Will Big Ten be next conference to cancel its fall college football season?

"To what Was reported earlier today by Pete Family. Another mid American conference today. They've already canceled their false sports schedule. They say they're going to try to play college football in the spring. According to Pete Family. Big 10 presidents are meeting today they are considering or that what is on the table. Is that they would cancel football for the fall, impossibly moved to spring. Gordon. What we see from the Big 10 commissioner. There are reports out that he Courtesy of the Detroit Free Press. The Big 10 commissioner prefer spring college football season. Now let me break this down in a couple of different ways won a lot of people going to talk about covert. We are obsessed with covert. We're talking about Cove. It rightfully so in a lot of ways, That's something that we should take seriously. I have to remain cynical. I have to remain Questioning these type of things, because I think there's something else at hand here. And I'm not getting a lot of pushback on it. And I know that they bring up the spring schedule and I I hope it's about covert. I hope it's about health. I hope it's about the safety of people involved. I really do hope it's about that. I do. But I'm just not convinced it's all about that. I think that Yeah, they do care someone about it. Yes, sure. Absolutely. More. I think about this, the more I think that there is a turd on that punch bowl, and that turd was laid in there or around this time last week when the Pac 12 had their players have a list of demands. Even to the Pac 12 presidents. I got a bad feeling that that's part of this. You know, the big 10. Some of those players followed suit. I just thought it was really interesting that today I see a report. Courtesy of ESPN is well, a stadium that Big 10 players from the Ohio State University have said, Hey, we're good. We love the guidelines. We are ready to play. It happens today as the president's air about Teo me of the Big 10. Something doesn't seem right. Something seems a little off. So it makes me wonder about that type of thing. If this is about and I do think there's a percentage of it what it is. I'm not sure there. There is a concern about people. There's a concern about health and safety. And it will. Certainly I'm sure we'll get the people in here so they can. They're 22 year old athletes. They're they're healthy horses. They'd be perfectly fun. I know, man. I know more than likely. Yeah, they'd be perfectly fine. And we've been talking about it for a while. It takes is one even if it were one. I don't know if that were to happen, Hell. My gosh, This is an ugly conversation have but we have to have it is that there are guys who die of heatstroke every year. In high school and college football, and it keeps going And I would wonder even if a person were to die from this in college football. It would maybe keep going. But when we're talking about a list of demands from players where they want compensation, where they want equitable treatment. Wonder if that's a little bit too much for the university presidents. They think, Okay, we'll wait. Maybe we'll wait till spring.

Ohio Gov. Tests Negative for COVID-19 Hours After Positive Result

"Governor Mike Dewine tested negative for corona virus just hours after another test registered a positive result raising concerns over the accuracy of Cova tess governor wine first tested positive yesterday morning. Using a rapid antigen tests with allows for results in minutes, but has been shown to be less accurate that test was part of the protocol for those greeting president trump on the tarmac airport in Cleveland Governor Dewine. Then returned to Columbus and took a second test. From Ohio, State University's Medical Center this time using a more standard procedure known as P., C. R. and results came back negative in the evening that second test which looks at these specific genetic material for the virus is known to be more sensitive and accurate, but more time intensive, and it requires sales to be processed in a lab. Wine sample was run twice and came back negative both times, Jonathan. Lemaire, you're on that trip your with the president right now, traveling this test was administered because governor dewine was going to greet president trump on the tarmac there in Ohio. What were the ripple effects of that News Air Force One? Good Morning I'm today in new. Jersey, don't be too jealous not far from the president's Bedminster Golf Club where he is spending a three day weekend, but you're right yesterday we landed here last late last night. From Ohio and perhaps not in the first line of my career obituary will note that I was in the room when the president said. But yeah. But more than that, it's the governor and that initially initial test. Shadowed the entire trip, the president spent the day at Ohio, which in itself, of course, was noteworthy state that he won handily in two thousand sixteen. But this time around did the polling shows about Joe. Biden shows you president trump diminished standing in this race that he has to spend time resource energy in states like Ohio. Yesterday, he was in. Texas, last week having to play defense and it was as we. We were about to take off from Washington on Air. Force One. When we got news, the governor had tested positive and he no longer will be able to be there on the tarmac when we landed. Of course, he wasn't there president was greeted in Cleveland by other other officials, other representatives I addressed briefly saying that he thought the governor would hopefully would be okay, but it goes to show you the entire. Centered around a speech. The president touted his economic policies He turned toward a whirlpool factory in Ohio, Tout American manufacturing in its rebirth under his watch although, of course. American. Manufacturing sector has really stalled by in the last year or two. But. He chose he can never outrun the virus everything was trying to yesterday and then included a fundraiser as well was shadowed by this, and then of course, last night after we landed here in New Jersey, we got second test proved negative, but it raises questions about the accuracy of these tests and includes those White House. If you remember Texas last week Congressman Gohmert was going to be on the Air Force One. He wasn't because he tested positive. Seems like subsequent tests indicate that as well. But this causes the question. Everyone comes into contact with the president that includes his. Medic officials on the road that includes reporters at the white. House before the one, I took that same test yesterday, the governor wanted in Ohio. We're all screen, and now this has been number of high profile. Cases, governor. But also staffers and reporters where there's been a false negative at first were a false positive. It calls into question just how accurate and safe. All these tests are for anyone including those traveling with commander in chief.

"Offer combo feel single item at regular Price. Three. By the way, that's the code to fight Tyson. I don't need to cut I beat him, but he fights in charge today. Let's make that an out. Let's remember. That's right. He does funny. Yeah, he fights a shark today and I don't know. I guess the beginning of Shark week or whatever it is, but I think there's a lot of things I've gambled on boys, including seventh grade club girls volleyball in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm not proud of it, but I'm not. I don't know what the line would be. I would imagine they'd be shark minus 2 50 over Tyson. I think that's the thing that's the money play. Is there a line yet? The last time I looked, it was even for Roy Jones. Junior Tyson, like I thought I saw even like even lying to start. I'm like that's okay. I'll check that. But, Peter, you're the football guy, man. You're the college football, guys. See you looking all handsome in your suits on talking college football SEC Network. What's gonna happen here, man? I know the announcement this morning. Mac. Calm weather Did the Mac Conference is done? I mean, I know those air, not big college football teams. But is the sec going to follow is is Big 10. The Big 12 A CC. Do you feel like this is a Domino bed Story Abdominal act. Well, it's not good, right? I mean, this is the first F B s. You know the big time conferences to decide to shut down, and ultimately I think what came down to is that when all of the power five conferences traditionally for the most part, got rid of their quote, unquote by games, for instance, you know, there were Mac team that we're getting a boatload of money to play Michigan or play Ohio State. They had 21 of those games and won. They got canceled. And once the Big 10 decided we're all going to play Conference versus conference. Then I think the commissioner had a look at the Mac and go. All right, is it Is this in the best way like now that we're losing all of this money? Is it worth all the money to make sure that we're extremely 100% state that these kids can play this college football season two where we feel comfortable. And the honest matter of it is that the smaller conferences right now can't do the same testing and can't do the same things as maybe the larger conferences. Can. I'm not saying that. No, it stinks. But that's really the reality of what's happening in college football. So now the bigger picture is that does this create the domino effect? You know, there was a lot of hubbub on Twitter saying, Hey, Shut down all sports as of next week. Everything is going to shut down. I just think that's impossible. I I think the idea that all college sports shut down is absurd because there's been too much hard work from the players, the coaches, the universities and health officials to try to pull this off. To punch when you're still a fool, You know, Mother six weeks out of the start of the season and listen, I'm the stupidly an optimist at times, but We don't know what the fourth quarter of this year Soto holds. We don't know if there's going to be better treatments or vaccines on the horizon. You must be an optimist, right And just think positive about it to blanket statements say it's all done. Just seems it just sucks. But Peter, let me ask you from a from a sports culture standpoint, right? You know you you talk to a nation. Of diehard college football fans. We've seen the MBA go into the bubble There was, you know, months by the way we saw, by the way, what was what was some ridiculous, like over $150 million to make happen. Something ridiculous like that, right? No, that perspective. You looked at baseball start up late, and fans were bummed because the players and the owners were arguing about it. I don't think anything compares to football, the college football culture. NFL Sundays. Do you agree that this is a way bigger hit on like the psyche of a fan versus the other sports? Well, I go in not only the psyche of a fan, but let's take the fans of the equation because the most important thing, especially when talking college is a student athletes. Now let's break it down. Everyone's talking about what happens to the athletic department in the money and this and that that goes around. But what about the psyche of the players that have worked on their whole life that by the way, 99% of them want to play like there's 10,000 FBS players right now, Only 45 of them have opted out 99.5% of them that we understand. And if there is a season, we'd like to play it and I think you saw Trevor Laurence come out on Twitter. These guys do want to play and I think a lot of these players going to be voicing that opinion. But It's about making it state. But the psyche of the players is all right. So let's say that you shut down everything now, all of these kids they've college football players they live right now on on campus. They get unbelievable Nutrition. They get personal training. They get the best health. They get the best. Um, you know, medical guidance right now. And the best, you know, you know, facilities for tutors and stuff. All of a sudden, you're just gonna cut him loose and say I'm sorry. We're just shutting it down. We're not going to any school, and now they go back to God only knows wherever, and they don't have the opportunities that they had on campus like Again. There is a special side of this that I think that's why so many of the players they know little. We want to try to play college football. Peter there There is a part of this that you are pointing out that Camino and I always talk about how this is. Couch sports allows certain kids to change the stuff. They're family stars like true. You make it to the N B. A. B NFL that changes the whole family trajectory of of generations. Right thes these kids like you said, you know, Trevor Laurence is a one in a 1,000,000 type of guy, but even him, So what happens if there's no football dizzy chill for a year and then go straight to the NFL, or is he play football again in college ever like Skip behaviour like face? Yes, skipping a year flows off everything like it throws out there. All right, So don't even think about college football players, right where they're those air. Those relevant facts. What about I like college golf? What about the college golfers? What about women's volleyball? You know women's volleyball, Or what about women's soccer and all these other sports that are propped up right now by college football, So I mean, it's a very complex situation..

