"First McCarthy cut to go Right because at this point you guys only Republicans only control one half of one branch of government So for you to get what you got was great For the most part because the Republicans did much better in this than the Democrats did obviously And to your point Joe Biden tends to negotiate Go ahead There are going to be You know a bunch of Republicans on the big vote are going to vote now You're going to need a bunch of Democrats to say you know what I can't believe I'm doing this I'm going to vote with Kevin McCarthy Well normally when you make when you come to an agreement with two different parties you have people on both parties vote for it But the difficulty that's different than any time before is the Democrats will tell you there's nothing in the bill for them Nothing The president numerous times He kept asking for tax increases new government programs and I just said no And he says well there's nothing in it for us to vote for That's debt ceiling I'm not sure people want to go past that deadline and interest rates go up in others I think this is a good first step but we can go much further And I have a plan for that coming forward where we can look at the entire budget and tackle our problems especially in a bipartisan way This is reasonable This is sensible but it's also responsible thing to do He's among the most popular Republicans in the country And there's at least one common cause he's talking about making a motion to remove him as speaker So I don't follow the kamikazes

Sen. JD Vance Proposes Safety Standards for Railroads and Firefighters
"Let's bring in senator JD Vance from Ohio senator. Thanks for making time for us today. Good to be with you, Alex. So let's first talk about your real Bill. I think this is a big deal and I love that you're showing leadership here. Is this your first big Bill? I guess that's my first half question. And the other thing is noteworthy that you're actually not doing this to campaign for some higher office, you're actually trying to benefit the people of Ohio with it, which is nice. Explain what's going on and you're building a huge coalition. Give me the details. Yeah, so the basic idea is what happened in east palestin, Ohio, where you had a train crash, terrible chemical fire afterwards, and basically a chemical bomb that went off in northeastern Ohio. I don't think that was going to happen again, or at least we should do some common sense things to make it less likely. What I've tried to do here is basically create a couple of additional safety standards that railroads have to comport with. And then simultaneously make it so that the firefighters who are dealing with these chemical fires when you have the train crashes to begin with, they actually know what they're dealing with because that's something I heard from the folks of east Palestine and 99% volunteer firefighting force is they were going to this chemical fire. They didn't know what they were actually dealing with and how could they properly protect themselves or deal with the fire given that given that reality. So the bill addresses both of those things. And the thing that I try to remind people because I know a number of conservatives don't like the idea of doing anything that makes it harder for corporate America to live their life. The basic problem here is that the railroads socialize the risk of their business model. When they have a massive train crash, that costs a lot of money for Ohio taxpayers, it costs a lot of money for federal taxpayers. Think about the welfare benefits they're going to flow out through the door to the people of east Palestinian to healthcare benefits because of the health and economic consequences of what Norfolk Southern did. And if we're going to do that, and I think of course we should, we have to take care of the people of east Palestinian. We should expect Norfolk Southern and other real companies to hold themselves to a higher standard. And that's exactly what we're doing with this bill. It's pretty simple and straightforward. I know, you know, rightfully so people are focused on the border. People are focused on the debt ceiling negotiation. Those are all very important issues. But I think this is a small win that I can get for the people of Ohio that matters a lot to folks back

Wasson says Brewer's decision to end a roll out of the smart doors that Wasson Watson and his partners had committed to installing cost their startup more than two hundred million dollars. We obviously have tougher capital markets environment it hasn't been as robust as we saw coming out of the pandemic recovery period and so what I'm really reflecting in those comments is more about the activity levels and the cross currents and the the the continued debate about will we or will we not have a recession will we or will we not rates have that stay higher longer inflation that stays higher longer and until we get more resolution on that debate I think we're going to be in a much more challenging period I can see scenarios where the second half of the year gets a lot better we we obviously got through the debt ceiling so last week when I was making those comments we were on the precipice of getting through the debt ceiling we've gotten through it that definitely created the lead up to the debt ceiling debate created a lot of angst and caution in the market for good reasons we're now through that so that's a that's a that's an obstacle that's been moved moved aside now I think really