Truly amazing that you knew these men. Well we have to go back to the beginnings you know the record business and the business that i was in was primarily run by the boys the boys mafia whatever and that was cool. There are great work for we knew what a position was but they ran everything they own the clubs the only record companies etcetera so when i started beginning success for young I realized who was working for. I realized you know how i was to be myself and i started working to copacabana. Which was the testing ground in new york city. I was successful. And i got the word that now that new york went very well. We're sending out to vegas to the boys and you're gonna work in vegas. So what year are we talking about. Big apartment what year we talking about. Fifty eight nine hundred fifty. Started sophie tucker. Which was i guess. My audition did well with her. "Them heroes to half the country. I say this does somebody who benefited, however, inadvertently from it. McKay Coppins is a staff writer at the Atlantic. How did he benefit? Well, when I would, you know, Write a story that was skeptical of Donald Trump. I would get, you know invited to go on the Daily show. I would Get offered speaking engagements. My stories would you know be retweeted and travel all over the world. You basically had this huge, global cheering section. You have this great line in your piece that once obscure correspondents were recast in the popular imagination as resistance heroes. Yeah. I mean, that was, I think the strangest part of it right? Honestly, Journalists tend to do their best work when they're not seen as heroic figures when they're actually kind of Obnoxious, little too nosy and a little bit on the fringe of whatever world they're covering, and they're not glammed up. Instead, they're kind of just these rumpled observers of American life. I think that's kind of the sweet spot for journalism. And so it was kind of uncomfortable when in the imagination of one half of the country. It was almost like we had capes on right like that, I don't think is actually where the best journalism is produced. And I think the best reporters and journalists of this era did all they could to resist that. You quote New York magazine's Olivia Newton see saying that She could write in a piece quote Donald Trump is the biggest Hold to ever live, and he is a terrible human being and a bleep e president and like he's ugly, no one would be mad at me except the same people who are mad at me anyway for existing Right. That's the other thing that was happening here, Which is that in the Trump era, a lot of the conservatives who had spent time in the past criticizing the mainstream media for being biased and who had a certain amount of poll among frankly editors at Washington publications. Lot of leaders of newsrooms really cared about conservatives complaining of bias. That changed in the trump era in part because ah lot of those conservative critics went so fully off the deep end, frankly, where it was no longer a debate about whether something was biased or a story should have been framed a different way. Instead, it became Just dismissing every inconvenience story as fake news, inventing facts wholesale. What happened was that a lot of reporters and editors got desensitized. To these criticisms and kind of stopped paying attention. You know what I think Olivia was describing there is that when you have conservatives were going to be mad at you, no matter what you write every day. You end up kind of tuning out Well, they're saying and you pay more attention to the rest of the country, which exist somewhere from the center to the left. There is a kind of direct language where you're actually not just trying to convey clearly what's happening. You're trying to kind of preach to the choir, but it's only your audience. It's not the whole country and I think that Making our audience is uncomfortable is often our job, right? We have to reflect how they're feeling and what they're thinking but also present them with information and stories that will challenge how they think. That's something that we have not always done well, and I hope we can figure out how to do it. What lessons will stay with you? Now that Trump's gone I'm going to be better about not letting the political figures I write about set the terms of my coverage right. One of the things about the past five years is that Donald Trump wanted a culture war with the media, and too many of us in the media gave him one. We kind of centered ourselves in this story. In a way that a lot of readers and people out there in the public found insufferable. And I think, rightly, so, Look, it's hard because all the audience incentives again and all the Book deals and the cable news contracts and the Twitter followers flow to reporters who are at the center of political drama. But we've hopefully realized I know I have That placing myself at the center of every story is not actually usually a service to the reader, and I hope that will all be a little bit more self aware as we move forward. You think Trump was good for the journalism, business or bad? Well from a bottom line