Smoke starting to clear out; Seattle air quality improving
"Turning to the weather. Tonight, some people in western Washington are finally getting a breath of fresh air. Because the air quality is improving across the Puget Sound region. Check out this map from the state Department of Ecology. It shows the air quality in our area improving ranging from good To unhealthy for sensitive groups. Let's get over to Shannon O'Donnell Mohr Rain this weekend, Shannon and what a breath of fresh air literally right so nice to see it. We've got our smoke cleaner at this point rolling through. It started last night. It continues right now, The biggest left over. Part of this is going to be the heavy rain at times. It's not the drizzle. We had a couple of days ago that just served a soap that smog you later make it sticky. This is the real deal that will help clean things out. Also the important factor the wind. We needed something to stir something up. So you can see that's happening out there tonight as well. With the breeze picking up the chance for lightning and hail, which had been pretty dominant here earlier in the game has lifted for the most part, everything settling down. You can see that we have a couple of slightly heavier showers, but nowhere near to the intensity we did earlier this evening. Most of those around Montesano and then back between two common Olympia. You've really had some heavy rain there around like still coming back toward DuPont Lacey into the north and also a pocket of leftover heavier showers around Stanwood and Camino Island. Those continue to wind down to so often on showers here for the hour by hour forecast that will take us past midnight and into this last weekend of summer. I'll let you know if that summer blue sky and sunshine will return in the rest of my forecast
Episode 53: mediUSA Reduction Kits with Christopher Miles
"I'm so excited to introduce today's guest. Christopher Miles is the senior manager for clinical services at many USA he's trained as an occupational therapist and a certified in both limping Dima and wound-care. He has been working with patients to assist in managing chronic Dima for over eighteen years and currently his role as managing a team of clinical educators for many USA and also completing clinical education to direct hospital systems national and International Conferences Hi Christopher. Welcome to the PODCAST. Thank you so much, Betty I'm excited club join your pot cow. I am so excited to talk to you about the reduction kit. So many of my patients in the clinic won a single garment that can do it. All is the reduction kit, their answer. You know I wish that there was a magic pill for lengthy Dima. I've been working Olympia for a long time and I think everyone spent hunting for that I. Wish I could say the reduction kit will do everything I'm not gonna I'm not GonNa say that it can but it certainly can do lot. It's a phenomenal bandaged replacement system. So. Can you tell us how the product came to be and what inspired it? Absolutely. I would love to and it's always a great story share. So the reduction Kit is part of the circuit product line The cirque aid product line has been around for over fifty years in a way it was inspired. It was actually invented by a individual who was trying to find a solution to help his wife who suffered from chronic limping Dima. Anti came up with this idea when he was at the San Diego Zoo he noticed that drafts are very tall yet for some reason, they never have swelling in they're very skinny legs. In the reason they don't have swelling in their legs is because their skin is inelastic it won't stretch. It doesn't have the ability to give to excess pressure or fluid. So there's no swelling or. So we've that. Concept he wanted to create a garment that didn't stretch because up to that point all compression garments had been made out of elastic that we're very stretchy. So key. The first inelastic product actually a very crude on product that he designed was actually out of leather belts. But over time he designed and created the circuit blind, which is the combination of an inelastic product with inner juxtapose spans to allow patients to automatically adjust and apply their compression.
Large group of vandals damage downtown businesses, assault officer in Olympia, southwest of Seattle
Suspect in Portland shooting killed by law enforcement
"And we're following the news of the death of the suspect in last week's deadly shooting in Portland, Oregon, Michael Forest right now is suspected of killing Eren Danielson. A member of the right wing group Patriot prayer last Saturday as racial justice protesters and pro trump protesters clashed last night right now was shot and killed as law enforcement officers attempted to arrest him. Near Olympia, Washington. They say they were forced to shoot after they say right now pulled out a firearm. Jonathan Levinson is a reporter with Oregon Public Broadcasting, and he's been following this story. Welcome, Jonathan. Hi. Thanks for having me. What else can you tell us about right now and briefly remind us how he encountered Aaron Danielson in Portland. Right now was a 48 professional snowboarder up until the George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, and the protest started in Portland. His social media was about snowboarding about nature, and then When the protest started here. There was this dramatic shift, and it appears that he had been attending the nightly protests downtown. The way he encountered Danielson. There was Trump Caravan last begin that came through Portland. Hundreds of vehicles waving trump flags and fin blue line flags. They all poured into downtown fights broke out between them and counter protesters. Some of the trump demonstrators were shooting people with bare maze and paintball guns from their trucks. A few times they drove their trucks through counter protesters on the Facebook page for the event attendees were encouraged to conceal carry And this came on the heels of free this week's rally that just evolved into really extraordinary violence, a lot of firearms and that crowd as well. So there was tension coming into this past weekend's protest and as it was winding down We know that right now encountered Aaron Danielson downtown. Words were exchanged and ultimately right now fired two shots. One struck Darius and in the chest and killed him right now, then ran away. We don't know the specifics, though. We don't know. You know what happened What the altercation was about or what? Specifically, you know, motivated the shooting. Portland Police obtained a warrant for his arrest yesterday. Explain what happened once they located him. Yeah, Yesterday, Mama County Judge issued the warrant. It wasn't Portland Police located him is just before 7 P.m. members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, which is a bunch of different law enforcement agencies. We were waiting outside in apartment near Olympia, Washington, where they thought Reinhold staying right now was saying they confronted him as he was getting into a vehicle and that's when shooting began. The U. S marshals said that he had a gun and was threatening the lives of law enforcement. We have been able to confirm that we don't know if right now fired at them or what exactly transpired.

1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens
"So my episode today. is about the nineteen eighty Mount Saint Helens eruption. So now, we weren't alive then even though we were not alive, then it was you know years until Jillian. Many years. Until we were born. We are in our. Mid Twenty. S. So we're very youthful. Yeah. We say what's a CD or whatever I don't know anything I couldn't even pretend to be a teenager because I have no idea went technology. Don T TIKTOK ON THE TIKTOK You know on the TIKTOK so. Nineteen Eighty Mount Saint Helens eruption has a lot of parallels to what's going on in the world today, but it's an interesting story. So to to start with for our non US friends and Non West Coast friends, I didn't know the details about this when I started researching it but Mount Saint Helen's which is known as a lot lot to the indigenous lets people and Lou wit. Luella cloud to the click a tat is an active stretch of Okano located in. Skamania. County. Washington in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States I. Apologize to the Washingtonians. If I pronounced Skamania county your Skamania county incorrectly. I'm sure I will get an email about this. Fifty miles eighty kilometers northeast of Portland Oregon Ninety, six miles or one hundred and fifty four kilometers south of Seattle Washington. So to get a sense of where Mount Saint Helen's is. If you're thinking of both Washington state and Oregon is roughly like. Square ish rectangular ish in shape with Washington, in the north and Oregon just below. Mount Saint Helen's is in the lower left quadrant of Washington state near the border of Oregon. and. She's roughly halfway between Portland, and the Portland Oregon and Olympia Washington, which is the Washington state capital. Okay. also relevant northeast of Mount. Saint Helen's is what's called Spirit Lake. And there's a bunch of little rivers and creeks in that area just due to like the geology of the area but almost directly north of the mountain is the north fork toodle river. River toodle or Poudel T. O. U. T.. L. E. Title River. So. Also? Mount Saint. Helen's takes its English name from the British diplomats. Lowered Saint Helen's is a friend of explorer George Vancouver who made a survey of the area in the late eighteenth century The volcano is located in the cascade range is part of the cascade volcanic arc, which is a segment of the Pacific Ring of fire that includes over one hundred and sixty active volcanoes and for the record before the explosion mount. Saint, Helen's stood at nine, thousand, six, hundred and eighty feet high. So. They knew it was part of the ring of the ring of Fire Okay Yeah Yeah So. They knew as part of the ring of fire. It had experienced some activity throughout recorded history but it. It remained dormant basically from its last period of activity in the eighteen, Forty S and eighteen fifties. So by one thousand, nine hundred had been more than one hundred years before there was any like really significant activity that includes ash like little burps and like any kind of flow or anything like that. So. At this point people were pretty complacent thinking nothing's going to happen anytime soon it's fine like it's a dormant volcano for all intents and purposes until we get to the spring of nineteen eighty. Okay. So, there were several small earthquakes beginning on March fifteenth of that year indicating that magma may have begun moving below the volcano also just as an f. y. we talked about natural disasters on episode sixty one which was called here I am rock. You like a hurricane I talked a little bit about that about volcanoes in that episode. So if you want to refresh your memory about the basics of what's in a volcano check that out episode sixty one, it's very good. Thank you. So on March Twentieth Three Forty Five PM Pacific Standard Time, which everything will be NPS T. Shallow magnitude four point two earthquake centered below the volcano's north flank signal the volcanoes return from one hundred, twenty three years of hibernation. A gradually building earthquake swarm saturated area seismographs, and started to climax at about noon on March twenty fifth reaching peak levels in the next two days including an earthquake registering five point one on the Richter scale. A total of one hundred and seventy four shocks of magnitude. Two point six greater were recorded during those two days. That's a lot. Yeah. So geologists in that area are like look is no not a great sign. Initially. There was no direct sign of eruption but small earthquake induced avalanches of snow and ice were reported from aerial observations. So this mountain is shaking and you know stuff is falling off. It's not it's not nothing. At twelve thirty, six PM on March twenty seventh phreatic eruptions which are explosions of steam caused by magma suddenly heating groundwater. So that's like a quick like spur. Of, like Ash and Steam K ejected and smashed rock from within the old summit crater. Excavating a new crater, two, hundred and fifty feet wide. And sending an ass column about seven thousand feet into the air. So you yeah, knock. Great. So by this date along, east trending fracture system had also developed across the summit area. So there's cracks forming in the summit. This was followed by more earthquake swarms in a series of explosions that said ash even higher above there. And most of this ash fell between three and twelve miles from its fendt. But some was carried hundred fifty miles south to bend Oregon or two hundred and eighty five miles east to spokane Washington. So the ash went pretty far and those who were like what the What is happening here? So? then. A second new crater and a blue flame were observed on March twenty ninth.

