"Listeners. It's molina welcome back to talking tech co host. Mike snyder is off today as the delta variant of the cove in nineteen virus runs rampant throughout the. Us we're starting to see a renewed push to get more americans vaccinated and we're also seeing a lot of businesses and governments step forward to require more employees to get the vaccine for example president. Joe biden said last week he would require federal workers to verify david vaccinated or undergo regular testing. We've also seen companies and some local governments. Do the same. Even broadway said it's gonna make the same request of theatergoers before they can attend to show this of course means grabbing that cove in nineteen vaccine card that verifies that we got our vaccines. The question is how do you carry it because obviously it's not a small like i personally can't fit it in my wallet if you have a bag in a purse. Maybe but then you're also dealing with the annoyance of digging for it and pulling it out every time or because it's only the one card you might end up losing it. Fortunately we have something that we carry around with this all the time that can offer solution and that is our smartphone I write about this on tech that today dot com. I offer a few ways that you can add your covert card your smartphone to make the process easier and allow you to keep your card at home so you don't have to worry about losing it. Let's start with the easiest path which is take a picture seriously. It's that simple. You just put it down on the table. Hold it in your hand. Take a picture. You're done couple other things you want to consider. Though if you do this you wanna place it in a hidden album. So it can't be viewed in her library couple of reasons for this if say someone is using your phone and they're looking through your photos they can't see your cova card there but also you avoid that awkward scenario where you're having to find your cova card for some reason in your camera roll and you're you're having to scroll through repeatedly pictures of your family or dog your vacation just to get to one photo that you need to verify that you've been vaccinated. This takes a lot of that issue out of the way and you can have just one album with that. One image that alleged to quickly access it. If you plan to do this on an iphone basically what you do is you go to the share

"Forced to and the dealer turns it over in the and then They're awarded the pot. If they have the best hand like a lot of monkeys would end up cashing. I'm not exaggerating. If you put a monkey at each table who is trained to throw away. One card does any random card you would have a lot of monkeys cashing in this event. And that's a tragedy. It is a tragedy that a monkey would have a fair chance of cashing at an event. And i always say that's test. You need to use when they come up with gimmicky world series events or when there's super late registrations have also talked about how some of these late reg events where they allow late ridge like way too late to where you can register super late and just fold every hand to make it to the money and someone even try that and made it. I say if you could train a monkey too late ridge and then have it. Just sit there and full each hand and cash which easily could then again. There's something wrong so that really degrades. The caching at main of at any events like a world series caches need to meet something. It's bad enough. They've degraded where now fifteen percent cash into ten now in some cases that's helped me. I've cast rather is would have would not have in other cases. It's hurt me where i have made the final ten percent or it's times a lot better than the final ten percent and of course those between ten and fifteen percent who cashed. It takes some of the money of the price pool that i would have gotten so i think overall it's actually hurt me because i most of my caches have not been in.

"Fast. Yes absolutely that is the place to go are actually actually should our listeners. Listen for here when they hear this clip good question so the first thing is think about what words. It does aubrey to signal. That she's paraphrasing or maybe quoting someone right. So what words does she use then all about. Why does she do this. And also why is helpful to not only the speaker of the person who's speaking but also to the person listening. Okay so think about those things. Maybe take notes while you're listening and we're going to talk about it after we get back all right. Let's go into it here. we go. I've gone the same brand. I was talking about at this metaphysical or they're like. Can i do a tarot card reading for you. And she was like sure and she actually wrote down the cards. Because i knew i wouldn't remember so. They pulled one card and it was wellspring was the name of the card and this was about the inner child and this is where they first were like and she said i feel like it was when you were six you need to have some healing and then you'll feel a sense of peace and then they pulled a card called the ancestry card which is about where your family is from and then they would like read. Something based on that were like has your as your family involved in the celtic culture. And she said she actually has celtic not on her foot which the question tarot card reader would not have known about so now she's started looking into these ancestral connections and then the last card was self reflection which was just that she was saying you need to do a lot of research a lot of self reflection to become your higher self and then you will be at peace so she loved the tarot card reading at brought her a lot of peace michelle so that was the clip. And you know what's next michelle. What can we do with what we just heard..

"The door related to that sense so i feel like a lot of people don't realize that you can claim as legitimate business deduction would about purchasing a vehicle through your company. Yeah you can do that That heavily audited. It just depends. I will say the part about that. This heavily edited is whether you use the standard maladroit as a deduction each business. Now that you drive is like fifty seven and a half cent per mile or whether you use. Actual expenses is a very similar to the home office chain. You get a choice on whether you want to use the standard maladroit or actual expenses. So i think that that. That's the part that gets kind of tricky. You wanna make sure that everything is documented. Yeah that's what it sounds like. When i attend clients home there's normally a trip fee that i charge them and that fee is kind of separated outside of the sometimes if there's over a certain amount of hours then i just waive the fee but the trip v. helps me calculate my that. I'm used in my car. But i was thinking like i have one card the only car that i have and putting a lot of miles sometimes in one week i can have like if it's if it's the first of the mind like that first week i'm going to have a ton of clients so i'm using a lot of mileage on my car and i was thinking i should probably consider a company vehicle so these are these are great conversations to have. Is this good to know so. Is there a way to expense our business close or is that something that we can do like. This is a fashion podcast. I'll check into every right. It was a little overwhelming put. Things are worse for my dad than i thought they were. The three cards spread was a situation. How i feel and what i should do so i went through and did like this. Big like research on it and Are like did my spread and pulled up what i felt. I'm just gonna do the takeaway for everything. So i didn't necessarily connect to the individual cards however i did notice an appreciate that Major qena was pulled for the big picture question. A cup card emotion was pulled from my feelings question and a one card energy and strength was pulled from my action card. So i thought that was really cool and kind of fitting so If i went back through and reevaluated that i could kind of look at it and make what i wanted out of it but that was just something that school so then i went through and pulled all the stuff that we're here for. Yeah i thought was just kinda snippy and there isn't as much as there usually is. And for that i apologize. But when you're going through and you're like detailing out the cards and what they mean and the interpretation like and also gets real personal real fast. Yeah to say and it goes back to a lot of that like in the moment interpretation. Yeah no so it was. This was a hard one to document is as far as like what 'cause like. Sometimes i would just be like in the middle of an existential crisis. I know shocking. I would literally just not even like lay them out. Not shuffle them anything. Is you get multiple pieces of the nba logo man logo that you put together to create the full logo man. I'm so here. You can see some of the draft stickers and the rookie stickers. I was telling you about alongside lebron james. Here's a lonzo ball card that we pulled and you're about to get some of the top cards pulled here in a second max. My son my eleven year. Old son is ripping the pack. Now here's a lauri markkanen fat head. That i was telling you about earlier. These are pretty cool. Here is a piece of the logo. Man that i was telling you about so again. I think this could be really really interesting if you were to take all the different pieces of the logo man potentially put them together. Get them graded something like that could be worth some money one day. These all of these fat heads graded these stickers. Will grade really really well. They're in great condition. There's a joel embiid shiny hollow sticker. Here's a washington wizards team logo hollow. I mean i just think these are super fun to pull. It's not boring where you basically get a bunch of commons. It's really really interesting. You're getting a new look a new feel with each sticker. Now the card can be underwhelming. I'm not. I'm not gonna lie. You get one card and a pack so that can be underwhelming but you do the chance to pull the top guys and when you do that it's great and the card is in grave condition and should grade well sharp corners. I've seen on all the cards. Really nice services. I've seen on all the cards and the white borders typically grade. Well again super fun to you. Never know what you're going to get. When i was a kid but it brings me back to the days of in the nba hoops. The old flare packs. Is it without going into it. Because we're going to go into it. Shore i think what it is is the dak that you are working so it is drafting right. That's the bang. Okay so the both of show it is. It plays very similar to seven wonders in a lot of ways. You are drafting cards. Those cards are going to give you resources. And then you're using those resources to build the cards. You're drafting okay. So literally the same kind of setup and same kind of experience so without further ado josh. What is it so this game is. It's a wonderful world. I believe in the us. The publisher is lucky. Duck games the. The publisher is actually la as you Which is a french publisher. So i believe it's lucky. Duck that that has distributed this and leaves last. Yeah and in. it's a wonderful world. As i mentioned you are car. Drafting You are each around going to get a hand of. I believe you get a hand of seven cards and you are going to be Drafting those around the table And as you draft them just like in seven wonders you immediately reveal them like all. Every person selects one card. Put it face down. They passed the rest of their hand. And then you all flip that card face up and reveal it and then continue around the board. Now when you flip them up you are putting them into Your i can't remember what they call it but it's kind of like a holding area for that round at the end of the round. What you are going to do is you can. Moot is one of two things to do with those cards. You can move them into your Building area which means they're under construction and you are going to be trying to build them or you can discard them for a certain number of different types of resource cubes and there's green resource cubes. Red blue white black resource cubes all of different like rarity and abilities and things like that And so you can discard them to immediately gain those resource cubes to place them onto the things that you're putting in your building area which will allow you to build them. And then once they're built they will actually provide resources to swap. Most cards will provide resources to you. If you can produce and then add to.

