"It, the all star break ends tomorrow tonight's the last night you don't look at your app and see me kicking somebody's ass in our face. So your break ends tonight. As well. Or ends tomorrow. Tonight, your last night of not looking at your app and go, this guy, again, this team again. Oh my God. We got the whole second half of the season. That ends, that ends, I wish there were games tonight. We actually only have like a month left of the season. That's it. Listen to Washington wise investor to hear the stories making news right now. Host Mike Townsend, Charles Schwab's vice president for legislative and regulatory affairs takes a nonpartisan look at the stories that matter most to investors. Mike and his guests offer their perspective on how policy changes could affect what you do with your portfolio. Download the latest episode and follow it Schwab dot com slash Washington wise or wherever you listen. Well, Mike circling back to Russell Wilson. It seems like the worry in Seattle is that if the team comes up short of his expectations, again, this year, he's going to want out. Do you think that's a fair read on the situation? I think so. It's very tough for people. I think to understand this from Russia's view and I'm very good at putting myself in someone else's shoes, even if I don't think their logic adds up, which is somewhat of the case here. You got to look at this from Russ's view. Like, dude, I've been to the Pro Bowl gazillion times. I keep balling out despite the fact that I don't always have the best skill position players. I very rarely have very good offensive linemen. It feels like, again, he's the artificial intelligence. He's realized, I can get this done. I can function without someone telling me what to do or calling the shots or pulling the strings. And so if he knows he can be great, essentially with whoever the offensive coordinator is, whoever they had coaches, why would he need to stay here in particular where the offensive philosophy is not necessarily catered to his strengths, at least what he believes? He has a defensive minded coach who hasn't had a great defense since 20 16? So if we're not going to have an offense that really helps me out, and you defensive mind ahead coach aren't gonna be good at coaching the defense for who, for what? What am I here for? Now whether that's an oversimplification or a bit like flawed view of the situation, doesn't matter. What matters is that that's someone else's reality, if that's Russ's reality, then we have to treat that as such. And we're going to try to predict his behavior. I don't see a world where if Russell Wilson comes back, president a super high level and they lose in the wild card round in the divisional round for the same reasons that they've fallen short in previous years. I don't see how it Russ sees a reason to want to stick around for that. You know, he's chasing the greats. It's a guy who went to the Super Bowl, two of his first three years in the league. And the last time he lost, he lost a Tom Brady. Who's been there in gazillion times since, including the most recent one. So if Tom Brady can do it, why not rush? Even if that's irrational, that's how rust sees it. He just built a school, not too far from where I'm sitting called the why not you academy, right? Idea of things is if someone else can do it, why not me? Why not? Why not us? And so because he views it that way, I don't see how falling short this year leads to Russian Pete running it back in 2022. Well, so the clock is ticking and the next matchup in this critical stretch of games is, as you mentioned, Monday night in Seattle against the saints, what are the keys to Seattle pulling off this win? I really think they have to make the saints punch one handed. Like the saints aren't the Drew Brees, saints right now, at least not statistically. Alvin Kamara is second in the league in rushing attempts per game behind only Derek Henry, who runs the ball approximately 725 times a night. So the saints really are saying, we're going to play Pete Carroll ball. Let's play good defense and let's hand it to Alvin Kamara 25 times a game or whatever. But if you can take away Alvin, if you can make it so Jameis Winston, perhaps the most volatile quarterback of the modern era has to beat you on Monday night in a road game, then the Seahawks have a better shot. It regardless of how genome performs just because just like I said, Gino Smith needs to avoid the big mistake. Jameis Winston is a big mistake waiting to happen, man. Dude, you think he broke the single season record for pick 6s in 2019, which is really hard to do through 30 interceptions. Just really hard to do. So other than Gino playing well, that is the key there. Make Jameis Winston have to be the guy to beat you on the road and Monday Night Football. Yeah, I think Jameis Winston hears us calling Geno Smith mistake prone. And he's like, oh yeah, watch this. Yeah, man, 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in one year. That is hard to do because he makes big time throws. I