Music that Imitates Inanimate Objects
"Hello. I'm Naomi Lewin. Welcome to classics for kids. It's pretty obvious that at the beginning of the second movement of Beethoven's Eighth Symphony The Orchestra is imitating something mechanical. That's not a clock ticking. It's a metronome, the machine that was invented to show exactly how fast or slow a piece of music should be played before the metronome. The only way to show the tempo of a piece was by writing fast slow, very fast or very slow usually in Italian on the music. But a composer had no way of telling you exactly how fast very fast was. That's where the. Comes in. In, the early eighteen hundreds Dutch inventor named Dietrich Nichols Vinko perfected a machine that could be adjusted to take at set speeds, but Vinko wasn't a good salesman. So he didn't get credit for it. A friend of Beethoven's Johann. NEPOMUK melt. Seoul was the one who took out the patent on the metronome and marketed it. So he gets the credit. When you see 'em m equals sixty on a piece of music. The M M's stands for metals. metronome equals sixty a metronome marking of sixty is one tic per second, which is about the speed if your pulse. battleplan was the only composer to write music imitating an inanimate object something that's not alive. He wasn't even the only one to write music takes composers love to put clocks into their music. That's the symphony number one, hundred, one by Franz Joseph Haydn, which is nicknamed the clock for pretty obvious reasons. Hungarian composers ultime Kodi put a musical clock into his opera Janos. There's also a famous fairy tale character for Houma clock striking midnight was very important and very scary Sergei. prokofiev wrote a ballet Cinderella including the clock. One last. A tick that slightly off balance, there's a piece by American composer. Leroy Anderson called the syncopated clock. In this piece, the clock goes tick Tock Tick Tock and then suddenly. It does something different syncopation in music is when you shift the accent from where you expect it. To, someplace you don't. Leroy Anderson loved inanimate objects. He wrote another piece imitating one that's just about disappeared these days before there were computers with printers, there was the typewriter. In music, it's not just instruments that imitate inanimate objects sometimes singers due to. That's from the first act of Jacques Offenbach, opera the tales of Hoffmann in which the hero Hoffman falls in love with a woman named Olympia or whether he thinks Olympia is a woman but she's really a mechanical doll in the middle of singing her mechanical music she runs out of steam and someone has to wind her back up. Played. Some wonderful jokes with their mechanical music
AI Tries to Save the Whales
"We head to the Pacific northwest to understand the obstacles that confront these endangered orcas and how researchers are using artificial intelligence to help orcas and humans to coexist. WHAT HAPPENED TO J thirty five or Tala wasn't an anomaly the southern resident cavs have been struggling to survive for some time they've been listed as endangered in both the US and Canada since the mid arts. But their numbers continue to fall in two, thousand five there were eight. Now there are just seventy two in the wild one lives in captivity. Their home waters in the sailor, see an elaborate network of channels that span the coasts of Seattle Vancouver from Olympia Washington in the south to the middle of Vancouver Island British Columbia in the north. The see encompasses puget sound the Strait of Georgia and the Strait of Juan De. FUCA. Much of it is rich in natural beauty and teeming with wildlife with rural shorelines backlit by tall evergreens and craggy. Hills. It's a magnet for nature lovers who crave inactive lifestyle, but the Pacific northwest has been getting crowded these paths few decades with people competing for space with the local wildlife as of two thousand twenty. Washington's population was nearly eight million and Vancouver's topped out at about two and a half million and is projected to grow. It's become a busy place. So you see things like Bald Eagles nesting next to satellite dishes in busy parking lots. Big. Ravens Beg for food next to cold press coffeeshops commuters hop on ferry boats here like people in other towns take the train or the car. On these trips they can sometimes spot the southern resident orcas milling about but a lot of the time the orchestra framed by ferry boats or container ships. The area's ports are growing along with the population. In twenty eighteen Porta Vancouver ship activity reached a record high and the port is undergoing numerous expansions. Increased. Commercial ship traffic on top of recreational boat activity is one of the biggest threats facing the whales that live here. This traffic causes numerous problems ships pollute the water, and they're loud under the waves. As we're about to find out the ocean is getting crowded and noisy, and it's negatively impacting the whales. Dr Lance Barrett Lennard is the director of the Marine Mammal Research Program at the Vancouver Aquarium. There's also a lot of heavy vessel traffic that comes in some of the going to the port of Vancouver some of the going to the port of Seattle unfortunately both both major west coast ports. have their roots running through. Southern Resident Critical Habitat. But the obvious problem he says is that more boats increase the chances that Wales will get hit. especially, if the boats are going fast. Whale is far less likely to be hit by ship that's running slow, and if it's running less than ten knots, a good chance to survive even if it is hit, that's just the facts. So regulators started issuing slowdown directives, it few areas these slowdowns are mandatory, but in the Pacific northwest or the orcas live, they remain mostly voluntary. Mariner say they want to avoid the ORCAS but there are business conflicts John? Berg. Is With Pacific, Merchant Shipping Association a Trade Group that represents about thirty shipping lines that do business along the Pacific coast. For a lot of ships. Schedule Integrity. Is. Paramount. and. So they need to be at a certain port at a certain day in a certain time. And so planning is essential especially since coming in late can mean higher fees and lost revenue. Mariners go back and forth about how quiet ships they talk about things like reducing noise by finding optimum speed or by retrofitting or upgrading vessels with more efficient quieter parts. They even say that in some cases slower vessels. Moore of Iraq. Now to researchers, this is a settled question, the faster ship the louder the ship. And it's the noise that is even more detrimental to the ORCAS than ship. Strikes. The underwater cacophony is mostly generated by ship's propeller. It releases vapor filled bubbles. ORCAS like all CETACEANS rely on echo location to communicate, made and find food. For ORCAS, it's how they find salmon as the ORCAS chase salmon they make clicking sounds that they send out into the ocean. The click then bounces off of the salmon and creates an echo, and that's how they know where the salmon are underwater noise pollution specialist. Dr Lindy Wildcard is an adjunct research associate at Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada. CETACEANS are particularly vocal of the US sounds to find their prey actively using bio sonar. And the various noise sources that humans put into the ocean can affect. Wales and that they are masked, that is the sounds of interests are obliterated by by US adding this sort of acoustics smog of of noise so they can't hear as well. You can actually hear the masking that wildcard is talking about listen to this underwater recording of northern resident orcas who have different dialects from their neighbors, the southern resident or is this recording was provided by Orca lab a nonprofit research center based on Hanson Island near British. Columbia. Canada. Those. SQUEALS ARE ORCA calls. Here's what happens if you overlay their calls with recording of the ship underwater. It drowns out the ORCAS squeals. All you hear is ship noise. That's because the sound created by the ship is at the same high frequency ranges the ORCAS. It's kind of like being at a dinner party where people are talking over each other. But for the ORCAS, the increased sound means they'll lose their seat at the table. If the ORCAS can't hear themselves they can't hear the seminar and so they can't find food. And that can have far reaching impacts that affect the entire population. Their stress hormones can increase. with, noise with the seismic Airgun sounds they also reduce their vocalisations to the point of sometimes falling outright silent, which means they can't communicate with each other and that probably affects mating. If mayors could know where the ORCAS are. They could try to avoid that part of the ocean or at least slow down. So their engine noise doesn't drown the ORCAS OUT Ideally. They'd only have to go slow when the orcas were in the area, but it can be hard for ship captains to confirm where the whales are in fog rain or even under normal circumstances ship captains can't always see them they often miss them. So some conservationists along with the Canadian government installed underwater hydrophones in the Salish Sea along the coast of British Columbia near known ORCA HABITAT, they wanted to be able to track the ORCAS through their echo location calls. But remember how it works. Sound was drowned out by the ship's well, it's not just hard for the orchestra here. It's hard for the humans to. It can take people a long time to listen to all those recordings figuring out what is well sound, and what is this ship fish or other marine life sounds the orcas make noise at all hours of the day and night, and all of that sound even that record overnight has to be listened to by someone. Up. Next. How artificial intelligence can help speed this process up? And maybe find a solution for both the ships and the whales.
