"All right, let me just wrap up this column because what we can not take and Everett and San Jose good call. By the way, 8 four four 9 zero zero 72 43 I'll get to you in just a second because that's a really important question that you're asking. But I want you to understand that if we're going to save this country, we can not allow GOP Republicans to gaslight us. It's one thing to take the abuse that we've taken from the left. And I still got some audio clips that I got to play for you that are absolutely on unbelievable jaw dropping. Jaw dropping, what Pfizer knew, and then we got this lady, this brave soul and Canada that I want you to hear as well as along with some other things. But the Republican Party inside of Oklahoma, they took this money or they wanted to take this money or they did take the money from the from the American rescue plan and but in taking the money what they said is this Oklahoma hospital Oklahoma university children's hospital could not perform these gender bending procedures. However, there were no enforcements put in place by the legislature for the hospital. And again, the legislature will be out of session and Oklahoma could even have a new governor pretty quickly here. So the money that was allocated to the hospital will instead be used for a physical infrastructure with bad staff and equipment, they can be used for transgender surgeries at a later time. So that's what's happening. So right now they will call the line item quote mental and this is Oklahoma university children's hospital so that they can receive the funds still, mental health facilities for children and crisis close quote. So after the legislative tides change, they'll just use the money any way they see fit. You see how they did that? It's unbelievable. And now thanks to the Republicans, failure, you got $39 million in taxpayer funds that will go to the Oklahoma university children's hospital to add 70 beds for quote mental health crisis, close quote, expansion for children who have undergone the very procedures the Republican bill claims to prohibit. So Oklahoma lawmakers, the column that says and governor stitt, no for a fact that many of these surgeries and hormone infusions will just move across the street because I guess there's a private facility where private surgeons are and they'll provide the procedures and the chemicals are necessary, which are now prohibited only for Oklahoma university children's hospital.

"Just wanted you to know those of you that might be listening here in Florida that he and his company are delivering 20,000 my pillows blankets and children's Bible pillows to Fort Myers Florida on Thursday morning. So that'll be tomorrow morning and Mike will be there himself to pass them out to those that have been impacted by hurricane Ian and continue to pray for those people because I'm telling you those areas are devastated. There's some places in Florida where everything looks hunky Dory. It looks fine and then you'll go to a one particular community that might steal be flooded out in some areas. It's the weirdest thing because the winds weren't as bad, but I'm telling you the water surgeon and the flooding that we've seen here is like nothing I've seen before for sure. So anyway, continue to pray for continue to pray for the people of Florida if you don't mind, we would really, really appreciate it. So we've been talking about how the Republican Party still sucks and now I do want to caution because we did offer some good news. They're going around and they've contacted 70 million people at this point in time. That is a good thing. Listen, I realize that if you vote for the Democrat party, you are voting for a left wing Marxist party at this point in time. But what I'm trying to convey to you is that if we're going to save this country, getting Republicans elected in November is just the beginning. It is just the start of things. There are so many things that are happening where I just feel like Republicans should be on the boss. I should see them in front of a camera in front of a microphone, honestly, I felt like the points that were the commitment to America, if you will, should have been should have been unveiled at a Trump rally. I mean, obviously he has a much bigger audience and it should have been in my opinion a little more specific to show that you're, you really are in touch with the people. And I think that's the advantage that Trump has over a lot of people in the Republican Party. Again, just real quickly. I didn't finish up this story on Oklahoma and I want to finish that up before I get to some other stories and some other headlines for you because again, if you're going to win back the country, if we're going to win back the country, do not rely on the Republican Party. I'm relying on you just as you should be relying on me. If the government of for and by the people. All right, so now I go back to this column. Here's what really happened with the Oklahoma university children's hospital just to recap. So Republicans, he says, and this was written to the federalists a gentleman by the name of Mark elsley, who first exposed the Oklahoma university children's hospital for performing these trans surgeries at the time, and he said what Republicans did. They have prevented Oklahoma university children's hospital from using the American rescue plan funds, which was $1.9 trillion. You guys might recall, which they were slated to receive for gender bending procedures. All right, so they prevented that. They prevented Oklahoma university children's hospital from receiving those funds. The Republicans did. But here's where the Republicans gas lit their own voters in Oklahoma. But there is no enforcement or oversight he says within the OU hospital. And the legislature will be out of session when Oklahoma university begins using those budgeted funds.