"But if your opponent doesn't want to let you have that they can let you not have that they can. But i do think rivergate is a very interesting choice when you really get into like the The in game choices involved in that. Because it's too challenges of any kind attack or defense right so your opponent can always elect not to attack you if they're worried about the rivergate and there's virtually nothing you can do about that but you do have your own to throw at them and now they're in a very interesting position. Where is it more effective to deny you. A draw to from the rivergate and you lose one I'm gonna say card at command Since we brought that term up earlier right zero only really netting one card and you are losing gold out of the actually. You're probably losing to gold out of the deal the what you invested plus its potential income Verses them trying to awkwardly the defendant but still loose which of course gives you the claim effect or even just let it go and oppose which gives you power and the claim effect. I honestly think rivergate gives a lot of interesting gameplay. I mean that's fair. But i think i think it's requires game play. I guess you could say in a way that iron gate doesn't like yeah you higher higher or the most laughable one in fact i think the gate this one might be the only one that actually requires gameplay right all the others are w like if as long as you're playing a stark deck. That isn't some weirdo. Start back you get it right. It's he if each character. You control has stark affiliation guards right this cards laughable it intersects for that is the lowest bar for literally any of these You know and it's like nightwatch night's watch carefully bottom. Although i thought about nights is that i don't i don't remember now if this came up in the rules So this is a terrible time to ask this but can you trigger while you control no care no star characters at all like on your but see in the rules if you can show characters all you can trigger. You cannot trigger ability. Okay so there is. There is a potential Twister oh yeah. That's right in the country. That's what i get for. Only using the rue the rollover pop ups due to i clicked on it will. So so i mean look again trade-off you have literally no characters in play. You need the draw at that point. You will say that but you know it's just a child is action you could be you know. I'll lose this military challenge. I'll trigger my old gate now. Okay claim right. It looks like it just went from legend maker. This one looks like there's like a papercraft behind it. Yeah and that some. Somebody put the actual like not. Even the the the shell of the clamp row but its face than like the little blue round balls around in In they just set it on top of this piece of paper essentially or this like it's paper cut out like multiple different Are styles in this to make this one card yes it just. It's a claymation so you know it's good but clay mixed with papercraft. Yes i love the core. The core look so cool it honestly it looks like a pseudo dancing. I could see that and the other. The other side is like Person trying to like. Hey what's going on but but that one gets number two. Yeah with the one that gets the number one is from. Oh my goodness. I'm doing this wrong again. "one card" Discussed on Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution!
"If you're a parent who is brand new to homeschooling The great way to start to rebuild those relationships and kind of undo the pressure of school. And i think for mom to this is a really good way for mom to just let go of some of that pressure that we feel like we always have because they know for myself. I always feel like we've got to get to all the books. We have to get all the academics. We've got to check all the boxes and these boxes that can be checked through fun They are just like we would consider an afternoon of cooking or An afternoon of arts with artist study or a nature walk. We would consider all of those things academic enough to check off a box game. Schooling can be that to sue ya. I love the idea of using game schooling. Excuse me as part of a d. Schooling plan in general. Because you're right so many new home schoolers come towards home schooling with the idea that we need to have this exactly as it was in the classroom. The time schedule the amount of time that we spend on particular subjects and so does an parents can really struggle to make that transition because it's not really mitt to look like that and so when you take a little bit of time to school and see how fun you can have while still learning and still getting his books in. We're not saying don't do the books at shawl but a little bit of de schooling time where you just have fun for a while and then continually make sure that your infusing some fun things in amongst the books then you can really set yourself up for some good success. Yeah yeah i love that. Let's talk a little bit more. No functioning skills when it comes to games going. But then i want in a minute. I want to talk about your nature studies which is a total kind of rabbit trail. But you mentioned earlier. And i just think they're fascinating and so i want you to talk a little bit about those in a minute. But how can game playing built functioning skills in our kids. Okay so in the last episode. We talked about functioning skills. Being things like paying attention remembering things the way you process information once it comes in through your eyes or your ears. your logical thinking skills and even it your comprehension abilities and so games are inherently doing those things for you helping you to practice those things and so when we practice those things in sometimes when we practice them a hard we can actually exercise our brain kind of like we would exercise your muscles and so When you do a game. I mentioned spotted in the last episode. I'll tell you about another game here in a second but when you specifically play these things because you think i really wanna work on this particular kiddo who struggles to pay attention or this particular kiddo who struggles a little bit with comprehension when they read something or when they hear something then you bless your students with exercise more their brain you're actually building new connections in their brain so that they become better at this functioning skills so you can almost equate it to when we play game that is practicing something that we learned in history while you're strengthening the skills of remembering what they learned in history or when you're a game because you want to practice some skills who social skills the social skill of being a good sportsman Then that's what a game can do that for you. Well you can also practice games for these functioning skills so another example of that would be. Let me think of a really good game. one that i loves blink. Blink is a card game and blink. You can use it as the directions tell you which is a really great brain training. Call these spring training games. So brain training are the ones that i'm considering really working on those executive functioning skills. Okay so if you play the game as it says in the directions you are practicing many of those skills but you can also do it another way where you are forcing these kiddos into some really really focused attention and memory working memory. It also requires well not doesn't even require processing speed but it improves processing speed win over and over and over again. So if you don't know what blink is well it's these cards that have shapes on them in those shapes. Come in one twos or threes. i think. I don't think there were fours and those shapes. Come in a certain color so you might have a card on it. That has one red star. Another card might have to blue moods another card might have three yellow raindrops. And so what you do. Is you say. Okay sweetie pie and you can do this one on one with the kiddo. If you're specifically wanting to target some functioning skills you can say to put one card in front of you at a time in right now all. I want you to tell me the color you see. So you put a card in front of them and they say yellow and then you put another car in front of them and they say red then you put another car in front of them and they say blue and so you say okay. Well i timed you on that. You didn't know. I was timing you. It took you sixty seconds to get through the whole deck. I'm gonna do the same thing with you tomorrow. And i'm hoping that you'll be your time so it's like a game with themselves. Okay all right so you can imagine that doing that. How is that focused attention. While they have to be paying attention to look at that card and say that color quickly in order to beat their time house focusing memory while they have to remember. What did she asked me to look at here which she asked me to look at the color.

"Is just a common thing that it's you look at the car that is is replacing and the card that is being replaced. And you start trying to compare them against each other but that's that's doesn't actually how that works because like the card that's being replaced. It doesn't actually have any difference like you're you're taking these four carts and you're replacing one of these other seven cards and i'll be honest. The reason governor places probably because it had less text on the card than the others. Okay that's good reference though for us to understand so it's not about being like this is his special card is just that he has four cars and this happens to be the one that replaces one in the back and i will admit that is something that even myself like when we were laying out the cards and designing them. We'd like okay. Well like you know. Dragos card is obviously adalat. So that's a win that we used to replace something in the deck. But then you're like there's way too much sex carts actually in line and then you come back like. There's no reason it has to be that card. You're still replacing the cards out. Just this one doesn't like it. It's a purely like a bit of a mental like fluff thing and it's strange. Because i still do it but it was actually fabio. The pointed out of like what is the car that's being switched out matter because we're just taking one card out and putting it for you're right from from every perspective. It doesn't actually matter. Which card has the text of removing car knows or his last words that as fabio confirm or deny that or anything but yeah so a fun fact. They're and. That's that's something that i i see happening a lot. People are like analyzing the commandments. Is they're going to get into like a conversation about like well. Assault orders is replacing sudden retreats. And you'll are those cards like you're losing this one in favor of the other one..