Google AI Tries to Save the Whales
"Washington state and southern Vancouver Island are home to a distinct population of killer whales called the southern resident orcas. Black. On top with contrasting white I and saddle patches each has its own distinctive markings. From may through October tourists flock to this region to see the southern residents revered for their social nature and strong family ties offspring remain with their mothers for all of their adult lives. But, lately, those lives are being cut short. cavs are dying before they're born or shortly afterwards. The plight of one mother Orca and her calf captured global media attention a few summers ago. Marine biologists are keeping a close eye on an endangered Orca off the waters around the southern Gulf islands. Named Talla J. Thirty five to researchers her calf lived only about thirty minutes but instead of letting it fall to the ocean floor Tala carried the dead calf pushing it around with her nose for an unprecedented amount of time and hundreds of miles researchers say the whales are known to grieve, but never for this many days Orca known as j thirty five is still carrying her baby seventeen days. Later, the mother is going through a deep grieving process, but since then the mother has been getting weaker and weaker as choice to carry, it's dead offspring above the water assigned, she may be experiencing difficult and complex emotions not so unlike our own. Scientists believe calf died of starvation. The incident was well documented by researchers like Paul Cotterell with the Department of fisheries and Oceans Canada. I was out for the whole two weeks and it was very very emotional to see. Just, that bond and hell mum was just so they're reluctant to to let go of the calf. Cattrall knows these whales well, he and other researchers have been closely documenting all three southern resident family pods known as J K and L. The DFO for twenty, three years these animals are photographed in did. All of them every year. So we know. All the animals and we also know. When calves are born and went animals die. So this population is a very well studied in very well understood. Researchers know that the ORCA food supply Chinook salmon is becoming smaller in size and there are fewer salmon being born mostly because of overfishing. And the wheels are having more trouble finding the salmon that is still around because of a dramatic increase in ship traffic in this area. Perhaps, the biggest challenge, these marine mammals face. From The Wall Street? Journal. This is the future of everything. I'm Janet. Baben today on the podcast. Get to Know Lindsey Vonn
"Heard last week's episode cows good time to go back and check it out. We collect, introduce yourself I am when's Yvonne? I won the Olympics in downhill skiing I'm from Minnesota and I am currently engaged to peek a SU- ban of the New Jersey devils and have three dogs slap makes you a rebel girl I mean I'm a rebel girl because I've always followed my dreams and a really high goals for myself and I think that's what being a rebel really means you know striving for greatness and being the best that you can be. Simone had to make some hard decisions in order to proceed gymnastics. What were some hard decisions you had to make on your way to becoming an Olympic skier I? Think every athlete honestly has to make hard decisions especially if you WANNA be in Olympia and I'm the oldest of five kids and my parents had to decide. To our entire family to Colorado from Minnesota and so that was a huge sacrifice for my whole family But we all did it together and I wouldn't have made it without their support, but it was definitely a a really difficult time for all of us. Tell us about the work you're doing with the lose Yvonne Foundation well. I'm really proud of what I'm doing with Lindsey. Vonn Foundation and I actually started it when I had my second ACL surgery and so a little complicated but ACL is like your main ligament that crosses through kind of the middle of your knee, and that really is the stabilizing ligament for your whole leg and. Very critical, obviously for skiing. So it was a very long recovery and. The second ACL surgery I had in two years. So needless to say, I had a lot of time on my hands and that was a positive of that injury was being able to start my foundation. In your knee tube series career day you interview notable women and fell female athletes what inspired you to start the series. So career actually started because I was trying to think of ways to keep kids motivated during the coronavirus lockdown. Was Not being able to go to school and doing some online stuff and. A lot of kids that were involved in sports had a really hard time. You know they couldn't practice with their teams or coaches all the gyms were shut down. So I just wanted to have them connect with their heroes are idols, and you know kind of keep their minds focused on the future and not what's currently going on. So you know kind of connected some of my scholarship winners with heroes in in their particular field know Caroline Wozniacki, Misty Copeland Ballerina. have an astronaut that's coming on I just have some incredible people and their these kids that have these scholarships are able to talk directly to their heroes and. That's something that really is profound to me because when I met my idol peekaboo street when I was nine at an autograph signing that was really the reason why I wanted to become an Olympian. So I hope that this interaction with these people allows them to really stay motivated and focused and know that the dream is actually achievable. Gown is a big part of skiing and gymnastics. How do you get back up? I think falling is a part of life you know. Maybe gymnastics and skiing, and it's a little bit more physical but I think we all have obstacles in our lives and You know the the the fall or the obstacles really the important part. The important part is knowing that you can pick yourself back up and keep going and learn from your mistake. Mistakes aren't bad unless you don't learn from them. So I always look it falls as opportunities to learn opportunities to get better. And we're inherently in our entire lives always gonNA fall, but we have to have the strength to pick ourselves backup. Many of our young fans help to pursue their sport professionally. Do you have any advice for young girls who dream of Competing in the Big Leagues? You know the biggest piece of advice I can give you is. Always dream big and work as hard as you can always give one hundred and ten percent. You know if you always give your best, you're always going to get the best outcome and no matter. If that's winning Olympic gold medal or competing on your high school team or making it to college or getting scholarship you know everyone has their own. Best you know, and you just have to work

"In Olympia it was a bill that would allow authorities to take control over people like Francisco Calderon a conservatorship weirdly it never made it to a vote in Olympia Democrats were in charge the push this to a vote ask yourself why and Republicans wanted it we can push for I think this bill was specifically from Steve Irwin what Democrats not do anything on this because it might get in the way of their end goal which is to change housing policy we're talking about Seattle but really all across the state it's much worse in Seattle there are people who have decided to completely ignore the root causes of homelessness a prolific offenders and instead say this is really about them just not being able to afford housing and by doing that it allows them to focus exclusively on an ideological solution to a problem that doesn't exist in the way they think it does we know the Francisco Calderon is committing these crimes and is a danger because of his mental illness we know that that is a fact as what a sister says what you're telling me that she's like I believe we even have audio from awhile ago three four months ago of him saying he needs health technology that he's struggling are we going to pretend that the reason why he's living out on the streets and recommitting because of housing affordability are we gonna pretend that he's out there on the streets because of a a racist system gendered system of oppression is that really what we're going to do that's what the Democrats want Democrats right now could change their tune and make it easier to put people like this in mental health care facilities.

"Then I think at aged thirty two alexander the great dies he dies in the field he dies mysteriously he dies suddenly everything. He's built the biggest empire. The world has ever seen is thrown into absolute chaos. And what Kate Armstrong Calls Alexander's Royal Brose his hangers on his group of close friends and generals in warriors are instantly fighting over his empire and Olympias realizes she wants to hold power. She has to put all of her energy into protecting acting her grandson Alexander's infant son and maintaining his place as Alexander's successor ruler of this empire tire. Rather than letting everything fall apart does help the culture that came from Helps explain his is famous last words that he leaves his kingdom to the strongest and then he dies. So that's always been excited as these famously disastrous last words like why just say who has errors but he so famously loved and celebrated celebrated as Macedonian culture. He's Macedonian about it everybody grab for it. Yeah his mother and his human father. Both both are really strongly enmeshed in this idea. That strongest person rules. Yeah and that. That's what's best for the world Olympias believes that. What's best for the world is that her grandson is in charge? And so she fights with every ounce of her energy gee and her skill to make that habit basically the next several years are going to be taken up by what's called the wars of the successors so this is when all the Royal Bros.. There are all kinds of battling it out for. Who's going to be the next Alexander who's going to take his place so Olympia goes to work immediately goes on for years? And then one of Alexander's commanders. Basically says Olympiads. I want you to come back over to Macedonia to take care of your grandson now. She's no dummy. This could be a trap She's not going to walk right into this but eventually she goes but a force has been brewing to go against Mr. So again we have the two camps. We Have Philip era dais and all the people who are backing him to take the throne and then we have team Alexander's son. Filiberto has gotten married. Need to woman called. You're a dicey. She's the daughter of a woman named synonymous. WHO's an incredible woman all in our own SONANI and her daughter basically basically decided? We're going to get you married to Phillip Davis and we're finally going to take this room but Olympia that's and her. Supporters are having none of it the two armies meet in the fall of three seventeen at the Macedonian Malaysian border. So we have your indices army and Olympia says army coming together for the final showdown offer this empire. Though no neither of these women command the forces per se. They are most certainly riding at the head of them. You're a dicey dresses in full Macedonian battlegear ear but Olympia chooses to deck herself out as a worshiper of dyonisis her absolutely brilliant understanding of who she is and what she means to these people and she shows up dressed as a goddess essentially. She is this fifty something grandmother of this infant king and she is every inch the VIC. Greek goddess that they expect in full Regalia on a white horse at the front of the battle and I love imagining her. A strider horse hair whipping in the wind staring down this enemy army ready to go all in for this last bid for power. Wow reminding these people who she is and what she stands for that Eurydice his entire hire army quits joins her side. So without even having to Fight Olympia says one the day. What do you think that really happened? Even darker hates our guts says it happened. Wow that's the way to win a battle through effective costuming I mean the UN. I heard one hundred percent get into that kind of warfare. If it comes down to commitment accurate costuming I am there so at this moment. She has more power than any woman in the entirety of the Greek world. In charge of the Kingdom and in charge of Alexander's and she had just stuck with that Oh things might have been okay. She Has Philip Era Dais stabbed because we have to get rid of that guy and she lets you're a dicey dicey choose her own death which ends up being by hanging. which is the death of choice for royal women of this time apparently if she had stopped up there perhaps things could have gone differently? But she doesn't stop there she decides to kill this guy. CASSANDRA WHO's another one of the Royal Bros.. Who she it has a grudge with? She decides to kill his brother and she defiles the tomb of another one of his brothers. In revenge for Alexander's Alexander's death. So then she kills one hundred Cassandra's friends. This is not a great move. It does not make her a lot. The friends in the Macedonian court is this behavior any worse than any of the men around her not really but because she's a woman in charge and it's just something that Macedonia cannot allow and she loses the things she has fought so hard to gain that goodwill and respect of the people and it's the end of Olympias Cassandra who's very angry rightly so very angry about what she's done comes riding into town and only bs just doesn't have the supporters at this point to be able to fight him so oh she has to essentially surrender and sadly he puts her to death in three sixteen and we aren't quite clear how she dies. There are several stories. The the one I liked best comes from Justin who gives her a little bit more noble drama. He says she goes out to meet the forces armed against her in full Royal Regalia. When win the crowd sees her there reminded of what God is she is and that she's Alexander the greats mother they are so struck with what she stands for that? They can't kill her. None of these people who have been sent to end her reign will do it. Really and eventually CASSANDRA has to hand pick relatives of the people. She killed To come and kill her because no one else will do it. It and she dies with her Chin up like a warrior and as Justin has it you could see Alexander even in his dying mother as horrendous as many of the things that she did are I do have a grudging respect for her. She thought literally to the death for her family and nothing was going to prevent them from having and every opportunity that she could fight and claw out of society for them. And though I I definitely we don't admire that in mother's now. Yeah I can't judge her. Yeah I mean it is true. Those were the times. Is this how you mother in third century BC agrees. We don't know and I mean no one can say that. She did not love her children. She was a dedicated mother. We know that the last he loved his mother. According into one ancient writer he said he wanted to consecrate her immortality to make his mother God just like become.

