Well, 44 traffic every 10 minutes on the fours from the High Performance Homes Traffic Center. Here's Kimi. Northbound 5 just passed the Tacoma Dome. I'm looking at some police activity on the left shoulder, not blocking but definitely causing some extra traffic around City Center. Southland I -5 is moving slowly right now for the weekend as we head south of State Route 512 towards BLM the main gate and then it's heavy again from Marvin Road off and on towards Olympia. There's a crash on the Olympic Peninsula in Discovery near Bay and Highway 101 is alternating near Orcus Drive. This is causing at least two miles of slowing in each direction. Southbound 5 very heavy in a Seattle starting at 145th and Shoreline. So is northbound 5 from the north end of Boeing Field into the Convention Center. Southbound 405 is struggling from just south of 520 up the Kennedy Dell Hills. So is north 405 between West the Valley Highway and Northeast 44th and all that traffic is affecting northbound 167 from south 180th right 405 onto and eastbound 18 is slow from just east of Issaquah Hobart Road a long Tiger Mountain towards I -90 plus the Fauntleroy Ferry dock out of service till further notice due to mechanical problems. "District to save the top on ish maternity ward. At 7 34. Let's go with west traffic time. We do that every ten minutes on the fours. Let's get you back to the high performance homes traffic center. Here's Keira Jordan. Started fighting your way on the northbound 405 commute this morning, which unfortunately is fairly typical. So the delays begin at the valley freeway. Those are going to continue with very heavy slowing to northeast 44th. This is causing a backup on northbound one 6 7 between a 180th and four O 5 and that's after we worked with off and on slowing from Ellington much of the way to two 77. On southbound four O 5 your backups are going to begin about two miles north of state route 5 two 7 and you are going to be finding heavy slowing state route 5 two two and then also some delays between a 124th and 85th, westbound U.S. two hitting the brake pedal across the trestle, south on I 5 delays from the four O 5 split out of shoreline and on north by 5 we're seeing the brake lights come on around two 72nd in Federal Way to state route 5 16 with some light slowing in C tech and then Seattle is going to be busy starting a touch south of albro to the convention center eastbound 16 just with some light slowing right now approaching union. "Sip and ship said, it feels like the mayor didn't dive in more on that topic. So he's left hoping to see more results of any plans the mayor might have brought up. I think he's heading us in the right direction. The question and this becomes how we can really put these things into action and I think that's why he's focusing on downtown because now if he can bring downtown up, he's going to help. I think the city as a whole. That's komal four's Paul Rivera reporting. Northwest news time, one O four. Trap reports every ten minutes on the fours from the high performance homes traffic center. Here's Kimi. In Marysville, watch for a collision on 88th street just east of I 5 near state that is partially blocking causing some snags around there for drivers. Also, if you're headed away from Seattle on south and I 5 watch for a stalled semi near south Boeing field approaching MLK junior way, it is still in the right lane, but there's really no backup. So just use caution. Things are a little busy on the east side, mostly just on SAP on 405 getting up the Kennedy doll hill. We're still just a little slow also on westbound 18 at the Tiger mountain summit from an earlier stalled semi this now cleared out of the way, but we are looking really good on the freeways around one 6 7 the whole stretch. I 5s in great shape around Tacoma and anywhere south of Olympian, so as I 5 getting through Seattle, not bad at all, even looking good around linwood and Everett and on the poeing freeway. The hood canal region and across the Olympic Peninsula tonight, where we could see anywhere from one to as much as three inches of snow and keeping a close eye on highway one O one from port Angeles to forks. That's another area that cassia and accumulation into daybreak Thursday. All areas will wake up to temperatures that will be sub freezing. "Here. We could have confused everybody. Yeah, exactly. But I actually think that you get better customer support in a direct to consumer, a lot of times. Because no one knows the product as well as you do. And if they provide feedback to you, you may not, you may not implement it. But you have that data point where they provide it to someone at cabela's. You never see that. Unless they answer a survey, who knows if you get if it's articulated in a way that makes sense in a survey. So I think ultimately, while the consumer likes to be able to go to their dicks or whatever and see what whatever real easy, I think that ultimately they'll get a better product on the direct to consumer model. A 100% agree. I mean, I would say if someone asked me to describe what our what we do as a brand and how we reach the market, I'd say we're omnichannel. We want to be where our consumers want to be. But I would say we do that with a very strong direct to consumer focus. And for that reason. I think there's the customer feedback cycle. And there's also just knowing who your customers are. And in a wholesale scenario, you don't really know