"Mothering Sunday starring Odessa young Olivia Colman and Colin Firth this morning wants you to post film critic and Hornaday with her tech I fell victim to the ban of the book syndrome and thinking why did they have to go and make one of my favorite books into a movie I mean Graham swift if people are familiar with his prose The art of his books is the actual writing The pros It's not necessarily just the plot and the characters So I don't think that this is necessarily a movie that we needed But it is very very tastefully done And I might add that Josh O'Connor plays the young man in question He's got tons of charisma and he and Odessa young have a really good on screen chemistry It's beautifully shot by the director Eva hosan And I think she does her best to bring dynamism in her own kind of interpretive energy to the piece but ultimately I'm not sure it's the most necessary movie of the year But if you're in the mood for some attractive escapism go for it And in our post Oscar spraying it feels like this is a good time for Hollywood satire right Come on And that's where the new film the bubble comes in Is it worthy of applause or some good old fashioned heckling Somewhere in between for me because I was so ready to laugh when I saw this movie And this is of course by Judd Apatow who can make us laugh But he also he does tend to fall prey to over long this This is actually relatively short for him It's two hours But you keep watching it thinking oh you could have cut that You could have cut that I mean I feel like if this had been just given one or two more passes through the editing machine just to get it down to a little bit tighter running time it really could have worked But as it is it's pretty self indulgent It's about a group of actors right as the pandemic hits They're making kind of a Jurassic Z movie version of Jurassic Park while bubbling in England hence the title of the bubble I mean some wonderful players here we've got Leslie Mann and Karen Gillan and Pedro Pascal and David Duchovny and Fred Armisen and miss iris apatow who makes a really impressive screen appearance here but it's hidden miss Scattershot a whole new meaning But like you I'm in the mood.

"I found insane. I will take that one. Italian clown dolphin. Wow. I mean, Lady Gaga as an actor tends to kind of serve slightly over the top. Imagine if it makes her look like stayed Jessica's making her look like Helen Mirren. Or like a restrained, you know, Olivia Colman in the lost daughter. Yes. Is what Olivia is what Lady Gaga looks like compared to Francis mcdormand type. Yeah. Oh man, okay, while Josh actually worked on the campaign for that movie. And I've heard such mixed reviews about it. I've got to watch it now. I've got to gird my loins for this Italian clown. It's like it's a fun time. It's just not like an amazing. I didn't think it was an amazing movie. But Jared Leto's performance is so out of left field to me. I found it wildly distracting. And I just don't know why he was allowed to do it. I think he should be trying. I think he should have to stand trial. Look, the Italian justice system has tried people for less. Yeah. You know what? Yes, a 100%. All right, well, on that note, that's all the time we have for this week's episode of hysteria, Alyssa thank you for being my writer died. Dana, thank you so much for being here. Congratulations on your book..

"Life is now that she is a mom but is still also this kind of ravishing young woman and it's a very unusual movie that does not attempt to simplify any of its psychology or any of its emotionality. It is deeply complex and I'm still kind of like untangling it. I only watch it one time. I want to watch it again and see if it had the same power on me. I also I saw this movie in a movie theater. And I was like, this is another move. Yet another Netflix movie where I'm like, gosh, I wish people could see this movie in a movie theater because it has such a different effect on you. I watched it at home and it worked and it captured my attention. Now granted, this is set in a beautiful Greek seaside village with I late breaking entered for apartment of the year or just like home of the year in movies. This apartment that she rents even though the lighthouse is kind of shining through it all the time. Lot of rotting fruit in there too, you know, that's the one heavy handedness. The symbolism in this movie is like extremely funny and I'm sure it's from, you know, frantic, but lita being Maggie Gyllenhaal's leader being Olivia Colman's character's name, Nina, which I assume is a reference to the check off play to the seagull. Yes. Well, leda and the swan is literally recited in the film in Italian. I mean, sure. Callie is calliope, which is another, you know. Okay, like we got it. There's the rotting fruit. There's the doll, whatever. But a beautiful to look at movie, but also we mentioned the doll or I mentioned at all. It's intense, there is a propulsive, oh my God, what's gonna happen is someone gonna find this doll. I was very stressed out about everyone walking into the room with a doll and being like Olivia, I need you to hide the doll, or just do something with the doll. So and I really credit Magellan calls that there is we made it sound like an intense psychological, quiet drama, which is it is in a lot of ways and there's not like a huge amount of dialog, but it is also has narrative movement. And you want to know what's going on. It has like that very specific like the hand that rocks the cradle or Pacific heights. That kind of like early 90s thriller energy to it. Not in full, but it has remnants of that that I think makes the movie extremely enjoyable to watch in a very unnerving kind of a way. It's a very good movie. It sure seems like Olivia Colman is gonna be nominated for best actress. I don't know if she could. Let's talk about best actress quickly, okay? Okay..