we get back to the primary debate which is to me is inflation when I talk to our clients whether they're corporate clients or investing clients the single biggest debate that I hear is how sticky will it be and how much is the Fed or the ECB gonna have to do to get it down to you know percent it's two target in the US terms let's say or or you know thereabouts in European terms and I think that's a very question hard to answer and I'm not even sure the Fed at this point understands what where that has to be and I think that's that debate is going to persist and that's going to really weigh on sentiment how much is the consensus that inflation will be higher for longer and therefore rates will be too well I hear from corporate clients the persistence of inflation in the system it's felt on the supply side so whether it's commodity inputs or other supply side inputs you still feel the supply chain imbalance has gotten a lot better but they're still pretty positive upward bias on pricing in the supply chain obviously wage pressure remains it's an extremely tight labor market you know I often ask myself late at night can we actually have a recession with three and a half percent unemployment seems unlikely maybe unemployment has to go a lot higher from here maybe it will maybe it won't but right now at the moment wage and recent the job report was certainly stronger than many of us would have expected so wage pressure is still there so if you're running a company you've higher got wage prices higher supply prices you've passed along that price pressure to your customers the customers have generally absorbed it I sense at the moment more concern in corporate offices and boardrooms about whether you can continue to price that way and will you margin have more pressure so there's definitely debate and pressure on margins which I think is going to be we haven't really seen that in earnings persistently up but I think that's potentially a negative drag on earnings so that's the CEO sentiment when you get the investor sentiment it's a little bit of a what rate assumptions we want to make what inflation assumptions we want to make and what growth assumptions we want to make if you want to paint a more cautious picture you would say we might have a mini stagflationary scenario it might not be massive stagflation but if you have sluggish growth one percent plus minus growth and inflation doesn't really get down below three percent and rates have to stay three plus percent for a that's while not going to feel it's not going to be called a recession it's not going to feel great and activity levels will be more challenged that's the scenario we kind of plan for and worry about because that's the scenario that could persist for a where you just get sluggish growth I think we need better growth we need more productivity and there are impulses that could provide that I'm sure you want to talk about AI, generative AI is a potential productivity positive boom I think a lot of the lot of what's going on in science life sciences and the investment the progress that's being made there's there's plenty of innovation that we could point to and say there's an enormous opportunity to have like industrial another revolution it just might be more of a digital revolution and a science revolution that could unleash a lot productivity of but we need something to get more growth in the economy that will allow us to deal with some of the challenges we're going to face. Now that's a very robust backdrop to look at a different range of scenarios both for CEOs and for investors. What does it mean about the risk appetite that your clients and you are taking on? I would say for our clients risk appetite is lower. It was very very low leading into the debt ceiling if you're talking about more investor risk appetite for a was moment it very low leading into the debt ceiling debate. The last handful of days has been better. You can see some things back into the marketplace but I'd say generally speaking it's still a lower risk appetite than we would have certainly 2021 in and into the first half of 2022 for good reason because these cross currents are complex. It's not clear anybody wants to make a very declarative set of risk judgments at this moment. So lower risk appetite and I think CEOs are cautious. You can see it in business spend. If we're not in a business investment recession we're sort of on the precipice of it I think. You're seeing decline in business investment but on the consumer side the consumer is quite resilient. So consumer demand which is 70 % or so of the US economy remains pretty strong. So we don't have a recession because the consumer is really maintaining that strength. So I think risk appetite is going to maintain a more muted positioning until there's more resolution of some of those debates. So what does this mean for things that are under the hood? We have kind of a joke among my colleagues that we're really tired of worrying. a I think lot of investors probably feel that way however it's the job of a risk manager to do it. So if you look under the hood what the are biggest concerns that are under the surface? Well we worry about everything all the time. That is our job. And as I said last week we're running the firm tighter. We're being more cautious. If get we that sort of more sluggish growth higher inflation scenario and studying what has happened in those types of scenarios you can see you generally get less economic activity. And you get a reduction in purchasing power capability for the consumer and so that does have flow through effects. And that will obviously impact our industry and our business. So we're planning for that scenario to be more likely. Doesn't mean it will happen but we plan want to for it and if it breaks to the upside we can flex into the upside. So we've