who your customers are. It goes to Fred's fly shop and out it goes. You don't really know who bought it. And you also don't build a relationship with them. And I think that real value and we are definitely aggressive on the direct to consumer side. Is knowing who your customers are and them knowing who you are, do a street. That's one of the things I actually find great about BHA. To interface here with people that really are pretty much our people. Yeah. And so I get to hear their concerns or what they're looking or thinking and things like that. And so that's all important feedback. I mean, look, I don't take every thing, you know, but I mean, it's great to have that data point. Sure. Definitely. You know, sometimes like I remember when I got an email from someone who was telling me how they would improve our cimarron and he had these things that I was like, you know, we've sold thousands of that tent and you're the first person with that specific and here's a downside of that specific thing you would like to see. And you got a little attitude. He was like, well, fine, if you don't want my help. And I was like, you know, I mean, I've heard feedback from thousands of people, you know? Yeah. That's never been mentioned. And it's not without a cost. Downside. That's for sure. Yeah, I mean, that's the fun of the interesting thing about product development. The danger of product development is you build things for you. And we're always very cognizant of that. You've got to build things for the end. You can't build projects that are like, this is exactly what I want necessarily. I think it's always a blend of consumer input and I think really good product development. People are ahead of the customer, right? Generally, customers don't tell you what's going to be next. But you can take pieces of feedback to get you there. That is funny because I had I used to be in the IT world. I used to be a, I was at a company I was a senior security engineer. And I worked with marketing more than I would like. And marketing would always be sending out these things, trying to understand what customers wanted, right? And I always had the complaint of you're finding out what they want, what they want is they're going to point to this product over here. And then you're going to go formulate it, tell our development team. We're going to be three years behind the curve. We need to jump that curve and be leading the pack instead of consistently three years behind. And that's why you need those people. Well, first off, that's why you need to take the product on those trips up to the Olympic Peninsula, but also you need those people that are just going to be ruthless testing it and point out every little thing that could be wrong and then you just kind of dial it in from there. That's one thing I kind of learned it being at seek outside working with Owen. He's definitely got an eye for that kind of stuff, but I remember I first started working here and I was like, oh, yeah, everything's freaking great. You know, it's perfect, but that's really not what you want. You want to hear what's wrong with it and you know and why it's wrong and what could be a better solution. To make the best product out there for what you need. You don't always want smoke blown up your ass. Yeah. It's not helpful, right? Yeah. So good product testers are kind of a rare thing. They actually are, and there's a couple people that we have come into that I really trust. As far as their feedback and they're able to articulate it well. That's the key. Exactly. Well, Kevin, I got one last question for you here. If you had to, so say you're going on that trip. To the stream near your house, your time on one fly. But that fly can be the only fly that you use for the whole year. What's it going to be? I'll give you three, actually. Three flies. Well, I can fish one thing. I love fishing big streamers. The problem with that is you shouldn't fish big streamers all the time. Today we should right now what is its 45 and it feels like it's about to start raining. Today is the day to go throw the big stuff around. I love that because it's visual and you get to see the fish chase and you get to see the fly and I love that. So it might be something like yellow sex dungeon because it's super fun to fish. Yeah. I think if it was something else, if I could be somewhere that they eat chubby's all year long, I would do that. Big fluffy dry flies. It could be a chubby or whatever else. But that's kind of where I've gotten in my fishing these days. I'm like, I want to see him smash a big streamer. I want to watch me to dry fly. And that's kind of where I am. Okay. Nice. Only taken two out of three. I think I could land with two out of the three. Yeah. Okay. Nice. Well, Kevin, you got anything else for Kevin? Oh man, thanks for joining us. Yeah, thanks for having me. Look forward to seeing what Kevin thinks in the jacket and I'll try to provide you good articulated feedback. I'm sure I'll hear it from you. I know I need some new waiters. My neoprene waiters that I've had for about ten years are basically a wetsuit, so I'm probably gonna be gonna be buying some of them waiters when they out yet. If the carbon waiters out, we have one more waiter to launch that will launch later this year, but our ultralight kind of convertible waiter is out right now. So, everybody go check squall out and thanks for joining us, Kevin. Thanks for your time..

