Summer RV Trip Challenges 2020

"Summer RV, trip faces unprecedented challenges this summer. And I know tell you something you didn't know right. I mean we're still in the middle of coronavirus. Pandemic camping and non essential travel is restricted in many places. Dangerous riots have erected across North American every major city in many smaller ones. The Canadian borders closed. There are safety concerns financial concerns seemingly a new crisis every day. So this week in the retie gas, we're GONNA talk about those summer RV trip challenges, and how you can make your rv travel is safe and is satisfying as possible given the very unusual circumstances under which we now find ourselves in the summer of twenty twenty. Hello, everybody and welcome to episode two ninety-seven, seven of the RV podcast and we do have a lot to talk about this week. We have RV news. We've got your questions. We've got an interview about how you can get around those summer RV trip challenges and still get your RV to Alaska by ship. We'll talk about that and our interview the week plus we've got tips and suggestions and a lot more but I my lifelong traveling companion McBride Jennifer. Hello, my dear Hello Michael. What a time we live in What time it is yeah. You know the one thing about coming to you from where we are now on Okaloosa island near Destin Florida for Walton Beach Florida that area is. The just to show you. How different is down here? You. Know what the lead story in the paper was today. The lead story was red snapper opening day, the opening day of red snapper season was yesterday, and the local paper was filled with photos from Destin, which is known as America's luckiest fishing village of The Red snapper catch this year and Got Me Hungry I think we should go out for fish tonight. At sounds really good and something else. That was normal was that when we were at the dog park? Today we saw a whole bunch of little kids in yellow t-shirts, getting off a school bus and they were having a picnic at the park and playing on the toys and doing what kids do. This is how life is supposed to be and You know what tumultuous times we live in I mean last week last week as we were do podcast. PODCAST, we were just starting to move out of the national lockdowns from the Krona virus pandemic, and we were saying last week, who could have seen such a terrible thing? And then this week we look at the wave of terrible riots and violence, sweeping the country in the wake of the protests over police brutality in the murder of George, Floyd, and Minneapolis, and we say who could have seen such destruction and pain or this podcast as you all know is about the RV lifestyle, but we certainly have to acknowledge the. Terrible time, we're living to right now Jennifer and I are optimistic by nature where people of faith in we know, many of you are as well and so we ask those of you who? Are the same to to join us in prayer for our nation I. Mean it certainly needs it now? none of us know what is next. That's I guess the lesson that we have certainly all learned this year together, but at the same time we believe that we can move forward when it comes to summer RV trip plants, but we have to do so recognizing the changes we face, and this will be a summer like no other. We've ever experienced, and that's all GonNa. Talk about a lot in this podcast. Said! We're still in Florida on Okaloosa. Island and we are planning a getaway camping trip next weekend, and then the week after barring the unexpected, which is certainly happening a lot. This year we plan to leave Florida, and after almost six months being down here and then head to our home in Michigan, which needs some attentions lawn, work and stuff like that and then hopefully. Resume some travelling. We have lots of plans for June and July and August travel and beyond that but. As we stay up with learned anything this time of the year. It's that those plans have to be flexible. Mike Scott. US inside information and trends that shape the lifestyle years. The RV newsworthy we, as we talk here on the RV podcast about summer RV trip challenges, let's start in Maine where a federal judge as upheld the governor or Maine's requirements that all out of state visitors be quarantined for fourteen days when entering the state to campgrounds were among several small businesses that filed a federal. Federal lawsuit saying the quarantine is unconstitutional for discriminating against out of towners. The governor permits main residents to go camping, but out of towners must be quarantined fourteen days before they can travel about the small businesses heavily dependent upon tourism, said this order was hurting them financially, and sought a preliminary injunction to lift the order as their lawsuit works its way through the legal process. While the injunction was not granted. The cases still in the early stages will keep you informed when we hear more. That's just one of this summer RV trip challenges this year, but despite the many concerns, one in four Americans plan to take some sort of an RV trip in the next twelve months to get that one in four of all Americans plan to take an RV trip in the next year, and this is according to a survey that was released last week from the RV Industry Association. The reason why so many wanted to travel is something. We've been reporting on the RV LIFESTYLE DOT COM blog and And that's because of covid nineteen is people shy away from airline travel? They are expressing concerns about staying in a hotel and more and more are buying and renting RV's and to do a summer RV trip in their self contained vehicle the national media is calling this. The Year of the RV and we've been telling you. This was coming and each week we hear about more people buying our vs camping trailers, sight unseen, and the demand remains very