"The young version of the character Olivia Colman plays Don't make it great This is straight leap from the book right Her kids love that she can feel an orange in one piece which I think a lot of kids like You know but the song just takes it to a whole nother level and it ends up being a major key to making the film work But honestly there are things like that all over the place I believe in actors with ideas That song points to something really nuanced about the film which is that while it portrays an ambivalence about motherhood it also portrays kind of joy and love and moments that this woman derives real pleasure from being a parent Can you talk about how you balance that with the frustration and rage and exhaustion that sort of lie at the surface Well yeah I've been a parent for 15 years and I feel very confident that no matter who you are parenting is designed to bring you to your knees You know there's no way to become a parent as anything other than a total beginner It's designed to grow you both to grow a child and grow a parent I think And growing hurts And I think it's very very difficult even for adult grown-up people to hold the ambivalence of parents and mothers and their mind And so I think we've seen lots of films and television shows where the spectrum of what's normal is pretty slim And in fact I think despair terrible anxiety confusion along with the kind of a heart wrenching ecstasy is all a part of the spectrum of normal Do you think later as a character is on the spectrum of normalcy as a mother Sincerely ask that question I absolutely do I mean look here's the thing She does something and I won't give it away That's very apparent That's extremely transgressive And that causes her and her children almost unbearable pain Something that I can't imagine is a possibility for me you know But basically everything else she does I can relate to And I've been told I've been told by many many people I have fallen asleep playing with my children.

"Colman is extraordinary in the loss. Daughter maggie jilin halls bold direct. To'real debut by stephanie's ajar for her directorial debut magill and hall has chosen a complicated project a movie that winds through complex emotional corridors that would challenge an experienced filmmaker that makes the feet she pulls off with the lost daughter playing in competition at the seventieth venice film festival and hitting theaters and net flicks and december that much more remarkable. Olivia colman stars as leader. A british academic on holiday in greece. She has packed her luggage with books. Half apologizing for all the extra weight to the caretaker. Lyle played by ed harris. Who greets her at the property. She's rented she finds a good spot on the beach and settles in a charming irish student named will play by paul mesko working on the island for the summer gallantly offers to move her chair out of the sun and into the cooling shadow of a beach umbrella with their books or beach. Chair in an ice cream will has brought her. She's ready for some glorious langer then a noisy borish and very large american family invades the beach. The men are belligerent. For no reason the women seem sly and manipulative. One of them. The fortyish kelly played by dagmara dementia strides over to lead to ask her to move her umbrella and beach chair to make more room for her sprawling. Family leader refuses. She's prickly defensive but you get where she's coming from it's always. The woman alone is expected to move her beach chair to accommodate others in some way in a manner that doesn't apply to men. Miffed kelly slink away but returns later with a slice of birthday cake intended as a peace offering. Leader is more hospitable. This time and the two women discuss kelly's pregnancy evident from her swelling tummy. Kelly seems to be anticipating or demanding some soothing platitude knoll advice instead leader tells her her mind. Suddenly having traveled elsewhere children are a crushing responsibility. We learn why leader feels that way as her back story unfolds revealed in a lattice of flashbacks through which we eventually see the whole picture as a young wife and mother who's building her academic career. Her field is italian literature. Leader played in her younger incarnation by. Jessie buckley is doing her best to raise her two daughters but her nerves are frayed. Her husband seems oblivious to it. All a flirtatious fellow academic played by peter. Sars guard takes an interest in her and she succumbs to an affair. All of this comes back to the older leader and is revealed to us as she becomes fascinated by kelly's sister-in-law nina played by dakota johnson and a nervy brutal performance. A young mother herself lead observes nita on the beach with her young daughter who seems willful and moody. She and nina strike up a tentative friendship. Though nina slinky and appraising seems to be eyeing leader for what she can get out of her though what that might be isn't immediately clear. The lost daughter is a lot to take in jilin hall adapted. The script from the two thousand six elena ferranti novel of the same name. Lido behaves a bit oddly. She's socially awkward often directs to the point of being unlikable but she's also kind willing to reach out to help others who may be drowning as she wants. Was coleman gives a marvelous performance as a woman well into middle age. Who's spiky edge. Hasn't been in probably never will be completely smooth. She's a mix of nettles and swansdown. And you never know what you're going to get by the movies end you feel. You've come to know a complex and wholly believable. Human being and at the core of the lost daughter is daring and dangerous idea. It's an exploration of what motherhood can drain from a woman. A dramatic switch from the typical glassy eyed bromides about how rewarding it is to bear and raise children. Buckley is terrific. Her performance. meshing. So perfectly with coleman's that it's easy to see the older woman within the younger one and vice versa. Both coleman and buckley are skilled gifted performers but the movies themes are demanding and tricky. I could imagine some people being repelled by them. Jilin hall shapes these ideas beautifully in a way that feels searching and exploratory. Never judgmental and you get the feeling. She's fallen a little in love with her actors. That's not a requirement for every movie but perhaps for one like this which dives soon deeply into the soul of a woman who had to seize her own happiness that extra bit of tenderness can make all the difference to call the lost daughter. An assured debut is to do it a slight disservice assurance suggests that a filmmaker knows everything going in what we see in the loss. Daughter is something greater. The act of discovery of the gifts actors can bring to a story of how to hold a complex narrative together in progress. That's what makes this movie so effective so occasionally troubling and so alive jilin hall. Lets us ride the learning curve with her me. Shannon simmons owner of rats ad agency shannon's biggest colline across the country and they requested an in person meeting tomorrow so she used her american express business cards app feature which letcher tracker business expenses from the last minute flight to the late night burrito upon arrival big meeting tuesday expenses recorded wednesday crushing it every day built for business.