I have right now in here. One comes with the station itself which is Two types of usb usb c and then the traditional usb connector and then i have a card reader for st cards. But it has two slots in it. And i have a card reader for micro esti cards and it has two slots in it. So here's the way. The thing works. And i have pictures of it in the show notes so you can go there and see it but this little guy has a power adapter. This workflow station has a power adapter and You plug it in and you set it up and then has a usb c connection on the back and it has a cord any connected to your computer. And if you don't have a usb c port on your computer then you can use a converter for the traditional usb connection so then you plug it in and you've got these four open slots on top and you just plug in the modules that you wanna use and so right now i'm going to plug in my usb module. I mean super use. Soy put flash drives and all that good stuff in the usb module and then the sd card reader. That's going to go on front. 'cause i use those babies a lot in then microsd card reader and i still have another slot open so i could get another module depending on What i use most or depending on what comes from kingston in the future and fill up that fourth slot. If i want so right now. I've got three of these little workflow readers here now. The cool thing about them is that they plug into the station via a usb c port in the back so it's really nice they just doc really's just drop them in there but if you're headed out the door and you wanna bring a card reader with you then you just grab the little module They come with a nice little. Cords all the courts and everything you need. Come with this both with the modules and with the dock itself does grab the cord. You probably already have one in my case. It would be usb c to usb c court grab it and then you've got a module that you can use a card reader a very fast card reader that you can use when you're on the go and you come back. You pulled out of your backpack and you put it in the dock. And how nifty is this. I mean first of all. It's just fun kind of fun. But it's also super practical. Now let me read you a little bit about what kingston says about it. The workflow station in readers give users the freedom to create and customize a file offload setup that fits their needs allowing them to transfer video photos and audio from multiple sources at once. And this is one of the major keys. It's not just like let's say you come back from you. Know a shoot where you have four cards way. You don't have to do one card and then waiting another car and wait and you just plug them all in and it sorts it up. You can do multiple downloads. What's very important. Whether on a four k slash ak multi cam shoot with portable audio recorders or filming. Be roll with drones and go pros with the customizable workflows station. Doc you can. Simultaneously connect the usb mini hub sd or micro sd readers that the shoot requires to transfer footage quickly. Workflow readers can also be used standalone by connecting to a laptop via the included usb c cable giving users the flexibility to have their workflow on the go right. So you can use it either way to keep the dock at your computer at home or in your studio. Grab the little card readers as you need and you know the nice thing about having them in the dock here is you. Don't lose them right so when you come back you put him in the dock and they're always like right there on your desk ready to go. You haven't misplaced me. You haven't forgotten where they are.
"one card" Discussed on Tarot Rebel Podcast
"About something. I said that before but something along the lines of what's our greatest power or our greatest. You know what. I'm trying to say like the source of power that we have this year at our inspiration as the flood out or maybe add some things like Something we need to focus on this year. It'll be a value okay. I kind of feel that will go with a how to achieve. Yes it does. Yeah that's true as how to achieve. Maybe we could pull more than one card for that. Maybe like cards. Yeah that'll kind of break it down like what is our us our power this year. What is in. yeah. And that's something that i would want to say to everybody listening when it comes to spreads are already pre set. You have a specific points while we have specific positions. You have to follow through. I don't think that it's a bad thing if you adopt unchanged spread if reach position instead of one card you pull two cards report card from tarot and card from oracle attempt to do to allow any gives a lot more merit analog more meat dude information at your receiving from the spread sadat's also a a thing to do as well just up spread. You sat before your self out. You adopted spreads so. I think that's a very very valuable lesson as well for anybody. That's listening to make it personal because it works for you your own that that's reading the spread so if it's not feel like it's you then it's not going to have such a powerful impact as if it would be if you are self traded. It does that sentence even make sense. I don't think so does it. Does it does it. Yeah absolutely because again. It's it's an intuitive tool. It's what helps you connect your higher self and getting as specific as possible like we're doing here is so How you get those burning questions answered and how you pretty much can again get the most out of a reading in. That is something that we haven't been away for a second. Yeah so i was just saying that getting specific as possible. The way we are is how you really get the most out of a reading unless something that you and i advocate for here on the podcast. Getting the most out of it because the thing is is that the torah works. According to the questions that you ask write your answers if you have a vague question you're gonna get a vague answer true very true so it's always a wise to again. Be very specific true. So what kind of design are we feeling for. This spread always. That's probably my favorite favorite part. When a have little vista gotta the design aspect of what kind of shape is going to be positions stuff like that. I kind of i don't know why. But i'm kind of feeling like a like a peop- yeah like a peak pyramid kind of design. And like the first card will be the pete the top and then.
Box truck goes over Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel rail, Coast Guard suspends search for person possibly in water
"Box truck drove through the guard rails on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel earlier today and went over the side into the bay. The Coast Guard and firefighters have been searching the cold water for the driver, Wavy TV and Norfolk says it happened near Virginia's Eastern shore about a 20. If you've ever taken this bridge, it's almost 18 miles long, two tunnels for shipping traffic and it connects the Eastern shore with Virginia Beach. This wasn't the first card to go over the side. Last year, a tractor trailer driver died of hypothermia. After his truck went into the water.
How Sports Trading Cards Went from Hobby to Asset Class
"So dan. i want you to help. Explain exactly how wild this year has been for sports cards with an example and that example that sticks out to me and shocks me every time i consider it. Is this record setting. Mike trout card. Can you tell me a little bit about the card itself. So it's a it's a two thousand nine bowman chrome super factor dan. Hey ducky is a writer and researcher for espn and a card collector. Himself it's got autograph on a autograph on grated. Basically there are three companies professionals Authenticator beckett s g c they grade. How perfect on a scale of one to ten a. Carter's so this might trump card is a nine so it's pretty. It's pretty close to perfect but the autograph is greeted at ten. So it's really close to perfect card can awesome. It's a trap route card also on top of that. It's a one of one so there is only one of these in existence yet. It's so interesting because mike trout in public is like a semi anonymous celebrity like a lot of fans casual fans and sports. Even don't really know him. But this card this one of one card with the perfect autograph. What did actually go for went for nine. hundred million. A new record has been set for the most valuable baseball card in history. Somebody paid three point. Nine million dollars for this mike trout rookie card. I know that when joe maddon was confronted with the information that he had a player who's card solta that much giving like. How much does the mona lisa goes for. Wow i'm into art. That puts him right up there with the mona. lisa's self. For what what is anything by a davinci or wow that is. That's that's pretty. That's pretty phenomenal. And it's actually. It's like yeah. I mean that's disappear question. And what was the previous record holder in terms of the most valuable card that had ever been sold at auction. The previous holy grail. Was you know the the honus wagner keys who six said turn of the century the twentieth century like early nineteen hundreds heart on. It's such a lower behind it. That's not happening with mike trump there. There's no incredible backstory to have his card exists. It's it's modern. It's not easy to obtain but it's not it's not like tobacco card that was pulled from from production really what happened to wagner was once thought is that wagner didn't like that he was being used his likeness is being used to sell tobacco the kids so he objected a pulled the card from production and that was that the other less known school of thought is that wagner he wouldn't be compensated for his likeness so he objected because he wouldn't be paid and the facts the truth which is a i like this story better it would be the like the earliest flexing of brand autonomy. It is remarkable what you say though the difference between his honus wagner card which does like looking at it. I'm looking at it right now on my screen. It's like this historical american artifacts that reminds me of like a daguerreotype from like the civil war or something it looks important and ancient and the trout card. The fact that this object can be worth more than any other thing that came before in modern times and the guy who sold this. Mike trout card dan for this terrifyingly large amount is a man named ken golden. So tell me a little bit more about him. What's the business that guy runs. Golden is ken. Golden golden auctions diammonium. Sins loan out nike sneaker. How much does that they work can in your eyes to me. It's definitely a six-figure iconic piece it is the most famous pair of sneakers in the world. Then he remains arguably the most renowned auction house for remember billion sports