perspective, almost certainly good, at least Washington journalism, not local journalists, and in the short term, right, I think it's yet to be seen. What kind of damage He's done long term, both to the incentive structure for journalists and also to the credibility we have with the public. You know, there was already a credibility problem. Donald Trump was not the originator of it. But I think it's safe to say that four years after he was sworn in, it'll be much harder to reach vast watts of the country than it was before he became president. Are you worried about journalism's bottom line is you say in the short term, some legacy news outlets have benefited But in the long term, will people lapse into a general complacency, forgetting what brought them out into the streets? And that complacency will spill over into even more harm to journalism's ability to inform and to hold power accountable. Yeah, I think we're gonna have to expect that to happen. How do we move forward when you don't have a president who's shattering norms and breaking precedent and doing outlandish things every day when the story's arm or wonky and policy oriented and not so soap operatic as the trump years have been Not every story that comes out of Washington is going to be as exciting to put it crassly as the last four years have been, and it's really important. That we not have our business models depend on that being the case, because if they are all of us are going to be pushed to insert artificial drama into every story we do, and that's not.

"A status report on the condition of forty fifth. Andy Gabe had his own career. He did. John who are the BG's the berry? Good MAURICE, Robin. There was a MAURICE skip. But yes. Yeah. There was a MAURICE. I didn't know that. So he can play with bare berry was the lead singer of the three and the best looking guy. He was good looking. Well, yeah. Yeah. But in the BG's your say. Yep. Eighty had his own career died really young was thirty. Something was Andy with Newton, John right? Or is that one of the? Wouldn't that? Andy gibbon, Olivia Newton John. Did they have a deal? He had to do it with somebody big like duet. They had to do at. He hit a duet. That was somebody big too. I I'm pretty why do I think it was a living. Newton newton. John was married to the guy that ran away. And we're having a knew John on next week. We'll ask they had a song called. I can't help it. But didn't Andy gibbon Olivia? Newton. John actually have a do. He seemed like he was fooling around with some older women like that. One thousand nine hundred album after dark. Yeah. Maybe do a little research on it. So it would have been his birthday. He died. Very young. He would have been sixty one today. Wow. I four own nine and welcome to the show. He's married to Kim reader. She big. Two years. There are married never asked that about a woman. I never. Kathy. Yeah, famous. No, Andy and berry look alike. Yeah. The those two don't look like anybody. Well, the. Sorta do. Welcome to the show a much warmer today. Even though it's only forty two teams like a heatwave dragon has his spring shorts on today. And we're going to wind up to a more normal temperatures by the end of the week. We're going to get up to the low fifties which is about normal for this time of year. I'm ready. So yeah, we got a good trend happen and ready for that. In the good things going on here. Lots to talk about on the show. We're going to have Sebastian Maniscalco on later. He is the hottest comedian in the world right now just sold out four shows at Madison Square Garden is come to the paramount here in Denver where they have four shows for him three already sold out. They just added another one and you'll love him. He'll be on with us later. He's in the green book movie. He's also got a movie coming out called the Irishman with Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci in L Pacino. I mean, he the guy is red hot. And so we'll have him on later. Martin Scorsese is the director Martin Scorsese film. Are you talking about Victoria, principal? You know what? Yes. Somebody called in and gibbon, Victoria, principal. Yeah. So data the actress from Dallas you may have been back. Now, this is years ago in my humble opinion, Victoria, principal may have been the best looking woman on MTV or Hollywood or anywhere else. At least from my perspective. She was right there. No doubt. What was the show? She was in Dallas. Yeah. She definitely was. We'll talk about leaving Neverland to the HBO show. Got me to watch that last night. Yeah. And and you couldn't stop right. You texted me say, hey, by the way, it's on now. So not only did I immediately flip over then after that was done. They ran they ran it again. And I watched the first half. Okay. I'm up. It's like twelve thirty. I'm sitting here watching eight the series, the whole four hours of it. You can't stop watching. I talked to a bunch of people who watched it. We talked about it today. Yeah. Disturbing. Disappointing. If you're a Michael Jackson fan for sure. But yeah, you can't stop wasn't a Michael Jackson fan in the day. You know, that you would hear those stories you didn't