quite a heck of a job yeah they don't play by play on the radio is on nets games in Yankee teams and replacement of Michael K. but I don't know why they picked someone you know who the fill it with the other station no I when they pick someone up really with the fan and I don't know what the politics of radio or anything like that or put it would just make more sense they pick someone you know affiliated with that would help you out there and that the other station well who do we really have that say baseball play by play person who's done a lot of that I don't know but you know I don't know what was the the the whole politics of battle but once it's not so much politics it's it's like you know I think Sweeney is on a little bit of play by play I'm not sure if he's done much he he's off this week anyway but you know you need somebody who has done it before and even though Ryan is done it on TV it's it's a transition and you know it's not a permanent thing and and Susan really is not a play by play person she provides color and that's what she wants to do so that that's behind that decision I would assume I'd love to hear I am eagle do baseball I don't even know if I am interested in it you know because he's so good with basketball and football and everything else he does but I I'd love to hear him do baseball if you wanted to but again I don't know if he's available or what's what's going on in the life of the bird man it's going to Jeff from the Bronx you're on the fan Jeff Hey Richard how you doing this morning say Brad pretty good Jeff Hey I wonder why it took a little bit about the V. as trade in a point about the familiar signing if you let me okay about the P. S. trade in baseball a little bit too attachment is very Superbowl and that you know if something happened before that's the perceived value and that's kind of the going rate you know you see what arbitration you feel when players are coming up on you know during during the trade deadline you know when players how much control they have that kind of what you can get and if you look at the past to trade before the D. as trade where closer changed hands look at the Sean Doolittle trade and look at the brand hand trade and you look at some of the prospects that works changed these team capable boatload of prospects for them so the idea that the Mets are going to get the ads without giving up anything and just taken a consoles contract is absurd so you're saying that they were fleeced and track that that Seattle knew that the as was not going to be what he was last year no no no what I'm saying is is that when when the Indians traded Brad hand when they acquired Brad hands with apologies they give a Francisco me here he was a top ten prospect window nationals got someone too little they give up late trying in with an all star closer last year and Jesse was Arnold the number ten prospect in all of baseball I mean the idea that you could just say oh well we'll just take a big seller backing give us one the most valuable commodity that's the Mets gave up you know Kalanick who is their their top prospect at that point great great going rate for that kind of a player that's all I'm saying you know met fans have this so you're saying this is a good trade I'm fine with it it was a good trade okay well here here's the here's what I would say about that you've seen young closers and and and I think this is generally true of bull pen arms and sandy Alderson had said this and I'm sure he was in the first year to year unless your merry on Rivera less you're one of those guys that has done it for I don't know let's say five years in a row year to year you know now two thousand seventeen was not a good year for the US two thousand eighteen was a great year for the US Hey look at a couple of ways you can say well he figured it out in two thousand eighteen and he is the best young closer in the game or you could say well he's more like he is really a two thousand seventeen and eighteen was an anomaly and he's going to go back to the main I don't know what what the future holds for and when the as weather is going to be merry on over there or he's going to be somebody that you throw on the scrap heap but I think the point that a lot of people are making I mean this is our our fall to in the media and fans were you look at the Mets team this year and you said okay they're gonna be contenders so you need a closer after familial left he didn't really have a closer last year and you could get it did it by committing you got by with it because the one seventy seven games are worn in the pennant race didn't matter when you figure we're going to go for this year you need a guy and you got a guy like that given to you who had a great year last year and had to give up the prospect and you had to take on Kanno salary pot he got what our shores accu got rid of Bruce those burdensome salaries well J. Bruce although he struck out then the game last night as Vietnam vets twice now with game winning hits and you know you probably saw the numbers a Jay Bruce put up again for the Phillies I don't know if you can sustain that that is on a pace they had forty home runs so and always J. Bruce perch last year was at the reason that he had such a terrible year and that look like such a bad contract well doesn't look so bad now does it and forsake his pitching decently for the Braves so I think yeah you know you evaluate that trade now with Kanno hitting two thirty something with no power means go with three home runs all year he's got one at Citi field and he's clogging up the line up at three in his defenses has been compromised he has no range anymore you can argue about his influence on young players depending on who you listen to yeah the young players he's good with them is a good instructor for them or they see his habits and they emulated it's not so bad but so far I mean you have to give that traded the minus if not enough let's go to Bob in Oakland you're on the fan Roberts Hey Richard I don't Hey Bob you know what I mean call to talk about the guy but none of those other teams took back a contract I can note so basically the guys saying like will impose think up ways there was a good idea for us so anyway hello what again I mean we have we can we can safely step because if if the US goes on to be merry on then it's good trade but that right now it does not look real good at all I think it's please just because they come out which is why I called to talk but I mean like you said the defense thanks I don't remember if you remember last year like they always make it a lot of diving plays while I was great but I mean we never see economic right but and speaking of which Rozario you're gonna play last night were like everyone to go you can't cut it was love he goes up he goes to his right he's like picking all day to throw the ball and it's like you know the guys say that perspective on nine there were any kidney this good this guy is like I remember when he was like in single layer something and they were saying this guy