New York has 144 coronavirus deaths in one day: ‘Don’t get cocky with Covid,' Cuomo says
"You take it? Those are the two looming questions right now about the Corona virus vaccine, says Governor Cuomo as vaccine vaccination efforts continued today in the city despite tightening supplies. The governor was in Brooklyn to convince minority communities not to delay getting the vaccine as soon as they're eligible and saying that access has to be fair across the board, one of the state's pop up vaccination sites is at the William Reid housing complex on East New York Avenue. Governor Cuomo showed up to press the need for a covert vaccine shot, he says, Now isn't the time to be complacent. Don't get cocky with covert. Don't get cocky with covert 144 people died yesterday. "They were letting them in. They were like tourists in the capital, People had their feet up on Nancy Pelosi's desk. And we're all looking like, wow. Like we would have been dead on the stairs. They have been spraying our blood up with the water hose if we even made it into the rotunda. Let's we want to make it in either chamber. And I couldn't help but think about June 1st. I couldn't help but think about the time that we did protest of the capital and we got two gas and pepper sprayed. I couldn't help but think about the time that I was leaving a protest. I got arrested by five police officers and I had done nothing wrong and they all kneeled on my back. And bruised my ribs. But yet all of those white people left They went home. We don't get that luxury after really understanding that this country on Lee really Uses force against you when you're fighting against white supremacy, and that upholding it. That is when everything from he changed so black people we need to be scared. Because we're going to be the first ones that get affected by their violence. If they decide to do things like that on that's what people really are missing. This is what happens when you constantly erase history is what happens when you tell people that everything that led their countries ever been is amazing and great and fantastic when you have nothing but blood on your hands. This is who we are, by view of the sea and all all these monuments completely changed over the past eight months. They don't actually tell the full story. What this country is or how this country came to be. I feel like I spent my whole life marveling at the beauty of the city up until I started protesting in it. So my politics and everything completely changed over this past eight months because I really saw what this country thinks of me. Before the protest this summer, Ariana saw herself one day working on Capitol Hill these days, with all that's happened. She's now an activist with the racial Justice Group Freedom Fighters, D. C. That was reveals under Lee Comet. Her story was produced by the jib Amini. Like Arianna Charles Allen also lives in Washington, D. C. He represents Ward six on the City Council. That's part of the city that's home to the U. S. Capitol. We talked to him a few days before the inauguration, and he said the attack on the Capitol was also an attack on the neighborhood that he and his constituents call home. There's a tree over by the Supreme Court that my daughter walks to to read a book under these air parts of our community, our neighborhood and the violence and the assault that took place not just on democracy, but on It feels like our neighborhood is deeply hurtful to all of us, and it hurt in a very raw and real way For a lot of people. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to try and manage the city right now. What's an example? That shows just how difficult this is? In the moment If I go back to January, 6th I think that the inability for the district to be able to deploy the D C national Guard worthy on Lee place in the country. That is treated like this. Where our executive our mayor, but would be a governor in a state is unable to deploy the National Guard and what we saw happen was Hours and hours of delay from the federal authorities to let us be able to deploy and activate the National Guard to help save.

Birx Unloads Frustrations With Ex-President, White House Officials
"President Biden is tackling the pandemic, and that's one of his priorities During the first days in office, the U. S is averaging more than 187,000 new cases and 3000 deaths each day with the national death toll now at more than 410,000. CBS is Nancy Cordes reports. The Trump administration's coronavirus task Force coordinator, Dr Deborah Burkes told CBS is Margaret Brennan that she was unable to tell the truth under President Trump fact, she said that even to the end of the Trump administration, there were still high ranking individuals in the White House who insisted that Cove it Was a hoax, which is sort of unbelievable When you think about the fact that by the time Mr Trump left office 400,000 people had died,

The Straw That Broke The Bucatini Supply Chain
"Today on the show. I am joined by planet money producer. Alexi horowitz ghazi and alexi. Hello first of all parody cardiff alexi. You've brought us a kind of pasta mystery. Not just any pasta. Cardiff dismissed all about a very particular. Pasta shape called bucatini. It's basically just spaghetti with a hole in it in. The story comes to us. By way of a self avowed bucatini fanatic new york magazine writer. rachel handler. When did you know that you were bucatini. Hat or bucatini bopper. Look what do we call ourselves. Ivan bucatini had because. I just think it's cute but i definitely didn't grow up in a bucatini household by any means we are definitely spaghetti. Family the mystery part of all of this began. When rachel started to notice last spring that her beloved bucatini seemed to be getting harder and harder to find at our local grocery stores in new york until eventually it seemed to be totally gone and then one day in the fall rachel was on the phone with her also pasta obsessed mother who lives in chicago and her mom kind of mentioned off hand that she was having the exact same problem. Racial literally haven't been able to find bucatini anywhere and she was talking specifically about to check out. The check is a one hundred and forty year old italian pasta company so when she said that i was like slow mo i was like because i thought it was like a new york problem like a very classic. Sort of like you know history. I can't find my bucatini. Whatever like who cares. But then i was a coli though. Sorry can i swear. Oh yeah okay okay. Great it's like holy if you can't find it that means that this is a real issue. And then she told me that she had actually reached out to the customer service department to check. Oh i just sent them an email. it's a classic move. It was like full of typos. Which is like a way. That mom's ready meals. But her email said i am a huge fan of bucatini pasta huge in all caps. I have not been able to find it for many weeks at any store. It is my favorite pasta cook than the sentences in all caps with four questionnaires. Are you still making it. Please tell me how to get some not too long afterwards. Rachel's mom gets a voicemail from a regional dicicco sales representative named brian. And then when. She played me voicemail from brian. I was like holy like this goes deep. There is a cover up like something weird is going on. Brian told rachel mom that she was likely having trouble. finding check. Oh bucatini. Because of an fda hiccup the hecker exactly for some reason the fda which is the food and drug administration seemed to have put a hold on the import of check. Obu katini and now. Brian was telling rachel's mom to sit tight and check the shelves a few months down the road and the fact that this little pasta mystery seemed to reach all the way to the federal government. That was something that had dogged. Journalists like rachel could not in good conscience. Look away from. This is the turning point for me. Yeah the next day. Rachel pitched the story to her editor but in the back of her mind. She wasn't sure it would go anywhere. And i'll just felt so big. And i think all of us figured nothing would really come event. At least i did. I was like i'm never going to figure out what's going on but began calling to check. Oh i reached out to like five or six different people. Email and phone call and voicemail and no one got back to me and then i was like something in santa's happening and i don't know and at that point i was like there's there's a story hammond
California reports one-day record high COVID-19 deaths
"Now reporting a one day record 2 764 covert 19 deaths. But the rate of you infections is falling. The deaths reported today topped the previous mark of 708 deaths that was said two weeks ago. In the last two days, California has recorded 1335 deaths from covert 19 hospitalizations and newly confirmed cases. Have been falling, however, and health officials are growing more optimistic. The worst of the surge may in fact, be over the 23,000 new cases reported today are less than half the mid December peak of nearly 54,000
Biden announces mask mandate for interstate travel