"It's not you're not going to bat a thousand. You're not get any though. Y You yeah okay. So I've got a couple of other things. No one else that interviews you for this book is going to bring up these topics about that. They're in the book and I think they're awesome. I'm pretty sure one of them. They won't bring up. Everyone wants to talk in in life. About how we got to close the loops. We got open loops in your close loops trying to figure out how to close the loops. You're we got instantly open loops. Why August Kevin? I'm so glad you actually caught that. You're right I hadn't actually thought of it the way you're saying you're right. We spend all day like being productive checking things off making sure things were shut down. Here's the funny thing. Here's the reason that's important and why we actually want to create open loops in certain situations. The brain can't get rid of open. Loops it sticky. We things just percolate right. It's kind of like why tonight when I'm cooking dinner. The fact that I didn't send his one email but somebody is going to pop up in my brain. When I'm you know cooking hamburger meat like it. Just it makes no sense. That's why right and so it's either post it note. That's right right Fidel. Quite we try to close all those looks right. Write it down get it done. Figure out a plan. But here's the thing in most cases that's true but when it comes to innovation we can actually leverage that little tricky thing in our brain that it won't get rid of Okaloosa so if you've got a problem you're trying to Sol. You've got an opportunity. You're trying to unearth. You create an open loop in your brain. How do I figure out how to pivot in a time when things are so uncertain right? And that's actually I would say an open loop with what we're dealing with right now. Cove Nineteen griped. This being shaken. But if you just kept asking yourself that and just ask and asked eventually your brain's going to figure some stuff out because your subconscious mind is back there percolating on it so you don't even need to be sitting at your desk actively working on it all you need right is to plant the seed and let that open. Luke doing this job you are right. Kevin. You are the first person to ever ask me about that one and it is your your again. Never thought of it that way we do. We try to close loops. I want you to tell one or two in your brain. They're going to serve you later. Awesome now this one. May someone else. But maybe I'm ready for it. It's a question better or different. This is why this is really good. News for goodness me better or different. What do you have better a different? Yeah so let me share a story around this because you know I'm going for different better to me as a hamster wheel you're never gonna get off of so. Let's just very quickly talk about dollar. Shave club right and the subscription raisers if you've ever gone to the razor aisle in the grocery store you know that there are a million options and it's like one blade in a pit head to blades in a moisture stripped three blades. It Tame Steel Base and all the razor companies are trying to do is better each other. Right I'm GONNA be better. With one more blade one more pivot one more moisture strip and at the end of the day. Two things first of all all that does add noise and second. If I do something better Kevin you can out better me tomorrow. So why bother? So what about doing it differently in a meaningful way enter dollarshaveclub to the razors and suddenly they've built a subscription model around razors something. Nobody thought to do right. But it's different to me. Better is the hamster wheel. And someone's going to be trying to out better you every turn every time and you're constantly going to being like this leapfrog game with your competition. I would rather be different because different is where you win. You Win because you're meaningful and you stand out in the marketplace to your customers your clients your employees but you also win because you create a defendable barrier around you. It's really hard to catch job when you do things differently when infinite monkey urban wineries in Colorado created whining cans in their urban wine. Are you right? They make the wind downtown. They were one the first to do it. You better believe it took the competition years to catch up with them. Because that's a shift in manufacturing distribution in everything so and also actually let me ask you this Kevin if you think about the brands and businesses that you love and admire are they the ones that do it. Kinda of better than somebody else or they. The ones that really do it differently and speak to you. Well it's dirty and speak to us. And here's the other thing. None of us really know what better is anyway. Like we didn't even know what better on the razor is anyway right and let like do I need three blades? I don't even know that you could have five whatever to I. Want to end on that point. That what you just said about better different doesn't just apply to your products doesn't just apply to all applies to you as a leader by. She was a human by she as a parent applies to you in a hundred ways. We certainly can still learn from others. Of course one hundred percent and yet it doesn't have to be learning from other so that we can imitate. Rather how can we find our way to differentiate or be different in different different as we differentiate versus better? Yeah let's get is good news for me because something you said perks my interest. You said different as a leader and I don't want that's going to create an open loop in my head so that I want to close so I'd love to hear a story from your next. I think that's a really important point that it's not just about your product and service and I agree with you and I think innovation falls in that too. It's not just about putting a new product on the market. Innovation can be a process shift. It can be how you hire. How you brand how you talk. There's a lot of ways to be innovative but never thought about about different. So like give me a quick example of many interview you for a moment can be examiners so no you have to have you on your podcast your but I will say I'll say one