"What's on your mind in the world of horse racing? Did you have a big score last weekend? Is there a horse that you are keying on this weekend? We'd love to hear from you on the brisnet dot com call and show 8 8 8 9 6 6 four 7 7 6 8 8 8 9 6 6 hr and Friedman with James Scully. Let's go out to the phone lines, Tom and St. Louis. Dave and James, starting the Thursday, happy hour with you, gentlemen. How are you today? Outstanding. Really good, Tom. Good, good. Before I get to things, I kind of want to agree with James on one thing and take it a step farther. I think speakers corners the definite play against this week. And I also look sometimes in the first step, usually on Thursday as I do the first walkthrough of my past performances. I look for horses to play against. I truly think everybody makes a big deal of rich strike. I think he's one of the first horses I would play against. And Dave you mentioned earlier, the victory in the Oklahoma Derby of shake rattle and roll or rattle and roll. Rattle and roll won the St. Louis Derby. And you know, I don't know after you win the Kentucky Derby, if that's just not impressive enough of a thing to win. But I was always born. My father was a trainer. You're on horses where you can win. There's no way that horse had a chance to run the trap when the Travers. That word should have won in the span of the St. Louis Derby. And you know, rattle and roll had a pretty good little record. You know, it was one of the same little story won the Oklahoma Derby. I think that horse, you know, and I don't know where it fit on the calendar, obviously, a week, but instead of running the Oklahoma Derby, that horse had more of a chance to win the Lucas classic than rich strike. So, you know, I look at play against. Tom, we appreciate your thoughts. What do you think about. What do I mean does that mean? No, I wanted to get James thoughts on what you're saying about where you're running. Rich strike. Do you think rich strike is completely out of his element? James? No, no, I mean, you know, he made $85,000 running forth in the traverse and he got beaten us in the next four seconds. So I thought he ran a really good race in there. He's two for two at Churchill downs and I think going to run in the romantic part or Oklahoma Derby. You know, listen, I mean, to me, the horse was exposed to in a sense in the Belmont and everybody's going to put a lot of stock in that effort. But he wasn't right after the Derby. He was on the vet's list for a reason. I mean, reports I heard, which are completely unsubstantiated and couldn't just total rumors, but where that is his back was all out of sorts and he was all stiff and it took him a while before he was back to himself and, you know, so I can give him that race. And I look at the Derby and even look at his third in the Jeffree ruby steaks. He was a proven at that point. He took a huge step forward obviously in the Derby, but he ran well in the Travers. Considering he just probably got very little out of the Belmont he just spraying around the track and hadn't run since June 11th. I thought that was a real good showing and, you know, Deluca's classic isn't some grade one race. Now granted, it came up. Like a grade one with our collector and happy saver and hot rod Charlie, but to me it was a realistic race to point to this fall for its strike. Well, Tom, we appreciate your call. I want to ask James about something that both of you have said, you both think speakers corner is vulnerable. Let me just kind of play devil's advocate. Could he be controlling speed yeah, I mean, there's definitely a, you know, that's the concern. He's going to, you know, show you would think he's going to show pace from the rail because, you know, he doesn't want to get caught in there, but you know, like I'm saying, you know, he's never run a Churchill downs. And what if he doesn't get out of the gate, that's sharply, you know, then he could be in trouble. And there's some other horses in there that, you know, may not have may not be as quick as him on paper, but they're eligible to be hustled from the starting gate and perhaps makes it up a little bit. Up front. We'll see. And number 7 injunction is one that I was looking at and maybe Twilight blue from the outside. You know, it's just it's a thing to me where if you're not running your best races at the current time and you were running and I'm like earlier in the season, you know, that makes you a potentially vulnerable, especially if you're going to be odds on like your speaker's corner perhaps will be an even money morning line favorite. Bobby Newman and I will pick that race and a dozen others on tomorrow's weekend stakes preview between 6 and 7 p.m. Eastern Time and you can get it on demand at horse racing radio dot net and wherever you get your favorite podcasts.

