They come at us and accuse us of aggressively being whatever it is rest easy for. He is on the job. He's my your man speak up in defense, a neck eight seven and thirteen thirty k and s s. Number one talk station. This is J and s s. There are other stories. I do want to talk about a one of them is not even as important as any of these. But it's very important to our economy. General Motors is killing several passenger car models, including the Chevy volt Chevy Cruz and others. These a compact vehicles who held up as examples of the automakers. Post-bankruptcy revival now GM is making this move as part of a sweeping cost-cutting plan. And they unveiled it only today. Why are they dumping small passenger cars why? Because you the American people are not buying them. You're abandoning passenger cars in favor of crossovers SUV's pickups. That's what the Americans want you want crossovers SUV's and pickups, so the volt semi electric car the cruise compact sedan is gone. Now strangely enough. General Motors will also discontinued the Chevy Impala full size car. That's an odd one. That car is kind of the icon of America. And why dumping that I guess only one reason it's part of a six billion dollar cost cutting plan, but listen to this General Motors is going to close plants in Michigan Ohio Maryland in Canada, and they're gonna cut fifteen percent of its salaried workforce. This is a huge story. Huge story, and it illustrates the changing times not only in the type of cars, the American people want and don't want. But in the economy of today, it's a different economy than it was a few years ago. There are many topics the phone number here is eight five five four hundred savage eight five five four seven zero eight two. I have not yet run into one person who listens to this show. And the closure of five plants in Michigan, Ohio, Maryland and Ontario, Canada, Detroit mayor Mike Duggan says he is not giving up on a plant scheduled to shut down. We've got a good workforce. Six billion dollars by the company's estimates by the end of twenty nineteen. It is probably a nod towards what they think are flattening auto sales auto sales have been really great. But I think that there's a fear that things could slow down next year. President Trump made his feelings clear before leaving a campaign rally in Mississippi. They say the Chevy Cruz is not selling. Well, I say, well, then get somebody to get a car that is selling well and put it back in heavy snow and high winds caused havoc on the roads. "College football fans to lose their mind. It's not new for them to post things online, including hosting the coach being hanged. It's not new this time, though, if might be a crime. Well, this case the coaches African American right? And who's had a tough year Willie Taggart from Florida State University. Now, here's the deal earlier today Hilton grand vacations because the guy was out. He was outed for a social media post pudding. The coaches face Willie Taggart at Florida state on the body of a person that was hanging from news. Yes. Cape. Now, clearly it was. A me a clearly, but what should happen next? So Hilton grand vacations when they were made aware that this was an employee of theirs. He wasn't doing it on their site. He wasn't necessarily doing it with the name Hilton grand vacations next to his name that I know of he was in a message board site cards football fan, right? And this is what these losers do. I'm sorry. These pants do sitting in their underwear they rant and they get mad, and it's just kind of the place to go. Then they were made aware that he was an employee of Hilton grand vacations. They've since fired him and spray stroz being announced by the judicial circuit state attorney Jack Campbell that they are investigating it as a threat as a threat, and I hate crime. Yeah. Okay. That's bad day. All the way around. Can you imagine? Helen, honey. Won't be going to work today. What for well? I was on a chat room that after the game. We lost again. And I die. This is what I did. And so not only my losing my job. I might go to jail. Now. What happens next legally don't know. But he's been fired at Hilton grand vacations. Went public and saying that they had fired the guy's last name is Shannon, Stephen Shand and next up. I don't know. Now to not to make it even worse again. We're back to a fundamental question about what can you do online? When should what you do online. Now, this guy clearly not to defend him that he's not a knucklehead, but he's not worry that at work. He's on posting on the worksite. He's just doing what message board losers. Do you vent? They he he was visiting degree. Yeah. Staff. Go crazy lie. Make memes then Bobby Bowden the legendary coach at Florida state is also probably going to get criticized because he says, it's a cruel joke. Oh, man old white, man. A joke. You don't do this job? You don't do this anytime. Adjoining a black man, especially if the figure the homeland says joke. It's a cruel joke. Bowed and says. When you first brought this up. I thought you were talking about the senatorial