"I just said, Alabama was still up 7 late at Tennessee. Yes, this version of Alabama is down. Bryce young is played Houdini. But I think there's a few things worth mentioning here, a couple of you guys have hit on, but I can expound on a little bit. But if you listen to Nick Saban on Monday, he went scorched earth during the presser. Doesn't love what the coaching staff is doing isn't happy with some of the players. And he basically said, we can't continue to tolerate guys that aren't doing the things they need to be successful. Nobody is entitled to a position. We've got to make players more accountable. We need to get them to understand the consequences of what happens when you don't do the little things right. We need to play somebody else. There's always a little fear that goes with respect and respecting what it takes to win. You should know that. My job could be in jeopardy. If I don't respect the things I need to do to win. And so there's been this underlying hinting of some lineup changes coming. And I think that's something to keep an eye on. Maybe we see Tyler Herald this week. I think this when you look at how they've performed off of a loss, certainly lines up Alabama's way. The other thing here is Alabama's offensive line has not played well. And I think we kind of envisioned that when you're hitting the transfer portal and getting vandy transfers in, I know, decent player, but not the caliber that you would expect at Alabama. I'm not sure Mississippi front 7 is the unit that takes advantage of that area of weakness. Alabama should be able to run right at Mississippi state. State doesn't create much havoc, you can move them in the trenches. Mississippi outside the top 90 and adjusted line yards. Last week against Kentucky stayed allowed 2.3 yards per rush before first contact. Another 2.7 yards per rush after first contact. So they couldn't tackle. LSU, similar story, 2.7 yards per rush allowed before first contact, 2.7 after. And then you go back and I know it was going to win. But Arkansas without KJ Jefferson rushed for nearly 250 yards on state. And then the final thing I think you consider here is everyone will look at what Tennessee did through the air against Bama and to a lesser extent Texas while Quinn Uber was in the game and think Mike leach's offense loves to chuck. It should do well here. Maybe that happens. But the offense is the way they pass the ball or just so much different. Henin hooker is going to challenge you. His a dot is 12.2 yards this year. The vols love to pressure you deep. Will Rogers a dot is 6. Mississippi state doesn't really hit you deep. There's only one qualifying receiver on Mississippi state that averages more than two yards per route run. Tennessee has two guys that average three yards per out run and two more that average above two. This to your point as I think why we're seeing Nick Saban's defense have success the last few years. Because Mississippi states controlled passing offense doesn't really offer many rickles, right? It's just been very easy to stop and to your point. That's why you've seen 9 points. The last two meetings against with leech against Sabin because just this very dink and dunk short pass offense that doesn't come with much variety and Sabin is able to sniff that out defensively. We always talk about perception versus reality as well, gentlemen. And to think about what this number would be if Alabama not just one at Tennessee, but one uncovered. If Kool-Aid McKinsey's interception that we can say what we want about the pass interference call stands, Alabama has a chance to take a 7 point lead to double digits. There's probably a realistic chance that this number is significantly higher. Now you get a razor focused Alabama team. So it's buyer beware here to Brad's point. We know what some of the numbers may suggest, but I'm not sure I'd want any part of Mississippi state in this particular spot. From Tuscaloosa to Baton Rouge, where LSU will welcome in the old miss rebels and you're looking right now at LSU a short favorite under a field goal here. We have seen the favorite flip from where this number opened up with old miss modest wrote favorites. Total on the game 66 and a half and it kind of set the stage here. The rebels are looking for their first 8 no start in 60 years since going ten and O beating Arkansas in the sugar bowl and claiming a share of the national championship as well as the SEC title back in 1962. Last week versus auburn, they had their most rushing yards in a game 448 since that 1962 season. Meanwhile, LSU looks to avoid consecutive home losses for just the second time in the last 21 years that lost back to back home games in 2016 before that it hadn't happened since 2001. They have won 6 straight at home versus old miss. Old miss won the matchup last season snapping a 5 game LSU series winning streak. When you look at LSU, they got right offensively last week against the Florida Gators, went through a stretch where they scored touchdowns on 6 straight possessions. Jane Daniels looked apart through rushing touchdowns, three passing touchdowns, a far cry from the in app performance we saw two weeks prior when they welcomed in a top ten Tennessee team and Brian Kelly, gentlemen, wasn't shy about addressing that, saying they use that as a learning experience, paraphrasing here, of course. Wish it hadn't happened in a loss. Brad, as far as the number is concerned, all miss deserved full marks. They're undefeated right now. They've gone out there, but they haven't exceeded expectations when they stepped up in class. We know the market has shifted on them. This feels like a lot of fool's goal to me given the schedule that the rebels have encountered thus far. Yeah, I'm not going to make no bones about it. I am part of the LSU flipping to favorite mode here. And it's not like you guys know me. I'm not a huge Brian Kelly guy, but in this instance, it does come down to the lack of, again, strength to schedule a lack of tough opponents at old misses face so far this season. I kind of thought there was a good chance, at least in the summer that they could start off severino.

"Perfect time for UCLA who had beat big time opponents in their own building in Washington and Utah, Oregon, a much different looking team in the recent run of play than what we saw in the season opener against Georgia, but it does leave some questions about the Oregon offense and who have they really faced thus far. From my standpoint, guys, a fascinating matchup of two quarterbacks that have been much maligned DTR in his 37th year of college football. I feel like he's been there since chip Kelly has been the head coach at UCLA. Meanwhile, Kenny dillingham and Beau Knicks getting the best out of what they can do there. Brad, when you look at these two teams and their full body of work, I know you have been a major UCLA detractor all season long. Are you starting to buy into what the baby blue and gold has accomplished in recent weeks? I am finally. It took a couple of losing bets to finally come around, but I got there after the Utah game. Obviously, I was on the Utah side. I questioned UCLA coming in this season on two fronts. Number one, it was a relatively inexperienced team. I know they went heavy transfer portal. I got to look into that in future years when I'm self scouting myself to what I can do better. And the transfer portal is relatively new. And I wasn't, you know, they brought in a rye of guys, a lot of them. Group of 5 type of talent guys. So I kind of questioned the overall talent level for UCLA, but they've exceeded expectations. And then at least early on in the season, I just thought they benefited from playing a weak schedule, but I am sold now after back to back performances against Washington and Utah, although I will say, this is their first true road test. I mean, Colorado does not. Colorado doesn't count necessarily in boulder. So I'm interested to see how they react in this environment, but I will say, obviously it helps having an experienced head coach and obviously an experienced quarterback to possibly handle this environment. Because it should be one of the better environments we've seen in the PAC 12. Big thing, welcome back to big time college football pack 12 conference. It seems like now we're finally talking about you every week. There's a significant game. First top ten matchup in the conference in four years. It's a game that I think has some intriguing storylines, but on the positive side, at least running the window to bet and fade UCLA. At least at this point. Of all weeks, too, Brad, amazing. You're still taking shots to Colorado in the wake of an upset outright upset of Cal as a two touchdown plus underdog becoming the last team to get knocked from the ranks of the winless side and get their first win of the season. Payne, I'll open up the floor to you here. I mean, normally we go on a logical progression. When you're looking at this game from an X's and O's standpoint, which side of the ball fascinates you the most in terms of dictating how we're going to see things unfold at Austin stadium on Saturday. Yeah, I know we're going to get to both sides, but what's intriguing to me and why this is really difficult for me is metrically you put these two teams next to each other and they are very similar. You have too offenses in the top 5 range of schedule just efficiency. Two defenses just inside that top 45 rank and schedule adjusted efficiency. You have two quarterbacks to your point at the top that can look like Heisman winners one second and leave your scratch in your head the next, but both playing more like Heisman candidates. Their top ten and QBR because of the added dimension of their legs. And I think you hit it perfectly and this is new territory for UCLA with a lot of new parts, a lot of young parts. This is their first true road test where fans will have an impact Austin is going to be rocking for chip's return. You've heard multiple UCLA offensive lineman talk about the focus for the last ten days. Being about communication and the bruins pumping in music and crowd noise trying to simulate that atmosphere. Matchup wise, you know, organs been playing a bunch of four two 5 nickel. They showed lots of three, three, 5 against Arizona to get more speed on the field. UCLA has to be able to run it. That's their calling card. Though line has been dominant, if you look top 6 in both adjusted line yards and stuff right allowed for that bruins O line. DTR mobility is just really tough to stop. And then Zach, right? Averaging 1.8 yards per team play. I do question some of the run defenses UCLA's faced. You look at Brad alluded to the first four weeks being pretty soft. We thought Washington's defense was a paper Tiger. We know how much they lost there and Utah defensively has struggled a little bit to stop the run to the point where they've tried implementing 5 defensive linemen for some of these key games. Oregon will be by far the toughest unit UCLA's played in terms of stopping the run. And you look at the three best opponents on organ schedule in BYU wazoo and Georgia, the ducks held BYU to 0.8 yards before first contact per rush negative 0.2 against wazoo. And even in the opener against Georgia, the dog's averaged 2.1 yards before first contact would just slightly below the national average. That's game one of a brand new scheme with Dan landing. The ducks have shown an ability to defend the run. Where UCLA needs to do some damage and the reason why Dan lanning has been playing with 5 plus defensive backs frequently. The ducks are 46th out of 65 power 5 teams and opponent adjusted EPA per pass allowed. It's been struggle bus in the back for the duck secondary. So you have to have DTR and Jake Bobo. Take advantage through the Arctic. I think stay within this number, guys. Brad, when you look at these two teams and obviously strength to schedule, such a massive part of what everybody does when they're handicapping college football, even this late into the season. As far as Oregon's full body of work and the emphasis you place on that George game, does that just become an outlier for what we've seen from the ducks when you talk about the step up in class, some of the intangibles there and look more at how they perform against PAC 12 opponents when you assess that not only for this week against UCLA. But what they can be going forward on both sides of the ball. Absolutely. Unique situation for Oregon and then open are obviously taking a major step up in class, but the fact that you had an apprentice