"So Alexander apparently jumps up and throws a drink in analysts face so outraged by this slight. This is the soap opera wedding. Yeah Scandal Hey. And in that moment instead of defending his son the King Philip rises drunkenly from his seat and points. His sword awarded Alexander in front of everyone. This feels very game frenzy as well except instead of killing everybody. The Olympia and Alex decide you know what fine. If we're not wanted here will leave. And she and Alexander self exile back to her hometown. Really this is a very bold and unexpected move. Yeah she isn't one to let anyone threaten her power or her sons power into publicly. Call it into question. This is what I mean about. She is outside of the box walks. She is thinking lots of steps ahead on the chessboard. I think she really understands the power of a power move who've That she is raising herself and her son above this uncouth behaviour half and she is going back to where she's appreciated. She aided eventually Phillips. The error of his ways realizes he's chased his very capable grown son away and he invites them both back to court. The gamble has paid off and she is back on top then. Everything blows up again. Dan When Philip is very publicly stabbed by a guy named Pausania one of his jilted lovers everything erupts into chaos consistently. Macedonia is without a almost immediately. The whispers start circling that it may have been Pausania who wielded the knife but of course it was Olympia. Who pushed him to do it again? We have no idea whether she was involved or not. I suspect not. Her son was back in Phillips Good graces. He was the clear next in line for the throne that she had a lot of reason to kill Philip other than Philip. Philip was kind of worst regardless. Her son is now in charge and as his mother. Olympias is in a position to wield a a lot of power prefers she and her son to cement their position in this court of as plutarch puts it great jealousies terrible hatred and endanger everywhere. So they start taking out anyone they see as a potential threat and this is when Olympia STAS one of the most brutal controversial show things I suppose that she ever does. She has Phillips Latest Wife that Macedonian Cleopatra and her infant baby killed there are a couple of versions of how she does it. Maybe she burns them both. Sit F. O.. Maybe she. She kills the baby in front of Cleopatra and that forces her to kill herself no possibly she sends her for a variety of suicide options. Another says Olympia Sends Cleopatra Three things a rope a dagger and a vial of poison and and lets her choose the way. She wants to go out somehow. She disposes of these two. Maybe they died of natural causes and it's all a- plutarch smear campaign it could be totally could be but also this viciousness par for the course for this court Everyone is doing this kind of thing and definitely Alexander has done infinitely worse things than this but the way that this entire interaction is framed by plutarch by all of the male writers later. They want us to believe that this killing is revenge because this woman dared to marry King Philip Nonsense this is a strategic power. Move to protect her son and his kingdom. Yeah I mean it is. Of course it's bloody it's cutthroat it's the ancient world right but it's not personal it's business but of course when a woman does it has to be personal it has mostly driven is Feminine Raid Jealousy was slighted and of course women could never strategize. They just react yeah. This is a woman who possibly arranged an entire maybe. These snakes are God's scenario to shoo her husband away but we're expected to believe that she murdered a baby because she was mad at this woman. Just it doesn't panel to me. This isn't the way that this strategic warrior woman women works. This is protecting her son. This is consolidating power. Doesn't make it great. You know I'm not a fan of these actions. So she does that. They nullify all the threats and then by three thirty four Alexander's replaces King of Macedonia. Pretty well assured and that's theo that he prepares to write off on his big decade-long adventure turning himself into the guy that we now call Alexander the Great. She watches him right away. Not Knowing this the last time they're ever going to see each other her. I think about this moment and again. This isn't a moment that really gets talked about a written about. But you just imagine that moment kerr standing there watching her son on. She's poured everything into so much. Love fierce protection everything. She knows everything she's learned has been put into do this. Boy Who is now a man and she's never going to see him again. So Alexander Rides off. Does many things back back home. She's not the region she's not running things but she's pretty close. She's taking the plunder he sending back in and making offerings for him. It places like Delphi and Athens. She's writing diplomatic letters to members of state into other regions. She's making sure that no thrown pretenders are going to take advantage manage of Alexander's absence. She's giving gifts to foreign leaders so she's not acting as regent but she is maintaining the status quo and she's really leaving leaving the chair open for when her son comes.

Her name all one word so they know we sent you time for a new name again so at some point in all this she picks up the name that she's now famous by which is Olympia. One version of how she gets it is that she takes it on in celebration of her husband's Sup- victory at the Olympics when his chariot team wins a big race. But I don't like that version of the story. It's also just as likely she gets it as as part of a Macedonian festival in honor of Zeus. And if she did in fact have an affair with Zeus Sandra boyfriend. So exactly I like like the image of Olympias claiming that name is her own having it be something she takes on herself to show her own power reminding people who she is and who she knows. Alexander lives with his mom at least until he's six years old. She is very involved involved in raising him in teaching him. He is raised on the stories of these heroes. That are in his bloodline. The important the powerful people from whom he comes And this destiny that he is born to you so while we don't know a lot about what she actually does. During during this period the fact that Alexander grows to manhood the fact that nothing bad happens to him the fact that he never gets shoved aside for other children says a lot about her fierceness about her savvy about her ability to keep her son safe which I think is really impressive. I don't think she gets enough credit for that and it works go. This training of this future hero works and he becomes his father's darling. Alexander's father is gone a lot. He's really busy. Expanding Macedonia's borders warring warring with other nations essentially making Macedonia the biggest power that the Mediterranean had ever seen really so by sixteen Alexander's doing well he's doing in great he's commanding armies. He's fighting off leary while his father is away. He's making Olympias very proud. And it seems like his ascension is assured and then in three thirty seven Philip decides he's going to get married again and this time he picks Macedonian woman and this is a major threat any children that this Macedonian woman gives birth who are going to be home town envoys. Alexander might be a hero but he's only half Macedonian And Olympia very concerned. And she's proven right pretty quickly. When in one of the worst for other of the bride drama moment set a wedding ever? Everyone's drinking everyone. Everyone's having a nice time. The father of the bride makes some very loud and off color comments he called on the Macedonians to pray to the gods for a legitimate Heir to the throne.

"The story goes that Alexander's Alexander's father is not actually King Philip. The second Alexander's father is actually Zeus. Yes he is in fact Demi God of course which not only means. He's unstoppable and people shouldn't try to oppose him. Because you don't WanNa make Zeus angry angry but that she was chosen by the God. This is the best adds to her prestige as well as his and we don't know if she's the one who starts circulating this story or if Alexander is the one who start circulating the story but to me it has they all of the hallmarks of an Olympias production and of course nobody can disprove this storied. And how are you going to prove that. It wasn't Zeus another brush with the Gods in her bedroom room comes later. Olympias has had two children a son and a daughter and the king comes to her bed and finds lines sneaks in her bed. Philip of course is freaked out by this but not as one might think because because there are snakes in his wife's bed that's totally normal. Apparently the problem is maybe these snakes are God. Oh maybe this is a god in bed with his wife and disturb them sure. That's that's some clear thing. So Oh he leaves her alone and he decides. That's it no more visiting Olympia. Says by chamber for me. Okay now how. She's no longer burdened with more pregnancies. More babies she can put all of her effort into raising two children that she has unless Zeus comes knocking again unless Uis comes knocking again but apparently he did not okay if this is also a Olympias production. This is very clever. Yeah she has established her boundaries without ever having to actually push back herself. Yeah cool against the king either way weird and one of the things that she becomes known for snakes in her bed.

"That's not just speculation and because some of the other women in this story have an incident very similar to that happen to them. This is where the other women come into the piece Philip L. UP. The second had multiple wives remember. We talked about one of these wives as as an example of how tough in a Philip shouldn't have problem with Olympia Right. He has that warrior than Illyrian Warrior Warrior Princess as a wife. What other ones the wonder woman lady fights with Sword Shield helmet remember? We talked about her. Will you know she had children with Philip. Imagine engine how Augusta Child of that woman trained in combat and maybe even leading troops melted with Phillips. DNA of how August those kids would be while here. They come come into the story and their female as we said earlier. It's hard to keep track of the names and the players in this story without a scorecard. This is the case by the way for any long wars thirty years' wars the same way where there's so much time for so much stuff to occur that it's impossible to keep track of it all. It's a multi generational racial soap opera. Kind of as we said I was trying to think of the way to simplify this. The best and the best way to say it is that Alexander's half sister. Mr The woman who we just talked about who is the daughter of Wonder Woman Philip. The second her name is Kanani. It looks like San if you have received written also trained in the ways of the warrior earlier in Princess's writes she's a killer a hand to hand killer apparently to very culture. I mean she's she's Philip the second's daughter. She's the king's daughter so she'll just kill you in a cultured sort of manner She's involved in what some historians call a scheme. It looks much more like a grab for power in this Post Alexandrian world. And let's remember power. This might not be because they're power. Hungry power is synonymous with safety here and the best way to get eliminated is to be shut out of power by your enemies. What happens though? Is that this Kanawha daughter of wonder woman and Philip the second makes a a bold play to seize one of the sources of power and authority in this very unstable post Alexandrian world and this is all happening in the wake of Alexander's death so a year to three. This is the initial you know. Initial power moves of this whole thing. There's two places that power emanates from officially in this world right now and it's the two kings Alexander's infant son Alexander the fourth with the Persian or bactrian. Mom I think he's still in Asia at this point but he's an infant right he's he's a prop in the power struggles for now. But then you have. Philip era day is the mascot king the one with the disability of some sort. He's is almost certainly being used as a poppet by the warlords you know who are the regions right. Were ruling for the king. WHO's right here? And he's indisposed at the moment but what happens is somebody steals the puppet from the warlords right that the person who's making it possible for you to keep the army loyal unhappy and thinking thinking that he's running the show and really you're running the show through him. If you're one of the world's how you. How do you prevent somebody from stealing the puppet? Well that's what this scheme is this daughter of Philip. The second I can wonder woman is bringing her daughter a day. You ridicule is going to be what she's known as eventually bringing her daughter and she's going to try to marry her or daughter to one of the king's right she can't have the infant king. He's not marriageable anyway. But Philip Paradise doesn't have a wife now if you're trying Ryan to pull this scheme off though you can't go to the warlords you can't go to the people who have the puppet now that you're going to steal the puppet from and say. Hey let me steal the puppet. Do I have your blessing. You gotTA bypass them well. How do you bypass them? You go right to the source of power the macaroni and army and the infantry the salt of the earth types so the warlord general type successors they get word that this is underway that the scheme is ongoing and that this woman Kanani is on the way and I've red sources that say she has a small bodyguard with her others that she's got a decent size entourage others just got a whole army behind her so I don't know which of those is true. But she's she's protected the general out someone to intercept her before she could get to the infantry. 