"The Metro area, it is still currently snowing. Was saying about 1 to 3 inches possible, maybe four in some areas today. Like I said Snow, winding around three PM with the high of 30 tonight it's going to get real cold and dropped down to four. Tomorrow. Partly sunny, very cold again high of 10 and a low of negative to overnight. We could see wind chills in the negative 10 to 15 range Friday and Saturday. It is gonna be a cold weekend, so stay warm and it is currently 25 at my top 171. Okay, we're back. Looks like the SAG awards nominations are coming in as we speak. Saggy wagon. "About the crown. The focus being on Margaret Thatcher. Just like like You can't that that can't be the conversation that you walk away from at least the first few episodes. With your just like, But what about Margaret Thatcher? What about market Because of how good it wasn't as I'm looking up all the stuff on the crown season for to your point. It all just keeps coming back to how fans were just in love with Gillian Anderson and I was thinking that's a tough That's tough to do, because think of the last person we saw play Margaret Thatcher. Was Meryl Streep. Yeah, Yeah, your lady and s So for her to be getting this awesome praises, really get me excited. They get started on season three so I can catch up. I'll tell you what Even better than that is watching her in a scene with Olivia Colman. The two of them together are just nailing it. It is just Splendid. Livia Coleman is just so great is the clean. Oh, great. I thought that Claire Foy, I was gonna sort of sad whenever they transition, But then it was like, wait a minute. This is perfect. So good. They're both perfect. That's why we haven't started it yet. Because that that was the initial thing that we were a little bit bummed about Claire Foy not being a part of it, And so that diminished our excitement. One season three came out and then one thing leads to another. So you'll be playing here. You say that It's so good, Steve and then and also you just I actually liked the last season season. Three makes is my favorite season so far, because you just really get to the heart of her. And if it forces her to because of certain things that happen. It forces her to open up her heart a little bit. Yeah, you know, And there's some funny lines in there that if you're paying attention, you'll catch and you'll go. Oh my gosh, It's hilarious, you know, like self deprecating kind of stuff. They're just they're They're they're casting is spot on. Yeah, but they have awards for casting directors. That's untrue. They should Donna, right? They must have some kind of industry. Yeah. Might be a behind the scenes pasties. The cast even someone that I love it anyway. Hurry up, Steve, catch up. I will. You're falling. We could talk to Alexis about it. She hasn't started the third season either. That's my girl Should just do a recap of season three, where the two people with like babies similar age. It feels like it makes some sense in that regard. My.