"Rain jackets, rain jackets are a big one for me. You know, especially if you have a couple layers underneath, it's just like it's so constricting. Especially fly fishing or spin fish and whatever. You need that mobility in your arms. And it does seem like your stuff has some nice flexibility, some nice stretch and sounds like it comes from a lot of years of experience. Yeah, I mean, that was really the mobility is one of the key things we really thought about. When we thought about waiters, again, we went up waiters that you'd like, you don't want a dread wear, and you want to put them on. You want to be comfortable in them. And so we started from ground zero and didn't want to emulate anything that was in the market today. And I think people have noticed it like lightweight waiter is highly breathable. The way we build our patterns and our legs is completely different from how anyone else has built waiters in the market today. And it was really about mobility. How do we build waiters that won't bind on you? Or like we were hearing from guides that they were sizing up multiple sizes because they were sitting in a boat all day and didn't want didn't want their waiters to bind up on their legs. So there were guys that could have been wearing a large that we're wearing like extra large talls. Just so they were comfortable. And our view as it doesn't need to be like that. We can really think about different ways to skin the cat here. So whether it be there on waiters or when you see our jackets, you won't see big billows pockets and big flaps. It's a very clean kind of design ethic. It's a bit minimalist. It's like you don't need to have stuff hanging everywhere. Some of it's my DNA of like, I don't like anything. Kind of in front. But it was kind of like we built everything you need and nothing you don't was a lot of our thought process going into it. Well, it's funny when you really take something I always kind of say when you take something and like really, really look and really, really examine that there's a lot of improvements oftentimes that are there that people haven't went and revisited, but you could take the old thermal zero rest sleeping pad. You know, it was like the standard for the accordion close out forever. And the last 5 years Nemo and expat have done improved versions by having deeper cuts and using foam, a little bit differently, combining a little open cell with it to be able to create a it's still not a super comfortable pad, but it's way more comfortable than it was in warmer as well. And it's kind of the same when you take that focus and just really kind of look at something, you know, kind of go back to book zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance is like he's talking about college, somewhere in Montana. I forget where it is. And the teacher where he says to people right about the hardware store across the road. And they're like all blank. And he says like right about the brick on the corner of the hardware store across the road and just that forces forced them to open up their creativity and not be so constrained about, well, it's just a brick building. So that's a good way to think about it, yeah. Yeah. Because clothing, especially outerwear, I mean, there's a lot to be, you know, I feel like there's so much innovation that goes into it. There's always something new. I mean, there's new, there's new belts out there. There's new shoes every there's always something to be improved upon in, you know, fly fishing is a very technical gear has to be very technical. And so there's a lot of room to expand there. So it's kind of cool what you guys got going on there. Yeah, we're excited with where we've where we've gotten on our kind of freshman year. Thus far. I will say I'm wearing one of your rain jackets right now. I'm impressed with the stretch of it. I bought The Rain jacket. Half hour ago, something like that. The reason I bought it is because it focused more on breathability than the high hydrostatic head. And a lot of times the high when you get those super high hydrostatic head fabrics, a lot of times it's like, they don't breathe until you really start churning. You gotta really, yeah, you gotta really have a lot of driving force to push through. A lot of what we did was from a thought process was pretty application specific. We didn't want to build a do all product. And I don't think squalor will be a brand for everyone. But it'll be a brand for people who are looking to have a better experience on the water. And be more comfortable. Stay dry. Not sweating a lot. A lot of mobility. As you mentioned, we built stretch across the line. And any place that we could do at practically, we did, whether it be in our puffy jackets to our three layer hard shell jackets. We kind of started textile first too, and that's been a lot of my design kind of mindset for a long time. Most of the times that Kevin and I talk about packs, we talk about pack fabrics, right? Exactly. And I don't know that everyone thinks that way, but it's certainly with what we do with squall out of the gate. It was textile first design. It was almost like we found some amazing textiles or worked with companies to create exactly what we wanted and then built the product around that. It's a good way to start from the ground up. So you were saying that you've kind of been working on this company for two years. Is that correct? About two and a half. Okay. So what was the, what was the impetus to start the company? It's something I've been