"And we're getting our first look at the Biden administration's national strategy to fight the Corona virus pandemic. One of the president's first priorities is to expand testing and vaccine production. And our next guest applauds the president's plan but wants to see more done. Dr. Lena Wen is a professor of public health at George Washington University and an ER physician. She's on Skype. And Dr Wen Biden's goal is 100 million vaccine doses in his 1st 100 days in office in the Washington Post. You call this a disappointingly low goal. Why First of all I do want to point out that we were yesterday, one day into his presidency, and he's already put forth a plan that we've been missing from the Trump Administration for a year. And this plan is comprehensive and addresses so many components that we've all been asking from the Trump administration testing PPE travel masking its very comprehensive and I couldn't help but think how different things would have been if we had this type of plan in place months ago. The thing is, though, we do need bold action at this point that is befitting of what? President Biden Call's This wartime effort. 100 Million Vaccines. Sounds like a lot. But, frankly, 100 million vaccines that 100 days is actually the pace that we're at. Now we are at about 900,000 million vaccinations a dame, and so if that's what President Biden call's a dismal failure they continuing at that pace isn't particularly inspiring. The other thing, too, is at this rate. We're not going to be able to reach herd immunity. For a two does vaccine until June of 2022. So a lot more needs to be done. And it's possible then maybe their supply issues that the new administration is uncovering. But if that's the case, they should tell us and set the expectation because right now, this is not the kind of aspirational moon shot that we need. Something else. Biden also signed executive orders requiring masks and federal buildings and on public transit between states. You want to know why he's not issuing a national mask mandate. You also suggested he could withhold federal funds from states that don't require masks. But we've been talking so much about state's rights to make their own decisions. Couldn't a national mandate actually create a huge backlash? You know, this is a very difficult trade off that we have to be making at this point about what is an individual liberty versus what is the public Good. In this case, I would equate wearing masks similar to what we do with seat belts and specifically with not allowing drunk driving. This is not about your own right or about a state, right. This is also something that affect the entire country. If there is a hot spot in one part of the country, it's going to end up spreading to other parts of the country as well. And so again. I applaud President Biden's action in issuing this Last mandate that protects federal workers who are in federal buildings. I just think that bolder action would also set the right tone. We also know that what is driving the infection in many parts of the country are indoor gatherings, extended family and friends. It really breaks my heart to see little kids not be in school. But then there are birthday parties and play dates that are occurring. It breaks my heart to see restaurants and retail businesses not be able to open but people are getting together indoors for dinner parties and game nights. Now I completely realize that pandemic fatigue is real, and that people want to see their loved ones. But I also think that there is a hard truth that we depend on President Biden to convey, which is that if we want for schools and businesses to open then what are we as individuals willing to give up? Huh? President Biden has predicted that the death toll will top 500,000 next month. But then there is the slight dip in the number of cases recently. In some states. How do you interpret these numbers? And what do you expect? We'll see in the coming weeks. I'm not sure at this point that we can understand the recent decrease in hospitalizations and infections as a trend yet I want to be optimistic. But I'm also concerned because it's possible that we haven't seen the full effects off the holidays just yet. In addition, we have these new variants. The CDC is projecting. That the UK variant may well become the dominant variant here in the U. S by March, and this is a very intense, more contagious and as a result, it will result in more deaths. And so I am not cautiously optimistic. I'm looking at the next several weeks as some of the most difficult that we will have faced as a country and things may still deteriorate from there. We need to get vaccines into arms as quickly as we can. And in the meantime, we have to reduce the spray. Head of this virus and again, I think that's a message that all of us is public health experts but also, as politicians and leaders of the community need to help to convey that this battle is far from being over. That's Dr Lena When Professor of public health at George Washington University and an emergency room physician as always, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you.
Time running out to extend California’s eviction moratorium
"You're running up against the clock is they try to extend a statewide eviction moratorium. Designed to help renters who are facing serious money problems because of covert 19 it's currently set to expire January. 31st negotiations on a plan to push that day to the end of this year are still underway, with no deal in sight as of yet, on his first day in office Wednesday, President Biden extended a federal evict conviction moratorium, but that's only good until the end of March. Unless Congress extends it again, you

You're Going Somewhere. Are You Going Where You Want to Be Going?
"This is the jaakko underground podcast number. Four with echo. Charles in me jaakko willink good evening echo. Also joining us. Good deal dave good. Evening gave all right. Let's get into the topic of the day. So i know we. We recorded a podcast earlier today. About the marine corps document and Called competing and i of through some stuff at you today. Kind of the in that opening talking about this this leadership and influence continuum so i had neck issues my neck menaka had. I had a problem with my neck. I had woke up one day. This was years ago. I woke up one day and couldn't move. My right arm didn't move So so imagine that you wake up and you can't be right arm. Had some so mean went to the doctor and they started figuring out what to do. Because i had basically some problems in my neck that was causing friction on the nerves. That control my right arm. So i had to do some physical therapy in of and eventually it said they said you know you're gonna need to get surgery to fix this problem. Okay so They gave me basically two options. Well one option was. Don't get surgery in your the longer. It's in this condition the worst chance. It has of recovering. So that's not good but you can't do it if you don't wanna take any chances of getting surgery so the two options so one was called a frame anatomy which they go in through the back of your neck and they basically chip away at some bone and they give the they give some breathing room for your nerves. The other one they gave is the other option. They gave us get a fusion where they go off the front of your neck and they basically carve a bunch of bone out and then they fused your neck together so they can't move that one is considered to be the has has a superior result m- most of the time it's also the last. It's also the last resort. Also you can't escalate from there the other one if you let's say you got the frame and the one going through the back and it didn't go well. I didn't have the impact that you wanted to to have. Well then you could go well. It didn't really work the way i wanted to now. I wanna get the other one so you at least had one more option so as i considered this actually there was a. There's the you talk through the possible problems that you could have one of the problems and this was back in the day so one of the problems that you can have when you get a fusion going through the interior of your neck of the your neck when they're going in there they're close to your vocal cords and they can cut your vocal cords and you can't talk anymore which back then. It's kind of scary to think now. Since the only thing i do for a living is talk. That would not have been cool. And i was thinking at the time. Well i i'm in a leadership position. I need to be able to talk to people that could be a problem. Also there's you can die. You know you can. They can just screw up and you can just paralyze you or they can kill you so as i'm talking to the doctor. Who was the best neurosurgeon in the milit- in the navy on the west coast at the time he was the really skilled guy and i you know he said so. You die you this. And that. And i said yeah you know what are the chances i mean what i said. How many how. Many sides are on that dice. Though said like ten thousand and he goes about two hundred. I said to myself. That's okay not exactly what i wanted to hear. But then i told him i said hey. Listen if i can if my friends can get hit with giant pieces of shrapnel flying through the air and live. I'm sure you would a scalpel on sterilized. Surgery table you can make this happen. And so i ended up choosing the frame and autumn me to go in through the back and the main reason why i chose it is because you can escalate from there i had room to maneuver right. I there was some place to go. If the fusion front fusion doesn't get the desired result. You're just stuck with no with with that. That's what you're stuck with so we don't want to paint ourselves into a corner. As far as i can tell i never wanna pay myself with. Do co. corner. I never wanna leave myself without any options. I don't want to dig in to a particular position. I want to be in a situation. That i can't get out of and this is why it's such a strange thing because that should be your attitude. As far as i'm concerned. I don't know i'm in my opinion. Your attitude should be. I don't want to be stuck in a position. She feel to feel wrong. If you're trapping yourself in a position which is weird because there's a counter to that. Which is you have to be super determined right you have to be. You have to be super determined

