The office holiday party goes on

Others say their workers want some kind of bash to break up all the isolation and the anxiety and the challenge is how to do that. Virtually It doesn't feel like another zoom meeting one marketing companies organizing a virtual murder mystery party. Another business is holding an outdoor snow day and one law firm invited opera singers to perform legal themed arias online. Most companies, though, have the attitude of you still have a job. That's f o w l like the bird It's named after my murder. Mystery company called the foul players of perryville. Perryville is where. I live in maryland. Were about fifty miles northeast of baltimore. The reason why we make that ton or whatever you would say it would be for. Foul is because The town i live in is right on the susquehanna river which is known for its multiple species of waterfowl people. They have actual waterfowl museums ear to talk about that stuff so we figured it'd be a nice play on words for foul play my head. The murder mystery company for a couple of years. Now we perform on boats and on trains office parties and vineyards and whoever have us. I also am a musician. I right now have an acoustic duo. That i've had for about fifteen years and we're kind of comedy act sort of similar to the smothers brothers. It's two of us. We play acoustic guitars and the humor isn't as much when with the banter between us as it is with the humor's actually in songs so that's called. The uncle moldy show. And we perform a in the maryland area a wide knob sometimes in pennsylvania to most recently. You may know me as the viking. And the jim what worth commercials while riding around on the bus. I was the big viking. That came out of the back You've also seen me this year on kimmy versus the reverend if you haven't seen that movie it's based on the unbreakable kimmy schmidt and it's there's a scene where kimmy and tight us. The two main characters are way out in the country and they come into a bar. There's a leonard skinner ban. they're playing. And i'm the bartender in there. I won't give away the movie. But it's an interactive movie but no matter what choices you make in the movie. You always get to see me. So that's the good part about it. You know it's it's not like that movie revolved around me or anything like that We have been nominated nominated for a couple of emmys I believe it was for best special perhaps and then Titus burgess has been nominated for an emmy for male performance. I believe as well. I'm excited about that. I'm also appeared on gotham. I wish unseasoned. Five episode eight played one of the penguins henchman named dale. I was shot to death in the third scene. I was in. And i've also done a number of discovery. Id shows and some mom commercials down here in maryland. When i was starting out and everything. I'm also years ago. I was in the hair bands of the eighties. I had a big hairband back. In those days. I had a band that was kind of more like the call to little bit. After that when the hairband started going out we were called orange seed parade we played. Cbgb's in new york a number of times. And you know open for a couple of national acts over the years. So yes so. That's me in a nutshell so we can get a little more specific if you like Depending well you know the first thing that you said that caught my ear was the susquehanna river and i was thinking of that old. Avidan castillo routine about the susquehanna company. All right right squad at company there may have been years ago but the majority of there's only a couple of miles of the susquehanna bets in maryland and it actually goes all the way up to near upstate new york so there could be something on the way you know that river goes through lancaster and harrisburg and it goes quite a ways up. I believe almost up to upstate. New york if it doesn't start up there somewhere along the line. I'm sure there was and with your murder mystery troop you. You're an actor in the troupe. Right yes i am. Yeah okay so basically your book like for parties and stuff like that and there's someone who's been killed in they have to figure out if it's you or one of your co stars did it. Yeah yeah exactly. "You don't need much else. You know that is all of these brands like the named burberry. The name gucci louis vuitton names are so prominent in society. And you know exactly what they are. You know exactly what they do. And you know you recognize their stuff like their logos in in stuff instantly you know honest thing right you get to the point where it's like an honor to be part of the legacy of brand you know it's yeah right Yeah so like aquinas. Davis junior directed the film. And it's just a nice like it's cool. It feels like i feel like too. Obviously it's a commitment to the craft your point but like it also feels like elevates the film because it feels like you're watching it kinda cues you feel like you just watched like a piece of art or like exactly. That's that's about getting at is. It's the same you're watching. That's why they put the filmmakers name in it because they're big they're creating a film. It's not necessarily an advertisement. It is but they want you to feel like it's the the the artistry is really a hero as it is in their designs and in their clothes. And that's what this does and it just happens to be an office party. A holiday office party is is the vehicle in this case it makes me feel bad for all of the other people that direct ads. That don't get their name in ads. The agency.