"Thanks. But you look at what Syracuse has done and it's a great story. And you like it. But this is just a totally different animal they're going against here. I have to think that a lot of the college basketball fans out there get discouraged when they hear us break down. Kansas gets a deep dive this season for the first time in program history around Beth the board Syracuse gets a deep dive for the first time in a while and here we are just casting aspersions in their direction, saying these seasons have kind of come out of nowhere in the market hasn't quite caught up. Brad, when you look at Clemson and Syracuse, how much of you adjusted these two teams respectively from where they started this season. Suffice to say Clemson about the same in Syracuse is obviously been the major beneficiary. Oh yeah, no doubt out there. I mean, even though pain mentioned higher on Syracuse, at least relative to market coming in in the season, I still had to upgrade them 6 points, even though they haven't played that tough of a schedule. You have to respect the job that they've done. And especially on the defense side of the ball, I know they haven't faced a who's who, as far as opposition there. But I really like what they're doing on their second year defensive coordinator Tony white. So 6 point upgrade for Syracuse. Clemson, they're on beaten, but I'm here to tell you, I've downgraded them slightly. Defense is not med expectation. Offense is improved, but coming into the season, my thought process was sure we have the big three, Alabama, Ohio, state and Georgia, who's that 14, at least for me, it was Clemson. They haven't lived up to at least to that expectation as far as I'm concerned, even though they're unbeaten. Almost would love to see a Ron Robin of sorts between Clemson, Michigan, and Tennessee at this point to see who of those teams which could actually go out there. Take advantage of a couple of tactical advantages. One last thing on this game pain and Brad brought it up when you look at Clemson's defense, we talked about obviously and not living up to pre season hype thus far. Offensively, do you see any edges that Clemson can exploit against this rapidly improving Syracuse defensive front? Yeah, you know, listen, I think we all kind of get the Clemson's offense has improved and it's happened for a number of reasons, right? Getting rid of Tony Elliott is DJ U drop in 30 pounds and being that extra man advantage in the run game has helped. You look all told Clemson's offense was outside the top 70 and schedule just efficiency last season. Now it's a fringe top 25 offense through 7 weeks. It's certainly not back to championship run seasons with Trevor Lawrence and the one thing that's kind of interesting as I watch Clemson. They don't really have go to aspects, whether it's certain formations or at certain players. But across the board, the one thing that you see with Clemson is they're buttoned up and they're situationally fantastic. They're converting red zone trips into touchdowns at a top 20 rate. They turn quality possessions into points at the top 5 rate. Clemson's offense has been really aided by good field position and they've been damn good converting on late downs. Now those things don't necessarily sound sustainable, but it's still a huge improvement year over year. And I think the one thing that you guys have hinted at is Syracuse defensively has improved. But what's interesting is Tony white plays this really attacking three three 5 defense that he likes to call them up. It leaves them light in the box at times in Syracuse has to run blitz to fill gaps. That's why you have a Syracuse defense that's still 95th and rushing success allowed 99th and stuff right a 110th an opportunity right out in their outside the top 100 in EPA per Russia out. That's something to think about here. Syracuse does a really good job creating havoc. So when they run blitz this week, pay attention to this, right? You have to make DJ U change direction immediately when he's a runner. He's more of a builder. Shipley obviously has some wiggle and maf has come on strong, but he's also a guy you want to make change direction. If Syracuse can quickly make Moffat and DJ you change direction as runners, they might not get beat up as badly on the ground as the metric suggests. Now, Syracuse loves its corners and secondary. They've been great down to down through the air. They've limited some explosiveness there. But I do question again the competition. You look at the first four games of the season. Syracuse faced passing offense on average that are currently 90th in EPA per pass. Then back to back weeks against Owens 6 FCS Wagner who attempted 6 passes all games so they could speed things up. Then you got to Brad's point a backup in Jack chambers from NC state who can't throw the forward pass. You look at Clemson again. I don't know if DJ used proven to be like the 5 star guy, but he certainly lost the weight. He's worked on his footwork. He's worked on his base. He's not a leap by any stretch. But the intended air yards are up year over year adjusted completion percentage up clean pocket. Up under pressure up QBR upright turnover worthy players are down. It's all better this season than last. And so I think this is interesting. While we like those corners for Syracuse, they certainly have not been tested at any point this season. And you know what pain you mentioned will shiply obviously Clemson at a game plan for his usage rate coming into the season. I mean, he carried the ball 32 times through the first three games of the season. Since then, he's averaged 16 carries a game with a season high last week against Florida state at 20. And maybe we got a glimpse of who Clemson's deep threat can be Antonio Williams with a big play against the seminoles last weekend. It has a long of 22 or more yards and four of his last 5 games. We'll see if the vertical passing threat is there. When the orange invade Clemson South Carolina. From the east coast to the West Coast, gentlemen, and a massive game in the PAC 12 pecking order. It's UCLA taking on Oregon and Oregon right now, a 6 point favorite total in this game 69 and a half. It's down a touch from where this price would have been set during the summer months with Oregon slightly more than a touchdown favorite. You look at chip Kelly. This will be his third return trip to Eugene, but this time the game actually means something in the big picture. Oregon won its third straight in the series last season at the rose bowl by 34, 31 score line following a typical back and forth game that featured a big Oregon comeback from down 14 nothing and UCLA almost being able to erase that deficit themselves coming up just short. Both teams, fresh off of buy week, so a