"Just say this about dune. I did not expect it to be good at all. I was dreading watching this film. 'cause you never seen it, right? I'd never seen it. I have seen the first half of the new film. The remake that's split the story into two halves, right. And I fell asleep like 6 times watching it. It was terrible. And I thought, oh God, I got to sit through this again, right? So I watched this one, and I do have to say, it's a lot better than the new one. And there are like these little hints of genius throughout the film. I have to say, there are moments of genius in this movie. And I can see why some people love it and why some people hate it. And maybe through the course of the hour, we can figure out why some people love it. Some people hate it. The reason I think maybe a lot of people hate it is because those moments of genius are fairly inconsistent. Do you have moments of genius and then you have moments of kind of tacky, weird stuff, and the thing that I want to compare it to a Star Wars. Because Star Wars very obviously ripped this story off from the novels, right? This is a novel originally. And I think for film, Star Wars did it better. Star Wars everything was very real and naturalistic George Lucas tried to make everything as realistic as possible. Whereas dune kind of feels like I'm going to see a Broadway show a little bit. Interesting. All right, look, this is where this is where it gets really fun because I watched this as a kid. I was 13 years old. I think it has been unduly maligned. Yes, there are issues with it, all the exposition, the voice-over stuff. I get it. But some aspects of it, I mean, the battle sequence. They had some battle sequences where they had 3000 people in the Mexican desert. I mean, just stunning. Is that true? Yeah. They had 6 Chris, they had 6000 costumes built by hand. 6 thousand costumes made for some of those costumes are amazing. Oh, my gosh. I mean, just the still Suits alone

"Very confusing economic climate currently, a Washington D.C. seems just determined to continue to spend more money as inflation goes and the economic indicators go under. We have bank collapses, federal government is doing more than ever, the fourth branch of government seems completely just unchecked and they are doing whatever they want. So EJ, we're seeing, we're seeing this confusing economic time and it's hard to pinpoint exactly where we are at. And I know this is a difficult question, but if you were to forecast the economic trends, do you think we're already in a deep recession? We're going to stay in a deep recession, what is the data showing you? Early, it's a really, really great question. And when we try to determine, for example, when a recession begins or ends, we have to look at a whole host of different factors. And right now, the majority of those are pointing down. But probably not enough to really say definitively. Yes, we the economy is contracting right now. But what it looks right now, just given today's data before years end, we are definitely going to be into that downswing where the economy is in fact contracting. And I have quite frankly given up on all of the so called experts who are supposed to officially determine whether or not we're in a recession because look at last year. Look at the first half of the year when the economy actually shrank. And what happened? That came and went. And again, the so called experts never batted an eye. Whether or not that was politically motivated, I'll leave that to you to determine, but the fact remains that the economy did contract for the first half of last year, and it's very likely going to begin contracting again in the very near future. "We got lots of them since our last show. And and some odd wants some catchers zach collins not the portland forward but the white sox catcher and kyle farmer. I is there anything there. I mean i as count holiday because definitely matters yes. Monte groundouts probably going on the injured list today and collins will be the starting catcher for the white sox but is it. Is there a pathway to relevance in a ten team league like would you add him in a one catcher the you know and to catcher league. I think you can make the case right and like he takes. Walks doesn't he. He does he whips a lot. There's a ton of swing and miss his game. That's the big problem. You're going for the all or nothing. Potential power outcome and if you look at his numbers the power hasn't been to the level. I was expecting during his prospect status with you to catcher league type. I also be a little worried. The white sox have to seek another catcher. They have lost so many key. Contributors to that lineup. They've got to do something. And if the backstop is where they can add a player a meaningful name. That's going to work against him. Yeah i mean. We'll see i don't want to over eight collins by the other catcher right now. They just called up somebody. Today i saw. That's not mercedes. What do you do with our in a fantasy league right now. We don't know how much time he's going to miss. It might only be one start this week. He might come back right after the all star break and