"Of the greatest foreign policy disasters in american history from a world. Stage standpoint I can't think of a weaker posture that we can put ourselves in. I don't think would infrastructure. Bill should come up. We should be spending our time on this right here and looking at the past speaking to mr palm peyot speaking to the former president i know this would not have taken place as by administration takes on both foreign and domestic crises republicans as you may have heard there see political opportunity. The mcclatchy news service points set out this way. Quote while biden has to contend with harrowing images of afghans trying to flee after the taliban takeover former president donald trump orchestrated the withdrawal agreement and another potential twenty twenty four gop contender. That would be mike. Pompeo was photographed with the taliban leader. Who is now among those taking charge of afghanistan. So it's a good time to have back with us tonight don calloway. Democratic strategist and founder of the national voter protection action fund and susan dell persio msnbc political analyst and a veteran political strategist. Good evening and welcome to you both Done former vice president. Mike pence today joined in all of it piling on biden some of it a kind of olympic cauldron lighting version of gas lighting and rewriting history. But who do we see about that. You know in the grand scheme of things at this point. Mike pence's opinions of the bottom useful as a ashtray on motorcycle. But i really don't understand that he would be saying whole lot different to defend this position. I mean this is a position that his administration came up with his administration. Call or a defensive end to the conflict. Anniston and joe biden. Follow through on it. We can debate the wisdom of joe biden following through on it. And i do think that we should give joe by a little bit more printed for the dolphins and for the planning and for not going at it unilaterally as we felt like he probably did when he first will this out at the beginning but at the beginning at the end of the day. This is trump pence policy. And if they were still in office they would be defending it to the fullest. So whatever he has to say who really cares mitch. Mcconnell opinion actually matters because he's a he's a senate leader but at the end of the day. I just find it so ironic and so is mesmerizing. That this is the precise opinion that they would be spending if they still in off susan. What about this reporting from the hill that Republicans see a this crisis as a kind of a recruitment tool for future candidates. Does that assume that that midterm voters are going to be motivated by afghanistan or does it assume some kind of biden weakness instead it assumes that biden weakness and there is something to that if a president biden is continually facing negative stories. Coming out of afghanistan which will happen. Brian we will see stories of those who were left behind. Couldn't get out over the next year. Potentially and they will be heartbreaking and they will be something. Republicans will take advantage of that being said the other major concern that i think the vitamin station has to look out for is. Do we see return of al qaeda in a very influential position with the taliban. It's happened before. Does that happen. Do we see terror. attacks these are. These are huge concerns obviously for any administration but there is some argument that the world is lower that region is less less safe without the americans their even in a small force so yes i do think they'll use it. I do not think however the evacuation will be a major issue. Come the midterm election. Done our friend of done. Edwards writes this about domestic politics in washington. The washington post progressives may not be the house majority but most will win their reelections and the same cannot be said for many of the moderates they need progressives to give money and raise money for their campaigns progressives and moderates need to get on the democratic train their political majority depends on don talk for a second about how pelosi has to balance the inner factions in her caucus. Whether you're on the state level or gear in washington dc. It's very very difficult to be a leader of a democratic senate or house caucus because ideologically. Democrats are the party of the big ten. We have moderates and even conservatives within the ranks of the democratic party whereas republicans tend to unite around white supremacy on voter suppression so they have a very narrow universe of intellectual ideas. So that is the context. It's very difficult to get five people to agree that the sky is blue or your name. Is brian williams. How can you get them all to agree on the proper size of infrastructure package or even what infrastructure means as we're seeing that definition fall from bridges and roads and tunnels to human it infrastructures such as public education and fiber optics and so on and so forth so that is the fundamental challenge of a broad and diverse and vibrant democratic party which frankly looks like the country and that is the leadership model. That's why it takes a very strong leader nancy pelosi donna congresswoman. Donna edwards is absolutely right. But she's pointing out a fundamental challenge that comes with leading a diverse geographically age and racially ethnically very diverse. Cough and susan. Finally one mccarthy says we can't possibly take up this infrastructure measure while afghanistan is going on. What is that read like to you. Is that kind of obstruction plus straw grasping chess. Desperation mccarthy has nothing else to go on. He knows that this infrastructure bill is popular plus the deal that nancy pelosi put forward today with a date of september. Twenty seventh for a vote on infrastructure. That is now o'clock. That is in place that mccarthy is going to have to deal with because there are a lot of members of his caucus a lot of republicans who have signed on to support the infrastructure. Bill so kevin mccarthy can use donald trump's talking points all he wants as he tries to get money from donald trump for his candidate. But it's not gonna work to great minds on this stuff both friends of our broadcast on calloway. Susan dope ratio. Thank you both so much for coming on and helping us out tonight. Go stillman by the way coming up. The confusion and crowds.