"Dad and his partner, they went and bought three horses. One, I honestly can't remember. Another one named political policy that he ran in some cheap claiming races. And then a horse by the name of country chase Philly. That actually won a couple of stakes races. And some allowance and races and so forth. It was a real nice filling. I wasn't involved with the buying of those three. But. I think I think it might have been when my dad and I went to fazi tipton. And we bought a horse by the name of well, she was a yearling so she didn't have a name. The sir was all you hush. Ayu hush. Yeah, how do you say it? And we named that Philly hush, Jessica. After my second daughter. Okay. And she was okay. She wants she wants some claiming races. And we did okay with her. Wasn't anything special, but I'll never forget when we were at a Churchill downs and she won and but you got claimed. And my daughter was probably 6 years old at the time. And she always enjoyed going to the backside after the race and watching him get a bath. And she said, okay, daddy, let's go back to the back side and so I can watch my horse get a bath. We don't own her anymore. And it really hadn't thought that out until that moment. Right. And she was a little upset until I explained her that since she was claimed and we sold her, we get to go get ice cream. Ice cream always works. And that kind of bailed me out of a little bit of trouble. You know, that's one of the things that when I talk with owners on this show or I host some of the or moderate some of the owner view panels that the jockey club puts together, we talked about the experience of owning race horses and being able to involve your Friends and your family. The whole lifestyle associated with it, most people aren't getting into racehorse ownership to make money. Maybe you get lucky and you do. But for the most part, it's that experience with your Friends and your family. Do you agree, Mike? Oh, 100%. We lost my dad in 2000. And some of the best memories I have is he and I either going out to Churchill or going up to turfway on a Thursday or Friday night and watching one of our horses run. And yeah, nice stakes races is maybe a tad bit better. But to see your horse cross the finish line and go down the winter circle, leave it on a $10,000 claiming race is still a lot of fun. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. I've been involved with a few horses too and just don't small pieces of them, but it doesn't matter what race they're running and it feels like I'm sure there's a different feel to the actual Kentucky Derby, but when you're not there, any race feels like The Kentucky Derby when your horse is coming through the stretch and you're watching them do their thing and especially if they win. It's a feeling that boy, I say it all the time. If you could bottle that feeling and sell it, this would be the easiest sport to market in the entire world. I agree. Yep. Yep, Mike macken is with me. He's with lucky 7 stable. Rattle and roll in the Oklahoma Derby tomorrow and of course fun and feisty. The big win in the Pocahontas and now pointed for the alcibiades coming up at Keenan on their opening weekend and then hopefully on to the breeders cup. Mike listen, I really appreciate the visit here this morning. All the best with your entire stable and I'll look forward to catching up with you again down the road. I was a pleasure talking with you. You too, my friend, Mike Mack and lucky 7 stable here on HR N when I come back, I will tell you what's coming up in our number two and we'll look ahead to our three as well. This is the equine form on the horse racing radio network. Hi Tony. Hey, Matthew. There's a reason why Tony steaks and seafood is my favorite restaurant. It's because I want to feel part of the family. Isn't that right, Tony? That's right. There's a saying on the wall that I truly believe in. There's always room for one more at our table. We just want you to be part of our family. And believe me, you will be. It's Tony steaks and seafood right across from triangle park, visit them at Tony steaks and seafood dot com.

"Travis stone had the call that you just heard. And that was dare I say in a razzie like move. Way back early, sitting in 11th and just exploded, ran by everybody to win by three and a half lengths. 6 to one, too. Good odds on fun and feisty. And again, a very patient ride by Julian leproux, but boy, when he pushed the button off she went, and I'm joined now by her owner, Mike macken of lucky 7 stable, Mike, good morning. And congratulations on that big win. Good morning, and thank you, sir. You know, you're no stranger to being in the winner circle in some big races, but that one had to be pretty special for you. That's always nice to go to the yearling sale and then a year and pick out some nice horses than a year later, CM do well. Yeah, and you're not alone when you do that, your man Kenny mcpeak was the trainer of fun and feisty is a great judge of horseflesh, especially at a young age like that. Talk a little bit about that relationship and talk about what he saw and what you saw in fun and feisty at the sales. Kenny is he does have an excellent eye for yearlings and picking out ones that can run. But the midshipman really fun and feisty. She just looked like a solid horse. Good family. Gets a lot of runners. And they're just really wasn't anything wrong with her. And for the last year that we've had her, she's proven to be a solid Philly that has a good head tour and she's still learning. Julian told me after the race that she was still looking around a little bit and hopefully she'll do better and do well and the aqua bodies here in a couple of weeks. Yeah, much like a sports team, right? It's much better to win and learn than it is to learn and get beat. So fun and feisty. If you think about her still learning and there's still upside to her, which you're probably is as a young two year old. Boy, that's a great sign, isn't it? Yeah, it is. Her first race was a huge learning experience. And then her second race, she kind of still learning. She made a pretty good move around the turn. And then she kind of hung a bit up the lane and got second. But when she broke her maiden at Churchill on the 13th on millions day, she seemed to put it together a lot better and it kind of surprised me. It didn't surprise Kenny. I didn't think she'd get there at 6 furlongs, but she did that day. Put me next to you last Saturday watching her make that run. As I mentioned, she came from 11th in the 12 horse field and ran by everybody drew off to win by three and a half. What was it like for you sitting there watching her make that run? Oh, it was nice. It was very, very nice. I'm sure it wasn't. You can't lie about that. And actually, I was afterwards, I was watching the replay and I was remembering when rall and roll last year in the breeder security at keenland was well back of the pack and made a big move like that on the outside around the turn. She just handled that turn very well and like he did and made up a lot of ground around that turn. We'll make this segment is called road to the breeders cup and I thought it was appropriate to welcome you for this particular segment because I'm sure fun and feisty now has her sights set on that breeders cup juvenile Phillies race at kingland in early November. Is that the game plan now? Will there I think you mentioned maybe one more start in between? We're going to run the alcibiades a keenly and I think it's on the 7th. That Friday afternoon and hopefully she does well there, which sets her up for four weeks later for the breeders cup. Yeah, yeah and you bring up another name rattle and roll and I know that that was a big day for you in the breeders security when he won that race. Tell me about rattle and roll and how he's doing and what we're going to see from him. Oh, he's doing great. We entered him yesterday in the Oklahoma Derby. I think he's 5 of 8 out there for Sunday. I