The fact that mark pritchard proctor and gamble gets completely pissed off at. They say the gray name is being retired. calls marguerite ceo wpp and his. Like why wasn't i aware of this. Considering it about four point three billion on media in the brands still matter. You should probably be told that to everyone input on the name there The the that's the tricky thing of being in fucking holding companies man is board pressure to consolidate in. Then you have to agencies that don't know they're merging with each other finding out via the news and and yeah also didn't for internal conferences like he can't even ask people a question didn't like both sides get told that their name was the one that was staying like didn't the wonderful folks it gray here that it was going to remain gray and the wonderful folks at aqha heard. Insider reported that october the wpp board hired global management consulting firm mckinsey and co to help return the company to growth. There'd be rolling out a plan to do so in the coming weeks so these merges are probably part of that. And i love that. You know advertisers talk a big game about consulting companies on the higher on going to say. I don't know if i've heard of the another agency using a select company before lateline. Sober Holiday Survival

"First and foremost guess what you guys were still in the middle of this pandemic and that means when it comes to holiday parties. There's not very many of them this year. Your office party might not be happening. Your family parties might be smaller versions of themselves. The large group restrictions of covid safety are really going to work in your favor this year as far as staying sober i quit drinking in the middle of november four years ago so it was right before the holiday season started in getting through. The holidays was definitely the hardest time of year for me. Not just because. I was in the beginning of recovery but because we think everyone associates the holidays with drinking spoiler alert. Not everyone does but we usually did so. We assume that others think the same way. I believe that if you can make it through the holidays and just get them out of the way the rest of your early recovery will be that much simpler. And i'm telling you this because if there's any part of your brain that saying no i'm not ready yet. I'll drink this season. And then i'll start in january. Don't listen to it. Do not listen to that voice in your head. This is your year to do it. This is your holiday season to do it not having to have to go to so many parties this year. It's gonna work in your favor because it's that many times that you won't have to turn down an event or say no to an alcoholic beverage. It's like putting bumpers on the bowling lanes when kids go bowling. So that their ball doesn't go into the gutter or wearing floaters or waterwings or whatever. You wanna call the inflatable things. That kids put on their arms so they can get into the pool and not sink. You get bumpers and florida's this twenty twenty holiday season and that's very lucky for you. Use that to your advantage and just go for it. It won't always be this easy next for the events that you do have to go to cherry pick them. You don't have to say yes to the mall. If this were a holiday season without covid you would definitely want to cherry. Pick them. And when i say pick i mean like take a look at all of them and pick out the ones you don't need and just stick with the ones that you absolutely do. You don't have to say yes to everything and you also don't have to explain why you're making this decision to anyone let alone. Everyone and no is a complete sentence. I just feel like in your first year. You get to be weird you know without having to explain in this is the year that luckily get to blame a virus for just about everything without being questioned so if you think party or an event is going to be hard to get through without drinking. It's not worth going to. You're allowed to say no and guess what going to lose sleep. Believe it or not. They're probably not thinking about you and that's not to say that you're not amazing because i certainly think you're amazing but you are the center of your own universe. And they're the center of their first. So if you're not sure don't go and let the world keep turning. Caving and drinking is not worth going to any party. I don't care who's there. If you do decide to go to an event the most important thing you can do before you show up is decide that you're not drinking. Don't go there still unsure if you're going to drink unsure means you're still on the fence and you haven't decided if you want a drink or not then. You're going to do that thing. We go back and forth during the party for the entire time weighing whether or not you want to drink you're not even having fun or enjoying the party at that point. Because you're just going through negotiations in your head and you could be doing that at home and more comfortable shoes or sweatpants if you decide. I'm not going to drink at this party. No matter what the decision is made you can just drink your toshiko and get on with enjoying the party and that sounds like a much better time than being stuck inside your head. The decision is often the hardest part so get it out of the way before you even ring the doorbell and then if you've already decided that you're not drinking your body just has to follow suit so decide i. Your actions will catch up with your brain.