The Crown season 4

"I am now joined by. Amanda dobbins our resident expert. Amanda thanks for joining me again. My pleasure your pleasure to watch these middle. Three episodes of the crown season four absolutely crushing. It this stuff. Is this really good. We're talking today about favorites fagin and taryn knowle's ands basically. It's the episode with all the kids. The episode with the guy breaks into the palace and the episode. Where charles and diana go to australia. And i have to say that i think four. I've seen a few people dating for here and there for some reason. Maybe because it's too too well kind of put too much of a bow on it. I think it's fucking extraordinary. Like if i i thought that favorites was a really like startling achievement in dramatic writing and just in terms of the amount of stuff that they burn through in the way that they bring all these characters. What did you. What did you think of that episode. I agree with you. And i have not seen any criticisms because i don't really consume social media anymore but anyone who thinks it's too neat or they put a bow on it. I guess find another show This is peter. Marin is a playwright. There is a lot of construction and intentional cinematic and exposition all dialogue and set pieces built into this. It's not. it's not that it's obvious but all of it is very crafted. So i agree with you that i thought episode four was tremendous in terms of the amount of like and setup that they managed to convey to you in a very effective way. Because we don't really know anything about two of the four children barely met any of them and has been kind of a side character and so there are four children who get their own scenes and moments and so you have to develop those characters. You have to develop the queen's relationship to all of them. You also have the margaret thatcher thematic connection of the of the children. And you're drying out a little bit about margaret thatcher's relationship to women as well which is an important larger thematic episode. And also you've got the falklands war. I mean it's and they do it definitely and i thought about something you say a lot. Which is the crown doesn't like doesn't waste a moment. They just pick the scenes they pick the lines. And you know everything you need to know. That is so hard and they nail it. I mean they do a lot of stuff that i think other shows would probably shy away from because it would feel too like they were showing you too many of their cards so i kept thinking about the scene between elizabeth and an you know they go riding out. This is the thing that they sort of both share this love of horses even though and is obviously phillips favorite. And that's like in the way that that gets conveyed in the beginning and their conversations heartbreaking you know like their conversation is legitimately breaking and i think you could look at what an says. She's like. I used to enjoy being the difficult on and scaring people and now i don't feel like have any control over that anymore and you could be like well like you might go your entire life and never have that level of self awareness. You know you may have to go through thirty years of therapy to find that out about yourself and this young woman just like sort of pops out off when confronted by her mother on iran day. But it's beautiful writing. It's just it's just like amazing writing. And i thought the performances specifically in that scene mostly because the three sons come off as absolute troll lords in this episode mean. Yeah but the scene in particular was was quite lovely thought. Listen i think that there are levels of emotional breakthrough and clarity in this. Show that it's never happened in real life and certainly have never happened in the uk and to anyone who is absolutely senior no country just a lot of time talking about salads in england too early because they get a lot of salad industry and how to their salads or just blue cheese and bacon their emotional relationships are blue cheese and bacon. Do they are not. They're not doing the the smart greens. Now i mean it's it's a tv show and we are projecting emotions and trying to figure out how these people felt about the facts that we know are true. That's what we think is so interesting about episode for which made me reflect a little bit of on the queen character in this season and an interesting thing is happening. We talked a little bit about this on the last episode. Where libya coleman is kind of popping out a little bit and coleman is one of the great actresses of time and also i find her personally hilarious so i think that that's great but i see moments where it nothing is on the page and it's just olivia colman giving it that sense of humor giving it that timing Or maybe even the character is being a little bit written to her strengths and that is also a little bit because the queen is not. i mean. she's not a side character but the way they're telling the story is about all of the other people and events who are kind of crowding into that character's life and how she's bouncing all of it but episode four is just it's about the queen and all of their writing it's character development that is in line with the past three seasons that we've seen and it's pretty extraordinary and i think libya coleman also does like a great job with the actual written script and the character and the reacting to like the horror show of her children. I mean they all are. Do you have a favorite of the four. Who is your favorite on the shore in real life. No on the show. I don't really i. It's shifted i think blassie's and it would have been charles and yeah and this season it's probably end. Although let me get to the end of it. I mean it's obviously not editor andrew. So yeah. I wanted to just quickly before we get into edward andrew charles. A little bit ask you you start this episode up. Did you expect the wedding. No if only because number one. I read some spoilers about how they don't show the wedding but i do also think in their when charles and diana yes yes. The most watched royal wedding. I think of all time. I i don't. I should have gotten this statistics. It was close to a billion people. Watch it. I mean that was everywhere and people taped it and watched it over and over again rate including me who. Dvr it when bbc america riera it before the wedding harry and meghan and it was part of their like twelve hour block of programming. I watched all of it i. It's pretty boring. They didn't really have their production values in one thousand nine hundred one that we expect from royal wedding now anyway but no. There was sort of finality to episode three and there was something intentional about the way they showed their rehearsal and kind of the real behind the scenes emotions where i was like. Okay this is an interesting choice and like this is what we're going to get and also i've seen it before was do because like they wouldn't be a lot of opportunity for people to be talking during that so unless there would be some fagin like wrinkle history that they wanted to explore not really sure what they would do their right. I mean it happened at such a scale that even it would defy the crown's siegi budget. I will say. I was surprised that diana disappeared for new episodes. We'll get episode five. But she is very briefly shown and she is heavily pregnant when she shown episode four. And she just won't come out of the room and in one way. That's really all you need to know. About how their marriage is going and how everything is you know how everything is is shaken out but on the other hand i was like uh this is a choice. Diana pretty popular. Yeah yeah no. I thought that the dow is interesting. Also the suggestion. That charles is starting to become under the influence of these gurus and like self help nutritionist. Which i didn't. I didn't know that about him. Oh yeah the the lawrence vander past reference. I only know about this from the tina brown book. But apparently he brought those books on their honeymoon and then tried to get diana who was twenty at the time of their wedding to read the books and discuss them over for dinner on their honeymoon. So that's how that went