thing for everybody in that is that there are principles that we know that if we apply as a leader will improve the their success because everything. We're doing a leader is about influencing others and so by definition if we apply the principles will have a better batting average right in every one of us can and should try to lead differently if we try to be something that we're not. We won't be alternately as successful so we have to find the way to apply the principles in a way that is uniquely ours mean that we should stop worrying and say well this is I lead. That is not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is the reality is we have to find our place cognisant of using the best profound principles that have been around forever and if we do those things then we have a chance to really be what we would call a remarkable leader. So I love that and thank you because I was like I want to explore that a little bit and I'm just going to add a layer to that which is to say what we found. Is that when people take our assessment particular leaders and discover whatever? Their power triggers are that they are able to bring even more of that uniqueness because they understand not just what makes them the unique but what value they can bring and what role. They can play on their team and to your point about uniqueness understand the uniqueness of their team so now. I'm being authentic about who I am as leader and being different and I'm allowing everybody on my team to be different absolutely so when you're not doing all this innovation stuff. What do you do for fun? Oh my gosh. So my favorite thing to do although it's a little bit tough right now. We didn't really get to dig into the conversation but I love to try new classes and new funding the new experiences thing. I guess it does come up all the time but I love Crawford. I do it all the time. I love my pal atomic exercise but really like I try every month to take a new class whether that's online or live or wherever I can. It just feeds my soul. It's so much fun and it improves. Everything that I do you know. I bring that new skill that new rewiring in my brain to everything. I just took a well in class. Which I'll show you. This is A dragonfly or was. Appoint a dragonfly that you welded welded so talking about new experiences and inputs into our brain. The question that I ask everybody on the show is. What are you reading? So what are you reading right now tomorrow so I'm about to finish up a book that I'm really appreciating almost already free by Bruce. Tetteh read it. So here's the thing. It's an interesting mix of Western psychology Buddhism and so you might classify it in the self help realm but it's a fascinating. Look at the different ways to help people move forward and I think a lot of what I do in my work for myself and for others is about living into potential. It's not just like how do I do my job better but it's how do I live up to my full potential. It's it's fascinating. There's a lot of interesting stuff in there about sitting in her feelings and realizing they're not gonNA hurt. You like fear risk right sitting in those be like. Oh this is what fear feels like when I take a risk in my innovate. And that's okay so already free. Love it right so while people should definitely get a copy of the book. How else can they learn more about you? Your work all the great online stuff. You guys are doing point people where they can. They get connected. You learn more about.

Camping during the coronavirus crisis

"During the time of great confusion in the In all of North America but particularly for our viewers who may be on the road wondering where to stay. We're GONNA talk about that in our interview the week coming up got. Lots of corona virus. News affects Our viewers and campers. And we've got Some RV questions and tips and lots more to talk about and This Very interesting week that we've all been through Thank you for tuning in this. Is Episode two eighty six of the RV podcasts? And we're delighted to have you with US joining me right now. Is My lifelong traveling companion. And my bride Jennifer. What a Week. It has bend my dear and what a week coming. We'll be yes. I think you're probably right. I mean a week ago. We were talking about this in rather vague. Maybe this thing is going to cause some confusion little disruption but look what happened between episode to eighty five and to eighty six in that week's period many state parks among them New Mexico which is usually very popular. This time of year with with folks had out on their first trips to the year or snowbirds perhaps finally Starting to move out from there warmer weather locations North Carolina Illinois as we record this on The seventeenth of March today. All One hundred and seventy five Florida state parks and they're campgrounds as well as many local parks in many other parts of the country all been closed to camping because of the corona virus schools ours restaurants. Movie theaters and businesses are shut down or have limited services pretty much nationwide. People are urged to stay home indoors and practice social distancing some places have total lockdowns further restrictions are threatened and leaders are urging people to postpone all discretionary travel which would obviously include our Wien. There are hundreds of thousands of our viewers already on the road. Where can they say until this? Immediate crisis has passed in our interview. The week we're going to talk about that With an industry expert. But even though the information that we're giving you is current as record this podcast on Tuesday. The seventeenth of March everything is changing daily. And sometimes hourly so our best advice to you right now is stay where you are or if you must try to find a private campground and then stay there. We are in our condo on Okaloosa island along the Florida panhandle 's Emerald Coast and It has been relatively normal down here. I mean yesterday. We were on the beach in airplanes. Were towing