Could Science Build a Better Grain?

"The ever increasing need to feed Earth's growing population and not always cautious ways that we grow our food are some of the factors that have put our plants environment in peril. Farming accounts for nearly a quarter of human emissions that are warming the atmosphere, and as much as half of that comes from plowing the soil to grow crops, such as wheat, corn and soybeans, which releases carbon, dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, the latter byproduct of fertilizer use, but researchers have been working on ways to reduce the harmful environmental effects of agriculture. One potentially promising innovation is a grain the goes by the trademarked name, her Kneza like familiar grains it can be made into flour for use inbred breakfast, cereal, and other foods, and also as an ingredient in products, ranging from beard ice cream. But unlike many other grains, Kerns is a perennial plant meaning that once it's planted. It'll keep coming back up year after year. It doesn't have to be replanted from scratch year, so it cuts down on labor. In addition, Kerns a has a deep root system it reaches over ten feet or three meters into the soil, and may help to sequester or capture atmospheric carbon that root system could also make more resistant to the impact of drought related to climate change in some areas. Currency was picked by the Land Institute a Salina Kansas based organization founded in Nineteen, seventy, six, the founder West Jackson recognized that a big problem of modern agriculture was that it was wearing the soil by focusing upon monoculture, growing a single crop in a certain area as that practice intensified on modern farms. It's destructive. Downsides became more and more evident in the form of erosion and worn out soil that required increasing amounts of fertilizer, creating increasingly polluted groundwater Jackson saw the development perennial grains to replace annual ones as a vital part of the solution to those problems. The Land Institute's website explains given that grains makeup over seventy percent of our global caloric consumption and over seventy percent of our. Our global croplands, transitioning from an extractive annual model to a perennial model is the best chance we have create truly regenerative food future, but developing new food crops is difficult and time intensive challenge back in Nineteen ninety-three scientists at the Rodale Institute and Other Research Organization identified a plant called intermediate wheat grass species related to wheat as a promising candidate that might be developed into a perennial grain. They worked with researchers from the United States. Department of Agriculture to breed the plant and improve its fertility and seed size in two thousand and three, the Land Institute began working with intermediate wheat grass as well after years of breeding the plant. They developed Kerns the trade name for their variety. In some ways, the process of developing a new crop hasn't changed much since prehistoric times. It involves breeding generation after generation of a plant taking the best from each new batch, and reading them together an effort to promote whatever desirable characteristics your seeking, however plant breeders these days have some tools that the ancients lacked the land institute employed a process called molecular breeding, in which they use genetic analysis to determine the traits of the plant should have even before it grows to full. Full size in order spot plants, but the most potential for breeding. We spoke with Rachel thrower the institute's Chief Strategy Officer. She explained it's taken us ten thousand years, and an intensified two hundred years of modern reading to get the crops. We have today. It's taken twenty to get Kerns to where it is, it might take another twenty to get it to competing at scale with the annuals. But in the effort to turn Kerns a into a commercially viable crop. There's a lot of work ahead. Stroller says that researchers are now working to increase the size number of seeds produced by each plant, and to increase the height of the plants. One drawback of currency is the unlike conventional wheat. It doesn't yet lend itself to free threshing, in which the edible grain is easily loosened from the plant. It instead requires another step called D. hulling to remove the skin of the seed before it can be turned. Turned into flour, that's because the stems remain green, after the plant matures conventional wheat withers, and is thus more easily separated in addition to breeding currency to make suitable for free threshing in the future, scientists are working to make the yield produced by real working farms match what they've been able to achieve on their research plots to that end. They're gathering data from the farmers to help figure out how to time the harvest. What settings would optimal for combines and other factors that might make the fields more productive. Researchers are also working with Baker's chefs, brewers and distillers to develop products that utilize curtains to help create a future market for it. One product already on the market is long route. Pale Ale who's maker Patagonia provision sites Kerns environmental positives in its marketing and last year general mills. CASCADIA and farms brand produced a limited edition. Honey toasted Kerns, a serial, which it sold to raise funds for the researchers. We also spoke via email was Steve, Coleman and assistant professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources and Ohio State University, and the CO author of two thousand eighteen bioscience article on Kerns cultivation methods. He said up and working with Kerns F for ten years, and it's been a fun adventure. I think one of the things that I've really come to appreciate. Is that successfully? Domesticating developing a new crop requires more work than anyone can really appreciate.