thinking about a lot longer than two and a half years. I spent a little over a decade at sitka in the hunting space, but never lost my passion for fly fishing. The only thing that really got in the way of my passion for fly fishing is chasing Elk with the bow. That would be the one thing that would make me put my fly rods away completely. But it's just something that we've looked at for a long time. Looked at the space and not seeing the level of innovation that I thought we could see elsewhere. If you take a look at the hunting space between sitka and what cou is done and what's first light's done, those three brands really pushed each other. And we made better product because of it. We were constantly constantly trying to stay in the forefront of innovation there. Which was a full-time job for a lot of the team to do that. And when we looked at this space, we weren't seeing that. We weren't seeing that real drive for what's next, what's new and how do we make something that gives people a better experience and a better day on the water? Yeah. So where did you go to test these products out? That's what I really want to know. This has been tested in all corners of the world. It has been, yeah, our very first R&D trip was the Olympic Peninsula. In February, which if you want to test technical gear, hard to beat, and we were there, John Hughes go and I were there with our very first protos, Proto one on actually that jacket, you're wearing Kevin. Did it hold up on February? It did. It made it to market. So it definitely held up. But we got 12 inches of rain there in 8 days. So we got the full Olympic Peninsula experience. Was that the steelhead? Looking for steelhead monsters? Yep. Yeah, and I feel like our gear hell upgrade. It was actually an initial protos. You guys know from building stuff. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. And we came back from that trip. Really excited about what we had done in our first round of protos and build upon that. And spent the next year and a half after that in cycles of R&D and testing and sending stuff to the southern hemisphere, a lot of our product was down in Chile. And then a lot here and some up in BC in Canada and some up into Alaska. Sending it places of your break stuff..

More rain, mountain snow and river flooding on the way for Western Washington
"Storm system impact in western Washington, and this is another one. That reminds us the importance of understanding microclimates and precision. Understanding the various terrain around western Washington. Not everyone is going to be experiencing the same kind of weather tomorrow. I'm here to break down all of the factors for you. Tomorrow afternoon through Wednesday morning, we're gearing up for the possibility for more moderate to heavy mountain snow. In addition, there's going to be some strong winds that could possibly produce him damages or perhaps even some power outages. But in general, those powerful winds, with the exception rather than the rule mostly focused Up toward the northwest interior, the San Juans and the northern coastline elsewhere across the greater Seattle area. It will simply be remembered as a typical winter day Cloudy sky, some scattered rain and breezy conditions. We're not expecting any new flooding issues associated with this next storm can't rule out perhaps a localized urban flooding event, But once more in general, we're not giving up for widespread flooding. Young, the existing flooding. It's happening along just a couple of rivers. Still, though, we will have to monitor the threat, ongoing risk for mudflows, landslides and avalanches. Yeah. Oh Yeah. I even know that L. No no I'm just I'm just an enthusiastic cheerleader that's really what it is and the feeling is mutual. Absolutely absolutely mutual. I'm really excited to jump into this interview that you did with Mark L. Brock. Why don't you tell listeners who this is what we're going to be listening to? Yeah mark is amazing and he the the one thing that I really appreciate about mark is he's so articulate. It's it's it's kind of crazy. It's sort of like he knows how to talk to the public and talk to stakeholders all the things that we're GonNa talk about in the interview he's really good at communicating people and communicating all his efforts and his research and and. I don't just from a management perspective as someone who is a wildlife manager everything that he said made a lot of sense and I think it would make a lot of sense to people that don't know a lot about the subject So I was really impressed with him. Mark is a researcher focuses on mountain lions or Pumas cougars whatever you WANNA, call him, and he has been working in this field for. A really long time. So he's really gotten to know the species their behavior and a lot of the conflicts that come with them and living alongside large carnivore like mountain lion. So he wrote an he's written several books but his most recent book is called the Cougar Conundrum and the Cougar conundrum kind of outlines these bigger picture and with great examples, case studies and examples of basically the history of our. You know what he calls a conundrum, which I think is the best word to use this huge problem. That we have been experiencing north, America, surrounding these animals for for hundreds of years. So it's it's really it was great getting to talk to him and I learned a lot You know not just reading the book, but also just talking him and again he has a way with the way that he speaks that it just