"Kansas state is going to be successful and pull off the upset here, even with the rest advantage working in their favor, one of the things that this group does so well is their discipline. As far as the penalty yardage they yield, they make you move the ball methodically down the field against that defense. But the $100 million question, Adrian Martinez is clearly experienced to renaissance. You look at what he means this offense, both with his arm and his legs and that's been outstanding. But does Kansas state have enough firepower in your estimation to put a TCU defense on skates that has been a little bit vulnerable in recent weeks when they step up in class? I think that's the path. You envision Kansas state being able to play bully in the trenches on offense with deuce Vaughn and Adrian Martinez. And that's the one thing that's been interesting about Martinez is he didn't want to turn the ball over this year. And we saw coming into the Oklahoma game that their head coach was kleinman was like, let's let this thing rip a little bit more. It's great. You're taking care of the ball, but we need to be a little bit more aggressive. And we saw that for two weeks. Obviously, not the case against Iowa state. But I think with this specific match up, it's going to be those two guys legs on the ground. And right now, deuce Vaughn is really just picked up where he left off last year. He's averaging 1.9 yards per team play. Kansas state's offensive line 17th in opportunity. That's our ranking again that credits both the O line and the running backs gaining at least four yards when four yards are blocked. TCU defensively, 66th in adjusted line yards outside the top 100 and stuff right outside the top 50 in EPA per Russia out. Not only have they been poor stopping the run, but you couple that with what you guys talked about at the top of exerting all of this energy for big games. Meanwhile, Kansas states got the buy week just kind of waiting in the weeds. I think that's something that's interesting here. And the other thing that you have to consider is we've seen nothing but one way traffic both side in total. TCU opened as high as 6. We're now down to three and a half, some four still out there a couple places. Total. Whacked from 59 to 55 and a half yesterday at this time and then around 9 a.m. this morning, that second wave came through to 54 and a half through the largest key number in college football 55. Points are becoming more valuable and you think about why that's happening. It's twofold. As we record this Wednesday morning, 20 mph winds are in the forecast. Keep monitoring that obviously. But the gusts are approaching the 30 mph range. And you look at TCU, they pass the ball at a 10% higher rate than Kansas state. That's going to impact their style of play more. And that's one thing when you might not have access to the information on who's betting what you can start to read markets and deduce that this total coming down yields the idea that this game is going to be played a little bit more towards Kansas state's style. And just quickly on the other side of the ball, you're looking at a Kansas state defense. That's top ten and EPA per pass allowed. You're thinking to yourself TCU's air attack probably won't be as efficient this week because of those other elements. Brad, it's amazing. Pain picks on me for my bachelor party festivities and all of that. He was so banged up on Broadway. He doesn't even know what day of the week it is that we record these college football podcasts calling it a Tuesday, but he was on such a role. Did I say Tuesday? I had to continue to stay Tuesday. You sure did say too. No, no, no, no. No, I didn't. And I said the line moved this time yesterday. Well, we'll have to pull it back on the recording we'll throw the red challenge flag and see what we got. But I probably did. You're probably right. I agree with you, boys. When you look at this spot, it'll be interesting. If TCU can bring it here and cover this number, then we definitely have to talk about them not only being a legitimate dark horse for the national championship, but max dugan's case to be made for being in the thick of things for the Heisman Trophy, getting that much more substantial. However, when we look at a pair of unbeaten guys, it'll take us to Clemson, South Carolina, and a game I don't think anybody had circled on the calendar before the season started having massive implications in the ACC and national championship race. It's the Clemson tigers, nearly two touchdown favorites at home, as they'll welcome in the Syracuse orange, the total in this game 50 both side and total remain largely unchanged. When you look at Syracuse, they'll head to Clemson looking to extend their best start since 1987 and get out to 7 and notching its second top 5 win its last 18 tries. The only win so far in that span came over the same Clemson tigers back in 2017. Meanwhile, Clemson, they've been the model of consistency looking for a 38th straight home win to break the ACC record. They haven't exactly faced a very daunting schedule during that particular stretch. Brad, when you look at the Syracuse orange, hey, full marks the dino babers and what he's been able to accomplish so far this season. But I go through the resume, I look at the schedule they've played, one true road game so far this year at UConn. How difficult is it to assess, even with multiple data points for the orange? How good this team is right now and how much they should have been upgraded from where you had them to start to season. Yeah, I think it is, again, the number one factor here, here we are in the middle of October.

"Among that see humanity, but it didn't see you guys. I'll tell you this, Brad. About midway through the second quarter because there was four or 5 days of shenanigans leading up to this game. I looked over and Todd's half asleep in the middle of that environment. Oh my God. He was beaten up. Wow. Yeah. But midway through the second quarter, I looked over his dozed off. And said that stadium, how? You know, Brad, what the other part that pain leaves out. We were standing the entire time too. So I fell asleep actually standing up leading on a counter. So it may not have been my finest moment, but a friendly reminder that at 40 years of age, I might not be built for a four day bender tailgating and that type of atmosphere. So even with a 100,000 of my nearest and dearest friends around, I had to get a little bit of shut eye in the middle of the second quarter. Those Tennessee football games take in eternity, guys. You look up, they've run 9 plays in 37 seconds have come off the clock. Yeah, you took a little shut eye like the Alabama defense did there for a while in the second world. I may have been more present than the Alabama defense over the course of the four hours there. Well, of course, get to Alabama and how they bounce back. But gentlemen, a lot of ground to cover and no doubt Brad outstanding job and I think our listeners appreciated us for the no days off theme as Payne and I have taken nothing but shit on the NFL side. Since we didn't have a podcast there for Thursday or Monday. Speaking of undefeated teams, we'll go to Fort Worth Texas to start things off a night game as TCU were welcome in the Kansas state wildcats and you're looking at TCU a three and a half point home favorite. Total on the game 55 and a half, we did see the side open as high as 5 and the total at 59 when you look at what sunny dikes is done. If the frogs can get through this game, they'll be the fourth stringed rake team and match their best start since 2015 at 7 and O when you look at how they perform then they started 7 O and 2017 and got to 8 zero and 2015 with now a very realistic path to the playoff, given their upcoming schedule. Meanwhile, Kansas state, a win for them, would give them the inside track to its first big 12 championship game birth since 2003. That's of course the year Kansas state throttled unbeaten number one 35 to 7 for the big 12 title. When you look at how Kansas state has performed this year, gentlemen, they've scored 61 first quarter points to rank fourth in the big 12. And the wildcats plus 41 scoring margin in the first quarter ranks third in the league. Brad, we talk about it all the time. When you have to bring it week in week out, it can be tough to ratchet up that energy. And you look at the recent run that TCU has been on. SMU and arrival game three straight ranked conference opponents and a lot of one score contests at that Oklahoma notwithstanding. How do you go about adjusting overall season power numbers based on the strength of situation that clearly have to be working in the favor of Chris kleinman's bunch come Saturday? So obviously starting off point for any handicap is just going to be what is your power rating on a game. Now that could be just taking the two teams statistical performances, you're coming up with a power rating and you have that as a starting point. And then for me personally, then I get into situational type stuff. Started the season, I'm not a big situational guy, but we talked prior to a hit and record here. This time of year, the edges are smaller. And you're looking for any added edge that you can possibly find. And I'm here to tell you around this time of year is when I start looking at a little bit more situations. And I think this is one of the bigger edges of the week as far as this game goes with Kansas state, off of by, and like you mentioned, TCU, playing a 5th straight big time game, at least for them. And for me, TCU is not an Ohio State or a Georgia from a depth aspect where they could just continue to roll in guys in and out and you're not going to miss a beat. I just question if TCU can bring an a game here. And because of it, I think it's worth at least a half pointer point. So I'll have my starting off power rating says that the line makes sense, but because I think there is a situational edge for Kansas state that kind of leans me already at the very start of the handicap towards case state here. It makes a ton of sense and it's always one of those things is a handicapper you try and figure out how to quantify revenge. Quantify the third road game in as many weeks. That fourth game or in this case we should say the 5th game is people look at the schedule and go, what's the big deal they played SMU at some massive rivalry, especially for sunny dikes and company and you look at the way that they had a race, a 14 point deficit going into the fourth quarter against Oklahoma state.