"The olympic cauldron to kick off these games. Can you tell us what that moment was like. And what it meant to you. Definitely i think the greatest moment of my career definitely For me means more than winning. A grand slam. I felt such a great honor for me. I felt like my mom was so happy. And that's one of my biggest things to make my mom happy and for me. Yeah couldn't have dreamed of bigger occasion. I guess if mom's happy everyone is out on the congratulations. Thank you for. I love you also answer that interview training. 'cause you know how she got back in form after having so much of a layoff people now. She didn't play for a while because some mental health issues to. She said she felt like a giraffe. Really great i loved your line. Twenty two if mom's happy everybody's happy. That was that was terrific. The other thing. I was going to ask you We've talked a lot about their concerns about people raising this taking a knee during the olympics. We know that United states the shopowner american shop a raven saunders. put her arms into an x. Over her head and that might have been a breach of the rules. Tell us about a raven. Saunders and also talk about it there have been many protests at all. I if so i. I don't know much about him. Yeah there really haven't been too many. I think there's been a couple displays. Believe i wanna see like the. I know the australian. I think women's national team for soccer unfurled. I believe prior to the match Aboriginal flag or they did something to honor the indigenous people. I'll australia. I want to say it might have been handed out. Took a knee prior to the match like during to show solidarity against racism should have been some subtle mostly women. I should point out raven. Saunders was probably the one that is getting the most attention because it was on the podium which was against ioc rules..

"Sloan byles story for years to come probably down. There's kind of two contemporary issues. One is with naomi osaka. Who chose to match to a couple of grand slam tennis events but still chose to do the olympics. Because that's where her endorsement sponsorships were right. And i find myself. I'm the kind of destructive or i found myself cheering against her and was actually not disappointed when she lost yesterday and similarly I've a fortune daughter who's in competitive swim and we have a teammate. Who in a similar situation with physical injury just pulled out of her individual events not to still support the team with the relays and that if things go as it's currently being reported that she's still might do the individuals chose. Snatches do the team. I think that's that's going to really sully for reputation. Going forward change if she wins five gold medals tomorrow night. No because she's still chose the personal over the team. And i think there's with the whole olympic ideal is that we're supporting our country. You're pulling for the team. And that that she chose to pull out of the team are to have individual success. I think that will really affect. Yeah i don't. I don't i don't think you're wrong. I think that the fact that the one event she pulled out of and thanks for the phone call mike. The one event she pulled out of mace was the team event and she could still get five individual golds but now none of her teammates can win gold. But you really think in ten years. Anybody's gonna remember simone. Biles pulled out of that event i do. I think i think roberto duran everybody the first two words. You think of our no moss. Yeah i do not think anybody's going to remember this. I think when you look at her history if you look at the number of. I mean i think if she scores big tomorrow night i if she by the way we should say if she's not announced that she's going to compete tomorrow night she has not said yes. I'm in for the individual events so we have to wait and see but she is the most medalled female athlete of alta. Right up there right up there as one of the most medalled female athletes of all time. I think at ten years. Nobody's gonna remember what happened. I you're being naive. I think a lot of people are going to remember what happened. And i also think it's you know. He mentioned that. Osaka dropped out of two majors and then decided to go to the olympics. She let the olympic cauldron and then last night she got beat by the fifty seventh ranked player in the world. I think that if she did go to the olympics specifically because of her sponsors. It's not really what the olympic sir about. And so i think people will hold up. Wait a minute. You're not saying she anything less than everything she had naomi. asaka no. But i'm saying that if like why do you think she didn't play wimbledon. Well she's obviously having issues rebut. The issues weren't there when she went to the olympics. I think the issues probably exacerbated the do you know how much pressure there is. Being the athlete that lights the cauldron well or to the arguably the most famous athlete in the home country. She's she's playing for japan. There is so much pressure. Yeah it along with that japan. So it'll be it'll be interesting to see by the time yeah. Yeah let's let's play games this game. A game okay gaming games and then lie the day if you think you know the line of the day eight seven. Seven seven ten espn..

What Did an Opening Ceremony Without Spectators Look Like?