makes sense and he's very measured and I can just really tell that he he has invested a lot of time. You know working trying to problem solve, but you have to he he's he's the perfect person because he is so measured and listens and I I just think he's he's the best possible person to do what he does. So I'm really excited to have you guys listen to our conversation. That's awesome. Yeah. He's very well spoken and this book if I'm not mistaken, you had a sneak peek at it should be coming out the day after this episode airs Yes. So I, got a sneak peek at it and I got to read it ahead of its release which will be released on August thirteenth. So yeah, the day after this episode gets. and it will be available at any bookseller He mentioned that it would be great. If you know you WANNA contact your local bookshop see if you can get a couple of copies into the store, but it's also available online and wherever you normally get your books. Well, that sounds amazing and let's just jump right into this interview. Why don't we start by you just introducing yourself your name and a little bit about your background. Sure. My Name's Markelle Brooke. I'm a father. And a working biologist and I live in western Washington on the Olympic peninsula where I am part of a massive collaboration with five tribal nations to study mountain lions on the peninsula and how they crossed the interstate five corridor. I also worked for Penn. Thera. I'm the director of the PA- Program Outline programme, whichever were you prefer? and. So I help sort of create new projects identify need identified the conservation issues for mountain lions across their entire range. So we have projects ranging from up here in Washington State all the way down to the southern tip of South America. Wow. So it's a huge I know panther is a huge. Organization it's a global organization. I mean and I know you probably get this a lot. But how did you? How did you get involved with Panther and how did you get involved with mountain lions? Indeed it's You know it's all dumb luck. Great. panthers a as he said, it's a global organization. We work to conserve wildcats and they're landscapes around the world. You know it's How ends up doing what I do is. Is Sort of a circuitous journey. One never really has plans or at least if you do they tend to go out the window and and life happens. So I tell folks because I get asked this a lot. You know you must have always planned to be outlined biologist, and now here you are. Say absolutely not you know you. Have a plan. In the field of wildlife, you may have a goal and what generally happens is an opportunity comes up and you decide to take it or you don't so

closing of of businesses businesses and and schools schools Gottlieb Gottlieb did did offer offer reassurance reassurance saying saying quote quote we'll we'll get get through through this this another another former former democratic democratic presidential presidential candidate candidate is is endorsing endorsing Joe Joe Biden Biden in a video on Twitter California senator Kamilla Harris threw her support behind the former vice president saying quote I believe in joke we need a leader who really does care about the people and who can therefore unify the people and I believe Joe can do that and with us right now was ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts Steve what a difference a week makes it did you anticipate Joe Biden picking up this mode the momentum this quickly no I have not I don't think anybody did I I think what we're what we're seeing though is a fascinating phenomena based on one word and that word is fear it's fear of Donald Trump and fear of Bernie Sanders Joe Biden has not been reborn as some useful charismatics move talking energetic candidates Joe Biden today is still the same Joe Biden that people have a lot of doubts about two weeks ago two months ago two years ago the difference is that Democrats have so desperate so frantic to find somebody who can beat Donald Trump that they decided that day either as a group and individually as voters and as candidates they'll camel Harris being an example of of having to rally around somebody and then choosing between Biden and Sanders the fear of Bernie Sanders is pulling the party too far to the left so there's a lot of energy around the Biden candidacy right now but in my view it's largely negative energy it's driven by fear it's driven by desperation there are not a lot of Democrats even this morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if they rally around by they're holding their breath and hoping that Biden will get its act together and I've seen some signs a few signs of Byton improving on the stop I think he's shown a little bit more energy I think the campaign line about I'm the candidate of those who have been left behind it counted out is a defective and powerful line really echoes of a bill to written of nineteen ninety two the comeback kid although Biden's hardly a kid he's more the comeback teaser than the comeback kid and also this line of of of appealing to the concepts of dignity and civility and normalcy I think they provide a fairly stark contrast to the president who's in the oval office now but Biden is still Biden it was all of his flaws but at this point he's the Democrats best hope and it's gonna be very difficult for Sanders to capture Steve thanks for your thoughts again this morning ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts it's also worth noting that this morning one of the former