Totally Confused Finds A Resolution

"Dear sugars I'm a sixty two year old divorced woman and have been single for seven years. I was married for thirty years to a man who was basically a good guy. He was a good provider responsible with our finances and actively involved with our three sons. But the second half of our marriage was miserable for me because my husband was emotionally cold he pursued many outdoor hobbies without me. He retired early and spent more and more time at a second house we bought at the beach. I was so lonely inside our marriage I begged him to go to counseling with me, but he wouldn't. So I went alone. I tried to find activities we could do together, but he always turned me down I'm an affectionate person, but he would never touch me or hold me unless he wanted to have sex. After our youngest son was way college I realized I'd had enough of our complete lack of connection and I decided to divorce him. I waited so long to make the final move because even though he showed no interest in strengthening our marriage, I knew he would be devastated if I left him and he was. Except for seeing him at our youngest son's graduation four and a half years ago and the occasional text message greetings on birthdays or Christmas. My ex hasn't wanted any contact with me over these past seven years since we broke up. But something has shifted recently. Our oldest son is getting married soon, and in the spirit of that upcoming occasion, my ex-husband reached out to me several months ago and invited me to meet for. Coffee. He wanted to break the ice so it wouldn't be awkward at our son's wedding. We were both nervous but it went well. I. Let him lead the conversation and had no preconceived expectations. We decided to meet again a month later and that time was great. We laughed and reminisced. The week after that, he invited me to drive out of town together. So we could visit my ninety three year olds stepmother for the day. They'd always been very fond of each other. We had a great time. I didn't want the day to end. During our time together he apologized for several hurtful things he'd done over the years. And we both cried. We saw each other again and have talked on the phone too and each time he names the hurtful things he's done and he asks me for forgiveness. He was sorry for not listening to me for not going to my office parties for not hugging me or holding my hand. He said he was sorry for shaming me when I gained weight. Everything changed for me as he named many many cruel and insensitive wrongs committed in our marriage all my hurt and bitterness melted away. I've never experienced this kind of forgiveness. I have a new sense of peace and an understanding of grace. I. Feel Deep Love for him again, and he says he has never stopped loving me. The problem is he's engaged to be married to a woman he'd worked with and has known for years. His fiancee shares many of his outdoor hobbies are sons all love her, and they have made a new life together. She knows we've been meeting, but she doesn't know what we're feeling. He is only good things to say about her but also says, he never imagined we would have a chance to reunite. I have compassion for him because he's in a difficult situation. Sugars, we don't know what to do with these emotions. Two nights ago, we talked on the phone for an hour I feel closer him now than I did in the last few years of our marriage. He's so attentive now when we talk. If he were single I would reconcile with him and want to try again I've had a few relationships since our divorce but no one I wanted to make a life with. I've made a new life for myself moved to a new town have new friends and hobbies I'm healthy and financially stable. And I'm totally surprised by my feelings. I still love him and I'd welcome the chance to start over. I can't stop thinking about him. He texts me every day to say hello and say that he's thinking of me. He doesn't know what to do with this turnaround either. There's no instruction manual to figure this out. What advice do you have for? Me signed totally confused while.