"Of the 32nd Olympiad now underway in Tokyo after an opening ceremony, unlike any other which unfolded inside an empty stadium and which were just now seeing on our televisions tonight. Here in the US joining us live from Tokyo with an update. Now CBS is Steve Futterman. Steve. It's almost old news there the opening ceremonies, but we're just getting a glimpse here unless somebody got up really early to watch. What were your impressions of this most unusual opening ceremonies and overall Olympic Games? Well, I think they tried the best they could. I found it. I rarely try to give opinions in my reports. But I found it a bit sad and no pun intended. There was sort of an empty feeling in the stadium. You know, when you go to an event like this part of the event is the fact that you're sharing that you may not consciously be sharing it, but you're sharing it with Thousands of other people there would have been around 65 68,000 fans in the stadium. I'm guessing there were a few 1000 people there yesterday around 1500 media members, some support staff. Uh, some dignitaries, the diplomatic corps, et cetera. So several 1000 people were there. It just wasn't the same. I was comparing it to. I saw Hamilton in 2015 in New York. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it watching it alone. When you're whipped the crowd, something adds to it, And I think that's what was missing last night, so I did find it a bit sad. They tried. There was some spectacular moments. Wonderful pictures. Naomi Osaka lighting the Olympic cauldron just wonderful, but It just didn't it didn't didn't have the necessity that you have to have the fans there to make it work. Not

S. news Toronto top health officials are taking a closer look at why a much higher percentage of younger Americans than expected to need hospitalization as a result of contracting the virus here's Dr Anthony Fauci director of the National Institute of allergy and infectious diseases speaking on CBS's face the nation that we have to look at the young people who were getting seriously ill from the European cohort and make sure it isn't just driven by the fact that they have on the line conditions because we know that underlying conditions all bets are off no matter how young you are if you have an underlying serious medical condition you're going to potentially get into trouble but if they don't have underlying conditions that will be something we have to really examine as to why we're seeing it here but we didn't see it in China now she says new data show that of the more than four thousand U. S. cases about forty percent who have been hospitalized for the virus were between the ages of twenty and fifty four and a non pandemic news this morning secretary of state Mike Pompeii arrived in Afghanistan's capital today an urgent visit to try to jump start a U. "Arum show quick programming note Monday dead green we're gonna do a special tip super Tuesday preview show will have grown a great blue steam bill crane in studio Monica Monica Pearce it'll be a studio so that seven PM on Monday very cool stuff baby the last act by our former boss now former boss pizza brings our program director retired today today was his last day and he left left early which made me sad because I don't get to see him but he's been a program director for nineteen years for WSB radio and it let me just say we could not have asked for a better boss truly the greatest boss ever he got us through some tough times goddess past nine eleven got us through the loss of many a coworker here always a smile always could rally the troops and was always you felt like he was in your corner at all times and I'm gonna miss him dearly I was with them for the whole nineteen years dead not as long but yeah great just to make he got you on today's show yeah if it wasn't for Pete actually probably wouldn't be in radio anymore I was really close to walking away from everything and he gave me an opportunity so yeah always be grateful for the amazing and and he survived a liver replacement surgery forget that no yeah L. add we almost we almost lost Pete Longoria talk real quickly about what peace meant to you in your car yeah I mean when I first started here I mean since I got here you know he greeted me with open arms and and pretty much you know since I started running all the shows he he trusted me with like new board to show yeah and you know that was that meant a lot because you know I understood how big boards wasn't for somebody new to the to the city and you know you to the state you know to just trust me with that that was those yell at Milan is the guy that when he came here he he opened up my talk a rear he recognized that could do more than just traffic and he's allowed me to do what I've been doing for the last some odd years and give me this nightly show so all credit to Pete's breaks he'll still be around he's still with us yeah he's gonna be enjoying a great retirement but truly well deserved it I wish you could have the boss I've had for the last nineteen years for at least ninety minutes of your life that's how game changing he was as a boss we wish you well Pete we love you we'll miss you and now I can text you an appropriate thing and you will get in trouble get a trouble would you rather have the pets brings on to the cell phone I am not gonna text would you rather see it with Britney Tenenbaum because she is still part of the company joining us on the program as she does every Friday the the star of what's going on around in and out of Atlanta from access Atlanta the beautiful the talented the luxurious scribing on automobiles it's Britney ten and bomb from access Atlanta bread how are you I am great it is Friday we're feeling good we are feel good I was I was I mean that Kerr mode because the Auto Show tomorrow I'll be there from noon to two gonna be signing head shots yeah but not mine because they still have had shown they got from channel two yeah so I'll be sorry Fred Blankenship had shots with my name but that's okay I'm going the the Auto Show just one of a a bunch of big stuff going on in town this weekend yes that is happening all weekend over the Georgia World Congress center if cars don't interest you perhaps you would like to attend the travel and adventure show going on at the Cobb Galleria centre that's also going on all weekend as well Josh gates and Samantha brown will be there there travel celebrities do not consign some head shots giving away a cruise or something on the radio well anything else I can read okay got it and then if you're into you or Easter researchers and crawfish are you into crawfish we talk much about him okay they're kind of hard to yeah yeah not worth the effort right exactly well this is the seventeenth annual oyster