is already like the best defensive player in the match entire system including the man I mean no one's watching this guy just staying with but you know like basically no it's just a shame that can that was like not only is the study starting third but use really taking away from our defense and like make me you know he's good and right and but it's like he could really be showcase for a great quite defensive player you second family doing that guy yeah well here's here's a thought then and it came from Joel Sherman you look at Rosario and I agree with you I mean we heard that this guy was going to be you know Ozzie Smith defensively he's going to be that well he's not what about making him into a center fielder that's a position you desperately need a guy that's got some speed which was Ariel has a guy they can hit which I think he's developing as a hitter it's a little slower than you'd like to see it but I think he's developing into what I I I would think would be maybe a two eighty hitter someday which line drives an occasional home runs better suited for center field and you can plug and I think gal this was one of the names that was mentioned but I mean you can even Etcheverry I can play shortstop somebody like that to play shortstop and solve your center fielder problem by converting reserve what do you think about that yeah there okay I guess not that was something that Sherman and that's something I I I think to seriously consider because Conforto will play centerfield memo will play with you ever gets back but that's not what the best suited for where as reserving a might be he's got the arm strength he's got the speed that's something they should try and and look the Mets at this point nine games under five hundred behind every team in the National League except the Marlins in terms of wild card they might as well start experimenting with things I might as well try people in different spots long term as opposed to you know close got about third kind has got a bad third he's our second baseman every day and where is that gonna Getcha gotta Frank in the Bronx you're on the fan Frank Hey Richard how are you I'm good Frank how are you no I'm good thank you you know I I wish you told this stuff they just it's such as hardening that everything is so negative everybody points it does not the other thing the bottom line is the match loans because of the pope I'm not your shoulders five six once again eight double prints blown it for them it was about twenty games this year just a whole been blown saves are you one of those where you understand so what what I don't care you can put any player anywhere I want to win but the ball pretty chill stuff kills I don't know what you're looking at your job regulate what's wrong what's your old one it's not only do you guys it's the whole old I don't know if you want an answer well if if I did I'd I'd replace Phil Reagan is their pitching coach no I don't total inconsistency I mean they got rid of Dave island and their bullpen coach and then said well you know these not effective and and you can't look at Reagan and say well you know he hasn't turned it around and in two weeks or three weeks so the other day it's not working with them I mean it takes time I mean if guys have developed bad habits if there's a problem with their motion and what whatever it is you know you can't just wave your hands and say all I I see what's wrong and fix it like that so I think you have to give him time but it's just that inconsistency and what would drives me crazy watching games and watching guys come out of the bullpen was one and a familiar does this all the time he walked the first here and sometimes on for pictures and it's like okay you don't want runners on base if you have to throw strikes and let them hit it make them earn their way on don't give them free passes because you're seeing it now with the mats and a and it's endemic in the entire pitching staff with their slow to the plate whether it's the catchers all really throw that well or accurately guys get on first base I am on a walk they might as well just walk over to second base because they steal constantly on the Mets constantly so you can't walked the leadoff hitter you can't walk guys you can't give them free passes and now you've got you got to go after them a little bit and if your stuff is in good enough to go after them what are you doing on the team and I think that's that's part of the problem it's going to fill up in Jamaica queens here on the fan Philip our regular office thank you Michael you have a great show thank you Philip I wanted to have the mix and then free agency or to make a couple of flights allowed I'm hearing a lot of fans say let the and I don't get me wrong I know that they do not do good in three day but I don't know what you expect of the mix of them because all the big time free agents who are fighting and with other teams I think they did the best job that they could have done in the situation and then finally leaves player like top get said and on the player two one eight two year contract so I think what the plan is is his side he's like top given to one a two year contract and they get the big free agent for the future and the other thing is they're not talking about a big loss that they want to the Brooklyn nets to the Barclay Jordan I think it was a good player and he wanted to on the player good defense and I've I've been here how much the mock would go to the gun and the mess I think it's.

"I mean if you look at his came up twelve runs on eleven on fifteen hits in unfortun hits and five th through there and over his last two starts actually were both losses but definitely the last time he pitched in washington was he bits pretty well those end the season last year hill without one run on four hits in seven innings all right jake arrieta goes today for the phillies against strategy for the dan strategy for the marlins to right handers area as three now with a one eight two year as the philly's got to really be happy with the fact that they were able to stay the course in sign area to that contract over the off season and it took a while to get finished up but to as lived up to the hype definitely i mean he dominated the pirates on on april nineteenth only allowed one hit on striking out ten on seven scoreless so hopefully looking at to he looked definitely beat up on the pod beat the by the diamond diamondbacks as well actually on wednesday so last week and he'll be coming back now for his start today against the marlins who actually just took two out of three from the rockies at home they're they're gotta be you're good too if you're miami but it's still miami to be honest in la i mean against the dodgers in an arizona down in phoenix is the dodgers and the donald actually you said the daughters are starting to series today and there's another tuffy after dropping three out of four from the giants over the weekend in san francisco they're gonna play the diamondbacks it's going to be ross stripling against zach grinky.