'cause Lord knows the infantry will probably say yes to this deal and the intercepting force. Ah Somehow blocks her for a little bit of time and in that little bit of time she is killed. Sources differ on. What happened here? Everything I'm from assassinated to Violence breaking out between the various bodyguards. That leads to her being killed in the fray to a full blown Story again from one of the less reputable sources that she's giving a speech. She sounds fully like Phillips daughter in this warrior princess like she's getting up in the face of her assassins and and pleading your case and yelling coming at them and she's in the middle of a speech in one of these stories to the troops that are there. They're macaroni and troops there. Witnessing all this and while she's in the middle of the speech she's she's stabbed or killed and cut down in the middle of the conversation no matter which of those stories is true at apparently happens in a way that either the Macedonian troops see it at the time. I'm watching it live or hear about it soon after and they're outraged. You can't kill Philip. The second's daughter who the hell are you and and these warlords who are counting on these military forces to stay loyal to them are about to be thrown to the crocodiles by these same troops because they killed what Philip the second's daughters orders in front of them. The only way they managed to avoid disaster is to give in to what that now dead daughter of. Philip wanted the half have to go ahead and let this granddaughter Riphil Up This Day a year ridicule lady Mary the Mascot King Mary the poppet and and his attitude was ABC Bosworth who coined the phrase and. It's not very nice The marriage of the Amazon to the idiot. But it gives you a sense of what's going on here and easily easily controllable not very August Personality who was being controlled by these powerful marshalls is now going to be controlled by this powerful personality called a day aridity. And if you took an ancient Greek playwright brought them in the time machine and let them right for one of today's TV v daytime soap operas. That's how I see this whole whole situation unfolding. 'cause it looks like this is revenge from another one of Philip's wives lives against Olympias from the grave through her descendants. Something wonderfully Greek about that this day. A your riddick. He's going to be an instant thorn in on the side of Olympias though remember. She's she's the granddaughter of her husband. She's going to be an instant thorn in the side. Because what if she's able to make you you know. Phillip Davis the the Mascot King. What if she can make him legitimate enough so no one's gonNA wait around seventeen years for Olympia? His grandson to come of age in other words could she turn the puppet king into a real king the only king that she dominates. It's wonderful but I said earlier that this period is one of the ones I use as evidence for why history ruins fiction for me because we already have a wonderful story here. Kinda unbelievable wild you know And then in typical Alexandrian fashion the story gets kicked up two notches notch number one. Apparently the Alexander. The great had day ridicules father killed when she was a kid one of his purges you know potential competitor so if she didn't like the other side of the family to begin with she really doesn't like him. Now the other thing and I find this to be the one where I would send the script back to the screenwriter and said sorry you went too far. Nobody's going to buy that She's apparently something like sixteen years old. Her Age is tough to determine. In dividing dividing the spoils. The Robin Waterfield said sixteen. Wow and sixteen really doesn't mean anything in a neutral playing field historically speaking right because we all know people got married younger or Romeo and Juliet and she was like thirteen fourteen. Something like that but we're not talking about somebody who gets married and then ends up in somebody's royal family or what not. We're talking about somebody. Who almost immediately asserts her prerogatives and tries to rest as much control as she she can grab over the situation here? And she's not playing with a bunch of little court functionary. She's doing this in a room full of these generals and marshals. That are so great. I said that only like Napoleon's group generals and marshals and Jenga's cons. I mean it's rarified air and some of these guys are like multiple times her age. There's a bunch of these dudes in their late sixties. All the way up to their mid seventies still in the field fighting by by the way they don't make people like this anymore We should point out guys. who were fighting with Alexander's Dad? The day Alexander was born and and some sixteen year old is going to come in there who wasn't even a part of the story five minutes ago and start telling them how it's going to be. This is insane and I wouldn't believe it when I do my multi part in over the forty five fifty seven episodes. Whatever it's going to be on my cable channel? I'm going to find some actress from that region because I feel like there's in my head anyway. I have very specific kind of fire in mind. That's native to the region. I guess you could say you know Greece northern Greece Albania Nia Bulgaria. Maybe maybe Sicily And then go find yourself like a sixteen year old from there who it sounds like something out of the hunger games. Doesn't it too much to be believed because this sixteen-year-old is not going to stay in the shadows at all now. The year she marries Philip Day though is three twenty one. BC Z.. E. This is two years after Alexander. The great dies and it is the year that the whole post Alexander deal on how we're going to run. Things goes murderously sideways. The deal made in the wake of Alexander's death under pressure in haste. It never seems like that had much much of a chance of lasting especially with all these ambitious powerful people involved. It would require a lot of good behavior on a lot of people's parts to understand the setup because it's kind of important Essentially what all these people did in deciding how they were gonNA run Alexander's Empire after he died was to run it like the Persians ran. There's really if you want to look at it similar to the way. The macaroni is ran Macedonia before they got all big and powerful. All these great successors these generals these marshals these. He's high administrators these bodyguards Alexander would all be given territories. You know think Al Capone southside his territory. PTOLEMY PTOLEMY GETS Egypt it's all these people rule these areas and they ruled them kind of like kings and I keep calling him warlords because they fit the definition of the term at the same time. One historian reminds us is that these are at this time period people who are practically kings themselves fabulously wealthy immensely famous. Lots of troops Swear swear allegiance to them. I mean these are these are kings in their own right and you start if you're a king after a while wanting to be treated like a king and not really wanting to bow the need any boss of bosses but this system has one. That's the deal. It is like a Persian system where all of the SATRAPS are kings in their own territory. But there there's someone called the king of kings and that was the high commander while that person is a title in this system is regent and they they rule with the royal power in the name of the two kings who are not capable of ruling at the moment. This person just happens to get this job Because he was at Alexander's band side as Alexander Lay Dying..

"Was this sort of a gala dinner. We claim the leader. It was a much more down to earth. Sort of leadership by comparison and Cassandra is supposed to have seen the Persians. Doing this in front of Alexander Zander to Alexander and laughing at it or making fun of it and in the story Alexander and this is a sign probably of the MEGLOMANIAC but maybe he would have done this back in the old days Alexander Graham by the hair and starts smashing his head against the wall. Scaring Cassandra so badly that we're told told. I think it was plutarch. Who said that decades later? Long after Alexander's dead and gone. A CASSANDRA couldn't even pass a statue of the man without going weak in the knees and I think plutarch said taking quite a while to recover. Cassandra was hardly the only person though scared at this time Alexander had everybody on edge. It's like the Third Reich at the end or I mean all these rulers get a little unstable at the end and they see plots everywhere There are a lot of people who may at this time. I thought that it was worth taking a chance on trying to get rid of Alexander. Because if you didn't get rid of him he was likely to get rid of you. And CASSANDRA here's one of people implicated as a potential participant in Alexander's death. By the way not only is antithesis. Oldest son Cassandra here CA sanders brother. Another son of antipathy is Alexander's cup bearer. The one who just to make sure that this Cup does not get out of my hands ends and nobody spikes it with anything. That guy is anticipators other son now the only time you care about the the ancestry of Kings Cup bearer. It's a little like an offensive lineman in football. You only care about their name. Apparently when something goes wrong with the only time the poor cup bearer gets mentioned is when something goes wrong or depending on you know what the Cup bears involved with and who they're involved with when something goes right on June tenth June eleven three twenty three B C e a thirty two year old Alexander. The great dies is and no one to this day can say definitively why theories his abound in all directions from the natural to the unnatural from the common sense and obvious to the wild guy had a lot of reasons reasons he might have died though and disease is an obvious. One in medical professionals have been looking and examining the the evidence from hundreds of years later that writers have kept about this kind of stuff and they I will proclaim definitively it was just disease not disease and I've heard everything typhus cholera malaria. West Nile virus. All of it. Then there's the sort of common sense once you can look at it and go. This guy was a major war wounds. That probably began to take its toll. the drinking is a long term arm and a chronic and still at very high levels. I mean that will take a toll mixing it all together could be accumulation things we can his immune system in the West West Nile. Virus gets him revenge of the Persian empire through the mosquito but there has always been a tradition tradition modern and ancient included by most of the sources that Alexander was assassinated. Poisoned that Cassandra brought the poison that the cup bearer son of antipathy feted Alexander that the poison might have been mixed by Aristotle. Donald himself appalled by Alexander's descend into tyrannical madness. And that maybe CASSANDRA's job wasn't to go there and plead for his dad's job in life but to assess Alexander's Sanity and willingness to be reasonable. Because remember antipathy and those people are all back in in Greece getting letters and hearing stories. But maybe you send your son say get a look for yourself. And if he's not reasonable take him out. Olympias certainly thinks antipathy and company did it and she will eventually proclaim this publicly. And you have to be careful because because the propaganda from this period following Alexander's death is heavy duty and it comes from all sides so saying he killed. Alexander would be a huge propaganda and a tool but you can tell by the way it helps take something you know. There was always a lot of gasoline. Soaked would in the Olympia Olympias anticipated relationship. This is when it turns into a vendetta. A real clan blood feud between The official name. For the the antipathy treads which are the family of antipathy but think about it like Oh you know the Gambino Bonano's the antipathy rids and and Olympia says clan which includes two distinct one's really her clan back home remember she's she's May become the regent of her homeland during this time period because rapport brother who married. Cleopatra Alexander's sister gets himself killed in a war in Italy and apparently the kids are too young. So Cleopatra or Olympia Olympia or both or maybe running the show back in the old pirate's Malaysian homeland and now with pretty much. No male family members around to succeed. She's kind of the front and center face of the Royal Family back in Macadamia or what was the royal family. And this is where you just get the feeling that All the people around Alexander are feeling really bad that he didn't take that good advice. Mary one woman. Or what the hacking take a page out of his dad's playbook and Mary to make sure one of them's a full blooded Macedonian Get a few kids going before you leave you for your expedition in Asia. By the time you die here in three twenty three. VCE At thirty to thirty two right You'd have a couple of kids kids back in Macedonia. If you get lucky an air maybe twelve years old. Maybe thirteen years old by this time. I didn't do the math now. We all know how the macaroni history goes. Does the likelihood of a child you know. Having the throne kept long enough for them to succeed. is a long shot and Macadamia but the older. You are the better the chance you'll make it and let's be honest. And he kid of Alexander is going to have a blood line. That's incompatible right. So maybe that's get out of jail free card from Typical magazine history. The son of Alexander Grant Philip the second. And let's be honest. You know who will be there guarding you until she dies of old age or something else Olympia. Yes because the interest with Alexander's heir will line up with his mother. The same way that Alexander's interested when this will be the role she'll play for for the rest of her life. The Guardian of the air but if Alexander seven years back in Macedonia before he left for Asia. What am I talking about? Well there's not much There is a a non official wife so Mr. She's often called in. The child's often called the illegitimate son of Alexander. His name is Harry Kallis. He's three or four years old by by this time. And he's off somewhere like bacteria which is monthly modern Afghanistan or a real real real upper part purge. He's a long way away and his mother's barbarian for goodness the sake or at least the Macedonians would think so or at least half barbarian in any way. This kid does not get anywhere near the attention you would think he would get until powerbrokers feel like they can use use him then he all of a sudden I guess in some sources appears on the scene. I've read some historians who questioned whether he really existed at all But there is something real that everyone can point to Alexander's got an official wife in Persia and she's pregnant when Alexander dives she apparently quickly kills Alexander's otherwise keeping. The bloodline pure. The Macedonians inversions. Both are into that sometimes. But if you're worried about a thirteen or fourteen or twelve year old air back in macaroni. The one he didn't have surviving surviving long enough to get to the throne. What chance does a kid who isn't even born yet have what's more it could be? A female might not make it to term. This is the ancient world after all the bottom line. Though is that there's no logical easy answer to what do we do now. Once Alexander Alexander Dies and if you think about it it's it's really kind of a crazy moment history. These are always my favorite things in naturally. There's never enough information. Did it really go down the way most of the sources kinda say