Searching for Summer Shipp

"So summer shipp grew up under her given name Dolores in Granite City Illinois. Her mother Cora raised her and her three brothers alone after their alcoholic. Father left the family. Now Cora raise children as Jehovah's Witnesses and this was a religion there's some are continued to practice throughout her life. She did stop attending services but observed religion. She never celebrated Christmas birthdays. She said that every day was a holiday and she liked by her daughter and her friends gifts when it was her birthday. Isn't that Nice good? Sounds like a nice lady really really nice so some are grew up in extreme poverty under pretty rough circumstances and of this. She has pretty frugal but in our young adulthood she married a wealthy man John Ship and she lived for years in luxury however difficult childhood in Granite City. That never was far from her mind. John Ship was the manager for the local metro-goldwyn-mayer branch. Mgm when he moved to Kansas City from Florida in nineteen sixty nine now summer had moved to Kansas City just a few months previously. She saw the city as a place to forget her pass and she's going to create new life for herself. Yeah that was important to her to kind of start over. The childhood was rough so John. Lived in the same apartment complex as a friend of summers and when she visited that friend at the community pool she really caught Johns I. Some are was not a classic beauty but she was really pretty at five foot one inches tall and just over a hundred pounds. She was tiny but she was a bundle of energy sometimes described as sprightly so although John had a girlfriend at the time he broke things off with her to be with summer in October of nineteen. Seventy summer was pregnant and she told John on the night. He took her to see an advance screening of the movie. Two thousand one a space odyssey and after that they decided to move in together and just see if they could make things work. John's apartment became their first home together and their front door was just feet from the pool so John worked as he floated in the water and Sunday himself. The phone set nearby and when it rang he would just paddle to the edge of the pool and work on deals so this is kind of living the dream. I guess float around in the pool. Yeah phones broke their nice good way to do it but he did work hard. He negotiated film showing contracts for hundreds of theaters throughout Missouri and Kansas. So he was really on his way up in the industry at this point so some are in. John got married at the courthouse with John's brother and a friend of summers as witnesses and they had a daughter who they named Brandy. She had read here like her mother's but even brighter and darker and both summer and John were just thrilled with this little girl. They moved out of the apartment and rented a cottage that summer adored for a while and then as the money kept coming in two years later they moved into a duplex in a very upper class area living near professional football players so John left MGM and but an independent Film Distribution Company called Thomas Films and after he bought it he changed the name to Thomas and ship films. The company was more successful than he had ever could have been able to imagine. He made a ton of money so much money that he felt like he'd WanNa Lottery. Are He come up from humble beginnings himself? Yes I think in summer really didn't know what to do with all this money. It was foreign to both of them and I guess summer was able to kind of not focus on it. She just wasn't that interested in things but I think John it kind of affected him and he got carried away with it here. Well I knew her. Religion would seem to me to make her less desirous of money. And what money can buy share? I mean I'm sure she liked not having to worry about it like she had all her life absolutely and remember up until this time she's still going by her original name. Dolores but when brandy was just a toddler that's when she legally took on her new name. Summer brandies middle name was Alexis so some are named herself summer. Alexis ship and by the time brandy was three. John was making over two hundred thousand dollars a year. And this is the nineteen seventies. So I looked it up. And that's about seven hundred thousand dollars a year equivalent in today's money so ton of money tournament in nineteen seventy four. They bought a two story. English Tudor home in the exclusive Crestwood neighborhood and they had a house with a huge private in ground pool. An Art Gallery Jim Asana just everything. Yes so brandy was Kinda spoiled. When she was a little girl. It was almost unavoidable even though she did get a lot of attention as well as things but like I mentioned John's lifestyle just became out of control as his income was soaring. He spent time on the West and east coasts partying with the rich and famous. Eventually he found himself with an expensive dependence on cocaine and pills and is John pulled away from his home and family life into this life. Some are just kind of channeled her love and attention into raising her daughter. So Brandy got a lot of attention. Showered on her. Maybe too much if that's possible. Do you think that's possible to give a kid too much attention? No again it depends on what kind of attention. Well