Oklahoma Hospital Ends Gender-Affirming Care for Youth
"So Oklahoma Republicans patted themselves on the back. They wanted to look good in front of the camera. We can't have this happen on our side. Here's what really happened. This guy from the federalist, again, Mark ousley outlines it. Here's the first thing and I'm quoting from his column. All right, the Republicans have prevented, he said here are the facts. Republicans have prevented Oklahoma university children's hospital from using American rescue plan funds. That's important. Biden stimulus, which they were slated to receive for gender bending procedures, but there is no enforcement or oversight within the hospital itself. And the legislature will be out of session when the hospital begins using the budgeted funds. So Oklahoma could even have a different governor at that point. Therefore, if the money is allocated to the hospital, it will be used to build a physical infrastructure banned staff, equipment that can be used for transgender surgeries later. So right now, they will call the line item, listen to this. This is how they get past it. Mental health facilities for children in crisis. This is how the hospital got their money anyway. After the legislative tides change, they'll use it however they see fit. The hospital staff are full throated supporters of this ideology, but thanks to the Oklahoma GOP failure, there's now 30, $9 million in taxpayer funds that will go to the children children's hospital under a different name and they just gas lit us.

"I went to an HBCU, Oklahoma university before I came to Michigan state. So for my entire life, 99.9% of my friends, you know, and my associates were African American. And I remember when I first started doing corporate work, I'm so grateful for learning and folks like you where, you know, you get to meet people and it's not just perception. But before it was like perception. So I'm on the stage, right? I'm not getting that amen that I'm accustomed to getting. You feel what I'm saying? Like, yo, what's going on here? It's like, hey, you're not in the black church. You know what I'm saying? Like, everybody don't respond like that. But for me, and it was like, yo, does that mean y'all don't like me? Y'all don't like what I'm saying. It's not valuable. And folks would just stare at me. You mean, they just look at me. And I was just like, hold up, God, why would you put me in a room? And when you talk about baby boomers, like this was before millennials blew up. You told my baby boomers older white males, you know, who they looking at me, I'm like, okay, God, is it the should I change my, you know what I'm saying? 'cause it's good money. I never made this kind of money before. Should I? You know, and so that was impostor syndrome. You know, and I never forget afterwards, you know, my Friends started coming to me, you know, people I established a relationship with from the speaking, they would come to me and be like, yo, eman, I never told you, but man, that part where you talked about being a 7 figure earner, but not a certain figure dad. Bro, that really stuck with me, bro, and I went home, and I just got to let you know, my daughter loves me more that she's ever loved me before. Like, I never even thought about it, working all those hours.

"Another story prior to my going back to the woman in Washington state, 80 year old woman, kicked out of the YMCA. Because she didn't want to biological man in the women's locker room as little girls got undressed. But to the left, that is a civil right. You were a man who says you were a woman, and you can, in fact, be in a women's locker room as women get undressed. Yes, it's a civil right and you're called a hater. If you don't agree with them, you're a hater. A heater of what? A hater of trans, gendered people, if I don't know your a man, then I don't care if you're transgender. But if it's obvious, in any given way that you're a man and you claim you're a woman, we have a problem we do what we do. It's just it's a problem. This is a nuanced fact of life. Maybe you don't belong in a women's prison. Where one, at least one, but I think numerous biological males impregnated women prisoners. Though she was kicked out, the 80 year old woman. She didn't want this biological male in their locker room. Did you hear about this? The system coach, the longest tenured football coach in the big 12 kale Gundy. For the Oklahoma university of Oklahoma the sooners as they're called. He resigned this week. Saying that he had read aloud quote a word that I should never under any circumstance have uttered. Off the screen of a player's iPad during a film session last week. So he uttered the N word. It was, it was part of something he was reading. I'm telling you that medieval laws of blasphemy were not as intense as the laws of blasphemy that the left have erected in our country. To call a black person the N word is despicable. Period and of issue. To say the N word in the context of something you're reading is not despicable. It's so sad that he had to apologize. The unfortunate reality is that someone in my position can cause harm without ever meaning to do so, Gundy wrote in a statement posted to his Twitter account. In that circumstance a man of character accepts accountability, I take responsibility for this mistake, I apologize. He made a mistake. He is fired from his job. How will he make a living? Does he have a history of racism? Is what he did racist? Gundy said, in the moment that in the moment he did not even realize what he was reading. And as soon as he did, I was horrified. I want to be clear the words I read aloud from that screen were not my words. What I said was not malicious. It was not even intentional. That's right. Still, I am mature enough to know that the word I said was shameful and hurtful, no matter my intentions. But with a word, a word as opposed to a deed, intentions matter. Good intentions don't matter with terms of result of the matter in terms of how we judge, many actions, this accidental homicide and this premeditated murder..