"I think it was pretty calm and cool aside from one evening. I think we were adults. We did keep an aggressive itinerary and a cross state bus ride that started 5 30 in the morning. Probably prohibited us from a little bit more raucous festivities on Friday night. So to your point, we were adults Tuesday, Wednesday at dinner. Thursday night, we got after it a little bit and Saturday. We spent a full day on the bus. And what an experience at neon stadium, an incredible atmosphere, something that you and I don't really get to partake in all that often, given the sacrifices we make for what we've chosen as our career paths. Yeah, I mean, that was our first time away since inception of this podcast in 2014. And I think if you've listened religiously, you know, we talk about 14, 16 hour days, getting two, three, four hours of sleep, religiously most nights, and that being about the gist of it. But we had to celebrate Todd's pending nuptials and we handpicked a great game, took some fortune along the way, a bad play call by Jimbo, Quinn who was going down. Cadence slovis going down and fortunately, both Tennessee and Alabama were undefeated. And then we were treated to a great game while we were there, but just a crazy environment more than a 100,000 fans in the stands. You could not hear yourself in there. It was wild and then another what, 250,000 outside the stadium, tailgating just an absolute scene. Yeah, I mean, pretty wild. And it kind of peeled back the curtain a little bit. Obviously, it doesn't pertain a handicapping. We get into Nashville on Tuesday. Are we talking to some of the great radio personalities we know from three HL there on Wednesday. And the first thing they ask is what time are you guys playing to leave on Saturday? We think, oh great, we got plenty of time. We got the bus schedule for 7 o'clock to get the guys ready to go. And Payne, you'd have thought that we had told them that Tennessee was zero and 6 and Josh hype was going to get fired. The way that they looked at us and said, no, no, no. You can't leave that late. You're going to get stuck in a sea of orange and crimson and cream or whatever Alabama's colors are. So we bumped that bus right up to 90 minutes earlier. There were a couple gentlemen in our crew that may not have been thrilled, but I think we made the veteran executive decision to be able to pull that off and make sure we had ample time to tailgate before kick-off. Oh, no doubt about it. And the tailgate was fantastic. Obviously, the group of guys was really good, right? We did dinner a couple nights with a couple of your buddies from the music industry who were fantastic and then got close with some of your buddies who I'd met for the first time. So it was a good group overall, but it was a very smart move. Leaving about 90 minutes early to trek to Knoxville. And then the tailgate was really interesting that we were invited into. But we're sitting there during the tailgate watching old miss auburn, but it was just a scene of who's who's from mayor of Tennessee to hand and hooker's mom to brew McCoy's family. It was a good tailgate scene for us. Yeah, I will say thanks to clay for inviting us into the fold. I did not anticipate on my bachelor party bingo card, singing happy birthday to henan hooker's father. As part of the pregame festivities, we would take part in. But again, for all the loyal listeners out there, they made recommendations for restaurants where and what to do in Knoxville as well, can't thank all of you. And for those folks who helped make this a reality, heartfelt gratitude sent out to all of you guys. And like you said, pain, it takes a very special event for us to take a week off, appreciate the listener's patience and more importantly that we had Brad powers to fill in. But we do have a big slate of games to get to. And we may as well wait until Brad is in the mix before we say all sorts of nice things about the kind of content he created in our absence. He joins us every Wednesday here on the bet the board podcast and you of course can follow bet the board college football analyst, Brad power 7 on Twitter and Brad. It folks she'd see me now sitting in my hotel room in lovely, central Phoenix. It would be me standing up, giving you a standing ovation for the fine job you did last week when pain and I apparently opted to take the week off and see the best college football game of the year in person. You know what? I did the whole hashtag no days off, but if you had told me beforehand that you guys would see one of the best college games, forget just of this year, but probably the last decade, maybe ever. I would have said, you know what, maybe there's an extenuating circumstances where you could in that once in a decade type situation, take a week off of work. So kudos to you guys for seeing. And enjoying and taking in that great game. You know what was funny about it, Brad and pain and I kind of joked about it during our time in Knoxville as people asked us how far before the season we booked a trip and we said we started to assess the SEC schedule back in, I don't know, pain what it was late May, early June, figure out dates. And people, including those wearing tennis orange looked at us like we had three eyes going, wait, you thought this was going to be one of the more impactful SEC games. And we kind of indicated that sometimes a plan can come together when you do the homework ahead of time. So all three of us being in agreement that this was going to be one of the best seasons that Tennessee had put together came to fruition into your point. Outstanding to be a part of that atmosphere, although pain and I were not aggressive enough to help throw those Tennessee goalposts into the Tennessee river. I was wondering, I was looking for you guys.

College Football: Who Has the Primetime Game After Oklahoma Mess Up?

"Oklahoma screwed it up. I'm going to the game. I wasn't going to go to the game because I have a wedding in Dallas that night. And there was 11, so now I'm going. However, I mean, you know how that shit works. The TV network said it. So if Oklahoma would have won, they would have been the prime time game. It would have both been undefeated. They would have been the prime time game. But because Oklahoma choked, they played 11 o'clock. It's just how it works. So who's the prime time game next week with for this week with big dwell? I don't know. We're prime Simon freaking Europe, though, but I don't know who the hell. I get probably. Well, let me just with all this with all this nails research that we do. All the time on this pod. Let me just tell you the prime time. It's okay. We don't really care. It's not really. Well, no, don't worry about it. They put, oh, actually they put the two shittiest teams. West Virginia, Texas. So I don't know what's going on. Of course. The best game, the best game is Oklahoma state at Baylor. That's pretty good. There are 8 point dogs. TC is a 6 and a half point dog at home. 11 a.m., rise and shine. ABC.

Will the PGA Become the Golfing 'B' League?

"Do you think? Do you think that the PGA Tour in 2023? Will be the B leagues? No. There's still a more player. Just because of sheer amounts of players, like not everybody's going to go to the live tour, right? I mean, if everybody went to the live tour, yes. Yes, but I mean, I know Tiger is not in his prime anymore, but he's still going to play some tourneys. I would guess, right? That's massive radius. He probably will. Like it was a disappointing. It started off amazing. He made his first two cuts in those first two majors. I mean, absolutely incredible, but you know, we're going to see Tiger play with Charlie in December again or whenever that father something is and it's going to freaking it's such a tease. What's that? It's such a tease. Isn't it? Yeah, but I'm just saying. It's going to be like it's going to be like the highest rated event in all of the, you know, except for the majors, probably in golf again, because people want to watch it. I'm just saying that dude, that dude, single handed, he is the needle, like exclusively is still. And then you're going to have the Rory's and more call was. All these guys, whatever, all the guys that said no way in hell I'm not going. So there's always going to be enough of those guys. And then not every young guy can go to live, right? They're going to try to this eugenio. I don't know how to save his last name, but the kid from Oklahoma state, right? Sure, Kara. Yeah, whatever. He still had eligibility Oklahoma state and he took the cash and left. I mean, they're going to sprinkle in some dudes like that, but the young, young, young guys. Now with court ferry tour having more money and they go to Q school for access. It's because of sheer volume to answer your question, right? They're just going to have more players, period. In general, and they'll develop the players in their get better and then maybe you'll see those guys go over there, which I'm sure will happen. So do I see it as the B tour? I mean, not in the next 20 years or something. It's different though. It's totally different product. It's just totally different product, man.

And I step up on the T and I look around and there's probably 50 college coaches. I mean, no less than 50. And 49 of them were for Rickie Fowler. And then the chuck with chuck was over here. Let's go JP. They had the local juco guy out there for Petey just like he was close. He's like, I've never been in Rancho Santa Fe. I'm not allowed. I might as well go out here and we'll pretend I'm watching somebody. Yeah, Philip Francis. I just looked it up. Dude, he won. Phillip Francis won this, yeah. I would do that. "Dead leg, what's the in one game? You said ten to 16 pounds worth of Turkey? That's a legit Turkey, my friend. Big Turkey. They don't play around. They're not playing around. This is the Zion Zion Williamson of turkeys we're talking about. I feel like the Zion Williamson what are we even discussing? I feel like the Zion Williamson of turkeys is more like north of 23 pounds. So what the hell do I know? I'm a pescetarian. All right, you think pack 12 networks a problem? 5th game. Why don't they put the pack 12 network on truTV? Does nobody ever thought about that? I mean, just move the backflow of network the true TV. Friday night. Am I the only one with the brain? 9 o'clock eastern. BYUtv. I think I have it. You do? I'm certain I have it. Oh, man. I can watch this, no problem. Well, I don't have any idea where it is, but I got it. I'm certain I have it. I don't know if I don't know if you got in that Manhattan hotel room. I don't have it here in Spokane. But normally, if you were at home, sure. You'd have it. Yeah. Watching this tonight for us. Although I'm in West Coast conference territory for all I know, BYUtv's like, it comes on before I get to the CBS and big channels here. CVS, by the way, is the network of stars. America's most watched network. We got a mountain west throwback rematch here. San Diego state of the mountain west going to play its former MWC foe, BYU. It's 9 o'clock tip on BYUtv. Ken palm line, I had the Ken palm line. I don't have the actual line up in front of me here. Didn't know if it was going to be out at this hour. So we're just going with Ken palm line. BYU. Minus two at home, they are 39th at Ken palm, San Diego state is 33rd. Who you get. As much as I love San Diego state. We know that. I'm gonna have to go with the cougars. You can't go into the Marriott center on the opening weekend of the season and win a game? What are we talking about? Jimmer fredette center, by the way, forgot to mention that. You can't go in. You can not go into the Fred center on a Friday night in November and win. What are you even trying? Who even scheduled this? I think both teams scheduled it. If you're looking for a factually accurate response, I think both teams did. Well, only one team should have. Okay. That team being BYU, of course. Okay. So you're going to take BYU to win and cover. Alex, what do you mean, Alex barcelo and the other team does not? It's true. It's true. What have you played for both teams, though? You get confusing. Don't even. Just get confused. That's like putting tax involve network on tru TV. It gets a little confusing. That should happen. Okay. That should happen. You see riverside getting a lot of love on this episode because San Diego is opened at season on Tuesday with a 13 point win over UC riverside, BYU coming off an opening win against a tournament team from last season. They beat Cleveland state by ten. You mentioned barcelo. He was 13 of 13 from the line in that game, 404 from two range in one of two from three, just again. I do it all player. He was too lowly ranked on our top 100. I tried to tell you guys, but what do you want from me? BYU leads the all time series 49 to 24 against San Diego state, but that's of course anyway, it was basically terrible until Steve Fisher got there at the end of the 20th century. And since then, the program has been much, much better. I will take this is a good game. This is we got a couple sneaky good ones here. We got two main headliners, but we've got some sneaky good ones here on the opening weekend of the season. You will take the cougars and so will I at home in this environment. I don't know what the fan situation was last season at the fredette center by the time we got to February. I just can't recall if one of those deals where they had some people limited capacity and masks if they had nobody. But I know this. I haven't been there. You want to talk about places I haven't been to. This would be top 5. Get to get out to Provo and see this kind of game. That's for sure. I've never been out. I've been there. I've walked inside that place. You have launched inside the Marriott center for that center as we were here. You can't come out the front center. You have to name it. We established years ago. That is renamed for that for that guy that kicked out of school because he had premarital sex. Oh, remember him? Yeah, but I thought, come on, man. Davis, right? Why are you doing this to me? Trivia time. How many played with jimmer? So what year was that? Was it that long ago? Brandon Davies? Brandon Brandon Davies, Brandon Davies. I thought he got the floor. No, he gets the whole center. Well, someone gets the court. Jumper for that court. You named the arena. Now that might not be him. I don't know if that's him. Brandon Davies it is him. Your shirts, Sam? You sure that is the man who had premarital sex? Yeah, I'm pretty. First, do I have evidence? No. Do I want evidence? No. Would it be appropriate to have evidence? No. But it was Brandon Davies. 99% sure. Yes. You know, you know, 1% chance, it's not. My apologies, but also my genuine pity and empathy for Brandon Davies for not having premarital sex, but I do believe that it was him. It's a tough situation. It's a tough situation to find yourself in. I think it was Brandon Davies. How we swerve in it? To the small faction of listeners who have children Nintendo want to listen to this podcast. Our deepest apologies for how you know, we can't listen. There's just gonna be.