he might be fine and we rank them among the top. Five starting pitchers in all fantasy. He's really only good on the field. But do you try to trade him right now. You're always in dropping him right. You probably can't trade him for value at this point because there was concern that he's going to get suspended miss more time and then again he might not be and in a week he might be in the rotation. So what does the fantasy implication to what's going on with him. A lot of these things are very unknown and uncertain because we haven't had a a history of however will deals with these things so i have no clue what the length of absence is going to be I do believe because he's got an out designation. You could put him on the injured list. I don't have a share in an espn link. So i can't tested myself. But i think the player with the o. designation can and if that's the case you just put on the sidelines and see what you know how this plays out. I don't think you can trade them. I don't think you should try to trade him. I just don't think that's a viable option for you and you know we'll we'll see how this plays out. It's a it's a disturbing troubling situation. I mean when he's on the mount. He's talented pitcher moving on now. Let's do the combo meals. Oh there was one other thing. I wanted to get to six. Oh sanchez of the marlins done for the season with shoulder surgery. Which have like harbinger a little bit like a month ago. When i was writing about this situation. I don't even know he's going to have surgery but you can safely drop him. But i wanted to ask your overall picture here. A shoulder as four more concerning than an elbow where the now. But we know how long you're out with a shoulder. Sometimes these guys are gonna come back. They don't throw his hard in a dynasty format. Here tennessee rankings. If six oh. Sanchez was before this week. Among your top. Ten young prospect dynasty starting pitchers. Is he still there. No he would probably at this point if it was a top ten classification. And that's taking a subset group of that age. He's probably now atop twenty type and with the possibility this adversely impacts the remainder of his career. As you said it's a shoulder tear. I worry that that cuts a little bit into next season as well. Especially if it's a surgery situation. Let's say top twenty just ballpark today. "Might be. Yeah i would hope in the situation that you don't have a glut of injured less players. I do a couple of leagues. So i understand it. If you're in that situation. I think it's okay to let him go. I would prefer to try to keep them around. If i could zach gallon of arizona's just sat down on the field after throwing a pitch. They say it's a mild hamstring strain but arizona's a mess and they don't win very much and anzac. That gown is very good but this looks like a pitcher who's not going to have a great final second half of the season to me like maybe it's because injury maybe it's because of performance or not getting wins but like i don't see how we could rank that gown as a top twenty five starting pitcher and fantasy for the final three months based on his situation. Yes and a lot of that has to do with this. Being the third injured list stint. I can't recall what the first one was coming out of. Spring training began the year on the injured that was elbow and we thought it was elbowing the first time right. I mean i thought that was the second indra. I thought that was the main one. Well i it was. One of them is what i'm saying. Yeah there was definitely one where we were worried. he could be headed for. Tommy john i do recall that i think that was the may one. I don't remember the opening day could have been the same but the fact that these are two different injuries and he's at a difficult time building his himself back up to pitching at the level he did in the previous two years. That's what bugs me. I i'm with you. I don't think you can make the case for top twenty five. Because i don't think he gets to that volume and there will be the risk of re injury. He had a hairline fracture and his forearm in late march and then the elbow is in early. May so you add all these things up and it gets to be a little bit concerning and this is very promising. Young starting pitcher. And that's why we get concerned any other injuries that i i don't want to miss anything here. I'm looking at the most added droplets because that generally tells us who is injured because people are just you know leaving a positive injury note. I mean since. We're doing injuries as i'm pleased about the friend. Male raiders at friend mill race return from the ingest and the homered and his first. Maybe not as first game back but it was one of the early game. I think it was the second. I'm trying to recall doubt the power. You know actually was activated friday. I don't think he played. "All star break should be a wild homerun derby next week in denver Tristan how are you hope you have a nice weekend. I did i did. It was a very nice relaxing weekend. Pretty decent weather overall for the most part of the last couple rain days. And i'm really thrilled to see that. Shohei otani is on the all star game as a two player. Actually why i'm gonna. I don't always watch the all star game because it's you know it's not normal baseball but i- everything is doing. I'm watching its course field. And it's a designated hitter game. At least at last. I checked it was because there were designated hitters in the voting. And i just want to