And i know that you reached out to us quite some time ago to to get on and i'm and i'm glad you're here. It took us a little while but were here in. Your book is still out there and doing so well. So many great reviews. Yes and actually. It's great timing because the book just past her first birthday. Yeah be a celebration of about a year ago. I had the pleasure of speaking with dr steven hayes and he told me that that time that he pioneered act to help people with mental health issues feel fully think freely and live lives that reflect the qualities they choose and i'd like to begin our conversation with you sharing with us. How act can support women who often struggle with anxiety. Health things -iety in anxiety attacks. Yeah well act is a little different from some of the traditional ways. We go about attacking anxiety in that. The main goal of act is about developing psychological flexibility. And so this is really tuning in to the life you want and the person you want to be and showing up in doing what matters no matter what so. We often get caught in a trap where we do this waiting until thing you know like oh you know maybe i have a huge dream so i'll give you a personal example. I had a really big dream of doing a fedex. Talk one day and an opportunity arose to be able to do that. And i was terrified. I mean can feel my anxiety rising right now just talking about what we often do is say well i just i just need a little more expertise and i just need a little more practice and once i get my anxiety under control and i feel more confident and less insecure. Then i'll go ahead and do this. And what act is all about is becoming an observer of all those thoughts and feelings that we often get really hooked by and sort of we allow those thoughts and feelings to dictate our choices rather than letting what's important to us lead the way. The thing about doing what matters is it's going to come with anxiety because if it didn't matter you wouldn't care. Oh so well said. I used to do a lot of speaking an moved away from it moved into other areas of interest. But oh my goodness the number i would do on myself before speaking and i was very good very well prepared new speaking about once you got me on stage there is no turning me off. You couldn't shut me up right. But what i put myself through before it was something else and over time over practice and everything that lightened up but there was still that My my speaking coach would say try and take that anxiety and turn it into excitement and some days. I could do that and other days. It was just a matter of forcing myself really to just do it right. And and i think you know the all gets a little bit confusing for human beings because sometimes when we feel panicky when we feel fear it's because we're endanger our body is saying you need to fight or flee if you're going to be safe but sometimes were having those feelings and it's you know it's a false alarm. It's a perception of danger when it's not really dangerous or what it is it's a quote unquote social danger that you know when you're public speaking you care that people think your competence and interesting that you have something of value to deliver and you think evolutionary early early humans weedon have fangs or clause or we didn't run fast. We had each other where social beings early humans who hunted and gathered and travelled together had a survival advantage so to constantly be checking your status in the group to make sure you know. Am i doing my part. Am i valued or am. I gonna get kicked out because if i get kicked out i'm dead and so we've really evolved to be creatures who compare ourselves to others and of course. Social media has made that far greater than it was ever intended to be. But it's this very normal natural thing we do to care what others think so that we don't risk getting booted from our tribe and so sometimes when fear and anxiety and panic and all that arise. It's not a sign that we need to go run and hide run to safety run to the comforts on. It's a sign that we really care about this thing that we're doing and when you're laying in bed at night and you can't sleep and the wheels are spinning in its to mayhem. You're not worrying about whether netflix's is going to go out of business. That's not what keeps you up at night. What are wheelspin over. As our family our loved ones our jobs the things that really matter the most to us and so part of act is really recognizing that our pain. Barring society is not the enemy. It's everything were doing to move away from it
Say Yes To Your Kids
"Message is pretty simple. Say yes now. This is not say yes to address the wedding show. This is say yes to your kids. This is yes to the moment that they want to play trains downstairs. This is yes to when your daughter comes up to you in plays wants to play barbies. This is say yes going outside. If you're in the winter playing in the snow this is saying yes to something in your life that you've been saying no to in our conversation. We talked about it a lot. That the ability of dad's just to get lost in the day to day stuff that we do and not be with the day to day stuff that we do is so so profound in core. That message is that we need to learn to say yes more because let me tell you. There are so many moments in your day. Because i have. I'm right there with you. This advice is a reminder for myself as well there are so many moments where my littlest one comes in and she wants ten minutes of my time and do. I just want to do something. I just wanna get an email out the door. And i hear you because during virtual learning if your kids are still at home when you're trying to get work done if you've got a fulltime job i get it. It is not easy. Let me tell you as my kids went back an hour into it on my on tuesday. When the first day it went back. I was already missing him for the idea. That even had that thought. I'm like are you drunk. It was absolutely chaos for the last two months of virtual learning but then my phone damn apple created this memory video of all the different things that they had done during my time with them this past two months and it was absolutely amazing. I remembered all times going sledding. All the time having fun outside all the things we built in the snow. And i was reminded that i did say yes quite a bit at times. Even in the midst of chaos even in the midst of just trying to get some work done and getting ill debt that. I can't do math mountains for my first grader. All of that it was hard. It was difficult and it wasn't easy but learning to say yes is a simple thing and it sounds. It's two words. Say yes but it can be such a shift in your mentality. That i need to leave what i'm doing to go do something else. I want to back this up with a story going all the way back to this past summer and twenty twenty that. There's many moments where i just wanted do work and my wife was home during the summer and i have easily just closed the door. Lock myself in and pretended like our head and eight to five job. But i didn't. There was many times where. I would recruit half the neighborhood to go on a bike ride. And we'll probably have like kids out with me sometimes and people give me a weird looks and i'm like don't worry they're not all mine but let me tell you what happens when i said yes in those moments when i said yes to those moments i had some of my best ideas for this podcast when i'm out engaging with my kids. I've had the best ideas for something next. I'd had the best ideas for new podcasts ideas on the other side of saying us so i want to tell you that on the other side of saying yes is potentially something that can change your life now. That sounds crazy because your mind probably saying casters. Just wild emotions. There's probably a fighting. Why would i want to say yes to that. Because when you enter that chaos and you learn to be calm within the chaos you create this idea that love is surrounding yourself because you're like man breaking super chaos right now but man. My kids love me. I love them. What a great moment in those moments where you can receive the love. The chaos all at once and find humor in sometimes. I remember going for those bike rides and just being like fuck. I'm one lottery amount riding bikes with my kids. It's summer it's just feels like a million bucks. And i mean now looking back and it's winter i'm like damn those days were the good ones but say yes because on the other side of that yes could be. The one thing that is ongoing to unlock repeatedly over time not made it'd be the first time maybe the second time but if you repeat this i am positive that you re engage with your kids on a moment by moment basis ten minutes at a time you can really make a dent in their behavior. You can really make a dent in their loved inc. All of that can be changed on the other side of. Yes so guys say yes when your kids come up to you. I you to do it for one week to give them. Don't tell me during do it. Because they'll probably abuse it but say yes. Every time they come in adult talent. Like i said. Don't tell them you're gonna say yes every time you can try to pause or try to come up with an excuse. Why not but every time. It's possible try to challenge yourself every time the next seven days after hearing this podcast whenever you hear sally yes to your kids when they want you to do something and notice how you feel differently after engaging ten minutes notice after seven days how much more gratitude you have for being a father noticed so much more gratitude you have for life notice. How much more gratitude you have for your wife because you and her both created this abundant ball of anger and love and joy all at the same time all of that can happen on the other side of saying yes