here's my thought on it. You can give them too much attention if you're allowing them to control you like when you're on the phone they're trying to take your attention away when people come over when you have worked to do. I mean there has to be a respect as well sure. That's why I said it depends on the kind of attention right so I think that it can be a bad thing when you get to the extreme. But that's not really the attention being the problem I guess that's more like the The fruits of the attention. Well yeah it's kind of the control like you want your child to see you as being in control of things when you don't want your child to take over control of what's going on day to day. Well I mean it can really be unhealthy and they can have a rude awakening when they get older. And everybody's not just falling over themselves to please them herbs moving so I think that's another issue is you don't want to raise them to feel entitled to everything so anyway I mean they did love her and it was a nice childhood although she was probably a little bit spoiled. Well how does she turn out? She turns out great. Okay so in. Nineteen seventy six. John took brandy in summer to the cons film festival ru and they spent time with David Kerosene is that the Kung Fu guy. Well that's the Carribean family. I don't know which one is which I think David was Kung-fu guy okay. And cary grant roll my love who carry granted yes. He was in one of my favorite movies. What was it sweep? Listen in Seattle now. An affair to remember. I know I was GONNA say that next so afterwards they went on an extended vacation to London Rome and Paris and they flew back to the United States on the First Air France Concorde flight from Paris to Washington. Dc wrong that's That's cool that's cool. That's Nice. Yes where she? Oh totally. And some are just felt like this poor country girl who was living like royalty. John became one of the biggest independent film distributors in the country and they were dining with. Paul Newman Joanne Woodward and Clint Eastwood Big names. Very big names especially in the seventies absolutely well when still around working yeah. He's still big but as her life was changing. Some are really didn't change. Who she was and I respect that. While John was traveling all over the world she stayed home and spent time with her daughter. She also invited other children over for play dates reading books and singing with them so she liked to share in her good fortune which. I think is so important. She even took time to volunteer at a home for emotionally disturbed young women and as a reward for good behavior. She would bring some of the girls to her house to swim for a day and loved it and they worked hard and did things so that they could earn a day at the pool so are like summer. She sounds like she's cutter head on straight and she's living the life. Well you know it's funny because they started reading the book about summer than I found online and I had no idea I was going to do the case but I did just feel such an affection for this woman that I enjoyed reading the book. It wasn't like work and I really enjoyed being able to Read about her in her life. Of course Jon was away a lot of the time. And he had his drinking habits in his drug habits so understandably their marriage suffered. There is a large Christmas office party in the late seventies when summer walked in on John and he and other parties were snorting large amounts of cocaine right on his desk so she walked out feeling pretty angry and worried at the same time. Sure I mean not only worried John but for her daughter you know. It's just very risky behavior. That he was getting into their relationship was getting more and more distant. Rose probably not a lot of good that comes out of a cocaine addiction or a drug addiction for that matter in marriage right. Something's going to happen well and it's interesting that when things stopped going so well for John and he has to really deal with things he does get better. So by nineteen eighty. His company started going downhill and the small films that John Distributed. Were really being snatched up by the major film companies without that business. He was quickly falling behind on his debts and he fell into some deep financial trouble because he hadn't saved enough. He was a big spender and happens. Cocaine is not free. I know but wouldn't you just put enough in a savings somewhere? In case the bottom falls out as a backup will most people would but a lot of people disfigure that. There's no end to this stuff. I guess you feel that way now is at this very very successful company. Money's just rolling in. I'd be of the opinion that this no change in that things are going to keep happening for me. Well and I'm kind of surprised that the way summer grew up that she didn't squirrel away more money because I personally waiting for the other shoe to drop and I liked to be prepared. Well Yeah but she did. She work well not really now. Not at that point or any money. She had came through her husband. Sheriff so what you're going to say to him honey. I need an extra thousand this week. 'cause I'm saving for when you go bankrupt? Well I just say. I WANNA start a savings account. I WANNA put a thousand dollars a week away and it shouldn't have fazed him when he was making so much