"And memorable in violation of old NCA rules. Best I can tell, he did this in June. If he would have done it in July, it's not an issue. But because he did it in June, it was at the time of violation of NCAA rules and the punishment will be a three game suspension. And so, you know, the timing, the young man had poor timing. And I understand why people are fed up with it, like, come on. What are we doing? He's an all American and you're taking them out of it for what? But if you wanted to argue the other side of it, it was June 2021. There were roles in place, even if the rules were about to be changed. And, you know, he broke the rules. And arguing that the rules changed after the fact, I don't, you know, it's just not a very good argument. Well, there's a lot of context around this and to anyone that wants to compare Mark fuse suspension versus Kofi coburn versus Jalen Wilson. They are different situations being dictated by different factors. Jalen Wilson was a coach, athletic director decision. Mark few was a university president war decision. And this is an NCAA decision. They're not remotely the same. And remember, now remember this because it seems to many people bring this up. Not that it excuses. I'm just trying to give you more background as to why all of this happened. Kofi coburn was no surefire thing to return and play for Illinois this season. The fact that he has puts Illinois in the conversation for preseason top ten team and, you know, maybe the best team in the Big Ten and all that. But Kofi coburn was gonna maybe go to the NBA. And then he was in the transfer portal. So for Kofi cobra and GP, he might have been done at this point when he was doing this. I know he was like still considering Illinois, but like, at this point, like what he was doing, he was like, I don't know if I'll ever play there again. Why not? I get it happen why it happened. Here's what here's what brought Underwood said. When the release came out on Monday, we are disappointed with the three game suspension because there were unprecedented factors and altered timelines, love me some altered timelines GP. Multi universe theory. Here we go. Underwood continues related to his decision to ultimately withdraw from the NBA draft and return to school. Once Kofi had a full understanding of where he stood regarding the draft, he made an educated decision to return to school, work toward his degree and continue improving his game. That said, we understand and respect the NCAA's decision in this matter. And we will move forward accordingly. As always, Kofi's attitude and outlook remain upbeat and positive. He is focused on helping his teammates prepare for the season. And we can't wait to have him rejoin us on the court. I think Illinois got off easy. And I don't say that meaning, I believe Illinois that coburn should have had a longer suspension or anything like that. I'm saying, I think the answer to a look at this case, all the details involved with it. And otherwise, might have had grounds to suspend him for 6 or even 9 games or ten games, otherwise. The fact that it is just three games in Atlanta, when it landed, I think, is actually probably I'm going to criticize the incident at the start of the podcast and maybe give it a little bit of a dap here at the end. I could see a situation where if it wasn't right up on July 2021, parish when the rules changed. And if we were still kind of in that in between, what's really going to happen deal? This would have been a longer suspension, depending on the gear and how much he sold it for, et cetera, et cetera. And I also don't think this is going to matter. I think Illinois is going to win all those games. It's got two small schools and marquette. Now marquette will be a little tricky, but they're gonna be down this season and I think Illinois without coburn is good enough to be the golden eagles. We'll wait and see. But I don't actually think the suspension is going to matter to Illinois in the win loss column. But as always, I reserve the right to be quite wrong. I don't think it'll matter either. I think they'll still start three O and it'll fly by. And then you'll look up and he'll be ripping rims off the backboard very quickly. If you listen to this podcast, you know, I hate the rules. I hated I've always hated those rules. I hate all the rules. I hate every rule. But like, you know, you broke the rule and there is typically a price to pay for that. And so it is what it is. It reminds me a little bit not to get too serious again. But. One of these things is a very serious issue. The other not really. I don't mean to come across like I'm comparing the two. It's just something that popped into my head as I was watching people discuss this. The Ahmad Arbery case down in Georgia is getting ready to go to trial. And I was listening to a podcast about it because that's actually the type of podcast that listened to. I don't listen to sports podcasts at all. I was listening to a podcast about that. Because on a surface level, it was like, okay, this should be a rap. Like, you know, three white men chased down an unarmed black man who was jogging. Wanted a rifle Adam and shot him. It's on video. Like, this is easy. And what you find out, according to experts, it's not easy, because of Georgia law at the time of that shooting, killing. There is actually a reasonable chance. These men are not going to be convicted of murder. Based on what the way the law was written at the time. But what's interesting is that this is like the one thing Republicans and Democrats can agree on anywhere, especially in Georgia, is that that video of his killing was so.

"They've moved to florida. Go to img academy. They just leave. The state in continued high highschool ball. Still make money off the and then make money themselves like texas has got to figure this out because listen the trains already going down. There ain't no stopping this all now and again. Look here we go here. We go unintended consequences. I bet you the guys who devised name image likeness and said okay. We're going to do this. It's time these collegiate. Athletes need to be able to benefit off of their names images and likenesses. We all said it's going to start. Impacting recruiting dramatically. It's going to filter to the high school level. What nobody thought of. At least i mean look. I'm not the sharp tool in the shed. But i didn't consider it that a young man like that. Who has that much talent is like. Oh you're not gonna let me. I'm out see you. The unintended consequences for him for his high school program. Also for highest state like ryan is not going to come out and say it but he doesn't. He doesn't want him to do this. He doesn't want him to enroll early. No way dude. It's the last thing. Ohio state once. It's crazy to think that is why travis. Because there's no way ryan day holds onto all that talent. It is not happening. You would have four freshman. Altogether to potentially three are leaving now. You gotta go back and find a quarterback in the twenty to class. Because you're twenty. Twenty quarterback moved up is now twenty one and old. I think it's like the top thirty thirty five quarterbacks of all committed for the twenty class. Yeah i mean and look to into into day. Defense to to ohio state defense in this climate you. You're not going to go to the young man and say hey. We want you to stay in school. We went to stay in high school because then he'll be like all right. I'm going to going to la art. If y'all i'm out i'll go i'll go play for davos wayne year. I'll go play for auto play for clay hilton. All call up coach. Oh you know like yeah right right. Bt our baby fired up it's already crazy with the transfer portal and seeing players on the move united to study this. And i'm remiss dear listeners. I'm sorry i'm remissed. I need to look up. How many players are in the portal with no home thousands. If you go into the portal. Don't know your your exit. That's not good most of the player or considering going into the portal. Then you don't have a home mack. Jones just look at mack jones. Okay the the the dude comes out of nowhere kentucky. He is sitting behind jalen hurts to lower and worked in any work similar. Oh okay they're bringing in a five star out of california named brice young he's gonna take your job to know i'm gonna keep working a work more okay. I'm gonna end up winning every single thing. I could win except for the heisman trophy and i'll go twenty first in the draft bill. Belichick and i started one year in college. I mean think about the other name not as big but kyle. Trask cal trask. That's what i would always. I would tell players if you graduate in three years and you haven't played and you want that chance your degree. It's all off the table. Then you can do whatever you want to do but these kids that are leaving after their first year like what are you doing. yeah kyle. Trask is a great call. Because for those of you. Who don't kyle story it's unbelievable. Cow is from texas. He grew up and did not start a high school game. Okay he played behind the air kane. Who's currently the university of miami's quarterback by way of houston.