The Bubble is Bursting for One Card
"If only i had started in two thousand eighteen. I'd be able to retire. I would have invested so much money into luke. Oh boy what. Four now luca. The silver prism the standard one. Those like those. Want from like two k and like february. Two eight k nine k. Now it's insane. What the hell. Hey how about this. I never knew cards. Went for this much money chris booker. The rookie was nine hundred. That silver prison nine hundred dollars all right. They traded for chris. Paul within two days they were selling for thirteen and fourteen hundred dollars. Wow well. la repeat that. I got to hear that again one more time. They were nine hundred bucks. When i checked nine hundred. No devon booker. Okay sorry okay. I heard desmond being in my brain out devon booker day traded for chris paul and within a couple of days those i saw him for thirteen and fourteen hundred in auctions. I mean that's how fast it really is like stocks. Now it's crazy. Yeah i mean. Stocks stocks are usually that good stocks are good but not that good but you could see people ran out there and it became supply-and-demand people. Were like book rookies. Because these are the next ones that are gonna fly up. I mean that's my understanding. I have somebody of done. Some research and have some had some conversations in recent weeks. My understanding is that if you're in the buying and selling business with cards and is very reactionary when it comes if a guy's name to an all star game or a guy. The team trades for big name player or the team. Their team gets hurt. Or whatever it's very reactionary and it's sort of i mean sometimes it's it's unpredictable from our standpoint. That's why i would say this. If you feel like you really know basketball. This is only tip. Give out daybreak. If you are thinking about getting into this. And i'm i'm not the guy as somebody that really knows about all of this stuff to to give you tips on where to look how to start all this kind of stuff because i'm not that guy Because i do get a lot of questions about that. Because we've mentioned on the show i would say this if you're gonna go into basketball and you're gonna buy basketball and you want to bank on somebody now because you think the cards are gonna go go do it. Now before this damn season start you've got about whatever two weeks because once the season starts it's exactly what you say of the night that guy drops fifty people go on there and try to start by rookie cards. Those jamal murray things went through the frigging roof at one thing. I think it's also important to have a frugal mindset when it comes to your finances earth when it comes to investing when it comes to investing in stocks or bitcoin are or even cards. I think it's important that you have enough of like disposable income like not like not like you don't need a ton necessarily like you do things that you enjoy and things that make you happy maybe start buying video games or whatever else it might be but you know you gotta have a cushion to support you in case things get real like jobs get lost especially right now during a pandemic investing a lot of money into something can be incredibly risky. Especially if it's all and one you know basket all in one player all in one stock or whatever you need to have a cushion to support yourself especially if you're somebody who you know is on the younger side and may not be living with your parents or whatever. I just think that's important to mention and what stocks as well you know sometimes being conservative and having stuff that builds long-term and grow don't for for i'm trust me i am. I am very much in the middle. But i think it's lawrence to offer conservative Advice for a lot of people who may not have A conservative mindset. But i'm by fall. I find myself in the middle. Quite often doesn't mean. I don't take good risks. So do you think it was unwise for me to use my tire children's college fund. The john mara was you find that on. Wise should have put it into luca. There's a lot of when you when you look at. What for josh cheaper when you look at what Steph currys and the lebrons worth now. There's luka doncic have a giraffe named after him chamrann. Jau wrath do
As Skymiles Lose Relevance, Credit Card Companies Struggle to Spur Spending
"Remember vacations. Not, so long ago. The idea of getaway was enough to persuade customers to pledge loyalty to one credit card or another spend enough. They'd say in your credit card points could earn you a flight to a tropical beach, a posh hotel stay or an upgrade to a luxury class of travel. But Americans aren't hopping on planes very much these days and right now many countries won't even allow you as travelers to visit. So credit card companies are scrambling to come up with new relevant perks that will keep customers happy and justify any hefty annual fees. That might take some work while customers have been more satisfied with financial services like retail banking and mortgage lenders. Overall during the pandemic credit card satisfaction fell that's according to Jd power and associates a recent survey by consumer finance website value. Penguin found that more than forty percent of rewards. Cardholders surveyed have closed a credit card since the pandemic began another third considered it to prove their value to customers. Card issuers are making it easier to earn and redeem rewards at least temporarily, and they're focusing on the priorities that customers have now American Express executive scoured consumer data for insight into how membership rewards point redemption change during the pandemic customers began. Shopping for hairdryers and golf balls instead of hotels, airline tickets according to a report in the Wall Street Journal maybe because they had to do their own hair and we're looking for socially distant sports. Rival chase is the customers are more interested in cash back than travel rewards right now. So the bank is partnering with MasterCard to reissue its chase freedom card focus on cashback rewards starting. September. Annual three, hundred dollar credit to offset grocery and gas purchases. Instead of just on travel competitor AMEX was already slightly ahead of the curve in the wide variety of merchandise that can be redeemed for awards. points, and Amex rewards can also be used to pay for purchases on pay pal websites like Amazon best buy and Walmart all pandemic era staples but tweaks to programs may not be enough to keep customers using their plastic credit card debt recorded the steepest drop on record in the second quarter as consumers cut back on spending and you stimulus money to pay off debt the New York. Times reports. Shrinking Americans typical sky high debt seems to be a good thing but consumer spending fuels large part of the economy as economic uncertainty looms. It's unclear whether frugality is the new black or if the right rewards will coax consumers to pull out those platinum and Sapphire Blue Cards. Once. Again.
How Do I Find the Courage to Be My Own Guide?
"Let's get to the letter I'm gonNA reach to you. Do your sugars a thirty four year old woman and I'm recently coming to terms with the fact that I spent my life being too afraid to do what I WANNA do time after time. I've let social norms guide me where I've looked others for their opinions about my next step my purpose while I've learned a lot from many teachers writers philosophers and therapists. It seems crucial at this point. I learned how to listen to my own heart and be brave enough to follow it. I WANNA be my own guide. It may seem ironic then for me to be asking for your advice. But I'm not asking you to tell me what I should be doing. It's how how do I learn to trust myself the way I did when I was a kid before I decided that other people knew better than me and gave them all the power. How do I learn to recognize my heart's voice and stand up for what it wants? How do I avoid falling back into that safe prison of what someone else thinks? I should but not what I truly want to do. Emily Dickinson wrote the heart. Wants what it wants or else it does not care. I know this to be true and I don't WanNa find myself back in a job or relationship or pursuit. My heart doesn't care about. How do I tend to my heart and keep it bay? The people the thoughts the fears that threaten this fledgling relationship between my heart and me sincerely hardward bound powerful interesting Have you asked yourself these questions when I first read it? I thought about our very first episode. And you know you're saying you're saying well. What what. What sort of been guiding precept in thinking about these questions of how you kind of get actualized and start building a life that feels more authentic. And what you. WanNa be doing on earth. Because you don't have a long time and I feel like we gotta as quickly as we can get to the things that really are meaningful to us and I thought about that. John Prion lyric that. I told you so many years ago. Your heart gets bored with your mind. And it changes you and heart bound is describing that my heart is bored with my mind But it's something even more than that in this case it's the there are other people and other voices. They're getting in the way of what she wants to do to whom she is been obedient and finds herself being obedient. So Hartford bound. You know when I read your letter there these questions that are kind of big abstract questions and I'm going to ask you to be more concrete about them on read back a couple to you. How do I learn to trust myself the way I did? I was a kid before I decided that other people knew better than me and gave them all the power. So my question to you is what other people. And how did you give them power? And how are you in your life? Giving them power you write how to avoid falling back into that safe prison. I love that safe prison of doing what someone else thinks I should do. Who are these someone else's you have to be specific about who they are and how to try to counteract them actively and specifically and there's only one way to really genuinely counteract them and that is to decide that they are not the voices who will determine what you do with your life at this point where you're at heart bound you're still bound up actually in those other voices in those other. People are those social conventions the fact that you wrote this letter. It's an indication that you're stepping away from that. And so you ask how do how do you learn how to trust yourself and the first thing I wanna say is that this is not something you learn one time. Do One time right. It's something that you do every day over and over again for years