it went down. which is that when Alexander died? There is no plan as we said he supposed to the story. He says that when he's asked on his deathbed to whom he leaves the empire you know if you're basically an emperor Alexander who's the next emperor and he says to the strong guest very macho chill macaroni and homeric answer may be something you could justify. A Darwinian may the best man win kind of competition for the throne but disastrous for his people. When you're talking about this as a successor to the entire policy right why don't you fight it out and we'll see? That's that's GONNA lead to more deaths from macaroni soldiers than Philip and Alexander's wars put together. The Macedonian infantry didn't suffer terribly as you might think because they were so victorious and so dominant and I had a professor once that said if you WANNA know the way to defeat the best army in any age in history split it up and make it fight itself. He saw that in Roman history by the way the nastiest most dangerous opponents the legionary ever faced were other legionary and civil wars That's what's going to happen in the next y this is crazy even say over the next forty four or forty five years. That's how long it will take for the to the strongest best thing to be settled there known as the war of the Alexandrian successors of the wars of the successors of the wars of the diabetic. diatoms kyw that's the Greek word for successors. The rest of Olympia has life by the way we'll be spent as a player in this geopolitical struggle that that will happen in phases. It's not like forty four forty five years of continual war there there'll be multiple phases that happen and there's so many players it is to me anyway. Easily the most complicated struggle in the ancient world it is very tough to keep track of as they say in sports. Players without a scorecard and dizzying array of personalities is nowadays a very weird Crabs in a bucket type dynamic where the most august just scary and impressive. People are eliminated early because everyone who's less competent less impressive bands together to take him down. Olympias will be one of those people by the way she is a very scary player in the early phases of this. So she's gotten rid of as quickly as is anybody can do it. But she's very hard to deal with because she represents ghosts impressive. Ghosts the power of Olympia which stemmed from her relationship to Philip for awhile. And then from her relationship to Alexander after that will will now stem from the power that those former figures still possess it will it will flow through her. I think about her like this priestess but now the authorioty and Gravitas and reputation of Philip and Alexander combined are emanating through her any defects. The infantry of Alexander's. Here's army. Let me explain when Alexandra dies. The story is that Everybody Kinda looks at each other..

"If it did happen. What was going on there was it? Some outbreak of you know like raging hormones and jealousy and all this sort of stuff from one wife to another the real soap opera stuff or you stole my husband. I'm GonNa get you know Elizabeth Carney points out that these are high Falutin. Diplomatic Marriage is is With kings go out and sleep with anyone they want. I mean this is not a question of of sexuality and all that especially probably not by Her Age in the ancient world world. This is about power and in some cases about personal security and those two things are related. And the way you know this. This is that had cleopatra. You Know Phillips last wife Gotten to Olympia Sanal Alexander. I The shoe very well could have been on the other foot. Elizabeth Kearney says says that this very likely was do unto others before they did unto US thing you hit their family atlas family before they get you do athletes of course the uncle of Cleopatra and he dies two one of the things That Carney points out though. Who is that people? Die A lot in these macaroni. Empower transitions as we said. And by the standards of the time and place this may have been a relatively lightweight purge right merciful purge. This side of the Family Cleopatra was always going to get cut off any of her offspring were to it is unusual of it won't be as unusual after this time period for one woman to be eliminating another woman and a female child likely female child Europa that that's unusual but at these were Macedonian mails it would have been real politique in typical Macedonian stuff because it's a female. It's blamed on jealousy and whatnot but Elizabeth Kearney Arne says and she seems to come down if I'm reading right on the on the idea that it did happen but it happened for the same kind of calculating she says it was always a very calculating person that it comes down to the same sort of calculation that Philip himself husband now in the ground would have made hardcore real list and she got Cleopatra and the Atlas side of the family before they got her and her son. And how it actually happened is once again the debatable stuff I mean did she carry Gary Out. The killings herself d'Ici order them. How was it done a much later? Unreliable source famously. Says that she had The wife of Philip and the infant or infants dragged over eight a heap of burning coals like a giant barbecue mccue which again colors historical reputation whether or not she did that. The killing of the infant to is very hard for for everyone and Elizabeth. Carney goes into that quite a bit and how that would have been perceived during the time period and all this kind of stuff. Carney rights that other than the novelty of the woman on woman and violence It might not have rattled people that much and she writes quote. Several factors indicate that contemporaries were not particularly surprised prized or bothered by olympias actions. The mere absence of the incident for most accounts is suggestive. It was not an attention. grabber unlike other acts of violence committed by Alexander or Olympias the sources do not mention the Mcginn at least in terms of Olympia dynastic. Murders were a dime A. It doesn't before and after these particular deaths and some of those murdered were children Phillips mother had been accused albeit almost certainly unjustly of dynastic murderers one suspects. She writes that many thought that Adolescent Cleopatra could hardly have expected anything else wants. Philip was dead. They had committed themselves to what proved to be the losing side in a dynastic struggle and past rains demonstrated what happened to those those who made such a poor choice and to quote she goes on to theorize that it's possible that the death was by hanging hanging Reasons for which we will describe later but like a self hanging like suicide where you know. They put up a rope or they hand The former bride Philip a rope and sort of suggest The same way roam in the night of the long knives in Nazi Germany. He was supposed to have been given such a choice here. You go do what you know you have to do kind of thing and no real word on what happened to the infant. Another one of the unreliable ancient sources says that Olympias killed the infants. Infront of and there were two in that story. I think killed the infants in front of the mother and then she either died when she saw that out of grief or whatever or killed herself after that you can see why Olympia get get such a fearsome rap historically speaking the next year and a half or so of what's going on in their lives is is going to be Alexander putting together Humpty dumpty again his father's creation which was held together in a rickety sort of sense with a bunch the people who didn't want to be involved in this Asian expedition under macaroni leadership. What were they gonNA do right? Combination Phillips energy his genius and later in life life is Gravitas and let's be honest backed by the best army around kept everybody in line and when he died all those people who would have liked to have seen him dead whether or not what. They paid the bill for the murder. Inc Tab you know took the opportunity to throw off the Macedonian yoke and the next year and a half or so as Alexander trying to put the yolk back in Humpty. Now I'm a fan of Alexander and many of these details. I'm going to leave out here. We'll be in that eventual show. Whenever the Hell I do it but let's not ignore the fact that Alexander doesn't just inherent the Great Army of its day which you know anybody could probably do pretty well with He also inherits. It's the leadership of that army. We'd said earlier that he was like Jenga's Khan and a policeman. He had the great set of marshals and generals around him they really fall into two major groups. Let's call them because other people have the old guard and the new guard the old guard. Our dads generals atlas was one of those guys. There's is a bunch of them and they're all famous and they're good and they are hard bitten and they're old by this time remember. This is not young by today's age standards. This is is a world where these ages are quite a bit older than they are today. these guys are in their fifties and sixties. Think of how much fighting already done and think about how they they came the time before. All this glitz would macaroni was ruling. This whole part of the World Alexander was born into that world right. I wonder how they felt about the twenty ruled vendor canned right especially especially before he was proven as anything of underpinned. Not just that. These guys are not like the modern generals in the military his job it is to salute salute like robots do what they're told by their superior you know we we said these are like bosses of other crime family now they may listen to the boss of bosses right now but at the situation were to turn against their interests that could change. These are barons. That's a better way to look at them. Guys like Atlas or Barons and the king has their allegiance for now. Alexander has the help of one of these really formidable guys who's probably in his sixties by this time. A guy named antipathy antipathy we're supposed to have sided with Alexander during the transition of power when things might have been kinda hairy and then all of a sudden he has one of these great barons backing him and the other great barons are away. You know there's an temperatures kind of friends of the family. He's he's loyal to fill up and he shows that loyalty by helping Phillips on and Olympia. They were supposed to be On good terms initially three the reason for bringing antipathies name into all this though is that they're not going to be on good terms for long. This is going to turn out to be probably the most negative personal relationship in Olympia says life in terms of consequences. The reason things go south between she and antipathy are often tied to Alexander leaving along with a giant chunk of the army most of the mercenaries and a lot of Greek allies when he launches his dad's mission his dad's plan for an invasion of Asia himself with his DAD's army throws a spear when he's disembarking from the boat onto the Asian side into the sand calls the entire area spear one territory territory. And we're off to be dealt with later in the inevitable Alexander show. This will continue by the way for ten to eleven seven years as Alexander continues until his army makes him stop an army who adored him and saw him as almost a god king and finally said we can't go any farther we have snakes and elephants and monsoons and we don't even remember what home looks like in her arms. Falling Office can stop now and Alexander basically called a bunch of ingrates. What do you want? Meanwhile a antipathy and his mother are both in Macedonia antipathies. The Guy who Alexander Pick to run the show. When I'm gone somebody has to hold down? The fort temperature gets the job friend of the family. If you gotTa pick one of these unreliable Macedonian barons this guy looks like the most reliable right this. This family has been the the most reliable to me the boss of bosses. I'll put you in charge antipathy. He doesn't really have. It seems like an official position for his mother. But do you think Olympia is just GonNa sit there and say nothing a lot of wise probably would but this is why she makes the history books. 'cause she she doesn't say nothing. She says a lot of stuff and antipathy. There's gotta deal with Alexander's mom probably not used to dealing with women like this at all. Who Get up in your grill and questioned some of the things you do? The funny part about it is. You can't really believe any of the letters that the Alexander Romance some of these sources have that supposedly show correspondents but you can see. There was correspondence to Alexander from both of those people complaining about each other so his mom would write letters to Alexander. When he's off in Asia saying anticipators exceedingly authorities acting like a king is in danger of becoming a monarch himself and all these complaining complaining complaining and antithesis ready to Alexander complaining about his mom and the interference and she's you know she's Exceeding Authority and getting involved in things. She shouldn't speaking of getting involved in things she probably shouldn't one of the stories about mother and son Olympias and Alexander that always makes the rounds as evidence someone points out of the Mama's boy. Edible Complex Complex version or view of Alexander has to do with worries over Alexander's Sexuality as he gets older. Now the reason this comes into play at this point in the stories stories because before this great invasion of Asia this king. WHO's been a king you know year and a half something like that almost two years? He has no wife and he has no air and his generals barrels are telling them listen to it would be released smart. You're going to be at the tip of the spear here fighting lots of battles in this big country You'd have an air and Alexander shows no real enthusiasm for this and the story. is famous of Alexander's Mother. A hiring him a the saline courtesan Thessaloniki in northern Greece. And of course of course a prostitute all in this day and age these might have been people assume status and wealth and standing to specially. If you're getting one four a prints. It's Peter Green. Writes quote both he meaning Philip Alexander's Dad. Both he and Olympia according to theophrastos. St's were worried by among other things the boys lack of heterosexual interests. They feared. He might be turning out a girlish invert and even went so far as to procure a beautiful courtesan named Calix Zenia. I believe it is to help. Develop his manly nature. Church Olympias herself. We are told frequently begged him to have intercourse with this woman which does not suggest any great enthusiasm on his part but then what what son would take kindly to a maternally selected mistress and quote.