think pro football focus tracks like they have two very interesting stats. It's big time throws, and turnover worthy plays. So that accounts for like if you throw it to a defensive back and he drops it. He drops the interception. That's still a turnover worthy play. It just wasn't a turnover 'cause he has hands like a snake, right? But so Jameis is good at both of those. He will make a big time throw. Like, wow, I can't believe he made that throw. That's why he was the number one overall pick in 2015. And then he makes another throw. It's like, I can't believe he was the number one overall pick in 2015. So Seattle needs to force more of the latter than the former. And Gino Smith just has to honestly play it safe by comparison in Seattle should win. All right, well, finally, Mike, we're going to let you write a cinematic ending to this Seahawks season. Keep in mind that the majority of Hollywood movies have a happy ending, okay? And that we are imagining Geno Smith as the unlikely hero, how could this whole thing end? I think I'm going to borrow from a movie script in this and ended with. And a movie now, I just think that's how it began. And borrow from the heist movie dinner thieves, which is like a deceptive movie because I'm about to spoil this here. I'm sorry guys. The movie has a protagonist whose character's name is ray Merriman. He creates the crew when they do the highest and they're going against Gerard Butler's character. He's the antagonist he's the DEA agent. That's after them. Perfect high speed we set up. You watch the whole movie, it goes well. You get to the end. And you're like, wow. Where did O'Shea Jackson junior's character come from? And I think that represents Geno Smith. And then as you watch the movie, again, 'cause one of those you have to watch a second time once you get to the end, you start looking for all these clues that tell you wait a minute. This isn't a movie about ray married. This isn't a movie about Gerard Butler's character. This movie is about O'Shea Jackson junior the unlikely hero. And I think that is how in a perfect world, this goes for genome script in particular. You know, he becomes the real protagonist. He becomes the leader, which is what osha Jackson junior's character was in that movie. And he goes on to glory, so to speak, you know, and at the end of that movie, they tease that they're making identities too, starring O'Shea Jackson junior and if your genome Smith on a one year deal, hoping to become a starter again. Leading the Seahawks of victory, hitting free agency and cash in a fat check would be the perfect scenario. So that is how bring it all back full circle with the movie analogies. Genome Smith is OJ Jackson junior thieves. Mike, thanks for breaking this down for us and now as we await Monday Night Football. I think there's only one thing to do. Got to go back to the beginning of this conversation. I'm gonna go fire up some old sci-fi movies. Yeah, yeah, or dental thieves. I know I swallowed it, but it is a very good movie. There's time. It might be able to do all this. You can follow all of Michael Sean duggar's Seahawks coverage and check him out on the Seahawks man to man podcast at the athletic dot com. "There's there's a whole umbrella of blackness is not just one thing that's why. Oj jackson came. Make a contract for black america. That doesn't include stuff that isn't women or include black black gay people didn't include black trans people all property. That's all he cared about. It's like you like no mental health. Services has no better like like. Let's talk about food deserts mostly black and like or just urban areas but let's say black because that's which i think urban and blackman the same damn thing hello urban radio that same but nothing about health nothing about mental health nothing about education nothing nothing except give us houses and money like this monopoly. Yeah late yeah yeah yeah give us marlin avenue. Oh okay and and honestly the against your point there are. There are so many first of all even if all black people free right if we get all the funeral for black people the black trans of black gay. People still won't be free if we that free. Everybody's not free. We're nobody's for grad. He's free doing this. And then can the the other thing that we really need to remember as well. Is that the divisiveness within ourselves to an extent. There's some some devices that needs to be needs to happen. 'cause like blattman man been fucking out for a long time and i'm i'm here for black women just dragging shit out of black man. I'm here for it. But he liked the union. Do you need mabro. Do you need my shovel. i can help you. i'm here did. Oh i am here for it. But the thing that could cause honestly it's needed but the divisiveness between Black people who experienced intersex analogy and black people who do not doesn't need to exist because ultimately those black people experience it intersection analogy are still experiencing blackness. Just in a different way is just a different intensity..