"And so energy is Oklahoma and because of that, I'm just very bullish on it. I have coined this term. So Oklahoma university and Oklahoma state university have rivalries with Texas universities, football rivalries. I went to a neutral school, I went to a university of Tulsa. I don't have a dog in this fight. Don't really like football. Anyway, it's this whole thing, and it's called the Red River rivalry of these games. And I like to coin this term the Red River hash rate rivalry, where it's a playful, competitive engagement. I don't necessarily think we'll compete against Texas. I think regionally Bitcoin mining as a narrative will kind of flywheel. Especially because our legislators go down there and they come up here and everybody's involved in oil and gas. So they all know each other. But I want to see where each state is by exit hash by the end of the decade. I would say we're going to be about even. If I could imagine, if I could just kind of throw a dart at the wall, I'll say we'll be about even by 2030. With Texas. Texas. Wow. Okay. That's a lot of hash rate. I mean, there's gigawatts of Azure coming to West Texas. It's my understanding. You think the same for your Oklahoma? Yeah, I mean, what happens when you start routing all the pipelines through Oklahoma, which already exists, the infrastructure is there, so if it's a pure energy play and the amount of energy flow in a state, then eventually some of that energy will be routed or a larger part of it will be routed to mining. We don't see mining happening off crude oil yet much, but if we're talking like pipeline volumes of crude passing through a state, Oklahoma is like top of the list. So we'll see. Piss off a few ESG people if we were a crude oil. We'll also see a lot of wind.

"Later tonight and we will get to that because we have some juicy ones, Romans here serve in takes. Yeah, it's on 11th tonight. We'll see all that. Mama made it. And we're back. Let's have a Tucson and Bill is up next. Hey there. How you doing, Paul fine, bob? Hi, I'm doing great. Listen, I have a piece of information. I worked at WMC a.m. in Memphis in 1974, 5 and 6. And for one year, I also was the voice of the Memphis state tigers when the world famous Jack Eaton was during the television broadcast. Wide open. Do you recall that at all? I had, I do. I grew up idolizing Jack Eaton and, you know, that was a team we followed. My late mother was the biggest Memphis state basketball fan in the world, so I would accompany her to games. But I vaguely I had just gone to school that year. That was my first year at UT, so I probably didn't hear as many games, so were all the games on television. We did yes, we got 8 games on TV. I did the games that you see LA pepperdine. Oh, yeah. But I do remember WMC. It was 79 on the radio dial in 5 on the TV dial. That's correct. And I did the afternoon drive show for three years and then the company asked if I would be kind enough to do play by play, which I had been doing in Texas. I had done a lot of Texas high school football at that time. So when I made my move to WMC, which I enjoyed Memphis greatly had that opportunity to spend one year working in the play by play booth after Jack went to TV and I worked with the old George Kirk. Oh, my goodness, yes. I do remember him. Well anyway, I wanted to call him let you know. That is actually so interesting. I will tell you this quick story, again, your 12 11, 13, 14, and you grow up listening to somebody. And many years later, Jack started doing a show, I guess it was on that channel. I really don't remember. He started doing a sports talk show like everybody else. And his producer called me one day. And when I came up, I literally could not speak when I was on the show with him as a guest. He was I mean, we all see things differently and then you get older and you get cynical. Like, I am. But he was the soundtrack of my youth. I can assure you. Well, Jack was one of the nicest guys I ever had a chance to work with. And on many occasions when we go on the road that year, because remember, we had John Gunn who passed away at a young age. Right. We also had we also had Victor Reid at off guard. Was that the year that gene bartow was he still there in 74? No, he had gone to UCLA. No. He went to Illinois. Right. And then Wayne Gates took her. Wayne took over. Okay. Yeah, and that's who I was working with, but yeah, Marco had gone up to Illinois after he had taken one year there would be later reunited with coach barto in Birmingham and we became such close friends. That was another one bill that I hear when we became friends. Even as he was getting retired and was close to the end, it was still hard for me to believe, I'm sitting here with the coach of my youth. But then again, I was a very impressionable kid. Well, he was a very great guy. How long were you? So when did you so you were there how long, Bill? I stayed in Memphis for three years, and then I had an opportunity to go out. The California and actually do a sports stock show at KSP and Sacramento. The only reason I left Memphis because I thoroughly enjoyed the radio station and Scripps Howard was the owners at the time, which was the WMC. I worked for their newspaper in Birmingham. How great this has been to, I mean, I feel like I know you even though I've never met, but it is great to reunite. Yes, it is. And I'd like you to make a comment. And this is hypothetical. I'm a sooner, graduate of Oklahoma university. And my question is, let's say OU goes ahead and is able to knock off the next four games. And they go four to 13 and O and the committee, which I'm not crazy about this committee, decides not to put them in the let me jump in because we're out of time. I don't think.