"ohio state" Discussed on The GM Shuffle

"All right college football here might WanNa focus on games on Saturdays and Sundays Sundays here on the GM shuffle so USC is at Byu Week Three College Football Trojans are favored by four and a half points in the road over under for the game listed at fifty five points. Loyd's course USC thought. The guy unfortunately gets hurt. What do you think in here with a Trojans in the cougs. You know I think the trojans with Graham Harrell the new offense the freshman been quarterback. I think they looked really good and I know people are thinking well. Byu They went back. They beat Tennessee. I know it's a road game for USC but I think US's offense was pretty damn good. I'm not sure that they're gonNA. Byu's going to be able to run the ball on USC the Trojans here okay. That's the pick their meantime game number. Two the Ohio State at Indiana Ohio State beat the Hoosiers you just forty nine twenty six at home. Columbus the most recent meeting between these programs I was October sixth of last year the Buckeye seventy four twelve and five in ninety one ALTIMA head to head matchups against Indiana so buckeyes women do they cover the spread in that that and that's the question is do the the definitely GonNa win. But will they cover the spread in Indiana's been great against the spread every time they've played them. They've had oh I think I think urban. Meyer was one and nine against the spread in Indiana. That's why you gotTA FAVOR INDIANA. Everybody thinks in the end is a bad team. I was told this is one of the better teams in Indiana is is going to have I don't. I wouldn't play this game but I think everybody's GonNa look at this and say well how states better than fourteen points look what Cincinnati I think that's the trap you fall into that game three his air force at Colorado Falcons taking a trip to boulder. This is Saturday afternoon at folsom field. This'll be the first ever match to the Falcons and Buffalo's points but having the home team same favored by four points anomaly here. I think Colorado's defenses and very good. They can't get ready for the triple option and I think that air force is a tough team to play air. Air Force isn't GONNA have any trouble with the altitude. This game started out. This is where I think you have to be when you have to pay attention to these lines this this game started out as Air Force says the favourite and the betters here's went towards Colorado which is the variances of very Michael Lewis type thing the various went to Colorado but the reality of it is is the sharp money was always on Air Force forced and now you're getting points in air force. That seems like the right play. Michael Lewis moneyball the big short what your favorite Michael Lewis book the Big Short. I think the big shorts really good yeah. Liar's pokers really good too though yeah but Mike Lewis makes complicated things easy at least for me to understand you know for all of us the big sure you watch the movie and You I wouldn't understand what the hell any of this is but all of a sudden. I got Margot Robbie and hot TUB. I'm like okay. I think I understand things out. Exactly Florida state at Virginia according to Odd Shark Virginia is a seven and a half point favorite over the seminoles over under betting line for the game is fifty eight. Are you taking the over in this one. I think you gotta take the over here because I I think Virginia I think Virginia's Good on defense right but Florida state's good on offense. They have no defense. Florida State's defense has given up too many points. I Love Virginia here. I think Virginia this is this is Virginia Super. Bowl Charlottesville will be alive. It's going to be a night game. They're going to be alive. I think the seven and a half points is is go. I think Florida state's not well coached. They just brought Jim. Am Levitin do to help with their defense. which is only gonNA create more problems? I Love Virginia. I think this is Virginia's game of the year. I think this'll be a super play for them. You know there's so many the good Games in college football. I th I think the one betting advice. I'd give people if they want to bet on cultural stay within a conference. Don't go outside conference. Follow the Fred Palermo rule. Get the menu and you cut it short only focus on two or three conferences. Stay out of it you know and then watch teams repeatedly watched teams. Colorado Watch him repeatedly. Don't make that mistake last Thursday night football and he quit thoughts and the game. We're expecting tonight you know I I have a lot of quick thoughts on this game because this is one of those where everybody's talking about Cam Newton up being able throw the ball down the field which he didn't do it all. Cam attempted eleven passes over twenty yards and completed five of 'em. He was five of nine twenty over and over to any time. The ball went over twenty. Okay I think Todd Bowles does a great job. Defensive Coach as Defense Corps to Emmy held San Francisco to fifty four did a great job with them. Turn the ball over Rivera's Chris. How about this. How about this for a nugget Rivera's two for five on Thursday night in one and three at home. That's uninspiring. I mean think about that. I mean I think Carolina wins. I think it'll be a close game. I mean I wouldn't play this but I think to me. If you put a gun to my head I would take the bucks in the points. I Hate Winston you know last week. My Man Bruce Surya said Winston. Two of the three interceptions were on his fault well. How about the one that the kid dropped was that his father was right but didn't between the five and the eight you know. Is that his I. I don't know he could have had four guys loose with the ball here. But how about this the guys played the guy has sixty one picks and twenty four fumbles over his I fifty seven games now. He hasn't lost all those fumbles he lost fourteen of those fumbles but in sixty eight but he's throwing sixty one interceptions and he's lost twenty four balls in the pocket get. He's got ten of them back so he's got seventy five turnovers in the first fifty seven games right. I was GONNA say bet on that. No matter what turn the ball over at least once tonight and you WANNA be my latex tech salesman on the road like Winston Industries. I would never that's why I'm not betting this game but to me. The numbers say it should be Tapa but then I look at Jameson. I say no. Kim would see what Cam Newton wears after the game as always check out the daily coach. Mike's work on the visa zone a change up. We've got tons of stuff. February man that we're not we're not hard guys to find go ahead and tweet us. Let's don't you know we're working. We are working. That's what they are. Our parents would be proud. We're working hard stuff man.

"AM AUSSIE Richard junior from Chicago going to the free throw line. Quiet. I out but in the second half, he's come up with seven points. And now as you make the free throw. This is an Iowa team. Babacan can look at it. I mean Fram McCaffrey can run nine ten guys. I mean, if somebody gets a little bit of foul trouble. There are keys to this team. He's got a pretty good bench while he's had some of those guys that have had to play minutes and other physicians which only makes you stronger because of all the injuries they've ad. So from that sometimes you team gets a little bit stronger. The big picture that was another interesting question. You had asked him in the role. Really interesting. Second free throws good Iowa by ten twenty six seconds to go on the game Jacqueline all the way down the floor trip. Daddy, got tripped on purpose because there's a foul on that. Slipped more than anything. But with a ten point lead twenty three seconds. I can understand why the official. Would call that. I can be a deciding call in all likelihood, but it was a tough loss. Lost his footing the replay. I mean, nobody touches her. As they would say hockey, you'll valley wacky lost the edge. Jay Jackson at the free throw line makes it all ten of his points. Have come in the second half the needed to keep Ohio State at least interested here. Second free. Don't miss that. Rebound controlled by bear of Iowa kicked out of bounds on path by CJ Jackson, twenty eight ago, and I will lead seventy one sixty two. Conor McCaffrey will check in the lineup. And again, the number Iowa has outscored their opponents by nine at the free throw line. They average eleven. They're going to get a chance to add tunes going to be a foul bounds on Jackson. Fouled out of the game. That has not Lisa Jackson. That I got hold on the not him. So how state will have to make a substitution? And that will be Dwayne Washington. Check in. Meanwhile, Fran McCaffrey talk exorbitant Iowa after this game there next four they go to Penn State. That's this week. I'm sixteenth next week at home here against Illinois. Then they got Michigan state come calling and then at Minnesota the buckeyes if they lose this game noses through this will be three in a row. She's a team that the highly fodorov after their great start. They won twelve of their first thirteen Bob. The only lost. Syracuse open big ten play with wins over Minnesota and Illinois. But now is could be free losses in a row. They've all been strange. They were leading Michigan state by seven at the half. Time ended up losing at home eighty six seventy seven on the Rutgers game we talked about that was more like a football game that was low scoring Ohio that Rutgers. It took them four and a half minutes scored their first points of the game. When they did they were down four. And then they they Ohio State had a chance late couldn't finish it off. And now here today, they just played a poor. Second half and on the verge of losing their third day. They gave up the last six points of the game at Rutgers. And so despite all the struggles that's the kind of game you said, why are we stole went on the road. They had a real chance to steal that one. But didn't get it. And now, I we're gonna in all likelihood put him away here with a nine point lead and twenty point six on the clock Bohannon at the free throw line, and that is good. So's got him in one of his career. Just six in this game. Go hand in averages. Eleven one coming. And caleb. Western back on the floor for Ohio State Kalayaan east. Today for live state. It's been a tough go. Now Bohannon another free throw here team up ten trying to make it eleven. This is in the air. And around the Ronaldo, good rebound. Buck is oh and Dwayne. Washington slipped on the floor lost it out of bounds. And we've got. Yeah. He's hurt. And it's a turnover. Couldn't you couldn't even go after the ball. His ankle was hurting him. So. Seventeen seconds left in the game. I will ball ten you've got gotta think he's not here anymore. Twenty one turnover throw high AllState their downfall this afternoon. They were down two at halftime. I was gonna pull this one out and win their third in a row in the big tab as the horn sounds seventy to sixty two Hawkeyes they won fourteen games a season ago. This win today over a high state make some fourteen in three and Bob Fran McCaffrey's team if they can get healthy they can make some noise in the big ten going to be very every night's gonna be a dogfight in for most of this league. A couple of teams down at the bottom that are a little bit behind. But it's going to be an interesting year. This is the kind of game you're going to say they're going to be some are going to be slog fest and the first avenue then somebody gets going this game was really one in the first segment of the second half. When I were outscored by seven and basically milk that for most of the secondhand, maybe the I don't know if it's going to be the first question the fan Fran McCaffrey in the press conference after the game. At least the second will be up about the condition of Tyler cook, he left in the second half and looked like he was a lot of pain on the left tackle that'll be something to keep an eye on. After this game. Slight rain. But as you said a very very important player. St. we'll see how serious it is three in a row in the big ten for the hawk is once again, our final score, Iowa seventy two Ohio State, sixty two. Bell von producer, just aware and engineer. Dave, abbott. Bill rosinsky valid send it back to John Brickley in the studio with the post game show. Bill rosinsky. Bob ivano. Thank you so much. Great job by you both this afternoon. Jeff that at home seventy to sixty two over number sixteen Ohio State, the buckeyes fall to twelve and four overall two and three in conference play for Iowa with that win now fourteen and three on the season three and three in big ten play up next while highlights from I was win over Ohio State this afternoon and a last second win in Tallahassee as this.