know if they were true. But after watching that a lot of people told me, they believed them. Yeah. Those two guys seemed very beliefs. So we'll talk about that on the show as well. Josh rosen. Cardinals quarterback reportedly being shopped I wanna ask Dave about him that the guy you'd be interested in day for third round pick maybe second round pick. We'll talk about that coming up to hold the Broncos for the Broncos. I was thinking about that. Yeah. I was I was as well. This is a guy that was taken tenth over. No, not tenth. Yeah. That was tenth tenth overall in the first round last year. And there's some talk that maybe you could get them for third round pick. Maybe maybe you'd have to go second. But I think you'd really have to take a look at him. You know, they're I mean, listen. It depends on. Where you see this offense going for the Broncos, not the NFL? But for the Broncos in the next five years, right? You've got flacco this year. I mean, assuming he stays healthy. If you feel like that you still want a pocket passer in a prototypical pocket passer. The Josh Rosen. I think has a lot of upside. He really does. He's not gonna be able to move around a lot that. That's just not what he does. I I probably would not make the deal. I don't think I would give up. Because I frankly, I think they'll be teams they'll probably will give up more than a third round draft choice. If I'm the Broncos getting what they need now on both sides of the ball. I would not make that did not not after I made the flacco deal. You mean not more than a third or you consider a third. I would not do it. I would not I would not bring him in what a mess. The cardinals. Are they bring in a head coach who had never coached in the league before firearm after one year they draft a quarterback first round tenth overall looks like they're going to get rid of him in one year. And they hire a coach who's never been a head coach in the NFL. And they kept the GM that has sort of been there and have has has sort of seen this thing through Steve might be the next guy to get fired out of the desert. What a mess, and then Charley Casserly today. Set some things about Cuyler Murray that that he'd heard at the combine not very flattering at all. We'll share those with you coming up four fifteen. However, what bothers me just a little bit about this whole story is remember when Aretha Franklin had been allegedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And I love Aretha. I mean, she just she has had so much SAS and really knew how to deal with the media, and she stopped that story straight say not true. You know, I'm fine. Basically. She stopped. She she put an end to any rumors of her having pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, she did have it. And she died. And so I get a little nervous when rumors are out there. And hearing people say not true. And then later they end up being true.

"Now obliged to work without pay and recent opinion poll here suggested that more people actually blame President Trump for what's happened at the moment, then blame the Democrats forty-two percent and putting the blame on the president and the White House twenty two percent on the Democrats and President Trump, of course, insisting that any budget agreement also include five billion dollars to fund his signature policy issue. A wall along the us Mexico border, the Democrats wanting nothing to do with that. Of course, some even contending that such a project would be abhorrent. That's the longer this drags on. And when they're in day thirteen now, the more it will start to hurt you mentioned there. Eight hundred thousand federal workers affected some have been sent home others working. Without pay museums here in Washington DC and now closed and conditions in some of the national parks are deteriorating as well as rubbish piles up. That's dimension. Nothing about those who have to struggle on without the pay that they've been hoping to get over the Christmas period. And the big question that those people who aren't getting paid. And also a lot of other Americans are going to want to have answered is is that going to be a possible resolution and how much longer is this going to drag on for? Well, it's interesting isn't it because the boss, we wouldn't really have paid much heed to what the Democrats think about all this a few weeks ago, they take control of the house of representatives. Tomorrow's Thursday following their victories in the midterm elections. Last year, of course, and they plan to bring their own budget proposals which provide funding for virtually all the government departments that are currently it until the end of the financial year, but provide only very small amount. For border security, not the anything like the five billion. Plus that President Trump wants to see now the White House has branded such a move a non starter. So it does look as though we could be entering a a pretty long and potentially damaging standoff here. That's David Willis in Washington. The economic crisis in Zimbabwe has been escalating for some time. But from Friday, the country's largest drinks company. Delta will only accept