banners signs behind them for beachgoers Promoting the world's largest Saint Patrick's Day party at a Irish bar. Not Too far away from here. Spring breakers are down here. That was yesterday morning. Governor Florida came on and like in many other. Parts of the country ordered all bars and taverns and restaurants closed They can restaurants can stay open if they do take out. Or they limit the seating capacity but It's just Just crazy Like many of you. We had travel plans We were supposed to this week to be speaking at the RV entrepreneur summit up in Lake in Alabama. We've been looking forward to that. Like hundreds of other our viewers For for months now but like all RV rallies RV shows around the country and other events that event has been cancelled. It's been moved online and we'll put a link in the show notes Where you can virtually attend the RV entrepreneur summit but it's all online and the in person part of it has been canceled after that were planning to head to Texas New Mexico and Arizona but all those plans as with millions of others have have to be put on hold. So we're just kind of laying low down at the beach and that's not a bad place to be and we're you know we're weighing our response daily. We like the beach but we also like to be on the move and there's no indication yet how long this will last. Everybody was talking about two weeks. And now we're seeing reports that last until summertime and we're debating now whether we want to pick up and And head back north to our our Michigan home So it's nice to be in the warm Florida Sunshine. But I get pretty Ansi Stan someplace for two or three months and I think a lot of people are feeling the same way so by is we. We don't know where you are but we do know that we are all in this together.

Interview with White House Deputy Communications Director on Robert Mueller's statement

"President Trump says the case is closed Democrats say, just the opposite and speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi who has warned Democrats against pursuing impeachment said at an appearance in San Francisco yesterday that, quote, nothing is off the table. All this comes after special counsel, Robert Muller made his first public comments about the Russia investigation Muller repeated his central conclusion that Russia interfered in the twenty sixteen election in order to hurt Hillary Clinton. He also said out loud that the decision not to charge the president was not an exoneration as the White House claims if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime. We would have said, so. We did not, however make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime. Adam Kennedy, is deputy director of communications to President Trump, and he joins us now on the line. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. Thank you so much for Robert Mueller refused to clear the president's name in his remarks. Why does the president say case closed, because when wherever Muller refused to make a determination based evidence that forced the attorney general deputy attorney general step it make a decision and they did so without using the L C or any constitutional considerations to do it. And what they found was based on the evidence Muller gathered. There was no grants obstruction. So it's clear that this that this case is closed exonerated at Muller truly to the president had obstructed, he could've used his many opportunities to say while prevented from doing, so I would recommend to the SCO forward, but he has also as, as you just alluded to Robert. Moeller made it clear that a big reason that he was not able to articulate whether or not the president obstructed Justice is because the department of Justice rules prevent that from happening. Thereby nodding his head to the fact that this is a political decision at this point that whether or not to, to hold the president to account is something that should happen in congress. I actually just agree. I don't think it is political, I think when the special counsel doesn't make it a termination under the rules, which Muller knows very well. It then goes to deter general deputy attorney general and they did make a decision. They made it decision based on the evidence smaller gathered and without considering the constitutional questions or department of Justice regulation. I think it's very clear where the situation rest with no obstruction Okaloosa. We also do need to clarify the record, though. Neither the attorney general nor- Robert Mueller ever used the words, the president has been exonerated, typically what you charge somebody that's considered an exoneration Robert Muller could have made a recommendation could have said congress should take this up. It's not a he said, both things, but he chose not to he left it to the general, the general conclusion, it is actually is actually a separate issue. It's not the same thing to not bring charges not the same thing as being exonerated. But we're going to have to leave that to the side. I wanna ask as the president read the mole report. You know, I'm not gonna get into how much the president how much the presence time spent on this. He certainly followed the case, the investigation, and I think he all along with conclude, they wanna play a bit of rubber Muller in his remarks yesterday. Let's listen to this Russian intelligence officers who are part of the Russian military launched a concerted attack on our political system. The indictment alleges that they use affiliated cyber techniques to hack into computers and networks used by the Clinton campaign. They stole private information, and then release that information through fake online and identities. And through the organization, Wicky leaks. The releases were designed and timed to interfere with our election and to damage a presidential candidate does the president now except that conclusion, the president said all along that people have attempted to interfere with our elections. But that it happened on his behalf. Fortunate