crawfish festival over at park tavern in Piedmont park I think the weather's going to be nice so you can go and check that out general admission is thirty Bucks will be live music entertainment and get your oyster and seafood fish right out to the best of the way for us last week it yeah lots of oysters and crawfish festivals going on in the A. T. L. something else if you like Bourbon your Bourbon guy I prefer Scotch but I will drink okay so beer Bourbon and barbecue over Atlantic station is going down as well I've been to that before have you yeah so they I think that this is the one where they might roast the whole pay gap kind of freaking out a little bit for a kosher girls don't look at it yeah I'm not gonna look at but if you're wanting to sip some Bourbon and eat some barbecue general admission for that is thirty nine dollars over at Atlantic station beer sippin Bourbon taste in music lesson and barbecue eating that's good stuff that's come round here going on you know you guys have any plans this weekend I am doing a girls weekend in serin B. we've been disarmed I have it is a really cool like retirement life would be really nice out there it's it's very it's the restaurants are really good you have a reservation yeah I think we're going to farmhouse over there yet either tomorrow useful there's a sushi spot sushi spot is very they've all you can eat sushi yet and we're doing a private Palade session tomorrow actually is a part I don't know if I'm out of my pocket I want to craft girls when they're only you can do plot ease which for you that might try to get try in do hot yoga yeah a really dumb idea of which they have goats there yet yoga goat yoga my friend has done go you go before I saw somewhere else I need to look this up I think it's about an hour or so outside of Atlanta they do yoga yeah quale yoga so you just see all these pictures of qualities jumping around that's older and like down dog position and planks and stuff and looks very promising I wouldn't pay attention I would just put the quality name to them come over here and just like I had to take a look yeah forget down dog so I guess the peg all this stuff is available WSP TV dot com work we find you on social media yes axis of Lana is at access ETL on Instagram I'm afraid a lease you can watch access to land on the W. S. B. now stream roku Amazon fire stick apple TV when I'm what I want to make one major weekend girls trip stuff in your Instagram so this is what we're gonna do are you told them today none of us know what tech talk is and how to do it you gonna try to master the tick tock let me know because I don't know how to do it okay yeah Britain always a pleasure have fun weekend buddy thank detail normally when it comes to a traffic delays we blame it on the weather or a bad crash but pretty soon we're gonna be seeing delays because of people that are in really good shape marathon runners joining us on the market I'm sure right now from triple team traffic Doug Turnbull Smilin mark McKay and WSB radio sports director Jay black marathon runners causing delays guys what what's going on here so tomorrow Saturday for the first time Atlanta will host of the U. S. Olympic trials in the marathon so the top three runners in the men's and women's division we going to the Olympics this is the closest we've got the Olympics since we had the Olympics I've never even heard of such a thing as marathon trials so this this is the race to determine who gets on the team for years one race to determine who goes wow so a lot of pressure tomorrow when where and how many runners J. blacks on the field to seven hundred which is around so there's about five hundred women two hundred and fifty men there's got twice as many women running in this in may at the marathon is twenty six point two miles so the course it's not gonna be the Olympic course okay we had it back in nineteen ninety six are gonna start it in its centennial park they will go north on Peachtree street by the fox by the market Mitchell house basically turn around right here at the radio station there and turn around a Peachtree circle I DO a loop back and get go back down Peachtree then head over toward the Martin Luther king junior site they come back up through centennial park they'll do that twice and then on the third lap they will instead of coming bicentennial park they'll go by the capital they'll go by the Olympic cauldron which will be lit they're gonna light the Olympic cauldron house for the first time since the Olympics go past Mercedes been stadium and then finish at the park all right that that's very convoluted thank you traffic wise that means we're gonna see some major artery shut down Doug when and where did they start as early as seven or eight A. M. right J. they started as of the races at noon but they're gonna start closing rules before that just like we see with the peach tree with a close gap before handed so it's going to be on that loop for peach tree all the way to centennial park and I don't really see the major roads like peach tree in the roads around the park shut down but also a couple of exits off the downtown connector to smile mark McCain a previous lifetime previous career was an anchor for CNN international sports you covered the long distance runner exceed these are some of the best of the best of the best company here they are and they they hail from countries that don't have our climate per se so that'll be interesting to see how they deal with a potentially cool weekend making a running is running is something that you need cool weather to get some good times and so a lot of folks to be here I'm curious as to how they're going to handle our streets which are renowned for having metal plates and the men potholes along the way yeah so this is for the for the U. S. team so we have a lot of locals and here they landed track club is kind of your local home T. V. S. track and field there's a few contenders in there but I talked to a lot of the runners and they say the thing about this course is it's really hard because if you haven't noticed there's not a lot of straight roads in Atlanta yeah there's a lot of hills when you're running twenty six point two miles hills are will probably as cat Murphy to say they just paved over the old Indian trails that basically got here so now I understand your your interest in this in the marathon trials three black the fact that there's two times as many women running as men so that's why you'll be down there covering that it is a little intimidating we had over the last track live and realize you are the biggest person there yeah you're right yeah the really really great the elite of the elite gonna be trying to get into the marathon again traffic implications Douglas right so.