candidate from the great state of Mississippi would said she wanted to be on the front row of alleging that she said it was just a joke. Right. Well, then what she wore the confederate half. It was just a joke. Yeah. I mean, it's. This interpretation of your employer firing you when you're clearly out on your own. What does that line? They can do it. And they have the other issue of clearly making a mean, and I'm not saying the guy's not a racist. Knucklehead, obviously, there's some issues he's really a threat this, man. I don't think he's really a threat. Jeff insensitive. Prosecutors dumb. He's just in his company had no other choice. But to relieve him of if duties because one at work he worked for them. Somebody in the message board put a link to his linked in page that see this is when you message board losers who have nothing better to do. The this get up and play with the kids. Go for a jog do something productive because somebody on Lincoln outed. The guy with his linked in profile, which is pretty harsh. And then people then bombarded Hilton grand vacation saying this guy works for you. What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? And Hilton says whoever the boss says, oh my. Yeah. We got started getting more heat. You just suspended if you got to do more. Okay. We'll do more. We fired him. Yeah. Now, the irony of this. And again, it's certainly their prerogative to fire him. And once they were called out, they probably had no choice because it was going to be relentless online. But sometimes I wonder because the feeling of a few losers online feels bigger than it really is right. It's easy to get caught up in the the small world of what's happening online with message boards and stuff like that and projecting to the whole world. I think it's easy to get caught up there. So I'm not quite sure it was going to be as big a deal as as Hilton feared either way they fired the guy not that he meant that much to them anyway. But not to be outdone. What should a school do when the students give the Nazi salute there doing nothing because they can't. You're talking about the high school, and we haven't heard about this. Now think about the comparison between these two events. Here's the school district in Wisconsin. According to reports now does not have a plan to punish the student who gave an apparent Nazi salute. In a photo that went viral this month the school district administrator Lori Mueller distributed letter via school be a student information systems saying that the district has completed part of an investigation into the photo. And if you haven't seen the photo, it's a bunch of dudes giving the Nazi salute. It's not there's no gray area. Exactly what they're doing. They're doing it on purpose. But she writes because of students first amendment rights the district is not in a position to punish the students for their actions. Listen next time you. Call about somebody kneeling remember this. Yeah. Next time you call the back not believe they're not gonna do anything during the Nazi salute. There's a level of freedom of speech there. But my gosh. Yeah. So it's just when you compare the two again, I'm not saying that the guy with the with the coach in a news is not a big deal the Nazi salute is a big deal. The Nazi salutes is a huge deal. I mean, you talk about what is threatening. There's no gray area about that. That's threatening. That's pretty remarkable. I mean to compare those two events this guy, again, his employer has every right to fire him for any number of reasons. And I suspect again when he was out of their choice, but whether or not this guy's prosecuted for crime, not to mention the high school students who if the Nazi salute not just one probably about thirty. Yeah. I was gonna say it's not just a couple of knuckleheads. Ask our had. Thirty or forty guy at least. Yeah. That the government was going to do something about this. And of course, make middle America. Great again. Right. Well, GM is closing plants in Michigan Ohio Maryland in his going to cut fifteen percent of salaried workers. Wait. I thought the government was gonna fix everything. But a caveat to that those people who are losing their jobs will be offered jobs at plants where they make trucks and SUV's and stuff. Maybe. Well, that's what they say. That's what you're saying. I heard that earlier that they're going to be offered. They're gonna have to move from Ohio and Michigan the Texas Arlington, the Arlington, Texas, plant for trucks and SUV's, maybe at softens the blow a bit, maybe the deterrent. Based automaker said it would end production by the end of two thousand nineteen these are plants in Michigan and on -tario Baltimore, and there's two of them. And there's another one in Michigan as well. The move reflects this. Verity of Americans consumers shift to ask you vs. Well, we're gonna fix all this stuff governor's gonna fix this and make people make companies do stuff and people do in hire people. Right. The governor's gonna make people hire you. How's that working? It's not working. It's not supposed to