"Are you a coach encouraging your quarterback to use his legs to run around extend plays? Daniel Jones is obviously a great athlete. But in my opinion, he does not use his athletic ability. I don't know if it's infuriating to watch. I'm like, I know there's more here. Something's being left on the table. It's really hard to watch. And it makes me wonder is he not being encouraged to run around more and extend plays? And why not? If he's not, the Giants are one and three, I want to see Daniel Jones run around more and extend play. He's capable of it. Can we make it happen? And maybe this is half a joke like half of it is a joke. It's also like a weird, fun theory, maybe the Giants need to hire some kind of really creative college coach to be their offensive coordinator. For example, could you pay a Lincoln Lincoln Riley is the king of the castle at Oklahoma university. He's not leaving anytime soon. But what do you think of him like a $100 million and said, hey, come be the offense of coordinator? Do something crazy if you're in New York? Let's get a coach who's really, really creative, who can pull the best out of Daniel Jones. And maybe Lincoln Riley's I don't know, especially after urban Meyer, do I trust a college coach to come work in the NFL? Definitely not. Maybe you need to coach. You need Lincoln Riley's the offensive coordinator you need a guy who knows the NFL to be the head coach. Maybe that's a terrible idea too, because Lincoln Riley is a head coach now, and being an offensive coordinator is a step backwards. I don't know. Maybe a higher Joe Brady from Carolina. I'm spitballing here. But it's very clear to me that the environment around Daniel Jones and Justin Fields in Chicago. They're not being encouraged enough to take risks and I want to see both of them play off script a little more. If nothing's open, extend a play, keep it alive. They're playing safe when they're playing scared and they're playing like they don't know the freedom to make a mistake if they don't they're going to get benched or get yelled at or potentially lose their job. And it's not a healthy environment for a quarterback to play in. And by the way, fans can be part of the problem. Giants fans. I love you. You are passionate, you care, bears.

"Started with boise. State's the world one way back to to The bcs and even in the the playoff era with ucf and teams like temple in cincinnati last year they've always kind of hit a ceiling in the rankings. And now you wonder at this point of the leaders just clearly just saying we're going to separate basically put the haves over here the have nots over here going to go form our own. Our own world and our own governing body. We're gonna make this more realistic and more current more up to date model of big time college football that was. Espn's kirk herbstreit reacting to the latest bomb to hit these splintering world of college football the university of texas and oklahoma university declaring that they're ditching the big twelve for the big bad southeastern conference. So today we summon spencer hall the poet laureate of the sec. To explain how all of this is a matter of life and death for not just the big twelve but also the nc double a. itself. I'm pablo torre. It's thursday august fifth. This is espn daily presented by cajun. Our purpose is people. Since you have two boys how old they now. we're looking at eight. Eleven pablo ooh and so college football fans already or not yet indoctrinated it being indoctrinated but they don't know it spencer hall is decorated college football writer bearded contributor to the sec network and an excellent father we're just letting the groundwater seep in and when it's a flood they won't notice the rising water. That's what happened. I didn't think i was a big fan growing up. And then i remembered that i just learned all of this by osmosis and was asleep or sell this whole time. How would you explain what is happening with the big twelve right now and texas no you and what the hell's going on in college football okay. Well i got explain that ones in charge in college football. Absolutely no one. It is functional anarchy but there are few pools that college. Football tends to coagulate it. One is the mid west. And that's where the big ten is. And that's where a lot of the money and power is a lot of the money empowers in the southeast and the southeast conference and then there's texas and california that's really the entire college football map and everything else in between is pretty much mid-size to charming mid major level college football. We'll ignore all the angry mid major people who are currently screaming at their iphones. No we love y'all and your hipsters and that's great but when it comes to writing checks y'all ain't gonna show up and people won't show up for you and purchase your large television rights and market them on massive multi national networks now traditionally that middle of the country texas is gravity. Texas had not one but two different conferences sort of built around it. The first one would be the southwest conference the famously corrupt southwest conference. Some people say corrupt. I say entertaining. Smu was in that conference. It's possible to build an entire conference out of the state of texas for a while. That's basically what. The southwest conference was with arkansas with oklahoma thrown in you describing a pyramid being built around the faroe that is correct. Basically texas said we are a center of gravity and the planets aligned around it because football is that big in texas even if the texas longhorns aren't that good. Historically texas is an underperforming program in talent rich state with a ton of cash. There the first ones to tell you this. Go ahead and rub it in their face. The big twelve inherently