"Could he'd have he'd have to do it online classroom fast but he can. Do they have to do online real fast. Okay we'll look it's going to change because now you're talking about one of the most talent rich states in the country and one of the most recognizable talents in that state in the country deciding potentially deciding. I'm outta here. Because i got you. Look at bryce young okay. Brian's got a million bucks on the table he's never started a football game yet at the collegiate level and so kids like yours are going to be wearing him to patrick. Mahomes outta here man. I was watching some highlights of his. And i'm not sure when it was it must have been last season. Maybe and one of the talent analysts was discussing his ability his His precision a as a passer his accuracy as a passer. And how how good he is and man. He got hit right in the chin and dropped it in a book from thirty five yards forty and so if he does go to ohio state. Y'all got to five stars at the same. No right I think we have three five stars. That stupid pantani get off the couch. Get off the couch fantoni. You not doing your job bro. For those guys who don't know who that is it's mark dantonio. Who is the player personnel director at the ohio state university and a great friend of the show. None from the state of ohio. One from california one from arizona one from pennsylvania one from texas. Wow the other. The other implication with texas in Does is you could see players leaving early but you can also see players freshman early in their high school career..

"Ismi esp espn. Plus i mean. Yeah but here's the thing like it's it's very it's fundamental here man. Follow the money All you gotta do is follow the money. The sec is a in insanely lucrative entity I feel like with espn Now owning the future rights to broadcast the sec game of the week it only grows stronger and as a result of that More lucrative for the universities involved and so follow the money halls. It's always the money now one other thing. You've referenced it on one of year hits. I think it might have been a sports hit with when you're talking about coach gundy the hair maine's got good hair. I don't how majestic is in person. Okay that's a really good point. I so is very rare. That i'll walk into a room and i look at another dudes hair and go woo way competition today. But that thing. On top of gundy's head man. I mean okay. So he lost the mullet. he lost the mullet. But there's like a. I mean he's got some ball going on the it it is it is like always like yeah i mean it's like a squeegee There man like you that thing. It's definitely got its own definitely got its own deal going on a lot like mine and i could tell that i mean i looked at him and said it's very rare that i find any level of intimidation when i look at another man's head of hair but son things like a chia pet mean he's the. Og yet you right he is he is the oj he was i so i think that he's the person that brought back the mullet trend. Yeah you know a lot of people. Give morgan wallin a lot of credit for that teddy and silas our boys down coastal carolina. You know that they definitely were ahead of the curve Your boy your boy quinn. You're what's his name. Yours your boy quinn yours. I don't know what's going on there. Man it looks like a skunk died on top. At boy's head will so for those that don't know the name number one Wheel twenty two class potentially twenty hundred again to that in a second down at southlake carroll think is where he plays in texas. It's a tradition where they bleached their hair for the football team but he just hasn't went away from it and also a rock and a mullet. I mean might be. He's the number one player in the twenty two class and he's come out and said there's a chance they he's reclassifying going to graduate early flap to columbus this month and enroll a Because you didn't say why because a lot of money in an i. l. because he's the number one player in the country and excess is one of the states that will not allow high school players to make money off the all state of all states. Texas i call. I call my brother who lives down there and he answers it and i didn't say hello just. I thought y'all care about football. What i said. I've told you care about full down there in texas. He's like we're talking about like you won't let high school players make money off their name. Image likeness we all do in texas. You just joined a conference with the slogan. It just means more. Apparently it doesn't in your state. Yeah you gotta imagine that at some point really soon. That's going to change. Because the main if especially if quinn is able to go ahead and do this or decides to go ahead and do this And he's already travis..

"Them if i was the acc. I might have said this on here last week. I think i did. If i was the acc. I'd be going after. Oklahoma state west virginia and notre dame. And it's just going to be it's going to be fascinating to see how all of this unfolds. What we don't know yet is what if some other university who's already affiliated with something you know we keep hearing all these clemson florida state rumors floating around. What if they are affiliated universities who decided to defect. Well it's just going to be. You know it's a maybe i made affiliated might be the wrong word entrenched in branched is a work because the next five years is going to be the craziest also most important five years in college sports history. Big a window. In my opinion. I think that's too big a window. I think five years. Who the hell knows what's going to happen from now until you mean we end of big twelve deal. Yeah yeah bad is going to be huge and what happens. I just don't so so. If bob boles be the commissioner of the big twelve conference takes all eight remaining members right and he circles the proverbial wagons. What can he do from a media rights perspective. That could be revolutionary. If i were him that's where i'd be thinking. I wanna go do something that nobody else is doing. And and go from there they also they need to find two more program. They've got to get at least ten. You gotta get to you. Can't i don't know it's a. It's like i mean maybe if. Smu can keep growing. You can go down there and get. But they've got to find a way. Now it'll be the other interesting thing is how do all the people that carry voting assay handle the cfpb expansion because you gene. Smith's kind of saying let's pump the brakes and see what's going on and not. Se's you know gabby wanting more now. I love greg sankey. Though he came out was like listen four was we. We're before everyone else clamoring for more. We're good with four. You want more. We can do more. And we'll get more teams in. I mean it's a golly. What what an unbelievable paradigm.

"On ziprecruiter dot com today and put ziprecruiter to work for you. Travis there's a lot done pack. And i know everybody involved in college football all the fans certainly the fans impacted by the decision are trying to figure out what's next even those who are not directly impacted by the decision like yourself wonder okay. What does this mean for my school and my schools conference. Are we going to add teams to the big ten. What's going to happen with the pac twelve or the big ten in the pack. Twelve gonna become a super conference. Everybody's just throwing goose pu against the wall right now trying to figure out the scenarios that make the most sense and i felt like coach gundy so i didn't know how he was going to react. I didn't know if he was going to be angry. I didn't know if he was going to miffed. I didn't know. I mean. I didn't know what to expect because let me tell you about that man. You heard him say it right there. I like to know where you stand. I want you to know where i stand. And that's one thing. I've always admired about him. I had never met him until. I walked in the building the other day and to add to it. Everyone's still processing us because it's up for most people. It's happened so fast that people are still trying to figure out everything that's going involved and then trying to talk about it and it's it's not an easy thing to just have an answer for there and look and in a lot of cases there are no answers yet. There are no answers yet because we just don't know and you know the whole so it's funny to me. We brought up on mardi mcgee. The other day coach saving told us at at media days the unintended consequences portion of all of this. Whether it's in iowa whether it's portal a playoff expansion might end up at seventeen games. It's the most transitionary time in the history of the sport and so i felt like coach gandhi. He was very honest but very measured because like everybody else. He surprised that this unfold. You heard him say at there okay. But he does feel good specifically to oklahoma state. I think it applies to like the ohio states the notre dame's etcetera if you have a track record of success sustained winning seasons that type of thing and certainly tremendous financial backing from donor ship. Then you're probably going to. You're going to be in a pretty good spot. Two things really were revelatory to me number one. That coach gandhi said he believes the goal of the league is to stay intact until twenty four. I and he believes that's going to happen now. Is there gonna be a power for he said. Hey in my opinion vows in behind closed doors. I'd say that's a probability now. The other part. That really intrigued me was the money. The big twelve Money that comes in from the big twelve network and and whatnot. Espn plus and then the money. That's generated from n. Stadium revenue and all of those things to me hearing the numbers. Come out of his mouth made me go okay. It's very interesting but the bottom line is to me. I just don't think anybody knows what this means yet. Other than the southeastern conference has added to absolute monster brands in the world of collegiate football collegiate athletics to their resume to their to their a list of attributes. I don't know man The sec lot stronger. I think is what i think travis. The one good thing for gundy end. The oklahoma state program is while they are not oklahoma. They are a good enough program that they can make conference better. And so they will they will they will be. They will be valued program to go after and then because of their location they they can go anywhere. I mean if i'm the big ten. I'm going after them in iowa state like yesterday. I'm going after them if i was the acc. I might have said this on here last week. I think i did. If i was the acc. I'd be going after. Oklahoma state west virginia and notre dame. And it's just going to be it's going to be fascinating to see how all of this unfolds. What we don't know yet is what if some other university.