2020 Golden Globes Predictions

"I'm Shawn Fantasy and this is the big picture of conversation show about predicting the results of an award show do not respect. That's right Amanda. The Golden Globes are nearly here. They are the conclusion of one of the more fun weekends of the year. We'll have NFL wild card weekend starting and then Dispatch the sped award. Show Fun for you nightmare for me. I will go straight from the eagles which my husband is too invested in into ricky surveys haltingly. Golden gloves so prepare for Sunday night attitude from Amanda yes I will be preparing for a weird attitude likely from ricky traverse one of the more more unusual figures to host an award show in the last ten or twenty years. He's back hosting Golden Globes. Were going to be predicting the results of some of these races which are chosen by ninety anyone mysterious foreign journalists Jervis was selected by these people to host the show in part because he has been the host of some successful editions of the Golden Globes. Last year was a different kind of Golden Globes humira call was hosted by Andy Sandberg and Sandra did not recall that. Until you said just now I think that I thought that that it was going to signal a new way forward for the Golden Globes. I don't know not necessarily a more progressive way forward but just the different kind of approach to hosting Alaska races back. What's your take on these days? Why are we still doing this? That every that's kind of where I am. I just like no thanks. I've moved on. I think we as a TV and awards. Washing washing community have moved on feels stale and it and he's feels like just kinda trying to hold onto whatever influence he had like ten years ago he still has a huge following and I think he's still a very successful comedian per se but he feels very fake controversial as a professional. Now where sort of everything he does is more of a provocation than a joke. which is not really where you WANNA be now famously on this award show? He's quite sharp elbowed he takes shots at celebrities as opposed to patting them on the back as many Golden Globes hosts have in the past I guess this is fine. I you know you think like what happens. When crosses the line and we have an outrage moment how will we handle that in this otherwise very convivial award show? I don't think people will care either will be the requisite op-eds or takes or whatever and perhaps that will distract from whatever terrible awards. The Hollywood foreign press gives out You know and maybe we'll put all of our anger into that and then we can just have an award. It's show maybe that's maybe it's a nice way of of dividing the components. Do you think we're queudrue vase was up for the joker and joker think he was auditioning against Joaquin now down He. He was auditioning for the Penguin. You know in the new one because everyone wanted to be the penguin You know this is a movie podcast broadcast but there are also a bunch of TV awards at the Golden Globes I. I haven't really paid much attention to the TV awards nor will be really prognosticating but yovany any sense of what's going. Go down here. TV was what were the big shows. Twenty nine thousand nine six session and fleabag will though shows win awards. What succession might succession session is nominated in drama along with big little lies the crown killing eve and wait for it then learn? They say that I watched the last year in the morning. Show who do not believe on the critics who came late to it and we're like wow the morning show is really become an investigation of me. Too Culture friends a dog wrote the last so it's more nutshell but anyway I still watched all of it. You could see it winning but you could also ASSOC- You know the crown seems like a very obvious when you can also see succession winning because the Golden Globes likes especially in the TV area to To get out ahead of the emmys succession has not yet won the major Emmy Award. This would be an announcement of succession as sort of the next great television. Show on Prestige Steve Cable. Whether that's still the case given the way that Netflix Amazon and all the other streamers have kind of barreled through the doors now is it will be interesting to see You know this. This is really weird. Best TV drama actress Jennifer Aniston. Olivia Colman Jody comber Nicole. Kidman Reese Witherspoon. Two nominations for the morning show. There are more billy crap. He's nominated for the morning show. If Billy Krupp wins for the morning show I take back half of everything I've said sad about the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is very strange. Maybe that's enough on TV awards. What else do we really want to make any sense things for succession fleabag everything else? I don't really care about. Let's let's start with something movie wise that I think is very relevant to this show. Do you think that this award show in. General is impactful on the the Oscar narrative in general or this year. Well let's start with in general. Yes I do because it just seizes attention and for a certain amount of time at a crucial moment and the awards are as much about attention economy as they are anything else. There are a lot of movies to see. There are a lot of voters who haven't quite quite caught up and I'm like oh I guess I should check this out and and sometimes I think it's reactive. Something wins and people are like I don't know about that. I'm GonNa make sure that I invest the other way but there isn't a fanfare around it. Everyone shows up for these. And it's televised and I just think the timing especially you can't help even if you're like this doesn't matter. I'm an ignoring it. We spend so much time talking about it. I do think it matters so last year of course Green Book won best drama and Bohemian. Wraps he won best musical or comedy