unstable because texas is disproportionately large. The only team that compares with them in terms of brand size national reach is oklahoma. Oklahoma is a consistently great football team that you have to reckon with on a national level. There were greater to bob stoops. They have continued that under lincoln. Riley historically you're talking about the team of bud wilkinson and barry switzer. Frankly the only way. That the longhorns managed to top them at anyway is at the bank. Texas is consistently either the second or first most profitable athletic department. There's so much money there and it has been run like a business for a very long time so this conference spencer to be clear this conference that's dominated by these two huge money entities. How did that play out if you have two giant celestial bodies with a bunch of smaller moons orbit when apparently a year ago over a year ago texas and oklahoma grew tired of having to deal with the complaints and inferior revenue sharing of their compatriots in the big twelve. Other words where the real solo act. You guys you're dragging down That seems to be the motivation. Because there's bigger and better money out there and it's very hard for the big twelve as a conference to negotiate. The kind of tv deals that allow for the astronomical revenue sharing that you will see in the big ten with their own network and with the sec who has partnered up with. Espn runs their network full disclosure. You worked for them just in case anyone knows and i am a contributor on the sec network okay. Everyone's tied in is what i'm saying but apparently these conversations began well over a year ago about moving texas and oklahoma over into the sec. There's already been a trial. Run of the sec. Expanding texas thanks to the previous round of realignment pet involved texas a and m the aggies came in and revenue wise and in terms of fitting with the conference and contributing being just an interesting valuable member of the conference. That's been a smashing success. It's helped with recruiting it's helped with the overall viewership at footprint of the conference so texas m. as a member there pretty great who would be better. Well why don't we just go ahead. And get the longhorns. Well the economics. I'm somebody i'm from new york. I think of all of these college. Football stadiums is like these massive unfathomable coliseums. But then i see quotes from barry switzer the former coach at oklahoma who talks about. How in the sec. The sec has all the schools all be schools where the word university is in front of the name university of alabama university of georgia. Ready to florida switzerland. They sit one hundred thousand people. It's different from these church schools. We have in our league which is just a stunning measure of difference. This by the way berry again talking about everybody else in the big twelve. I love that. He's still irritated that he had to waste a single slot on the schedule to church schools. Obviously referring to baylor tcu or s in one of those schools who those are programs by the way that have their own extremely high standards of performance. But they're going to max out at x. And the sec. And oklahoma texas or not interested at x. they're interested at x. projected forward plus why equaling massive profits. Yeah they want exponents x. To the whatever next power and that brings us to the question of what does happen to the big twelve as the sec is exponentially growing and writing hard and fast into its future. What is left behind. What's left behind is a conference where some.

Thank you very much a I've got questions for you. But first and foremost. I just have to stay horns down please. Don't flag me from sportsmanlike conduct or anything like that My first question. Is you know if this goes through. I of course it's should ut We've talked recruiting a little bit. But you know alabama always has great recruits of the state of texas. Do you think with. Ut now coming into sec will this help ut. Retains them kids in texas or does alabama's pedigree trying to keep up and keep getting most big time players out of out of the state of texas jeff. I happen to think it's a new game for texas. I think they're recruiting will be enhanced dramatically because it is something new and it's exciting and if you're living in that state i i saw what it did for the aggies and and i think it will have a similar effect on on on awesome Second question i have. is you know. It's a different play in the sec. You know a lot. More physical play. I think You're facing the nfl caliber. Defense linebacking core defensive line You know with the talk of possibly going to miami. You know four large conferences. Do you think this is really good for football. And athletes in general or do you think that the the move to where they got top caliber Teams are facing wiki. A week out might take a toll on your body's maybe maybe slowing down a little bit. Yeah i. I don't think the the athlete is going to be affected by by this. The sec was already a great league and it was. We're already pretty far distances to to cover. I don't think there's any effect on that I do think. And i'm curious. What coach don and thinks about you know some of the teams that are struggling. You know what this means for them but no on the wear and tear. I don't think there's any impact at all. Scott is up next god is in texas and you're on the air. Hello scott paul finebaum I've been following your career since you. Sports editor at the daily bake daily beacon. Goodness thank you well. It's good that they finally come to save us. Yeah i. I appreciate that too. Because i don't know about you tony a week ago before this story broke i was. I was really worried about the sec's health and wellbeing. What about