payment for its goods in hard currency. It's a move. That's been condemned by the government in Harari. This report now from grant ferret in a letter to customers delta said it to being forced to act by shortage of foreign currency needed to pay its overseas suppliers. The problem is one facing many companies in Zimbabwe who have to pay suppliers in hard currency that charge for their products in local bonds notes, the value of which has fallen dramatically the industry and commerce minister Mangaliso glue says charging in US dollars is unfair and unacceptable. He said he hoped to meet delta executives to discuss the new pricing policy, which he said could not be allowed the replacement of the veteran President Robert Mugabe by his army PF colleague, Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to revive the. "Mornings from six to ten on KFI. Tim Conway fail. Locally KFI AM six forty more stimulating talk earlier in the week. I believe if it wasn't New Year's Eve bender were you with me, the night, talk Wells Fargo. Yeah. Last week. I don't think last week. I don't think it was this week. I think it was last week. The all the days are running together. Yes. But I mentioned that I went on a rant about how is it that Wells Fargo is still in business, given all not only the financial bow fees and just the the bad business practices that they have been engaging in for the better part of three or four years that we know about from the fake accounts to the the algorithm glitch for the foreclosures people lost their houses all sorts of fines. And then I hear you Erin bender up during the last news break, say another five million dollar fine. This is for opening insurance policies for customers and charging them without their consent. And this is a five billion dollar settlement to California, and they've got to pay another five mill if they ever want to sell insurance in California again because they were giving up their insurance licenses for two years what I did discuss with Monica Rix New Year's day is they have the other story. Where murder charges may be brought against PG. And I wanted to make the comparison maybe it was a wrong comparison. But I said on one hand you have this company PG and E, and there may be criminal charges levied against the company. I don't know how that plays out. I don't know if it comes out against a specific individual. I know there's there's a liability, but I don't know about criminal charges when he talked about murder or involuntary homicide and the state attorney general is going after PG and E for that. But we don't have the same type of outrage or. Questions of criminality. When it comes to Wells Fargo given their pattern of behavior over a a a wide swath of issues. I mean, how many people have been negatively affected by Wells Fargo, either through the fake accounts either to the insurance or the foreclosures who've lost their houses. And each time. Wells Fargo has been able to get away with my phrase get away with just pay a fine. After a while. Isn't there something stiffer than a fine that you can do isn't there something that you can do to help to hold the people who are running Wells Fargo accountable. And then I also made the comparison going back to the financial crisis of two thousand eight. All that illegal behavior. And yes, I'm gonna call it illegal behavior, and nobody went to jail. So I have to ask the question. Now, why are we so concerned with people from PG possibly going to jail? I get people died. I'm not saying that that's not more important. But at the same time people losing houses is pretty damn important to people having to deal with fake accounts being made in their name. That's pretty important people who are being subject to these these dubious insurance policies the paying five million and may not be able to sell insurance again in the state. That's pretty serious that is a a degree of criminality. That is consistent. I would say you can't pay all these fines and say, oh, we're so sorry. You'll never happen again. Oh, we're so sorry. You'll never happen. Again, say one more time with me. Oh, we're so sorry. It'll never happen. Again. We didn't mean to always make mistakes which financial. Was detrimental to you. And always favored us have you noticed whatever they get. There's a mistake with the fees. It's always because the overcharged or they charge too. Many people the error always works in the favor of the Bank. We've never heard the story like, you know, what we happen to under charge. Everyone. We forgot to take the monthly fee out of your checking account this month that never happens. They didn't accidentally opened a fake account and also deposit fifty dollars in it for you know, they opened a fake account and also charge you for having it. Six ninety five a month, and that has nothing to do with the overdraft fees. The got slapped on the hand for and this is something I had to deal with when I was younger in my twenties. You always have a balanced in and around zero hovering because that's what young people do. They don't necessarily manage their money. Well, or you forgot about a certain. Purchase you made