see the roster maneuvering like how do they handle. How do they handle otani getting into that game as a pitcher on this is the stuff i love about baseball at. He leads the league in home runs. I mean unbelievable. What he's doing right now. And you know if i was thinking about it like who is the player of the year so far in the first half of the season the seasons roughly half over right now so the player of the year. I mean how can it not be otani amis leading the league at home runs. And he's pitching. He's pitching well enough to matter to be relevant. He's number two on the play writer behind fernando totti's junior but how can otani not be our fantasy player the first half of the season. I don't see how he can't. He's been available to people the entirety of the year. He was going one. Seventy five to two hundred overall i i saw leagues where he was definitively after the top two hundred picks he's got four hundred and thirty fantasy points if you combine his hitting in his pitching now. You can't use them because you can't use hitting a bitch at the same time just said that on the thursday show with aj. But i would say that the available points to you. He is by far the most in the league. And you see in the playwright or numbers as well i i. Can't it's indescribable. What he is doing. I mean it's it's never been seen in the history of the game. I'm sorry no. This is not babe ruth like. This is a guy who was putting up great numbers on both sides of the ball. He's an unbelievable hitter though unbelievable babe. Ruth didn't hit and pitch at the same time. He had seasons where he did. One of the other did but not to the extent that otani did fantasy. One hundred years ago So i i would say that this is the fantasy hitter of the euro. I see him dive at shortstop. I get concerned. But i mean what a player just. What an unbelievable player he. The greatness of those names is what makes it difficult to make a case for anybody else and by the way. I'm sorry you're correct. Otani was in the top. Ninety overall pixie sword in the final two weeks of adp during spring training was around one twenty at the midway point of guess just people were chasing the names. I remember you. And i were discussing them. We just didn't think he was really a top hundred guy. Explains how great. He's been the one. I would make the case for in the top three. I actually think. Marcus semi deserves a mention here. As a potential fantasy hitter of the year in terms of value he was a guy was not going in the top hundred changing positions new team taking a one year deal as approve it kind of thing for a new contract. There were questions about him and what he has done is pretty extraordinary. But it is hard to go against. Vlad otani totti's probably otani. I'm probably tony ts. Flat as well. Whatever i look at where they were drafting. Their otani was drafted. You know whether it was round ten around fifteen. He was drafted in every league. Okay so was semi-in you know it wasn't centered moen's a baltimore is an absolute possibility for fantasy. Mvp right now because he went undrafted and pretty much every league and this is a guy on pace for twenty five. Twenty five homers deals with batting average. She's an all star. He's putting up incredible numbers. I took a chance on a mattel. I think it was last year. That was a year too early. May what a season. And if you wanna talk about the value of the pick he would be the winner because all these other guys were drafted and he was not yeah. I'm trying to dig this up as quickly as i can. And i've gotten a heck of a lot wrong this year but cedric mullins. I believe was the first player in my first three to add coma the year and i hope he will pick them up because if you did at that point that was the period at which it was known that he was contributing in the role and he has never stopped since that. Point one of the reasons for your case as to fantasy value. Is i think the wise fantasy managers as as you had said you got last year and touting you've got him at the beginning of the year here anybody who got him at the beginning of the year has reap the rewards of three excellent months of performance fascinating and you look closer as numbers and there's no reason to think that's going to stop either so you had it right. First week of the season got to add and took a little while for people to do it. But this is why you when you're leagues. Let's talk about some of the news. Not all of its happy as we get to this final week of the season. Well we're already in it because it's tuesday. Monday was a holiday couple of injuries. I call schwarzer. Who wrote an amazing june. I think it's different if we get to the playoffs and you know there are multiple teams without their stars but at this point i think there are enough guys who are expected to come back at some point. "This is my game of the year by a pretty huge margin. At this point. I think it could be unseated by Something that hits in in in a different way Something maybe a little bit more narrative lee satisfying because god knows monster. Hunter rise didn't scratch that it since it didn't have an ending when it came out but it condenses down everything i like about monster hunter and then put it on the switch in a time. Where like that was all. I could really play. I think it came out like a days before gus was born So like there were definitely a couple of nights in the hospital where i just didn't sleep because the baby didn't sleep And it was it it.