"That commissioner bowls be sent a season letter to espn asking them to or requiring or requesting that they stop contacting schools about any sort of realignment. What was your response to the fact that he sent that letter. Well truthfully the it was three or four five senses in most of the words. I couldn't understand. I look up in the dictionary. That's a strong point but all that stuff is way over my head. We as a university as the eight members presidents athletic director and head. Football coaches have to trust that. He's making the best decision with his committee for us to move forward with the group whatever direction they wanna go. Sometimes we can't control things. We can't control so we have to trust. He's doing the right thing. I have no idea what any of that meant. And i was asked a question about thirteen times yesterday. You were and what i said. Is this that between the commissioner. His group the president's and the athlete directors. They all have to get together and they have to get a game plan to say. This is what's best for the future. Twenty twenty four day here that oklahoma state university for everybody certainly with k. cunningham the presumptive number one pick in the nba draft. When you have that kind of talent here and it brings that kind of awareness to the university. What's that meaning university. Also and you know. I'm going to go back to what we said. In most cases the three people. I mentioned that are marketable for the school. Like when we when we play really well here in football. Our enrollment goes when When coach sutton was here and we were in the final four enrollment went up. People like winners people like success and people love athletics and with cade being here and being in the position he is right now. That only takes this logo and it brands us markets us even more and i don't know him really well i don't i wasn't around him a lot and they're when they're working. We're working but i hear fantastic things about him as a person that he's humble and i know i watched some games on tv and plays real good pretty good. Yeah he he and you know when he plays the best is when he gets towards the latter part. I and i'm speaking out of turn here. Because i don't know jack about basketball except if it goes in it's a good thing. He plays his best toward the end. And i think. I watched him sometimes and he's young and so early she's playing you know and then when when it got time i don't know how many times toward the end of the game say just said. Hey take it over. And he took it over. That's really what the nba is right. Somebody's gotta take the game over. So i'm very proud of him. I'm very proud of his accomplishments. And i think it's an awesome branding opportunity for him. Oklahoma athletics and oklahoma state university. That he's going to be the first player picked when it comes to looking for a job most people would probably agree the whole experience not phone filling out resumes writing. Cover letters filling out profiles all at miss. None of it's any fun at all but it doesn't have to be that way. Ziprecruiter gets it in fact they've actually figured out ways to.

"I think we're going to see a direction of a realignment that could last for a while because of all the television money that's going to be poured into it because that's the one thing that is going to always be there as you and i talked about. People still live sports. Okay they wanna watch things live. They want to hear what you guys are on the sideline saying people live by that and that's the entertainment. We have more so than what it used to be hundred years ago when we were growing up as kids or maybe not you but me you got me by a few years. That's right from your perspective. What's the best case scenario for oklahoma state. Again i go back to. I'm not concerned one bit about oklahoma state. Somebody that's a lot smarter than me or multiple people that are lost smarter than me that deal with television contracts the long term stability financially because again. Sometimes i get in trouble by stepping out there. That's what this comes down to right so chad. Wiberg is our athletic director. He's been on the job. Twenty seven days h had welcome to the real world so he has to pay bills. We generate around forty million dollars a year. Give or take through. Big twelve network. Basketball makes four million. Footballs the other thirty six. Whatever i'm asked not real good but And then you have your money that you make in your stadium selling tickets and sweets okay. So it's right around seventy eight million give or take then that has to cover the athletic department and so that's his job and to keep all the sports up and running but also until facilitate football which has to be pristine aid if not pristine in planet high level. You don't get that chance. In my opinion. I mean if i was coaching another sport i would still be able to admit that. And so the best case scenario in my opinion for oklahoma state university and whether we like it or not the president university the athletic director and head. Football coach are the three most recognizable and three most marketable people on a college campus. That's my opinion and so somebody will make that decision of what's best to continue the tradition. We have we've won like forty plus national championships here in sports. Okay so there's a lot to market but ultimately we need to be pristine. We need to be very competitive and football to sell those television dollars. Somebody will make a decision. What's the best way to financially. Put oklahoma state in a position to continue where it's been now. Hopefully we're going to be in the same boat for the next four years up through the end of twenty four. That's the plan at this point. I found it interesting..

"Coach will start with one of the biggest news stories in college football in some time the texas and oklahoma or leaving the big twelve conference. What's your reaction to all this unfolded. I think like everybody else. It was surprise. I'm just thankful that we have great. Leadership dr. shrum chad wiberg. I have complete faith in them as well as the other presidents eighties in this league and i talked about it walking around the building. Everybody needs to get together and come up with a really good solid plan in think in the future oklahoma state. I think we're in great shape. We look at our track record. Were top ten in the country and wins over the last decade. We have fifteen winning seasons in a row fifteen bowls in a row tremendous success and you know this year in the business in the end it's all about. Are you successful in football and it. Can you sell television money. And i think that's what it comes down to. We can talk about a lot of things but ultimately that's what it comes down to. I think we're in great shape. But me i was surprised just like everybody else so i was gonna follow. You say you guys are in great shape but pointedly. What do you think this means for. Oklahoma state football. Well i wish. I knew like vista with a staff. As far as i think anybody that says they really know the future is maybe stepping out of line. That could be even the highest up at this point. The goal from what i hear is that this league stays intact through twenty four and at that we all know that there could be teams that are looking to go somewhere else. I'm not going to get involved in that. Because i think businesses business unfortunately at times in our profession there is a bid side of business. But i know that oklahoma state has had tremendous success. And when you look at where. We've been from the viewer standpoint over a long period of time people like watching oklahoma state football and there's continuity here not to pump mountain tires but i'm seventeen years here. The people in this program been here longtime we're stable Were a good product. And i think we're very marketable you said it can't predict the future but what what's your perspective on what this moment might mean for the big twelve future again. I wish i knew you hear people talk about. Ultimately there's going to be a power four in my opinion if i was in meetings or behind closed doors would i say that that's a probability i'd say yes again. Somebody else might make that decision. Could there be teams that jump in and say we're gonna continue as power five. I think that's marketable I think the television. Espn they're gonna have a big big say in that they're the ones that are representing television dollars and they make those decisions and i think at some point the leaders. We'll get together and say hey look this is what we have if this is what you will offer us if not it might be something else ultimately. That's who's going to make the decisions in my opinion. You're university prison dr. Casey shrum was very outspoken. Look recently with comments about. Oh you specifically in those schools leaving the conference. How did you react to her. Well i think people know for me. I like people to be very upfront and like people to be blind. I'd like to know where you stand. And i want you to know where i stand. So i've only known her for a short period of time maybe less than a month. I've had long conversations with her I like her. i think she's tough. I think she believes in oklahoma state. I think she's innovative. And let's just put it this way. I don't know how far that we're going to get in life in society today taking a backseat and sitting there and letting other people direct traffic. I think you have to get out front from what she shown me. She's not scared to do that. She's willing to say look worldcom state. We have a tremendous product sale. We want people to come and look at us no matter what direction. We're going name. Image likeness realignment in conferences. Twelve team college football playoff the wild west. That is a transfer portal. What is it like to lead. in this moment. I think that for me. I can only speak for myself and for our staff. I'm not a micromanager We had a two hour staff meeting. Yesterday i offered my opinion on all the subjects. And then i want feedback from the sixteen guys are in the staff room with me. You tell me your opinion. i'm going to give you my opinion on what's best for young people to continue the winning program. We've had here for seventeen years. Times are changing technology. We've talked about phones My i have a sixteen nineteen and twenty four. And i know you have children a little bit younger. They don't get information is much from parents. Teachers and coaches like we used to get information from bones. So how do we direct really quality information to them when we get them face to face because the ones that are here the one hundred and thirty that are playing here. We have them. We can talk to them. We can instill things in them to keep things going the way it is so we all have to understand the name image. This that's the way. It is not changing even if the ncaa or somebody wanted to regulate it your federal. Legislators they're going to regulate so it's out of your hands. The twelve team playoff. I think there has been suggestions. I mentioned in eighteen playoff. Maybe five or six years ago Sometimes people like my idea. Sometimes they don't but my concern with the twelve team is how many games you actually gonna play so the seventeen. Well these guys still are college students. Okay and so. You're kind of contradicting yourself. A little bit based on. We're gonna protect their bodies their wellbeing and whether we like it or not mardi a lot of what we do. Today is young man starting in high school working their way up to our level they're ultimately wanting one go after they graduate from oklahoma state. They wanna play professionally and make money playing this game which represents their name image and likeness even more maybe a higher value. We can act like that's not a factor in my opinion. It's huge factor. So we started protecting our players bodies about ten years ago. We're way ahead of this. You know they changed pre practice for august where there's less contact not as many hours out there and such. We didn't have to alter anything we were already doing that. But it's even going to move forward more so i'm not sure that we can handle a twelve team because ultimately you know who has the voice now more than they ever had before is the players. Sure and they're going to speak up on that in my opinion. Now i'm not gonna make those choices. I'm gonna follow that lead so by being a member of it But i think the players will have a voice in all those areas and it'll be interesting over the next six to eight months..