and years and years and the meaning of life that you put into action looks different at different times but it's always returning to the idea that you really need to trust yourself and I'll say that for me. I love this phrase brave enough I mean aside for the fact that actually a title one of my books. I love that you used this phrase. I need to learn how to listen to my heart and be brave enough to follow it and the way you do that as you just get brave enough not to have some big glorious life that you just cast off all conventions and other voices but you're brave enough to make one step in the direction that you WanNa go and that is for you. Heart rebound. I actually think it's your writing us this ladder that you've even popped your head above that sort of surfaced a enough to say you know what. I'M NOT GONNA listen to all these people anymore. I need to trust myself. That's the first step in my life. You know in really practical terms in every arena. I've had to do this as most. I'm sure Steve. You've done as well. Were you have to say this would be the thing that would be like the conventional the norm the thing that would be easier for other people around me and and some waste for myself to do? I mean any writer sample. We stepped into this profession knowing that it was probably a bad idea because you know most people need a career because they need to pay their bills right and the minute you decide to be a writer or an artist of any sort. You're you're you're saying okay. I'm going to take this risk and I'm not gonNA listen to the voices of reason and and security and all that stuff. I'm going to walk this. Paf heart bound. You mentioned relationships too. You know we're supposed to make nice. Were supposed to be in relationships. Please people around us. Sometimes you have to step off that path. You adopt a position in relation to all the people who love you that disappoints those people in your case. You're like keep thinking about you have to go off and do something that's crazy. Yeah and it's not just the going the idea of having going off and hiking the trail and it's not the inspiration the realization. The moment you say I'm leading lights. That doesn't feel real enough to me. It's the perspiration of at every point where it seems impossible and doomed battle through it. The backpack is ridiculous. You brought all this stuff along. Your feet are bloody your reason wild resonated with so many people because at every point you ran up against the real hard work of making an a difficult inconvenient decision. I would also say that within this letter this idea of how do I get back to a childlike state? A state where I trust myself and instinctual state and what I say oftentimes to writing students and try to say to say it to myself is look. Consciousness is by nature obsessive children. Come into the world obsessed that is they care about things too much and what happens with obsession. Is that socialized. We beat down the voices that care about things too much in that feel too much and part of the artist's journey. I guess is to say screw that I do care about it too much. I am to invest in. I'm obsessed with it and I'm going to be honest about obsession rather than trying to lead a safer more. Conventional approved life but it's an emotionally and psychologically inconvenient arrangement because you feel more and you face certain things about yourself that bring you away from arrangements that are there and especially in our culture to kind of keep you insulated from deep feeling. Yeah but you know. I love that you singled out this this phrase because I thought the same thing I I want to trust myself the way I did when I was a kid and you know kids will sometimes be at play and they will say these absurd things and create these sort of outlandish scenarios imaginative play worlds. Don't make sense to the people around them. They absolutely make sense to them. I remember you know like my son. One time you know he just. He found a deck of cards in a room and sort of far off room in the house and one by one he. He took one card at a time and ran to the other end of the house until he had stacked them at the end of the House and he was so determined it made sense to him in the only person. It didn't seem crazy to him. Yeah because he was so engaged in doing and you know when you said Al Gough. Maybe you have to go off and do something crazy what I think about that is. It doesn't matter if what if what you're doing seems crazy to other people right to you. It's right and that's how my hike was you know. Never did I feel so right then when I went off and did something that many others perceived as crazy that can like I agree you. That can be a very hard life when you first step off the path but I think the harder life is never stepping off the path while always to do

Garmisch just south of whistler fun little place cool like everything wanting to bury small little joint. That heather actually stayed in the car because again. I think you're pregnant at that point and she took a nap. I just went in and had a little flight by myself. You know really neat. People could be the coast from the brewery. No but it's called coast to Coast Mountain. Which is also a weird name. My name like it's just a weird. You're just taking two words and putting them together but it works and I love the hat and I'd like to branding but my number one favorite. So it's not honorable mention. Okay right you told me that we could go longer than fifteen minutes. Because now we have a compressor so we can put it on. Igt No if you read our post from last week. But I had the hardest time trying to get our videos out because if you video over fifteen minutes you have to do it from your granddaughter and it has to be an MP anyway. It was a whole long saga. But I bought the software. Because what does one do? I mean we needed. We needed to get the videos to you. We needed to get the videos. You so then Heather told. I said we are GONNA be fifty minutes is going to be hard for British Columbia said. Oh no no we got we got the compressor we can do want so. My overall favorite drink is strathcona brewing in Vancouver for two reasons. One Strathcona brewing itself has really good beer. Super Cool brewery really hipster in in like a gentrifying neighborhood for sure but they also at the time we were there and I'm not sure if the guy still does this but there is a gypsy. Burr call who runs a Burri called superfly. Meaning he doesn't have his own brewery brews at Strathcona and comes up and bruised. They're apparently lives in a van. No joke down by a river and then comes up to strathcona debris here and there and this was two years ago so things could have could have changed this super flex beer is awesome so they sell super flex at Strathcona brewing and their beers incredible and then bring has their own beer and their beer is really good too so those my if you want the best drink we've had in British Columbia head to Strathcona brewing. Try and try to get your hands on superfly which you can get in grocery stores and convenience stores to
Bruce McLaren Pt. III - Life after Death: Road to the P1
"When we last met up with Bruce the young. Qe had left his home country of New Zealand and made his home in England working for legendary carmaker John Cooper in his factory. Bruce's racing career abroad had a bit of a bumpy. Start but after two wins at the Medina of Formula One. Not because I would say the machias Monaco Silverstone Bruce was finding his confidence behind the wheel is Medina. Like Madina Right. That's the first time I've ever really called on to city in Western. Saudi Arabia Coleman Anyway. It's the one thousand nine hundred fifty eight German Grand Prix. At the Nurburgring Bruce Finishes Fifth Overall and first in the formula to class. He was hanging in with the formula. One cars thing about how Formula One cards. You have to stay ahead of to be fifth overall but still win. The form from the to us about twenty-one sounds about right I'm not gonNA contest that's pretty crazy. Just like bump up a class like yeah I mean that. Just shows the prowess over. Yeah Yeah So. After the fifty eight German Grand Prix Hayman's mechanic Colin set off for England a race in brands hatch. Which was the very next day which I thought was insane. What these guys are always driving to raise amazing. They may act like now Racing is very posh. I guess like these guys are treated as athletes like you mentioned in the last episode. There's just so much data on them. They're checking their pulse. And their heart rates you know they probably like decompress the dudes after race in like check all their muscles and stuff like back then. It was a pretty like rag tag almost like the circus is coming to town. Yeah and it's there was no thought for scheduling. Yeah I'm really it's like. Hey we have formula one race in Germany. How will we go to Britain the next day? And there's like there's a race on there I don't know I guess two races back to back. In a day holiday weekend we might as well take advantage. Might as well make a vacation out of. Let's get some Carl's junior on the way. So they managed to complete the three hundred eighty mile journey from the nurburgring to brands. Hatch overnight and cooking. Yeah Bruce Hop in the car and finished third at that race and by the way. He wasn't the only one who made it to that raise. It was like pretty much the entire field in Germany. It's like a huge caravan of big old haulers and like probably station wagons and stuff just ripping down the autumn. Get on the M one. You know that's a local reference to angle everyone in the Midwest right now is like yeah. Three hundred and eighty miles. That's your commute. Yeah how far was la to Albuquerque for high low? It was like eight hundred miles so not that impressive. Sixteen hours twenty five dollars. God that was yeah. That was yeah. It was tasty blames my heart attack on that show. He's like like we just shot season. Two of high low the Z's are awesome now But like she was like very concerned while. We're shooting it because the last season was just so hard on us. This one was way easier by last time we work in eighteen hour days for like a month in a row and I had a heart attack like two weeks after it was weird man like that show like gotten the rhythm of that like you said eighteen hour days it was like okay you wake up drives garage work all day and then come home sleep for a little bit and then just do that and then after like two weeks this is like just a weird kind of few mind state. I forgot to pay bills beard dream state and like it's not like we're just going and work in it was like the highest pressure. Just