"Our exclusive live breaking news coverage that we've been doing this afternoon, too. Well, you were putting together a newscast, uh, had a chance to watch a little bit of 10 ways to cook Ramen in prison. What did we learn? Well, here I can only make as you pointed out when you found this video. It's 33 minutes long, so I haven't been able to watch the whole thing. But here's what I know so far. Number one. You crunch all the noodles down, and then you take the seasoning and mix it in with hot water and then pour the crunchy noodles into the hot water. Okay? Okay, Uh, number two. And I think either you were Nicole mentioned this dry. Just eat them dry. The number three wait to eat ramen in prison. He calls it but naked. But with all that means is it's the ramen in hot water without the seasoning packet. Okay? And then the cookie. The cookie. Here you use much less water than the ingredients called for and you shape it into what resembles a cookie. And then you microwave that for a few seconds, and when it comes out, it's just a big round cookie of ramen. Mm, a ramen disk. Soft, soft baked Rahman, and that's as far as I was able to. Okay, okay. Uh, when we submit this hour for a Murrow, do you think it will be for enterprise reporting or best breaking news? Maybe a combination of both. Yeah, we like to sweep all the categories this year. Yeah. All right. Thanks, sir. Yes. Uh oh, man, I'm fired up. Now. I'm going to get a Murrow again. It's been a while since I gotta Murrow. Uh, let's see here. So as we mentioned, there's just absolutely hideous thing going on for our kids who would otherwise be engaged in the healthiest of activities and that's running. My middle daughter was a cross country runner. She really loved and every Saturday because their home park was Hamlin Park adjacent to the high school that they want to, But her coaches were terrific. And they knew you need need a change of scenery, so on Saturdays that would take them to run the cross country course at lower Woodland. And its world renowned course, and we've had all kinds of major cross country races there, but no more because the heroin and meth addicts have taken over their extension cords crossing the trail where the runners would run, there are tents. On some of the trails, and there's needles everywhere. And so they've determined that it's too dangerous and so a big part of our city apart that we pay A phenomenal amount of tax dollars for our parks is stolen by heroin and meth addicts. We do have somebody, however, in charge now. To be the homelessness czar. I know what you're thinking. The violence are that didn't work very well. And they didn't return, renew his contract, but they have hired a homelessness czar and we knew about this weeks and weeks ago. But I'm now hearing him speak. And I'm just much His name is Mark Don's He's 35 years old. Here's what I'm just not so sure of. I mentioned this a couple of hours ago, My wife and I were very diligent about trying to make sure that our our girls used proper grammar. Try to eliminate the likes and you knows from their speech, because what I would always say is if you want to get a job You can't talk like a 12 year old. You can't like, you know, you can't just like, say every other word is like, right? So I always thought that that was kind of a pre rec to getting a good job. But then over the weekend are new homelessness is our Mark. Don's I'm not trying to make. I'm really not trying to make fun of this guy. But I am making fun of our region and who we hire for things like the streets are and the homelessness are. This guy is a self avowed communist. On Twitter, he wrote. Let me remind you all, it's never too late to pivot society toward full scale luxury communism. In another tweet. There's just a year ago. We're not going back 5 10 years. Another tweet. Uh, he wrote To be clear. I've been repeatedly clear that I'm a socialist. But to deny that there is a difference in the material realities for black people in a Biden versus Trump Administration is a form of intellectual dishonesty that should embarrass the people who perform it. So again. I'm not trying to make fun of this guy. I'm just saying, What are we doing? As a region. You hire 35 year old who does up talk at the end of sentences and says, like and you know, and right, uh, so often that you can't even concentrate on what he's saying. So he talked to, uh Omari Salisbury, the citizen journalists This weekend and a couple hours ago. I did. I don't know what number you came up with, because it's hard, But I did account the likes you nose and the right. I think that this conversation has become so polarizing and so toxic because we simply refused to let it be actually complicated. We keep searching for like, Oh, they'd like someone has to be wrong here, right? And in reality, like we're all holding pieces of right and pieces are wrong because we're human. We're fallible. That's kind of what we're going to do until we're not here anymore. Right? Um And so I want to acknowledge that, like the fears that folks have had about what everything is going to become downtown Seattle right like is, in some ways a reasonable fear in that, For many people who you know, are navigating this space or other spaces in Seattle Metro they are not trained in the escalation techniques. They do not know how to differentiate between you know someone who is experiencing psychosis versus someone who is maybe an active danger, right? Um and we need to do a better job of helping people. Okay? Uh, desegregate discomfort from actual. Let me get my woke. Word dissection. Need this to write? I should like my woke work, dice, You know, Right? Okay, get back to the threat to safety, right And that's on us. It's on us to lead and have that conversation with folks. But in doing so, I want to be clear that we are not and should not be asking everyone to become certified de escalation specialists, right? Like you shouldn't have to do that. In order to just sort of, like, walk around your neighborhood, right? Um people who are experiencing crisis shouldn't have to do that. Outside. Both of those things are true. Like like it is what was so funny about that? I can't play the whole thing. It's another 45 seconds and it drives you crazy..