In addition the us will rejoin the paris climate accord the wsj's alex leary puts it into perspective. It shows that president biden is pretty serious about getting off to a fast start and also tackling some big issues such as the covid crisis. "He's proposing. What do you think are going to be some of the big challenges or hurdles that will face biden in these first days of trying to get these things done if there's going to be an impeachment unfolding during these early days of his presidency is going to distract him or congress from being able to act on these big ambitious plans. That biden has so talk me through some of the some of those challenges that he's going to be navigating. I think what's going to be. Interesting is to see biden over these next few days and him kind of having the national focus fully on him even after biden won. The election was declared the winner. Trump is still occupied so much attention and so much focus in questioning the results of the election. He used his twitter account to sort of so doubts. In everything. trump no longer has his twitter account and as of wednesday at noon. He no longer has the white house as a as a bully pulpit so i think for biden moving into the center of focus and capturing the national mood and setting the national agenda is going to be interesting to see how he and whether he can do that when he say interesting. Is your sense that that is going to be challenging for him that he may not be able to capture that national mood and attention as as swiftly as he might want to. I mean i think it's an open question given that the senate is going to be moving toward impeachment proceedings whether biden can control the legislative agenda. And what the senate is talking about when they are potentially going through impeachment proceedings for biden's predecessor. And then what about his cabinet. What do we know about how far along he is in creating a whole cabinet and whether those confirmations will be tricky so that gets at the benefits of democrats having the senate majority is that biden's nominations probably will get approved. The senate will confirm key members of soon to be president. Biden's cabinet those cabinet. Officials in charge of national security must be confirmed quickly as well as those in charge of responding to the current health and economic crises. The question is win and the senate calendar has been busy in part because of republicans spending several weeks after the elections still casting doubt on whether biden actually won the mob insurrection. That diverted congress for days also had an impact so biden's nominees are not as far along as the biden. People hope they should be and as far along as historically they have been no president. Since george h w bush in one thousand nine hundred nine has started his first day without having a nominee confirmed and so there has been some movement to confirm some of biden's nominees and in fact. There are five hearings on tuesday to start to consider some of those nominees so they could be confirmed soon but it still seems unlikely that biden well on his first day in office have anyone in his cabinet in place. Biden's time other hand has moved quite swiftly on filling positions throughout the other agencies throughout the white house. he's much further along than even president. Obama was at this stage in terms of filling positions that he can fill without senate confirmation so the senate really is a drag at this point. But it's sort of a question of win not for many of his nominees curious for you looking at this range of things. That biden is either done so far or prom superposed in his first as what do you think that tells you about the biden presidency. Especially when you think about so much of how. He has framed himself up until this point is a person who knows how to work with. The senate knows how to can return to the old way of doing things in in terms of negotiating and being a wheeler and dealer. And from what you've seen so far is your sense that that is what the biden president is going to look like war that he will be more in the style of president obama or president trump in terms of really relying heavily on executive action. I think it'll probably be a mixture from these early days. You're getting a sense of him. Still trying to walk a fine line. That past presidents have not been able to walk quite frankly he is signaling some big bowl executive actions using the full powers of the presidency to do a range of things and undo what trump did and then his legislative packages i think are indicating a little bit of both where there are things in there that are worthy of bernie sanders praise. He's responding in some ways to his own party and the energy and the divisions that still exist within it and trying to keep democrats united. I talked to james clyburn the weekend. Who's a top house. Democrat close biden ally. Who was saying that. Biden's challenge may be more keeping the democratic party united than it is seeking these bipartisan deals. The democrats still remain kind of splintered on a lot of issues. So you're seeing and some of these initial pieces of legislation biden's attempts to keep democrats together while also reaching out to republicans including things in these packages that he thinks will win some republicans support and he served with about a third of the current senate. So he does have some allies people in the current senate who know him who knows his style. Mitch mcconnell is certainly worked with biden in the past. So i think he's attempting to i. Go a bipartisan route. I mean he's talked for a long time about the fever breaking after trump which has always kind of seemed a little bit naive and like that won't happen. There's no going back. The boxes are even opened. And you can't just put the things back in the box putting the toothpaste back in the bottle. What would be would be difficult for biden but he keeps at it. You know and i think that that.

"Rules and boundaries that I have for myself to avoid getting sick. And I've been thinking about all the little ways that we break those rules how we violate our own lines in the sand who we make exceptions for and why All these coverted hypocrisies. Like do you actually hold the six feet when you're hanging out with friends at a distance? Or when you go on a job, are you wearing the mask the whole time? For me at least the stress of having to lay out my boundaries for other people it's really changed who I'm willing to see and how. I'm Stephanie Loose Man I'm a comedian Chicago. Steph is an areas she has the word chaos tattooed on her right arm. And I wanted to talk to her because she's navigating the same kinds of tensions specifically with her family. But parents don't don't don't tell me the truth like I think my parents keep things from me because. So steps parents, they're looking to buy property and she's been helping them out like going to see buildings in meeting with brokers and they're waiting around for the real estate agent show you know walking around as we were gonNA. Okay. So how's the weekend will up to and they go? Oh Yeah. Your cousin who just came from California he had his birthday party. And I was like, okay. who was on his birthday party? Everybody I was like how many people like forty people steffes parents show her a bunch of pictures. Everyone's dancing having a great time but there is not a mask and sight and I little I immediately backed off as I like six feet if you've been out and social at all in this pandemic, you've probably had a moment like this where you think you're on the same page about covert safety and somewhere in the interaction the other person shows you that y'all are not sharing definitions and I was like, Hey, look like I just we can't see more like today's going to be completely different. Actually I'm not GonNa see these properties with you. We cannot see each other more. Breaking up with them, I said to break off with them. So as I understood, it staff didn't WANNA. See Her parents for her own safety. But as kept talking, it was really clear that stuff's parents weren't the only ones risks. Steph is also breaking her own boundaries. I've got caught up a couple times that I'm not proud of there was this time when someone she barely knew how to really bad bike accident outside of her apartment. So like Letterman my house esque touch their blood, H-. I know but it was such a weird thing to like turn somebody away who was like her. So she lets. She bandages them up then. There was a kiss that happened. At the end and I it's not actually kissed me and I didn't. But I it's not like I turn them away and then I kissed him back and then then I kissed them like I think it's me and then I was like, Oh, my God. Kissing strangers isn't such a deal when it's not the middle of pandemic but in this new context in the personal, the bike were really embarrassed. They definitely didn't hang out again after that night. Then, there were the two parties stuff went to. The first she arrived with a mask, but let her guard down vast Kim. It was just super nice to be around people again, there was a softness to this feeling of life back to normal. Before four she was hit by a wave of guilt. And then I did it again recently. Honest to pardon. Me was like we all know the consequences here. All twenty of us here get a diet again I understand. We're GONNA die together. Because that's what it feels like you. Now, it almost takes the guilt off because you go. This is a birthday party. Nobody's being held hostage here. I don't feel like, I'm like I all these people in jeopardy I would feel that if I hung out with my parents but I don't feel that from going to the party because I do feel that everybody understood. What was happening? There is zero public health logic to what Steph is saying. There isn't even a consistent logic between how she's treating the party she's going to and the one that made her stop seeing her parents. This is my favorite moment in this interview though because it is absurd and also so relatable. Are Cove it hypocrisies need these strange reasonings. I have also had these same spirals of talking myself out of feeling guilty for putting myself and others at risk. Consciously and subconsciously. I think my parents would probably still see me but I don't want. I wouldn't want that you know. So is it a matter like whose life you're willing to put at risk? Well that's just it. It's not I. Don't think. I. Put those people's lives at risk. I do. I I. Did I mean I think that's Ron I did put their life at risk. But I. Like I'm just not going to do it I. You, know so..