everything was going wrong so much stress constantly and just like I think all of us cried. I cried cried cried. I was angry writing my lyrics by Bruce's twenty first birthday. He had competed in eleven European races and he had finished every one of them. Bruce believes it was because of the shared meticulous nature between he and his mechanic Colin they always tried to be first to tech inspections. I wants to practice and always have the car looking in tiptop shape in his book. Bruce maintains that quote. Three things are important. Go a long way towards winning races. I think it's time for just a little. Reminder of what racing was like back then the reputation that open-wheel racing has today as of precision and other worldly engineering and safety. But that's not how the sport was perceived in the late fifties. Now let no. Let's just listen to how Bruce describes a race. In Avis Germany. To my mind it was ridiculous to have a race. On the Avis Sick. It proved nothing and it was dangerous consisting of two two and a half Moss straights at one end by a hairpin and the other very steeply banked corner and when I say steeply banked boy I mean. Steeply banked is around forty degrees. It sounds more like something you'd see in running man to full throttle than a sanctioned race. I just think about. That's the most ridiculous racetrack I've ever heard. Yes big old oval that's not even oval is like hairpins up. Both sides knows a big bank at one side maintains a Frickin slingshot around the moon apart. And then you have to go through a hairpin shoe like the shape of the Caribbean her family. Yeah yeah so like you could just maintain a two and a half miles so you can maintain just like top out speed for. I'm guessing like close to six miles. Said Yeah they are in the book he says I think the average speed for that race was like one hundred fifty miles hour. That's absurd you remember. This is in the late fifties. Cars didn't have frigging seatbelts back. Then I don't think no no. No he goes on to describe the racing. At the Avis Circuit Race itself was like a group of boys and dodging cars wheels. Touching noses entails bumping jostling for the lead. But we do of that one hundred fifty miles per hour. Dodging cars are just bumper cars. Doug Jim Jim can't get a loan. I'm going to get some Cotton Candy Army Kit. The Dodoma's ooh that sounds. I'm going to try and win stuff bare minimum. There's a part of the documentary where he describes these like really steep banks. And he's going so fast that like it's hard to keep his hands in the bottom of the steering wheel like it's point his hands. Yeah isn't that crazy? That is insane. Bruce's appreciations about Avis testified as a crash sent one of the competitors flying thirty feet in the air and ejecting. The driver. The car went thirty feet. Car was out. Yeah the rest of the pack was able to dodge the car and continued their Breakneck Chase. Down the stretch back. Then they didn't even have like What's it like lotion rounds? Yeah they never. Yellow flag doesn't sound like as long as our cars on the way that's like a man. Keep it going. Crashes like these were not uncommon in racing back then. Bruce's car through a connecting rod that race by the way and the ejected driver also survived his crash with a broken leg and four. Broken Vertebrae like our racecar driver back. Then I'd be like okay. I'm down to race. Thank God I blew karate. Yeah certainly marina okay. I'm not going to win but at least I'm not dying today. There does seem to be at least a little bit of that kind of feeling. Drought the book because he when he describes time that it's car broke breaks down. He's also he's very sad obviously but also he then like in. The same breath described some horrific crash. Where someone just gets thrown from their car. His good friend got killed in a race and then he just like race the next day like they didn't even think about it. It was just like yeah. Of course I'm GONNA race guys used to die all the time.
Stupid-Proof Your Flying
"So I thought the topic of Talking about like stupid. Proofing your flying lying in some ways that we can build some routines some checklists some mindset in too stupid proofing in what we do because at the end of the day a lot of us have tendencies to boot stupid things and I think that's just a human condition right as generally what we are are always trying to do so in aviation we watch out for ourselves that way. Make sure that we are trying to keep the ultimate safety so we are going talk about in this particular podcast white. Getting your head right I next and last is the most important thing you can do. That goes to human factors that goes to those that important decision. Making also Being introspective and knowing what you're thinking and feeling in how that plays out to aviation safety how checklists help keep us pilots and check also why habits gouges end. Routines are essential in a fast paced environment. In how using recurrent training being can make your skills skyrocket. So let's just dive right in and go through several of these and have a discussion so first off is is the mindset stuff yourself before you wreck yourself kinda funny saying that My wife says every now and again now one thing I've talked about every every now and again is that humility is one of the traits that we certainly need as pilots. We know that there are hazardous. Attitudes out there that we learn about when we When we do flight training and they are certainly true they are present we have all of them to a certain degree or another We have have several of them Most so you have to identify what those are. We're talking about those things like Resignation Nation anti-authority invulnerability Macho One. I came up with was a know it. All and there's there's several others that I'm forgetting out the top of my head but those things that are kind of human nature that we tend to We tend to to gravitate toward as an attitude toward certain things so those are called again. Hazardous attitudes you've probably heard of him before but the biggest thing we can do you for aviation safety for stupid. Proofing are flying is to have humility and this goes back to one of the core beliefs. I Have I've even when it comes to aviation accidents is that I I never place myself as being better or or more professional channel than the pilot that had made the mistake. So what I do is I rather take a step back and ask myself. What would it take for me me to get in that situation to make those same decisions and I feel like I learn more that way? I learn Maya limitations. And what my problems. uh-huh are in how I can be better by being realistic about the fact that hey it can happen to me in will happen to me so that goes to humility but just having the sense that yes we are our own worst enemy and if we aren't careful than Than we can on get in trouble so this can be again. This can be counteracted. In several ways we can define our hazardous hazardous attitudes so that we can avoid them. I think that's very important to do on a regular basis we can Create what are called personal minimums the FAA has these personal little minimums that show What we are and aren't willing to do in our flying and those are more specific scenarios that we want to avoid while we build experience so you can see those on the FAA website? Just search personal minimums worksheet and they have something you can work through and actually come up with a scenario so you don't actually crossed that line in those personal minimums are always better minimums than what is is the actual legal minimum or at least They are often better. If you're really proficient and of course you can go down to the minimums in in certain cases. But you're not leaving yourself a lot of wisdom. I just think that this whole mentality of Being humble as a pilot is something we need more of. There's just not a lot of room in aviation for Ego and when we get accidents that happen and in things happen it it ends up being a breakdown at the end of the day in humility in the pilot being able to identify problems in themselves and and make a change as a result. So be humble check yourself before you wreck yourself. Probably the biggest point. I'm going to make today Eh. So checking yourself so checklist. We know that checklists are thing. K Y this is inherent in aviation especially training and And Professional Aviation where we use checklists religiously so if you did your training right you would have had an instructor. Dirt really drilled. This end you that. You gotta do your checklist. You gotta do your checklist. And it's literally there to fight against the stupid also. Call it the stupid so literally there to fight against these tendencies for you to forget to do things incorrectly. And you know things like landing with your landing gear up and And not switching fuel tanks all sorts of things that are pretty crazy so actually the origin for checklists came from When they are developing the B seventeen must have been prior world war prior to World War Two or at least the US's involvement in in World War Two? They're doing test flights and one flight took off without the It was an an elevator. Lock I think it was external an elevator lock. That was on the outside that had been left in so they went down the runway and tried to take off and couldn't couldn't control the pitch and had an accident. It was fatal. And that is when the checklist Began to be developed a very serious way and of course. It is a mainstay mainstay in aviation now where we are using checklists constantly Q.. Check ourselves every. Airplane has a checklist. you'll find them in the operating being manual for your airplane. Pilot Operating Handbook Airplane Flying Manual. Different names that they have but you will find on there you can also purchase them online through Through some different people who make laminated versions of them. That are just in one card and I like that version a lot because it has extra information on it so you can also go that direction too. So that is where the origin came from but now we have checklists as as part part of our cockpit all the time we fall in and out of practice with checklist. I think everyone does where As we get closer to check rides we I use them a lot more but really we should be using them all the time. A case you just be habitual that we're using them constantly so if you get interrupted interrupted while you're using a checklist then you need to start the process over again or make sure that nothing was skipped and also if you are falling out of the habit of using your checklist make sure to pick it up again and start to use them again okay. That habit can be built Even if you didn't originally learn it to a great degree you can learn to do that. Checklist make it really convenient for yourself again. That's why I have those laminated cards. I'll put a link to it here on the website ANGLE OF ATTACK DOT COM OR AVIATOR CAST DOT COM. You can find this episode and get a link for those so they're nice nice and laminated and they worked out pretty well make them easy to reach. Make them right there in your view. Sometimes I tuck them in the window. between the Glare Shield and the window. or I'll have it right under my leg or somewhere where I can just grab it quick reference it and put it back very very important that we go l. through those checklists and use them on a continual