"Will plays that three quarter court little nuisance press. Well, how's this going to score gets that? They're just looking to survive it. And so when they get over the mid line now they regroup they've already brought the shot clock down about sixty to seventy by the time. They get all reorganized, and they haven't really put on any kind of defensive vulnerability. So they've gotta find a way to attack that thing with a little more aggressiveness or they're going to have a rough time here. This last seven minutes. Garza makes the first free throw. He'll get another one here. Second one is up and that as good as well, that's why they're staying in. They're still little three quarter equipped trust there. It is again. It's little one t to. Let entwined lead after those free throws six fifty left in the basketball game and Ohio State down every possession crucial. Again, they had a chance to attack back it out give Iowa chance to set. Their defense works does little updates Caleb lesson out front to Muhammad Muhammad penetrates stop still in the lane fall away jumper. Western got the rebound had no look pass about four feet away. Too. Young distant didn't see it and a turnover by the Buckeye. And I always I was sent their defense. It pretty good. They blocked the initial shot by Muhammad. I thought wasn't there. He could have just gone to the battle-scarred catch it. Exactly. Right. I will ball slowing the pace down just a little bit here. Looking for a good shot foul line cook stops bounced past the guards, a double teamed along the baseline is still with a cross-court Tomasz moss. Right-wing three airborne. Hi sam. His first three in the game. I by twelve fifty nine to forty five six minutes left in this one uniform pass by using his leg. Throw it over the defense cross court. Guy moving left to right on the pressure is on. What's forcing his way in the land? Threw that one away the loose ball. Fall out of bounds. Iowa. Again, the extra pass he had a chance again. Bobby could've taken a shot. Decide to pass it in the right corner. And turned it over really hurt by the nineteen turnovers. Frau state team in averages just over eleven points off turnovers really starting to stack up sixty five advantage for the buckeyes chance to add 'cause this'll be a possession of a turnover. Here's Bohannon since it outside the Garza top three different shoots back, the Boheme far-right side Bohannon. Little jump step and he's tied up back outside mosques. Why not another three around the room? No good. Oh, cook the ball. And it's controlled by Bohannon drives the right baseline puts it up off the rim. Wouldn't fall battle inside back for the controlling the boards. Another bucket sixty one forty five and the fans in the arena, standing water their approval. Here's a jumper by Watson. That's no good rebound and a foul on the parole. No travel with tall extra step on. We camp sixty one forty five I'll with bible five to go beautiful effort by weeks gap. You go in traffic like that he came from way in the back and in a group of about three or four guys. But when you do that as we watch the replay you land off balance and by the time, he got himself all -combobulate again. He'd already traveled. Mohammed for Ohio safe twenty on the shot clock. Wesson just inside the left elbow goes into the lane on guard. So we got a whistle offense. A foul on lesson shaking his head didn't like the call. That's his fourth with four fifty left in the game. That was a tough call on the big fella there. That's the first one. I'm not sure about let's see the replay good defense. Good. I'm not sure the contact was enough. But I'll tell you the big fellow's got understand. He must be looking at other people making that context saying they're not getting called what they're not like a building. You do that people go flying and they're gonna make that call four forty six left in the game. Here's Bohannon coast to coast goes up off the glass. No, good rebound. Ohio State one onto down the floor and Jackson tried to split the defence. And he got fouled on the play moss. And we can't promote there. And the foul will be on weeks camp. And that is his second sixteen fall in. Of course, maybe a few minutes ago. Ohio State had committed their tent, so I was been on the double bonus soccer people call that a professional foul. It was really smart because he was going to give up a layup. He fouled early enough. They got nothing out of the puck is down sixty one forty five and a half ago. Bob at right wing Andrei wasn't for three. He got it boils a big shot there. Hits the three. Thirty percent from outside the arc makes that one sixty one forty eight thirteen point I will lead four fifteen to go. Now. Bob, you slow the tempo down looks like they're not gonna do it cook to the basket up off the glass. And. And cook his hurt after the shot. He's had knee issues, but he's holding his left ankle. So maybe he landed on somebody's foot. Never want to speculate. But that's certainly looks like what transpired. They were not giving up anything as far as slowing the pace down. There was a nice put by a pass by Bohannon inside the cooker went up for the layup. And after he came down and hit the floor, and he is still down his back underneath the Iowa bucket. And it looks like the left ankle. He's that's what he was grabbing at as the training staff contents, and you were going to look at it on the replay Bob goes up and unfortunately, the out of the picture, but it looks like he lands on the here's a better. Look his left foot comes down lands on the foot of Caleb. Western western had fallen down. He landed on. Lessons. I think it was his foot part of his leg and betas April turn off the court. He's gonna head locker room. And our thanks to the big ten network for the monitor they provided this game televised by the big ten network. Cook has to lean on a trainer with the right arm. The baker's weight of the locker room. And you hope this is not anything serious. He is a crucial Iowa offense. Inbound Ohio State, by the way, the bucket at sixty three forty eight. There was no foul on the play came down awkwardly on my left ankle. And again that court pressure at Ohio State districts across the time on twenty on the shot blocked, your CJ. Jumper, and he gets it the ball. But that's when I made that time they attacked the press looking to score. Rob are down twelve three forty seven ago. Sixty three fifty one Iowa. Bohannon to bear bear sons in the right corner to boss, he's looking inside for Garza Caleb lesson with four fouls. Garza comes outside on the right with it out a boss out front. Wasn't takes him off Mossel tossup three back the iron grip. But they're in the right spot at the right time to get the rebound and will work the clock again with tune three twenty three left in the game. Hawkeye lead. Look inside one of the big guys Garza or bear. Bohannan left hand dribble. Still outside the arc back to bear long. Top of the arc three. That's no good Caleb. And the rebound comes Ohio State. They gotta get it up. And hurry gets shots off. Down by twelve twenty minutes left in the game. Jackson upfront tries to penetrate outside the Caleb western voice up to three. Now. That's way off the Mark Hamill has got the rebound all day for Caleb Wesson one little solitary field goal. That's it. Go hand into the forecourt. Left hand dribble. Cross port bear right side. Back inside lost it out of bounds. And we will pause with two minutes and thirty seven seconds remaining in the game and the hawk is that contract taking control here in Iowa City, Iowa sixty three Ohio State, fifty one. "Rosinsky. Thanks very much. John forty four. Thirty eight is the lead for the hometown is over Ohio State eleven thirty five to go on the basketball game. And I will with moving right to left as McCaffrey. Coach's son looks to set up the Bohannon Bohannon right at the top of the arc and Mohamed is right in his grill. Gets it back after pass from cleaner. Now, he goes back to cleaner inside for the two hands down. Uniform that is what Fred McCaffrey was telling us before the game. That's how he wants to see his wife. I got about three ball reversals wanna play a little bit. Lot of different guys handling it. Wind up with a easy one at the rim. Now, the lead is eight forty six thirty eight talk is over the buckeyes ten fifty eight remaining in the game C J Jackson. He's been the loan offensively. Bright spot in the second half. Ohio State almost threw it away. Front fronta. Muhammad three on the shot clock will take a jumper from just inside the three point arc. No good rebound battled for. It's by watching. They're gonna call jump ball cleaner. Tidy up. Now, the arrow pointing for Ohio State. Has been so quiet. You got two files in the first two minutes and thirty five seconds. And it has definitely impacted him for the whole game. He has only got two rebounds. Only got one field goal. Two points. Not much of an impact for leading scrolling rebounded buckeyes inbound the ball. And right on the inbound, we have the whistle. As it is. Mccaffrey has. I only the third team foul in this half. State with sixteen falls the next one. We'll put our bonus. Arns out front gets Dwayne Washington. Buckeyes in the scarlet jerseys, white numerals, white and gray Trump, orange far left wing. Tried to drive by bear forget it back outside Wayne Washington for three that's an air ball and the ball will go to Iowa. I'm sorry. Go Washington has made a field goal day. One time to try it because they really need some buckets here there the verge of lightness things get a little bit too far away from them. About Ryan greener who averages five points a game has been on fire, especially here in the second half, eleven points. Go hanan. To Craner drive in on western western knocks the ball away printer gets it back in the near left corner. And the work it back outside eight on the shot clock without the seven Bohannon slow with the basketball Caleb blessed out on him. Now, he drives by wasn't little jump skipping the lane motor off the rim. No, good and Caleb. Wesson picks up the loose ball rebound outlet pass to Duane Washington. Washington into the forecourt drive by McCaffrey can't do it. Pose off along the best left baseline. They bring it back outside fans like that defensive play. CJ Jackson with fifteen on the shot clock. You're right. Salvator triples found one little jump step closer up at the right hand. Does he get it to fall note? Rebound bailey. Dailies got that down for Iowa. Now to bear bear drives the baseline puts it up at the right hand. No, good arms. The rebound who comes Ohio State on the run off to Washington bounce pass go under the hoop and Andrei western was fouled. He couldn't get the ball to fall as they went up to the hoop, but he will go to the free throw line and shoot too. That's the best fast-break Ohio State run all day. Fact. They'd have not scored a fast break point all game and good opportunity there beautiful bounce pass. Just couldn't get it to go and Andrei Wesson, we'll get a fair from line. Fouls on daily. Andre wesson. Seventy two percent free throw shooter. This one is up there. It is good. You would not have a point in the first half. Now three here in the second. Forty six thirty nine the score. I will believe Ohio states western the suit another free throw got McCaffrey bear Brenner and daily all coming to the bench for Fran mccaffery adventure. In the background, log mostly for greener as you mentioned goes got a three point field goal. Eleven. Gonna factor both have lesson. Second free throw for the buckeyes back to the iron. No good. And we gotta wish on offensive foul. Let's see who this is. That is. His third. So now seventeen fouls. So we go down to our left and at the free throw line Tyler cooked. You'll be shooting one and one they've only made three free throws. Oh, Iowa has three of seven. Three of five and keep in mind. They normally outscore post by eleven at the charity stripe. The hawk is one and one I one is good. Cook. Now with eleven point five here in the second half. And I was lead forty seven to thirty nine nine twenty three to go in the basketball game. Spins the ball flexes delays up with the right hand short and arms. Guys, the rebound for Ohio State in here. Come the buckeyes back down the floor Jackson outlet, the Washington beating them down before camps at home with the right hand, nothing but net on the stop Wayne Washington saw Iowa just kind of sleep and going back on defense. Bob, he beat everybody down the floor. Yeah. You can't ever possession counts. Fast inside the cook. And he got fouled on the place. He went up to the left hand shot could be on the deed. I'm just an arm's you give up special lower scoring game. Like this. Baskets have been hard to come by for say the first half. You just fell apart in transition and a good play by Washington. The freshman to recognize it. Everybody had their backs stern grove right to the bowl and flushing free. Throw is good. We will shoot. Again. He's got twelve points. This is an Iowa team last year one fourteen game they win this today. Don't have forty one. Second free throw is good. I it's nice when you bring back all your started to last year, but they have McCaffrey is going to dismiss this a long time and knows how to build and rebuild and got them in the rankings sneaking into the top twenty five. Steps on the inbound an-another turtle. The Ohio states that are down eight forty nine forty one nine minutes to go here the basketball game and slowly the hawk is inching away. Ohio states gotta have to find some defensive stops here. Turn the ball over seventeen turnovers. Throw higher state. They only average eleven plus Bohannon with the ball dribbles left. Cross court. Mrs Garza's back in the game one Japan with the left hand out of Lee's can't far right side. We can't dribbles from right to left in the paint forcing his way in on young puts a shot couldn't get the role. But the foul will be on. Liane? Frustration. Now the face of Chris Oltman? Official little bit. But. Was a pretty good mood by the freshman just back down and every player does the same thing. They stick their hands forward commit the foul. "A triumph of nineteenth century American architecture, the romanesque and gothic influenced Ohio State reformatory looks more. Like medieval palace than a state penitentiary. "If you wanna see great defense Michigan goes into the game with the number one pass defense in the country, Don Brown's vaunted defense, Michigan wolverines defense and look both of us had bought in. Right. Both of us thought. This was a really good Michigan team. And that Ohio State was kind of a mess. And it was just this happens. Every so often Akasha about one of these games were not only are you wrong in terms of who's going to win the game. But never in a gazillion years. I think you would see a final score of Ohio State sixty two Michigan thirty nine. It's one of those games where and we'll talk about the playoff implications in a bit. But let's just think about this. Now, this was going to be Jim Harbaugh's opportunity. This was the most gettable Ohio State team since he's been there. This was supposedly his best team in not only do they lose. They give up sixty two. How do you come? From that. He just I mean, look, you just got a probably they come back from the same way that that Ohio State came back from losing by twenty nine to Purdue. I mean, you can't just give up, you know. I mean, I don't like I feel like people look at it as the end of the world. I know it's it's a crushing defeat as disappointing. But like, I don't know. I mean, everyone every team at some point has to has to battle through something. And you know, I think I said this on Twitter over the weekend. You know, if you had told people that Ohio State was going to blow out Michigan in Columbus at the end of the season and told them that going into big ten media days. Nobody would have thought twice about it. You know? It's just I think this this had something to do certainly the way Michigan let's playing, but I really think it had more to do with Ohio State at least for one weekend, you know, got its act together. I mean, they were sputtering all over the place obviously had some issues off the field too. But. But it's I think it was more to do with Ohio State finally looked like Ohio State. I don't think this had that much to do with Michigan to be honest with you. Well, yes. And no, I mean, first of all you reminded me of in that way. You know, you're right. And and this is not the first time we've seen this from Ohio State or from urban Meyer reminded me of the big ten championship game fifty nine nothing game against Wisconsin that kind of came out of nowhere. And that was with a with Carlisle Jones making his first start. So there is something to that. And also, I stay, you know, had played so poorly on defense and really played. You know, very well gave up some late touchdowns. But the game is out of hand by that. No, I guess what? I was saying is ten and twos. A perfectly good season for Michigan. They may still go to the Rose Bowl. If Ohio State were to make the playoff, but. I I don't know. I think this is a pretty troubling moment. If you're in Michigan football fan because if not now when in the reason, I said earlier there was a segue from the Oklahoma West Virginia game is. I I mean, I just think the gym this showed that Jim Harbaugh's approach to football might not be able to cut it at the highest level. You can win ten games in two thousand eighteen you can win ten games. You can beat Wisconsin. You can be Michigan state running the ball being fairly safe in conservative on offense and playing good defense. But occasionally you're gonna get into a shootout. And this was a game where Dwayne Haskins was on fire. So whether you're facing Dwayne Haskins or will Greer to a column ary, I think in this day and age you have to have an offense that can keep up because it's just not realistic that your defense is gonna hold teams to twenty points or less every week and Alabama in excitement of gone that message, you know, they're not playing that brand of football anymore. Jim Harbaugh still playing football. Like, it's Boesch mbacke Laura out there. I don't know. We'll see..