via debit card or you forgot that there was a certain check those gonna hit your account or you hoped. It would hit on a Monday. You wrote a check on Fridays like, please don't hit. Please don't hit. Please don't hit. And for whatever reason, they they drew upon it that Friday, and you have overdraft fees through the weekend. And you try to handle it on Monday to you realize. And there was one time I was two hundred dollars in the hole. Just recruiting because Wells Fargo what they would do each day you had a balance under zero. They would charge you another fee of like thirty five dollars in a kept adding up. I don't know if they can still do that. But they did do that back in the day. And you would think well, I already have zero dollars you adding to the Bill is not gonna help if anything I just closed the account. So you can't charge me anymore. But Wells Fargo has been Dettori's for doing this for decades. At what point can we say that Wells Fargo needs to be out of business before? At least Sears Sears. Didn't do this. Daddy won. The Wells Fargo gets to hang around. This is the Tim Conway show Kellyanne for Tim when we come back. We're going to pay homage to the one and only mean Jean Oakland. That's coming up next vendor. Santa Ana says there are fewer unlicensed pot shops in the city a year after brek racial use was legalized city councilman Jose solorio says when marijuana was legalized for medical use many shops sold a pot. However, they wanted it was a wild wild west and some parts of status still is. So we had literally over a hundred illegal store selling cannabis. Computer, please take your time. No, no, oh, they're wildlife. We'll have more space to roam around in LA county officials with the state's mountains recreation and conservation. Authorities say someone donated more than two hundred acres in north L A county near a lake the laid will serve as habitat linkage for animals to move underneath the five between the Los Padres and Angeles national forest officials say that freeway has been a thirty mile barrier and dangerous on for animal trying to cross it for a long time. The land owner bought the property more than twenty years ago developed plans for a business park and motocross tracks. But biologists told him he needed to conserve some space for wildlife. The state now plans to name that land after him. Monica Rix, KFI news, California has issued its first report on how rising prescription drug costs impact healthcare premiums nine top health insurance submitted the data as part of a new law state insurance Commissioner Dave Jones says more than one point two billion dollars was spent on prescription drugs in twenty seventeen especially drugs are only three percent of overall. Prescriptions, but they make up fifty two percent of spending. Meanwhile, generic drugs made up eighty four percent of prescriptions, but just twenty one percent of spending. It's important for policymakers to take additional steps to address the rising cost of drugs. He says the cost of prescription drugs after rebates is over thirteen percent of healthcare premiums corporate Carson, KFI news. President Trump insists the country needs a wall along the border with Mexico need a physical barrier. Everything else has bells and whistles, I know more about drones than anybody. I know about every form of safety that you could have and it's all good. But it's just very minor. Compared to the power of a wall. Trump says he'll keep the federal government partially closed for as long as it takes to get the five billion dollars. He wants for the wall. Now, they use their whole hands. Kuchen spreading those kind of rumors on my word. So it's going to get the wrong idea this kid skin pieces. Yeah. So you've been in this new role. Four months Thurmond some like that. Right. And when you were campaigning. What did you feel were the top issues that you should be focusing on as an alderman other topics you bar? None was conference center. It is still an issue. We're going to get to what is what what you're excited about our passionate about so the conference center or central and you felt what during the campaign, you express it? Well. Conversation always felt was an integral part of Manchester and should be here and should should be used and stay open. A lot of people wanted to close it. But I thought they were. Wasting a lot of money. I thought they spent way too much money. Now their budget their budget and spending has been in the forefront really talked about for awhile for a longtime. Yeah. So did you say, you changed your mind? Well, I see things a little differently. It's a lot different from the inside looking out than it is from the outside looking in. Wow. But I've learned that there are just things about issues. It I wasn't aware of until you're there on the inside talking about him. I've learned a lot. So how has your view changed on the conferencing? Well. I understand that the conference centers never gonna making money. It's not it's not a place to buy. It was near burst. Our bubble. Well, I mean, I know the conference center needs to operate a little closer to the bone than it is now, I