actually Sunday Night. East coast time. I think the race runs around 8 15 central time 9 15 our time. But he's doing well. But he's kind of horse that he doesn't have a whole lot of speed. He just kind of comes out of the gate and gets his legs underneath him and he's when he's run well. He's been on the outside and made big moves around the turn. Like fun and feisty that last Saturday. Yeah. You know, we mentioned that huge grade one victory at Keenan back in October of last year. And he hasn't really duplicated that form with great estates company yet. He hasn't won a great mistake since that victory. But he has one other races. Is that somewhat frustrating for an owner when you know that the horse has that potential that he is grade one caliber and he just hasn't been able to put it together again like he did that day? Well, that day set up well for him. Classic causeway went to the lead, set some pretty quick fractions. And drug a couple of other horses with them. And which set him up to make his run from the back of the pack. He, like I said, he's not that quick. And a quick pace out on the front end really helps him. Actually, I was thinking after the Derby this year, rich strike one, we were next on the AE list that day. That would have been a perfect race for him. Yeah, but the pace scenario, the added ground, all of those things playing into it for a horse that comes from off the pace and needs a little help on the front end early. Correct. Correct. It would have set up its set up a whole lot better for him than smile happy. Yep. Yeah, well, let's talk about smile happy for a minute and talk about that ride that he had taken you on, going to The Kentucky Derby. You're a Louisville native boy that had to be pretty special for you and your family, Mike. That was fun. Like you said, we've had some decent horses over the year and won some good races. But that was really the first time we've ever made it to The Kentucky Derby. We had one other horse about 20 years ago that sort of got close. And was on that path. But unfortunately, got hurt in the Arkansas Derby. And that was it for him. He's still, it took about a year for him to get back to the races, but he won quite a few races after he came back from that. What are some of the favorite stories might that you do like to tell about that Kentucky Derby this year and that whole experience? Well, I was just having. 99.9% of our family in from all over the country and all the children and grandchildren and cousins and their some of their children. And for the Derby and I remember I don't remember which race it is, but we worked it out with Churchill for the whole group to get into the paddock in between races. For a group shot. Wow. And that was a lot of fun. Of course, there was 70 or close to 80 of us out there that day. And of course, we were somewhat scattered our seats, so other than the party afterwards. That day during the day, that's really the only time we were together.

"Under the radar real nice racehorse. He made over $1.5 million in his career was a multiple graded stakes winner in addition to that Oklahoma Derby in 2019. He won the Ohio Derby and the Lexington earlier in the year. We're pleased now to be joined by the gentleman who got to call the action of Owen Dale winning. He's going to get to call this year's Oklahoma Derby as well. Dale day. Thanks for taking the time, my friend. Thanks for having me, Bobby. R and P on Dale, he was a favorite of mine. I really liked him. And another horse in that race in 2019, sleepy guys Todd. He kind of went on to have a really nice career. He really wasn't known until he hit the board in the Derby that year, and then he went on to do all kinds of things, traveled overseas, made big money on the Charleston classic once and yeah, he reacted up and did really well. Wasn't he the one who ran it like 8 different racetracks like 8 different states just traveling all over. He was just amazing, obviously the gas prices were a little bit lower back then. It was easier to ship them around, but yeah, you got to see some real good horses back then. I'll tell you, I'm looking at the history of the Oklahoma Derby, which of course began as the Remington park there would be the very first one in 1989 still be my favorite winner with clever Trevor getting the job done for pettinger and von hemo, but you've seen some real good ones over the years. And we mentioned that Brad Cox has won the last three. He's going to have a good shot to get his fourth in a row. He's got the morning line favorite best actor on Sunday. Yeah, 8 horses in the Derby coming up on Sunday, race number 11 of 12 on our big card, which starts at 3 p.m. central four eastern. Best actor, yes. I did not put him on top, but that's my problem. He looked really good in the smarty Jones there, parks. And hats off to the connections there. He's only raced as a three year old. He's had four starts only this year he's won three of those second and the other just missed in the Indiana Derby coming from off the pace and almost getting there. They obviously realized this horse has some talent, but he's still trying to figure it out. He's only had those four races. He's not like so many other three year olds at this time of the year across the country that have been racing since the last half of their two year old year and they've got tons of season and they know what they're doing. So send him here probably a much lighter spot obviously than chasing the pan Derby for a million or something else around the country here the next week or so for three year olds. And we're happy to have him. Brad Cox. He's known what he's doing. And Laurent Giroux coming into ride, so he obviously likes the horse as well. So it's going to be tough to beat him. I took a shot to beat him with Ken mcphee peak source rattle and roll. So rattle and roll ran against best actor in the Indiana Derby. And that was that strange spot for rattle and roll. He had just won 7 days prior and it was almost like kind of an out of nowhere. Wow, we might as well run in the Indiana Derby kind of a decision and between that and the fact that he was just awful coming out of the starting gate. He wasn't a factor at all, but he was actually favored over best actor that day. I know that best actors 9 to 5 on the line rattle and roll is 5 to two. Would you be shocked if rattle and roll ends up being the favorite in the race? Probably because I think everyone's in tune with Brad Cox and what he's been doing obviously for a number of years now, but especially here on this day. It would be a minor surprise, I think. But yeah, you look at that Indiana race, those two were in there, obviously, king Ottoman, who broke his maiden in the Texas Derby for Steve aspie and asked me some puts him in a stakes race and lone star park just miles from where he calls home down in the Arlington. And he breaks his maiden and wins the $300,000 raise, then he's thirdly Indiana and probably didn't like the off track, I guess at the West Virginia mountaineer. But he was in an Indiana Derby as well. So that's an interesting array. King Ottoman still now winter two and ask me this when I text him earlier last week who he thought he was going to put in the Derby. He came right back with king Ottoman. So that's this horse was pointed for this race for Astros and ever since the West Virginia. So I'm interested to see how he performs if the king out of him and we saw on the off track that didn't like it. Maybe West Virginia or the one that came rolling and just got up there in that Texas Derby during a mile of 16th. Model and 8 for the Oakland Derby, maybe he'll like the extra ground after having a little more time off. What are your impressions of number one steel sunshine? He's going great guns right now really kind of working his way up the class ladder has the benefit of that inside post for connections that don't ship away from South Florida very often Bobby de bona and Leon el Reyes.