"I didn't get turned into New England clam chowder today regionally. Touto tall. Aw, that's so fun to say. What were we talking about? Again, gyco fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percents or more. We're back on college football live and in the week of urban Meyer's three games suspension, the Ohio State buckeyes back out of practice, continuing on these players focused on the season head. And obviously, this situation has been much bigger than football, but football does carry on Ryan Dave course be interim head coach for the buckeyes. Now we go live out to Columbus with Sean who's there on the ground, and we just saw the team practicing footage of that. What are they doing to go about their preparation for the season without urban Meyer is the head coach. Yellower source told me that it's just gonna be status quo from this point four going into that first game acting head coach, Ryan day will continue to be the figurehead, but he's going to work with the offense and most of the quarterbacks during practice. And then you'll see defensive coordinator, Gregg Xiang who's the only coach who doesn't have a specific position group that he works with kind of be in that Romer around practice. We saw in the limited time that we actually got to see the buckeyes practicing him, going to different position drills, walking through stretching and talking to guys like urban Meyer does it practice. And a source also told me that come the first game. The important thing is having Greg Xiang. Oh, on the sideline. He brings that urban Meyer energy and demeanor. It's something that players feed off of. So while urban Meyer is not coaching games, the source said that getting Greg, oh, down on the sideline. Just there to help players would be big for this team. All right. Thanks so much with that perspective. They're interesting about Greg on os certainly and not only Greg Xiang. Oh, a former head coach, but also the Kevin Wilson on staff who has experience as a head coach. Let's bring back in the guys Trevor and Jonathan here to continue to discuss. We'll start with you, Trevor. How do you think that urban Meyer's absence of this team? You'll strangely think at the end, it will make them a better team because there's generally two ways locker room. We'll go with this kind of turmoil. What is it will fragment and everybody keeps their head down every man for himself. The other is they will band together even more strongly as brothers. I think there's so much veteran leadership in that locker room that that's the path they will take the. I agree with you. Trevor, I think they are going to bend together. I know they will perform well. The first games aren't too difficult. What I see happening also is urban Meyer and the rest of the coaching staff. They get a game plan together of how they're going to transition of away from urban Meyer too. Now who's calling the plays and delegating some of his assignments do those first three weeks fortunate, the first two weeks aren't too hard for Ohio State. That third week will be a challenge, but they'll already gone through their dry runs so to speak of how they're going to delegate those responsibilities as coaches. Sometimes I think sometimes people underestimate how college kids can handle things and maybe their ability to handle things, but still, this will be in the news. This will be talked about constantly if players are made available to media, we'll be asked about so Trevor, how do you think this affects them from the standpoint of hanging over the team that hang over the team? Does it bother them? Does it bug them as they're trying to carry on with the football season when it starts a great question Laura and it goes beyond just the media because social media forces its way into their into their rooms on their phones. They can't escape it if they want to unless they just dropped their phones and never look at anything. I think it would be a mistake for the Ohio State coaching staff to tell the players to ignore it because they can't ignore it. They won't ignore it. It's impossible to ignore it, teach them how to manage it, how to consume it and then how to ignore it after they've looked at it. Because if you just tell them to ignore it, then you won't have any control about what they do and you need to help them steer their their media consumption now because they will consume it..