How a Simple 'Thank You' Can Make You a Better Leader

"Talk to you a little bit about why the thank you is kind of a lost art form. And why every job including management or leadership job is a sales sales job. Then I'm GonNa take you through a five step formula on how to use this magic. Thank you to get ahead. You need. Get folks to do what you need them to do. And then why why. It actually is super important to continue to do this no matter your role no matter your team. So let's get right to it. The first thing is with regard to the thank you. It's funny we're taught this lesson when we're children right. It's something that we're talking in kindergarten safely's and thank you but as we become adults this becomes comes off bit of a lost art form. We say it but it's sort of a throwaway. We say thanks so much or at the end of the email we say. Thank you so much. Appreciate your help but then it goes. It was away but we don't really think of the thank you or the art of gratitude as a leadership skill set so everybody in your organization comes in contact contact with customers and doesn't matter what they are. What their role is? It's the fact that it's an internal customer or an external customer well whether it's internal or external those people like to be appreciated. They like to be thanked too. So therefore every conversation or interaction is actually a sales conversation. Everybody's selling every day. You just don't call it that any interaction. You've got with a colleague or direct report that's a sales conversation. You're selling them on your personal brand on who you are and what you bring to. The table and leadership does the selling at the highest level. You're doing this often to entities that are critical organization's success. You're selling the idea. Yeah of WHO This company is. You're selling the idea of who your team is. And what they bring to the table too so when you think about your role you've got to be kind kind of selling all day. But the internal communication is were gratitude can actually give you the most bang for your buck because grateful people actually want to do more people who are happy in their jobs. People who feel empowered are the ones that actually want to continue to do that because they're getting positive reinforcement from it. So that's what I mean when I say every job as a sales job including leadership because this is one of those opportunities that you're faced with every single day to be able to empower your team even more so I promised you a five set formula so i WanNa talk about the plan I now planning is the most important part of leadership leadership right but so often leader struggle with this because you actually to sit down and think about it. So let's just use the thank you part for a moment if if we're talking about showing gratitude to our teams. How are you showing gratitude today? What's something that you can share with your team to show them that you appreciate what they've brought to the table so you can explain to them how much what they did on that project or that particular client folder? Whatever it was that they brought to you you really appreciate and you've really appreciate the fact that they put that extra effort into it but you gotTa have a plan to do this otherwise? This is the piece that falls by the wayside. I can't tell you how how many managers I've worked with year after year. Who really struggle with showing the appreciation and when we'd done assessments with teams? We've talked to the employees themselves. That's the thing it falls by the wayside they feel under appreciated and it's to teeny tiny simple words that we got to throw out there but without a plan not can happen so the second thing is once you got that plan you can look for. Those opportunities. Leaders have a multitude of opportunities to kind of sell the. Thank you every day but again without that plan you're not really looking for your spidey senses aren't up and you're not looking for opportunities to kind of say. Hey I really appreciate what you brought to the table but you do have to keep your eyes repealed. This means getting off of your phone while you're walking in the hallway. This means actually reading into the emails and the messages that people are sending you pause breathe and think about what that person did that has really helped the organization to move forward and then show them that gratitude. And then you've got to establish trust you've really gotTa show the folks around you that you hear them and you see them. And this is one of the most heartbreaking parts in business right is when people feel like they're not being seen or they're not being heard and it simply because we move at the speed of business. It doesn't slow down and in fact if anything. It's speeding up now with technology. So we've got to show them damn that they can trust us that we have their back that we do appreciate them and that we want them to be part of this organization going forward without the trust of their team leaders. You you can't be effective but they need to know that you hear them in order for you to be able to have that trust goes both ways and then finally got to ask for what you want asking is a big piece of this to leaders have verbal as what they want and they have to be able to empower their teams to do so and then in that ask is also. We're also showing them. How grateful you are that? They are able to do the task. You're asking their up to the task that you're grateful that the report of this team empower them with gratitude. It's such a simple thing but it is so often left behind with that gratitude. That's really the final step. And this is where most really senior leaders fall down because we think we're showing our gratitude with a paycheck. We think we're showing our gratitude because we put thank you in an email because we did an office party. It's not Nov guys. You've got to show them whether it's victory or defeat you've got to be constant in your gratitude whether the company did great whether the company did not do great great. Everybody should show the gratitude of getting us to where we were today and learning from that and then showing gratitude is reinforcing the that trust is showing them and regardless you appreciate the fact that they put forth the effort and recognizing those problem areas as well as the achievements. The problem areas are the ones that we're learning from so make sure our team knows how much you appreciate them even making that extra effort and then it also shows that the activities that you're reinforcing with these guys and you're showing them him. How much appreciate it? It actually empowers them to want to do it more. It's sort of like if you've ever seen a little kid and you giggle it. Something that they do they do at ten thousand times more will. The reason is because we're hard wired that way as human beings we want those applause we want those accolades and as a leader the accolades thank you so another thing that I mentioned in the very beginning which was the thank you goodbye kind of thing and I think thank you should never mean goodbye. It's not a C- later kind of greeting or or salutation. It's not the end. It should be the first step in continuing that relationship and deepening that relationship and nothing comes after thank you. Nobody fills fulfilled. Nobody wants to continue to do this. Sort of that throwaway piece. It's like throwing the you know love you bye before you hang up the phone. It's just not enough enough and it's not really heartfelt either the thank you should be that ongoing piece of letting them know that I see you. I appreciate you. I love what you're doing thing and I really want to show you. How grateful I am that? You're a part of this and it's really that shift of your own mindset. That happens to be able to to throw this out there guys. I can't tell you enough. How important this particular lesson is for any leader in any organization whether you're leading sales organization whether you're an engineer whether the back office whether your client facing or not this gratitude piece is part of the brand that you build because if you're building this piece of gratitude it will permeate through through the company it will permeate through your team and then it will eventually get to the customer and people who feel appreciated want to come back? They want to show show you their loyalty because they feel that they can trust you. And you're being loyal to