"It's from people that are like in their thirties or in their forties people always like Oh. It all goes downhill after you reach age already and I don't see that doesn't make sense to me. I'm just like you know if you stay healthy or if she pickup healthy habits you you do all these things. You shouldn't be feeling like you're fifty years old at thirty five right right like bright but so for so for me I I I joke around about all the time but it's because for the past ten years I've been feeling like that already because my back was so jacked up but even even more so on top of that it's you know my dad or my uncles that have had terrible habits their whole lives. They've lived that life too so where it comes from is is like what I've seen and I it's all downhill like you know joking with you. Your twenty seven like Oh man. It's almost all over but we now have the knowledge in the like the ability to make sure that doesn't happen like you're feeling much better now than you did ten years ago right yeah I I told Mark like I think a year and a half ago I'm like do when I'm forty. I'll being the best shape of my life and it's only because it's just gonNa take that light. We'll even longer than that Riley on Il I'll just get better and better whereas like my dad has. He's already had open heart surgery and stuff. You know it's like I know I'm not going that way. I feel I feel really good. I feel like I can learn anything and I feel like I can try anything. I feel like I can do anything like within reason like there's some things like you know like jumping out of a helicopter or something like I just really you know I don't care to do that but but I could and I and I could learn it right and then if I went with somebody who's like dude like well. I hope you know it really ain't that you know it's not bad it's fairly safe and data shot a bunch of crazy guns this past weekend at the Olympia all that with John Bartolo and it's not my thank you know really it's not but like after doing it and being it's just about exposure so you get exposed to something and you're like Oh. That's kind of cool. That's that's it's possible I could. I could do that yeah. I think back to this kind of mindset thing I really. I really think it's a it's a bad route. You know I really do. I think it's a bad route for people to go to think like Oh man you know. It's all like to joke about a here and there it's kind of kind of what we do it. It seems like he's all excited and he gets engaged or something and we you know of course we're going to shoot them down. What are you doing? It's all downhill. We're GONNA like we're gonNA mess with them. You know but like in general. I don't think the mindset is is healthy and I don't think it's smart when you ask someone how how how you doing man like like oh I'm hanging in there. You're like what the come on man like. Are you being serious like you know I I was like at the airport and the lady behind the counters like how's it going. I'm doing great and she's like wow she's like. I haven't heard that before and like my daughter was like kind of laughing and she's like that was weird because you say that all the time that lady was so shocked yeah she's like it's normal to feel great right. I said I feel great every day and so that's kind of normal for her 'cause she sees me Kinda saying it now like I might get off the couch and be like yeah you know I might get an old guy. MOANS and groans cause a little sore and making all the noises and stuff but even those noises aren't great like are they really are they necessary sima talks a lot about you know make it faces when you're lifting and I talked to people in here all the time. Don't come in here and make a face like you're smelling farts all day when you do your first set of squats like fucking relaxed. Do you like get yourself warm. Get yourself in a better mindset like that's not a good way. That's not a good representation of of how you're going to end up having a great workout that makes you feel good to kind of make these yeah. You know. Maybe when you get a lot of weight on there maybe maybe your face changes a little bit but in general it's like you know. Let's send a message to your body like hey. This is GONNA be cool. This is is something that we want to do and it's going to be healthy for. Sometimes they're just really is a lot of farts though well yeah somebody might have crop dusted the whole place I had like eighty-five birthday parties to attend to yesterday made it to all of them very late but course always last minute birthday gift shopping it was passing through a bunch of shirts and stuff like graphics and on all like whatever and a lot of them were like a Monday or like to tire hire. Don't bother me honestly don't make these shirts like Holy Shit like what is it really that bad yeah on top of that. What do you want to emphasize it by wearing it on your your body? don't talk to me. I haven't had my first cup of coffee. Yeah that that type of on like okay like I get it now right like that's I guess we're going to keep going that way. We're not going to try to stop it right here and be like nope not wearing that shirt. That's the thing like these ideas. It's like oh it all goes downhill after thirty which so many people told me or like that's Monday in another week mulling all these types of ideas have pervaded culture so so deeply that people expect to feel that way. They expect to feel like shit on Monday. They expect that after thirty they're gonNA feel tired and whatever they expect that after they're married they're not canal like all that Kinda Shit. After you get married like I think the significant others sexy or they're not gonNA have sex anymore like any of that kind of shit and it's like an house the House working for me when they have these expectations and then all these people that believe this is true around them. It's not surprising that like you know I get emails from people like knows knows it too late for me to get started this fitness thing. I'm thirty eight Blah Blah's it. Can I not lose weight or this is a great time for my focus on your man. This is awesome. You know like guys thinking or my hormones or do not have enough testosterone or is this that because you're like thirty five or something no right. You know what I mean it it. There's no reason to think that way but so many people do that. It's almost hard to believe that it is possible. and I think you know something. I been kind of preaching lately like find something. That's repeatable. You know find something. That's it's easy enough and simple enough that it's something that you can you can manage an and do repeatedly because you have to have like like shit the hang onto you know you need. We all need like stuff to do for you. You found Jujitsu and you found lifting longtime ago and these are things that you can easily implement and they still work. You can still have you can still have your job. You know which provides income for you to to live the life that you wanna live you you have time with your girlfriend. You've you've worked all these things out and it's all things that fit into what you're doing. Your Diet fits into all the stuff right so people just you know they really need to kind kind of being search of finding stuff you know we all want to make things so difficult. but jeff shared something with me this morning and it's from Bruce Lee which I think is amazing using Bruce Lee just had so much great great wisdom but he said you know it's it's just as important to subtract as it is to ad I talk about do more be more which is fantastic but if you're going to do more and I if you're GONNA do more better subtract stuff out of your life too because we're really going to be you know arguably continue to add to our plate and add to our plate now. We don't have time for other shit right so after a while it won't make any sense because you'll be driving in yourself crazy with two more all the red light. I gotTa do that and I I gotta go ten minute walk and I need you know and it'd be like really weighing your food right right and you're just really losing your mind at some point. So you gotta be a little cautious with it and you gotta you know. Get certain things at your life. Yeah Mike you know when I started doing Jujitsu. It took a little bit of for me to be like okay. Do I have to actually lift less if I'm going to be able to do this. Well you know took lots of get that in my head that I may have to do a few less stays in the gym. If I want to get better at this I think you initially you didn't and then you had to ask to house feeling tired. Yeah just it didn't work yeah and now you're at a place where where you feel like I mean I saw a dead lift and six twenty five for some reps the other day right yeah they've got a place where you can still come in have a great intense workout and I'm sure when you're going went over to Jujitsu that your workouts are intense and they're the way that you want them to feel. Oh yeah no yeah yesterday came in did that work out that I wanted you to. Afterwards News all rolling Rowling's we had like fourteen rolls yesterday and stay on beat me like I feel beat right now but yeah just just like it's all that little adjustment and even even like fasting that helps a lot in terms of taken away stress of having a cook all day so you know taking out certain things can help a lot going through edged today no no. There's an open matte tonight but I I don't know if I'M GONNA go. I don't think so right so I mean because you have this mindset though where you're fairly open been and you're conscious of like I I wanna be better if if somebody you know let's let's say there was a great raped Jujitsu practitioner who's like in the area and they have a clinic and someone's like dude. It's not like it's not a normal seminar like it's a full on like clinically your work. Thank you also but you just found out about it. When you're leaving here and you've got the opportunity to go? You would just go yeah. I was beat not anymore. Yeah like I feel fine now like you'll snap out of it right because you have the mindset towards that seems like it's in my best interest to go and do that regardless of the same thing with coming into the gym. You Know Louis We Simmons always said like I just wonder. I wonder wonder what happened. If I just told everybody were squatting today and it was on a bench day I said Lou everyone would just squat you know because that's the mindset of the people that are in here that I wanNA do. They WanNa do what they feel is in their best interest Chris and they feel it's in their best interest to follow your program. Follow what you're saying so if you told them if Cassius hey this is what we're doing. We're running three miles or five miles. You'd I'll be like okay like there would be a little snicker right and they would last for about three minutes. Maybe a couple of guys would grumbler buller whatever but he'd be like no man. We need to be in better shape. We're all like running. You'd be like okay just not showing up on Tuesday when we run. You know I'm curious. It's about this because I've been hearing like.