"The leader right from the start leads as they come for the top of the stretch. And then it is searched for truth. On the outside is a fighter in the wind into the lane now with sea falls still in front, search for truth, looking for a way through is constitution lawyer. And now orchestration is coming on on the outside along with shawty shawty shawty. Here comes fighter in the win. She falls is there orchestration and shawty shawty shawty. Shawty shawty shawty and orchestration, shawty, shoddy, shoddy, narrowly over orchestration. Good driving finish in the 7th race at aqueduct ended up running 8 7 6 the Ortiz brothers fighting down the lane aboard shoddy shoddy shoddy with Jose, orchestration, the favorite with irad, shawty, shawty, shawty, able to run down the favorite orchestration in the final strides and get up for the win 8, 7, 6, the unofficial top three in that 7th race at aqueduct final time for the myelin three 8 solid enough, two 15 and one. So they pretty much they flew home that final that final furlong there going from two O three and two to two 15 and one so 11 just under 12 seconds. These final two closing in and really saving their best for last shoddy, shoddy, shoddy, getting just his second win from 16 career starts. "But Remington park has got some big races as well. They take place on Sunday, including pretty nice grade three event for the three year olds the Oklahoma Derby also at a mile and an 8th and although we don't have the big name like Triple Crown running horses in here, we've got horses that are really up and coming and making a name for themselves in smaller races, steel sunshine, bidding for his fourth straight win coming off a monstrous win in the Ellis park Derby last time out. Best actor looked great taking parks great three smarty Jones just last month and rattle and roll who will probably be the favorite won the American Derby at Churchill and he won the St. Louis Derby over at fairmount park last time out. Yeah, and you know, rattle and roll, I mean, he's run those good races that are mild at 16th. You know, his efforts at a mile and 8 earlier this year left something to be desired to mount 8th voluntary 16th. I'm a little bit concerned about him with the distance and just being off the pay style. Definitely steals steel sunshine is one that catches my eye. I like that improving form that he has. He's never been, he only been past tomorrow. He's been running in a mile or 7 for a while since his last four starts, but he's by constitution now, but I'm brought a song there. I think you'll get the distance. I like him for the rail. Up and comer, like you mentioned, number one, seal sunshine. It's going to be interesting seeing him around two turns because he's mainly been a one turn horse in his career. He tried a mile in an 8th a couple of times earlier this season at Gulfstream park in with very limited success against some pretty tough competition like white a barrio and charge it and simplification. Last time out, he kind of ran one and a half turns in the one mile Ellis park Derby, but he's going to get a full two turns in the grade three Oklahoma Derby goes as race 11 on Sunday's card 9 14 Eastern Time, the approximate post time for the grade three Oklahoma Derby. "So I think she's going to be setting the pace in there and you're going to have like several runners right behind her like look into take a run at her. But the thing with secret oath is, you know, she has some tactical speed at times, Bobby, but I'm just wondering where she'll be in the early going. If I'm backing her as the favorite in the cotillion, I definitely wouldn't want to see her back like 8th or 9th and they're all gone. Is there anything secret oath could do in the cotillion that would make you think that she's a major player versus nest and male fat and some of these other big Phillies and mayors that are pointing toward the distaff? No, I think that nest is just risen to a completely different tier. I think Ness has a real chance to win the British kept dissed staff and wouldn't be surprised she did it. But I do think those older Phillies are better than secret oath right now. I just didn't, you know, like I said, I thought that she could have run a little better in both those races at Saratoga. So that concerns me given how well she ran earlier this year and in Kentucky oaks. I just haven't seen I would have liked to see it around a little bit better. Just like the, you know, watching the replay of Alabama granted, once again, it's a mile and a quarter distance, but if you watch her, she was just like really out of gas, I think by the top of the stretch in both those races. All right, we're going to take our final time out. When we come back, phone lines will still be open if you'd like to call in 888-966-4776 is the number. "Meadows, featured race on the Prairie Meadows card tomorrow is race number 9, the grade three cornhusker, $300,000 on the line for the three year olds and up going a mile in an 8. This is a race that, of course, for many, many years was over in Nebraska, where Nebraska at act sarbanes is now officially called the Prairie Meadows cornhusker handicap. Last year, we saw maybe the best horse to ever race at Prairie Meadows win the cornhusker. Nicks go as he got back to his winning ways and used the cornhusker to kind of propel him toward his horse of the year campaign. Once again, no Knicks goes in this year, but an evenly matched field of 6 bob, morning line favorite is number 5 warrant. You know, there's some talent very talented horses in here. Yeah, nicks go, I think came to this race last year because he's looking for a confidence builder or just a place to get him right back on the right track after his performance in Saudi Arabia. And things didn't work out on that browser unusual dirt surface and provided them with a stepping stone he needed to have a championship campaign so it was wonderful for prey Meadows and it was great to see a horse like that in front of us at that track. Officiating his interesting in here the two, safi Joseph entrance, and I don't really remember him sapphire ever running a horse at prey Meadows. I'm not sure if that's the case, but this is the first I recall. Castellano rides him. His last three races are sprints. He's never really shown too much at a route at all to be interesting to see how he performs over 9 furlongs. I think it's just too far for the sun to blame, even though he's certainly bred to run a route. Warrant, you have to have a lot of respect for him. He's really hard knocking horse, as we heard on the intro, his performance in the Oklahoma Derby, I think, was a career peak. He always shows up, you can expect him to definitely be a factor of the finish. I'm going to go ahead and pick the three silver prospector. Stuart Elliott rise for Steve ass music 5 year old son of one of my favorite stallions from the last few