you. I was i was completely. This may also had a chance not too long ago to go out to look for worth and go to a tc game and they played west. Virginia and i could not believe the visceral hate. tcu had for taxes and then we had a m. Come to athens. And they talked pretty poorly texas and i got the second well. What was their main gripe. Because there wasn't even an inkling of it. It just flat out just people were blindsided out of nowhere. And this is the news. The texas and oklahoma are leaving their conference the big twelve and heading to the southeastern conference now. Texas is the number one revenue generating athletic department in the country. And oklahoma i believe is eighth or ninth so neither one of these programs university athletic apartments are wonder whether next meal is coming from. They're they're doing okay. They're doing pretty good okay. They also were in a league that they completely dominated. They could do anything they want. The league would any rule it would let texas have its own television at work on top of it at the the. The conference doesn't have a television at work but gave texas its own. I mean they let these two teams because they knew how vital they were have. Anything they wanted it still didn't matter and those con- those two teams ejected on them now to join Southeastern conference that was already a behemoth with names like alabama lsu and tech. Say an but now even more so. I want to discuss this for a few minutes for pop. Culture tuesday not from the sports angle. Because this these teams. I don't think it'll be till twenty twenty-five that's when the contract ends my guess is they'll figure a way to start at sooner than that but we don't it could be not for another four seasons before we ever see those league teams in that league instead. I think there's a broader worldview conversation to be had here. And i think this story indicates that the american worldview has collapsed like entirely like every like every side of the cultural divide. It's just collapsed. Michael knowles and i were just kind of having a similar conversation. You know that the idea of have no standards a lot of people in the right. That's what they want to say. Are we hate the left standards. let's have none. Well okay. they're still gonna do. There's so they're gonna still impose on you but then you have none. I mean that doesn't work right. What happened here is. Left-wing utopian institutions awash drenched in progressivism the longtime head of oklahoma university. A former democrat. Senator david boren who passed away recently. Texas austin is considered almost its own community within the state of texas. These progressive left wing institutions. Just taught us again that human nature is not basically good which is essentially their cardinal mantra. That's the number. One assessment of their their worldview begins at human nature is basically good. That's how utopia is achievable over the last Couple of years. The commissioners of the big twelve in the southeastern conference had been working together on a new college. Football playoff format and the commissioner of the sec. Knew all along for at least for the last six months anyway that they were working on bringing in texas and oklahoma and rating their conference and taking them away and not a word was set texas and oklahoma provided. Really no heads up. They had big twelve media days last week and just blindsided all of these partners. Blindsided them all. Why it's to make more money. I mean it's a lot more money. Yeah but it's a little bit like how many more jobs does texas need to import before you. Just turn the state blue because you brought so many blue state voters into your state. And so they're the last three points that badoe needs to beat ted cruz next time right. I mean yeah it is more money but you're texas pretty wealthy now right. Yeah so. I guess you just make it wealthier that you get a democratic governor and it won't be matthew mcconaughey it'll be a real democrat. I mean how much more money do you need. When is enough enough. Human nature doesn't ask itself. Those kinds of questions on its own. Human nature is unbridled. I go from. I guess to go from i because you went for yours and so you saw. Left-wing progressive academia their worldview collapsed on an institutional level just to pursue more money. Nothing more craven than that. But the world the on the right traditionalism heritage legacy it collapsed to. Hey megan more money's more important oklahoma just left. It's fellow member institution. Oklahoma state on the side of the road route. Five thousand g again. These were already top. Ten money earners. These aren't these are folks escape in honduras to come to america. They just did this for a couple more pieces of share price. Why texas has averaged seven wins a year this decade. Don't tell me about winning the national championship. Texas can't beat iowa state right now. You're you're they'll be the fifth sixth seventh eighth best program in the sec. Tomorrow no no. This is just about craven money and so tradition heritage legacy gone out. The window doesn't matter. There's no standard like many on the right one at that way nowadays no standards. We just oppose their standard. And then i can do whatever i want that actually feeds the instinct of what we are up against and so what we learned from is from progressive academia. Human nature is not basically good. We cannot put a check and balance on our own craven desires and instincts but we will follow them all the way to the end. And here's what the end could look like. It's on the table that you're looking at right now. There's one hundred and thirty. That offer full ride scholarships to eighty five players peace. Let's let's get rid of sixty of those schools.