"I agree with you, Jonathan. But when it comes to the decision of whether or not to fire him, there's more in that report and things that might be fireable offenses or addressed in the report, and you can take exception to how well that report was done. But if you get the summary of findings, if you look at section six paragraph aim, they say that they found that they believe that had urban Meyer truly known that there was abuse in physical abuse in that relationship between Zac Smith, his former wife, Courtney that he would have fired Zac Smith or any other coach on the spot. That's a finding of fact in their summary. If you go to the next paragraph b. They talk about potentially fireable offense, which is not reporting it up stairs. Well, what they said was that he did fail it his obligation to report these allegations of stairs. But they said in the summary, their words, it was based on a good faith. Misunderstanding of the trigger for when that should be reported upstairs. They said that rubber Meyer believed that had to be action from law enforcement in the form of an arrest or charge before he needed to report it. And because that didn't happen, hang on because that didn't happen that urban Meyer truly believed that the trigger hadn't been met and he chose to handle in a different way. Then they said in the next paragraph that a lot of other witnesses, at least a number of other witnesses had the same misunderstanding of that trigger. So urban Meyer wasn't fueled who misunderstood it. So you can say correctly that it was his responsibility to know that. But his lawyer would say in court, if he got fired that a whole lot of people didn't know that. In Ohio State failed in their training program. And so when it comes to firing him, you get into technicalities like that that make things very, very problematic. I'm not saying that what he did on the management side was right. It was wrong for the most part, but from a firing stamp when I think it's fair to look at other things in that report that are in his favor, not just the ones that are against him. I understand exactly what you're saying. Trevor we can sit here and talk about the technicalities all day long. But the fact is there is a moral responsibility that the head coach slash CEO of Ohio State University football has to abide by and we can talk about everyone else misunderstanding. But the fact is we're talking about urban Meyer and whether he misunderstood or he misinterpreted what he was supposed to do. Those findings also said that he and the AD they took that that what you just said to narrowly and to sit here and say, well, we're just going to wait for law enforcement. We're gonna wait for law enforcement. You know what? Sometimes you have to act as. AO as a head coach, you have to act and your failure to act causes a lot of harm to other people, and it is your responsibility to handle those situations. If you don't handle those situations and you don't act accordingly, then you should be relieved of your job. That is the responsibly, the coast. That's what comes with the territory. If you were the assistant coach, and I want to have the nyah billion say, well, I'm over here on a technicality in the letter of the law. Sure you do that. You have your comfy job as a head coach. You're not allowed to do that. You have to act and he did not act. And Furthermore, they were more instances that show that he didn't act or chose to find a way to get out of acting and say, oh, I don't know. I don't know, deniability. I don't know. I don't know that that's not. It doesn't cut it for a head coach. You can't do that and the report talks about that. But it also says in a very clear finding, again, this is the summary of findings. This is section seven. It's very rushed summary of findings. Okay. But the summary of findings is not my opinion. This is what the report says. It says urban Meyer did not condone or cover up alleged allegations or allegations of alleged domestic violence by Zach Smith countr- ever. How do you hang on if you can't read his messages?.

"Welcome into college football, live Laura Rutledge here. Trevor madij in Jonathan Vilma will be with us shortly weighing in on the bombshell news, the drop late last night in the college football, all about Ohio State and urban Meyer. There's the spending the head coach for the teams. I three games after a two week investigation that found Meyer and others mishandled domestic assault. Accusations made against former assistant coach, Jack Smith lead investigator Mary Jo White shared the key findings of the investigation last night. Coach Meyer AD gene Smith, although acting in good faith did not report the investigation of Zac Smith for domestic violence in twenty fifteen to compliance as we believe they should have. We ultimately did not conclude that coach Meyer deliberately lied during his comments at big ten media days on July twenty fourth, twenty eighteen. He has consistently maintained that he did not recall July twenty eighteen what he knew in twenty fifteen. Regarding the domestic violence investigation of Zac Smith by law enforcement coach Meyer impressed us with his sincere commitment to the respect for women core value that he espouses and tries to instill and his players the independent investigation. Also a dentist side and reported on a number of instances of misconduct and other problematic conduct by sax myth while he was employed at OSU as assistant coach, some of which was known to coach Meyer and AD Smith, and some of which was not. So some key points determined by the working group were despite having knowledge of domestic violence investigation against Zac Smith, three years ago, neither heat nor State Athletic director. Gene Smith notified compliance Meyer did not deliberately lie at big ten media days last month and Meyer did, however, exhibit respect for women core value that Smith was guilty of problematic conduct. They found throughout his employment at the university urban Meyer responded last night on his suspension. Buckeye nation a followed my heart, not my head. I fell short and pursuing full information because at each juncture I gave Smith, the benefit of the doubt. As I reflect my loyal to to his grandfather Earl, Bruce, who was my mentor, like a father to me. Likely impacted how a treated Zach over the years? I did not know everything about sex myth, which was what sex myth was doing. And I'm pleased that the report made this very clear, However, I should have demand more from him and recognized red flags. Well, alternately I'm responsible, everyone's behavior football department, and there was some behavior going on. That. Maybe I was unaware of, but I should have been aware of it. So I, I support our president's decision and. Respect it. What message do you have for Courtney Smith. Well, I message for everyone involved in this. I'm sorry that we're in the situation and. Just are. We're in the situation. So now we bring in ESPN college football reporter, Heather, Dench, and Heather, as you hear what urban Meyer just said and also heard his entire comments last night, what's your reaction. I'm sorry that we are in this situation. That was his response. He went through that whole press conference in porn, fashion, mind you without mentioning the name of Courtney Smith one time. And by doing that to me, he showed that he has no idea what situation he's really in. He apologized to Buckeye nation and he did not even once acknowledge the bigger picture problem that they are in right now. And to me, that means he blew it. He blew an opportunity to show that Ohio State takes this more seriously than just what happens on the football field. Heather was the three games suspension appropriate in your mind and if it wasn't, what would have been an appropriate punishment? Do you think. No, it wasn't because if you go through that entire twenty three page report, there are things in there that should have raised more than red flags that urban Meyer could have acted on much much sooner. So to me, at least at the very minimum, he should have been suspended for some big, ten football games. But you know what? Loara at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter because those suspensions aren't going to be what defines Ohio State this year or defines urban Meyer. It's going to be that report..