"Hey y'all welcome to the maurice. Miss america podcast volume one hundred something ancient on towards two hundred. I had an interesting week last week. I went down to stillwater oklahoma and the reason that i went to stillwater. Oklahoma was because cage. Cunningham became the first oklahoma state cowboy in the history of the men's basketball program to be drafted number one overall in the nba draft by the detroit pistons. In fact he's just the second athlete in the history of the osu athletic program to go number one. A guy named bob anymore when number one in the nfl draft in nineteen forty seven. Wire you pointing at me. Did i already screw something up. Let's refer to it as the oklahoma state program. Os what's just get that. So let me tell you guys about. Osu okay. I've never been there travis. Odd never been down stillwater. You know. i've been blessed to. We've been all over the country to amazing universities and campuses. But i had never been to. I've been to norman ton you've been to their best friends place because of Covering baker mayfield cuyler murray jalen hurts everything. Lincoln riley has built down there in. Norman never been to stillwater hell. I didn't even know where it was. I mean i had to look at the map figure out which airport i should fly into so a fly into o'casey on the evening of the twenty eight stayed in okay see And as we began the process of putting together how we were going to cover the draft party at eskimo joe's and you guys haven't been there and you're going to stillwater. Make sure you go by there stan. Everybody involved at that. It's iconic it's one of those campus halts that is iconic to that university. It is awesome there. Are they known for like some cheese fries or something. They claim the world's greatest cheese fries. And i will tell you did not disappoint. I ate them on. Live national television Right before the nba draft began on abc. Now let me back up a minute so as my producer. Melinda adams and i are preparing for this party. They were thrown a party for the basketball team so they could watch their brother be drafted and and do so together. Enjoy a nice evening out. have some most cheese fries and watch cade go number one now obviously the big story in all of sport and i say that again like it's the it's the middle of the olympics and in our world in our zip code. The biggest story in sports is that now. Oklahoma and texas are officially headed to the sec. They are going to join the southeastern conference. And so i thought okay. Well wait a minute. Oklahoma state is in the big twelve. They are directly impacted by the decision of oklahoma and texas to leave the big twelve conference in head of the sec. What's that mean. And who are the most outspoken people in that conference will oklahoma state head coach. Mike gundy just happens to be one of those people again. I'd never met coach gundy. I got hooked up with coach. Gundy bama amazing mentor gordon whitener. Who is he coached at oklahoma state. Back in the day he is. He's a legit like american cowboy. He's the marlboro man. Gordon is so gordon. Hook me up with gundy gundy's all in we go down there. I drive over from oklahoma city. The morning of the twenty ninth and Right around just past dawn. And i'm driving down the highway on thinking about okay. What am i gonna ask. This guy house is going to go. And i'm gonna tell some travis and by the way guys will I did a thirteen or so minute interview with coach. Gundy ask coach gonna his perspective on everything that happened. What it means for the big twelve. What it means for oklahoma state and the fact is we just don't know those answers yet we just don't and so y'all hear that in a minute but before we get to the interview. I just want to say that. I walked into the football facility. So i got to boone. Pick and stadium and melinda and the communication staff from oklahoma state. Were waiting on me. Because i got lost. Of course. I was at the wrong end of the stadium. You're supposed to go. The west end of the stadium was east. Is there anything more confusing than going to a new college campus and trying to get around the facility. It's kind of confusing But i mean look at say is confusing but the west end of the stadium is like i mean. There's all these flags flying this gorgeous entrance. And i was on the other side of field oscillating so we go inside walk into the lobby and were standing in the football lobby there and just just hanging out and i mean it is they have this As as you know. Travis these days you walk into the lobbies of power five football facilities and it's not like a random board room looking experience like a museum. It's a museum and boys. Oklahoma state a museum. There are all of the the awards. Go all the way down the hallway. There's there's just like gory graphics. Everywhere there's led boards everywhere play and highlights stay mannequins with like all the different uniforms. They wear cleats all the bowl trophies. Yeah all the different the a ride the vast array of uniform combinations right and over in the corner as you as you walk into your left around the corner is barry sanders heisman. Trophy and i geek out. I mean on nerd out on having the opportunity to see the heisman trophy. Same thing at notre dame. When i go there you go to. Usc it's like a whole lana of them. So so i go over there. And i'm like studying berries heisman and then i come. I'm kind of walking back and coach gundy walks out of his office says hello. He's like crap dude. You're dressed for church. He's got on a polo pair jeans. Of course. I had were suit because espn travis. That man took me in introduced me to his assistant his admin who is a wonderfully lovely lady who he goes. This is the. Gm don't get it twisted. She runs a whole program and then he he. He took me in his office and then he grabbed me and we will do he toward me around. The entire facility introduced me to coach glass the strength and conditioning guru there who knows a bunch of my friends and we i mean. We sat there and a weight room Gorgeous weight room for probably twenty or twenty five minutes solving all the problems in college football. Were you just wishing that you had some Jim closer you get a few reps reps in their at their facility. Thought about book shirts. A little tight so it might have popped a button or to. You can't be working out in your suits because those are those are too tight for you to be doing any sort of physical activity. That i ever tell you the brent venables story from nows all by myself okay. So are its tangent. Time ladies and gentlemen several years ago. When i was two thousand sixteen. I'm not sure the year but it was. When lamar jackson and the louisville cardinals came to Clemson to play deshaun watson and the clemson tigers and it was one of the greatest football games i've ever seen and we went there and in the morning we're doing all the live shots for sportscenter for college game day for this network and that network and afterwards we had a whole day to do basically nothing because the game didn't kick off. It was the abc night game. I mean i think it was a eight. Pm kickoff for something you got plenty of time so my goal was now that i'm hopped up on coffee after college game day. I'm going to give a workout in right now. So change clothes get outta my suit. Get into some shorts and a tee shirt in the clemson white room. That's one thing that's so cool. Is that they just allow us to go in an air pump. Our get are running on a treadmill. You know it's a it's a national championship level facility. And so we're in there doing thing. I am underneath the bar. And i have. I don't know like hundred seventy five pounds on air. Maybe one hundred eighty five pounds. And i'm laying there and i'm like getting myself ready. You know heavy breathing all the sudden. I almost have my eyes closed. I'm like gardner. Snuck yourself you ready ball. And i look up and like brent venables lathered up yelling at me. Make sure i'm ready to go. Kickoff kickoff is like eight hours away and that dude is full ladder. Ready to go. I love that stuff he is. He's one of those coaches that you just feel like main lines red bull. That man cannot like. I love it. He can't it he doesn't turn it off like it's it's something about the defensive coaches because for high state kerry combs like seventy years old or something doesn't he's always the most energized person on the field. It's at something about those defensive coaches. they're like a few fries short of a happy meal and they're just like kodjo bro. I don't know how they do it..