though. I would argue. That Green Book is a comedy and Bohemian. rhapsody is neither a musical comedy drama. Those two films obviously competed heavily in one quite heavily heavily at the Academy Awards. Do you think that the results this year will sincerely affect the Oscars. Yes because the award season is much shorter this year. Nominations are in what voting begins today. That's that's insane. That's it's so fast and it's so compressed and I do feel like everyone is feels like if they're playing catch up. I'm still playing catch up on a couple of the Non Marquee categories. And I just think people will use this as a bellwether and also has an instruction action will of okay. Now I gotta go watch these three or I didn't like that this one so I'm going to do this. I don't know that it's one to one but yeah I think they're important. Would you argue that this is the most consequential Golden Globes in recent years. I guess so. Yes how strange. How strange I who have devoted so much of our lives to this it is? How do we let this happen? And I think you and I talked about at this early in the morning when the nominations were announced of. How have we allowed this group of people who tweeted airlines to become the major Oscar deciders? It's a very curious thing. Sometimes they do get stuff right. Yeah and sometimes they do vote in a manner that I think suggests like a clear lear narrative will be taking hold on something you know this year. There's an expectation. I'm getting ahead of myself. There's an expectation that Brad Pitt will win supporting actor. Brad Pitt is the consensus sensus favorite among almost every person. I've talked to to win best supporting actor that may not ultimately be the case. Maybe Al Pacino comes by. Maybe Joe Patchy comes by maybe Anthony Hopkins uh-huh bye-bye who knows it's a stacked category but among all the punditry for both the Oscars and the Golden Globes that I've read everyone agrees it's Brad Pitt. A part of that is because he's Uber famous and the famous is usually awarded here also the ingenue is usually awarded here. The morning show is sort of an ingenue at the at the Golden Globes this year. Wow maybe maybe a young performer. Who has never been who's never had a chance to win something before we'll also win here tonight to start with our predictions? Yes okay the first category. We're GONNA talk about his best motion picture foreign language now. This is notable because there is no universe in which this can reflect the Oscar nominations because there are two candidates here from France so are can also with a farewell will not qualify as foreign language. The first nominee is the Farewell Pedro Motive Painting Glory. Selena Gomez portability fire Bongino host parasite and lodge lease loomis Where was your heart? Tell you about this category category. I think this has to be parasite I think so too but okay international body. They've chosen to films is from France and they've basically chosen in American production a CO production and the farewell which is very popular seen by a great many people. They've been campaigning quite a bit. Yes also Pedro Almodovar's all trail possibly the most celebrated non-american filmmaker of the last twenty years. Twenty five years. Maybe it'd be overstating it he's in certainly in the conversation top five. That's all true. All Great Films Parasol is not eligible in either a drama or best picture drama or best picture a comedy Because it's forty which because that's how the Golden Globes work and Bongino is nominated for director and parasite is also nominated for screenplay I wish to signals to me that they really like parasite and this is the place where they can award parasite so you put your finger on something interesting. which is that people tend to look at the number of nominations especially amongst the small body like this as a clear indication of preference over other movies so once upon a time in Hollywood us five nominations at the Golden Globes? That must mean. It's a front runner in every category. Do you think that's true. Not In every category but I think that it means that there is interest in the film and that it will probably win something. I'm also kind of triangulating and and my picks because I don't think I think that they do try to actually sprinkle out awards among the movies that they do like so new spoilers but like I think this parasite parasite will triumph because it may not want other places interesting. I too am going with parasite. I think it would be insane to not go with parasite though I will be devil's advocating my way through this whole conversation. It's always voiced finds you podcast and live life with you Sean. Best motion picture animated amandus fever category frozen to how to train your dragon. The hidden world missing link Toy Story. Four and the Lion King which I find to be the funniest nomination here because the lion king was not submitted as animated feature to the Academy Nevertheless LS Globes has decided to nominate here. I would think twice. Sorry for yes I think that would be the only answer okay. I think that's the only truly beloved loved Film on this lineup. I think that's the only both critical and commercial success that tends to be the kind of wins. Best animated feature which is one of the more interesting features Church of the animated feature categories to me. Is that very rarely do films that are not commercially successful win there but all also also. You can't just be commercially successful. You have to be a masterpiece in the zone which is why pigs are winding picks ours when one almost every year at the Golden Globes since its inception except for last gear when Dino at one now I suck Spiderman Song. Oh Yeah that was a good movie. I was a great toy story. Four th. That's boring category. Hopefully they put that one up