"League. The big League. I sense a dory rant coming on many, many years ago, our middle daughter was quite talented middle distance runner. Surana like five Once he was 5 26 1500 in eighth grade, which had the high school coaches very excited because she wasn't that far away from breaking the high school. Record, But then she got some injuries. Some, you know, just repetitive running stress injuries and she tried to run through them. And when you Could have pain that's associated with the sports you love. Then you suddenly stop loving it so much So she moved on to other pursuits, tennis and stuff like that. But for my wife and me It meant watching an awful lot of cross country meets. And our home field was Hamlin Park, which is right adjacent to the high school that our daughter attended. But the cross country coach is they're very good coaches. And on Saturdays to take the team to lower woodland. Just for a change. Change of scenery Just you don't have to run the same course, day after day after day after day. And Laura Woodland was one of the premier courses in the northwest. And there have been in fact, many national qualifying meets for sectionals and regionals at lower woodland. It is a great course and it has been stolen now. Been absolutely stolen. Who stole it. The Communists on the sales City Council. Jenny Durkin has been involved in stealing it and, of course, The heroin addicts do are now pitching their tent on the cross country trail, and we found out this weekend that a lot of every running group is said to abandon Abandoned lower woodland. This is a gym in our city, Woodland Park. Lower woodland. All the ball fields. Green Lake. It is a gym Well, half of Green Lake is, uh, encircled by RVs by people who are filling RVs, cooking myth, cooking heroin. So that's what's happened on one side of Green Lake. And then you've got people under tarps and intents at Lower Woodland, and now suddenly our Children cannot run. On the cross country fields. And that is so heartbreaking on so many levels because as I've been talking about, we are imposing so much stress on kids with these stupid masks and telling kids they're going to die If you don't do it, Jay Inslee says, You're going to die. And kids need to have less stress in their lives and one of the ways you do that is by being with people that you love by far bonding together, forming a team. And then Just by being free. I mean, I'm miss running. I really do. And I was never much of a distance runner. But when I was that age, I used to run green like all the time I bring stopwatch with me, and I love trying to sprint out those last couple 100 yards and just be completely spent. Completely exhausted. And it was the most wonderful of feelings you have for a couple of years. I found out about that runner endorphin high when I would do that all of the time, and now we've stolen that. From our Children. And it's just absolutely disgusting so they cannot use the most famous park. In the region for cross country meets anymore. That's because we have let the drug addicts take over everything in our region. And why is that? Why in the world We let the drug addicts takeover? Well, this is part of the plan. To eliminate The middle class and you eliminate them because somebody is in a nice middle class neighborhood. You let the drug addicts just go would break into their house, steal them blind. Take the catalytic converter off their car. They'll never get caught middle class suddenly finds out that old taxes have gone up. Inflation is going up. Taking gas is going up of sudden your middle classes like Hi. I'm low class now. So so this is what's happening, and it's all partly by design. The solution, of course, would be to have some adults in charge who could go in and help clean up the region. Which brings me to the main point. Of this rant here, and that is Omari Salisbury. Citizen journalists and find one he talked with the new director of regional homelessness for King County. He's the CEO. Of King County. Regional Homelessness is authority. His controversial pick for a lot of reasons. First of all marked owns is a self described Communist And I don't know that a Communist is going to do great job that I mean some of his tweets in the past. Let me remind you all that it's never too late. To pivot society toward full scale luxury communism. Other tweets. Let me translate this young, rich white male venture capitalists telling the rest of us that there's nothing we can do about the system that produced them and their platform. Because everything is pointless, so just get comfortable in dystopia. So you co calling. For dystopia. And then there's so many. I can't. I can't read some of them so, but it's clear he is and one of the things he wrote. After posting that he's a communist He wrote to be clear. I've been repeatedly clear that I'm a socialist. But to deny that there is a difference in the material realities for black people in a Biden versus the Trump administration