years declaration of war, he's incredibly versatile stallion is out of a tap at mayors of the auto relish the mountain 8th. Got back to his best self, a horse has run a series of good races, including four backy faced olympiad, who was mind-blowing in the Stephen foster last week his face cattle river is facing very good horses. I think this is a similar field of what he beat in the mile race down at lone star, the grade three down there, I think he's, I think he's very capable of going 8th of a mile further in my selections the three silver prospector. Okay, I am having a hard time separating silver prospector rated R superstar and warrant. I'm going to put warrant on top because I think he may have a little bit of a pace advantage over some of the others in this field Ricardo Santana junior comes in to ride the son of constitution who I don't think is going to have any problem with the myelin and 8th either being the fact that he ran very well in the grade two Brooklyn at a mile and a half behind fearless last time out. He was only about two and a half lengths behind fearless and fearless looks like he'd be about two to 5 if he were in this race. So warrant for me, he's another one that looks like he's really improving. We heard him winning the Oklahoma Derby last year in our rejoin to this segment. I think he's much better this year as a four year old than he even was as a three year old and he's a horse that, although I don't think he's the top Echelon, the life is good, the olympiads, that kind of yet he is solidly at this level of competition where he wants to be, I'm going to put warrant on top in the grade three corn husker bob going with silver prospector to get the job done. We're both picking horses who don't win regularly. And silver prospector, I don't know if he ever has. It's certainly been a while since he's had back to back wins. We'll see if that happens in the grade three cornhusker at Prairie Meadows tomorrow race number 9 on their card. We're going to take one last break when we come back. They've got great racing and Delaware park as well tomorrow and one nice race on Sunday at Belmont park. You're listening to the weekend stakes preview presented by naira bets on the horse racing

"It's like a furlong and a half straight away before you get there and it's obviously a 9 furlong race so stamina becomes a much, much bigger thing and you end up not getting the hot paces at all, even though it's really, I mean, this is an extra furlong, which is significant but doesn't seem crazy. So it was just kind of I was thinking out loud, I guess, about how sometimes these races can be so different, just based off a distance. So I mean, it's a mile and a quarter race way different than my own athletes. I feel like it is. I feel like in the rider's heads, they ride it differently, all that kind of stuff. And warrant was up very close in that mile and a quarter race. And you know, you look back at a lot of his mile in 8th mile and a 16th races. He's in the ballpark, but he's not sitting right off the lead generally. I mean, I guess the Oklahoma Derby is an exception, but so but then scalding is a horse who comes into this race, you know, ran an aqueduct and some made raises broke the maid at Gulfstream, came over to Tampa ran an optional 16, was impressive, but didn't, you know, didn't beat a lot, and then jumps up and wins the challenger. To me, he's like becoming the now horse. And he's bred well. He was an expensive horse. He's got obviously very top connections with suge and castellano. And like there's no reason for him not to be a big contender in this. And he was bet somewhat. I mean, his third choice at 5 to one, but, you know, proxy and warrant weren't obviously coming off that good last rate. So when I say that scalding is the now horse, there's probably a little bit of not correctness. In that comment. But he's the horse who has been proven more at this level, I suppose. But outside of that one big number last time out, like his numbers are kind of right where scalding is last few have been. And proxy was very good in his comeback was pretty good in his second start, but I feel like he was living off a lot of what he did as a young three year old, not maybe as what we've seen in a four year old, even though he was pretty good. So maybe my entire analogy is not good. The more I think about it, but it just felt like scalding was more the horse on the rise versus kind of the horses that have already been there. And the difference in the price just didn't seem that significant compared to what he was kind of capable of. I mean, last time was his big jump forward in terms of class and so this was just another test at a slightly higher level. And I would argue that he passed with flying colors. One very solidly dynamic, one kind of got going nice late. He was far back and they weren't, they weren't necessarily flying. Now the top two end up running second to last in the last day were the two longest shots at the board. Mighty Hart and cowboy diplomacy. So, you know, was it a fall apart race? I don't think so. I think scalding kind of had I mean, I don't think you really had much of an excuse. You know, to be fair, and so I know on the chart, it looks like a bit of a fall apart race. I don't really think it was. I think it's just some longer shot horses that weren't as good. And they were kind of contending too, right? Like they were head and head for a good chunk of it. And so even though it wasn't that fast, long shots going at it, getting picked up by better horses. That doesn't seem like a fall apart race to me. It just seemed like the better horses. Came up and grabbed them. That allowance racing keenly, we talked about yesterday or yesterday, Thursday, cam's mission, who was in a really salty group. It was market rumor who ended up getting the win games mission got beat a head as a 9 to 5 favor, but a nice effort, but that one. Cassidy goat was kind of a highly billed first timer, but and one, by 12, and so I think horses that win like that, I'm really curious to see what the speed figures come back just because I always say that huge margin wins are a combination are either one horse which is way better than the others or one fires in the others just don't or some kind of combination of both. And to me, I feel like it's usually a combination of both. So we'll see what comes back with that one. But you're going to see a ton of buzz off that horse just off that big, big effort, but Saturday keenland in the books and last Saturday, right? I think closing Dave Keenan is Friday. If I'm not mistaken, then Churchill starts on the 30th. I think I got all that right. I think I got it right. Why don't we take a quick time out we come back we'll talk some Oakland. We'll try to get you some aqueduct and Laurel on our weekend recap addition of the program. It's a JCB horse racing podcast brought to.