"People make load management jokes. I appreciate that. Welcome back to the show. I love when the rich eisen show in the archives and employs old interviews. Which did that one was with. Oj jackson junior. Who's the second-biggest lakers fan in los angeles. Right now. Side from diehard lifelong fan. I remember being at the forum. All those nights jack and sharon wolfgang goto when it was on sunset when spago on sunset. We used to go all the time i remember. Tv instead symbolics. Give you his sneakers. After he had with thirty point. Game once i want time got threes. Athletic tape gave it to me after the game. The memories you have as a child nick. Nick van axel memories campbell. You're collecting sedan. Three tape and i was getting taped from you know other things. Never many memories. Ben minds rich on the rich eisen. Show campbell elden campbell. Number forty one in your program. Ladies and gentlemen. I remember a c green. Used the used to like tutor you and math back. Yeah absolutely. I used to get tutors. Math from a c green used to go over and learns off. French from michael thomson of these memories. I have as a diehard laker fan growing up in los angeles. The guys were just around living. It's insane that i'm saying any of this. Because i'm mike brockman. My skin is crawling however my love of carmelo is just so strong that i have no choice but to purchase toys. You this you have free will best. This man came to new york when no one else would took them to. the playoffs. Dropped forty against the celtics and the playoffs gave the heat. Fifty is a legend built a statue of him. Maybe in his backyard. But we'll build it somewhere. He's gonna play twelve minutes a game and go to for eight every single night. You know when eight ten last night and was a bucket was brianna stewart. I don't know if you guys watched women last night. But she was incredible. And what's awesome about. St louis is that she's off the achilles just like kevin durant it. Kevin durant his achilles exploded took a year off and then came back and was incredible and was amazing that the time we saw him on the court and the nba the season game seven of course against the box of his foot being a little too big otherwise. He's going to the finals. And then he goes out and balls out in the olympics away. He's doing the same thing. she does. Credible man she won the mvp tour. Kelly's then comes back wins the wnba championship and is now doing work in the olympics. The two of them are star-crossed in some ways just team achilles gang and at time when an injury was like that was often the end of a career or your career taken a different path or going down a different road to them or at the height of their powers to best american basketball players on the planet showing out in the olympics. Time big time and doing off torn achilles she tour achilles twenty nineteen and now she's out there hooping like that so there's so many great stories on the olympics athlete to overcome stuff to them the way they're doing it right at the top list of accomplishments like you ran down a little bit like instagram picture of her wearing all her rings. It was like bill russell. She had eleven rings. We're talking to time. Wnba champion two time yukon mvp of the finals yukon championships rookie of the year. I she. I think all the way back to high school she went. I think four straight. If i'm not mistaken in high we so dope about players like stuey or k. d. Is that when you hear the coaching staff. Dawn staley or popovich for for the manner. You hear their teammates and they talk about these games analyze them and they say oh. Yeah but we also have brianna stewart. And that's different. But there's the kevin durant factor and he's just different and that's what he is. They go to semi. Final game against serbia. Coming up in about forty eight hours or so or or tomorrow. I don't even know when these games are just on a loop so hard to track. I'm like clockwork orange. And they have my eyeballs open. Just watching. I realized gold just to keep me informed because it's so hard to a huge win. They beat australia last night. Route twenty four point win and that was an ozzy team that beat them a month ago in of the olympic additional exhibition round. So who's ever doing the press releases by the way for team. Usa basketball a plus. Brianna stewart's twenty. Three points leads team. Usa as they decide what happens in vegas stays in. I'm reading windhorst right now. He's over there so it's like they're playing really well. They look like they kind of figured out. What was them you know early in the tournament. Kind of like the men's side you know Relying a lot on kevin durant and team. Usa has australia man's tonight. Twelve ten am eastern nine something on the west nine o'clock west coast action. So that's good for us out here but Curious to see because at australia's team joke on on the women's side and the men inside the men's side of course with patty mills signing to brooklyn which is a big deal after the show Joe ingles dante. Exum and australia has been building a nice program down under you know. I told you guys. I go down to australia for a mileage run. That's how you know you're baller folks when you just go right was survive that get on the plane turn left instead of right sometimes been. What's that like other in diamond. It's a very important. Yes so don't wanna mess the diamond status. I went down to australia. Quick seventy two hours in bondi beach and i was just amazed at the love of basketball that existed down there. You can feel it the the the professionally there. The national team the men and women and more nba players from australia. Than than we've seen and it's gonna be a tough match for the men. I think and the women seem again. St louis Is their best player. But they've had to overcome some stuff. You know the controversy around. Nikko mckay joining the team. Elena delle don has been a staple in usa basketball. She's been injured with back stuff so they they're kind of an interesting transition. Skyler diggins with her first olympics chelsea gray. But they're making a work. Asia wilson talent and just to watch studio eight of ten for twenty three points. Very kevin durant that line. I mean it doesn't get much more efficient than eight of ten for twenty three points at twenty in the first half like she's not seven of seven of eight start the game. Yeah so big. Brianna stewart fans just the fact that both of these places to best men and women in american basketball right now are eighteen months off achilles tears. It's remarkable that's their therefore to to their strength perseverance. Modern medicine all of it. That's the big thing modern medicine because like you said twenty years ago. that's it. This is iraq you know remember. Dominique wilkins tore his achilles occurs over but he did come back. I think he had twenty points season after. Fm not mistake added went on and played in greece. It wasn't the same. And he's the one traditionally an achilles was sort of the beginning of the end if not the end itself. Yeah at some of them thinking about. When i'm on the golf course brockman and i are gonna go play tomorrow and went on raking. The sand trap are coming down a hill. That's what would happen right. I'd come in here on friday with my foot on the thing but what happened guys tour. My achilles travel with what happens in this stage ain't just suck it up. Go to that foul line shoot foul shots and then take care of your gerald The phone real quick. Let's set up our buddy jeff in detroit is also sharing your love for camilla jeff. What's happening brother. What was going omarosa..