"Was unanticipated. Relative I other crises you'd seen in your career you've been out for a long time did did it frighten you relative to that or did it seem like? Okay well, this is GONNA be another crisis but manageable. That's a great question I think that In public health part of the training that we do is sort of training how to roll with the punches so to speak, and so even though we saw this as a setback, it wasn't something that we looked at is something that was insurmountable and so you know we adjusted our game plan until we were able to get the test from the CDC. Mind you. We didn't expect that it was gonNA take three weeks and and there was you know that was a major issue for us because it felt like in many respects you know our federal partners were not helping us to the degree that we had been used to in the past. and. You know from that point forward there is a great deal of public disagreement about what actually when everybody said and did and. I want to pick it apart a little bit just to see what if anything we can learn from just how people react in the moment of crisis, and so you know the New York Times has reported on internal emails from Dr Michael Katz who runs the health and Hospitals Corporation. That's a separate department from the health. Department for people who don't Know How New York City government works, and as late as early March he was advising the mayor not to shut down large gatherings saying that it going to be as bad as Italy. At the time other reporting suggests your department was urging a much more aggressive response. But publicly at least I mean you had said at a press conference right about the in that people shouldn't be wearing masks. We shouldn't be ceiling ourselves off off in their apartment I mean. What did you think about how bad things could get in and what was the conversation the administration at the time? What were you telling the mayor? Of the things that we learned early on and and.

"You the first thing amaze me when I came to New York was so many tall buildings slight men. This is crazy. So imagine being just that visual you can socket Google period, the visuals of Rucker Park back in the seventies and eighties when came through it just like hanging offenses into the visuals of that are so iconic. That helped make basketball become the heartbeat of an inner-city which. Also rap music fed off of, and that's why they're one in one in itself. Nowadays. But what are your thoughts? please. Tweet US please call in I wanNA hear what people had to say about this one. I think basketball is is universal. You know like the Larry Bird and a in a in a cutout cornfield with no concrete just getting shots up and they and he's got he's got one basketball by the fire I remember reading this about him and one because the ballgame cold and stop bouncing. So he would switch out the basketball's as we get more shots up when it was cold outside that's no less basketball than kingdom in Rucker Park and thousands of people in pros. So I think it's universal. Thing and but I also feel like New York City has just more hoops that are full of people. When I drive around L. A., they'll have like these like high school parking lots that have like six full court hoops next to each other with no basketball players on them. It's always kinda like it's always amazed me and then I'll I'll see so many empty courts and in New York City, you'll see a lot of empty courts. You know you see a lot of people on those courts playing. Go j-league it twenty second time out because I WANNA do a distinction that you just said that I just said the May go over a lot of people's heads I said the essence. Of this conversation when you're talking about the Mecca starts on the BLACKTOP. Therefore means this was taking place outside outdoors. That's a vast difference Jacoby playing outside. For playing Jim. please. Continue. And also I think in a lot of other cities when you get good good and you're about twelve or thirteen, you kinda stop playing outside like that. You scooped up by coaches in leagues in a US and and just meeting your friends on the on the afternoon at two o'clock or walking by a court and saying I want to get this running. I've got jeans on doesn't matter like I just feel like. Growing, up. You can do that. You can do that grow up in New York. Not, not, all of the all of the auditor legends that play ball coming up in New York Day still put on in played outside. That's what I'm saying for the call. That's exactly what I'm saying it. It wasn't just like, Oh, now I'm good enough. I'm too good to be outside because now I've got read I've got this this practice at four o'clock inside and then this and that lead to spend the entire. went to rucker par do how many? Thousands of people listening this right now being like, yeah we did the exact same thing in Cincinnati. Yeah. We did. We did the exact same thing in Jacksonville? Yeah. We did the exact same thing in Seattle because it's like you know people play outside everywhere you know but I just feel like this. There's something a little different about the architecture and Co. New York City. Now when I say talking about playing outside I mean players everybody from Dr Jada Kobe Bryant playing outside while they're MBA superstars. That's different. was happening in Cincinnati. Drew Inside. Talking about. Outdoors playing outdoors free basketball to anybody who has eyeballs. That that's the essence of the game outdoors. In. At the park the people enough near did you ever play at the Rucker Doug? You right now is going to be like twelve year olds. Like it's now. Just, a court like if you right now, it'd be like a six year old and twelve year old playing you twenty one you know what I mean like it's not it's your plant the cage like, yeah, it's. Run it's WACK. They're like most of the time you know like the legendary cards is open for anybody to play it you can just wild with do it. How about this? How about this? Almost is rare now for great highschool prospects to be playing outside as it is to see a left handed shortstop and Major League Baseball. Because once you start to become a player like you said. The system takes you from the essence. See you start playing in your backyard. Why? Because Free Stop play at the Park Wa 'cause valuable and there so people want to invest in your Oh, you gotTa Jump Shot Hey court can complain, hey man, my uncle's a trainer man he wanted to push out there. So late. And Every Wednesday night at eight o'clock we played there and then once you start doing that took. You you just you hit the nail on the head, though the system takes you away from the essence. You know and I feel like that's the least true here. Prior played, it played a Parka. Played a P. Walk. Play outdoors. My whole. When I was in college, I was playing outside. Still. Walls Michigan. Staying, outside on. Saturday I was playing outside on Saturday. Kids want next. You know what I mean we waxman the. Dog Look Y'all at fourteen years a whole lake. Fourteen year old but taking happen we're forty like for forty I. "He's Jalen rose I'm David Jacoby we. Kobe what is it that we do? We give the people. What they saw. Donald Mitchell fifty seven points in a loss. In the Celtics, beat the seventy sixers and the raptors absolutely dominated the nets but we start. Late. Last night with Luca facing off against the clippers and it was just too much for the mavs Kawai Leonard and Paul George both scored a lot of points and got clutch buckets down the stretch to beat the Mavericks Jalen. What were your big takeaways from this late night contest the best wing dual in the league. And for those that don't know. Anthony Davis. Janas they're not wings, Paul George Koala egner locked down defensively. You you buckets off the dribble in pick and roll actions. They could go one on one. They do things that you can't just drop. On. The board to Kobe in. So those guys get going against a massive shows, their depp and it was terrific to see co I hit a couple of key buckets but don't sleep on more seniors contribution 'cause I've been waiting on him to provide. That level of toughness and productivity of front, and he was the guy that got under kp skin the ultimate left for led to him getting did. Not, just that, but we do have to celebrate Luca because we know what Paul. George and. Capable of and in Lucas First playoff appearance, he scored more than anyone in the history of the NBA ever scored in their first play-off experience and one of the things about this matchup. There was so tough for him as they have PG and Co. as you mentioned to the best wing defenders, they put in front of him and it really didn't matter what they put in front of him because he just kind of figured out luther little sidestep and even without KP and the game he kept this teen closed I was really impressed by Luca, what do you think? I love his game so much in his pace in his demeanor and. He he he kills you on all phases like he's not an accurate three point shooter juice yet low thirties. But every time he shoots, it seems like is going in because he has a signature shot is step back and his courses. Once he is inside the three point line players active, he could kick it out to the three point line earlier. Late, he could pass people open basket. He could throw the Lai pass and he finishes with both hands and he's bigger and stronger than people give