"You've been in bodybuilding for a long long time and you've been kicking ass for a long time and you've been putting up points on the scoreboard at the Olympia for for a long time but now you finally landed a championship and what's that like man after all these years to finally win the Olympia so you know it's it's it's it's Kinda started started off. You know you kinda dream to to accomplish such thing and it's just it's just an woman common experience when it actually able to accomplish one of your biggest goals of your career man. It's just definitely overwhelming. I don't really know I'm kind of between consciousness right now. reality and this dream state right now Jay Cutler said it may take Lisa Weekday hit me or so before I actually I'm able to take it all in your alley of it all in so. What do you think the biggest difference is like why why this year? I think maybe maybe the best you places like a top five before or you've been in the top six seven eight how how were you able to come out on top this year. Well you know it was Kinda. Just like the top five last year I had automatic qualification so we me and my coaches started think about as far as what what was go for the two thousand eighteen season so we've kind of mapped it out we come in and Windy Arnold and we'll set the stage for the Olympia Kinda Kinda create behind the motivation today show to to be a call one of the front runners and I knew in my heart that could beat John So you know I kinda once solidified that opportunity at the Arnold and was able to get the win I knew coming into the Olympia it'd be advocate but a win and quite honestly you know Sean of course looking in this event this year because of the situation but you know quite honestly you know I'll just came in and you might be with nothing but confidence when it came to being able to take this title. was there anything specific with like diet or anything specific with a type of Cardio Training that Oh you were doing that was different than in the past well I think right now being thirty six years old my body's Kinda in his prom and we just take advantage manage that is my body from the purpose much different from the Olympia prep so it was it was much much much different preparation even from those two contests not that far apart maturity process allowed me to put it more work do more cardio eat less calories calories less carbohydrates and still maintain a good standard of muscle mass to to come in the way we need it so that that process and the way the body was performing allow me to come into the cell even more approved in the Arnold so I was able to take the win because I think the judges noticed that over over most of other aspects of improving who's actually getting better and showed a show no brandon you've been competing for like sixteen years now and when a lot of athletes look at that wonder like how are you able to I guess just maintain the fire from when you started what allows you to do that you in life. You have to purposing things to really really have the motivation to go after him. no matter what the circumstances is our and now I go six when I saw running titles what I thought was impossible Dustin Cutler and got beat it in from that point on it's like tossed a purpose spark in pin me as far as what I wanted to accomplish some body when are taking it seriously and once that impossible possible thing happened my mind I was thinking okay now. I'm going after this and despite despite any losses anything that happened happened I was able to I was able to stay focused on my missions no matter what and continue to push strive back to be the best I could beat him out of what my circumstances because I felt like I had purpose in the sport. I felt like I could get to this mountaintop. No matter what what's happening just as long as I put in the work as consistent as possible out eventually found the right formula what now what right now are things I back in normal life enjoying the family right touring of course being in a vast worton Orton Libya and then got title for next year so I beg to the roots get reprogrammed adjusted to being a dad and not a lot of people we know this but you've been a big supporter of my brand for many many years and you're a big supporter in the very beginning and I I can't tell you how much I appreciate it and then how proud I am of you the C. You pull out this victory is really cool and super motivating and inspiring to us over here at Super Training Gym opposition Supporters Always Nanan in and out doing big things in a definite great motivator my life and see if he's doing an accomplishment in the industry and you guys keep it up man. I wish you got a take a good luckier seminar today. Thank you so much for your time. Champ take care all right. Thank you how cool well that didn't suck that didn't suck at all and I was live and everything to that was crazy you gotta we just got on the phone with the Chan- that's that's so wait when did Blake. When was he doing stuff with the US? I don't know man that Guy's been on my dick for a long time. I'm like Yo Brandon. Just relax man now you know I knew I knew him through. BSN through my good friend Eric Heart who now does stuff with read Khan and does stuff with Brian Shaw and Brandon was so like Nice right off the bat you know he was he was just like hey yeah I'll I'll I'll try some of the products out and then he was trying out the slingshot when a lot of other bodybuilders at the time were very resistant to it. He was like Shit. I'll try it out. He's like my shoulders. Shoulders are trashed so he tried it out and he was like yeah I use it on a hammer strike machine and I use it on this and he used on a bunch of stuff that I never even intended to for or to be used on. He's like it works great man he's like aware at all time and he's wearing like the wrist wraps and all different kinds of stuff and then we just lost touch over the last last few years never reached out to him. He hasn't reached out to me in a while and I've been kind of following along and seeing you know where he's been what he's been up to and seeing him make some progress but to see him win the Olympia. I'll be totally honest came out of left field for me because first of all I thought he was a little bit older because he's been in the sport for so long. I think you mentioned like Seventeen Years Sixteen sixteen years and so you know oh five to eight years ago when I was getting to know him I probably figured maybe he was more on the downside of his career but the last two three years have been really really good for him and this year at the Olympia showed up like bigger than ever what's not about. It's it's crazy. I don't get like especially like him and then when you look at other guys I think the the oldest guy that's competing as Dexter Jackson. They just continue to to get better. I think there's something about the way you said forty nine forty nine what you know so he might come on X. Because Jackson let up on US fifth fourth or fifth. You know that's just absolutely crazy so I do wonder about this win though because a lot of the Internet's talking doc and they're like oh he did it beat Ville or something you know that type of stuff so I wonder like if he's thinking about that at all or if that weighs on his mind but hey he came in and he killed it so he's got a feel good about it. It's gotTa give them confidence for next year as well you know because those other guys probably will be there. Oh Yeah and then also like let's say fill is there. Let's say Brent Rodent was there people are still gonNA complain about something. Though he wasn't as good as last year he would've John last year like suck so it doesn't matter or the the sports changed you know and it's like they. They got an excuse for everything. They want. The guys who'd be smaller in our they never want it wasn't this way they're gonna always have an excuse this to throw in there and the exciting thing is that it kind of sounds like the tidal title is a little bit more up for grabs than it was years ago when you saw Ronnie Coleman take his crown and and really hold onto it and then Jay Cutler got four championships as well and a lot of people are going back and forth you had a long era with a kind of Arnel or Lee Haney going back Lee Haney and then arnold and then joining Yates one at several times as well and it's like you had people kinda holding the title and they couldn't be beaten and now it seems like I guess the last Three Olympia there's been three different champions that right Brandon Sean by the I think the year before was Phil Right yeah so that yeah yeah three different ones over the last three years and obviously Phil had it for many years before that what he won six I think yeah so it was interesting because I think it might have been Jay Cutler when he had mentioned on the podcast here that there was like thirteen champions he's like you know he's like I. I might not see another thirteen by time. My time is up and it's like who actually we might see like you know. The next thirteen might be different. You know who knows true. It makes it I my opinion makes way more exciting. Even though watching some fill is totally dominate like that's cool to you but like I mean why does everybody hate the Patriots owner. Oh you know what I mean. How exciting is it when like Oh shit who is going to win this? Everybody hates the Patriots because they cheat they deflate the ball. I mean come on. They cheat they win and then nobody cares. No I know I just I hate the Patriots because I'm a jets fan but I love the Patriots honestly I I love watching watching greatness of any kind you know I had an opportunity to This is like totally unrelated but I had opportunity. Jerry Seinfeld Feld years ago I have I've had opportunity to see Joe Rogan like when you get to see a professional you know when I was a kid..

"You're going to have to try to add entertainment value to anything that you have whether it's bodybuilding powerlifting how the hell out you're going to get people to watch it nowadays i think social media has helped in some ways you have like men's physique and think they got rid of women's bodybuilding right yeah that's gone and they have some other avenues for the chicks to get involved in but when you first started they didn't have a lot of that stuff and have any of right now it's strictly mentioned women's body but you know touch on the social media thing and that's why the social media people without accolades of titles or achievements lake they have more followers because they do shit that's exciting i mean a bodybuilder what's a bodybuilder do besides each brass and go to the gym and pump up chest there's no real like personalities and i was victim of that too i mean i didn't like cameras on my face i was very serious but what i did i had to learn to come out of my shell some and now in social media have to be more of a normal person but i'm allowed to do that because not i'm not driven towards that one goal i mean i thrive in business but some of the stuff is not brazil too you know what's fascinating though is somebody that has the drive and determination to be a fourtime mr olympia so it's not like you have to jump over a car or anything like that you know what i mean it's it's still intriguing enough and that's why so many people want to have you do seminars and have you at these speaking engagements all the time yeah i think they look at the mindset i mean i think that's really what what drives you to be able to do what you do at the highest level i mean intrigues people because how many people can say they are the best in the world that what they did is still like when i say it to you i don't look at myself like that like i don't look like hey i see ccomplish like being the best buy where four times like i have to constantly reminded of it because i'm still in mindset like i'm the kid in massachusetts with a dream and wanting to move.

"And closer to winning the best title in the world and why i figured why stop now if i can become the best in the world and it's like okay i reached a pinnacle in not at many guys ray but say that so why waste the ride that i've been having and i'm going to go all the way to the top and that's that's kinda how i it kinda was by circumstance to be honest because if you go back to my first dvd which early on was my social media outlets i released dvd's every year training videos i actually said in a cut above which you can find on youtube i said you know on never played on being mr olympia it wasn't my it wasn't an ultimate goal and until i stood next to ronnie coleman in two thousand one in a very controversial second is when i first realized that holy shit i can win this thing and that's when when i really pursued the mr limpia title and you know the rest from there i mean the fucking mindset of like getting every day and pushing yourself till i felt like i was gonna have a heart attack and i mean there was times where i almost passed out training because i couldn't breathe and in vegas the heat i remember doing balking lunges outside training for olympia in august and i'm lunging with you know twenty five on my back in the parking lot in it's one hundred twenty degrees on the on the pavement and i remember just like okay no one else is doing this so i'm gonna do it in that's was my mindset i mean you can read the stories i used to train in the middle of the night because no one else was doing it i've heard mike tyson talk about that with his roadwork he'd wake up like three thirty go run and and you know that was my that was how i like mind fucked everybody else you know i would make sure that i posted up something you know hey i'm training at this time so people like man is that the secret is jay has to do is that what we have to do and i did it almost kind of like play mind games for the other guys and say hey you're not doing the work that i'm doing and it made me feel it helped my goto.