Dan line it just awful All the sudden you pull the plug in the playoffs and it's over and we were just getting up ahead of steam and we're just getting excited and now we're out in the first round Lose last night to phoenix and terrible in the first half tried to come back in the second-half not enough. Oj jackson jr. called lakers and five as deny and he joins us now shea. What is up man. What's going on you guys you know. I'm chilling still lovely gay. Los angeles don't let it hold you down too much. Let these single digit championship peasants teams. Ori we'll see all right. I still got seventeen up now. You've been in several excellent films. You've won a lot of awards. Your career is taking off. The fact that you were placed in the gone fishing slide by tnt. Where does that rank among your career achievements. That's that's exactly what i'm talking about. It was such an honor to see me. Oh it means that i'm making. I'm making my move john. They recognize a real laker when they want. And this is just all towards My goal being the number one laker fan in the city jack nicholson. I'm coming for your spot. Oh say jack nicholson aviv. Your the new one. Oca jack nicholson rakes. Up there like michael calling himself black nicholas on the gulf. What happens j. You know I talked to you guys a couple of weeks ago and michael thompson has pay who you know who am. I worried about the most. And i told him. It was the lakers Health complete complete. help when you only have seventy one days in your off season no team has ever faith that as a champion let alone an entire league. Sort off season in indy history. And if you look the final four of the bubble. The nuggets heat lakers. They all were punished. For how law. We were in the bubble Lakers been battling injuries. Boston was never the same team. Miami couldn't even get a game off against the bucks tyler. Heroes been garbage all year and then the nuggets lost Jamal murray now. They're so stack that they're doing just fine against You know they passed the portland. Well yeah it is what it is. Injuries caught up with us. But you know now. We have a a regular off season and get a d. some yoga. I don't know what the yoga coacher was. In new orleans we got some gurus out los angeles we bat come on get ready so sharing. I the thing that bothered me about last night and see if it if it bothered. I just thought first. Half no energy urgency sleepy no fight second after they came on fire and they tried. They tried to climb back into that game. But i think there's no excuse for what they did in the first half last night. Yeah definitely no excuse whatsoever. I feel like once they saw after. Go down a couple of them Started making off these plans over that you know we got. We need to see some fights something Another thing a superficial reason is you know i've been watching these playoff games and arena is just not loud enough you know. We just never had the same feeling that you know. A couple of these places have maximum capacity. I understand why we can't have that but yeah it's easy to go to sleep when you got either lighting and it's nothing but suits in you know we we. We needed to to rally behind our guys but they needed to show up to. I feel like they got discouraged. When ad went dow- but now you know. Switch up the game plan. Like i was saying anthony davis. You've got a teammate. Lebron james who spends a million plus just on his body every year. You know you gotta we have to see that same type of work ethic because you get the keys to franchise pretty much in the next couple of years and you know we need to have confidence that we know how dominant you could be you. Can we know you to death. Big man in the league if you can be on the court and that's the same thing with our team we couldn't get healthy and you know that's that was our downfall at the end of the day o shea going back to the last thing you said. Is it as simple as that that you go back over. The history of the nba and injuries determine the title a lot. You know a few years ago. Both kevin kyri went down two years ago. Klay thompson kevin durant went down was this just are kern did injuries. Because if you look at this series when when lebron james and anthony davis were on the court together we were plus fourteen over the sons. I mean we were. We were in good shape and probably headed to the second round. Is it as simple as injuries. Costas are run and we should probably not overreact or is there more to it than that. No absolutely absolutely i put it on. Put it on injuries. Also when you have so many new pieces to your roster and they're not just you know we weren't just adding guy for the end ended the bench. We're adding people to new role cow. Who's alone had to switch his role three to four different times in this year. So you know. There was a lot of things as far as chemistry goes that we needed to work when we all can't be on the floor for the entire year. It's hard to get that. That was one of the beautiful things about our team. Last year was. Our chemistry was playing together for that whole year through training camp. You bring in a big piece like andre drummond towards the end of the year and you're trying to fit him in and see how he works next to a guy like anthony davis was a number of things that we just couldn't get right. We couldn't match logging up to going at the ron and then in the first while you have a major injury like that to somebody who's already hobbling yeah. It was a recipe for disaster. I don't wanna fast. If he worried about this or let these other fans try to get you all rattle john. I was begging for andrew. Gal locked minute. I was in brandon burger. They were five six years. We're not even in it bro. There was a kind where our lineup was all colors. We have standard blue anthony brown to reach i. I am not worried right now. I dreamed of times like this..