"In everyone to the. Jesus mc sports podcast. I'm your host for today's show noah dunlap and in the first segment of the show. Today we talked the milwaukee bucks winning their first title in fifty years. What was it tuesday night. I guess with their game. Six win over phoenix. I when i had a win since nineteen seventy one four the milwaukee bucks huge janas being named. Mvp naturally. I think we all knew that was coming so we talked all about that in segment one and now here for segment to. I wanna talk the news. That came out basically midday wednesday in that is the report from the houston chronicle up leave as the first place that ran this report that said the university of texas and oklahoma university. We're looking in reaching out to the sec. To join the sec. Conference as early. As what i would assume to be as probably the twenty twenty three football season this would just be utterly massive and the reason i say that is if you pay attention to especially college football now i think the move itself once you've just up and move like that. I think you're talking a multi. Sport move clearly but with college. Football being the biggest breadwinner in terms of college athletics. This is the move that it is most influenced by if you will and what this would do number. One is basically solidify the sec. As being the best conference in college football as well as basically the best conference in sports. I mean you think about alabama right now with nick saban as its head coach. Think about what georgia is doing with kirby smart. You think about Coach down at lsu winning a title. What two years ago. Which burrow in one of the best seasons that we've ever seen Auburn auburn's always has the potential of being there. Dan mullen is trying to get florida. Back to relevance Jimbo fisher has takes. Am is basically a preseason top. Five team certainly a top ten team every year. And if you talk about adding oklahoma to that there are a lot of people that think. Oklahoma may win the title this year with lincoln riley as its head coach. I've personally don't think that's going to be a thing. I'll talk about that later on. If you know me at all you know. I love college football. I talk all day about college football but this show we talk all sports so i'm not going to break down. Who i think is going to win the title yet. I'll get to that another day. But this move the idea of bringing lincoln riley into the sec. The idea of bringing steve sarkissian and the university of texas to the sec. Well this is. This is different level right here. This is a whole new level. And i think the part of this that is so surprising to a lot of people myself. Included is the fact that according to the reports that are coming out and like i said d houston chronicle is the first one that ran the story. The reports are saying the announcement could be made in the coming weeks which would basically mean that. This has been going on behind the scenes for a couple of months. I would be willing to bet. This isn't anything new and this isn't the first time that we've had realignment talks at all. If you remember back what five or six years ago. I guess it was probably you had realignment talks There was talk at one point of oklahoma texas going to the pac twelve the pac tin at the time that ended up not being a think and there were a lot of reports that were saying that was basically a day or two away so all of these negotiations can fall through and just ended up going by the wayside but at this point i think this is actually a legitimate story in. I think this is going to happen and the key here is. Let's be clear this isn't going to be a one way thing with the sec. And what i mean by that. Is that when the sec. If the sec ads oklahoma and texas which like i said i think is going to end up being a thing. It's not like the big twelve is just going to sit back and watch two of its teams leave at that point. The big twelve then has to go in and find two more teams and the two likely candidates here. I think houston is absolutely the front runner. I think that's basically a done deal. i think. Debate twelve in houston mutually both want that expansion for the conference. So i think houston would be number one. They're they're reports. That central florida is potentially getting a look. I think that's a good move for the big twelve You know not like it makes sense geography wise. But that's not the point here. West virginia is in the big twelve geography. No longer matters once the pick. Twelve added west virginia to its conference. All geography related stuff in terms of conferences. Just went by the wayside. It no longer exists so even though central florida may not make sense from a geographical standpoint for the big twelve. That's okay central. Florida has the largest enrollment of any university in america in terms of all of its campuses. Central florida is massive central. Florida has seen success on the football field over recent years. That isn't going away. Think about who their head coaches. Now gus malzahn is going to win it central florida. Let's be clear with central florida being a.

This is why we have conversations about 10 year and who's Who's shaping young minds, whether it's your kids, public school or higher education. Um Cornell University and Oklahoma University headed up on the radar here. For a couple reasons. One you have a professor over Cornell University who has decided that they have successfully connected black holes to racial blackness. Yes, I read this whole thing and I don't understand it either. But let me do my best and astronomy course at Cornell University. Is concerned about racism in the universe. And ask the question quote. Is there a connection between the cosmos and the idea of racial blackness? Ah! The course title, Black holes race and the cosmos notes in the catalog description, the conventional wisdom Asserts that the black in black holes has nothing to do with race. However, astronomy professor Nicholas Battaglia and comparative literature professor Parisi Vaziri suggests the truth may be otherwise. Basically they're going to go ahead and they're going to puncture the conventional wisdom by drawing on theories. Theories from Emory University English Professor Michelle right. Um, that crazy lady Professor Ho, who we told you about yesterday? Um and This is kind of how they get. This is how 16 19 project was explained as well. Well, what we're doing is these are academic theories, and so we're working on theories and projects. And in new ways to explain things that we thought we understood. Right. That's like me coming out and taking something that we all understand and then making up a completely insane reason for it and going well, look, this is an academic theory. And as a result, it deserves to be deserves to be explored in the same way. And who knows? Maybe