is a form of intellectual dishonesty that should embarrass the people who perform it. So self described Marxist and Socialist Communist is in charge of homelessness in the region. I'm gonna play a sound bite because he did talk with Omari Salisbury this weekend. I want to play you one sound bite. Because I will tell, you know, I make living with words. And so I cared about how our daughters Spoke and speak. We didn't let them say, uh, yeah, My sister and me are going to the store. You know, we always catch them. We'd always correct them and I think stuck and they've appreciated that. But we tried to eliminate the Kardashian where every other word is like Here's the guy who's going to somehow fix homelessness. In our entire region, self described communist or socialist, depending on which tweet of his you are reading. He's making an estimated $130,000 a year. In the sound bite. Count the likes the you knows. And the right. Since you come up. It's a lot to count, though. But here's the guy who's going to solve homelessness in our region. I think that this conversation has become so polarizing and so toxic because we simply refused to let it be actually complicated. We keep searching for like, like someone has to be wrong here, right And in reality, like we're all holding pieces of right and pieces of wrong because we're human, and we're fallible. That's kind of what we're going to do until we're not here anymore. Right? Um And so I want to acknowledge that, like the fears that folks have had about what everything is going to become downtown Seattle right, like is there in some ways a reasonable fear in that, For many people who you know, are navigating this space or other spaces in Seattle Metro They are not trained in the escalation techniques. They do not know how to differentiate between you know someone who is experiencing psychosis versus someone who is maybe an active danger. Right? Um and and we need to get there. So he wants fewer police to go out to calls because They They don't differentiate between people who are in active psychosis or are a potential danger. I would suggest that anybody in active psychosis is a potential danger, but it's hard to follow the words that he's saying, many of which are just ridiculous in and of themselves. But if you are also spending your time counting the likes you knows And right. Then it becomes almost impossible to focus on the mouse. You need to do a better job of helping people, uh, disaggregate discomfort from actual.

"The George Floyd protests happened so It's getting hot and heavy, early downtown Seattle That's local journalist Omari Salisbury, live streaming last year from one of the confrontations between protesters and police. Tear gas is out here. It is no joke. Okay. The tear gas and flash bangs blew up the impression that the Seattle Police Department was done with the consent decree. Now it was looking at a whole new process to reform its crowd control policy. Geoffrey Alpert says this can happen. The cliche you often hear is moving goalposts. Whether or not the department is in compliance can be, uh, kind of I don't wanna say all over the place, but you know, you hear 92% 95%. I'm not even sure what all that means. 95% of what this open. Endedness can feel especially frustrating to the city, which has to keep paying the hourly fees of the court appointed consultants and total costs can run into the millions. The current Justice Department may have heard this criticism. The April memo that clears the way for consent decree says they should have termination provisions that are quote specific, clear and well understood by the parties. In Seattle, the current federal monitor running the decree, Antonio after Lee is trying to reassure people that the city is not back to square one. You could say I was kind of brought in to be the closer, right? To see what we have to do next in the city to bring a successful legitimate and to the consent decree, But let's go back to Lisa Dugard, the MacArthur genius grant winning public defender. For her. The frustration isn't so much about open endedness or cost. It's about the fact that the city has been locked into a 2012 vision for fixing police while the world has moved on. In this post George Floyd era. She says she's less interested in reform now and more focused on reducing police what some would call defunding and she doesn't think that can happen. As long as the consent decree is in place. It doesn't matter what you think should happen. It can't happen unless it's the court's own idea, and it never is so You know, the City Council can't prohibit tear gas. The City Council can't reduce the budget. It is in the way it interpose itself between the community and our elected leaders. And oddly enough, this is similar to the argument made by Trump's first attorney general Jeff Sessions for limiting consent decrees. He had long argued that they were an end run around democracy and local control. Martin cased NPR NEWS, Seattle.