him credit for. And he initially you know has some jitters in my opinion got off to a slow start us high turnovers in that game in particular to start to gain. But he went to the locker room like Maria Taylor said he got out of his own bag. Okay. Because he could cause Luca is that phenomenal player in? So to watch him get going against that defensive team to Kobe I agree you might be on something when you say these guys got a chance to win a championship in the next couple of years. And I love I. Love The way he passes when he penetrates seems like no stay in front of him even though he's not the quickest guys in the court and he doesn't just make the simple past of the corner or that initial health person he'll sort of look that person get to the second rotation than it hit steph curry like he's seeing. Things out there that shouldn't be seeing in your first playoff appearance to just sort of run the game and run the offense. The way he did was really really impressive. However, they did lose and you know one of the factors their loss was, as you alluded to earlier, the ejection of kristaps. Porzingis, who got two fouls did he deserve these technical fouls? Probably but maybe not humanly, do you know what I mean like the first one he maybe not should've gotten that one for reactively certainly reacted this one. He did not step into the sort of stop the altercation. He might sort of incident in made it a bit bigger of a deal Jalen there's a lot of backlash on the Internet on social media and amongst the media that he should not have been objective ejected. How do you feel about it? Not, many times I actually get to be a parent a rule. I forty seven I'm in a room with seventeen year olds especially a lay my kid. There are a lot smarter way more disciplined in me. Let me just tell everybody something. KRISTAPS porzingis yet what soft like of Dirk tweeted yet was petty light. Lebron and Patrick Mahomes felt. But you know what he did he broke the rule and when you throw an Air Punch in NBA playoff game, the officials are going to call a technical every time. That's just the rule. It wasn't personal. They didn't pick on him. When you interject yourself into a situation when you already have a technical foul, you have to be conscious of that. It was an NBA classic. A And you allowed that to let you get injected. Jacoby you gotta stay in the Game Man. Let somebody else that we don't know who their name is get into that huffing and puffing with more senior and give them a chance to take game on. Trust me he. He's GonNa. Tell he's not going to allow himself to be put in that position again and getting checked. You know when the clippers got into the next huddle, everyone gave more senior pound and we're like good work. Here for you know that's indicative I ask for. The other team is celebrated like that because you've got sort of you know you got involved into an altercation. We've been looking at the stars, these superstars with Luca PGA, Kawai KP in the way that they play. But one thing we also want to point out is what recall allows been doing with his press conferences. Let's just take a listen. Of California's work by. "Kick off this magical year of twenty twenty clarity. Let's begin with our first story. Series of all sparkle stories Martin and Sylvia. Now this one is a story about how Martin and Sylvia Sylvia's celebrate the New Year in their town. And maybe you all have something similar in your town. Were so very grateful to have you you all with us. We love what we do and we look forward every week to telling you more stories so here is first. First Day from Martin and Sylvia enjoy the first day Martin and Sylvia live in a tall house with lots of windows from their second story. Loft bedroom they can see their backyard covered in a thick blanket of snow. They can also see the Snow Snow Daddy and the Snow Mama. They made after the big storm. Martin who was seven did most of the snowball rolling and lifting. He was proud of his new seven-year-old strength and love to make bigger and bigger snowballs to see how much he could carry. Sylvia who was five and didn't enjoy lifting his much preferred to do the packing and decorating. She ran inside to to get hats and carrots and then added them for the final touch. The daddy was in a bright orange hat with ear flaps and the Mama had a long striped hat and a purple scarf both had carrot noses and sticks arms every morning since Martin and Sylvia would wake to check on their snow people as if to check if they hadn't moved about in the night right sometime. Sylvia was convinced that they had pointing out that the hat was slightly ajar or the arms were noticeably. Ably lower I think they were dancing. Sylvia would say with a smile. Snowmen don't dance. They're just snow. Oh Martin would say they don't move they they melt that's all Sylvia didn't like it. When he talked to her that way one morning they woke to see the Snow Mama and Snow Daddy covered in new snow a lot of snow? There had been another storm and while they slept and now the playhouse the garden posts bill. Bill's Doghouse and the snow. People merely looked like big lumps. In a smooth ooh field of white it snowed shouted Sylvia and just in time for first day said Daddy He. While making breakfast in the kitchen below Martin and Sylvia looked at each other with wide excited smiles on their faces. First are stay first. Day was a festival in their downtown's celebrating the New Year. The Gazebo in the green was lit up in colored lights and there were booths of hot chocolate and fresh baked muffins shops around the green always had special window displays displays and treats on offer. Sometimes there were musicians when it was warm enough the big event though was the ice and snow snow sculpting real life. Artists would take a chunk of pure ice and sculpt it into amazing shapes and forms. One time there was a huge seal with a ball on its nose another time. There was a king in His throne and one year. There was a winged horse. Sylvia loved that sculpture and often talked about it though. The ice sculptures were artists. The snow sculpture was is for everyone and often people formed in teams. People who worked in the same shop could form a team. School groups formed a team. Neighbors neighbors often formed teams this year. Martin Sylvia's family decided to form a team with their neighbors. The browns Mr and Mrs Brown were farmers and their children were all grown up now. Mr Brown was always part of every parade downtown and liked to ride right bell his horse and dress up in his pretend civil war uniform or an old time farmer costume Mrs Brown also enjoy dressing dressing up and wore long hoop skirts and walked along next to the horse waving and chatting with the people watching they were a lot of fun breakfasting Martin and Sylvia talked about the snow sculpting and what they wanted to do daddy said that the theme for this first day was magical New Year so the sculptures needed to have something to do with magic. Let's make a castle with a giant peaking. Its head out from behind said Martin Mama and Daddy got excited about this idea and started planning. They had the tools to build snow blocks for the castle and the giant could just be a huge snowman as they were talking. Sylvia interrupted I want to make a horse Horse with wings a flying horse. It was quiet for a moment and then Martin chimed in nats too to hard for snow the wings would fall off no they wouldn't shouted. Sylvia suddenly very angry now. Sylvia said Daddy. There's no need need to yell. I understand you want to make a flying horse but I have to say I think Martin is right. It's too tricky with snow. I I can see trying it with ice but snow wouldn't hold up. Yes it would. And I'm not making a castle and a giant said Sylvia now furious Sylvia said Mama about to reason with her but Sylvia quickly clapped her hands over her ears and frowned fiercely. Well well okay then said daddy as they finished up their breakfast and started to get ready. Mommy and daddy hustled. Muscled children to get ready so they could meet. The browns downtown Martin was enthusiastic and got himself already waited. Outside with Celia via was still upset was dragging her feet. She couldn't find her hat. Her Mittens or boots and then she was too tired to put any of them on. Daddy started to get frustrated. Sylvia you can get yourself dressed. You dress yourself every morning to go outside and work on your snowman man. So what is the difference about this morning. I'm too tired today. Sylvia said with a tight frown. She was still very angry eventually. They were all in the truck and on their way. Downtown Martin was remembering the snow sculptures from the previous year and said this this year. His best friend. Sasha in her family were helping the Volunteer Fire Department sculpture. He said they were going to make dragon get it dragons. Breathe Fire Fire Department Martin. Mama and daddy laughed. Sylvia was quiet when they arrived downtown downtown they could see it filled with people. It looked like a bigger crowd than last year. People were sipping hot. Cocoa in nibbling on muffins some were shopping and walking the green many were watching the ice sculptors working when they got to the green. They watched a sculptor after working on what looked like the inside of a clock. Sylvia saw one working on a Unicorn and pulled her mama over to look. After a