'The Crown' has returned

"The crown of season three as you said just started it's pita Morgan's multi decade multiseason story of the life and times of Queen Elizabeth. The second who came to the throne as y'all will recall in nineteen fifty two the tender age of twenty five and every season of ten episodes Looks at ten events in British history and this new season starts in nineteen sixty four and imagines the royal family's interactions with politicians as a new Labor government has just been elected and the queen is suspicious of the new northern Prime Minister who's also socialist list. Of course some episodes look like interpersonal issues among the members of the royal family. Some look at events in the life of the country like the von Disaster In nineteen Sixty six and in many ways. They're kind of a cockeyed. Look at British history and the main characters The ones who endure over the seasons are the queen or husband Prince Philip. Her sister Princess Margaret a no her children especially as the two older ones and Charles. And one thing that's has happened in this season is that as the Queen has got an older and more established in her reign. She's been played it by a new actress. So at the beginning of episode one of the season we had a very cute scene in which the new queen played by Olivia. Colman was introduced introduced because she was taken to see the new portrait. That will appear on British

And the best Oscar speech goes to Olivia Colman

"I think by far for me, the most memorable speech or moment outside of the performances was a Livia Coleman winning for best. Actress for many reasons, I think that was by a lot of accounts. Unexpected everybody had been predicting Glenn Close to win and Glenn Close. Did the whole campaigning thing which is a big part of winning an Oscar and Olivia Colman didn't because she's been busy working hashtag, filming one of your favorite shows. The crown she's going to be playing Queen Elizabeth coming up in the next season of the Netflix show. And I thought also. Gun close with a win because she's been nominated so many times and she hasn't won. And oftentimes people give folks sympathy VO or win. Even if it's not the best work they've ever done. And then she got up on stage and gave the best speech of the night. What I loved about. It was I don't think she rehearsed it too much. I mean, it's one of those things where if you're nominee evil if you're an actor. You always dream of what you're going to say, and you're in the category, you need to be somewhat prepared. Just in case it happened. Exactly. But I don't think she was really prepared to. But it was better that way everything she said was sought benthic and the lady Gaga at the end. She was a cute what I loved was that it was so filled with emotion, but she was also a professional and wasn't overcome with emotion. She let the emotion wash over her. And we could see all of the different ones happening at the same time. But it didn't stop her from still delivering a nail. Pulling a great speech, and it was funny. It was emotional. You know, talking about I'm getting emotional just thinking about