Enjoy the Holidays without Wrecking Your Diet

"We're in the thick of the holiday today season now and it's a time when many of us really struggled to keep our healthy habits going with all of the extra treats and disruption in our routines if it feels like every day is a cheap day and it may be tempting to just decide that you're throw in the towel and pick up the pieces on January first but before you do that. I have three time tested strategies that can help things from feeling quite so out of control. Holiday tip number. One is to cultivate your in her food SNOB. Now I'm not talking about being hypercritical or looking down your nose at anyone. That's not in the holiday spirit but with so many treats and indulgences everywhere we look we can afford to be and really we need to be extra choosy about which ones we're going to enjoy for example. There's a lot of cheap chocolate around this time of year and just because it's wrapped in green red foil instead of silver doesn't actually make it taste any better. I don't eat cheese chocolate at other times of the year. I'm not even tempted to I. hold out for the good stuff. And then I eat it in small quantities but for some unreason my normally high standards seemed to fall apart as soon as those tiny chocolate. Santa's the scene. Now I have learned to be on guard against against this effect and to remind myself that if anything my standards should be higher than usual at this time of year given the overabundance of options by the same token if someone has gone to the trouble to make homemade eggnog. I might enjoy some of that. I know it's crazy. High in sugar and calories but homemade eggnog is really a rare treat on the other hand. I would never waste the calories on Eggnog out of the carton even if it means I go the whole season without without any. That's no big loss. Now if you genuinely love tiny chocolate Santos or eggnog out of the carton then this is your chance to enjoy away them in moderation. Just remember to pass on all those traits that you don't actually enjoyed that much now. I can already hear some of you saying but Monica. The problem is that I love all the treats. There are none that I don't enjoy while in that case you need to decide which of them you love the most or if you really can't rank them then pick the ones that are the least ubiquitous to be your special treat. Let their rarity be part of the appeal for example you'll probably be going to more parties than usual office parties family. Get Togethers neighborhood gatherings there will probably be lots of bowls of potato tatum chips and vats of generic onion dip at most of these things along with multiple bricks of nondescript cheddar cheese and baskets of forgettable crackers special. Hardly even if you love potato chips and onion dip you do not need to be eating them every day for the next three weeks so focused instead on special or unusual usual treats that you don't have all year or that you're not going to be seeing it every party holiday number two is to plan your treats in order to to enjoy them more. What are the most enjoyable parts of any pleasant experience is looking forward to it the longer? We anticipate eight a pleasurable thing. Though more pleasure we get from it if you're indulging at every opportunity both the planned ones and the unplanned ones and you never had the pleasure of consciously choosing your treats and looking forward to them and as a result you actually get less enjoyment even though you're indulging in more planning ahead also allows us to pick and choose which special thing we would most enjoy and then that makes it a lot easier is your to pass on other things. That aren't a special. I might decide to skip the cheap wine at the holiday. Happy Hour at the office because I know there will be some very very nice wine served at the dinner that I'm going to later and I've already decided that that is going to be my treat for the day and I've been looking forward to

"office party" Discussed on House of Kim with Kim Zolciak

"To the significant others office party. Four days out of the month. And you go a little bit crazy. The world is not going to end. And while you might be busy, and you may not be able to hit that ninety minute yoga class with a forty five minutes spin class. If you get twenty minutes in in your living room right stream with a streaming platform or an app or a DVD or whatever the heck it might be again. It's perfect. It's it's enough. It's about right? And we get to this mindset of if it's not perfect like forget it off the wagon where it the same analogy of if you pop tire you get out of the car you fix a tire you keep rolling. But we tend to like get a flat slash all through the other. That's the worst thing you can do. So just a very balanced mindset. That's all you need. Let's go to focus more, maybe on your mindset in your positively and just being thankful for everything. And I. Say Gulf is the attitude will carry over in maybe keep some of the weight off, you think maybe the mindset. Yeah. You are what you think. I tell everybody. I mean, it doesn't mean a pound my producer came to me. And when we started our new season don't be tardy. And he says your motto sucks. It's a bunch up all shit. And I said, what do I mean? And he said that you can eat anything you want anything you want. You are what you think, you know. He's like so I was like I eat a pound of brownies and I wouldn't gain anyway because they don't do it. And I said, I don't eat a pound of brownies. He's gained ten king pounds and three. And so I said, no, dummy, I meant like in moderation. You can have anything you want in moderation. It's just not a pound of brownies like doctoral HAMAs sans. It really is honest to God. It's common sense. And what it would ask people to avoid. It would be the obvious. You know what I mean? Like, if you're going to have a treat or something sweet have real fats have real sugar not fake fat, fate color artif-. Everything. That's when you really get into trouble common chances key and taking a balanced approach. Don't go hog wild integrate, these things within reason balance them out within reason. Right, commonsense workouts, and that's all the takes. I totally totally agree with you one hundred percent, okay lovebirds. Let's talk about Zola Zola is the easiest way to plan your wedding and a registry, we all know that going to a wedding is a joyful experience. But planning wedding can be extremely overwhelming.