"Do something It hasn't done before, and he's have a gang summit. It needs to be, and it needs to be in a no judgment zone. But there needs to be some type of gang summit because I've seen it work in Los Angeles before, so we need to do something different. That again was Andre Taylor with not this time police accountability activists who I've not heard from the city how they reacted to his call for a gang summit or whether that might be something that we would do. Also over the weekend, two people were shot and injured in road rage incident and then also another person was shot and killed in Pioneer Square. That happened early Saturday morning. Police got 911 calls about several shots fired. When they arrived. They found someone shot a man shot in the chest. He later died at the hospital, and then another individual shooting where someone died. Both of those people were in their twenties. That in King County, with the tally from just a Friday shooting. That's before the Saturday's shootings that 16 homicides in King County so far this year. That's compared to 24 for all of 2020 and then on the national level on the mass shootings. We are, according to the national statistics at 272 shootings, and our mass shootings Total are 40% higher than this point in 2020. Well, that seems to reflect the the the national The national mood for sure. So, um, this gang summit tell me more about that. How would that work? Haven't we done that in the past? I don't know if we've done that here. I know when I was in l, a that that's been done, And it's it has been done and shown to make a difference on everything from the gang violence that's going on to, uh, you know, helping keep kids from getting into into that lifestyle to begin with. It can be done. Um, I'm not sure about here in Seattle. Not in my time here that I'm aware of. And it's you know, it's an idea. You bring everybody to the table, and there's been this increase in the shootings. Are they all gang related? I don't think they all are. But it's certainly an uptick from what I've seen in the past and something worth talking about. In my opinion, I'd have to do more follow up to find out if it'll go anywhere. I know this is a big crusade of our mutual acquaintance, Omari Salisbury says that there's I mean, it's one thing to to blame the emergency crews for not providing aid, and I guess that'll be resolved in court. But it would be even better if, of course, the person had been shot in the first place. And the fact that it's been how long has it been now? It's been a year since this happened. We still have any clues and more than a year. No, there's a warrant out for the person who shot him. He is on the run. He was gone already, and they just haven't been able to locate him. But he's been, I believe charged in absence and as being looked for, But you have a lot of experience with pursuing fugitives like this When when somebody's Been able to remain hidden for that long. He's probably getting support from somebody right? Sure, Yes, absolutely. I mean, so it means that there is somebody who is who is okay with having someone like this on the loose, and by the way, as I understand the law They can get into just as much trouble as the fugitive For quite yeah, you'll be charged essentially as an accessory. Absolutely. You can be in charge for that, and you bet there's people that will help this person on the run. And it's that's true. But it's especially true in in gang life where you have people, friends or relatives, family members who will cover for for someone who was on the run and help that person even get out of town or if this effect we're talking about a family that is Full of gang ties. They've got a network of people that can help them not just in the state in another state, so it could be any number of those things that's going on. All right, Hannah Scott. Thank you. You bet it is. 7 23, and that's time for Cairo radio, real time traffic, And here's Chris Sullivan brought to you by the Washington Department of Health. And it is a heavier Monday than you might anticipate. And you can thank the weather for that. We're looking at probably a 50 minute drive now, from federal way to Seattle. That's about 15 minutes slower. Then you might have anticipated when you walked out the front door this morning, and that's all because we have a stalled semi. That's over on the right hand shoulder up by the West Seattle. Bridget has never really been blocking at all. It's been hanging out there all morning, but that's why we're looking at 35 minutes from South Center. I mean, you're stacked in From the West, the middle of Boeing field on it. If you want to take airport way, I would decide to go that way and save yourself a little time in the 99 59 corridor is not going to help because it's pretty heavy across the First Avenue South Bridge and Down into Georgetown and into Sodo. So yeah, that drive north to end on I five is not great down in Tacoma, The North End I five drivers also just very slow.