cup of Cocoa Sylvia was feeling better in started to smile at all. The beautiful sculptures then came time to work on the snow sculptures and Silvia's mood changed again. They met the browns and Martin immediately told them about his plan to make a castle missile with giant. The browns thought that would be great fun and they looked for a spot to work. Sylvia folded her arms and refuse is to come. Daddy explained that she wanted to make a flying horse a horse with wings and they had all agreed. It was too difficult. Mr Brown tried to help by making light of it. All horses are hard enough as it is. You want to add wings my words Sylvia. You sure knew how to make a challenge. I'll stick to a castle made of simple bricks. Thank you very much then. He laughed and rubbed her hatted head with his big hand. She did not think it was funny. Turned Away Mama spoke up now Sylvia. There's no need to be rude. Oh it's all right said Mrs Brown kneeling to be Sylvia's level. Mr Brown doesn't mind and besides he didn't really understand any way did he. Sylvia Sylvia looked Mrs Brown with big eyes. Shook her head. The others left to get to work. While Mrs Brown's stayed with Sylvia they watched as Martin told all the adults adults what they should do. Daddy got to work on the giants body while Momma started making snow bricks. Mr Brown helped but mostly he told jokes folks. Mrs Brown giggled. What Mr Brown doesn't understand is what it's like to be the youngest but but I know what it's like? Do you know how many older brothers and sisters I have. Sylvia shook her head seven. Three brothers and four sisters. There are eight of US eight. Can you believe it. Sylvia's eyes were wide as she shook her head again. Mrs Brown continued so growing up. I had mom I had dad and seven others always telling me what to do. I never had say in anything. It was always do this do that. No that's not right do it. This way Sylvia nodded. Martin is always telling me what to do. He says my flying horse won't work. She looked like she was going to cry by. Mrs Brown nodded sympathetically. Is that what you want to build today for the festival Sylvia looked a little embarrassed harassed. We wanted to but the wings will probably fall off. Mrs Brown smiled. Not If they're invisible. Sylvia was confused invisible wings. That's right the theme is supposed is to be magic and invisible wings would certainly qualify for magic. How about you and I make a horse with invisible Wings that way people will be even more surprised when he flies. They both laughed Sylvia. I was feeling much better. Let's make the horse like it's going into the castle for food after it flew through the air. Yes said Mrs Brown. The Castle can be it's barn and giant can be the farmer said Sylvia and they went to work mark while Mama and Mr Brown made the bricks for the castle and Martin Daddy made the giant Sylvia and Mrs Brown made the Horse at first they tried making it stand up but that was too tricky so the horse rested on the ground with its legs folded when they all all finished they stood back and saw how everything fit perfectly. The castle was up two daddies Chin and the big giants head head. Peaked out over the top. Mr Brown gave him big ears and a huge nose. At the base was a door that was open and Sylvia's Sylvia's horse was contentedly lying down looking at the door a different family came by to look at it and the little boy there said. Look the Horse Mama. He's sleeping. Sylvia looked at the boy. It's a magic horse. He has invisible wings. The boys is grew wide as he looked for the wings. Martin put his hand on Sylvia's shoulder. Nice Horse Martin. said that was a good idea. Thanks said Sylvia and brother and sister. Her went hand in hand around the green looking at all the snow sculptures that the town created all welcoming in a magical well new year..

"It's close that sign is that's where i live. That's of course if you're going to say west virginia. Why are you not going west virginia pitt. Are you kidding like you're throwing ohio state in there. Come on joey involvement west virginia ohio but right. It's it's an ohio state and west virginia or not rival rivalry. Can you make you make it around the city. That's right. We're creating a rivalry just just like he's from ohio year from texas. Everyone got to get some love and we're all good. We're even arguing about rivalries. That's why it's so good coming up tonight. It's an annual tradition. Some of the best players in college football are going to be talked about. You've got two of the alabama quarterback you've got trevor lawrence the clintons and superstar who went the national championship so many players in the preseason herbie's tonight for more. Here's davis may we're going to hand out the preseason herbie awards tonight at seven o'clock eastern on e._s._p._n. Always have to be guys at burst onto the scene. Kind of breakout get two different level. Who are the nominee the breakout star yeah guys who as you said ready to kind of take that next step trooper hubbard last year backed up justice hill now it's his turn and i think this offense has a chance to put up some points and they're going to have a balanced attack. I think he has a chance to get out and space last year so impressed. He went over seven hundred yards now. It's his turn impressed with his speed last year when he got out in the open field kellyn mon- last year gave us a taste glimpse of what he can do at times jimbo fisher's offense. I think the consistency is where are you gonna see a difference. Virtually every receiver except tied in is becka right. There is back. I expect him to put a huge numbers in that second year jimbo system dylan moses now. It's his turn always when oakland when alabama has a great defense they always have great leadership in the middle over the years. It's been hightower. It's been a role mclean. It's been c._j. Moseley it's been reggie ragland. We thought it'd be him back wilson last year. It was not this year. It is moses. The herbie award for breakout breakout star goes to alabama linebacker dylan moses. He's been waiting on this kirk. He's been a star in recruiting surplus into is in about the seventh grade. This didn't have to have that leadership. He'll probably be playing with freshmen beside yeah yeah. They've got an angry football team after the way they performed on the big stage in the national title. I don't think it's an addition by subtraction situation with max wilson leaving going onto the n._f._l. Dig allows moses to kind of take over and being that guy. I don't think he's going to be a raw reggie. Gee raglan kind of guy. I think he's going to be a little bit more of a c._j. Moseley type. He's a quiet leader which is fine. Everybody leads differently but somebody on that defense needs to emerge because when bama has an elite defense they have an individual guy that kind of steps up to provide that i think he could be the guy he went and met with sabin after that clemson game he wants the type of leadership role on this team of course the herbie's always built in the crowning moment big..

"The opportunity. The rest is history college. Football's clash not just teams but of cultures identities rivals hate each other it just talk about respect only one way you get respect s by looking somebody in the eye for sixty minutes say hey baby here. I am now. Let me see your runs through now. That passion separates college football from every other sport in the united states unless your passions are strong enough word this report. We play a team here. National champion team team the team. I will tell you there is so much great content coming up as we celebrate the one hundred fifty th year of college football in a game that we all love one of the great things about this sport are the rivalries mcelroy. Which rivalry game do you wish was played texas a. and m. texas because both both fan bases. You can survey longhorn fans and aggie fans and the boat tell you we don't need that game. We're better than them now. We've left them behind. That's exactly what the gain needs to be played. I'm from dallas texas and yes texas and oklahoma was always a rivalry that i put front and center of my childhood but texas tech sanam around thanksgiving giving was one that i always had such a huge interest in so the fact that tech sam is now gone onto the s._e._c. and texas becoming resurgent in the big twelve. It's one that has to absolutely come permission here sooner than later so i'd love to see it play. I agree with you greg. I haven techs go to the s._e._c. See but again. I go back home. I grew up in ohio which is right across the river from west virginia. I would love to see ohio state west virginia play. I mean the border states the plane each other. It's fun. That's what makes college football different as the robbery games and if we could create more of them i think it just helps out the sport now for those of us. Who have the same reaction. Some of us had when when joey pits this west virginia ohio state we're thinking what is he talking about. How is this even a rivalry game well. We'll show you one hundred five miles news from columbus to morgantown so just over a three hour drive to get from campus to campus. There's a look okay okay. It's close that sign is that's where i live. That's of course if you're going to say west virginia. Why are you not going west virginia pitt. Are you kidding.