"The Oklahoma Derby 6 prolonged in a minute 13.75 into the stretch, race on. It's dean martini, giving way batting outside to hear shared sense of mimosa farther out. How about guard to the inside dark we can easily live. Shared sense now has the advantage and has shared since trying to pull clear with a 16th ago, shared sense is going on to win the Oklahoma Derby by three mimosa solid second Liam tougher third avant garde forth. Dale day on the call of last year's grade three Oklahoma Derby won impressively by shared sense and shared sense is going to try his hand this Sunday in the tenacious stakes at fairgrounds. Welcome back to the weekend stakes preview presented by nyra betts Bobby Newman Dave Friedman 14 races we're looking at over this holiday weekend. All of them taking place on Sunday and speaking of that tenacious stakes, race number 8 on the fairgrounds card on Sunday. $100,000 on the line for the three year olds and up mile and a 16th on the main track pretty evenly matched field of ten set to go to post Dave and it is number 5 shared sense who's the morning line favorite at 5 to two. And I like shared sense the best in here. And I think shared sense is the most likely winner in here. I also think there's an opportunity to get a price. The race that we played there, the Oklahoma Derby. That race would profile similar to this one in terms of the quality of feel. Since then, shared sense has been running against some better horses losing to Nick's go last time in a grade three at Churchill downs facing horses like art collector and plainsman and force a dioro and when shared sense has faced fields sort of like this, he has done rather well. I think he's the best horse in here. He is my pick in here. He beat major fed, and he beat chess chief last time out. Could either of them turn the tables on them? Sure they could. I think happy American is interesting here, stepping up for Neil Pessin coming off a really, really good-looking race in an optional claimer at Churchill downs. I think pirates punch at a price has an opportunity toss out the turf race last time out, putting up some pretty good figs and back in 2020 would have been good enough to beat these may have been the favored against these. And big dreaming has figs that fit as well. Particularly when you look back at some of the dirt races, which would be more similar to this race. I think shared since the most likely winner, I am gonna be dabbling with a bunch of horses when I actually bet it. Okay, so you're going to go with the favorite shared sense as a likely winner and spreading out with him. I'm going to use a horse you didn't mention. Number three trident hit as my top selection for Ronald quit. And Dave Cabrera, this horse was very disappointing last time out in the hawk memorial at Remington when he was beaten by three and a half something lengths at odds of three to 5. I think it was just a clunker for him. His previous races would give him a chance in here, including a nice allowance win at Churchill downs at a mile in a 16th two starts back. I'm willing to look past that last race. You're going to get a much better price this time out. One more time for me with number three trident hit. If you can somehow find a reason to draw a line through his last race to me he's as good as anybody in the field and he's going to be a nice price. 6 to one on the morning line for trident hit in the tenacious. Moving up to the 9th race on Sunday, $75,000 buddy deliberate memorial, mile in a 16th on the turf for the three year olds and up will have a full field of 12 here Dave, where you end up. I think this is a really complicated race. 5 of them, monarchs Glen, logical myth, another mystery. Pixelate and 40 under are all coming out of the same race. One of them broke through the gate in that race, another one ran into trouble. I had a really difficult time kind of coming to any sort of conclusion about what that race means. I think it's very possible that number 7 cavalry charge and number 1240 under could be out on a pretty slow pace. And I'm interested in cavalry charge to win this race, wired a wire at a really nice price. But I think the most likely winner is spooky channel for Jason Barkley, who has back to back victories. I think we'll be coming late, and hopefully can tactically be not too far back today. I like the horses that spooky channel has been running against. I think it's the most likely winter. I would need to spread and I do think there's a chance to get a price. I agree with everything you said. And I think spooky channel is the likeliest, the most logical, as far as the how about the safest play. He runs his race more often than not, and he's been running against better horses. He makes a lot of sense. That being said, I'm going to try number 5 big dreaming on top. He was entered in both the tenacious and this race, I think he was only entered in the tenacious in case it rained and it moved that and just to have options. But he's a better turf force than he is a dirt horse. And he's in good form right now. I like his recent, I like his effort on a synthetic track last time out, but before that, I liked his effort on the turf at keeneland in an unconditioned allowance race. I think that's good enough to put him right there and at 8 to one, I'm going to put him on top. So big dreaming for me, spooky channel for Dave in the buddy deliberate of memorial race 9 on the fair grounds card this Sunday. Tenth race is for the two year old Phillies. It's the $100,000 uncapable. Mylan 70 yards on the main track field of 8 Dave and marks the return of cocktail moments boy, she was ultra impressive in her debut at Churchill. Yes, she went off at 26 to one came off the pace and just blew by a field that I don't know if it was all that great posted a big fig very, very