The Gift Of Kindness
"As a young boy in Mechanicsville Virginia Nate Medina had a habit of disappearing nate and had a tendency to wander. He'd sneak out the back door. If you didn't keep an eye on him and he would would go onto people's front porches and if they had wind chimes he would just stand under their wind chimes and listen to the wind chimes chime. That's neat stat. It Kevin Metheny. Nate was always drawn to sound partly because he had William Syndrome is a genetic condition that involves developmental delays and heart problems and people with Williams Syndrome often have hyper-sensitive hearing at six years. Old Nate couldn't talk but he sang or hummed. Almost all the time one day nate seemed irritable. He couldn't use words to tell his parents what was wrong but clearly something was that evening. His parents looked at the couch. Innate wasn't humming in fact he wasn't moving his lips had turned blue. Nate Sister Caroline Caroline was nine years old at the time and remembers it clearly. I just got back home from my daycare after school and I was watching teenage mutant Ninja Turtles Dell's and like my parents started freaking out because they realized that he wasn't breathing and they were on the phone with nine one one nine nine one one was telling them how to do. CPR until they got there and my mom noticed shining. They're looking in fear so she shoved me into the office office to watch my show. Her parents rushed him to the hospital. As word about nate spread through town was at dinner at Applebee's with my family of five going through my facebook theme Tamra letter new. Nate's Mom Diane in Highschool Sa Diane Post a request for prayer. Nate's a heart had stopped and they were trying to revive him and we play store orders at our restaurant and my world continued on and her world completely stopped. Nate's parents always feared this day. Might come but they didn't expect it to happen so quickly. The local hospital tried to prep up nate to take a helicopter ambulance to you the A but they couldn't seem to stabilize him. And after just a few hours nate died. Nate's nate's older sister. Caitlin remember seeing their dad the next day for years. He'd give a nate his morning meds. He woke up really early. And he's like what do I do with my more makings. Yeah I just remember. Actually seeing him cry for the first time does looking desperate for what to do next three days later. Tamra that woman at Applebee's was at nights week thinking of his mother Diane. I felt the weight eight of that loss and it just felt so heavy. A wanted to help. But I didn't know how she mentioned this to another woman and as the two of them stood the next nate's casket. They formed a plan. They decided that for one year they would shower. Diane's family with anonymous acts of kindness and they'd recruit women in different corners of Diane's life to join them we created a facebook group. I chose five ladies and Michelle chose five ladies that was it. They called themselves the secret sisters. Each of the twelve women was assigned a month and for that what month they commit to three things. Pray for Nate's family every day since small gestures of love throughout the month and give one larger gift all anonymously. Nate's parents remember getting that first card signed from the secret. Sisters immediately began investigating the people were that looks like so and so's handwriting and thus began the stream of anonymous notes and gifts from the secret sisters stairs. Tamra says she and the others usually made deliveries under the cover of darkness. I was terrified that I would drive by their house and they would recognize my car. Are you know when was the last time you Ding Dong ditch. Somebody as a forty year old. It was always a joy getting ready to go out the door and all of a sudden. It's like Whoa. There's a there's basket on the front porch or there's something hidden in the mailbox or there's something out of my car. They were really creative. The family was given crafts. AFS Food and gift cards to movies and bowling alleys and restaurants things to distract them from their grief. It Touch Diane that these mysterious givers. I knew her son so well. For example Diane received one gift in particular that reflected nate's obsession with ladybugs. She opened the package edge to see a set of wind chimes. Just like the ones nate used to wander off to find. Small ladybugs dangled among the chimes. I just started crying. I mean it was joy mixed with grief. Nate was still being remembered. You would hear those chimes go off just about every day it seemed like and it was just a subtle reminder that that's something something they loved a year after nate's death. His family received a large stuffed envelope from the secret sisters. We're like Oh what's IT GONNA. It'll be now and It was a puzzle when they put the Jigsaw together. They saw an invitation to a picnic at the park. It was finally time to meet the secret. Sisters is the day of the party. The twelve women from different parts of Diane's life gathered nervously under a shelter are at the park waiting to finally reveal themselves then Diana and her family arrived they got out of their car and they scanned across and saw all of a standing there. It really wasn't overwhelming moment. We all pretty much were in tears. Then they reminisce together about a year that had turned from terrible sadness too deep deep joy it was the best thing that could come out of a horrible situation looking at all. The friends soon gathered Tamra saw that over one year a little idea had turned into something big. I realized that the seemingly small things that we do in life

Why Are Camel Spiders Harmless?

Welcome to brain stuff. A production of iheartradio. Hey, brain stuff. Lauren Vogel bomb here. Some animals have a reputation that's hard to shake take a camel spider. Many Americans are familiar with them based on photos that came out of the Iraq war in the early two thousands a giant, desert spider, with a leg span somewhere between the size of a pack of cigarettes and a full grown man's calf though. The latter one turned out to be a trick of forced perspective. There were rulers, they enter the desert screaming and jumping on camels they would hide an ambush in sleeping bags ready to inject you with venom, but US military personnel are not the first to tell stories about the camel spider in South Africa. There's sometimes called beard-trimmers, because some people believe that if you sleep on the ground camel, spiders, will come trim your hair in your sleep and use it to line, their nests in parts of North Africa. And the Middle East legend has it that they choose the bellies of camels until their intestines fallout. So they can eat them or that they can lay their eggs in their stomachs. None of this is true, of course, for starters, camel, spiders, are not spiders at all. All but solid few goods, these arachnids live on every continent, except in article, and ustralia and all one thousand one hundred and fifty species have eight legs and two body sections, like spiders, scorpions ticks, and mites, but they're different enough to belong to their own order. Secondly, they are aggressive, but they're also none venomous, and the large jaws of most species can't even breakthrough human skin much less camels belly the largest camel, spider has a leg span of around six to eight inches. That's fifteen to twenty centimeters, which is bid for a spider, but it's not horror movie territory. And they seem to take little to no observable interest in human hair. We spoke with Christy Rettig, founder of the bug chicks educational company that uses arthropods to teach young people about social issues like prejudice racism, educational, potential and personal development. She said that thing about sell a few goods is you don't really need to make stuff up about them for them to be fascinating. I was in Kenya. When I first saw one and I went to catch it and it ran up the side of the wall. Right up to my I height it. Reared. Back in rubbed its jaws together to strangulate. Some people say they scream, but it's more of a hissing rasping noise, it had such an attitude. I just fell in love. It would seem difficult to fall in love with an Iraq did with these stage presence of a pro wrestler, and the body of an animal who's parts were scavenged from the invertebrate salvage yard but such is the allure of the camel spider Radic said if you do a rapid count of what appears to be legs. They look like they have ten legs. But their first pair actually mouth parts called pep helps I kind of think of them as mouth hands, they helped facilitate bringing prey into their big jaws when they run they use them, kind of, like antenna or long legs in the front. They also have mouth clause called Chelsea's which are used for a dizzying variety of purposes, one of which seems to be transferring packets of sperm, for male to female camel, spiders, most sell a few gets are nocturnal extremely territorial and top predators in arid ecosystems. They eat other predators in the same size range, as them or a bit larger. But even eat each other, they don't have venom. It's unnecessary because their jaws are so powerful. They can manipulate their food through their mouths by sawing their prey back and forth like an old timey cartoon character eating a cob of corn. Solid few goods are also wildly fast able to reach speeds of about ten miles per hour that's sixteen kilometers per hour and seemed to be able to run for as long as you care to chase them. But with that comes metabolism that requires nearly constant fuelling. So they eat a lot, but that doesn't necessarily explain ones. L A few good behavior mass aunt assassinations for some reason, camel, spiders, will sometimes go after an ants, nest just tearing answered half left and right until they're surrounded by an enormous heap of rented, aunt carcasses some scientists think maybe they're killing ants to save them as a stack for later. But read it