"The more this is just the latest example when we get even more insight to one of the greatest athletes country's ever seen this world's ever seen. We seem to learn more and more what we like about Serena. She's letting us in. She's showing you that, hey, I can make a Wimbledon final and still be vulnerable. As Sarah said. I think one thing that's interesting here is when you look at her loss at six one, six love loss. And you say, man, she either mentally checked out or physically something's wrong. I'm gonna go ahead and say she sort of mentally checked out because she's got a kid at home and those things can happen to you. Right. But it also makes you respect the level that she goes through. These majors getting to the final and Wimbledon and having only the slip up in the final. There's so many different reasons for her to just say, hey, I'm gonna, go ahead and be a mother to child. I'm not going to be the superstar athlete if she's still wins two or three or four more major, that's going to be even more impressive. Not only because she's raising a child, but she's also letting us all in and see what it feels like for and worth. Noting selfishly, I read this and I think to myself, hopefully this means she'll be really vote. And open about her ups and downs, and that will make her feel more assured returning and trying to continue to play tennis versus if she held it all in. And then at some point, decided I'm out because we'd all love to see her playing more tennis and it's well within her rights, and she's accomplished plenty and doesn't need to keep going for more majors. But of course, we would like to see it. So hopefully being aware of how she's feeling and being open about it will allow to sort of balance both as she continues to be a mom and the world's greatest tennis player. When those recent low key approach though you gene highbrow. So if you remember, Jim Harbaugh being hired by Michigan in twenty fourteen ever since. And it seemed like he wants to be right in front of the cameras, whether it be shirtless with khakis on playing football with other kids or doing anything to bring more attention to football program. Well, lately he hasn't been in front of the cameras often. In fact, the most recent store you've heard about him was a former quarterback of his telling him how Harbaugh told him not to eat chicken because it's a nervous bird that wasn't new news that was essentially old news. So there's a column in the free press today. Wondering why Jim Harbaugh is more in the shadows now and not out in front like he used to be. And frankly, it just seems like he needed that first part to sort of brand the program. Again, rebrand the program and have them say, look, we are on par with Ohio State in the Michigan state of the football world. And now since he hasn't finished better than third in his division, it's time to really get down to work. And in that store, you read where behind the scenes, he is becoming more vocal to his players. Us becoming more. Assessable to them not so much to the media. He's already done that part. That part didn't really work out that great. I mean, I think it did work out pretty great as much as we might overreact to it as the media. He did help restore the aura around Michigan. That's what they needed. And well, of course, football lies and on the field, they haven't gotten the winds yet to validate the aura that he presents for the team. We at least see notable names transferring to Michigan. We see good high recruits wanting to go be part of the block m. and that's what they were missing. So he established that everyone knows everyone knows the kind of program he's running now. Maybe it is about pulling back a little bit whether that's because he thinks that's best for the program and for their success on the field or whether he's trying to make it less about him..

"Pennzoil hotline ready before you got here. I was mentioning the fact that the ongoing investigation into Ohio State urban Meyer seemingly specifically lead to some fans about a hundred or so come out in support of urban Meyer yesterday evening there in Columbus. And this happened during the sixty sports when I was on with Kevin Gandhi, and we have Mark Schwartz there and it was going on behind a week. It see it. And the first thing that popped out to me is what are you supporting right now? I'm staying, maybe you're. Fan of urban Meyer and yours big support of the football program. We get that your fan, that's what you're supposed to do. But as this investigation continues, what are you really showing support for right now? Because you don't know what this investigation is going to discover, and maybe it shouldn't even get to this point because some of the signs out there were all about the media and fake news and ESPN. Okay, fine. I get that. You're just, you're mad that this came to your doorstep is a fantasy and some other school because we went to Alabama or Clemson or USC, you would probably be gloating fact. They're going through that cheated within those also a guy with a sign that said me to support urban Meyer which could not be any more insensitive. If he tried to my question is what are you really doing now? Let me say this. I know it's not all Ohio State fans at me with that trash. I know it's not all of you, but it is some of unit is part of your family. So if one of your siblings or cousins goes off and does something stupid is somewhat reflective of you but not entirely reflective of you? I get that. But Randy, what are they doing. Yeah, listen. You cannot put me into any semblance of devil's advocate thing where I could try to find like, oh, you know, there's big fans and big that or whatever. Like they came out, they chanted Arben Myers name. They saying the fight song and it was over inside a twenty minutes where I, what I find particularly amusing is the wrong word. But what what really strikes me in addition to the metoo tone-deaf guy is Stacey. Elliot. Zeke Elliott's father out there on the mic like more than one hundred people. But Stacey, Elliot is not the organizer, but sort of the the key storyline coming out of it. Listen, man, your son was suspended, six games for doing what Zach Smith is accused of doing the NFL conducted its investigation Dr six games for violating the personal conduct policy as pertains to domestic violence. Like, that's, that's something that happened. If I'm a member of the Elliott family to sort of tug it, that thread where you talking about your family, your. Cousin and how that might be Representative. You maybe I'm keeping the Elliott family away from anything that is even remotely tangential to domestic violence right now with regard to Ohio State, it takes nothing away from what Zeke did in that uniform from what Zeke did for that school. And I guess by extension, whatever Meyer did as well in winning national title, no one's trying to erase that. What we're trying to do in whatever Myers trying to do. I think by taking himself off the field and agreeing to the paid administrative leave and not fighting it more publicly than already has is allow people to forget, not forget, but allowed to cool off a little bit if you're urban Meyer. So I don't know that these fans are accomplishing what they had hoped which was point fingers at ESPN point fingers at Brittany Murphy, speak enough. Did you see the the mini bracket, the sign with the mini bracket? I did see that sports journalists. We're sports journal all ESPN people because of course the story reading Murphy broker store Facebook,.