visually impressive and is three to one here and if you believe that last race, if you think that race is gonna be repeated, you should bet on cocktail moments because the price is fair. I went with north county on the extreme outside for Brendan Walsh. I just think the horse's north county has run against both in a turf race at Indiana grand debuting went off at 6 to 5 and one by four lengths and last time out in a non winners at two lifetime other than a maiden race at keener on a race that was taken off the turf. The horses that were in that race came back and ran competitively one of them beat feeling happy who is in this race today. I think north county is run against the best horses is two for two and that's where I'm going with a 9 to price that I think is fair. Well, I agree that north county has a big shot. I'm not really sure that she ran against the best horses. I would guess number two, California angel is the one who's coming out of the races. She ran in the grade one breeders cup juvenile Philly's turf last time out, and even though she wasn't really a contender, she was only beaten four lengths. But those were turf races. Right. And those are turf races, and that's the big question mark for her. The one time she ran on the dirt was by far speed rating wise, the slowest of her four lifetime starts. And now she's getting back to the dirt. So we don't know what we're going to get from California angel. I can't get creative here. I think cocktail moments look good last time out. That's an understatement. She's by uncle Moe out of a where's the ring there, so at least on the top side, I think she should have no problem handling the extra distance..

"Change is that I'm not a 100% sure wind of change likes Gulf Stream as much as he likes some other tracks around the country, but his good races are good enough to give him a chance. And I would certainly use him on horizontal plays as well. Endorsed for both Dave and me in the grade three mister prospector race ten tomorrow at Gulfstream park goes about four 32. Eastern Time. Let's head up to Oak Lawn park, Hot Springs Arkansas, they're featured raised tomorrow, is the $150,000 point set of stakes. Three year olds, a mile and a 16th field of 7 to go to post. And the morning line favorite is this year's Arkansas Derby winner. Super stock. He's already raced twice at Oakland in his career. Obviously likes it there at Oakland. Since he won the Arkansas Derby, he's won the Alice park, Derby, and most recently won the Zia park Derby, Luis Contreras going to ride the Steve asthmas and trainee for the first time. I love this race with one big asterisk. I don't like super stuck and I don't like flash of mischief and they're gonna take a lot of the money, which means it sets up very nicely for a price of some sort. I'm just not sure which one I like. Super stock beat a field that he was supposed to beat in quite honestly didn't run that well in the Zia park Derby. The fig came up, pretty light. The Ellis park Derby, again, I don't think that was against the best competition of all time. I don't think that super stock has run an a race since the Arkansas Derby. And that was a long time ago. That was April. Flash of mischief is a horse that just went out and beat older horses last time. It was at Delta downs went off as a three to 5 favorite against a field of 6 competitors. I think both of those horses have the look of we can beat them here. But who can beat them? I'm a little bit interested in number three to feed her for Tom Amos $210,000 son of union rags, one last time out in a starter allowance race at Churchill downs two lifetime wins. I'm a little interested in ram on the extreme outside. I've just told myself I'm not betting on dewayne Lucas anymore because once upon a time, one of the great trainers, but has really struggled in recent years, big time work at the beginning of November. I like a couple of the recent races and now stretching out to a mile and a 16th, but I ended up with some of it for Mike maker because how many times over the last two or three years have we seen Mike maker horses step out of a spot that you went? Okay, that was a good win. Oh boy, now I can stake sources. I don't know. And then he wins at a price coming off and allowance win at Churchill downs. I think myopic has a chance for Robert Tino diodoro two. If I'm playing this race, I'm gonna play him all or maybe all but the favorites. Understood, and you and I have the same feeling as a as far as super stock goes, I think he's been a very fortunate horse in his wins. He's found big purses where either there's been almost no competition or the competition that was expected just simply didn't run at all that day. And he's a grade one winner and he's a multiple stakes winner and they made a lot of money was super stock over $1.1 million in his career. And to me, I'm just kind of shake my head and say, well, he's just been placed in the right spots. Maybe he's placed in the right spot again tomorrow. I'm going to try to beat him with number two defeater. Defeat are finished behind both super stock and flash of mischief in the grade three Oklahoma Derby and the blast part of September at Remington. And you really didn't have much of an excuse that day. I just don't think he ran his race, but he's come back with a good win at Churchill since then. I think there's more upside for defeater than a lot of the others in this. So I'm going to look for defeater to turn the tables on super stock and flaccid mischief and win the point set up race 9 tomorrow at Oak Lawn park. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to head down to Tampa Bay downs and start the analysis from the big card at the fairgrounds. You're listening to the weekend stakes preview presented by nyra betts on the horse racing radio network..