I'm right. That's like that's by the way that is less critical thinking than Occam's razor Ramon that Ross users, which is a comedic device for the show. Okay? "Degree in mathematics. Is that right from oklahoma university of oklahoma. I've got a question mark in my notes. There's a lot of the thing is. I bounced around school because i wanted to sample my undergraduate career. Yes i did go to. Ou for a year. I went to a small private college in maine for a couple of years. I did my first year of graduate school the university of illinois. So i've been all over the place marshall. The nice weather journeyman as they say in right tropical weather expert at the washington post capital weather gang on camera urologists at one point in lawrence. Kansas worked in the weather derivatives sector. Where he helped direct whether it's management operations than like all good meteorologist. He used to chase tornadoes and hurricanes. And if you watch the television iteration of weather geeks you might recognize his voice from the geek of the week segment on tv as well. People always ask who is doing that. You didn't know so. I mean we've talked before greg about tropical cyclones. But this is actually my first full interview where we've kind of really poked into sort of what some of your expertise is in your own work so tell us a little bit about what some of your graduate work was and what you did for your own dissertation in graduate work. Yeah so my dissertation Kind of focused on the interface between weather systems in the tropics in the mid latitudes and how they interact with one another. It wasn't specifically focused on tropical cyclones. hurricanes. It wasn't until. I did my post doc. There where i was basically focusing on african easterly waves and their transition into hurricanes or tropical cyclones. And that really kind of opened up the door for me to try to really understand a longer lead times how cyclone genesis can be view so it was. It was a really valuable experience. And i was planning on doing this. Post doc or three years after writing a proposal and getting the funding secured and trying to build a program that w madison and after about a year The weather derivatives industry kept knocking on my door. And i had to take that career. Turn so yes. Can you briefly. Because the weather derivatives at the enron folks and all of that people might remember because i remember. Some of that heyday myself got haven't got a job. Calls from head hunters myself about that derivatives area kinda right whether risk management and so. I sort of helped develop a company in the kansas city area. Where we look at the the intersection between the economy and weather and try to figure out using our understanding of science and whether predictability and building our own models of sort of medium range weather how to best manage the risk that the economy assumes you know given certain weather outcome so it was a fascinating from for about a decade there but it kind of redirected me because i was really going down. This tropical path is post. Doc and i was like okay. We're going to really figure out how these easterly. Waves of some of them developed into trump on some don't And then you know. I couldn't pass up this other opportunity. That was really wants and speaking of easterly waves because i want to circle back now. I wanted to give the listeners. Some context on the Knock postel's background because you see him on the weather channel and you hear him on whether various places just sort of establish he's got a really nice breath of expertise in our field and so another weather channel really. Is you know fortunate to have him. As part of their expert staff speaking of african easterly waving. I wrote an article in forbes yesterday talk. I'm sorry on monday We're we're taping. This on wednesday. And i was talking about. We're watching three areas. That time one was area that we'll talk more about down in the bay of campeche. I guess there was tropical storm bill. That's now a post tropical system. I believe but there was an interesting little. Easterly way african. Easterly wave that i saw. That was coming off africa. I think it's kind of fizzled now. But is it unusual to have have such vigorous african east waivers. I know some of our cape verde season. Storms really are bread with those ways. How unusual is it for this time of year. It's a little early and usually the that sort of season. These season picks up Later in august timber and continue. Beyond that i get the question all the time from friends and colleagues just to clarify you know. These are not waves in the ocean. Eastern sort of levels in the atmosphere right in the noticeable in the wind and pressure fields. And so when wendy like clockwork from africa tropical atlantic sometimes they carry with them the conditions for future development which is one of the reasons why we monitor them quickly. You know a lot of people. Don't ever do anything. They kind of move across the ocean as a little cloud clusters and then kind of disappear in are sort of in our view but some of them are good at making hurricanes which is why we need to pay close attention to them but the one you mentioned that was highlighted by any see last couple of days doesn't appear to be particularly viable candidate and one of the things that i mentioned in my forbes piece in addition to just lay probably now Moving into some unfavorable sheer environment. I mean the. There's actually some dust out there. I noticed the some african dust already starting to make its way across. I was even wondering if that was her. I mean i think people don't maybe some people don't realize that these dust plumes from suhel are fairly common. I think they've gotten a lot of press in social media discussion over the last couple of years particularly everyone was sitting home during covert. But they've been around. I mean you know talk. Those a little bit about the implications for dust in just tropical development in general. Well i'm not really an expert on saharan airliners. We'll make colleagues in madison. Jason dining was kind of a leader in helping us understand how these dusty outbreaks.

They said that Um, you know that the entity double A doesn't control the TV name in TV rights, but They? They went further and said, to preserve the quality and character of the product. The athletes can't get paid. That's an age old argument that was used in the into the sports world with it when it came to unrestricted free agency and its competitive balance, we're gonna alter the competitive balance is going to ruin the game, and we know that that's just not true, right? So the same thing will happen here. We have players, you know, in baseball, somebody might make $25 million. Somebody's making the minimum same dressing room. Same issue. And you know that's life.