"I texts from numerous coaches since last week when this first started and not one has been positive or backing or not. One. And and I just I think he would believe me. He is a fantastic coach. Okay. The next the next saving, he he's no, there's no one close to he knicker way above everyone else. But as far as doing things the right way. I just I don't. I don't see it. I just don't see. There's too much of a track history, and I'm a guy who who is, you know what I go by track records. I go my what someone has done, and there's too much of the bad that go along with that good to make me stop and pause and say, wait a second. Something's not right here. And I think if you honestly look at this, if you honestly sit back and look at this situation, I don't even think it's even a question about if if he knows if he knew roof Shelly told him or you know, you see the text from Brian bowl, teams wife, clearly something is wrong. So Matt, we don't know what's going to happen with urban Meyer. Certainly. It doesn't look good at the moment, but if it plays out that he has coached his last game at Ohio State, what do you think his legacy is? Even if he gets another job somewhere else and has success at another school down the road. Well, the first thing I would say Brad is go, how state is will have state they won before him. One big though, win big after him. So if I'm gonna have a state fan, I wouldn't be concerned at all about why. Well, you lose them, you you gotta find someone else if someone else will win big there because they're set up the win big as far as his legacy. I mean, certainly he, he'll never coach in college again, but I will tell you this, would I be shocked at all? It's six months down the road. He's the coach, the Browns. I wouldn't be shocked in the leaks in the least because that that he'll fit right in there. So man league is a situation where you get time after time after time you get second, chances you get third chances, you can do things there that you can't do anywhere else. Man. I, I don't have the impression and I'm guessing your opinions different based on what you just said that he would be as toxic as say, art brawls is right now, you don't think he would get another job in college. Oh, no. I think he's got way it's not just how. Date a people Florida to. I think he has way too much negative baggage. This point. I don't ever see him get another college job ever. I think he could be go to the NFL. I think he could be a hell of a coach in the NFL I said early, he's a terrific coach. I think he would do well NFL. I, I don't think if he gets five here. I don't think he comes back in college football. I just don't see anyone giving him a chance. Matt, what? What do you think the fallout is from this? Not only at at Ohio State, but a cross college football is it is it athletic directors being a little more intrusive with assistant coaching hires? Is it head coaches now are going to look to see who what are their assistance have been in the police blotter and mindful of those two EMMY? What happens as the on the backbone of this? Well, I mean, my hope Matt is every coach begins fall camp and look to other players and says, I'm telling you this one time if you ever hit a woman, if you ever do anything negative towards a woman header abuser in any way, shape or form you're out and you never come back. And that's it. There's no second chance. There's no third chance you're out. And my hope would be that. Suddenly it's a proactive situation where coaches and athletes directors and presidents or saying, we're not putting up this crap anymore. This is the way it is. If you do it, you are out. There are no second chances. Not you've gotta make that clear. Matt, we thank you very much for.

"I'm Brad Edwards along with Matt Schick and our buddy Trevor Matic. Last segment we kinda ran out of time. We're up against a break after Matt had just posed a question to you. So in summary, what Matt was pointing out is that urban Meyer to some extent brought this on himself in that at Ohio State. He hired an assistant coach who he knew had had a domestic violence incident when he had been with him at Florida in two thousand nine. It was on his resume. Yep, absolutely. And so urban full knowledge of it and he brought him onto his staff anyway. And you would think because of that, he would have been more on the lookout for the possibility that something like this could happen. So why did he have a ticking time bomb on his staff? And by the way, Erbas choices are urban choices. So he's responsible for whatever choices he made. And I want to hear more from him about what choices he made, what, but why did he bring this ticking time bomb in? I people say that it's because he just wanted to win football game. And he didn't care about victims or anything else just win. But this is not a guy is pivotal. The winning football games. I when I watch Ohio states wide receivers, I don't see them as being any better coach than anybody as out quarterback. Right? And so it's not because remind wants to win games and this is his ticket to do it. So why is he there? We've heard a lot about how Earl, Bruce. This is Earl BRUCE'S grandson how Earl, Bruce mentor reminder when he was young, maybe Bruce gave urban Meyer a second chance here or there, and maybe that had something to do with this because the way coaches think when players are assistance at times get in trouble, they think of ways to keep them in the program because that kind of structure is what you need to be able to grow football coaches have this mindset of getting these eighteen year old unguided missiles, putting him through a system that spits them out the other end as a young man who's got some responsibility ready to step into the world and have success. And a lot of those kids falter, they get in trouble. And the coach will try to figure out a reason to keep him under his wing because a football program, especially when like urban, Myers has all kinds of of support mentor, ship accountability that would not be there if you just kinda moose. I mean, what? What have you been fired? This guy in two thousand fifteen, right? He would've lost the entire support network. Now, I think he should have been fired. She fired gone. I think that as soon as another incident was reported urban Meyer and he says, he didn't know. But as soon as one was reported to him, Zack's Michigan fired immediately, and then the entire university should have rallied around Courtney Smith long-term to help her with counseling, whatever stuff was going on. But what happens is sometimes coaches will think I need to have this guy. In this case, this guy that has a history of hitting his wife next to me because if he's not next to me, it's going to get worse than he won't have any chair while have less of a chance to bust out of it at the other end. I'm not saying that's the right thing to do, but I'm guessing that that will probably be part of every Myers explanation with the first question that I asked you on this topic last segment you began your answer with there is a victim and her name is Courtney Smith Personalizing it. I think a lot of times when we have these discussions, it kind of gets trivialized that there's a person in that person's nameless, and that's not the case. And you pointed that out because this is something that's personal to you because it's something you've had experience with in your family, Brad, every time. I see a story with this kind of underlying issue domestic violence or abuse against women. It takes me back to when I was a kid because my father would get drunk..

"He's the best best. He got the Paul finebaum show podcast, welcome in to the Paul finebaum show it is Thursday, August, second. I'm Brad Edwards filling in today along with my college game day on ESPN radio co, host match Schick, Matt. It was a an eventful day yesterday to say the least you and I were together in Connecticut for our ESPN college football seminar. And we learned midway through the day about what was going on in the news with urban Meyer, Ohio State ended up being the only topic of conversation on the show yesterday we're going to get to our writer Andrea Adelson in just a second. But first, Matt, did you have any quick thoughts on what happened with with urban Meyer? No, I it was. It was an amazing and surreal day yesterday when we are in the college football seminar. Dr for ESPN kind of gear up for the season to begin and the biggest story of at least this year so far is breaking as we're all checking our phones and there's a seminar going on and we're actually listening to new rules changes in -ficiating and things, and then everyone's kind of looking around on are you? Are you seeing this? Are you, you know, you got Reese Davis in the room, Brock Hewitt in the room, grod Gilmore everyone you can imagine. And we're all kind of distracted as we're, we're focused on what was looking to be the biggest, the biggest story at sports right now. Yeah. So for those who were not around yesterday or or not as with the story, it's basically this that Zac Smith, an Ohio State assistant coach was let go by urban Meyer a little bit more than a week ago. Because of some incidents in his past. Now. Exactly. Which incident is a little unclear at this point? Urban Meyer when pressed on it at big ten media day didn't really elaborate. But what we've learned since then is that there are several incidents in Zach Smith's past with his wife or then wife. I should say a Courtney Smith, which would be considered domestic violence and urban Meyer throughout his coaching. Career has been very outspoken against violence toward women. He's made this one of the core values of his program, and yet there's an appearance that urban Meyer perhaps did not act when he had information about Zac Smith and what was going on with him in his domestic life. Now, that is the big question right now. What did urban Meyer? No. Did he know anything and if so, how much did he know? And at that point, did he do anything about. It we're now joined by our Andrea Adelson who wrote an article on this which is only SPN dot com. The title as society has evolved, urban Meyer hasn't. So Andrea just give us first of all your overall impressions of this story as you've learned what there is to know about it at this point. Well, my overall impression is this urban Meyer knew that Zac Smith was a problem in two thousand nine when he was a head coach at Florida. At that time, Zac Smith was alleged to have shoved his pregnant wife against a wall and even Meyer knowledge. If big ten media day he was aware of that incident and instead of firing him immediately, he decided to keep him on staff. Now, let's fast forward. Urban Meyer goes to a high of state and he hires accents on his staff knowing what he knew about what happened at the university of Florida. And that's my biggest issue with all of this. How can somebody who says that he is against violence against women? I believe that's somewhere in the locker room at Ohio State stand behind a man that he knew had done something physically to his wife. I don't understand that I never will understand that. And when you look back at his tenure at Florida, there were thirty one player arrest at least ten of them or for violent acute players were accused of violent crimes, Aaron Hernandez being one of them. We all know how that went down. And so he has this history of looking past either players or coaches allegedly, who has had documented. Accusations of physical violence against them, except it's not true thousand nine anymore. You know, back in two thousand nine, there wasn't metoo movement. There was no art riles at Baylor. There is so much more focus on what's happening in our society with sexual assault, domestic violence, physical abuse against women that it's no longer okay to just forgive and forget and overlook those types of accusations..