"Listen she was good enough to be within two lengths of gha mean. That's good enough to win. Just about any filly and mare sprint. There is in the country. And you know what camin isn't in this race lake and lake avenue for both me and dave in the grey to gallant bloom. Quarter million dollar race goes as the ninth on the card sunday at belmont park. Well mentioned earlier. That sunday is a huge day at remington park. It's really their marquee. They've got steaks all up and down there. Sunday program dave and we're going to take a look at a couple of them starting with race number eight. It's the two hundred thousand dollar grade. Three remington park oaks for the three year. Old fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the main track. We've got a field of seven here a lot of very very talented runners. The morning line favorite is number. One pollings pearl coming off a couple of in the money finishes charlestown and prairie meadows. Or last two. She actually ran a decent race in the grade. One kentucky oaks prior to that drawn well toward the inside. She makes sense as the favorite. But i she certainly doesn't lay over this field. I just don't think she's beaten anybody. That makes me abundantly confident. She fits for sure and may win. And you have to respect asked me sending santana and stonecrest. I'm just not like blown away very very viable for sure. The number seven lady mystify coming in from southern california for peterman and fluffy and prod going to show speed in this race. The figs earl glow. But i'm interested. Throw out the last blade in that race prior to against not a whole lot were really really good but the one i like best is amendment. Nineteen for brad cox. You don't know first. Time trying to turns but i think the last race a pretty good second at saratoga. It's says it's an hour race but one hundred thousand dollars. Non winners of one other maiden lifetime that race came back reasonably well. And that's where. I'm going. Brad cox first time training twenty six percent horse coming out of a race. Saratoga i feel best about amendment nineteen okay. We're on the same philly once again amendment. Nineteen for me for everything that you said. listen. I don't think she leaves over the field but i think she has more upside than just about everyone because she only has three races lifetime she. She goes from one very good barn to another from linda. Rice to brad cox But being by constitution. I don't think the mile and a sixteenth distance will hurt her. She's she's kind of got greenware. She's bread more for a route on the on the top side and more for a sprint out of carson city on the dan side well. She's run pretty well at six furlongs. Seven furlongs in a one turn mile us far trying to turn for the first time. Yes there are question marks. But i believe in her. I believe in trainer. Brad cox and i certainly believe in jockey joel. Rosario seventy-two on the morning line. I think that's a fair price for amendment. Nineteen we both like her in the grade. Three remington park oaks race eight on the remington card. This sunday the marquee event on sunday at remington park is the grade three oklahoma derby race number eleven. Four hundred thousand dollars on the line..

"I said i shop if he isn't sold between now and his next start I don't know if he did any look at. The breeding is obviously by. Speaks town on the dan. You know a speaks town mayor But yeah visually. This was a big effort. It certainly matches me figure. No this act reminds me a lot of what we talked about. Whistles debut from tampa last year we kind both said this is probably wind up at a different bar next time and lo and behold he showed up for chad brown months later and ran bo liam to a no decision at saratoga. So we'll see what ultimately happens with l. Pondo but i agree watching this raise visually. It looks like an ordinary race until the quarter. Paul when david cabrera really set this horse down and he just kicked it into a different gear it especially in the final eighth mile. I mean he was just just galloping away from these horses with ease and geared down at the end it seemed like he couldn't even pull them up coming across the wires a really impressive effort from this horse again. Only five for log but as you pointed out a one zero seven time formula speed figure really nice for a two year old. That's actually six points higher than the number you gear into the horse dead got so many people talking on social media after her victory on friday at churchill downs of so definitely a cult worth following like you said one that would seem likely to be sold eventually and we'll we'll see where he ultimately ends up but definitely a horse that seems like an exciting prospect. Did look up the pedigree out work. We don't know a whole lot about him as a sire just yet there is sprint pedigree on the damn side so i just i think horse that we still need to learn quite a bit about. Yeah you mentioned remington park. I will use that as a little bit of the segue. I'll be there on sunday and probably a couple of days this weekend because it's oklahoma derby weekend and the reason i mentioned that is because i wanted to mention that you and i are going to be doing so a something new for dr f- we're gonna do some into individual race recaps in one of our not recaps for previews and one of them is going to be remington oaks. Which i believe is on the oklahoma derby card if not it's day before which is something we're gonna talk about. I think we're doing four races this week. Kind of won't be the same as what we get from being men and might year but a along that same thing where we preview some of the biggest things ruth coming up during the week. We're both excited about that. The video team Once a little bit more handicap talent to share those steaks previews wit. So we're both excited about.

"Plenty of other there was there there's there's a bunch of the whole the whole churchill weekend actually and then all the belmont weekend because the main races as well. The dive through there was The francis dash had the cue. Which was you know seem to make sense. There was the new york that didn't make any sense. We'll we'll get to that But at Laurel that a nice van a nice steak weekend. Nice steak saturday with the francis and jalen journey gets put up over Wonder where craig is And developed a pair of asmussen wins but that francis the great three fergal lynch aboard and lynch also wrote captain bombastic The polynesian To a win hello beautiful for brittany russell and and you probably saw where you know sheldon sidelined. That was One of those you know one of those either uplifting or however you wanna however you want to characterize it kind of wins bittersweet and and brad cox In addition to she dares the devil dream a little dream of you Won the twist with heavy on toledo so the fact toledo one two of the stakes and then fergal lynch one. They were half opole removed from everybody. It was a good race. The the downs at albuquerque handicap. Pull that up. That was all right. That's one of the advantages.