"Network. Ken jalen make it hurts so good from bama is the new star of oklahoma. We'll talk transfer quarterbacks coming up next on college. The phone live the welcome back to college college football presented by davies bed. We have two weeks zero. Oh games arizona make the trip across the pacific. Take on hawaii kevin supplemented his second year in the desert armed with khalil tate whose twenty six touchdown passes last season and were fourth most in the pac twelve so mcelroy. What is your quarterback crystal ball saying about a guy that last year was on the cover verve sports illustrated and khalil tate is perhaps the heisman trophy favorite bryce love or the two heisman trophy favorites going into last season just think about bad for a minute both of which kind of fell off the map early but i liked khalil tate and another year with noel mazzone the office of coordinator and kevin someone the head coach there in tucson use on you have to think they're going to get back to doing what take did so electrically there at the end of the two thousand seventeen season a little less throwing a little more running and a healthy tate can provide real spark to an offense so that might become must watch. It becomes a shootout there on the island against hawaii. I think we've focused so much on khalil tate. We don't really focus on someone has to win. Games and it's not like the year before arizona won a ton of games and last year they didn't. They weren't very good. When khalil tate was good good versus last year when he wasn't very good they have to figure out a way for this football team to win football games and if that means khalil tate doesn't run for as many yards or passes for more yards whatever it is kevin someone better figure it out pretty fast and defensively domestic stop some people and give their quarterback a chance to put some points on the board those. I thought that was the perfect marriage tatum. Someone just didn't get your one in tucson for either of them. Let's go to perhaps one of the most notable transfers this off season. Jalen hurts leaving alabama to go to oklahoma hurts. No pressure cuyler. Mary baker mayfield number. One picks heisman trophy winners mcelroy had is this all worked out for hurts who a lot of people there have around. He's struggles throwing the ball. I'm still curious to see what this off. It's going to look like now. Lincoln riley is a quarterback guru. No one's going to argue that but anyone that suggests jalen hurts throws the ball with the same level of effectiveness baker mayfield kyla murray. They're not watching the same tapers tape. I watched the last year so we'll they resort more to a quarterback run game. We'll they slow it down. Just a touch will rely more throws that are underneath giving it to to the wide receivers letting them run with the football because jalen hurts just not a naturally very accurate passer now he's grown a lot and improved over the last few years but hasn't grown to the point where he's going to be the first overall pick so i expect this offense to adjust slightly plus then run the football and melton a little clock. We'll take a little pressure out that defense to joey. I think he's fun to watch and i think he's going to be better. You thinking offense greg when you watch oklahoma's offense regardless of who the quarterback is they always have wide open receivers running and i made a statement a couple a couple years ago when his baker mayfield. It was hard to tell how good baker mayfield really was because the offense that they're running guys were wide open. I i love watching this offense because of the openness now we talk about big playability ability to take off running dealing herself as well as anybody and again you you can see like if you can do that in the big twelve you can run the ball as a quarterback. You're going to open up a whole new realm in this offense and i think he's going to be extremely family..

"Advance a little bit further. The expectations are high but i think they're reasonable. Just knowing how talented this young man is had a chance to call the clemson spring game in having the tencent with davos and his office and talk about whatever lawrence was in the spring and that will san he been so good that he really didn't have a chance to coach him because he was just on with everything thing and then he had a bad day and finally got a chance to jump on him but he's been that good that dabble hadn't had to do coaching this young man and you can see it in the clips that did you show dare greg. He's throwing the ball. Ross higgins outside their six six so he just brought up there. They can go get it. Rogers is back in the backfield this offense this is abc loaded and for young quarterback to have the competence and his receivers and he can just throw them anywhere and not six guys going to go up and make a play for you. Come down with it. <hes> that's just going to elevate his game and i think by the end of the season we you'll definitely be making a trip to new york because not only is he good but he has great weapons around him. You mentioned t higgins. He came in at tenth and mel kiper jr's latest big board for n._f._l. Draft projects and scare justin ross is also a sophomore with trevor lord six receptions hundred and fifty three touchdown in the national national championship game for ross. You mentioned daboh sweney who came out swinging winging after it was a looted to that perhaps alabama was tired in the national championship game davos says and i quote my thing on that is are you serious. They're tired tired then you look at clubs when we twelve games by twenty plus who really challenged alabama s._e._c. They didn't get challenged anybody until the georgia game people get amnesia five six seven years ago. The rhetoric was that an a._c._c. team is not going to win a national championship because they don't play anybody during the season so then they get to the postseason and they're just just not prepared for the bad boys well now. They flipped it around in. The only reason we're winning is because we don't play anybody in the a._c._c. See that to that point. I'll give you this the a._c._c.'s that one team. One team ranked in the top twenty in its clemson s._e._c. See has six the arguments there with the rank is talk and season preseason rankings of mcelroy. What do you make dabbles comments. Why are we still kind of disrespecting the tigers. Daboh paid someone and planted a reporter out there to ask that question to create that edge because everything i've heard about clemson last year and clemson this year is just how fantastic they are but that's not really how clemson's been built. That's not how clemson got to this point. Clemson has found an edge every single year including last year. When data came out famously said oh we don't worry about us. Hey we're on the rusty al-basra on the roy bus and everybody else a- all this talk about bama. Don't worry about us little clemson over here. He's created an edge in a mantra and that they don't get any respect. It's absolutely ludicrous because clemson is one of if not the premier programs in all of college football and the scary thing is they're only getting better especially with trevor lawrence his youth in the youth..

"Improved. You wanted to see him. Take over the program become the face face of the program and he has taken that step practice is different now than it was when he first got here now. He's running the team. If you hear you're a voice on the offensive side you here justin fields and that's what you need from your starting quarterback. He's making plays he standing in the pocket because greg is you know in practice this quarterback stay in the pocket more and have to the ball downfield and so he's doing a lot of that. I'm pretty excited to see just how good he can be throwing the football. The ball is not going to be dwayne haskins with fifty touchdown passes but it's gonna be a lot better throwing than people think and if you guys remember this time last year going into ohio state season there the controversy surrounding urban meyer in the cloud that that put over the program at a very towns a team that is no longer there fresh start under ryan day still ahead on college football live. I believe the best true freshman quarterback we saw last year. Trevor lawrence has long idled. "If you're watching college football presented by ben we know jim. Harbaugh is back in the headlines for a line in a forthcoming book in which he is quoted the same hard to beat the cheaters exactly which schools he was referring to it is unclear joey greg and matt back with you on college. Football live mcelroy. Let's start with you on this one. What do you make of jim. Harbaugh comet summit. It feels deflection. I mean naturally jim. Harbaugh has always trying to create some interest within the program especially in the off season but he's essentially saying that teams are tilting the playing field in their favor. He talks about how it's hard to recruit on the same playing field against some of those teams that he's referring to. I went back and looked at the recruiting classes and how they finished while jim harbaugh has been ann arbor they have not finished lower than eight with the exception of one year where they finished twentieth nia because they could only sign twenty players because their team was extremely young so i'm trying to figure out why he's deflecting attention from his program. Yes the performances have been subpar offer michigan at times but this is one of those things. I just don't understand why he feels the need to go there. Joey the fact that we're discussing. This is a win for jim harbaugh. He would love to discuss anything besides his record against ohio state his record in the big games and since he's been you're correct. It's all been the statements about how stuff off of the football field even statement. He made about urban meyer early. In the year again. It takes away from focusing on the fact that he's recruited critic very well in the bigger games for michigan they had showed up and played very well. This is his chance to to make that right but right now. We're talking talking about things that jim harbaugh said as opposed to what his team has done on the field and you imagine comedy set about urban meyer. He said controversy follows him urban. Wherever he goes and harbaugh the record could speaks for itself one and nine against top ten teams in his four years in ann arbor michigan has coming back shape patterson first time a quarterback has come back and returned as the starter since harbor turn to ann arbor greg. Is this the year that that he needs to get it done yeah aw because if ryan day takes over at ohio state then you can no longer discuss it as well. He just can't get past urban meyer..