know I know that we budget half million dollars or four hundred thousand or something like that every year for for the conference center, that's split county and city. I think he can still do a little better. I'm not satisfied with where it's at it. Even though it has been doing better, and I will say to everybody out there that Rebecca franchise doing a wonderful job run conference center. She has Ma vote of confidence. So she's working she's working hard. And she's doing a good job. Well, we don't need to quit you. We still need to do better. So you still feel that the conference center should be open. Sure. That changed its sometimes government does for the citizens that you don't make money off of. I mean, we've got to rec center we've got to conference there. We hit. I please refers fire. We take care of streets, the lighting and stuff like that. Can you really compare the conference center to the police department? It's really compare the conference center to the rec center or I can compare it to the rec center. I think it's integral part of Manchester. And I think we we profit we don't profit. But I think it means so much to the city. We would miss it. If it weren't here. I just wanted to be a little bit. Last a little bit more profitable. I want. I want us to operate a little closer to Bono. Now. I actually as your interview, I have I have a pretty strong opinion, but rec center and bless their hearts. They used to be everybody's kicking. They did. Yeah. And and now apparently it's the conference center, and I'm not saying there should be any kickin dog. I'm just saying the rec center, I have my background, and my degree is in health and wellness and exercise promotion, and and wellness promotion and exercise science and nutrition. And and I will tell you from my opinion that as a municipality if you don't invest in your youth and give them something to do. And yes, it's not going to make money you'll the money that you think you're saving not spending on activities for you to do. You will spend in a new jail down the road. I agree with you hundred anything we can spend lock that is good. Money. But, but I'll tell you from from the standpoint of looking to recruit, new businesses and new jobs people come in. And they look at things like the rec center, and I'll interject again, I would not have moved here had the had the rec center. Not now are I was an exercise girl, and I was working in Murfreesboro and my husband wanted us to move here. And by this radio station, and I'm like what in the world is man, and I came around on highway fifty three in my head snapped up to the side. And I said what in the world is that look at those waterslide. Oh my gosh. There's a pool let's go in there. And honestly, Mark one hundred percent. If a mind, I'm dying. I would not have moved here had that rec center not been here. Well, you take industry and conference center is kind of lock you in a rec center. It's an asset to us. You're looking at. That we don't need a place to hold events, and I'm not dissing their accent. That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying my argument was I don't think you can compare the rec center and the conference well in services for for the community. I just don't think can't. I'm not saying you turn them loose and just give them a blank check. You can't do that with anybody know department. So we'll never make it. But all in all. Listen. Ideally, ideally, if the rec center could cover everything, but there. Their basic operating experience. And then that'd be great. You're looking at are. We starting at the rec center we talking about. We're throwing them both around. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So one of those those words tripped me up there. Francis. But I'm talking about. So how has your opinion changed though from wins? You said it's different. From from looking from the outside in all about getting rid of the management of. Conference. Here we go again. Talking about the conference there. Yeah. I I mean, I was on a conference in Iran. Yeah. Campaign. And you said that's the problem. It's management. You're saying I'm sorry into management is doing a pretty darn good job cutting back all they can do. And and they're going to continue to do. So I don't think they're quitting. I don't think they're at a point where they're going to say. Well, that's pretty good. We're gonna stop here. I think the management's don't continue to work to do a better job at the conference air as time goes on now confidence never gonna be profitable. It's just not. I don't I don't mind not well. Well. Apparently, it's just gonna cost too much to run the doggone thing. I mean, I guess fixed costs you got you've got the labor, and you can't charge enough to cover all those costs. How do other conference? I don't know that there's a conference center this prophet. I don't know that there's a conference here anywhere that is. We'll talk about that another time. Okay. We need to head to a break. But when you come back to have you stay Mark Mesic is our Manchester City element. One of the Manchester City alderman led to heavy state be be automatic.