published a paper in two thousand fourteen about the diet of solid few goods, and she and her co author found that they don't, particularly, like eating ants another explanation for this behavior. Could be that there. Trying to clear out the ant nest in order to find a nice place to escape the desert sun. But it's really a mystery as to why they do this Rettig pointed out that another possibility though. Is that camel spiders attack Aetna's to get the larva and pupa inside? She explained these don't bite and are super soft squishy little protein and fat bombs. But you can add the mass murder of ants to the long list of things. Scientists don't understand about solid fuel goods. But remember, even though they act wild they can't hurt you Radic said just because something is a predator or even defensive or aggressive. It doesn't make it a bad or mean animal cell. A few kids have so much, great attitude, and they're soft and fuzzy when you pet one, it's like, petting a little mouse. A little demon mouse. Welcome to brain stuff. A production of iheartradio. Hey, brain stuff. Lauren Vogel bomb here with that age is old question. Do dogs go through puberty? Okay. Well, if it's not age is old. It's at least an interestingly, odd question, and an important one for dog owners, you might assume the answer is no because he probably don't ever, remember your labrador tow barking. I hate you. You've ruined my life. You never. Let me go to the dog park and then stomping off slamming the doggy door behind him. Although that's unlikely to happen for several reasons the answer, whether dogs and other animals go through puberty is, yes, dogs, for instance, go through hormonal changes that are similar to humans, however because they have significantly shorter lifespans the moody difficult period of adolescence happens when they are puppies, a typical puppy goes through puberty sometime between four and twenty months, the equivalent of a human's first eighteen years small breeds, develop faster than larger breeds, and like humans female dogs typically mature faster than males. They won't have acne or school dances to contend. With but like human adolescence dogs in puberty may exhibit some less than desirable behaviors, males tend to Mark and mount as well as Rome, which is the dog equivalent of sneaking out of the house to cruise for girls with the car full of friends female dogs, reach sexual maturity. Once they go into heat, they'll show physical signs, as it approaches such as excessive shedding and looking genitals. Male dogs are drawn to the female sent when they are in heat, so girl, pups should be kept indoors and have a secure physical barrier around them. When outdoors a female dog can become pregnant during her first heat just like they tell you in high school and due to an increased chance of health and behavioral problems veterinarians advise against Spain or breeding dog before that. In addition to sex-specific behavior pubescent, boy, and girl dogs share a variety of new personality traits and behaviors, which can include anxiety, insecurity, irritability jumpiness and increased independence including a reluctance to come when called they may also begin to act territorial and protective or even become picky. About playmates and fight with other dogs. Dog adolescence is also accompanied by an abundance of energy. Perhaps, unlike humans, I remember being distinctly difficult about getting out of bed in the morning in dogs, that energy can often lead to chewing, the wrong things pulling on leashes and digging, though. You can mitigate all of that by providing positive outlets such as playing running, and going on frequent, walks and outings. In addition to needing, healthy avenues, for extra energy during this period. Experts as important. The pets are mentally stimulated by playing exploring new places and learning new tricks, Doug should be routinely, socialized, because along with puberty can come sudden fear of people or things that haven't been issues in the past. This is a critical time when early adolescent puppies, develop emotionally gain confidence and decide who they trust sadly, the majority of shelter dogs arrived during adolescence because people don't realize their pet sudden, bad behavior is a developmental phase that will end. If you decide to include a four legged addition to your family, you know, the road ahead, isn't paved entirely with rainbow. Shaved squeaky toys, but when Muffin begins to act, ordinary around six months be thankful that she isn't too embarrassed to be seen walking with you. Lava Tubes Could Aid Humans Life on the Moon and Mars

You'll also earn two percent cashback at grocery stores, and one percent on all other purchases. Now, when you go out you cash in Capital, One, what's in your wallet terms apply? Welcome to brainstorm a production of iheartradio. Hey brain stuff, learn vocal Bon here ever since Neil Armstrong. I set foot on the moon. Scientists have been toying with the idea of forming potential colonies, there and more recently on Mars to, but extreme fluctuating temperatures cosmic radiation, and micrometeorites showers colloquially known as space dust pose challenges to human excavation of both the moon and Mars, however, Astro biologists are in the process of exploring nifty geological structures the conservative natural shelter from these harsh elements lava tubes. So what are lava tubes? We spoke by Email with doctor Ricardo puzzle Abban of the department of geosciences at the university of pet ova. He's been at the forefront of European research on lava tubes. He explained lava tubes are caves that are carved by flowing lava, that eventually drained out leaving a subsurface void, although there are different types of lava tube formations, these caves often form out of a type of fluid basaltic lava that flows down a slope, like. The side of a volcano as the outermost portion of the hot lava flow comes in contact with the cold air, it cools rapidly forming a hardened crest, but liquid lava continues to flow like water in channel underneath this newly hardened surface. At some point that liquid lava runs out, and cools underneath the surface forming a curvy tube shaped structure, and thus Alava tube is born geologist. No lava tubes from volcanic areas in Hawaii, or Iceland, but they've also become a hot, commodity within the Astro biology community due to high resolution images, indicating that lava tubes may exist on the moon and Mars as well. Many sites thought to be lava tubes are detected by the presence of these curvy channels and more recently, the SETI institute announced the discovery of possible skylights or lava tube openings in a crater near the North Pole of moon using images obtained from Nasr's lunar reconnaissance orbiter, but lava tubes are tricky business. Scientific technology is still playing catch up and identifying these underground habitats, we also. Spoke by Email with Leonardo career of the remote sensing laboratory at the university of Trento. He said the main difficulty comes from the fact that lava tubes are centrally subsurface structures. Very few instruments are capable of performing direct measurements of underground structures. But careers team is working to modernize the technology and bus aid future human settlement of these lunar caves the technology involves using radar, which can detect lava tubes from orbit based on their unique electromagnetic signatures, basically, they can pro below the surface of the moon using low frequency electromagnetic waves, and then measure the reflected waves that come back to them. Those reflections offer insight into a lava tubes characteristics, like its shape size and composition. But one thing is clear lava tubes on the moon and Mars are invaluable is natural potential habitats, or at the very least could serve as convenient storage units between space missions. Meanwhile, back on earth, scientists are preparing for future missions to the moon and Mars through a little cave, diving the European Space Agency, developed a program called Penn Jia. The prepares European astronauts to explore other planets one of its projects concerns, a lava tube in Spain called corona that's eight kilometers long, or about five miles the team has undertaken advanced mapping of the tube to create three D model. That's attract down to the millimetre. They've also been testing out new robots or Rovers to identify how best to navigate these tubes. Developing a greater understanding of the challenges associated with incursions into lava tubes on other planets in the process. Other researchers have also taken an interest in exploring the microbiology of lava tubes by focusing their efforts on the lava beds, national monument in California, this project funded by the Canadian space agency is looking to explore lava tubes habitats of biker organisms, which may leave traces behind through certain minerals, and thus indicate the presence of life once upon a time, which is cool enough. On earth, but would be an amazing find on the moon or Mars. So what's the difference between lava tubes on earth in their lunar, and Martian counterparts? Well, gravity for one, the lower gravity on the moon and Mars seems to impact the size of lava tubes, significantly tubes on Mars can stretch for two hundred and fifty meters in width, or about eight hundred and twenty feet and tubes on the moon can reach a whopping Colombia, or more across that's about two thirds of a mile, the lower gravity. Also stabilizes, the roofs of these tubes and causes fewer collapses, especially on the moon, thereby creating a potentially safer dwelling for human habitation, but otherwise lava tubes on earth are fairly similar in composition and structure to those on the moon and Mars and serve as excellent reference points for researchers. The potential for lunar caves, and possible human settlements has many people excited even the White House is making a bid for moon colonies in the near future, and the possibility of answering whether life has existed or may still flourish in caves on Mars is a tantalizing one for space explorers. But if you're wondering whether or not martians will be found hanging around these lava tubes on the red planet, the answer is likely no, unless you count microbial critters radiation, a dry environment and frigid temperatures make the planet inhospitable to most forms of life while using ground Rovers to access lava tubes on the moon and Mars could be difficult due to surface conditions other devices are being developed to aid these explorations including climbing, and hopping pit bots and flying helicopter, like vehicles likes of which may appear Nasr's Mars twenty twenty Rover mission.