that the previous what hasn't happened on his behalf. Robert more devices. To hurt Hillary to his benefit. But let's be clear to say on his behalf is to suggest that he this to happen. It was the previous administrations allowed this to happen. The president taken serious considerable steps to make sure it doesn't happen in the future. So no, I wouldn't say it happened on his behalf. We should also say there is no evidence of this point as to whether or not the previous administration opened any doors to this at all. Can you say explicitly whether or not the Trump campaign will accept or even solicit help from Russians in the twenty twenty campaign? I worked for the president. I'd states that don't work for the campaign where you can say, is that the president can serious steps including closing facilities, including, including two checking Russian personnel from this country sanctions to make sure that this doesn't happen again. The future where strengthening our election system. We're working with states and local authorities to make sure that this travesty previous ministration allow happened again. There is no. Evidence to that effect. Adam Kennedy, we've been stop it from happening, that's for another conversation. But at this point there is no evidence of the previous administration having any responsibility for that. Adam Kennedy White House deputy communications director. Thank you for your

Why don't we fire Muller or saying that I hope that general Flynn doesn't get in trouble or this is ridiculous to fire sessions well to fire Rosen's, but he didn't do any of it. He's venting. "A because it reflects the actual value of your home in the eyes of your tax collector. Let's talk property taxes. Now, we're the pro. Ben is a real tour emeritus having worked with buyers and sellers for forty two years before dedicating all his time to his duties as tax collector, then how are you? I'm doing absolutely terrific today. And it's just wonderful to be here with fellow realtors. And homeowners across America, Ben, we're delighted that you're with us. Now, I question how is my tax Bill created? Well, that's a great question. And and I think often a big question that people want to know, your local tax Bill is created by a blended effort between local government is trying to determine their budget and the property assessor. Value on each parcel under county. They join me well established the tax Bill on your property got it. But here's another question. Ben, why is it that the assessed value of my house is always lower than the appraised value of my house. Well, and there's kind of a common acceptance and government and taxation in that they attempt to give you a net after sale the and negotiation bag so oftentimes you're going to find that your property assessor will take anywhere from fifteen to twenty five percent off the top depending on the market that you're in. And that's where the big difference comes down. So they tried to arrive at a fair value based on a net fail. You've just taught me something. I never knew that the assessment was considered a net price. That's. Very interesting. Ben, tell us about the homestead exemption. We encourage all of Americans to own a home. It's the American dream on home and intern government rewards that by giving you a deduction against your best value for owning that home, and that can be a big deduction it is and in many areas, it's around twenty five thousand here in Florida that's been increased under base twenty five plus certain conditions that folk into another twenty five for total fifty thousand dollar auction that comes directly off of the assessed value of what the topic praise. Your put on your home. Ben if I come into your office and say, I want to appeal my property tax Bill can I win. Yeah. Sometimes absolutely has always prepared. What's your estimation? A steady with your approach on it and be diligent and underlining to the truth of watch your property is worth as an individual property and not it's under the tide with all the property appeal directly with the facts and feel it like this Ben has anyone ever come to you and said my property taxes are too low, sir. I do not hear that. Look at that. As the justified American. Ben, it's always a pleasure talking to you. Thanks for joining us today. Thank you, so much pleasure to be with you. "And I did do the Okaloosa county superintendent of schools today, we suspended her replaced her with somebody that it will do a much better job. And. So I don't know that. I would obviously be something that I would want to make sure I have the authority to do. So I was in the US congressman when this happened in any Andy can tell you he came up, and we the thing that was probably most frustrating to me is why wasn't anybody at the FBI fired. When this happened you had a tip that came in twenty seventeen about this guy. He was on the radar is in the system, and then in January of two thousand eighteen you get one of the best most thorough tips that you could possibly get they actually matched this individual to the previous complaint. They didn't pick up the phone and call anyone down here. The field office the sheriff's department. They did nothing. It was a complete dereliction of duty. And yet months and months later when I had Andy up there, they wouldn't even meet with us. They wouldn't meet with Andy at first until we put pressure and to this day. I'm not sure that they've been held accountable. I know they were. Were reassigned somewhere else? But to me that's a bureaucratic to step. You never fire. Anyone you just past the problem off to some other part of the bureaucracy. It's unacceptable, and I think how the FBI handled this was a disgrace. And if you at least fire the people who could have acted in didn't we would actually at least be able to say, okay, at least accountability. But there's been non obviously as governor. I don't have the authority to to do that. But if the congressman I was very insistent that that happened. Well, so.