Olivia Colman Gives the Most Relatable and Emotional Best Actress Speech at the 2019 Oscars

"I think that there was a lot of sincerity and some of the speeches my hair Shalala gave a great speech, Olivia Colman. I believe gave the speech of the night. I think that she won best actress Dane last time, I was on with you. I was on the alluvial Coleman train. And I said I love this actress I've been a fan of hers forever. I really hope she wins. Best actress now coming into today. A lot of people were thinking it was going to be Glenn Close, and I'm a huge going close fan. So I was not going to be mad. However. Olivia Colman one. And I think I jumped out of the seat. I was at a party. I was like oh my gosh. I can't believe she did it, and that speech, she gave was funny heartfelt. It was it was a good one. It's one for the for the you know, I wouldn't say the ages. But I would definitely say it's one for the now. And I I think you can get a hold of a clip and watch it you'll be entertained, and I think if you see it to I I don't know if they cut her off before it. "A lot of those questions are answered in the longer video that is available out there. You can see it. It's about two hours worth it shows what was happening before this little showdown between these two the high school student in the native American and different group. Also, the black Hebrew Israelites. In fact, it's one member of that group whose video sort of a more complete picture of what was happening there. Nathan Phillips was the elder with the Mahad tried and he was there with a drum as part of the end digital indigenous peoples demonstration was happening outside the Lincoln Memorial. Nick Sanmen with Covington Catholic high school. Was there waiting for a bus with his classmates? They had been at the national right to life March show was going on. And then the black Hebrew Israelites rolling protests there outside the Lincoln Memorial to. So those three groups kinda came together at one moment on Friday that snap picture that came out on social media on Saturday morning that showed Nathan Phillips in Nick Sanmen. Locked in a stair is. The one that generated so much controversy, but it doesn't necessarily told the whole story. Greg. Let's say there's extra security at Covington Catholic high in Kentucky have there been specific threats. Well, we don't know if they've been specific threats, but the prosecutor and the police there in Covington are looking at them, very carefully and they do intend to have extra security there on campus. There are protests planned there at the school as well. Native American groups two of them from Kentucky and elsewhere are planning a demonstration there at the school. Why you know we were wondering why the crown didn't keep clarify and. The some of the other cast on because they're doing you know different decades right and we looked at the, new, woman who her name is Olivia, Colman who's gonna play clean? Queen, Elizabeth. And the crown next, year and. That she looks like she's young and she starts when she's? Just twenty nine years old and Laurie's like well why don't we just keep clarify why are we going on Jumping three years but. What. They're doing in this next. Series? Is there's a six season plan for the series and the idea of Ted Sardonia from net flicks he said over six, decades in, six seasons, presumably? The whole show will run eight to over eight to ten. Years yeah and so the Queen Elizabeth is going to age from twenty. Nine to current day in this one so today we found out who they cast as the queen's son Prince, Charles, and it's this gentleman named something, Bailey no at stachel Connor And he posted all. This so you can see a side by side picture of him, next, to, Prince Charles and he says it's the. Ears, his ears. Out One He, said these are going to foul the next. Seasons three and four will follow some of the most turbulent turbulent events and the prince of Wales life and our national, story and he's excited to be bringing to life the man in the middle of. It. All I'm very aware that it's a formerly talented. Family I'll be joining but reliably. Informed I have the ears for the parts and will fit right. In, yes So you have to look at these. Sites I. Think they do a good job at casting the other woman that they cast is Marianne Baillie and, she's playing the queen's. Mother. And they really I think. It's excellent yeah so I think it's fun they. Still have yet to cast because Princess Diana Maybe And season, four End of, this third, season. They say no, so. They, need okay Yep they're aging this. One. Big time Danny. The next one we're going to get a, young, angsty, teenage Prince. Charles and stuff we call my goodness I saw that it makes sense that they, didn't stick, with, clarify for season, three. Because, these actors are probably going to. Aid. Over the course. Of twenty years especially when you're changes so, much, in, that time. They love the show Still haven't finished Got plenty of time before Is. Just not on my game it's hard because I. Found a, time, just watch one at a time just say. Jill you have plenty. Of time before season three. The crown comes out you've got a full year I do know ABC already, did at twenty twenty on the. Thailand cave rescue and they're gonna.