work, it's private private business. Private industry. We're going to force you to hire people and force you to not outsource that way will lead to more hiring more hiring accepts when it's bad for business and then bad for business. Meet people get fired when business is bad people lose their job. Government intervention can produce bad business people then lose their jobs. No, fixing that no change, and there's no tinkering with free enterprise. Competition is good and GM is adapting to the times. They're not selling those cars. Yeah. They're not doing it. And they're going to driverless. So, you know, why they're not selling those cars because somebody else makes them cheaper and the consumer wants it. That's why free enterprise works competition works. But again, I'm a little cars. They're smaller ones are more expensive. They can't realize the margins because are people are more expensive. I'm a little more hopeful that those union people men and women will get jobs in Arlington, and we'll move. I'm more hopeful. I think than you are. But you drive the cost up. See what happens when it's a competitive world. And you drive the cost up a company needs to realize margins when it can't realize margins you lose you lose your job. Hey, it's that simple. The consumer wants it to be less expensive. You can't drive up the salary of people drive up the cost and not expect. There will not be consequences. It's the argument people make about forcing minimum wage. Yeah. The exact same thing. Demand is different tastes change. If you keep the cost of these small cars, high because of unions because of government intervention all that stuff. They're gonna lose their job. The job. John casick says I think this would mean you're in what I read the. He's in. Yeah. Y'all but said he's in so. He wins a general election. Whether he gets there or not how does he win a general election? No, I don't I don't see Jeff. I don't see any Republican ousting Trump, and I don't see an independent. I do. I don't see an independent defeating democrat or Republican next time. I don't know how give you this scenario is I don't see. Well, the very thing. We just talked about what was promised in middle America's not working out. He's extremely popular there. There's not that many places in play some of the places in play. Trump barely won some of those places in play things haven't changed is it possible that the views of those people are saying man, it didn't work out the way you told me it would. Here comes casick. It's just different fields. Looks different the margin for Trump is small anyway. Disagree with that. In a lot of states is not Texas, Texas was huge. I think that the bible belt is still very huge forget, yes. For Donald Trump. But you're talking about Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin places that are in play Lord. Yeah. The places that are in play are pretty risky, and I could see the math could see the logic behind casick doing this. The billion dollar question is how do you ever even get there? I don't know how he's going to get there. I don't know. What path he takes to have it casick V Trump V someone else be someone else. I don't know that. But I could say if the if the ballot was casick fee Trump, I think he's got a real chance. Better than a real chance. Mean a squirrel has a chance. Where's he going to fix it? Now. The places I just said in the Republican. Yes. That's yeah. I I don't have any one thousand nine I think that is the sixty four thousand I don't know how do you get there? I don't think he will get there. It's sort of like the Rudy Giuliani before Rudy Giuliani was a weirdo Rudy Giuliani. One time sort of like Chris Christie was a real clubhouse favorites sort of like the Republican nominee. It's just getting to that primary was the death March, and you could never get to the other side to be in a general election. I think casick would win a general election. I don't know that he gets in fact, I suspect he probably doesn't. I don't think he gets here's Republican, and that's the only way he can win. Yeah. I know I agree. Let's say only way because of the power of the parties. Yeah. Which is terribly unfortunate. But at least casick would be a viable solid independent independent person. Because I think it could be you could have Trump. You could have a democrat fringe fringe candidate on the far far left and the great unwashed the middle may go to case a kudos. But it's difficult difficult. Yeah. I he says during the interview on ABC news this week viewed by no one under the age of eighty. He says he's very seriously considering a bid when asked about his presidential ambitions. I says look we need different leadership. There isn't any question about it. I'm not only just worried about the tone and the name calling in the division in our country and the partisanship. I also worry about the policies. I'm out there. Trying to do what I can do. I don't know when I will have to make a decision, but let's not let's be clear on not being coy. This is really really serious to me, whatever that means..
